- 0:08This is your pit stop for all things Formula One, from breaking
- 0:12headlines and race recaps to insider analysis and paddock buzz.
- 0:16Whether you're a diehard Tifoso, a Red Bull loyalist, or just love the
- 0:20thrill of wheel-to-wheel racing, we've got you covered with up-to-date
- 0:23F1 news delivered at full throttle.
- 0:25Strap in, because the lights are out and we're underway.
- 0:28This is Formula Fanatics.
- 0:40Brad, you didn't do any homework this month for Formula 1.
- 0:44What, what, what gives, man?
- 0:45You, you made us a promise that you were gonna have it all summarized and we could
- 0:49cut this episode down to about 10 minutes.
- 0:51There were some races, some people won, some people lost.
- 0:54Lance Stroll didn't finish any of them, so we're good to go.
- 0:58Done.
- 0:58Boom.
- 0:59That's the episode.
- 1:00You brought up Lance Stroll.
- 1:02I just want to say, this is the funniest stuff.
- 1:06Apparent- I don't… Did this happen?
- 1:08It said here the, the bullet that came through, the late breaking
- 1:11news, was that if he got one more Q1 elimination, Lance Stroll would become
- 1:16the first person in Formula 1 history to be knocked out of Q1 100 times.
- 1:22You know, is that the only record he holds?
- 1:25Uh, he holds other similar records to this one.
- 1:28Oh, okay.
- 1:29Perfect.
- 1:29He did not finish the last three races.
- 1:31So he is a succubus.
- 1:35But it's the car's fault.
- 1:36Oh, 1000%.
- 1:37Yeah, it's never Lance's fault.
- 1:39Which actually, he hasn't been crashy, so it hasn't been because of that.
- 1:43He hasn't been crashy.
- 1:45Neither have I. No, that's true.
- 1:48That's true.
- 1:48That's true.
- 1:50That's true.
- 1:50He hasn't been.
- 1:50You're really setting the bar high there.
- 1:52Yeah, right.
- 1:54Well, I do want to follow up from something from last month.
- 1:56We ta- We did a little bit of silly season coverage, and we were
- 1:59questioning is Leclerc gonna be at Ferrari basically until he's an
- 2:04old man, and it sounds like yes.
- 2:07And if you read this article, basically he says that he
- 2:10stayed there because of Vasseur.
- 2:13It's all about Fred, Fred's leadership, Fred's vision.
- 2:17Charles is there because of Fred.
- 2:18That's why he's staying.
- 2:20Charles is there because he's got nowhere else to go and they're paying him.
- 2:24Thank you.
- 2:24That's the real answer.
- 2:27100%, that's the real answer.
- 2:29Get- Well, if, if you think about it, he's also got a lot
- 2:31more years left than Lewis does.
- 2:34Are you finally admitting that?
- 2:36Well, I've, I've never not admitted that.
- 2:38Okay.
- 2:39Since we went there, because I was gonna save it for later, are
- 2:42you willing to concede at this point that Hamilton doesn't stand
- 2:44a chance of winning this year?
- 2:46Yes, I will concede, I don't think Hamilton… It is very, it is
- 2:50very highly unlikely that he will win the championship this year.
- 2:55But that wasn't part of my original question when I started asking this.
- 2:59My original question was, who gets their championship,
- 3:02their next championship first?
- 3:05Kimi.
- 3:06Lewis or Verstappen?
- 3:07Kimi.
- 3:08The answer is Kimi.
- 3:10That's, that, that's not the question.
- 3:11Yeah, it is.
- 3:12You said, "Who gets it first?" You're answering a question that I didn't ask.
- 3:16Neither of them.
- 3:16No, no, no.
- 3:17Who… Listen to the words.
- 3:20Are you listening to the words that are coming out of my mouth?
- 3:23The question is, of the two drivers, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton,
- 3:29who wins their next championship?
- 3:32Hold on.
- 3:32Let me think about that for a second.
- 3:34First, before the other guy.
- 3:37Tanya, before you answer I'm gonna have to say Kimmy
- 3:46And I'm gonna have to say you need to start comparing apples and apples
- 3:49when you compare new, new cars to, and their underpowered power
- 3:53plants to 25-year-old Volkswagens.
- 3:57In, in all honesty, Tanya, hopefully you agree with this, I think there's
- 4:02a higher probability that Max wins his fifth than Lewis wins his eighth.
- 4:09I can see that.
