- 1:03Free shipping?
- 1:05Yep.
- 1:06That's sweet.
- 1:07For our listeners,
- 1:08it's the least I could do.
- 1:09That's sweet.
- 1:10You know,
- 1:10normally you get those free things,
- 1:12and they're like,
- 1:13but you have to pay the
- 1:13$495 shipping and handling.
- 1:16I'm even paying for the stamp.
- 1:18I love that.
- 1:19That's awesome.
- 1:20Wow.
- 1:21I'm excited to connect with you today.
- 1:23It's been a little bit.
- 1:24Actually,
- 1:25we haven't talked since... We
- 1:27didn't do a podcast last week, did we?
- 1:30No,
- 1:31it's been a wild week that we'll
- 1:33probably get into in future weeks.
- 1:35Yeah, I know.
- 1:38My work has been utterly insane with...
- 1:43And just so people know my day job,
- 1:45I do testing for our
- 1:47systems at the state of Ohio.
- 1:49And when those systems go down,
- 1:52then you have to test
- 1:53immediately to make sure
- 1:54everything's back up and
- 1:55running correctly.
- 1:56And then when they go down again,
- 1:57then you have to test again
- 1:59and again and again.
- 2:01And that's pretty much what
- 2:03my last week and a half has been like.
- 2:06And so last week I decided
- 2:07to hop in a car and go to Knoxville.
- 2:09Yeah.
- 2:11And that's kind of like,
- 2:13so we missed our podcast last week.
- 2:16Your check-in day is Wednesday, Thursday.
- 2:18So typically you fill in
- 2:19your form for me on Wednesday.
- 2:20I review it, send you notes,
- 2:22reach out on Thursday.
- 2:23And yeah,
- 2:25literally I had the feeling
- 2:26that something was off
- 2:28because you didn't message me at all.
- 2:31And then I texted you and I
- 2:32didn't get a message back.
- 2:33And then the next thing I
- 2:34knew you're in a car in, in a,
- 2:37in a Knoxville.
- 2:39And this is what's so hard
- 2:41is like communication.
- 2:44is like the easiest way to
- 2:46just like make sure that
- 2:47everybody's on the same page.
- 2:49And I like just had no idea
- 2:50what was going on.
- 2:51And I was worried sick about
- 2:52you as your coach.
- 2:53So, you know,
- 2:55when I'm pulled in to work in
- 2:57the server area,
- 2:58I can't even take my phone
- 2:59in with me because in that server area,
- 3:02I can't have my cell phone.
- 3:04Got it.
- 3:05So like when, when I get called in there,
- 3:07I have no choice, but to be,
- 3:09and I have other stuff going on,
- 3:10like family stuff that I
- 3:12can't even take it in with me for.
- 3:16So that's what happens.
- 3:17I get in there and then I
- 3:20can't look at my phone.
- 3:21I can't do anything.
- 3:21I just have to work on what
- 3:22I'm working on and I can't
- 3:24leave till I can leave.
- 3:27So yeah, that's what,
- 3:28that's what happened last week.
- 3:30Yeah.
- 3:30It was just like, for me, you know,
- 3:32like I'm going through,
- 3:33and this is me being transparent.
- 3:35Like I'm,
- 3:36I'm being 100% honest right now
- 3:37on the air, which is hard for me.
- 3:39Um,
- 3:40I'm going through a really tough time
- 3:41myself.
- 3:42My mom's very sick.
- 3:44And last Thursday I had an
- 3:46appointment with you and I
- 3:48wasn't going to give up that commitment.
- 3:50And I was at the hospital
- 3:51with my mom on Thursday.
- 3:54And I'm like, I got to take this call,
- 3:57mom.
- 3:58I walked out the room
- 3:59And I'm like calling you and
- 4:01I'm being honest because if
- 4:03I'm not honest, it's not,
- 4:05I'm not going to make this about that,
- 4:06but a simple like message, like, Hey,
- 4:10I'm not gonna be able to
- 4:11take the call today.
- 4:12Cause I'm like trying to,
- 4:14I'm at the hospital right now.
- 4:16Who's not doing well.
- 4:18And I'm like feeling like, all right.
- 4:22Okay.
- 4:23And then like, I just,
- 4:24it was something that I had
- 4:25to be honest about that.
- 4:26I, as your coach,
- 4:27like that was something that I was like,
- 4:30dang, I couldn't even get a quick, Hey.
- 4:32Can't talk right now.
- 4:32Hey, I got to reschedule my appointment.
- 4:35I'm leaving, whatever,
- 4:36because I did keep that
- 4:38commitment to you.
- 4:39And as a coach who cares,
- 4:41that's something that I
- 4:42have to be honest about.
- 4:44So that was just something I
- 4:45wanted to mention.
- 4:46Well, I apologize.
- 4:47And 98% of the time I work from home.
- 4:50And so like,
- 4:51it's never a problem for me to
- 4:53be able to text or whatever
- 4:55during that time if something gets busy.
- 4:57this is just that one
- 4:58instance where I'm locked
- 5:00in a room and can't take my
- 5:01cell phone in.
- 5:02Yeah.
- 5:03And, and I agree.
- 5:04I totally understand,
- 5:06but I like had to tell you
- 5:07what I was feeling on the other end.
- 5:08I'm like, this sucks.
- 5:10So, so kind of going away from that,
- 5:15you know, is you had an amazing weekend.
- 5:18Okay.
- 5:19So let's,
- 5:19let's talk about how much fun you
- 5:22had this weekend at semifinals.
- 5:24So I did have a lot of fun.
- 5:27Of course, in Scott Way,
- 5:28I can't do anything easy.
- 5:31I get there.
- 5:34I'm walking into the venue
- 5:36on the first day and I step
- 5:38in a giant hole.
- 5:41My ankle,
- 5:42my knee buckle and then I try to
- 5:45catch myself and I torqued my back.
- 5:52Literally,
- 5:53I didn't even get into the venue.
- 5:54I was walking
- 5:56had just got to like fender
- 5:57village and I step in this
- 6:00hole and then and jamie
- 6:03said when she saw the way I
- 6:04tried to catch myself she
- 6:05knew like I was toast that
- 6:10sucks so it didn't really
- 6:12hurt that much that day it
- 6:15just it got worse as the
- 6:16weekend went on and then it
- 6:18was just like getting into
- 6:19squats positions to get it
- 6:21to stretch and getting into
- 6:22other positions to get it
- 6:23to stretch all weekend and
- 6:27I still had a really good time,
- 6:29but it was like,
- 6:30now I have this thing
- 6:31hanging over me through the
- 6:33whole weekend.
- 6:34Yeah.
- 6:35Um, now kind of shifting into nutrition,
- 6:40it's been a rough couple of weeks.
- 6:45I, the logging wise, it sure has.
- 6:48Yeah.
- 6:49Um, I don't,
- 6:50I have not had a lot of
- 6:51control over my time over
- 6:53the last couple of weeks.
