- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:10Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:13I'm your host Lauren Meisner, the founder of the Australian
- 0:16youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:21Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone.
- 0:23OK, I have decided that this sign, she is a curse.
- 0:27I think it's giving bad omen vibes to the office.
- 0:32She is like one of the final remaining kind of fucky things
- 0:36from our old office. Like things that just like never
- 0:39went well. This sign is always so janky.
- 0:42And I'm so ready for a new sign. And I was reviewing the high
- 0:45stakes episode for tomorrow and the way I'm going to put a
- 0:48screenshot and if you guys watch the way that the sign looked in
- 0:51the high stakes episode yesterday, I was like, that's
- 0:54it. We need to throw this in the
- 0:57garbage. Need to get a new sign.
- 1:00So now I'm convinced that it's like a bad omen.
- 1:02And that's why Centennial had some bad luck.
- 1:05So you know what, we're going to throw her out and hopefully
- 1:07after the Easter weekend, we have something new and magical
- 1:10for you guys. And that will bring us like all
- 1:13the good vibes. The reminder, we're off tomorrow
- 1:14because it's a public holiday here in Australia for Good
- 1:17Friday. And we're also off on Easter
- 1:19Monday because it's also a public holiday.
- 1:21All right, let's just get into the stories for today.
- 1:25So oh God, also sorry for the Bravo fans.
- 1:28I think I might actually do a recap of the summer house
- 1:33situation on our Patreon next week for Sean.
- 1:35So one of the things that we're going to do on Patreon moving
- 1:38forward is when there's like a big thing happening in the Bravo
- 1:41universe or just in pop culture in general, something that I
- 1:44know Sean, my husband would not know about, or maybe like even
- 1:47Annabelle wouldn't know about. I'm going to do an episode where
- 1:50I'm like recapping and retelling for them what's going on.
- 1:53And so I think the summer house stuff I will.
- 1:55I do want to see how it shakes out a little bit.
- 1:57I'm not like a huge fan of emergency episodes.
- 2:00I think sometimes it can be a bit premature, especially when
- 2:03you're dealing with such complicated dynamics like in the
- 2:06summer house situation. There's obviously relationship
- 2:09dynamics, there's friendship, betrayal, there's race dynamics.
- 2:12There's a lot going on. I do kind of like to have a bit
- 2:15of a pause before I cover something like that.
- 2:17But if you guys are Bravo fans and you're interested, I'll keep
- 2:20you guys posted. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll
- 2:22let you know if we're going to cover it on the Patreon, OK?
- 2:25The first story that I have for you guys today is that Tana Mojo
- 2:27and Brooke Schofield say that their podcast tour actually lost
- 2:31them money. So I'm sure most of you guys
- 2:34have seen by now, but Tana and Brooke, they did joint vlogs
- 2:37this week. And in Tana's video, they speak
- 2:39about the cancelled podcast tour that they went on.
- 2:41Basically right before ending the podcast.
- 2:44They did a national tour, I guess around the USI didn't know
- 2:47they didn't do Canada. I saw that in the subreddit
- 2:50today when people were talking about like this particular vlog
- 2:52and they're like, should have come to Canada.
- 2:54Maybe that wouldn't have happened, but they did the US,
- 2:57they did Europe, and then they did Australia as well.
- 2:59So it was basically like a world tour.
- 3:01It's giving Justin Timberlake this is going to affect the
- 3:03tour. So in Tana's video they talk
- 3:05about how they made no money from the tour and even
- 3:07essentially like paid to put on the tour saying that they lost
- 3:11money on it. Never talked about the fact that
- 3:13the international tour ended up being almost net like negative.
- 3:17And we were doing huge shows, like with theaters.
- 3:19But you know, it's so expensive. But things were never told to
- 3:22us. And then we get out there that.
- 3:23Seems like it would be common sense, but it's like you would
- 3:25think at some point someone would be like, hey, just so you
- 3:27know, you're you're losing money.
- 3:29No, we were. Told that we were told a number
- 3:31of an amount of money that we would make doing the
- 3:33international tour. And then it wasn't until we were
- 3:35in Berlin, Germany, that I found out that that was like a lie.
- 3:38But I loved it because when we did find out, it was immediately
- 3:41US against them, yes, and not US against each other.
- 3:44It was like, Oh my God, how did they let us get into this
- 3:46position? Not like that it was anyone
- 3:48person's fault, but it was just kind of like, how did this go?