- 4:10Probably.
- 4:11I mean, I, I think if all cars were equal, truly equal Would it be Max?
- 4:19The answer's still team.
- 4:20I think so, given he's, he's younger.
- 4:22Glad you're starting to come around on this Hamilton thing's not working out.
- 4:25But, you know, hey, whatever.
- 4:27He's not there for Fred.
- 4:28N- what do you mean not working out?
- 4:30I mean, he's doing better than anybody on the Audi teams.
- 4:33I mean- He- he's in third in the standings, as long as- Yeah,
- 4:36he- … McLaren doesn't catch up.
- 4:38We call it a comeback, don't call it a comeback.
- 4:40For a comeback, you know, season, I think he's doing pretty damn well.
- 4:45Yes.
- 4:46I mean, I think he's still getting a little bit shafted with strategy.
- 4:51I mean, that's apparent, yes.
- 4:53Right?
- 4:54Like, he's had some unfortunate position losses because of seemingly bad strategy
- 4:59calls, so, 'cause he was second in the points, and now he's trailing.
- 5:04He's always one tire change away from losing a race every time.
- 5:09That's not his fault.
- 5:10He's not the one changing his own tires.
- 5:13He's not the one… I mean, he's, he's being told when to box, right?
- 5:18He's not just pulling into the pits.
- 5:20Do they have to come in when they're told to box?
- 5:23Why can't they stay out?
- 5:24Like, that one race where they boxed him, like, two laps from the end, it
- 5:28was the first Spanish GP, where it was like, "If we put you on the softs,
- 5:32and the restart, and the VSC, and all this thing," and then it ended up
- 5:35ending on parade laps or whatever it was, and that screwed him up because
- 5:38he lost, like, all those positions.
- 5:40Couldn't he have just said, "No, guys, I'm staying out"?
- 5:43Like, Jackie Stewart back in the '70s would've given them the middle
- 5:46finger and said, "You know what?
- 5:47I'm staying out here.
- 5:48To hell with you guys.
- 5:50I don't care what the board says." He probably, he
- 5:51probably could have done that.
- 5:52I don't know what the- Why are they such rule followers?
- 5:55I don't know what their rules are.
- 5:57"Oh, I'm sorry. We're gonna penalize you because you came in
- 6:00third instead of ninth." Really?
- 6:02I don't think he can get penalized, but I don't… I mean, I don't know what the
- 6:05backlash… I, I mean, I guess it's, if it turns out well, if your decision turns
- 6:10out well, then wonderful, but if he makes that decision and it doesn't turn out
- 6:15well, and he should have pitted- Yeah, then that doesn't, that doesn't look good.
- 6:18Yeah … then there's backlash, right?
- 6:21Yeah.
- 6:21You're supposed to follow the team orders.
- 6:23We have the strategist for a reason.
- 6:25We have all the data.
- 6:26We see all the things.
- 6:28But then are the drivers really driving?
- 6:30I keep saying that over and over again.
- 6:32What are they there for?
- 6:33We might as well leverage the technology and their remote control cars.
- 6:37When does AI start driving the F1 cars?
- 6:39Well, there's already AI on the Mercedes.
- 6:41We know that, and Russell's is not tuned correctly for his driving style.
- 6:45They need to use Grok to do it right.
- 6:48Is he the AI?
- 6:50Well, that suggests that Russell is intelligent.
- 6:52You know, I'm gonna leave that where it is.
- 6:54I gotta give Russell credit, at least in the couple of the r- last few
- 6:58races where he has proven Without a shadow of a doubt that these tires
- 7:05can go a lot longer than the BS pit strategy drama that they're creating.
- 7:11Because what was that one race where he pitted on the third lap and
- 7:14then he ran them to almost the end?
- 7:16They did another pit stop, and I'm like, "So you want to tell me that Hamilton
- 7:20couldn't stay out on a pair of mediums for an extra three laps during that
- 7:24one ra-…" Their strategy is bunk.
- 7:26And I get that Ferrari's pit strategy is bunk to begin with, but the point
- 7:30is Russell specifically has proven that these tires can go longer than we've seen.
- 7:37Especially the, the other race where it was like they were pitting every 10
- 7:40minutes for new tires, and he's like, "I'm just gonna stay out. I'm good."
- 7:44Maybe he's just better at tire management.
- 7:46But if all the cars are the same.
- 7:48As they say, he's the tire whisperer.