- 6:54Um,
- 6:57But I,
- 6:57I have done really well making the
- 6:59best of what I had.
- 7:01Okay.
- 7:03And I, and I agree that that's,
- 7:05that's kind of what I
- 7:06wanted today to be about is, you know,
- 7:09when it comes to these
- 7:10journeys that people are on
- 7:12is it's not always going to
- 7:15be smooth sailing.
- 7:17You're going to hit road bumps.
- 7:18You're going to,
- 7:19you're going to have times
- 7:21like this where it's like
- 7:22just off track a little bit.
- 7:24It's okay.
- 7:25it's not failing.
- 7:26It's not winning.
- 7:27It's not anything.
- 7:28It just is what it is.
- 7:29It's that, you know,
- 7:30it's been a little bit of a
- 7:32rocky couple of weeks, like full trends.
- 7:34It has been, you know?
- 7:35So I think that it's okay to
- 7:38say like right now,
- 7:40like I'm so physically and
- 7:42mentally exhausted by other
- 7:45things going on here that I
- 7:47haven't been as focused as
- 7:49I should be where I know I need to be.
- 7:51But it doesn't mean,
- 7:52I'm completely derailing.
- 7:54It just means that I haven't
- 7:55been making that push to
- 7:58make the next step happen
- 7:59because my mental and
- 8:01physical batteries are drained.
- 8:03Does that kind of resonate?
- 8:07This is probably going to go down a road.
- 8:08I don't want to go down today, but I mean,
- 8:12we're here and I'm having
- 8:15some mental issues with
- 8:17everything going on around me.
- 8:19And then
- 8:21And this was the straw that
- 8:23broke kind of the camel's back.
- 8:26So we would go to the venue
- 8:28early in the morning and
- 8:29our hotel had breakfast.
- 8:31So I would grab a scoop of
- 8:33eggs and either bacon or
- 8:34sausage and then go to the venue.
- 8:37I had beef jerky and apples
- 8:40and stuff in my bag to kind
- 8:42of live on until I got to dinner.
- 8:46We'd go out to dinner and...
- 8:50the waiter or waitress would
- 8:52come to the table and they
- 8:54would automatically assume
- 8:56that the dinner I ordered
- 8:57was for Jamie and the
- 9:00dinner that Jamie ordered
- 9:01was for me because I'm
- 9:06eating the chicken and the
- 9:07fruit plate and the
- 9:10coleslaw and Jamie's
- 9:14getting the steak and the
- 9:15fries and all that kind of stuff, right?
- 9:18And it just hit me hard this weekend.
- 9:22I'm working my ass off so
- 9:24hard by making these changes,
- 9:28and I feel like sometimes
- 9:34it's for naught.
- 9:40Does that make sense?
- 9:42It just hit me in that
- 9:43moment this weekend.
- 9:45Here I am.
- 9:46I have to be so careful
- 9:47about every little freaking
- 9:50morsel that I put in my mouth.
- 9:53And the progress is so freaking slow.
- 10:01Go ahead and finish.
- 10:02Because I wasn't going to cut you off.
- 10:03I thought you were done.
- 10:04That's it.
- 10:06I'm really proud of you
- 10:07right now for sharing that.
- 10:10And you're right.
- 10:12It's not fair.
- 10:14And I think I've said this before.
- 10:16That people judge a person
- 10:20by what they see.
- 10:22Without knowing where that
- 10:23person's been and where they're going.
- 10:27No idea at all.
- 10:30The external shell doesn't matter.
- 10:34I just want to cry.
- 10:35I just, all I want to do is cry.
- 10:38Like, I feel like I just, I'll be honest.
- 10:45I feel like, is it even worth it anymore?
- 10:47Yes.
- 10:48Yes.
- 10:49Like I'm, I'm here.
- 10:50I am working my ass off every effing day.
- 10:53And I didn't think we were
- 11:00going to go here today, but we're here.
- 11:02And I think we needed to be
- 11:04here and whether it's on air or not,
- 11:08this conversation needed to
- 11:09happen because it is really hard.
- 11:14It is really fucking hard to make changes.
- 11:18And you're right, progress is really slow.
- 11:22But what's the alternative?
- 11:26What's the alternative to
- 11:27just not doing anything?
- 11:32Where do you go then?
- 11:34What's the alternative to,
- 11:36and we're going to talk
- 11:37about simplifying things,
- 11:38but what's the alternative
- 11:40to just throwing in the towel right now?
- 11:44I'm not going to throw in the towel.
- 11:46No, I know you're not.
- 11:47But what I'm telling you is
- 11:50when you're in these places, for one,
- 11:54your feelings are valid.
- 11:55You were judged this weekend.
- 11:58And that's a fucked up thing
- 11:59for anybody to do.
- 12:00Excuse my language.
- 12:03You were judged and that
- 12:05makes you feel
- 12:05uncomfortable because
- 12:07you're busting your ass and
- 12:10you're still looked at like,
- 12:12The guy that needs to lose weight.
- 12:16And even so much that it's
- 12:17that like it just
- 12:18illustrated how meticulous
- 12:22I have to be to make any progress.
- 12:26Well, what do you when you say meticulous,
- 12:28right?
- 12:29Let's talk about this.
- 12:31Because I had this
- 12:32conversation with a client
- 12:33of mine last week.
- 12:34She said,
- 12:35I just feel like I'm working so hard.
- 12:37I'm working out every single day.
- 12:40Instead of sitting in my lunch hour,
- 12:42I go to the gym.
- 12:45I'm meal prepping.
- 12:46I'm doing all this stuff.
- 12:48And it's just, I don't even know why.
- 12:51I'm like, well,
- 12:52what do you think people do
- 12:53that are fit and healthy
- 12:55and live a healthy life do?
- 12:58They do that.
- 13:00But I used to love working
- 13:02out and now it just hurts.
- 13:04Like everything just hurts.
- 13:06Like I step in that hole on
- 13:08Friday and then everything
- 13:10I try to do fitness wise hurts.
- 13:14Your body's in pain, inflammation,
- 13:16inflammation.
- 13:17All of that.
- 13:18And then you go to a
- 13:21restaurant and you have to
- 13:23replace the fries with
- 13:25broccoli and do all these
- 13:28extra steps that other
- 13:29people don't have to do.
- 13:30And it gets you nowhere.
- 13:33But when you say that other
- 13:34people don't have to do,
- 13:36who are you referring to?
- 13:39I'm just venting.
- 13:40I'm not asking it towards anybody.
- 13:43Guess what?
- 13:44A lot of people do that.
- 13:46It just might not have been
- 13:47the people sitting at your table.
- 13:49So even though you might
- 13:50have been the one at the
- 13:51table that was swapping
- 13:52French fries for broccoli,
- 13:54it doesn't mean that there
- 13:55were two other tables right
- 13:57around you that somebody at
- 13:58the table was also the only
- 13:59one swapping out French
- 14:01fries for broccoli.
- 14:05It can feel very lonely sometimes.
