- 0:41LLC. Hello, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:05welcome to another fun episode of Athletics, LLC as promised.
- 1:09I'm going to go right to left instead of left to right.
- 1:12So we're going to start this evening off with Lucius good
- 1:15evening, everyone. Lamar's Johnson Ryan.
- 1:19The third I do because I'm us and last but definitely not
- 1:26least Clyde. Good evening, everyone
- 1:29big-league. I see, you have a new setup and
- 1:33magically Lamar does not. Hey, you know, where I live is
- 1:43low-rent man. Congrats But on the new digs
- 1:47niggly, correct, I know it's summertime, I had to relocate
- 1:51that the dining room wasn't kicking it anymore.
- 1:54The sunshine, are you like Ron Ron?
- 1:57Burgundy? Do you have many leather-bound
- 1:59books? But it's well, it's a good
- 2:06movie. It's a good.
- 2:06That was a good reference solution.
- 2:08I'm good. I'm good.
- 2:09Hey, Stay classy in the corner. Okay, there you go.
- 2:14Well, we have to start off by addressing.
- 2:17A unaddressed not identified topic from last week that was
- 2:21brought to my attention. So we had addressed the
- 2:25malfunctions of the team qualifications of our cross
- 2:28country championships, but we wanted to add a little
- 2:31clarification for the individuals.
- 2:33So sir. Lucius if you don't mind take
- 2:36that away. Well I think that when it comes
- 2:38to the the individual stuff there's always been a thing in
- 2:42place that if you're an individual that's on a team the
- 2:46top Top whatever number is chosen qualifies for the next
- 2:50level, that's always been a thing.
- 2:51So I don't I'm not sure, you know, I think Lamar mentioned it
- 2:54earlier. I'm not sure that part of his
- 2:55broken. I think the bigger issue will
- 2:57be, how do individuals that don't have a team, get qualified
- 3:02for the first round, the regional part of.
- 3:04So that's something I was, you know, that's something.
- 3:06The committee has to come with the mean.
- 3:08I'm sure that happens in golf. I'm sure it happens in tennis,
- 3:12some of the other team / individual type Sports, and, you
- 3:15know, that's for you. That's above our pay grade off
- 3:18the figure that out, but in the day and also something was
- 3:22mentioned to me, also that we they thought we were saying that
- 3:26they ran the AKA at the regional level.
- 3:28I am aware, they run the 10K trees will level but they do
- 3:31qualify all your long getting points by running a cape.
- 3:34So let me clarify that we are very aware that they run 10K at
- 3:38the regional level but you do corner points at AK throughout
- 3:43the year and a k and 10 K is quite a disparity.
- 3:46Yes, one plus one does not equal two and I'm not in this case at
- 3:51all. Well, let's get the night
- 3:53started. We've got some great topics
- 3:55tonight and let's start off with some of some of the NCAA
- 3:59climate. That's being addressed out there
- 4:03with NCAA Sports being physically, fiscally
- 4:06responsible, where can we trim some of that fat without
- 4:09actually cutting off the whole piece of me where how do we save
- 4:12our programs and our coaches but still make some impact within
- 4:16our Natural means that the NCAA is imparting on us.
- 4:20Yeah, I can go first on this one.
- 4:22I would probably that. I think that the biggest thing
- 4:24for me is that we talked a lot about these athletic
- 4:28associations, and he's University in businesses and
- 4:31therefore, they have to be business minded.
- 4:33And so when you're out there building facilities building,
- 4:39you know, these these Cathedrals for football, not for the that
- 4:44the track Cathedral, you leave that one alone.
- 4:46But I think that we have to keep in mind that, you know, if you
- 4:51can't afford to run your all your programs, we shouldn't be
- 4:55pouring, tons and millions and millions of dollars into
- 4:58facilities that you use for three or four months, you know.
- 5:03Yeah, I understand it's a game of the finances who has the
- 5:09prettiest dish in the most fat. But there's people's lives
- 5:14involved, here they are, there's children.
- 5:16In involved. And I think that we have to
- 5:18think about that. So if you run it more like a
- 5:20business, where you're trying to make a gain at the end of the
- 5:22year, it's not about how big and how pretty you can build.
- 5:25If you can't afford it, don't do that.
- 5:27I think those are definitely places.
- 5:28You could come back and you can say programs and you could save
- 5:32coaches After you sir. For me, I would agree with all
- 5:42of that. For me, this is always been an
- 5:45interesting topic that keeping up with the Joneses.
- 5:47This is obviously a big way that we have whatever you want to
- 5:52call it waste Fraud and Abuse within the NCAA Sports room.
- 5:57But for me, I look at it more. So to drill down into individual
- 6:03sports in the way that they may conduct business.
- 6:05For example, I never And I never understood.
- 6:10And I've had things thrown at me for suggestions, but I don't
- 6:13understand the idea that during football season, a home football
- 6:18team needs to spend money on hotel rooms at my previous
- 6:23school. I assure you that the home Hotel
- 6:27budget for the football team was equal to or bigger than the
- 6:30entire track and Field's travel bus.
- 6:33I understand the football makes the most money.
- 6:35I understand that basketball makes a lot of money, but they
- 6:38also waste a lot of money. And so, I think that before
- 6:42departments, get into the nitty-gritty of trying to reduce
- 6:46salaries cut programs, fire coaches.
- 6:50I think that it want to save the most money, if we're all have to
- 6:54be more, fiscally responsible, I think you got to ask that same
- 6:57Sacrifice from the people who burned the mold through the most
- 7:00cash and that's obviously, Quote, unquote revving Sports,
- 7:05which is a term that I have an issue with in general.
- 7:08But to me though that's a, that's a really big example of
- 7:11something that I know instantly could save small programs at
- 7:16school X y&z. If you would just eliminate that
- 7:19reality, now, the pushback that I've gotten on that comes from
- 7:22certain. People have been all the
- 7:24football. Players need to stay in the
- 7:25hotels before their home football games.
- 7:27It's a safety issue. I'm like really are they somehow
- 7:31in more danger Monday. Day through Thursday then they
- 7:34would be on Friday and Saturday. I don't really understand that
- 7:37idea at all. I mean I know you got fans and
- 7:40stuff but you know you got to do what you got to do.
- 7:43Those kind of examples, you know, don't Nixon.
- 7:48I couldn't, I could not agree with that particular example
- 7:53anymore. I think I've all the things that
- 7:56money gets spent on a Collegiate programs.
- 7:58I think, that's the one that's never made any sense to me.
- 8:00And I think we made it worse is when I was at, when I was at
- 8:02Boise State, I asked coach Pete about it, like why they didn't
- 8:05do it. And he just said, and then he
- 8:08what he said to me, was it to make any sense.
- 8:10So, here's one of the best football programs in the entire
- 8:12country that won the most games in the 90s and, and the 2000s.
- 8:18And they don't do it. So, you know, I, I couldn't
- 8:22agree with you more there. I think from from the
- 8:25perspective of other sports and doing things that you can do,
- 8:30although it might be somewhat inconvenient.
- 8:32I think, if all of have all of our track meets were other than
- 8:36conference meets were, if they were all one day instead of two,
- 8:39that will be a humongous savings that would allow us still to,
- 8:43for the most part compute, our Seasons.
- 8:46I think if you kept The majority like if it's a sport where
- 8:50there's a conference tournament, like that's how you qualify for
- 8:52the national meet then. It doesn't matter that you play
- 8:56somebody three time zones away. I would say eliminate that and
- 8:59make, you know, baseball basketball volleyball trap, make
- 9:03their schedules, much more Regional.
- 9:07There's no need to travel two and three time zones.
- 9:09When you have to go through your time zone to get to the National
- 9:12Championship, which at the end of the day, collegially is what
- 9:15we're supposed to be doing. I think the most part track has
- 9:18done that we don't very often. Do do three times on travels
- 9:22anymore. We used to and every now, and
- 9:25again, it happens. But you know, I just think just
- 9:28simple things like that. Like, let's just see what that
- 9:30does. If you eliminated football
- 9:32football team staying at hotels at home games, and you made
- 9:36track meets one one day instead of two and you made travel for
- 9:40all team sports regional. I think that savings saves
- 9:44everybody's job. And I think no Claude spoke to
- 9:50the point of this is to keep it up with the Joneses deal and you
- 9:53think that is so-and-so down the street store that I have to do
- 9:56it as well, but you have to do what's best for your program and
- 9:59was you know what's what you can afford, let's just put it out
- 10:02there, you can't afford it, don't do it.
- 10:04You know, I think that other thing too is, sometimes you get
- 10:06caught up with, you know, well I heard that this is school X
- 10:11built this, or we need to have it also and, you know, I've had
- 10:14people say to me, well, I need this tool.
- 10:17Win know what you need to win. Is you need great athlete.
- 10:20Accompany coaching staff and the guts to go out of coaching hard
- 10:23every day. That's what whence that's what
- 10:25wins in any sport. But you know, new facility, No
- 10:31More Travel and all that stuff. If those are things that kids
- 10:34are looking for, and I'm not interested.
- 10:37I want, I want athletes that want to come here.
- 10:39Want to get a great education and two that are willing to get
- 10:44there to get there hands. A little dirty, let's put it
- 10:46that way. I definitely do that.
- 10:51I mean the the shiny toys you get a lot of people use to sign
- 10:59recruits. I've been winning playing
- 11:02against that game for a long time.
- 11:04Like yeah, School ex got all that but at the end of the day,
- 11:07you got one stop squat rack at a time that you won't lifted.