- 7:49I mean, it's the only thing he's good at I guess, but
- 8:03All right, the Dutch GP.
- 8:06I thought the race was terrible.
- 8:08Zandvoort needs to come back off the schedule.
- 8:11Would you rather see that or Madring?
- 8:14Is it gonna be like the Corrado other car comparison again?
- 8:18This or that.
- 8:19This or that.
- 8:21This or that.
- 8:22The Madrid ring is really bad.
- 8:24Ugh, God, horrible.
- 8:27And we'll get to that.
- 8:29Dutch GP was very DNF-y.
- 8:32It was horrendous.
- 8:33Let's see, the starting order was Norris, Russell, Kimi,
- 8:37Piastri, Hammy, and Leclerc.
- 8:38Perez goes, starts from the pit.
- 8:39Max is in the wall in lap two, and that causes a whole thing.
- 8:44And we thought Tsunoda hit him or whatever, and no, it was softs
- 8:48on wets on a wet ground, all this kind of thing, and it was just…
- 8:51Hülkenberg did a Days of Thunder move, and Coulthard actually said
- 8:56that, which I thought was hilarious.
- 8:58Bierman goes dead during the reformation lap, like, all of a sudden.
- 9:01And then the, just the, the race sucked.
- 9:03It was boring, and it was just like meh.
- 9:06You know, Stroll DNF, no surprise there.
- 9:08Ocon was out on lap 55, which caused a yellow flag, and that was
- 9:11right after Hammy was holding up Kimi, and it lets Lando out front
- 9:15and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 9:18It's all downhill from there.
- 9:19Bortoleto was out, and pretty much everybody after eighth
- 9:23place, I think we looked at the results, was, like, a lap down.
- 9:26Like, it was a terrible race.
- 9:28It was not good at all.
- 9:38And then we go to Monza.
- 9:41What do they call, the Temple of Speed, right?
- 9:43One of the oldest Formula 1 tracks is, like, from the very beginning.
- 9:47We have Gasly on the pole.
- 9:50What?
- 9:50That was a fluke.
- 9:51That wasn't lasting long.
- 9:52I was like, "Oh, poor guy. Well, enjoy it for, like, the first two corners."
- 9:58I mean, this was an incredible race.
- 10:00Going from the suckiest race, the Dutch GP, to Monza was like, holy cow.
- 10:05So on, on the starting grid we had Gasly, Russell, Leclerc, Hammy, and Kimi
- 10:11starts last because he had a motor swap.
- 10:15And so I said at this point, "Where's Lando?" Because, you
- 10:18know, our, our reigning champion, Lando Norris, nowhere to be found.
- 10:22Lawson and Alonso started from the pit, so they actually started behind Kimi.
- 10:26So he wasn't completely last, but he was the last car on the grid,
- 10:31which is an important technicality.
- 10:33To your point, Tanya, Gasly's lead was short-lived.
- 10:37Russell took the lead by lap two.
- 10:39So I was like, "Good Lord, been on track for, like, three minutes
- 10:43and Gasly's already fallen back."
- 10:45In that same amount of time, Antonelli is in 13th place.
- 10:51Leclerc crashes on the third, this, on the third lap.
- 10:54Okay, we have a red flag on lap four.
- 10:57There's a tangle with Piastri.
- 10:58He loses coming out of the corner.
- 11:00It's a big hit.
- 11:01Order turns into, on the restart, Russell, Gasly, Verstappen, and Colapinto, right?
- 11:06So both Alpines up in the front.
- 11:10But Kimi gets this advantage on the restart, so he ends up eighth
- 11:14and he's behind Lando, and then he jumps around Lando and whoever
- 11:17else, and he is, ends up in sixth.
- 11:19Again, he's going from dead last to the front of the pack.
- 11:23Colapinto goes off in Lesmo corner, and then he's down to
- 11:2616th place, so bye-bye Alpine.
- 11:28Gasly at that point, he drops by lap 10.
- 11:31He's already down to P4.
- 11:33Then Verstappen's leading.
- 11:34Kimi works up to fourth.
- 11:36By lap 13, Kimi's third.
- 11:38Russell ends up tangling a little bit with Verstappen.
- 11:41By lap 16, Kimi is second, and he is closing the gap on Russell,
- 11:46and it's getting exciting.
- 11:48And we're like 16 laps in of, like, a 52-lap race, and it's like, "Holy smokes."
