- Yankees survive replay storm! This is The Sports Reset for Thursday August 20th In MLB, the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 5 to 3 in a game shaped by a disputed seventh-inning review. With the score tied, Pete Alonso sent a deep drive near the foul pole that Baltimore believed was a go-ahead homer, but the foul call stood and Alonso struck out. The loss left the Orioles one-and-a-half games behind the final American League wild-card spot. The Seattle Mariners answered a rough series opener by beating the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers 7 to 5, scoring all seven runs in the first two innings as Dominic Canzone, Josh Naylor and Taylor Ward drove in two apiece. In the WNBA, the league-leading Minnesota Lynx strengthened their hold on the top seed with a 77 to 66 win over the second-place Golden State Valkyries. Looking ahead, the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship opens at Bellerive with Justin Thomas, Sahith Theegala and Sepp Straka starting at even par. The FedEx Cup field is down to 50 players, only 30 advance to the Tour Championship, and defending champion Scottie Scheffler arrives with 21 career Tour victories. In NFL preseason action, the Las Vegas Raiders visit the Houston Texans, while the San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Chargers. In MLB, the Yankees and Orioles return to Camden Yards after Wednesday’s disputed finish, and the Chicago White Sox host the Atlanta Braves in a makeup game. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever visit the Dallas Wings, while the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces host the Connecticut Sun. The LPGA’s CPKC Women’s Open also begins with Moriya Jutanugarn, Stephanie Meadow and Nicole Broch Estrup at even par. Beyond the scoreboard, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Peyton Watson on a four-year, 88 million dollar deal in a five-team NBA trade that sends Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers and an unprotected first-round pick to the Denver Nuggets.