- 11:11And yeah, the tracks beat up, but at the end of the day
- 11:14Olympians can train on it. So why can't you train on?
- 11:17You know, now, having landed in the power 5, you know, I'm like,
- 11:23oh wow, we have all these. We have all these toys out here
- 11:27and it's amazing but it doesn't make the kids run any faster.
- 11:30It doesn't make the coaches coaching better.
- 11:33And so I've always been, you know, slightly Blown Away with
- 11:39with like the keeping up with the Joneses ship, it just drives
- 11:41me crazy because there are so many people that are trying to
- 11:44do it. They do it badly and Italy, the
- 11:48entire department, suffers for it.
- 11:50And the Joneses you should be trying to keep up with other
- 11:52ones that are winning. And I mean, by buying the things
- 11:56that they have, I mean, like performing at the level that
- 11:58they perform, that's how you can.
- 12:01Absolutely. I think I think, I think a lot
- 12:05of departments. If they take a different view
- 12:09point of how to trim versus versus looking at it, at what we
- 12:14should trim. I think that they would go get a
- 12:17lot more stretch out of the dollars that they're trying to
- 12:20you. Yeah.
- 12:25So keeping in the realm of money and elevating the level little
- 12:28bit. Let's talk about the shoe
- 12:30companies and how we generate Revenue within our sport.
- 12:35Are they helping us? Are they hurting us?
- 12:37They the root of our problem. What is their stance on that are
- 12:40they, are they going to help us? I don't know if persevere is
- 12:45quite the word I want to use but Prosper.
- 12:47Maybe if we're talking about, I mean, obviously we would just
- 12:51talk about, you know, they do a phenomenal job of helping it the
- 12:54colleges universities and the things that they do them.
- 12:56But I think we're talking about the effect.
- 12:58They have on the squirrel globally and thenö as my main
- 13:03client likes to talk about that middle section, that needs to be
- 13:06protected. I think that the big contracts
- 13:09that the shoe companies award, these athletes is a big part of
- 13:13the problem. Because then there's no, there's
- 13:14no trickle-down, there's no money left and so those are the
- 13:17people that get left out. So I think that if there It was
- 13:21a more of a system, like some of the other professionals workers
- 13:24had, you know, where there's a rookie cap on, how much money
- 13:26you can make, that you have to go out and earn these huge
- 13:31contracts that they come from winning medals and stuff like
- 13:33that. And I just running faster.
- 13:35Jumping far one time. I think that would change the
- 13:38whole thing, but that's going to be something that it's kind of
- 13:41like, you know, Clyde just talked about keeping up with the
- 13:44Joneses. Well, if shoe company X is going
- 13:48to pay you 500,000, I'm gonna offer you six.
- 13:51Yes, and then it deprives just goes up and up and up and I
- 13:55think that's a huge problem as far as the global effect of
- 13:59development in the sport because those kids can't do that.
- 14:03Middle faction can't afford them.
- 14:05You know, it's an interesting question.
- 14:10I'm kind of torn on that actually on one hand, the shoe
- 14:14companies being bald in our sport are probably.
- 14:19The reason that our sport has been able to survive, they
- 14:22absolutely - we've done but I think their presence and their
- 14:30exclusive presence also limit the potential growth for what
- 14:34our sport can be. I don't know why our sport has
- 14:38to be Purely backed by shoe companies.
- 14:42Like I don't understand that and I don't understand the business
- 14:45behind. Why administrator X y&z can't go
- 14:49out and get a more a more broad array of sponsorship dollars
- 14:57from from totally different entities.
- 15:00And I think if the shoe companies didn't have such a
- 15:03monopoly on the way things function in our sport ultimately
- 15:06that would serve everybody better.
- 15:09Better. But I honestly don't know the
- 15:11mechanism to how that would happen or why it can't happen.
- 15:15Hmm. Are we sure that the shoe
- 15:17companies are the problem when it comes to get other
- 15:20sponsorships? I don't get too expensive.
- 15:22Damn, I get the sense that it's worth of the Congress were to
- 15:26call themselves these days, right?
- 15:27And, and that's, and that's what I'm saying.
- 15:29I don't, I don't blame, you know, like we all understand
- 15:32Nike is a huge benefactor of USA Track and Field.
- 15:35I don't blame you for that. That's not Isis problem, but why
- 15:38don't we Have 10 of those. Like why you know why can't we
- 15:43have different entities? Maybe not another shoe company
- 15:46per se because obviously that would be a concert conflict of
- 15:48interest to Nike but y know why, whatever if Nikes going to put
- 15:52up five million dollars, why can't Coca-Cola?
- 15:55Put up the same five minutes and why do we not have people
- 15:58working in those positions to make?
- 16:00That kind of stuff happens? Like I don't under, I've never
- 16:03understood that. Kind of a nice free on that one.
- 16:06Clyde none whatsoever appetite, but after glutes are got the
- 16:11answer. We're waiting on you.
- 16:13I don't know that I have the answer, but I do know that we
- 16:17can. I think we can do different
- 16:19business differently and, and do a much be, but much better
- 16:22stewards over the amount of money that the shoe companies do
- 16:25put into our sport individually. Lucius hit that directly on the
- 16:30head at the end of the day. I don't care how good of an
- 16:33athlete you were in college. You should.
- 16:35Not be immediately paid five times.
- 16:37The amount of somebody that's one of the last two metals in
- 16:39your event like that just doesn't make any sense to me.
- 16:42And I don't necessarily want a cap on anybody, but I do think
- 16:47some common sense should like at the end of the day.
- 16:49If I look at two people and one's got two NCAA championships
- 16:53and other one has no, incidentally championships and
- 16:55two Olympic medals, no way. The NCAA Champion should be
- 16:58getting out paid. You know what I mean?
- 17:00Unless there's like a 20-year age difference in the first
- 17:02person is like, at the end, like, I get that.
- 17:05But that's not where we're at most times.
- 17:07Like most times someone who's good, who's currently good.
- 17:11Gets their money cut in order to pay the hot new Collegiate.
- 17:15And that doesn't make any sense. That's part of what runs people
- 17:18out of our Sport and makes people bitter within our sport.
- 17:21What I would love to see happen. What I would love to see happen
- 17:25is foundational wealth being spreadable spread into the
- 17:28sport. What is the thing we've beat
- 17:31this to death on four or five shows we need nor American tour,
- 17:36we need more meets. I would love to see one shoe
- 17:41company. Sponsor a meet just to meet
- 17:43meaning is not only Nike athletes, it's not only Adidas
- 17:46athletes but it's a track meet like partner with USA Track &
- 17:50Field to put together a meat partner with Canadian Athletics
- 17:54to put together a me, like, I would love to see that happen
- 17:58and then to collapse point that that brings in the ability to go
- 18:03after more. And more variant sponsors
- 18:07because then there's other places that they can get product
- 18:10placement right now, the way we have, it is pretty much like you
- 18:14got one logo on your uniform and you got the athletes, unless
- 18:19you're one of like, for sponsors that are willing to kick in a
- 18:22large amount of go to USA Track and Field or World Athletics
- 18:25went from the global perspective.
- 18:26But for the most part, there's way more Billboards out there if
- 18:30we would change the model and and offer different things.
- 18:34If we put together, Whether series and said, hey look you
- 18:37can sponsor an entire track meet.
- 18:38So all the commercials for that whole track meet like every
- 18:41third commercial is going to be yours, like those kind of
- 18:44things. I think are out there and that
- 18:46would that would build the the belly like we like to talk about
- 18:50Clyde's. People that would build a
- 18:53foundational platform for the belly group to go from
- 18:58Collegiate to belly to Elite. Because right now, what happens
- 19:03is like they end up being, you know, like, Raisins that dry up
- 19:06on the vine right, like they're hot coming out of college but
- 19:09not quite hot enough or they're not in quite hot enough of an
- 19:13event or they got hurt at the wrong time.
- 19:16And then the next two years, which we all know the first year
- 19:18out of college is the hardest. And the next year, if you don't
- 19:21have a shoe contract is literally make or break, though.
- 19:24If, if you haven't done something in the first two years
- 19:26after college, it's very difficult to continue doing I
- 19:30would like to drill down on that on that particular point a
- 19:34little bit about the rookie contracts and the despair
- 19:39despair in the gaps between, you know, the people that deserve
- 19:42and people haven't heard them yet.
- 19:44Isn't part of the problem. That ultimately, the companies
- 19:49that are signing these contracts are playing a very Sinister game
- 19:52of, you know, it's Sinister guesswork from where I sit.
- 19:58It's you know what? I'm going to bet on the age
- 20:02rather than what we know to be true because we all understand
- 20:06there are support my TV, most Cutthroat, when it comes to what
- 20:10have you done for me lately Sports and it's because the
- 20:12Olympics Cycles control the contracts and the Olympics ain't
- 20:15but four years apart. So it's like, yeah, you did
- 20:18this, you know, at the last Olympics but we need to know
- 20:21what's going to happen for years ago.
- 20:22And usually the companies are taking the bet it and if you're
- 20:2728 or years from now, I'd rather put my money.
- 20:30Money on the 19, you know, I mean like I think that's part of
- 20:34the bad equation. If I could make it very Sinister
- 20:38bet. But I think the biggest problem
- 20:41you have is they're making bet on people that have never been
- 20:44in the competitive fire, you know?
- 20:47And so you take an athlete that wins the NCAA Championship.