- 3:50Like so. Unnoticed and and and then
- 3:52obviously there were other people involved that like also
- 3:55didn't know and then learned that lesson as well.
- 3:58But we were the ones on the front lines just like huge
- 4:00crowds. And we're like, how did this
- 4:01possibly happen, that this deal was negotiated so badly that we,
- 4:04like, made no money and then, like, that was also at the wits
- 4:07end of our mental health in general.
- 4:09Yeah, like. It was the only thing that was
- 4:10making it worth it for me. Like, mind you, I was hard for
- 4:13me to stay alive at this point. And I'm like, whatever, this is
- 4:16going to be so worth it. I'm going to be able to support
- 4:18my future family. And then I find out like, oh,
- 4:20actually you could have been. OK.
- 4:22Making money, but you just paid for this.
- 4:24I mean, it was worth it to see everybody and meet everybody.
- 4:26It was like so exciting that. Part, obviously, duh.
- 4:28But it's like we also probably could have done that in like
- 4:31Phoenix. So then we come home and we're
- 4:33like Australia, it's going to be different.
- 4:35We have a month in between. We don't want to pay to do this.
- 4:37You can't pay to send yourself like whatever they're like.
- 4:40It's going to be great. It's going to be 10 times the
- 4:42amount of money still made nothing at.
- 4:46All OK, So I thought that this was such an interesting behind
- 4:49the scenes insight into the business of the canceled
- 4:52podcast. And I think it really shows that
- 4:54maybe the people around them weren't so great.
- 4:57I don't know if it was from an actual like they were taken
- 5:01advantage of perspective or if it was just like a
- 5:03misunderstanding of what they were putting on.
- 5:07And I don't mean from like Tana and Brooke's perspective.
- 5:09I mean like the companies that were behind this tour.
- 5:11I so vividly remember Brooke one time, and I don't know when it
- 5:17was. I don't know where she said
- 5:19this. I don't know if it was on
- 5:20TikTok. I don't know if it was on
- 5:21YouTube, on the podcast. I don't know.
- 5:23But there was some point near the ending of canceled where she
- 5:26talked about how she couldn't believe the opportunities that
- 5:29the podcast gave her. And she recalled this moment of
- 5:31like sitting in a meeting room with all these people who were
- 5:34showing them revenue numbers being like, this is how much the
- 5:37podcast in the tour are going to generate for you.
- 5:40And she was saying, I just couldn't imagine.
- 5:42I couldn't believe the numbers I was seeing.
- 5:43I could not believe that I was being told I was going to make
- 5:47this amount of money. I grew up not being able to even
- 5:49fathom that amount of money. And then in this YouTube clip, I
- 5:51think it sounds almost like they are kind of referencing maybe
- 5:55not that exact meeting, but like meetings like that and with the
- 5:59people that were involved in those meetings.
- 6:01I feel like when I really think about it, doing a giant world
- 6:05tour like they did and going to places that are so expensive,
- 6:08like they were flying first class, you know, they were
- 6:11staying in the nicest places. And then of course, like coming
- 6:14all the way to Australia. Like these are very expensive
- 6:16faraway locations. And they also brought a lot of
- 6:19their friends with them, I think on the tour.
- 6:22So I understand how it adds up. There are a lot of people on
- 6:25Reddit who are like, how is that even possible?
- 6:26But like, it adds up At the end of the day, it adds up.
- 6:29I don't know about the other legs of the tour, but I do have
- 6:31some very mild tea on the Australian leg and it doesn't
- 6:35explain necessarily like the money side of things, but I
- 6:37think it can kind of help explain some of the questionable
- 6:41decisions that were seemingly made around this tour.
- 6:43So when they announced the Australian tour, we reached out
- 6:46to the team that was putting it on for them here.
- 6:50We had like APR relationship with them.
- 6:52We reached out to them and we were really pushing to be
- 6:54granted a press opportunity with them.
- 6:56So just like when the Bravo housewives come to Australia for
- 6:59whatever, you know, sometimes we'll get like an interview slot
- 7:02with them. So we were pushing for like any
- 7:04type of access like that. And Tana, I don't know if Brooke
- 7:07had, but Tana had definitely done a bit of press with some
- 7:10like media outlets here, like youth media outlets here before
- 7:13the tour. So we knew that she was doing
- 7:15this. We knew that they were kind of
- 7:16doing this like mini press tour to promote the tour here.
- 7:19So yes, we reached out and we were trying to negotiate getting
- 7:23an interview slot while they were here.