- 14:09When you're watching people
- 14:10around you just free with
- 14:12food and not thinking about
- 14:13it and you're putting in
- 14:14effort and you're like,
- 14:15I just want to be like that.
- 14:17And I'll be honest,
- 14:19a weekend like semifinals,
- 14:21I probably would have told you, hey,
- 14:23enjoy a couple of fun meals.
- 14:25Don't sweat it.
- 14:26You come back home,
- 14:28you pick up where you left off.
- 14:30The whole weekend had an
- 14:31element to this and it
- 14:33wasn't even all nutrition.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:35So I'm just, it just was a pile on.
- 14:37Yeah.
- 14:38And I went off on it on
- 14:39Saturday night show.
- 14:41I mean,
- 14:41I had security called on me at the
- 14:43venue for following the
- 14:46instructions I was given.
- 14:47I didn't even watch that yet.
- 14:51I had to catch up.
- 14:53I had them called on me and
- 14:55told where and what,
- 14:57And you, you've been a part of my team.
- 14:59So you will actually understand this.
- 15:01Yeah.
- 15:02I was told this person was
- 15:04trying to tell me where I
- 15:05could do an interview and
- 15:06where I could not.
- 15:09I was following the
- 15:09procedures given to me by
- 15:11the head of media for the
- 15:12syndicate crown and the
- 15:13head of media for CrossFit.
- 15:16I asked them to go talk to them.
- 15:18I then get talked to by the
- 15:19head of media from the
- 15:20syndicate crown asking me
- 15:22to do it in another venue.
- 15:25And I said, that's fine.
- 15:27I said,
- 15:27I just don't want to be picked on
- 15:28as the one team that has to
- 15:30do it this way and nobody else.
- 15:32Oh, no, no.
- 15:33Everybody has to follow these rules.
- 15:36The only people allowed in
- 15:37that area will be medical.
- 15:39The same people that were
- 15:40allowed to do stuff last
- 15:42year were allowed to
- 15:43continue to do it the
- 15:45incorrect way this year.
- 15:46Mm-hmm.
- 15:48And I'm just tired of always
- 15:50being singled out as the
- 15:51people who get talked to.
- 15:55And then you go to dinner
- 15:56and then this happens and
- 15:57it's just a pile on of more, right?
- 16:00Yeah.
- 16:01It's that, it's that feeling.
- 16:02And I think we've been here
- 16:03before where it's like,
- 16:06you're always being picked
- 16:08on in some way.
- 16:10Like, it's like, this is it.
- 16:12It's nobody with authority.
- 16:14It's yeah.
- 16:15It's just a little miss
- 16:16puffy pants on the podcast.
- 16:19But she had no authority to
- 16:22tell me what to do.
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:24But yet makes my whole
- 16:26afternoon miserable because
- 16:30of her perception.
- 16:31Right.
- 16:32Right.
- 16:34It's so hard, Scott, because like I said,
- 16:37a fat loss journey,
- 16:39a weight loss journey does
- 16:41require sacrifice.
- 16:43Anybody who says that they
- 16:45don't have to work hard for
- 16:47weight loss is lying.
- 16:48There's decisions that are
- 16:49being made on a daily basis,
- 16:52especially because most people,
- 16:54when they gain weight,
- 16:55there's other influences.
- 16:56It's not just you in a bubble, right?
- 16:59There's so many things going on.
- 17:03And I think that you were
- 17:04kind of like at your breaking point,
- 17:06like work has been crazy busy.
- 17:08Your wife has been going
- 17:10through a rough time.
- 17:12Hopefully she's on the mend.
- 17:13Hopefully things will be
- 17:14getting better with that.
- 17:15You know, like the decision to travel,
- 17:18even things like podcast
- 17:20sponsorship and all of these things,
- 17:22these moving pieces.
- 17:24And
- 17:25And this is good for
- 17:26everybody to hear because guess what?
- 17:28If it's not the person at the dinner table,
- 17:31it's the person at the pool
- 17:32party that says something to somebody,
- 17:34you know, it's, it's all of those things,
- 17:37or they're the one at the pool party.
- 17:38That's not eating the snacks
- 17:39or at the barbecue.
- 17:40That's not eating the snacks.
- 17:42Everybody experiences this
- 17:43stuff in different ways.
- 17:45It's it shows up in
- 17:46different ways and it
- 17:47affects them in different ways.
- 17:49And we all have a choice to be like,
- 17:51all right,
- 17:52I know that this sucks right now.
- 17:54Like I know I've kind of
- 17:55just been out of my element, but like,
- 17:58I'm gonna get back to my program,
- 18:03back to my structure.
- 18:05And when you're feeling that fatigue,
- 18:07that's what I'm here for.
- 18:08And I know that like,
- 18:09I probably was the last
- 18:10person on your mind to
- 18:11reach out to that night, but man,
- 18:14a text message of like,
- 18:17just had a really tough night.
- 18:18Like I was at the dinner
- 18:20table and I'm like making good choices.
- 18:23And I just felt like, I don't know.
- 18:27I just felt off.
- 18:28Like it could have been all it was.
- 18:30And then I probably would
- 18:31ask you what happened, you know, but it's,
- 18:32it's,
- 18:33I just didn't even know how to
- 18:34process it myself.
- 18:35I don't,
- 18:37I don't know.
- 18:38Well, that's why it's,
- 18:39it's crazy how I didn't
- 18:41know where today's episode
- 18:42was going to go.
- 18:43I mostly just wanted to kind
- 18:44of get you back into the swing of things,
- 18:45but this is all making sense.
- 18:48It's, it all, it's all making sense.
- 18:50Like just the whole lead up to this call,
- 18:52this talk today, you know?
- 18:54So, but you know,
- 18:56I think it's also important
- 18:58right now to look at how
- 19:00far you've come and, and know that like,
- 19:05all that's behind you.
- 19:07You've done all that hard
- 19:08work leading up to this.
- 19:10And what you're doing isn't really,
- 19:12I think also sometimes when
- 19:15you're in a place of overwhelm,
- 19:17the simplest things can
- 19:19feel so overwhelming.
- 19:21So like, for instance, on my end,
- 19:23if I was like,
- 19:24I just feel like I have to
- 19:25be so meticulous.
- 19:26Like I'm the one at the
- 19:27table that's swapping out
- 19:28French fries for broccoli.
- 19:30You're like, on your end, it's like, well,
- 19:33was that really
- 19:35That hard or did it just
- 19:37feel hard because you're
- 19:38feeling like you're being a
- 19:39problem to the waitress or
- 19:41the waiter and that you're
- 19:43the one and that you're
- 19:44kind of like people are
- 19:45looking at you for the judging thing,
- 19:47the judgment thing.
- 19:48Right.
- 19:48It's it's that stuff.
- 19:50It's it's knowing that it's
- 19:52not even about the meticulousness.
- 19:54It's about we think.
- 19:56things are harder than they
- 19:57really are because of how
- 20:00they're affecting us mentally.