- 20:50Is there even participate in our USA championships and because
- 20:54they were in really fast against people that weren't nearly as
- 20:57fast as they were. You do much money am.
- 21:00And I've always said this, we know you run 98 and second
- 21:02places, 99 hired or 1000 different story when you run a
- 21:0698 against 98 because then you're not 8 because you're not
- 21:09used to that level. Petition, you're going to
- 21:11antenna. And then now you gotta shoot
- 21:13couple of wasted a bunch of money and I think that you
- 21:16better served at, you know, we all talk about this to you.
- 21:19Usually the average you talk on times, so you go in and you can
- 21:23de done, you know, you run some very fast time that's two tenths
- 21:27faster you were running your life.
- 21:29Let me see. Missy, you do that again.
- 21:31Before I give you this big chunk of money, let me see, you do it
- 21:33against the people that are running, just as fast as you.
- 21:35That's what I want to see, you know?
- 21:37I think that's the biggest problem.
- 21:38I think I was sleep. You know, the more doesn't like
- 21:41the thought of a rookie captain. There has to be something done
- 21:44to say, you know, we gotta stop giving peanut because it's a lot
- 21:48of money to get spent on athletes such as never before
- 21:50Mulligan, losers. Would you like, would you say
- 21:53that that reality is equal or in the same ballpark, as the
- 21:59previous discussion? We were just having the
- 22:02companies are trying to keep up with the Joneses, the Russian I
- 22:05want to buy up all the rookie Talent holding two of them pop
- 22:09because at the end of the day, we still got our money.
- 22:12EE. And we can always just cut them,
- 22:14who on to the next thing. See, and you have the super
- 22:16classes of people that make it, you know, obviously rye and
- 22:19Sidwell goodbyes, you know. But you know they're also not in
- 22:24the Sprint events, you know, they're in there longer events.
- 22:26We were, you know, it's not quite as intense.
- 22:29Let's say, but you know there's also a bunch of people out there
- 22:32that have been given a bunch of money that we never hear from
- 22:34him. And that's, that's a problem.
- 22:36I think that you're absolutely right, you know?
- 22:38You look at some of the young offenders that were decided
- 22:41earlier this year. Yeah, one of them wouldn't have
- 22:47won the NCAA championships this year.
- 22:52I mean, and I think it's just funny to me, like, how sometimes
- 22:56people just aren't paying attention to, what else is out
- 22:58there? Like, look are, he's married is
- 23:00a world record holder, but when Terry signed his contract, he
- 23:03was grossly overpaid. He didn't, he didn't own that
- 23:06contract to like six or seven years into it.
- 23:09I said it, it's true. I love the man but it's just
- 23:11it's true right now and the pro hurdlers and the pros at the
- 23:17time, took it out on him for you.
- 23:21But now look at last year's class.
- 23:23Well I guess it's this year's class.
- 23:25Right? Look, whatever money.
- 23:27You throw a grant or Daniel is good money because if you look
- 23:31at the landscape, like you're paying for two guys at their
- 23:34times, put them in the final. Right?
- 23:37And they've run, he was evil. That's, that's that's no that
- 23:40doesn't work. Because the people that you pay
- 23:42for that their times we we talk about 1075 that makes them the
- 23:46champion. All right there and I don't know
- 23:49if you take grants top five and you take Daniel stop.
- 23:51I have an average. It hit me.
- 23:53That's not what you said. See you.
- 23:56Sorry sir. I'm on the same page as you
- 23:59their average and I'm just making sure because you know you
- 24:01will go off on your own book. Every now and it is sounded like
- 24:04he went BR it did this happen like this you look like you're
- 24:12gonna need it. The average, the average of
- 24:15those two dudes. That's a smart buy today.
- 24:19All right? But if you took, it can cause
- 24:20you took him if you took are Ruiz is top five.
- 24:23That's not six hundred thousand dollars a year.
- 24:25No chance welcome. But it but realistically is it,
- 24:29you know, I'm not trying to dog anybody.
- 24:31There's nobody that came out. This were six hundred thousand
- 24:33dollars because they haven't done anything, that's my point.
- 24:38You know? I'm glad you look.
- 24:39I'm not hating on me, but I'm glad you got a good contract but
- 24:42it's killing the rest of the sport.
- 24:45And then addition companies until they're battling over
- 24:47people that aren't battle-tested.
- 24:49We're let me, let me ask you all this.
- 24:51Would you? He'll different cause I think we
- 24:52all agree on them for lack of a better term.
- 24:56Rookie cap in some kind of way, would we feel differently about
- 24:59it? If the reality was, if the
- 25:03reality was not that in order to pay these youngins?
- 25:07We know that's with metals are being taken off the books.
- 25:12I think that's a part of it, right?
- 25:15See that? See Mommy, I don't feel
- 25:16different. I mean, I think, okay, even even
- 25:18if even if the vet are still getting taken care of, which it
- 25:21might be, This is I'm not, it's not my company was my company.
- 25:24I'm gonna take care of people to take care of me.
- 25:25Okay, I'm not gonna push, you pull out the door that have done
- 25:28well for me, but at the end of the day, I'm also not gonna
- 25:31overpay people, okay? Because I think they might get a
- 25:37medal. I think they might perform well
- 25:40over time. No, these this is, it's just
- 25:43very risky, very risky. I mean, again, I think that if
- 25:48the sports bettor is there is some kind of a rookie camp.
- 25:51At. So you can pay the veterans and
- 25:54then they don't get pushed out because, you know, you get, they
- 25:55get older, they have a bad year. Oh you're done.
- 25:58I'm not, I'm not redoing, I'll cut you back.
- 26:00You know, that is not my opinion that shouldn't happen between us
- 26:02discuss. These are some of the Stars just
- 26:04happened to. I mean, I think to lucious is
- 26:07point, like it again, if I'm running the shoe companies, I
- 26:10paid salaries that make sense, and I set up ridiculous bonus
- 26:15structures, because at the end of the day, like, hey, you
- 26:17earned that, if you can kill me a water buffalo, I'll pay for
- 26:20that. You know what I mean?
- 26:22But I'm not I don't want to pay you because I think you can go
- 26:25kill the water buffalo. You know what I mean?
- 26:27I don't want to pay you because I think you're a good Hunter.
- 26:29I want to pay you because you came back out of the woods with
- 26:32that was a better analogy. Don't your water buffalo things.
- 26:35A little bit water. Buffalo was big, man, that is
- 26:38huge in the juice, that's why yeah, definitely.
- 26:43Yeah. Talking about top tier, and, you
- 26:47know, those competing for those top positions looking into the
- 26:51The Olympics 2021. Now, who are some of the top
- 26:54rivalries that we're looking forward to seeing who are going
- 26:57to watch fight it out that it out.
- 27:00Alright, the Birdman is, he's ready.
- 27:02Let's let's look at it, go. Let it go.
- 27:06You know what? Oh wow, I am without question.
- 27:15Looking forward to the two Young Guns in the hurdles because I do
- 27:19believe that they're both going to make the team.
- 27:21I do believe. That both going to make the
- 27:22final and I do believe it's going to be a bloodbath all the
- 27:25way to the Finish somebody's falling and at the finish line
- 27:28with blood all over their chest and to look I think that the
- 27:33men's 400 hurdles as I'm not going to take.
- 27:37I know Chuck wants to win this for hurdle.
- 27:38So I'm going to the men's going to hurdles, he's going to be
- 27:43ridiculous. I think if I think if Samba and
- 27:49and We're home, Samba and War home, show up, ready and and and
- 27:56prepared and John Wick shows up with his dog.
- 27:59Like, it's going to be a fight to the end and at some point in
- 28:04time, some announcers going to call the wrong person, winning
- 28:08that race. Like I think it's going to do
- 28:10one of these numbers down the stretch and I am here for it.
- 28:14I'm popping popcorn to watch that, okay?
- 28:19He's going to use the good butter that day.
- 28:21Absolutely. What you got.
- 28:25Glad first of all, what I have is a slap upside.
- 28:29The head of mr. Marr there because he tried to
- 28:32play me. I did as if he didn't already
- 28:35know that the man's form of hurdles is by far.
- 28:39Yes, only if you tell me, where's one event that I want to
- 28:42watch next year. It's the men's 400 hurdles and
- 28:45he knows this. Absolutely and that's cute and
- 28:50well played sir, but no listen to It's the men's 400 hurdles.
- 28:54It's not to me it's not even if as far as excitement goes, as
- 28:59far as the war that I want to see and the little nuances that
- 29:04come along with it to me it's like a boxing match because we
- 29:08all know Styles make fights. And what Rai Benjamin is capable
- 29:14of doing and the different tools that he can bring to that race
- 29:17versus what war home wants to do versus what Samba, no one really
- 29:21knows what sambas thing is like, Like round well right and you
- 29:28couldn't honestly you could throw in some other people into
- 29:30their as the wild-card to. Like there's like legitimately
- 29:33to me there's four or five dudes that can come up with a metal
- 29:36but it's clearly those three. And to me, I just want to see it
- 29:41play out because I think stylistically I think from a
- 29:44competitive standpoint, I think you can be epic at a level of
- 29:48performance that we just really haven't seen.
- 29:50And I still hold to the case that if ride does.
- 29:53What He is capable of doing rise.
- 29:56The one in that makes the can run 45 seconds.
- 30:00I believe that boy can run 45 seconds.
- 30:02I don't think the others can, they're not fast enough, but he
- 30:06can, but in order to run that race, that way, he's going to
- 30:09have to commit to things that would blow most people's minds.