- 7:24And I would argue that we were probably one of the most
- 7:28relevant, if not the most relevant, like youth media brand
- 7:31to have an opportunity to interview them.
- 7:33And I'm not even saying playing from like, Oh my God, I'm a huge
- 7:35fan perspective because I understand the implications of
- 7:38interviewing people who are as problematic as Tana and Brooke.
- 7:40It's just more from like an Internet culture perspective for
- 7:43the brand. Anyways, we didn't interview
- 7:46them obviously. And the reason being that the
- 7:48people at the top who were like basically the PR people helping
- 7:52plan the tour for them here, they had to approve it.
- 7:55And they didn't approve it because they thought that it
- 7:57didn't make sense to promote a podcast tour on another podcast.
- 8:02So because we are a podcast network and the interview that
- 8:06we would want to do with Tana or Brooke would be on our podcast,
- 8:10I'm sure we would also clip it for TikTok and stuff.
- 8:12But obviously we would be filming it for the podcast.
- 8:15They thought that that would like cannibalize the promotion
- 8:17that they were doing for the Council podcast tour, which is
- 8:21just the most diabolically out of touch thing that I think I've
- 8:27heard from a marketing team. It's such a fundamental
- 8:30misunderstanding of how young people engage with content and
- 8:34how to leverage new media in this very like creator dominated
- 8:37space now. And first of all, we were not
- 8:40competing with the canceled podcast at all.
- 8:42It was, I guess, low key flattering that they said that.
- 8:45But regardless, I think even if we were, I was just like, have
- 8:49these people never heard of like cross audience collabs?
- 8:54Have they never thought that the people who listen to an Internet
- 8:57culture podcast may also be interested in listening to
- 9:01another Internet culture podcast hosted by two huge Internet
- 9:05culture figures? Like aren't you looking for that
- 9:08overlap an audience so you can actually promote it to the
- 9:11people who might care? And you could argue, OK, well,
- 9:13maybe they want to reach a new audience, yes, but the audience
- 9:16that cares about Internet culture, YouTube personalities,
- 9:20what's happening online also need to know that this tour is
- 9:22coming to Australia and we have a daily podcast that talks about
- 9:25the news about what's happening in Internet culture.
- 9:27So it was just such like a weird experience.
- 9:30It was a very weird answer. Like, of course, I don't expect
- 9:33to ever get like access to anyone, right?
- 9:35You know, it's like such a privilege when we do, especially
- 9:38building it ourselves, like building Centennial ourselves,
- 9:40You know, it's not like we have some big brand name behind us.
- 9:43I would never expect anything like that.
- 9:45I don't want this to come off as like entitled.
- 9:46But the explanation that they gave us is what I found most
- 9:50interesting. Like, that's what I found so
- 9:52shocking because to me, it just represents like a complete
- 9:55misunderstanding of how this space works, how to with the new
- 10:00media in general. And I feel like that experience
- 10:03kind of gave me a tiny bit of insight into the breadth of
- 10:06understanding and the acumen of the people who were like on the
- 10:09business side of that tour and how misguided they seemed.
- 10:15And that's the T All right. The next word that I have for
- 10:18you guys today. So Michaela Aguera, she is
- 10:20defending herself against users who claim that she heavily
- 10:24filters her Tik Toks. So last week, Michaela Naguera
- 10:27attended the Hannah Montana anniversary special and almost
- 10:30right away, her attendance at the event went viral.
- 10:32Clips of Michaela on the red carpet have been circulating all
- 10:34week because users basically can't stop like bullying her for
- 10:37what she looked like at the event, saying that she looks so
- 10:40different in these clips than in her TikTok videos and accusing
- 10:44her of heavily filtering her content.
- 10:46I feel like when it comes to Michaela, the unfortunate
- 10:48reality is like, sometimes there is validity behind what people
- 10:52are saying. So, you know, kind of the main
- 10:53argument here is that Michaela makes a living off of selling us
- 10:57like beauty and skin care products.
- 10:59And so to be using filters is deceptive to that practice.
- 11:03And then, of course, the problem with Michaela, she has kind of
- 11:06developed this reputation similar to Jaclyn Hill, where
- 11:09people just believe she's always deceptive.
- 11:11She's seemingly been deceptive about so many moments in her
- 11:14career that people just don't trust her at all.
- 11:16And so there's kind of two things happening here, right?