- 11:53So Kimi's having his Senna moment.
- 11:55We're watching history unfold here.
- 11:58By lap 17, Verstappen starts complaining.
- 12:01By lap 18, Kimi is first.
- 12:05Gasly dropped back to seventh, pretty much where he was gonna
- 12:08be, and Audi is 11th and 12th.
- 12:11By lap 28, Lance Stroll has a hydraulic issue which causes a VSC, and Alonso
- 12:16is also out, so both Astons are gone.
- 12:18Antonelli gets the timing right.
- 12:21He pits under the VSC.
- 12:22He drops to fourth, putting him 12 seconds back behind Russell instead of the full,
- 12:28you know, 25 seconds that he would've been back under a normal pit condition.
- 12:31By lap 37, Kimi's back up to second place and he's eight seconds behind Russell, and
- 12:37it's like, "Oh my God, is he gonna do it?"
- 12:39Which their, like, lap prediction- Yes … when they came back out, they're
- 12:43like, "Oh, you know, we're, he's gonna catch him, you know, in like lap 50
- 12:48or whatever," the 51 or 52, so it was gonna be like this last lap dash.
- 12:53Nope.
- 12:54Nope.
- 12:55No, not even po- Then a couple laps later, Verstappen misses turn one
- 13:00and he goes through the chicane.
- 13:01Remember that?
- 13:02Yeah.
- 13:03Comparing apples to apples, Brad.
- 13:05When Hamilton ended up going off and losing the brakes and going through
- 13:08turn one, he was all, like, "It's like watching a old person doing a slalom."
- 13:13And then Verstappen, what did he do?
- 13:15He got to, like, the second thing and he accelerated.
- 13:17I've never seen anybody go through the safety chicane as fast as Verstappen.
- 13:21He didn't even lose a beat.
- 13:23Like, he didn't lose a position.
- 13:24He- I think he gained on the person in front of him.
- 13:27It was, like, unreal.
- 13:29So Brad, to your point from earlier, who would- I think Verstappen
- 13:32would get the next championship.
- 13:33He's still got the reflexes.
- 13:35He's still got the hunger, you know what I mean?
- 13:37He's willing to take the risks.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39On that same lap that Verstappen blows through the chicane, Russell
- 13:43starts talking about how his tires are failing, and this is the race,
- 13:47right, again, where I talk about the tire and the pit strategy.
- 13:50He changed tires to get his mandatory one pit stop tire change when the
- 13:55Leclerc incident happened on lap three.
- 13:58So he's been running for 40-plus laps on the same tires.
- 14:03Nobody does that.
- 14:04They're all like, "Oh, 12 laps.
- 14:05Time for new tires.
- 14:06New rubber.
- 14:07I'm gonna pit 10 times in a race." It's terrible.
- 14:09So he's proven that these tires can go the distance, and then eventually by lap
- 14:1549, they end up pitting him for tires.
- 14:19I mean, we're getting really close to the end, and then there's team
- 14:21orders, "George, don't take any risks," meaning you're behind Kimi,
- 14:25you know, because of some shuffling around and all that kind of thing.
- 14:28Don't risk it.
- 14:29Leave it where it is.
- 14:30Antonelli scores.
- 14:31He jumps up his points lead to 267 points.
- 14:35So the end of the race, Kimi, Russell, Verstappen, Piastri, and Norris.
- 14:39So the Ford sort of sandwiched in the middle of those McLarens, and Audi exactly
- 14:44where it's always been, Gasly in seventh.
- 14:46But, but, but Cadillac.
- 14:51Okay.
- 14:56They finished a race.
- 14:56Good for them.
- 15:11Madrid.
- 15:12Oh, this track.
- 15:15I saw this that you sent from Motorsport.
- 15:18These are the quotes from the drivers about the Madrid ring.
- 15:21I mean, Lando, "They need to change the track next year.
- 15:24It'll be better for the fans.
- 15:25It'll be better for TV.
- 15:26It'll be better for everyone." "I love Bortoleto.
- 15:29I almost fell asleep."
- 15:31There's all sorts of fun comments around here.
- 15:34Verstappen saying, "If you just drive a little bit in the middle, then you can't
- 15:37pass." Brad, you watched this race, right?
- 15:39What did you think of the Madrid ring?
- 15:41I thought it was boring.
- 15:43Okay.
- 15:43Comparison time.
- 15:44More boring or less boring than Monaco?