- 20:02And, you know,
- 20:04it's really hard to just keep going,
- 20:06but that's where resiliency
- 20:09and that's where people
- 20:12become successful.
- 20:13It's actually leading into
- 20:15that discomfort and being able to say,
- 20:18all right, like I can feel a certain way.
- 20:21And guess what?
- 20:22On Monday morning,
- 20:24I'm going to wake up happy
- 20:25with my decisions.
- 20:27you know?
- 20:29So I don't know.
- 20:32It was a breaking point.
- 20:33Yeah.
- 20:35It's okay.
- 20:37I'm telling you, it's okay.
- 20:39I'm telling you as your
- 20:40coach that I'm proud of you.
- 20:42I'm proud of you for being able to be like,
- 20:44all right.
- 20:44Like I freaking like,
- 20:48I've been so freaking busy
- 20:49with everything.
- 20:50And like, just,
- 20:52it's been not my priority right now.
- 20:55And I,
- 20:56I'm like recommitting to
- 20:57like back to routine.
- 20:59You don't have any travel on
- 21:00the schedule until the games.
- 21:01Are you going to the games?
- 21:03Uh,
- 21:03the only travel I have is just a day
- 21:05trip with my mom to the U S
- 21:07Olympic swimming trials.
- 21:08Oh, fun.
- 21:09When is that?
- 21:10Uh, June 15th.
- 21:12Okay.
- 21:13All right.
- 21:13So, but other than that,
- 21:14nothing until the games,
- 21:15are you going to the games?
- 21:18I have not made that call yet.
- 21:19Okay.
- 21:20Is it going to be one of
- 21:20those last minute get in
- 21:21the car and go to Knoxville
- 21:22type of things?
- 21:23I cannot drive to Fort Worth.
- 21:26Okay.
- 21:26So I have to get a plane
- 21:28ticket if I'm going to go.
- 21:29Well, regardless,
- 21:30we got a couple of months.
- 21:31We got about eight weeks or so.
- 21:33One day trip, 4th of July, easy peasy.
- 21:37Now I say easy peasy,
- 21:39but just because you don't
- 21:40have any trips doesn't mean
- 21:41that you're still not going
- 21:42to have daily stressors.
- 21:44And the next thing that to
- 21:45talk about today is I forget the quote.
- 21:50Have you read the book Atomic Habits?
- 21:54Oh my gosh, Scott.
- 21:55If people on this podcast,
- 21:58if you guys have not read Atomic Habits,
- 22:00you need to read Atomic Habits.
- 22:01And if you don't read, audio book it.
- 22:04You won't want to turn it off.
- 22:05If you're anybody that is into self-help,
- 22:08self-development, personal growth,
- 22:10the book will change your life.
- 22:12But he talks about the fact
- 22:13that we do not rise to the
- 22:15level of our goals.
- 22:17we fall to the structure of
- 22:18our systems or something
- 22:19along that way is that the
- 22:21people that are most successful,
- 22:25they don't just become
- 22:25successful by focusing on the goal.
- 22:29That's funny.
- 22:33They focus on putting
- 22:35systems in place and
- 22:37following routine with that.
- 22:38Like for instance,
- 22:41I work out every day at noon,
- 22:42whatever that is for you.
- 22:44I eat at these times of the day,
- 22:46every day.
- 22:47whatever it is.
- 22:48And I think that right now it's been,
- 22:51your routine's been a
- 22:52little thrown off and that
- 22:54you're not in your routine
- 22:56and your group because of
- 22:57your work schedule and everything.
- 22:59So what we really need is like to pivot.
- 23:02How can we make things super
- 23:03easy for you this week to
- 23:05nutritionally just recommit
- 23:07to getting back on routine
- 23:08with your tracking and your
- 23:10nutrition and all that stuff?
- 23:12Well,
- 23:13I came home to no groceries in the house.
- 23:15So the first thing I have to
- 23:16do is go get groceries.
- 23:20Um,
- 23:21and then I need to start logging again.
- 23:23I have what I ate today.
- 23:25I ate like normal stuff that
- 23:27I eat all the time.
- 23:28So.
- 23:28Okay.
- 23:30So you had some food at home.
- 23:33Well, breakfast,
- 23:34I had eggs and egg whites
- 23:36because my wife doesn't eat
- 23:37the egg whites.
- 23:37So that was, there's plenty of that.
- 23:40Um,
- 23:41and then I, I had, uh,
- 23:43there was some chicken breasts left.
- 23:45So I had that with a salad for lunch.
- 23:48Okay.
- 23:48You have dinner tonight or not?
- 23:51I do not have,
- 23:52I have no uncooked protein in my house.
- 23:55Okay.
- 23:57Um,
- 23:57I have like one hamburger that was
- 24:00leftover from before I left
- 24:02and the chicken I used up today.
- 24:04Okay.
- 24:04So are you planning on going to the store,
- 24:06getting takeout?
- 24:07What's the plan for tonight?
- 24:08Um,
- 24:10So I don't have a car until
- 24:11my wife gets home.
- 24:13I'm hoping to go to the
- 24:14store or do an Instacart to
- 24:17get some groceries here
- 24:19within an hour of getting off this call.
- 24:22Okay.
- 24:23So again, worst case scenario,
- 24:26you get takeout tonight to
- 24:27make it easy for yourself.
- 24:29Can you find a place locally
- 24:30to get some healthy takeout?
- 24:32Sure can.
- 24:33In fact, let me be honest,
- 24:36you can order from a Chinese restaurant
- 24:38and get steamed chicken and
- 24:39broccoli and rice and
- 24:41likely have leftovers for tomorrow.
- 24:44True.
- 24:45And you could totally use
- 24:46whatever sauces you have at
- 24:47home to jazz it up.
- 24:50And then you can still get
- 24:52your Instacart if you want,
- 24:54or you can order that,
- 24:56stop at the grocery store.
- 24:58Now you don't have to cook
- 25:00and you have your groceries.
- 25:03So you can totally make
- 25:05something like that work.
- 25:06go to the grocery store,
- 25:08pick up your groceries,
- 25:08grab a rotisserie chicken.
- 25:10You know, I mean,
- 25:10I know you had chicken for lunch,
- 25:11but you can do that every day now.
- 25:14So you could also make a flatbread pizza.
- 25:17That's a fun meal, you know, lavash bread,
- 25:20some marinara sauce, turkey pepperoni.
- 25:22It's easy.
- 25:24Like keep it easy for yourself tonight.
- 25:26And, you know, or, you know,
- 25:28you can grill up some
- 25:29burgers and have a burger
- 25:30tonight and have a burger tomorrow,
- 25:31you know, like,
- 25:32Whatever is easier.
- 25:33I don't know what your
- 25:33schedule looks like the rest of the day.
- 25:35Now that I'm doing all the cooking,
- 25:36I cook a bunch of burgers
- 25:38and a bunch of chicken at
- 25:38the beginning of the week.
