Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Lane. You picked up a big four to
- 0:03Speaker 1: one win over your former employer, the New York Islanders
- 0:06Speaker 1: a couple of nights ago. What did a win like
- 0:08Speaker 1: that for Seattle do in terms of not only snapping
- 0:11Speaker 1: that four game skid you were on, but also instilling
- 0:14Speaker 1: some confidence back in this team going into a pretty
- 0:16Speaker 1: tough touch of games this week.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's what it did. Is it? You know,
- 0:20Speaker 2: gave us a little bit more confidence, It gets a
- 0:24Speaker 2: little bit of you know, it takes a smidgeon of
- 0:26Speaker 2: the pressure off, you know, not you know, riding some
- 0:29Speaker 2: kind of a losing streak and you're you've got you know,
- 0:32Speaker 2: a win back in the win call them at the
- 0:34Speaker 2: end of the streak, I guess, so to speak. And
- 0:36Speaker 2: you know, we just continue to move forward from here
- 0:38Speaker 2: against a very dangerous Anaheim team which were two points behind,
- 0:43Speaker 2: and you know, it's a big hockey game for both teams.
- 0:46Speaker 1: In your mind, what did you feel went right for
- 0:49Speaker 1: Seattle against the Islanders. What are the biggest differences in
- 0:51Speaker 1: that game compared to the previous three or four games.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, I think, you know, for the most part, we
- 0:58Speaker 2: got we got some good say is when we needed him.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We played well. I thought our penalty kill was good.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I thought our power play got us a big goal,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and I thought we had more structured defensively and a
- 1:10Speaker 2: little more commitment defensively. You know, we started to leak
- 1:14Speaker 2: oil a little bit, and you know, you kind of wonder,
- 1:19Speaker 2: you know how much of it is. You know how
- 1:21Speaker 2: many miles we traveled, how many games we played, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: all that stuff, and you do have to take some
- 1:27Speaker 2: of that in consideration, I guess, But you know, we
- 1:32Speaker 2: we felt like we played a little bit more committed
- 1:34Speaker 2: in a little better structurally.
- 1:36Speaker 1: How big of a loss will Ben Myers be for
- 1:38Speaker 1: this group? But you get Jacob A. Lonson back and
- 1:40Speaker 1: Freddy Gadreau will be on that line back in the middle,
- 1:43Speaker 1: his natural center position. The loss of Ben Myers plus
- 1:46Speaker 1: now the new I guess, quote unquote new four flyne
- 1:49Speaker 1: how big of a loss would that be for Seattle?
- 1:50Speaker 1: And what are you expecting out of those three guys?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, you know it's a for me, it's a big
- 1:56Speaker 2: loss because you know, when we sent Benny down earlier
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the year, he didn't exactly win when we did that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You know, we're going to find out here he's been
- 2:08Speaker 2: a good player for us in that role, and that
- 2:10Speaker 2: role is a very important role, as you well know
- 2:12Speaker 2: that I believe that that's extremely important role. There's an
- 2:15Speaker 2: identity there, there's a quickness there to him. But at
- 2:19Speaker 2: the same time, we you know, we've got an unbelievable
- 2:22Speaker 2: option and a guy who's you know, a veteran player
- 2:25Speaker 2: in this league that did a really good job going
- 2:28Speaker 2: up and playing on Chandler's line, and now Freddie comes
- 2:31Speaker 2: back down into that position. So don't I don't see
- 2:36Speaker 2: it being as big as maybe you might think. But certainly,
- 2:40Speaker 2: you know, Benny was playing well.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You mentioned this morning Jacob Allatson being sent down earlier
- 2:45Speaker 1: this month, a couple of weeks ago, now that it
- 2:47Speaker 1: was more of a numbers game in that regard. But
- 2:49Speaker 1: getting him back, what does he bring to this lineup
- 2:52Speaker 1: and where do you feel his ceiling as a player is.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Well, he brings energy and he brings an element of physicality.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So and it's an important element, especially in that role.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You know, I don't know what his ceiling is. You
- 3:08Speaker 2: know that'll time will tell time, will you know, sort
- 3:12Speaker 2: of establish that, But certainly, you know, a short term
- 3:19Speaker 2: here right now, we need them to be out there.
- 3:21Speaker 2: We need them to skate, We need them to give
- 3:22Speaker 2: us energy.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Looking at the Anaheim Ducks, a team very similar to Seattle.
- 3:26Speaker 1: They've been up, they've been down, now they're back up,
- 3:28Speaker 1: winning five in a row. They've had some key injuries
- 3:31Speaker 1: that are not going to play here this evening. What
- 3:34Speaker 1: challenges do they present to Seattle and what can you
- 3:38Speaker 1: draw on from previous games experience this year to help
- 3:41Speaker 1: you get two big points in division tonight.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Well, they are missing a couple of guys, there's no
- 3:45Speaker 2: question about it. But you know, we were missing a
- 3:48Speaker 2: couple of guys too and ended up going on a
- 3:50Speaker 2: you know, eight or two runs. So you can't you
- 3:54Speaker 2: can't look at a team's lineup and think that there's
- 3:57Speaker 2: going to be anything easy about it. You know, there's
- 4:00Speaker 2: no question that Carlson being out as a big hole
- 4:03Speaker 2: for them. But at the same time, you know they're
- 4:06Speaker 2: a dangerous hockey team. They've won five in a row
- 4:08Speaker 2: and their goaltenders playing fantastic, so you know they're feeling
- 4:12Speaker 2: it right now. They're riding a wave. I think everybody's
- 4:17Speaker 2: very committed on their hockey team, and you know, the
- 4:21Speaker 2: challenge is the challenge. We I don't think have played
- 4:26Speaker 2: great against them this year. They've exposed us a little
- 4:30Speaker 2: bit with their offensive talent and times, and I think
- 4:33Speaker 2: our goaltenders have been really good. So we're going to
- 4:35Speaker 2: have to be better to night