- 15:47More boring.
- 15:49More boring.
- 15:49Monaco is at least a spectacle, and just the fact that it's
- 15:54Monaco makes it more entertaining.
- 15:57What would you rather watch, Madrid ring or Miami?
- 16:09Zoom.
- 16:11Oh.
- 16:11Miami.
- 16:14Oh my God.
- 16:14Um, IMSA.
- 16:17Oh, okay.
- 16:17Good answer.
- 16:18That is a good answer.
- 16:19I'd rather watch anything IMSA, even freaking Detroit.
- 16:24Even Detroit.
- 16:25Yeah, that's, that's funny.
- 16:27Well, they actually pass each other at Miami, don't they?
- 16:31Maybe one or two times.
- 16:32Well, that's one or two times more than they could at Madrid.
- 16:35True.
- 16:36I could sit here and rattle off Madrid.
- 16:39Is there anything really to say?
- 16:40I mean- Nobody cares.
- 16:41It was terrible.
- 16:42Like, they literally didn't… I don't think, I think one
- 16:45person passed one person.
- 16:47Kimi ends up winning that one, too.
- 16:49So it started Lando, Antonelli, Verstappen, Hamilton.
- 16:53The final order was Kimi, Verstappen, Lando, Leclerc, Russell.
- 16:57That's it.
- 16:58Boom, done.
- 17:00And I think that's the race where Hammy went out, right?
- 17:02Because he had a braking issue, and he couldn't get the car to stop or something,
- 17:06so they ended up boxing the car.
- 17:08Yeah.
- 17:08Yeah.
- 17:08But he was out by, like, lap seven.
- 17:10So that was the end of that.
- 17:11I mean, there's nothing else that really stands out about the race,
- 17:14'cause it was like a freaking parade.
- 17:16And then what I didn't realize about this Madrid ring, it's like
- 17:19a temporary permanent circuit.
- 17:22Kinda like Le Mans is the same thing, where parts of the track are permanent,
- 17:25but then parts of the track, they have to set them up every year, and
- 17:28it… They basically drive around the convention center in Madrid.
- 17:32So it's like a street course.
- 17:34We lost Catalunya for this.
- 17:36Yes.
- 17:37That's what I'm saying.
- 17:37I, I mean, I think they're, like, on one of those every other year thing, so
- 17:41we don't have to, I don't think we have to suffer through it, like, every year.
- 17:44But we got, like, five more years of this crap.
- 17:46All I gotta say is bring back Portugal.
- 17:49Yeah, 100%.
- 17:49The track in Portugal is awesome.
- 17:51Hockenheim.
- 17:52Bring back Imola.
- 17:53That was off the schedule this year.
- 17:55Which actually is a very good point, Brad, talking about the schedule.
- 17:58Let's look at the official 2027 schedule for next year.
- 18:02Look at this.
- 18:03Look at this.
- 18:04Oh, Portugal's back.
- 18:05Look at that.
- 18:08Ask and ye shall receive.
- 18:10There you go.
- 18:11Portugal right after Monaco, but before Silverstone, and Catalunya's gone,
- 18:17replaced by this terrible Madrid ring.
- 18:20Barf.
- 18:20Urf.
- 18:21That is the 2027 schedule.
- 18:23Was, was Vegas on there?
- 18:25Yes, Vegas is still on there.
- 18:26Yep.
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:27There's three US ones.
- 18:29Yep.
- 18:29All right, in some fun Formula 1 news, Tanya, I know you were tracking this.
- 18:36Did anybody watch this?
- 18:37No.
- 18:38The Max Verstappen.
- 18:40I don't have ESPN.
- 18:41I don't have that work.
- 18:41Oh.
- 18:42I watched the start, I think.
- 18:44The videos were everywhere over the internet.
- 18:47Yeah, but it was like 10-second videos.
- 18:49It wasn't like you couldn't watch the whole race.
- 18:51If you watched 10 10-second videos, you saw the whole thing because he
- 18:54cleared everybody in like 14 laps.
- 18:57So it was like- Yeah … 35 minutes.
- 18:59That was the whole thing and it was over.
- 19:01The one big thing that some of the analysts pointed out, like you're
- 19:05supposed to do in cart racing or in any racing, just because the green flag
- 19:10is being waved up at the front doesn't mean the people in the back don't start
- 19:15racing until they get to the green flag.
- 19:17Once the green flag is dropped, the race has started.