- 25:40And then I can chop up the
- 25:42burger if I need to,
- 25:43chop up the chicken if I need to,
- 25:45or just eat them as is.
- 25:47And then I supplement with
- 25:48other cooking throughout the week.
- 25:49But I don't want to cook every night.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:52So I think that simplicity
- 25:54tonight might be cancel cooking tonight,
- 25:57get something pre-made,
- 25:58even if you're getting
- 25:59pre-made from the grocery store.
- 26:01Um, and then, then you can cook tomorrow,
- 26:04you know, buy the groceries today.
- 26:06So all you have to do
- 26:06tomorrow is cook them.
- 26:07And now tomorrow is already Wednesday.
- 26:09So you're really only cooking.
- 26:10Well, even if you cook extra,
- 26:12you have stuff for the weekend.
- 26:13Correct.
- 26:13So it's not like the weekend
- 26:15has to be any different than the weekdays,
- 26:16you know?
- 26:16So, um, but yeah,
- 26:19I think the main thing today is to like,
- 26:22first of all,
- 26:23I'm glad that we went down
- 26:24this rabbit hole.
- 26:25I think.
- 26:25Well, it's obvious as treat yourself,
- 26:27get some steak.
- 26:27Didn't he hear that?
- 26:28That's what started this
- 26:29whole emotional rollercoaster.
- 26:31Well, you can totally have steak.
- 26:33Try leaner cuts.
- 26:34Uh, stick to top sirloin.
- 26:37Top round is a horrible cut of steak.
- 26:39Don't ever get, unless you're,
- 26:40unless you're slow cooking it.
- 26:42Top sirloin is probably
- 26:43going to be the leanest and
- 26:45still give you some good flavor.
- 26:47Um, or like a flank steak is,
- 26:48is pretty lean too.
- 26:50But, uh,
- 26:50I actually did have a steak in Knoxville.
- 26:53Yeah.
- 26:53Nick, just so you know,
- 26:55we did go to Outback one night and I,
- 26:57and I did get a filet.
- 26:58That's good.
- 27:00Yeah.
- 27:01So, I mean, I think that, you know,
- 27:03get yourself some stuff, um, uh,
- 27:06gym wise.
- 27:07So how's the body feeling?
- 27:09So it's,
- 27:10it's getting a little bit better
- 27:11every day.
- 27:12It's just the back.
- 27:13The one thing I will say is
- 27:15for years I would go to
- 27:16these events and my feet
- 27:17would be killing me.
- 27:19Yeah.
- 27:19My feet were fine all week.
- 27:21Yeah.
- 27:23And I did a, um,
- 27:27I did a lap like every heat
- 27:29where the press pits were,
- 27:30there was like little boxes
- 27:32you could be in.
- 27:33So I'd go sideline, upper sideline,
- 27:35finish line, then go back in an interview,
- 27:38take them back around,
- 27:40get to do the interview, then pop out.
- 27:42But, and I did that lap for every heat.
- 27:45Mm-hmm.
- 27:46And I was killing it.
- 27:47That's funny.
- 27:48So I guess my question is,
- 27:51are you able to get back in the gym?
- 27:53So I'm taking Julie to work
- 27:56the rest of the week so I can go at noon.
- 27:59I love it.
- 28:01And then we're having a
- 28:01summer kickoff party Friday night.
- 28:04Awesome.
- 28:05That's awesome.
- 28:06I think that mentally,
- 28:09that's what you need right now.
- 28:10I think that mentally,
- 28:11you need to kind of be around...
- 28:13some other people that, you know,
- 28:15like Scott, I know this journey is hard,
- 28:18you know, and like, you know,
- 28:21you're very,
- 28:22brave for putting yourself
- 28:24out there the way that you do.
- 28:26And the whole reason we
- 28:27started this show was
- 28:29because when you had that goal of like,
- 28:32I want to lose a hundred
- 28:32pounds by the next CrossFit Games,
- 28:35I was like,
- 28:36I want you to have the
- 28:37accountability you need.
- 28:39And I knew that this show
- 28:40would be one more thing to
- 28:42hold you accountable to
- 28:43those promises to yourself.
- 28:45And so I knew that was going
- 28:46to come with some transparency.
- 28:48But I also knew that other
- 28:49people were also going to
- 28:51be there to support you.
- 28:52And I know everybody that
- 28:52watches the show that I
- 28:54talk to wants nothing but
- 28:55the best for you.
- 28:56And they want you to be successful.
- 28:58And I get a lot of comments
- 29:01on how your journey has touched people.
- 29:03And so I know that it can
- 29:05feel like you're working
- 29:06hard and getting nowhere.
- 29:07But I also want to remind
- 29:09you that you're inspiring a
- 29:10lot of other people out
- 29:11there to work hard and be
- 29:14patient in the process.
- 29:16And all of that stuff.
- 29:17And that's not any pressure on you.
- 29:19That's just letting you know
- 29:21that people do value your hard work.
- 29:25Well,
- 29:25I can say my fitness level was better
- 29:29this year at semis than last.
- 29:31And that's even with AFib in the middle.
- 29:34Because I did those laps and
- 29:36then the media room was two stories up.
- 29:40So I would do those stairs up and down,
- 29:42up and down all day long.
- 29:43And it never, ever affected me.
- 29:45That's awesome.
- 29:47So I think that this week for you,
- 29:50it's simplifying dinner tonight,
- 29:52getting a plan in place for
- 29:53the rest of the week.
- 29:54And I'm going to be texting
- 29:56you every day this week.
- 29:58Like let's get on the food
- 30:00tracking journal.
- 30:01It doesn't,
- 30:02even if you have to like
- 30:04eyeball things sometimes,
- 30:05cause you're busy.
- 30:05I don't care.
- 30:07It's not about perfection, right?
- 30:09It's, it's about just being consistent,
- 30:12you know?
- 30:12So we'll see where things are at.
- 30:14Um,
- 30:16And not stress about things.
- 30:18No stress.
- 30:19No worries.
- 30:20Be happy.
- 30:20As Bob Marley says, right?
- 30:21Yeah.
- 30:23Mark Moss is talking about
- 30:24the Uplift Challenge.
- 30:26If you guys don't know about that,
- 30:27Mark has a charity called Uplift.
- 30:30It's about suicide prevention.
- 30:32And they put out a monthly
- 30:33workout that the community
- 30:35can do together.
- 30:35So make sure you check that out.
- 30:38Challenge.
- 30:39I will also promote that on my podcast,
- 30:42Uplift Challenge.
- 30:44Yeah, in the past few months he's had,
- 30:47like Rudy Berger did the workout,
- 30:48Scott Tetlow did the workout,
- 30:50like created the workout.
- 30:52Is there a website for it?
- 30:53They're on IG as Uplift, all caps.
- 30:59I'm looking for them right now.
- 31:01If he has a website,
- 31:02I'm sure he'll put it in the comments.
- 31:03Yeah, that's what I was hoping for.