- 11:19Because a lot of creators use these filters and still sell us
- 11:23products. Just earlier this week, Alex
- 11:25Earl posted a video where she is like promoting her skin care
- 11:28line or whatever, and the beauty filter like glitched off her
- 11:30face. And, you know, huge beauty
- 11:33brands, huge skin care brands, like when you see their
- 11:35marketing, their advertising, of course, those photos are
- 11:38retouched, they're filtered, they're photoshopped, whatever.
- 11:41It's definitely not unique to Michaela, but she has gotten
- 11:44herself into this pickle. But I think because people
- 11:47really don't like her because of these reasons, then it really
- 11:50snowballs from like this is valid criticism to like straight
- 11:54up bullying. So anyways, this discourse
- 11:57around Michaela and what she looked like at the event
- 11:59bothered her, understandably. And so she has now made a
- 12:02response. The real.
- 12:03Reason I'm making this video is because I'm tired of my name
- 12:07constantly being lied on and I can never defend myself and I'm
- 12:13just done with that. I have said so many times that I
- 12:18do not film my videos with filters and I will fucking die
- 12:23on that hill. I am filming in the TikTok app
- 12:26as we speak. There is 0 filter on my face
- 12:30right now. Nothing.
- 12:32No beauty mode, no face altering filter.
- 12:35I don't even have lights on. I'm just sitting in front of a
- 12:38window on a cloudy day and this is what I look like.
- 12:44I have filmed front camera on the TikTok app for six fucking
- 12:48years and this is what I look like.
- 12:50And there is nothing I can do about the fact that you think I
- 12:54look different in person. Now when I was on the Hannah
- 12:57Montana carpet, I look fucking hideous in that Entertainment
- 13:02Tonight video. That's just a fact.
- 13:04OK, I look terrible in that fucking video, but any other
- 13:09videos you see of me at the event that were filmed by
- 13:13influencers or wind influencers, I don't fucking look like that
- 13:17video. Like I don't know what happened
- 13:19there, but people took that video and just ran with it.
- 13:23That that's what I really look like.
- 13:25I will. Say, as somebody who has been on
- 13:26a lot of red carpets before, the lighting on those red carpets
- 13:30can be insane. Half the time there's actually
- 13:32no lighting, which is worse obviously, because they want the
- 13:36videographers, the photographers to be able to use their own
- 13:39lighting and to be able to control the lighting for
- 13:41themselves. And so sometimes, you know,
- 13:43you'll have like flashes of light going off here.
- 13:46You'll have somebody else's like selfie phone camera thing beside
- 13:49you. Like the lighting can be really
- 13:51chaotic if you are not in control of the lighting that's
- 13:53like right in front of you. So I understand.
- 13:55Or other times like the lighting is up lighting because they're
- 13:59trying to illuminate the media wall where it has like the
- 14:02branding with the sponsors on it, like that's what they care
- 14:04about. So I will say like, it's not
- 14:07that crazy to me that people think that she looked really
- 14:10different in this lighting and that she's trying to defend that
- 14:12it's like the red carpet lighting.
- 14:14Because I think there probably is a belief that like if you're
- 14:17on a red carpet, it has like the most pristine lighting in my
- 14:20experience, especially for something like this, like this
- 14:22is not like the Met Gala or, or like the Oscars or something.
- 14:25Like the lighting can be so shoddy.
- 14:28It can be so shit. So I kind of understand what
- 14:31she's saying here. And when I personally contrast
- 14:34my experiences being on red carpets like that and then, you
- 14:38know, sitting here even and filming every day where I'm
- 14:40sitting still, I can control the angle that I'm looking at the
- 14:43camera. I can control the lighting.
- 14:45I mean, actually, can I control the lighting?
- 14:47Because as you guys have seen over the past couple of weeks,
- 14:49now that the seasons are changing, the lighting in here
- 14:52is getting insane. Sometimes the sun is quite
- 14:55literally like right in our eyes.
- 14:57And I actually really don't like that.
- 14:58But I probably look different. Like I probably look quite
- 15:02different when the lighting looks like that versus, you
- 15:04know, how it looks right now, which is like end of the day, it
- 15:06can be really confronting when you are used to seeing yourself
- 15:10in a certain way, like at certain angles on video with
- 15:13certain lighting and then you see it in a different way.