- 30:14And so to me that's the most exciting field and then of
- 30:17course from a purely American side, I don't care what year it
- 30:22is. The women's 100 meter hurdles
- 30:24are always a bloodbath. You have no idea who's gonna
- 30:27make that team. There's No way you could ever
- 30:30predict that and we have too many just fabulous talents in
- 30:34that event and at the reality of that event, is there going to be
- 30:38four or five women left home? That could easily sweep medal
- 30:41count. So, that's always a favorite for
- 30:44me to watch. I don't care if I'm, if I have a
- 30:46dog in that fight or not, I love watching that.
- 30:53And I'm a big fan of them in Florida hurdles but I'm really
- 30:58excited. I want to see the women's 400 I
- 31:01think after what Nasser did this year?
- 31:05No one lance and Sean a. I think that there's a there's a
- 31:09big comeback plan, you know, I think that that think that's
- 31:12going to be a big battle. I think the men's hundreds going
- 31:14to be freaking fantastic. I do, you know, I just I just
- 31:19think that would calm and Baker and wild was talking about
- 31:23running it. I just think it's his think it's
- 31:25gonna get hot and there's somebody's gonna show up, you
- 31:27know, I was going to say isn't Dragon Ball Z doing the double.
- 31:30Yeah, exactly. You know.
- 31:31So obviously I've got it, I've got some steak in the misfired
- 31:35race and I do agree, it's going to be quite the bloodbath, you
- 31:39know. I think it's, you know, yet two
- 31:40great young competitors who were both hungry and I think that's
- 31:43going to be a phenomenal race. I think the women's 400 hurdles,
- 31:48it's time for 51 seconds, it will no doubt about that, but
- 31:52that's coming, you know what those two, I don't, I think the
- 31:56biggest thing is, if those two were helping ready to run, like
- 31:59who's gonna complain, it's just those
- 32:17I want to see the mint 400 be a great race.
- 32:19You know, I think, because I think the talent is there, you
- 32:22got to behave in. You got the Americans, you know,
- 32:24there's do you know, you got guys, like Ronnie James are just
- 32:27kind of floating around, you know, like let's make that race
- 32:31against like killer. I'd love to see that and they'll
- 32:38come out the middle of street and twelve Lanes.
- 32:40I said, you know what, let me, let me answer that at least for
- 32:45me. 400. Isn't as sexy unless waived van
- 32:50niekerk is back and ready to run because I don't care.
- 32:54Whoever wins whoever, regardless of what they run, if that dude
- 32:58isn't in the on the track in the final, I'm going to be the
- 33:02person be like yeah. But what about now Steven breaks
- 33:05the world record waiting, got to be at that, makes it sexy.
- 33:09Well, that's fine, that's someone's running, 40 to 90
- 33:17then. Not yet, you know that's
- 33:20actually yeah. And and let me add this not
- 33:23because of the spectacular Earnest of it but because of the
- 33:28just at least from the American perspective, I'm I'm really
- 33:32waiting to watch the women's hundred meter dash at the
- 33:35Olympic trials, for the total opposite of the women's hurdles,
- 33:40where we have four or five women who are going to be left home,
- 33:43that should be medalist in the women's hundred who's the team.
- 33:48We have no like there's no discernible threat coming out of
- 33:51America right now and 100 meter dash.
- 33:53Not right now, not right now. And is anyone going to challenge
- 33:57the Jamaicans? We have no idea.
- 34:00I couldn't tell you who's afraid of, who is a favorite to make
- 34:02that team. It's the most wide open as far
- 34:05as an American Sprint I've ever seen men side.
- 34:08We have three or four guys that we know are going to be the mix
- 34:11to make the team the women. I've no idea.
- 34:14That that would be hard to argue, you know, but you know
- 34:17it's it's the United States is the Olympic year.
- 34:21The they'll be some tips. I wasn't in a Shore.
- 34:24Yeah but what I don't know and nobody knows.
- 34:44There's somebody out in California somewhere.
- 34:46No, no, I'm girl, Smitty, jeez. Probably got something.
- 34:49I personally know, I know you got a young lady that you work
- 34:52with that. Think she can make that team as
- 34:53well. So, and she's the only one that
- 34:56has room 10-8. So at the big stage, I think
- 35:00that I agree that you can't pick a favorite.
- 35:04You can't pick the team right now, but I also like I said,
- 35:08it's the United States is the Olympic trials, they're going to
- 35:10show up and it's going to be hot and it's going to be fun.
- 35:14I know if they have the Olympic Final on the turn, I know who's
- 35:17going to win. They don't have that.
- 35:22So we don't have to go with what we got.
- 35:55The greatest of all time because he got everything else.
- 36:01Okay, so if we're going to take a focused attention on to the
- 36:05field and we should we often neglect the field, we all
- 36:08understand that. Shame on us.
- 36:11Shame on us. No, let me, let me say, let me
- 36:29say that. Unequivocally unequivocal The
- 36:31greatest competition I've ever seen and I wasn't there in
- 36:35purpose in person the greatest competition I ever saw was the
- 36:39Doha shot. Put men yeah.
- 36:42You talking about everybody's healthy, everybody's ready to
- 36:45go. That right there is an
- 36:47incredible. Incredible group of people that
- 36:50I would pay any amount of money to watch compete, the ministry
- 36:54years of training, just think about that.
- 36:56It's about shot footage with an extra year to lift.
- 36:59Hey, listen, it was, it was Phenomenal.
- 37:02The drama of it. The back-and-forth that was
- 37:05fantastic. And that, that's a hell of a
- 37:07group and I would pay whatever to watch that for sure.
- 37:12Nice. I like those highlights that
- 37:14that that close out of highlights will keep everybody
- 37:17on their seats and that in their seats and walk.
- 37:19It would you fight off colds? So I have a question.
- 37:25So who are some athletes that you guys would like to see
- 37:29overcome injury overcome age or whatever it is and get back to
- 37:33the big stage and show the potential that you think that
- 37:36they did? You think they have Mmm.
- 37:43Tiana. See.
- 37:45That's sweet yet. No that's looking at that.
- 37:47I mean that's easy and it is it is too easy.
- 37:51You know what man that's my spirit.
- 37:53See if you ask the question, Okay.
- 38:15Wilson hasn't missed anything that so that it get you said
- 38:18come back from things. I know not everybody knows what
- 38:20he's coming back from but yeah I see touche Touche on the women's
- 38:26side. If I'm going to stay in the
- 38:28field, my personal investment in it.
- 38:32Aside, the women's long jump isn't as good if T and Brittany
- 38:40aren't ready to go. Now the mahom bow has jumped
- 38:437:30. I would love to watch Tiana and
- 38:47Brittany at their best battling. The person who's sitting right
- 38:52now with the world championship when neither one of them were in
- 38:54the final at seven at with a PR 7:30, that would be a fantastic
- 38:59thing to watch. And obviously I have, you know,
- 39:02personal investment in that. But, you know, on the women's
- 39:05side, I'll on the track. Come back feeling.
- 39:10I mean, it's Easy to say Allison because we all know that she's
- 39:13trying to make this run but I don't know.
- 39:18I don't know. I mean, I'm not sure anybody
- 39:21does. Anybody think Alice is not going
- 39:22to come back, prepare to curb stomp people next year, but
- 39:26she's really good last year when she had a kid Get a whole year.
- 39:42Okay, so that's not good enough. No that's not good enough.
- 39:48The question is can a battle who I consider to be the righteous
- 39:53world record holder and Boop's the second best of all time,
- 39:56Shawn a Miller because that's where that event is right now.
- 39:59Take, take the, you know, the crazy Madness of the past that
- 40:03we all know was tainted out of the picture and you got the
- 40:06world record holder in the second best ever in their Prime
- 40:09right now. And she crack that because
- 40:12that's what everybody's waiting to see.
- 40:14No one cares if she's on the team and makes the final until
- 40:17finishing 6th or 7th, I mean, who cares like can I, you know,
- 40:21I'm Allison and Bobby, you know, you got two of the best ever to
- 40:25do it and if anybody can they will for me.
- 40:30I really want to see Marquis did to get back to being that guy.
- 40:33That that's my pretty. Obviously I'm not a personal
- 40:37stake because he's a gator. But I mean, I know his talent.
- 40:40I know he's had a lot of injuries.
- 40:42I'd love to see him, get back to where, you know, where I know he
- 40:46could be, you know, I'm personally pulling 40.
- 40:50That's my homegirl. I think that she's either of the
- 40:54pride of passion, she brings to the runway, she's right and
- 40:58Brittany's, right. That's It's a wonderful thing to
- 41:00watch. Yeah, I'm really love to see
- 41:02that he didn't and he's an interesting case for me because
- 41:05we all understand how Towns at that dude is.
- 41:08And unfortunately we've never got to.
- 41:11We never got to see him on those stages yet, right?
- 41:14I mean like that's dude like we're like oh my God if anybody
- 41:17can step in there and be the next person to legitimately
- 41:21threatened will and Clay, I always thought about it and just
- 41:25you know, too much bad luck you know something yeah.
- 41:29We I'd love to see that. Yeah, that Tina that that that's
- 41:32my big one right there. I'm really, really pulling for
- 41:34him. I mean I know this is odd
- 41:36because I do this person hasn't been injured but for whatever
- 41:38reason, like I would like to cij Wilson win.
- 41:44I mean, she just seems like she just seems like she has been
- 41:46nothing. But like elegant.