- 19:20He passed like 25 people immediately because they were
- 19:23all sitting there like they were confused as to what was happening.
- 19:27Yeah, he started picking them off in just droves because it was
- 19:30like the race crafts was junk.
- 19:32But I also sort of sat here and wondered is his cart tuned differently.
- 19:36You know how carts can be.
- 19:37They're never equal.
- 19:39Supposedly the carts were all identical.
- 19:42I'm gonna put air quotes on that one.
- 19:43Supposedly they were all supposed to be identical.
- 19:46How quickly he was passing people in the start, it looked like he had
- 19:50turbo compared to everybody else.
- 19:52Correct.
- 19:53His turbo mushroom works in go-karting as well.
- 19:57I mean he went worse to first, P101 to P1 in
- 20:0214 laps, 35 minutes.
- 20:03So there you go.
- 20:05Meanwhile, I don't know how much of this is true or not, it's on
- 20:09Motorsport, but Hamilton has sold all his entire car collection and
- 20:14now he has that F40 that we saw him tooling around in with Kim Kardashian.
- 20:19I don't know that you need to sell your entire car collection
- 20:22to buy an F40 these days.
- 20:23I mean they have gone up in price this year, but they're
- 20:26not astronomically expensive.
- 20:28You could buy an F40 for like 3 million bucks.
- 20:30What does he make a year?
- 20:31Like 40?
- 20:32I don't think that's why he sold his car collection.
- 20:34I think selling his car collection had more to do with probably
- 20:39sustainability and- Mm-hmm
- 20:41not looking like he's hoarding cars and things like that.
- 20:44Ah, okay.
- 20:45They don't really talk about that in here.
- 20:48But I do commend his choice.
- 20:50Mad props, like if I had to have one car and that was the only car I was gonna
- 20:55have and I could afford to have that one car, it would definitely be an F40.
- 20:59And mine would be black, but you know, hey, whatever.
- 21:02So good for you.
- 21:03I'm gonna chalk that up to Formula 1 rich people things.
- 21:14Oh, and then in other fun Formula 1 news, we were reached out to by an outlet.
- 21:20There is a Gilles Villeneuve movie coming this year.
- 21:24We were actually given the trailer, so we have that up as part of the article here.
- 21:28It is in French, for the French Canadians out there, with English subtitles.
- 21:33It is making its way through the indie circuit like a lot
- 21:36of other films right now.
- 21:38But it covers the Villeneuve legacy.
- 21:40It includes family photos, interviews from the family and
- 21:44from the kids, and all that stuff.
- 21:45So I think this is really cool.
- 21:47I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing.
- 21:49The trailer's pretty epic.
- 21:51I mean, it's very, very interesting.
- 21:52So Villeneuve: Rise of a Legend, coming to probably streaming sooner than later.
- 21:59But you can check it out on GillesVilleneuveFilm.com or check our
- 22:03website for the complete write-up, some of the pictures that they sent us, and
- 22:07the trailer, so you kind of get a feel for what the new movie is all about.
- 22:12And I think on some other positive Formula 1 news, Jamie Chadwick
- 22:16completed her maiden Formula 1 test at Portimao in a Williams.
- 22:21So maybe, just maybe?
- 22:23Who knows?
- 22:25Right?
- 22:25Who was the last lady to run in Formula 1?
- 22:27Well, the last woman to attempt to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix was
- 22:31Italian driver Giovanna Amati in 1992.
- 22:35Several female drivers have completed private testing sessions in modern
- 22:39or previous gen F1 cars, including Jamie Chadwick, who tested a 2025
- 22:43Williams car in September '26, Doreen Pin, Mercedes, Jessica Hawkins, Aston
- 22:49Martin, Susie Wolff for Williams.
- 22:50No woman has started an official Grand Prix since the 1970s.
- 22:54And that was Lisa whatever her name is, right?
- 22:57Lella Lombardi, maybe.
- 22:59Lella Lombardi.
- 23:00There it is.
- 23:00Yep.
- 23:00Yes.
- 23:01The last woman to actually start and race in a world championship Grand Prix.
- 23:05Only female driver to score championship points.
- 23:09A half a point at the shortened 1975 Spanish Grand Prix.
- 23:14That's half a point more than Cadillac.
- 23:18Wow.
- 23:19And, and half a point more than Lance Stroll.
- 23:22That's for sure.
- 23:24That's for sure.