- 15:16And I understand that's what viewers probably felt about that
- 15:18with Michaela too. They're like, wait, we normally
- 15:20think you look like this and in these videos and in these clips,
- 15:23you look like like this, but like she has millions of eyes on
- 15:26her every day. I'm not trying to be a Michaela
- 15:27apologist, OK, I know. But like she has millions of
- 15:31eyes on her every single day. You best believe if I had
- 15:35millions of eyes on me every single day, I would be
- 15:37controlling the lighting and the angles.
- 15:39That is a lot of pressure. But the other thing that I
- 15:42wanted to say, like I personally, I don't know if I
- 15:45believe that she's not using at least a beauty filter all the
- 15:49time. I don't know if I would say
- 15:50she's using like the full on TikTok filters, but I think she
- 15:54probably is using the beauty filter.
- 15:56It looks like the beauty filter to me.
- 15:58OK. But I think that this is where
- 16:01for the sake of our own sanity and young people's mental health
- 16:06and self worth and self perception, I feel like there
- 16:09should be some type of like digital literacy education
- 16:12around filtering and distorting images and videos.
- 16:15We have that discussion for AI all the time.
- 16:18Like you can find countless resources on how to train
- 16:21yourself to detect if a piece of media or content is generated by
- 16:24AI. But I think we also need that so
- 16:27that young people can detect that or just like all of us.
- 16:30But but I think it's probably most impressionable for young
- 16:32people can detect like editing and filters and things like that
- 16:36on various different apps. There is a lot of research about
- 16:40how horrible it is for all of us to constantly see distorted
- 16:45filtered images. And you hear stories about how
- 16:48people go into plastic surgeons and they bring like filtered
- 16:51photos of themselves. Like they bring like Facetune
- 16:53photos of themselves or they bring photos of themselves with
- 16:55like a Snapchat filter. And they're like, can you make
- 16:57me look like this? You know, it's a really like a
- 16:59dark place that we're at in the digital world right now when it
- 17:03comes to that. And I do think no matter what
- 17:06people say, we should go into watching TikTok with the
- 17:09assumption that or like any, you know, platform, social platform,
- 17:13that people are at the very least editing their appearance
- 17:17to an extent or, you know, like controlling what they look like
- 17:21to an extent with the lighting, the angles, whatever.
- 17:24OK. And the last story that I have
- 17:26for you guys today, this is an April Fool's esque 1.
- 17:31So the Kit Kat heist story drama has left critics questioning
- 17:38what's real and what is marketing.
- 17:40So the Internet has been filled with discussions around this
- 17:44infamous Kit Kat heist. This all started circulating
- 17:48last weekend when it was reported that a 12 ton shipment
- 17:51of Kit Kats were stolen during transit in Europe.
- 17:54The truck had left a factory in Italy and was on route to
- 17:56Poland. The missing shipment is
- 17:59reportedly 413,793 units and seems to be from the Kit Kats F1
- 18:06range. So that's like over 400,000 Kit
- 18:09Kats they're saying or missing. Now, this did leave social media
- 18:12users questioning the legitimacy of this heist, partly because it
- 18:16could be a marketing ploy to drum up publicity for the
- 18:18chocolate line and partly because of the proximity to
- 18:21April Fools. When people started questioning
- 18:23this, Nestle confirmed to various media outlets that it
- 18:27was true. They said we've always
- 18:29encouraged people to have a break with Kit Kat, but it seems
- 18:32thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break
- 18:35with more than 12 metric tons of our chocolate.
- 18:38I think there's still lots of people who are skeptical
- 18:40because, you know, their press statement, like, we've always
- 18:43encouraged people to have a break.
- 18:44But it seems that the thieves have taken this too literally.
- 18:47Like, that is such flowery language to explain that there's
- 18:52been this, like, giant heist, right?
- 18:54But I would say because mainstream media was reporting
- 18:57on this, people started to believe it.
- 19:01Kit Kat has also made several statements on their social media
- 19:03accounts. So the first one was made three
- 19:05days ago and it read, we can confirm that 12 tons of Kit Kat
- 19:08products were stolen while in transit between our factory in
- 19:11central Italy and their destination in Poland.
- 19:14We are working closely with local authorities and supply
- 19:17chain partners to investigate the good news.
- 19:19There are no concerns for consumer safety and supply is
- 19:22not affected. Thank you.
- 19:23The second one was posted yesterday announcing the launch
- 19:26of a stolen Kit Kat tracker, where users can enter the batch
- 19:31number found on the back of their Kit Kat to see if they
- 19:33have been sold one of the missing Kit Kats.