- 41:50She never says anything bad. She never does anything but that
- 41:52I've seen she had the one little meat scandal but like, you know
- 41:55I mean like she's it's just all. She's done is just show up and
- 41:59be classy. She lost last year and it was
- 42:01one of the most classy you know things I've ever seen someone
- 42:05do. And so I guess if I'm rooting
- 42:07for someone that I have no rooting interest in other than I
- 42:10just think she's pretty cool. Like I would love to see see her
- 42:12win. You know what?
- 42:17I just, I just thought of one. I just thought of one Cory
- 42:20Carter. I'd love to see Corey Carter
- 42:23returned to form because when she was right, when she won that
- 42:27world championship, a lot of people were blown away by it
- 42:31because she wasn't, you know, the favorite but she stepped up
- 42:34there and took that title didn't even call that.
- 42:37I mean I might have called it but I did I did.
- 42:51To be Petty, because in this context, there was no reason for
- 42:54me to be petted. I'm not being petty, I'm just
- 42:56giving you props, you told me. You thought she said, I
- 42:59appreciate that, but no and do. I think Corey Quran 51?
- 43:03I have no idea. But the third person in that mix
- 43:08between poori between Ashley between schmear little like,
- 43:12that's a really, really, really talented group of women.
- 43:16And, you know, again, there's going to be two metal,
- 43:18potentials that will be left at home from that group, but court
- 43:21I ain't been right. The last couple last few years
- 43:23and I'd like to see be in that mix competitive unless we need
- 43:27somebody to meet finals, the finals and we can see the Quarry
- 43:30car to warm up face again. Yeah, II think for me on the
- 43:34women's side I'd really like to see, Kyra, Jefferson.
- 43:37Get back to where I know she can be and obviously that's personal
- 43:39for me as well. And I just lost her name.
- 43:44All of a sudden that young lady the fell for Morgan, It's just
- 43:49even chemical agent. Stevens was, I just think she's
- 43:51phenomenal and I would love to see how he talk about a girl
- 43:55that won 11 0 and 1, 2200 and split 49.
- 43:59I mean, I'd love to see her get back.
- 44:02I'd love to see she came a wiggly.
- 44:04So I thought she was on a greatest Center to being to do
- 44:08to doing very well in the 400. I think people like that did
- 44:13this guy just think there's going to be some surprises next
- 44:15year and I'm excited to watch that.
- 44:17I'm excited to be a part of And just no.
- 44:19See, Lippi trials is in the cathedral.
- 44:22My man Clyde says, it's going to be great.
- 44:25It's gonna be great, you know, I do have I do have one more field
- 44:28of enter that I'm dead. That's that's coming back from
- 44:31injury that I'm definitely rooting for and that's because I
- 44:33think he's had an incredible career and incredible impact on
- 44:36his event are Canard. No, like I am really looking
- 44:41forward to him, being back and healthy and bouncing because
- 44:44look on that, dudes, talking to the bar and he's doing all the
- 44:47things he does. He is great for our sport bed
- 44:51and he is really talented. He's a lot of fun.
- 44:55And I mean, he'll, I mean, he do sponsored by air by Jordan,
- 44:59like, that's a big deal for our sport.
- 45:01You know what I mean? Like, yeah.
- 45:02And so like I do for, I do room for him because he's never done
- 45:07it anyway. But But the right way he's
- 45:10always been a gracious and humble young man.
- 45:13And again basically you know, in a quiet fashion just on, you
- 45:19know, when he's there, he does what he does and he entertains
- 45:21but other than that, you don't hear anything but good things
- 45:23out. Well, let's take it one notch
- 45:27further than that. Oh you got you know where we
- 45:34crowning the queen vote all time. 100 meters per hour.
- 45:43U.s. u.s. America.
- 45:45Let me give you the parameters of the state.
- 45:47Yeah. Come on.
- 45:47We're talking about u.s. limited and we're going to
- 45:51differentiate, we're going to do one to the Collegiate and one
- 45:53for the pros, so they can differ.
- 45:56Okay? So 100-meter goat USA,
- 46:02professional level Collegiate, level women, interested, I guess
- 46:10I haven't gone first yet, so, I guess I have to eat them.
- 46:14He had to pick your pick, your topic.
- 46:18Okay, well, on the professional side, I think, I think all of us
- 46:23and and whatever audience we trickle in with here, need some
- 46:28context. So, here's the list.
- 46:30Okay. Number 14 by time.
- 46:34The time list is global Joe jet. At Marion Jones, that's the top
- 46:42three English Gardener at number four, its shikari Richardson.
- 46:48At number five, Evelyn Ashford at number 6, Don swell at number
- 46:537 Torri Edwards. At number 8 Jana Bartolotta at
- 46:57number 9, and Tory Bowie is number 10, but understand eight,
- 47:02and nine and ten. All have the same PR 1078.
- 47:07So those are the top 10 women On the list.
- 47:11All-time hundred meters, if you're asking me.
- 47:16To me, anyone outside of that list is out of the conversation.
- 47:19So to me, if you're asking me to choose the goat from that list,
- 47:25man, it's a tough. Tough choice between Jet and
- 47:32between Evelyn Ashford. And for me, Given who she had to
- 47:39compete against in the era that she had to compete.
- 47:42I'm taking Evelyn Ashford That's my goat women's hundred meters
- 47:46for the u.s., I'll Circle back for the Collegiate.
- 47:50I'll go next. I'm gonna say that it's not
- 47:54somebody's even on the list. All right?
- 47:56Yeah, that's what might the go for me is guilty two-time
- 48:01Olympic champion. You just can't beat that.
- 48:04And, you know, she did this all while also doubling up on a
- 48:08pretty dadgum good and it hurts. But no, she was world champion
- 48:13and Olympic champion. She made I think for Olympic
- 48:16teams but the big thing is, she won the Olympics back-to-back.
- 48:21And so, when you're talking about the goat, he showed up
- 48:24when it counted the most on the biggest stage that there is in
- 48:27track and field and she want, yeah engine, she did it.
- 48:32She did it with Grace, did it with class.
- 48:34So girls might go to that level for the, for the USA Bravo.
- 48:38I knew one of you would do that Gail officially for those, that
- 48:41don't know, since number 12 on that list and what 80?
- 48:44To yep. Number 12, on our list of 10.
- 48:49So, you know, I guess, the problem for me is the only two
- 48:52contenders in my mind are AR Gael and Evelyn, and that's a
- 49:00tough one for me to separate them.
- 49:04Gail one twice, Evelyn was racing dudes.
- 49:07So it's, it is what it is. Look, it is, I mean, I'm not
- 49:14even That's not even a joke. She was radiant with my seduce
- 49:17to then. Come on now.
- 49:19No, no, no, wait. Look in the 75 us a check today.
- 49:23Hey, I'm checking the tape from the 70s and early 80's everyone
- 49:27was racing against females that were taking so much growth
- 49:31hormone and so many different combinations of steroids.
- 49:34They were not discernible as females anymore, but I'll say,
- 49:39so in my mind, basically, the way I pick is like it.
- 49:42Look, if those two raced each other, who wins first, All I'm
- 49:45definitely popping popcorn and sitting there watching every
- 49:47ounce of that. And I would love to see the add
- 49:49the announcer announced that Otto would be a great announcer
- 49:52for that race has even bring up. He would bring up some really
- 49:55good stuff, but I guess I just, I'd have to, I have to agree
- 50:00with lucious that, like, at the end of the day, I believe Evelyn
- 50:04would never lose to anybody, but Gail didn't write the end of the
- 50:08day, like, I kind of got to go with that, like, back-to-back
- 50:11Olympic champion like while she Bubbling, no less this seat and
- 50:17then, and now was tough for me because I'm a big Evelyn fan.
- 50:20We talked about Islam before I love it, but like it's hard
- 50:24back-to-back. I mean, it's just it, just makes
- 50:27it tough. Yeah, I agree.
- 50:29It would be a heck of a race girls jumping out.
- 50:31It was coming hard. The last 20 meters, there's a
- 50:33big lead at the line is, there always is with you.
- 50:36You know, you know and say I do we are going to get pushback.
- 51:00Okay, we're going to get, we're going to get pushed back from
- 51:03the How is Flo Jo not to go? We're going to get pushed back
- 51:08from the from the Marion Jones. Okay.
- 51:10So so who's gonna tell you? Okay.
- 51:15So now I'm gonna do the same thing we talked about.
- 51:19Here's look here is the world record already had a phenomenal
- 51:22year? Does that make him the greatest
- 51:24of all time? Is closure D.
- 51:26Fastest of all time. Absolutely.
- 51:29But when it comes to the gold conversation, I look more at the
- 51:32overall career type of thing and she didn't want to to Olympic
- 51:38100-meter titles. So that's your name.
- 51:41So push back. All you want.
- 51:43Just I would get pushback about the stuff.
- 51:44Hey, it's my opinion, you got yours and not just that like I
- 51:48think like I'm not sure be funny.
- 51:49I think the people we would get pushback from people who don't,
- 51:53you got to live a little bit and you got to see if you got to see
- 51:55all see the entire field before you can you can give an answer
- 51:58like that like Look Carl Lewis is not now.
- 52:00Nor has he ever been to world record holder in the long jump?
- 52:02And I don't think anybody including my power would ever
- 52:05argue. That car was a greatest long
- 52:07jumper of all time. so at the end of the day, like he just
- 52:11doesn't have the world record, you know, like no one will ever
- 52:16repeat. Flo-Jo see here like I don't
- 52:21think that's I don't think that's ever coming back.