- 31:05I would totally also promote
- 31:07that on my challenge right now.
- 31:10It's actually brought to you
- 31:11by Wadzomi this month.
- 31:13Uplift WOD.
- 31:14I found it.
- 31:16Great.
- 31:16I'm following you guys now.
- 31:17Okay.
- 31:18I'll take a look at that.
- 31:20Awesome.
- 31:21Something to do.
- 31:23Brought to you by WOD Zombie this month.
- 31:24That's awesome.
- 31:26All right.
- 31:27Two of my favorite people
- 31:28working together.
- 31:29Yeah.
- 31:30WOD Zombie's real name is Nick, right?
- 31:32Yep.
- 31:33Okay.
- 31:33I wanted to make sure I said it right.
- 31:34And Mark Moss is the one that runs Uplift.
- 31:37Okay.
- 31:38Gotcha.
- 31:38Yeah.
- 31:39I just started following them.
- 31:41All right.
- 31:41So...
- 31:43This week, back to tracking.
- 31:45You got this.
- 31:47How's your work schedule?
- 31:48Crazy?
- 31:51Today was a lot of catch up.
- 31:53I think I'm actually going
- 31:54to have a couple days.
- 31:57I don't want to say it.
- 31:58You don't want to jinx yourself.
- 31:59I don't want to say it.
- 32:00Okay.
- 32:01But I do have a project I
- 32:02have to run in like a week.
- 32:04Are you in the office or at home?
- 32:06I'm at home right now.
- 32:07Okay.
- 32:08This week though, pretty much?
- 32:10And the only time I get
- 32:11called in is emergency.
- 32:12So like, I won't know unless it happens.
- 32:14Okay.
- 32:15So like last week when you
- 32:16had to like take the,
- 32:17couldn't have the phone or
- 32:18that's probably not going
- 32:19to happen again this week.
- 32:20Hopefully, hopefully,
- 32:21hopefully as long as all
- 32:22the servers stay up and running.
- 32:24Okay.
- 32:25All right.
- 32:25So then this week,
- 32:26let's just try and hammer it.
- 32:30Remind yourself of where you're going.
- 32:31You know, like don't let,
- 32:33you're going to have
- 32:34thoughts and emotions.
- 32:35I know you got a lot of
- 32:36stuff on your plate right
- 32:37now and it's hard to stay focused.
- 32:38I totally get it.
- 32:39Like I told you in the beginning,
- 32:41like it was hard.
- 32:41I was,
- 32:42I was taking work calls at the hospital.
- 32:43I, I totally get it.
- 32:45Like right now that's a
- 32:46whole nother thing that I'm taking on.
- 32:49And all I've been doing
- 32:50right now is like food and
- 32:52training is on autopilot.
- 32:54on autopilot.
- 32:55I'm not worried about making
- 32:56progress in the gym right now.
- 32:57I'm worried about not regressing.
- 32:59I've made too much progress
- 33:00in the last six months that
- 33:02I don't want to see myself go back down,
- 33:05back down.
- 33:06So I'm like,
- 33:07I'm just holding on tight and
- 33:09maintaining right now.
- 33:10So in fact,
- 33:11I've been doing a lot of the
- 33:12same workouts.
- 33:13I know that sounds probably
- 33:14counterintuitive to a lot of CrossFitters,
- 33:16but just another tip for you, Scott, like
- 33:20My Mondays, I'm like, all right,
- 33:23I'm going to do this
- 33:23workout that I did last Monday.
- 33:24Again, this Monday,
- 33:25because I don't have to
- 33:26think about it and I'm just
- 33:27going to do it faster or in
- 33:29a different rough scheme.
- 33:30Like that's kind of what
- 33:31I've been doing because
- 33:32it's been taking the
- 33:33thinking out of it for me.
- 33:34So just a little tip for you too.
- 33:37Yeah.
- 33:39Well, I will let you know how it goes.
- 33:41Um, again, taking Julie to work the next,
- 33:44the rest of the week so I
- 33:45can go to the gym and I
- 33:48can't wait Friday night party.
- 33:50That's awesome.
- 33:51I have to catch up on the podcast.
- 33:54I haven't gotten to listen to any of them.
- 33:55I actually haven't even
- 33:56finished watching the semifinals.
- 33:57I've watched bits and pieces
- 33:59of it while I've been doing
- 34:01either Zone 2 training or whatever.
- 34:02I'll put it on.
- 34:05Yes, Wad Zombie Nick.
- 34:07This is my gum of choice.
- 34:09Trident Spearmint flavor.
- 34:11It's been my choice for I
- 34:14don't know how long.
- 34:17I had not been chewing gum
- 34:19I used to all the time and then I didn't.
- 34:22And then I had it this weekend and it does,
- 34:25it is a game changer.
- 34:26It really is.
- 34:27I am a gum junkie.
- 34:28I will tell you this.
- 34:30I cannot work out without gum.
- 34:32I,
- 34:33there's been times where I've gotten to
- 34:34the gym and I'm like, Oh, I forgot gum.
- 34:38And I'm like,
- 34:39I'll like literally go to a
- 34:40gas station before I go to
- 34:41the gym if I forgot it.
- 34:43So always have gum.
- 34:45Yeah.
- 34:45I love, I like the ice breakers.
- 34:47Yeah.
- 34:48I like the Trident Spearmint.
- 34:49This flavor tends to last the longest.
- 34:52That's why I like it.
- 34:53Denise Moore,
- 34:56Trident Cinnamon is my go-to.
- 34:58See,
- 34:58the cinnamon and the other flavors
- 35:00don't really do it for me.
- 35:01I've had the 5 Gum, too.
- 35:02That's also a good one.
- 35:03I like that one, too.
- 35:045 Gum was my good luck gum
- 35:09when I pitched softball.
- 35:12The blue 5 Gum,
- 35:13because our uniforms were blue.
- 35:17And, uh,
- 35:18and we won three city
- 35:19championships with me chewing that gum.
- 35:21Do y'all remember the, uh,
- 35:23this is totally off topic.
- 35:25Remember the zebra gum?
- 35:28That has 15 seconds of flavor.
- 35:29Yes.
- 35:30And you would just like
- 35:31chain shoe it because like
- 35:32the flavor would rot so fast.
- 35:34That was like my favorite or like, uh,
- 35:37Huh?
- 35:38Zebra fruit stripes.
- 35:39Yeah.
- 35:39Those are them.
- 35:40And then there was another one, the, uh,
- 35:42the bubble tape that was like the big,
- 35:44the role.
- 35:44And it'd be like, you pull it out.
- 35:46I remember that gum too.
- 35:47That's a little after my time.
- 35:49Yeah.
- 35:49That's that 10 years
- 35:50difference between our age.
- 35:51Yeah.
- 35:52The bubble tape gum.
- 35:53And then there was the, well,
- 35:54there was always the double
- 35:55bubble that was like rock hard.
- 35:57Like you would have to like
- 35:58really bite it to like,
- 35:59to like get it to soften up.
