- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We can all agree that being a writer is more complicated than it used to be.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Back in the days before the internet was a thing, being a working writer essentially meant that you submitted your articles to magazines and wrote books for publishers.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: There were other outlets, of course, but this was the bread and butter of writing.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now things are a bit more complicated.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: There's marketing, social media, self-publishing options, speaking, courses, and many other ways that you can spend your time as a writer.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: So what should you focus on?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Stephen Covey said things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: This means we have to figure out which things matter most as a writer.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And it really boils down to two things at the end of the day.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And those two things are writing and publishing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: It's doing what it takes to get their words written, then publishing those words, whether it's in books, articles, blog posts, social media, podcasts, or other outlets.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: The bottom line is publishing so the words can impact your readers.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Writing and publishing.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: That's pretty much it.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Those are the priorities every writer should have.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: When you feel confused or mixed up, ask yourself whether you're doing those two things.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: These are the guiding lights that will lead you toward your goals.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