- 52:23I don't think anybody's going to run and just curb stomp
- 52:26everybody. The way she did that year.
- 52:30But unfortunately, we did like we got a year of that 21-7 was
- 52:34second in the 2134 race. Nobody else.
- 52:37Nobody knows. It's not even in this picture
- 52:40frame. So don't get me wrong.
- 52:43I think, I think Florence was an incredible athlete.
- 52:46She did incredible things, she had a phenomenal year and more
- 52:49If nominal summer and she did some other good things along the
- 52:53way. But you know, for me for my go
- 52:56conversation, I'm going with Gail because she won
- 52:59back-to-back on a lot of details.
- 53:01Okay, so I guess I got a circle back around and go first with
- 53:04the Collegiate. Actually, the Collegiate isn't
- 53:06really difficult for me and I'm gonna go all the way Homer on
- 53:09that. I know what books, it's Angela
- 53:12Williams. I knew that was Angela Williams.
- 53:15Freshman wanted sophomore, wanted Junior, wanted senior
- 53:19wanted, and I'll remember many of those races.
- 53:21Being all that close, it's Angela Williams.
- 53:25And we're not gonna argue about this.
- 53:27One is Angela Williams and Right.
- 54:14Like we look, they've been a hole like that.
- 54:16Look, if you look at the national all-time list in the
- 54:19within the girls hundred, that is a Litany of.
- 54:23Wow, you were really good when you were 14 and 15 and 4 and she
- 54:27was, she was a monstar as a high school senior.
- 54:31And then got to the freshman year is like y'all just older
- 54:33than me beat all them and then it just got worse and then her
- 54:36senior year when she was a little bit off and everybody
- 54:41else was running out of their mind.
- 54:43There was people in the stands Betten and Angela was finally
- 54:46going to lose. And I was like I will take all
- 54:47of those tests every one of those bets because I'm like, I'm
- 54:51never betting against somebody who has beaten everybody all the
- 54:54time and when and then you know and she's also obviously another
- 54:59topic as far as lead off the Fallout 1 on the Collegiate
- 55:02level and close, that's Angela Williams but she ran by whoever
- 55:07was in front of her but I would say this This Danza Wells for
- 55:15senior year, There Was Not a Human Being Alive.
- 55:18There was ever going to be her Collegiate, write anything, but
- 55:22it was a year, but it was a year.
- 55:25Yeah. Right.
- 55:26And the bad part, that the thing that sucks is that we didn't get
- 55:29to see, like Phenom because the sport was different, then we
- 55:32didn't get to see phenomenal, professional careers out of
- 55:35either, one of them, but I think if they had come along now, we
- 55:38would have. Hmm.
- 55:40Oh, you know, like like Dawn would have got offered like
- 55:43sick. 100 grand out of college and she would have ran track as
- 55:46opposed to going to like live life.
- 55:48You know. And Angela would have got
- 55:50offered that kind of money and she would have ran track like as
- 55:53the pro and not going on to live life and it would come back
- 55:56later on. And when the rodent or temps in
- 55:58the 60s, he did. But you know what I'm saying?
- 56:01Like, well, I'm saying, we, I think we all would have loved to
- 56:05seen them, like, Peak them, their next three or four years
- 56:09as Pros. If we could have seen it because
- 56:11it would have been amazing. Yeah.
- 56:13A lot of people in, for me, you know, me and as aliens are
- 56:17roughly about the same age. So I got to watch this from age
- 56:22group all the way through. Yeah.
- 56:25Taketake the professional stuff out of it.
- 56:27If there was no protract, you make the case that Angie was the
- 56:31greatest partner ever. Yeah, they hated everything she
- 56:36had at one point. You look at one point, you look
- 56:39at the national a book, he had them all.
- 56:41Yes, my all of them. Is he was nuts, man.
- 56:45It was like, oh my gosh, you broke Angela Williams record,
- 56:49that's the knuth, right? Exactly.
- 56:50Yeah guy, I agree. I think that that's a people,
- 56:55like, I'm just kidding, but I loved I loved the way they
- 56:58handle the event. Um, I thought the young lady
- 57:02from Alabama. Can't think of her name right
- 57:04now. Few years back was the Jamaican,
- 57:07girl, she was, I thought her race model was really nice.
- 57:10I think Aleeah Hobbs was was nice too.
- 57:13Watch me, she really set it up well, she transitioned well, I
- 57:19think that the organ Girls when they were one prandini and that
- 57:23crew that they were fun to watch, there's a lot there's a
- 57:29lot of good ones out there. I mean, for me like just fun to
- 57:32watch, I mean, I know I'm a much older than Clyde but quit when
- 57:38towards in college and that Georgia uniform She was tough.
- 57:43What? Like look it's not it was not a
- 57:45technical video to watch but from a competitive standpoint
- 57:51what take shoes off running the streets, she's winning for sure
- 57:57like race. My wife was really tough, she
- 58:03was She was got it. Well, I went to turn the dial a
- 58:08little bit and we're going to address the elephant that's in
- 58:12all of our yards at this point. I know.
- 58:15Water buffalo. Exactly.
- 58:17There you go. What's the escort that bad boy
- 58:20in? Let's address, our current
- 58:24social climate, you know, there are a lot of things that are
- 58:28going on right now in our backyards, in our cities,
- 58:31specifically where everyone is located.
- 58:34You know, there are going to be some, there are a lot of
- 58:39emotions. Being felt, what are your
- 58:43thoughts, where your stances? You know, how are we feeling
- 58:46right about now I have had every wave of emotional possible over
- 58:52the last couple of weeks I've been mad, I've been pissed, I've
- 59:00teared up, I've been sick to my stomach.
- 59:04No, this is something that's been going on for far too long.
- 59:08I just don't and it's just it's just hard to even talk about but
- 59:13this is not a black problem, this is a societal problem.
- 59:17This is a problem that is only ever going to.
- 59:19Stop is only ever going to come to an end when people of all
- 59:23colors band together to make it stop, you know, it's a voting
- 59:28problem, it's a some voice problem, you know.
- 59:31It's a problem with was if you have if you You are Caucasian,
- 59:36you have Caucasian friends and you allow them to tell jokes
- 59:39about African-Americans to disparage other races.
- 59:41Then you're just as wrong as they are silenced.
- 59:44Simply means acceptance in this case and until we stand together
- 59:50it's not going to stop. I'm 60 years old and no.
- 59:54Do you like to believe that things have gotten better?
- 59:56And just when you think that they're a little better you wake
- 1:00:00up to the news that we've had over the last not just you know
- 1:00:03this last few weeks. Has been horrid and you realize
- 1:00:07nothing's really changed. His Will Smith said it's just
- 1:00:11being recorded. Oof.
- 1:00:25Very much like lucious. I think I have had every emotion
- 1:00:31in the last three or four days at that, my body will produce.
- 1:00:36I ain't no water. I have been fearful because I
- 1:00:41have two young black boys. I have been angry.
- 1:00:48I have been sorrowful, I have I've been just disillusion, like
- 1:00:57where do I live? And, and, and I've been asked,
- 1:01:04or forced to play educator, to, to some people.
- 1:01:08Some I didn't mind some, I was angry that I had to educate.
- 1:01:14I've had to defend, some things that should never have had to be
- 1:01:22defended and I think, for me, where we're at, at this point is
- 1:01:29just that I don't think that that that black people will take
- 1:01:37any further excuses meaning at this point in time.
- 1:01:41I think that the black people in America require everyone who was
- 1:01:45not black to pick a side, they're the silent majority.
- 1:01:50Like I've said this, the last three days The Silence has been
- 1:01:52definitely and the silent majority.
- 1:01:55No longer gets to sit back in the in the weeds and and respond
- 1:02:00to tweets and texts that are are safe.
- 1:02:03But then when issues real issues come up and you put out tweets
- 1:02:06or taxes. They are noticeably absent in
- 1:02:10your mansions. And I think we're most
- 1:02:13African-Americans are, and I'm not speaking for everyone, but
- 1:02:16this is just my what I think based on what I've seen.
- 1:02:19And what I've read most African-Americans are now at the
- 1:02:22point where They want everybody. They noted to take aside
- 1:02:26weigh-in as to where you're at and look where you are is where
- 1:02:30you are. I'm not going to feel good or
- 1:02:32bad about you, but I just need to know where you are.
- 1:02:34And I think that where we're at as a group is this as a people
- 1:02:39like we just can't deal with the silence anymore. you know, look,
- 1:02:43I'm looking at statistics and African Americans make up 13
- 1:02:48percent of the u.s. population and 40% which is the plurality
- 1:02:51of members in prison. that can only happen if your, Being
- 1:03:00targeted. Because because the numbers
- 1:03:03don't make any sense. There's no way that this should
- 1:03:08be more African-Americans in jail than there are Caucasians
- 1:03:11or anybody else because we don't make enough of we don't make up
- 1:03:14enough in the population for that to be true.
- 1:03:17And I think where it's been most poignant for me, and like, I had
- 1:03:21a very visceral and very, very good conversation with, with a
- 1:03:25white male cop friend of mine. And and I feel very, very
- 1:03:31adamant about this, the world changed for African Americans in
- 1:03:361992 because Cuz we knew that blacks had been being vilified
- 1:03:41by racist Caucasian cops for a long time but but we never had
- 1:03:45proof that they couldn't deny. And in 1992, we saw a black man
- 1:03:50get beat almost to death by seven races cops.