- 36:01And then it would finally like,
- 36:03and it also lost its flavor
- 36:04in like two seconds.
- 36:05But yeah.
- 36:06Yeah.
- 36:07I, um,
- 36:09the big revelation for so
- 36:10like when I was a kid it
- 36:12was either like the stick
- 36:14gum like wrigley's or any
- 36:16of those and then in your
- 36:17trading cards you got that
- 36:19hard oh yeah piece of gum
- 36:21yeah um and then when they
- 36:24came out with big league
- 36:25two like our lives changed
- 36:27I remember that gum too yeah
- 36:30Yeah, gum, man.
- 36:32Definitely gum is a game changer.
- 36:33It's funny because it's a great way.
- 36:37If you're a snacker and you
- 36:39just randomly snack throughout the day,
- 36:41I think it's a great way
- 36:43while you're dieting nutritionally.
- 36:45I'm not telling people if
- 36:47you're hungry to just chew gum,
- 36:48but if you're used to snacking,
- 36:49it can kind of stop you
- 36:51from just grabbing things.
- 36:52It kind of keeps your mouth busy.
- 36:56Anyways, gum topic.
- 37:00trying to think that was
- 37:03that was really the gum big
- 37:04the the zebra gum and then
- 37:06I mean obviously yeah there
- 37:07was juicy fruit and uh for
- 37:10a little while there I was
- 37:11into extra used to make a
- 37:13uh like a dessert gum line
- 37:16and this was like recent
- 37:17years like in the last 10 years or so
- 37:19And they had like a,
- 37:20I think it was like a mint
- 37:21cookie or a mint ice cream one.
- 37:24Mint chocolate chip ice cream one.
- 37:25Don't even ask me,
- 37:25but I got into it for a little while.
- 37:27I think I remember that.
- 37:29And it was really good.
- 37:30Yeah.
- 37:30It tasted like.
- 37:32Yeah, it did.
- 37:32It tasted like chocolatey ice cream.
- 37:35It was weird.
- 37:35But yeah.
- 37:36Now I got you on the Ninja Creamy,
- 37:39which is.
- 37:39Yeah, which I haven't made any in a while.
- 37:40I need to make some.
- 37:42Yeah.
- 37:43Yeah.
- 37:44I got to get on.
- 37:45I think I got a bad batch of
- 37:46black cherries.
- 37:47That's why my black cherry didn't work.
- 37:49Yeah.
- 37:49Did you get frozen ones?
- 37:50I did, but it tastes alcoholic.
- 37:53Like they ferment it or something.
- 37:55That is weird.
- 37:57That is strange.
- 37:57That's not good.
- 37:59Try one of the cherries
- 38:01outside of the... I did.
- 38:03That's why I think they're bad.
- 38:04Oh, okay.
- 38:06That'd be a good way to try it out first.
- 38:08I was like, it's like doing a shot.
- 38:10I actually saw a recipe for
- 38:11a strawberry ice cream with
- 38:13like fresh strawberries.
- 38:14And I know you like fruity.
- 38:15I was going to send it to you.
- 38:16I haven't, I have, I saved it.
- 38:18I haven't sent it to you yet.
- 38:19The peach truck was here
- 38:20right before I left for Knoxville.
- 38:22I was like, man, peach,
- 38:24fresh peaches and ice cream
- 38:25would be so good.
- 38:26That sounds good.
- 38:27Yeah.
- 38:28But I'll have to see if they're,
- 38:31cause they come like every
- 38:32couple of weeks here.
- 38:33Yeah.
- 38:34Straight from Georgia.
- 38:35That's awesome.
- 38:36That's awesome.
- 38:37Um,
- 38:39They're not cheap, but hey,
- 38:40if they're fresh and juicy,
- 38:42they'd be really good in ice cream.
- 38:44Well, cherries aren't cheap here.
- 38:45Are cherries cheap there?
- 38:47Well, frozen are fine.
- 38:49Yeah.
- 38:49They're not even selling
- 38:51cherries here right now.
- 38:52They sell cherries here,
- 38:53but they're like $6.50 a pound.
- 38:55It's like crazy.
- 38:57Yeah, we can't even get them right now.
- 38:59Yeah, so they do have them here,
- 39:00but they're expensive.
- 39:01My mom loves them,
- 39:02so I had bought them last week.
- 39:05But yeah, they're expensive right now.
- 39:07Anyways.
- 39:08Well,
- 39:09I think that next week we're
- 39:10hopefully going to have a
- 39:11good a good week.
- 39:12I think that this week was
- 39:13this week actually was a
- 39:15really good week for you, Scott.
- 39:18I think that people often
- 39:19think that the progress is
- 39:21made with like the success,
- 39:23but the progress is really
- 39:25made with like the
- 39:26transparency of today's episode, I think,
- 39:29is where things are changed.
- 39:30I'm going to leave you with
- 39:31this one funny story.
- 39:33All right.
- 39:34So Sunday, middle of the night.
- 39:37So into Monday,
- 39:38Jamie's plane took off at
- 39:40like four 30 in the morning.
- 39:43So I dropped her off at the
- 39:43airport around four o'clock.
- 39:47Now Knoxville's airport only
- 39:48has two gates.
- 39:49Okay.
- 39:49That's pretty quick.
- 39:50Doesn't take you very long to get through.
- 39:52So I dropped her off and I'm like,
- 39:53you know what?
- 39:54I'm just going to head for home.
- 39:57So I get in, there's nothing open,
- 40:00nothing open at four
- 40:01o'clock in the morning.
- 40:03So finally,
- 40:05like a McDonald's is open on
- 40:06the interstate and I pull
- 40:07off to get a coffee and an egg McMuffin.
- 40:11And,
- 40:12and I take one bite of the egg
- 40:13McMuffin as I get back out
- 40:15of the interstate,
- 40:16I'm already gone and it's all eggshells.
- 40:21And I'm like spitting in my car,
- 40:23like trying to get them out.
- 40:26Well,
- 40:28And I was like,
- 40:29this is the capper of my
- 40:31nutrition weekend.
- 40:32I can't even get an effing
- 40:34McMuffin sandwich that is
- 40:37not full of eggshells.
- 40:39Well, I mean,
- 40:39I guess the good thing is
- 40:41that they're cracking eggs
- 40:42to make the egg patties and
- 40:45it's not like some, you know,
- 40:47like egg product.
- 40:49That's not real eggs.
- 40:50So I guess, you know, that, you know,
- 40:52what's funny about that, dude, like
- 40:54you know the whole carnivore
- 40:55diet thing there's a guy
- 40:56that I follow on instagram
- 40:58and he's really into the
- 40:59carnivore diet and he was
- 41:00like I don't even know what
- 41:01it was he just like it just
- 41:03he's really bizarre I don't
- 41:04even know if I follow him
- 41:05or I just happened to find
- 41:06him and he's like
- 41:07showcasing his meals and
- 41:09he's like I even left the
- 41:10eggshells in for extra
- 41:12crunch I'm like you did
- 41:15what for extra my teeth
- 41:17make me want to vomit why
- 41:19would you people are just
- 41:22I mean, I know they're edible, but whoa,
- 41:24like let's, oh,
- 41:26I'm going to use eggshells
- 41:27as croutons now on my salad.