- 19:36And they also doubled down saying this was not a joke.
- 19:39Now after the news broke, many different consumer brands saw
- 19:42this as an opportunity to jump on a silly viral moment.
- 19:46The comment section of Kit Kat statements are filled with other
- 19:49brands. For example, Lipton Iced Tea
- 19:51left a comment saying I believe you Boo.
- 19:53Meanwhile, Barilla wrote official statement in response
- 19:55to the official statement. In response to the other
- 19:57official statements. We stand with our F1 family.
- 20:01Domino's has probably been making the most headlines with
- 20:04their response. The pizza chain issued their own
- 20:06statement where they offered condolences and then wrote on a
- 20:09completely unrelated note. We're pleased to announce that
- 20:12we will now be selling a new Kit Kat pizza.
- 20:14And there are so many brands putting out these like official
- 20:17statement Instagram tiles. And we saw something so similar
- 20:21just last week where brands were using like the Hannah Montana
- 20:2420th anniversary reunion collateral, like marketing
- 20:26collateral and like putting their products in the different
- 20:29wigs. And it literally, it's just like
- 20:30a sea of not on social media. It's actually, it's not, it's
- 20:33really not it. I fear what people are going to
- 20:35start wanting from brands on social media because this is
- 20:38just like overkill, right? Every brand is excited to jump
- 20:41on these like quirky viral moments and have this like silly
- 20:44little take on it. And I feel actually we're going
- 20:47to head more towards like corporate polished marketing
- 20:50again, because people are going to get so over this.
- 20:52OK, Anyways, we don't know what happened here, but the recent
- 20:57update of them releasing this like Kit Kat Tracker has left a
- 21:01lot of people questioning whether this is actually true or
- 21:04not. A lot of marketing commentators
- 21:08and Internet culture experts seem to think that this is just
- 21:11a marketing ploy, that this is not true.
- 21:13The Silence brand Substack discussed this in their recent
- 21:16edition. They wrote quote despite no
- 21:18evidence of the heist other than Nestle's claims.
- 21:20Articles from Routers, CNN, New York Times, The Atlantic, Fox
- 21:24Business, Business Insider, Fortune, The Guardian, and more
- 21:27all ran the headlines as fact, with only a few outlets like
- 21:31Today in AP tacking on a Nestle says qualifier.
- 21:34Is this potentially a master class in reactive social as a
- 21:37crisis response? Absolutely.
- 21:39But the lack of evidence around the heist coupled with the
- 21:42uncritical acceptance of the company's Trust Me Bro statement
- 21:46issued by PR Newswire is, I don't know, not an ideal
- 21:49prognosis for the bedridden art of media literacy.
- 21:53It will be such a strong example of the issues within mainstream
- 21:58media right now because first of all, we all know there's like a
- 22:01true decline in trust in media, right?
- 22:04And this will definitely not help that.
- 22:06But I also think that this would show kind of that we're all part
- 22:09of the same fucking rat race. Like, it doesn't matter if you
- 22:12are like a solo podcaster, a solo creator, like a news
- 22:15fluencer or you're part of a big conglomerate.
- 22:18We're all on the same kind of like viral hamster wheel, like
- 22:22clickbait culture where everybody like, needs to get the
- 22:25story out and everybody has no resources anymore.
- 22:29There is such a lack of resourcing in media in general.
- 22:32You know, stories like this would have been fact checked by
- 22:34entire teams, let's say 20 years ago.
- 22:36And over the last couple of decades, those teams have been
- 22:40dwindling. And everybody has so much
- 22:42pressure to get like the next viral story out and to get the
- 22:45little like face to camera green screen TikTok up.
- 22:48Whether you're, like I said, a mainstream media outlet or a
- 22:52news fluencer or just a regular person that wants to share an on
- 22:55the discourse. And I've also seen, off the back
- 22:58of this Kit Kat stuff, a lot of interesting takes about how
- 23:01April Fools doesn't actually work in a digital space
- 23:04dominated by misinformation. And I completely agree with
- 23:08that. I actually feel like it's a bit
- 23:10irresponsible for people to partake in April Fools online,
- 23:14if that makes sense. In your real life, whatever, do
- 23:16whatever you want online. In the current like climate that
- 23:20we all live in and the issues that we all face when it comes
- 23:23to communication online, I actually do think it's
- 23:26irresponsible to engage in April Fools.
- 23:28Maybe that's a hot take. Anyways, guys, that's it for
- 23:30mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