- 1:03:54And I think all of us thought. Well, now we're going to get
- 1:03:58some retribution because they can't get past this.
- 1:03:59It's on videotape and when those guys got acquitted.
- 1:04:05I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back in the
- 1:04:09African American Community as far as believe in the system and
- 1:04:13here it is. That was 92, this is 20/20.
- 1:04:16So 28 years later the exact same thing happened.
- 1:04:19Only this time worse, we watch a black man, get murdered on.
- 1:04:23On live television, in eight and a half minutes, slow death.
- 1:04:29And it took social media just to get the oppressors arrested. and
- 1:04:35so I think where we're at is just like the system is, it's
- 1:04:39not just broken, it needs to be like burnt and torn down and we
- 1:04:43need to have real live answers as to what what comes next
- 1:04:48because I don't think that we can tolerate any more like
- 1:04:52excuses or conversation about like, how we should have faith
- 1:04:56in the system because there's no reason to have faith in the
- 1:04:59system. Man, beautifully stated both of
- 1:05:06you guys and I agree with all of that.
- 1:05:10For me. I think, I think, as
- 1:05:14individuals, obviously, the three of us are very, very
- 1:05:19different. We are born into different
- 1:05:22families. We have different belief
- 1:05:23structures. We have different life
- 1:05:25experiences were different ages. We have different cultural,
- 1:05:27makeups. And for me, I think that all of
- 1:05:32us bring our own context, to how we react to these horrific
- 1:05:38times. For me, I have felt Like, I am
- 1:05:44watching and being saturated by ignorance.
- 1:05:49In all forms on all sides across the board.
- 1:05:55I am a product of a black man and an Italian woman and my
- 1:06:02entire life. I've been subject to having to
- 1:06:07have these battles on both sides of these issues and it's
- 1:06:12draining. It's ridiculous.
- 1:06:15And there's so much ignorance that comes with it.
- 1:06:19My little sister who I love. Who has two kids.
- 1:06:24I don't have any Calls me on this past Sunday and wants me to
- 1:06:30go downtown to up with to Oakland with her to participate
- 1:06:35in the protest. And I had to tell her, you know,
- 1:06:38I process my rage a lot different than, you know.
- 1:06:42Most people may expect me to, I'm not a protester.
- 1:06:46I'm not against protest, I think protest is amazing.
- 1:06:48I think civil unrest is needed and necessary.
- 1:06:53But I also think that in today's culture of quick answers and not
- 1:07:00a lot of study, I don't think that that there is much strategy
- 1:07:07behind the reaction to what we're witnessing.
- 1:07:11The protests of the Civil Rights Movement worked.
- 1:07:14Not because they were only protesting.
- 1:07:16But because there were people working in front of the scenes
- 1:07:20behind the scenes, they had strategy, they had a plan in
- 1:07:25place, and I feel like a lot of stuff that we're witnessing on
- 1:07:29the TV, people in the street. I think it's mostly based on the
- 1:07:33raw emotion of watching, that man, get murdered in the street
- 1:07:39and I understand the emotion, And I applaud people getting out
- 1:07:44there and letting their voices be heard.
- 1:07:46But I saw a beautiful tape on, I guess it was YouTube.
- 1:07:50I put it on my Facebook page. It was in Minnesota, if I'm not
- 1:07:54mistaken. And there was a man in his
- 1:07:58mid-40s a black man, and he was very, very, very upset to the
- 1:08:03point of screaming and tears and he was ready to burn the city
- 1:08:07down. And there was another gentleman
- 1:08:1031 was imploring him to think about what he was doing and
- 1:08:18about what the effects of this response we're going to be in
- 1:08:23the moment and in the future and in the middle of that
- 1:08:25conversation, the 31 year old man pulled a child over to them.
- 1:08:31Who was 16 and he tells the sixteen-year-old, he said look
- 1:08:35man this dude is hurt and pissed it. 45 I'm hurt and Pista. 31.
- 1:08:40I did this exact same shit. 34 years ago, when the last do was
- 1:08:45killed in the city, we have to find a better way and it can't
- 1:08:50just be the raw emotion of protest.
- 1:08:53It can't just be hashtags and half the people out there in the
- 1:08:58street, man, they're out there for the grand.
- 1:09:01They're out there for the grand black and white alike.
- 1:09:03They're out there for the gram, it's the sexy thing to do.
- 1:09:07Everybody's looking for their space to be recognized and show
- 1:09:10that they're down for the cause. And I want to know who's
- 1:09:12quitting real strategy, real thought behind how these things
- 1:09:17need to change because we've been doing a lot of the same
- 1:09:21stuff for a long time and we're still here.
- 1:09:25So for me, I'd rather Focus my energy and my responses on.
- 1:09:30I'm putting some critical thinking behind how it is that
- 1:09:36we as black people can better serve ourselves out of this
- 1:09:40problem and how they as white people can get in the fight in
- 1:09:45the way that they need to. Because the fact of the matter
- 1:09:47is the minorities cannot solve this problem because the problem
- 1:09:51is rooted in the majority, And it's not a hard problem to fix.
- 1:09:55We didn't create it. We didn't build structures are
- 1:09:59not possible for this man. So I'm happy to talk to my black
- 1:10:05friends and my black family members of my black colleagues
- 1:10:08about these issues of pain and suffering, and everything that
- 1:10:10we're doing. And then apparently, I'm also
- 1:10:14and a lot of us are also put in the position where we have to be
- 1:10:16the spokesperson in the, the linguistic experts for our white
- 1:10:22friends who don't. Really seem to get it.
- 1:10:24And I always start with well are you really trying to get it
- 1:10:27because it's just not that complicated.
- 1:10:29It's really not that complicated.
- 1:10:32So for me, you know, I'm a person who feels like you're not
- 1:10:37in the you're not in a position to come at the next person until
- 1:10:42you know, you're doing what you need to do.
- 1:10:45And so for me and mine I'm like look If you're 18 and up and
- 1:10:51you're black and you're upset, if you ain't registered to vote,
- 1:10:54you're going about this the wrong way, if you're not
- 1:10:57organizing people in your community, to take your anger
- 1:11:02out, not by burning the building, but by burning down
- 1:11:05the politicians that are in place.
- 1:11:06They're setting these laws, not at the presidential level.
- 1:11:09We all understand. We have no leadership at that
- 1:11:12level, but it's the local leadership that determines where
- 1:11:17your money gets spent. If you're mad about How much
- 1:11:19money the police have four tanks and armored vehicles, and all
- 1:11:22this other stuff that those just get made at the local level.
- 1:11:26So you have to be strategic in where you place your anger,
- 1:11:32where you place your vidyard and come up with, systematic plans,
- 1:11:36for systemic change. And like I said, for the, for
- 1:11:40the people, in our community, who are so upset that all they
- 1:11:44can see is red, all cops are bad.
- 1:11:47All white people are evil. That's not True.
- 1:11:49No, you know, I don't know that. That's true.
- 1:11:52That's not true because my mother's a white woman and she's
- 1:11:54not evil. Okay, I have family members who
- 1:11:58were police officers who work in government.
- 1:12:01All government officials are not bad and eat, not everybody's
- 1:12:04against us and we have to learn how to recognize our friends,
- 1:12:07recognize our allies and work together, work, collectively to
- 1:12:12get ourselves out of this mess. But at the end of the day, the
- 1:12:15one one big thing, I am imploring everybody who listens
- 1:12:18to me. Me on these subjects is this is
- 1:12:21not black people's problem to fix.
- 1:12:24We did not create this, we cannot fix it.
- 1:12:28We have to have our allies in the majority with who have the
- 1:12:34heart and the willingness to step this up and if they're not
- 1:12:37willing to do it, I don't really see how it gets done but it damn
- 1:12:42sure does not get done by standing in the street.
- 1:12:45It has to get done behind the scenes in the voting booth.
- 1:12:49Organization strategy? I totally agree Clyde and I
- 1:12:53think that, you know, our buddy George Williams, who we were
- 1:12:57taking the test for leaving him out of a conversation last week.
- 1:13:01Do you want to George's favorite things?
- 1:13:03As you can't know the play, if you're not in the Huddle.
- 1:13:06And this is a huddle, we have to all be in together, it just
- 1:13:08can't be black. That's another one.
- 1:13:10Just can't be wiped out. Everybody has to be the Huddle,
- 1:13:13we have to be running the same play.
- 1:13:15And my thing is, this is that this is not a problem, it's
- 1:13:17going to be fixed and Two days or two weeks, or two months.
- 1:13:21This is all this is Something's Gonna have to be in, for the
- 1:13:22long haul, you know? And I'm, I, I'm employing
- 1:13:25people, we need to stand together, don't stand behind me.
- 1:13:28No stand beside me fight with me.
- 1:13:32How did you two fight with me today?
- 1:13:33Tomorrow, two years from now, 10 years, from now, 20 years from
- 1:13:37now because let's fight is good. It didn't to it's just not going
- 1:13:42to go away, you know, you know, my cousin posted something, he
- 1:13:46talked to his mom who was 89 years old.
- 1:13:49He was telling her what was going on and her thing was, you
- 1:13:52know, we have been being disrespected sister.
- 1:13:54Took us out of the holes of the ship's back when we were slaves.
- 1:13:57That's right. Yeah, that's very prophetic.
- 1:14:00Yeah. That's that's my uh, that's
- 1:14:02that's that makes you my cousin. You know what to that point?