- 41:29Like random shit, people.
- 41:31I just don't even, I don't even know.
- 41:33At that point,
- 41:35like nutrition is no longer enjoyable.
- 41:37Yeah, agreed.
- 41:39Like let's just start eating
- 41:39the banana peel.
- 41:40I would rather eat a banana
- 41:43peel than an eggshell.
- 41:44I would agree.
- 41:45Actually, I don't know if I agree.
- 41:48I don't know if I could eat
- 41:49either of those things, but yeah.
- 41:51So anyways, I agree with Denise.
- 41:54I thought that they were
- 41:55like already paddied up and
- 41:57and they could have been.
- 41:58But you just got a bad batch, I guess.
- 42:01When I worked at McDonald's,
- 42:03we cracked eggs on the McMuffin.
- 42:05Yeah.
- 42:05See, I see.
- 42:06I worked at Burger King and we did not.
- 42:09We had these round frozen
- 42:11egg patties that would come
- 42:13in that we would heat up.
- 42:15That's what we had.
- 42:16They were like these round egg patties.
- 42:19So the round eggs at McDonald's are real.
- 42:22If you get a folded egg,
- 42:23it is a solution that you pour.
- 42:26That's interesting.
- 42:30Just so you know.
- 42:31If you order a real egg,
- 42:32you get the round one on a McMuffin.
- 42:35Yeah.
- 42:36You know what else is crazy
- 42:37about fast food?
- 42:38Like looking back,
- 42:39when you make sausage at home,
- 42:42you don't deep fry sausage.
- 42:44But at Burger King, we deep fried sausage.
- 42:48I've never deep fried sausage.
- 42:51Neither have I. But when I
- 42:52worked at Burger King,
- 42:52that's how we cooked it.
- 42:54Took the sausage patties,
- 42:55they went in the deep fryer.
- 42:57Denise wants to know how
- 42:57long ago that was.
- 42:59Denise,
- 43:00you and I are the only ones old
- 43:01enough to know about that stuff.
- 43:03How old is Denise?
- 43:06She is a master's athlete in the 65 plus.
- 43:10She made the CrossFit Games.
- 43:12That's awesome.
- 43:13Congratulations.
- 43:14Or like the third or fourth time.
- 43:15That's awesome.
- 43:16Congratulations.
- 43:17So does she know she's in
- 43:18the same division as Paula?
- 43:20Siasia?
- 43:21Shasha?
- 43:23Paula?
- 43:23Shasha?
- 43:24So she just turned 65.
- 43:26I think Paula just recently aged up.
- 43:29I could be wrong.
- 43:31I don't remember.
- 43:32I'm not sure if Paula was in
- 43:3360 to 65 or 65 plus.
- 43:35She's one of my clients.
- 43:37So Denise...
- 43:40You, uh, I worked at McDonald's in 1988.
- 43:44I was three years old.
- 43:48That's crazy.
- 43:49I worked at Burger King in 2000 ish,
- 43:522001 ish,
- 43:55somewhere in that area around 2000.
- 43:58I worked there for like
- 43:59three and a half years.
- 44:00I actually loved my job at Burger King.
- 44:02I'm going to be honest.
- 44:03It was a fun job for me.
- 44:05So I hated my job at McDonald's.
- 44:07I ditched them and went to Wendy's.
- 44:10I loved it, man.
- 44:11I had fun people that I worked with.
- 44:13And the fact that I ate fast food,
- 44:15I ate so bad.
- 44:17Man, I was a bad eater.
- 44:19If you'd have known me then,
- 44:21you would have never
- 44:21thought I was going to be a
- 44:22nutrition coach.
- 44:23Never.
- 44:24Well, when I started at Wendy's,
- 44:26I probably was 180 pounds.
- 44:30And those chicken nuggets
- 44:31are so damn good.
- 44:32Yeah, I agree.
- 44:33Wendy's chicken nuggets are the best.
- 44:35I would 100% agree.
- 44:37Once I was old enough to
- 44:39look at the McDonald's
- 44:40chicken nuggets and be like,
- 44:42these are a weird color.
- 44:43I was like,
- 44:45I don't think I want to eat
- 44:46these anymore.
- 44:47And then,
- 44:48and I had the Burger King and the
- 44:50Wendy's ones,
- 44:51which were like all white meat.
- 44:52I'm like, that's my jam for sure.
- 44:55And then we used to sell
- 44:57Otis Spunk and Meyer cookies.
- 45:00Yeah.
- 45:02You take two of those and
- 45:03squirt a Frosty in the middle.
- 45:04Oh my God.
- 45:05Sounds amazing.
- 45:07That we would eat those all
- 45:08the time when I worked at Wendy's.
- 45:10Those freaking muffins,
- 45:10those Otis Funkmeyer muffins,
- 45:12those are like a thousand
- 45:13calories in a muffin.
- 45:15I would eat one of those for
- 45:16breakfast easily.
- 45:18I have not had anything like
- 45:19that in years.
- 45:20I know.
- 45:21I just, I can't even.
- 45:23It's funny because I'll have
- 45:24clients that'll put that
- 45:25kind of stuff in their food journal.
- 45:26I'm like,
- 45:27I couldn't even think about
- 45:28eating that right now.
- 45:29It didn't even come to my mind, but.
- 45:32It shocked me that Wendy's
- 45:33didn't sell ice cream
- 45:34sandwiches with the Frosty
- 45:36and the cookies.
- 45:37They would have made a mint back then.
- 45:39Yep.
- 45:40They probably would have.
- 45:41Wendy's has gotten a lot bigger now.
- 45:45At 17, I worked at a bakery.
- 45:47Not all raisins and apple
- 45:48pies were raisins.
- 45:49Hmm.
- 45:51that doesn't, that's not nice.
- 45:54No, it's not.
- 45:55Anyways, we're getting off topic,
- 45:57but it was good to end on a good note.
- 45:58So, all right.
- 45:59Well,
- 46:00I think we're in a good spot this week.
- 46:02I think that,
- 46:03I think that we feel good
- 46:05about going into this week.
- 46:06Do you feel a little bit better?
- 46:07I feel a little bit better.
- 46:09I was going to say, you know,
- 46:10I was going to say,
- 46:11I was talking to a client
- 46:12before this and she asked
- 46:13me how I was doing.
- 46:14I was like, honestly, not doing great.
- 46:16Got a lot of stuff in my mind.
- 46:17And I was,
- 46:17I could lie to you and sugarcoat it,
- 46:18but that's not going to help anybody.
- 46:20I think that the main thing
- 46:21is sometimes you feel
- 46:22better when you just get it out,