- 1:14:05I'm glad you. I'm glad you pointed out by
- 1:14:07towards because one is one of my favorite things that he says,
- 1:14:10and he says it off. But it's apropos right now
- 1:14:14because people need to understand that there are plays
- 1:14:18of Foot. We are so easily manipulated by
- 1:14:23nonsense, like it's easy to complain about the drama and and
- 1:14:30in the, the sideshow that's coming out of Washington DC.
- 1:14:35But you gotta understand that man is many many things, he
- 1:14:38ain't stupid, he knows what's going.
- 1:14:42And if we continue to dance to those kind of strings, we're
- 1:14:46going to fall right back into the Trap of fall.
- 1:14:49It's equivalency of it's all the same of, there's no difference
- 1:14:54in who it all matters. It all matters every little
- 1:14:59piece of this has to be strategic and it man.
- 1:15:02It's complicated like people that know, best people that know
- 1:15:06me best, like I said, Mother's white, my mother's side of the
- 1:15:09family that time, my mother is an ally, my grandmother was an
- 1:15:12ally. My grandfather was absolutely,
- 1:15:14not my grandfather was a racist bigot.
- 1:15:16He hated the fact that his grandchildren were half Gutter
- 1:15:19People a quote from him. Now loves me supported me helped
- 1:15:25raise me. But I knew that it discusses him
- 1:15:29and I knew that as a very young child.
- 1:15:32So there's a lot of nuance to all of this families are tough.
- 1:15:35Communities are tough, and it's in no one's going to be able to
- 1:15:38run to their corners and fix this.
- 1:15:41It doesn't work that way. It's never going to work that
- 1:15:44way. So if there's not A way to do
- 1:15:46this in unison with our allies. Like anything, if we don't get
- 1:15:54what we don't know. If we do not unite as a people
- 1:15:57as a society, then my great-great grandchild will be
- 1:16:02dealing with the same problem. Absolutely.
- 1:16:05That's a fact I would say that I don't think anybody necessarily
- 1:16:10has all the answers but If you go on Twitter and you look up,
- 1:16:16Emmanuel acho is a nine minute video that I posted my pages.
- 1:16:21Real reposted I guess called dear white people.
- 1:16:25It's the first episode and they will be many others and it's the
- 1:16:29best and most enlightening nine minutes That that you can watch,
- 1:16:37if you are not black and want to understand where black people
- 1:16:42are, it's done eloquently. It is not done in Rage it, and
- 1:16:48if you watch that nine minutes, I promise you, you'll never ask.
- 1:16:52What can I do? What should I do?
- 1:16:55You'll never ask those questions because you will have a real
- 1:16:58simple explanation and your marching orders.
- 1:17:01So I would challenge everybody who Has the show who is not
- 1:17:05black. Go on Twitter.
- 1:17:07Look up a manual acho. Look up.
- 1:17:10Dear white people, it's nine minutes I think in 20 seconds
- 1:17:14and then reposted Because you'll get it and not just that you if
- 1:17:22you repost it, none of your other non black friends will ask
- 1:17:26you why you posted it, because there's no ambiguity to it.
- 1:17:29It's not racist, racist, racist. You know, it's not racist,
- 1:17:33charged. It's not out of anger, it's an
- 1:17:36educational piece as to look, here's the facts, here's why we
- 1:17:41are the way we are. And it and the we is a broadly,
- 1:17:45because if you just look at this show, 3 different black man on
- 1:17:49this show and although we are great friends.
- 1:17:52Clearly we are very different and then, secondly, you going to
- 1:17:56leave Big League out of the conversation.
- 1:17:57No, no, I was just leaving this. I was going to say, send them
- 1:18:00get to it. He's just started with her.
- 1:18:01Come on now, ladies, 40 because I wanted to finish with her
- 1:18:04because secondly what I wanted to say is there's by no means
- 1:18:08any chance that we are going to have this conversation and not
- 1:18:11let the double minority that is on this show.
- 1:18:15Speak because look, you do a great job of managing our
- 1:18:19personalities and such and I think a lot of people miss miss
- 1:18:22Reed and importance to this show.
- 1:18:25Well they're about to get it. So the floor is yours and I
- 1:18:29think you should let the world know who you really are and what
- 1:18:32you stand for Big League because I want her to close I wanted
- 1:18:39Chris just gave something. I've seen that, what he's
- 1:18:41talking about is fantastic. Everyone absolutely to do that
- 1:18:45on the opposite side of that. If you are a minority,
- 1:18:49especially a African American in this country and you are on the
- 1:18:53page of voting doesn't matter. And it's all, you know, for show
- 1:18:59you should all you should get on Netflix and watch the
- 1:19:02documentary called the Great hack.
- 1:19:05And understand just how deep Just how thorough, just how
- 1:19:11precise certain people are willing to go to make sure that
- 1:19:15you don't vote or to make sure that your behavior is modified
- 1:19:19to make sure that they are tricking you into manipulation.
- 1:19:25If you think, if you think it's not important, people wouldn't
- 1:19:28be spending billions of billions of dollars, to make sure you
- 1:19:30don't vote. So you go watch the great hack
- 1:19:34and I will leave it, it missed well.
- 1:19:38Round that out, you know, I am a product of that.
- 1:19:40I'm a product of my vote, didn't matter because I that's what I
- 1:19:44thought. That's what I was brainwashed to
- 1:19:46believe in. I'm going to be brutally honest
- 1:19:49against myself. When I voted on Tuesday, that
- 1:19:53was the first time, first time ever, I'm 40 years old.
- 1:19:58And because I didn't think it mattered and especially coming
- 1:20:00from California, one of the billion that live in a small
- 1:20:02state are not small by he needs, but and a and isolated State.
- 1:20:07I was led to believe, even in my government class, that it wasn't
- 1:20:10going to make a difference. And that's where I should have
- 1:20:12learned that he did make a difference, you know, and it
- 1:20:15took having friends make me listen to what it meant, you
- 1:20:21know, and it's like okay you know, and having biracial
- 1:20:26children, you know. I do have to fight even more
- 1:20:30because they're not going to understand.
- 1:20:32And I had a very difficult conversation with my daughter
- 1:20:35this morning. And, you know, she she's very
- 1:20:38innocent, you know, and she's been privileged enough to not
- 1:20:42have to be exposed to a lot of things that many of us were
- 1:20:45exposed to as at as a young child and She said, well, why
- 1:20:53doesn't everybody just stand in solidarity?
- 1:20:57That's a great question, you know?
- 1:21:00And she asked, you said, you know, I am, she understands
- 1:21:04what's going on currently and where we stand currently in
- 1:21:06regards to race. But she said, mom did Asians
- 1:21:10ever get discriminated. You know, work was an Asian ever
- 1:21:13killed because of the way they looked.
- 1:21:15I said absolutely. I said, there's a lot of things
- 1:21:17that go on, said, I said. But right now, the focus is that
- 1:21:20it's everyone versus the racist. you know, and it's she only
- 1:21:28heard because this is what she's seeing the whites and the
- 1:21:33blacks. And I said that it's not that
- 1:21:35because in some places, it's the blacks against the blacks and
- 1:21:38whites the whites against the rights.
- 1:21:40I said, so it's bigger than that.
- 1:21:41It to everyone against racist. And, you know, I just stand
- 1:21:45where I see the opportunities to quote unquote, educate our
- 1:21:49friends in those around us as Fellowship, you know, it's we
- 1:21:53spread so much good news when it's great to spread, but when
- 1:21:57it's bad news, we don't like to talk about it.
- 1:22:00And it's not my job to educate. It's not your job to educate,
- 1:22:03but it's your job to expose as a human being, as a contributing
- 1:22:07Society. We have to expose each other to
- 1:22:10our experiences, whether they be negative or positive.
- 1:22:14And so it's, it's hard, it's hard to know that a lot of my
- 1:22:20friends regardless of shade know, regardless of hue are
- 1:22:23affected by something that isn't going to stop.
- 1:22:28We're not going to see the end of it.
- 1:22:30It's not going to end in our lifetimes and it's scary to
- 1:22:33think that because we are almost, we are instant
- 1:22:36gratification. You know, we can't switch
- 1:22:38accounts to make something to go away.
- 1:22:40This isn't going to happen that way, you know, so it's it's
- 1:22:44unreal, it really is and you know having having this pick a
- 1:22:51scab of mine when I was a kid. I can't I can't empathize.
- 1:22:58I know it felt like for me, but it does.
- 1:23:01I was never be, you know, because of it is like I was
- 1:23:04definitely fought against and pushed away and you know,
- 1:23:08whatever it may be, but I can't because I said I won't ever
- 1:23:13because it's different, so all I can do is support be there.
- 1:23:17Help spread the good and hopefully, you know, be that one
- 1:23:22person of change that Arts that ripple effect in the water.
- 1:23:26And we can hopefully see some of this wash away but not anytime
- 1:23:31soon. May I say one thing before we
- 1:23:34close. Absolutely.
- 1:23:36Over the last five months, we have seen this incredible effort
- 1:23:41to stop the spread of this awful virus.
- 1:23:45I was just like to see that same effort to stop this.
- 1:23:49Awful Trend that's been going on for 400 years that same energy
- 1:23:53same and give me that same energy.
- 1:23:55Yeah. And and it might go away In Our
- 1:23:57Lifetime, well, Everybody needs to breathe.
- 1:24:07Just take a breath and exhale, gentlemen.
- 1:24:10As always, thank you so much for your contributions and our