- 23:25So do you think she's Carlos's replacement?
- 23:29You think they're ready to let women drive in Formula 1?
- 23:32They should be.
- 23:33Why not?
- 23:34In the year of motorsport 2026, why not?
- 23:38Okay.
- 23:39Okay.
- 23:40Sure.
- 23:43Wow.
- 23:45Wow.
- 23:46I'm not saying because she's a woman and can't do it, I'm saying because
- 23:51Formula 1 is run by a bunch of men.
- 23:53Yes.
- 23:54I mean, that was the undertone, for sure.
- 23:57But I've also heard the argument from some people in our organization that say
- 24:00that, "Well, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. If they can't be competitive
- 24:04in the F2 cars," and this and that.
- 24:06And I'm like, but the F2 cars have, like, manual steering, and the F1
- 24:09cars are allegedly easier to drive than, like, the lower class cars are.
- 24:13They're, they're a lot more work.
- 24:15So if the progress to Formula 1 is to go through Formula 2, how can
- 24:20they even ever go into Formula 1?
- 24:22It's not fair.
- 24:23How many people actually make it from Formula 2 into Formula 1?
- 24:26Think about that.
- 24:27Literally all of them.
- 24:29Well, first of all, we know the Formula 2 cars are faster than the
- 24:32Astons, so that must mean something.
- 24:35The competition is fierce, because you put somebody like Colton Herta in
- 24:39Formula 2, and he's not doing well.
- 24:41What is he, like, 19th or something like that?
- 24:43I mean, am I wrong?
- 24:44I don't think any of the current Formula 1 drivers have
- 24:46skipped F3 or F2 straight to F1.
- 24:50Which ones are F2 champions?
- 24:52Was it Kimi and Colapinto maybe?
- 24:55Wasn't Stroll an F2 champion?
- 24:57That remains to be seen.
- 24:58Let's go to Gemini.
- 25:02The, the question for Gemini is, how many of the current Formula1
- 25:05drivers podiumed in the Formula 2 championship before they got there?
- 25:10'Cause if that's the gatekeeping mechanism, then it'd have
- 25:13to be everybody, right?
- 25:15Because to get their super license, and they need the super license to
- 25:18go into Formula 1, you only get the super license points pretty much by
- 25:23going through F3 and F2, I thought.
- 25:25Right.
- 25:25So she can't just skip and go into F1.
- 25:30Does she have a super license?
- 25:31I think in the old days you could.
- 25:32I think if you were fast enough, they would put you in Formula
- 25:361, because a lot of those guys didn't come through those series.
- 25:39I mean- Okay … we're talking pre-Senna days kind of thing, but still.
- 25:43Okay, so 50 years ago, when, uh, Fangio was doing it, you, there was no F3 and F2.
- 25:52I don't know.
- 25:53Cool.
- 25:55But let's just say, let's just say she's faster than Stroll, I'd
- 25:59put her in a seat in Formula 1.
- 26:01I mean, I think that's the bar.
- 26:02It doesn't matter if you're in Formula 2 or not.
- 26:05If you're faster than Lance Stroll in a Formula 1 car, you should
- 26:09be allowed to race in Formula 1.
- 26:11He had an F3 title.
- 26:15That he bought?
- 26:16I mean, he's a bad example, 'cause probably- No, I think he is the bar.
- 26:20No, I don't think he's the bar because there probably was, like,
- 26:23Super Points bought somehow, Super Point license bought on the down low.
- 26:27Like Uh, uh, uh, there it is … I don't know that he's a good example.
- 26:31There it is.
- 26:32Daddy Warbucks got out there and took care of him.
- 26:36There it is.
- 26:37So Jamie Chadwick doesn't necessarily have to compete in F2 or those
- 26:44series to get the Super Li- License Points, would also count, her IndyCar
- 26:48stuff or Indy NXT or Formula 3 or other types of formula series.
- 26:53But you would still need to accumulate the Super License Points, of which
- 26:57I don't know how many she has.
- 26:58But we know how hard that was for Colton, right?
- 27:02100%, so it's gonna be an uphill climb for her too.
- 27:05If, if they treat her the same way they treated him, they're
- 27:07gonna put roadblocks up.
- 27:08But then that gets into the politics.
- 27:10It's a boys' club in Formula 1, but does it need to be a boys'
- 27:14club in Formula 1 next year?
- 27:15So leave it at that.
- 27:17All right.
- 27:18Well, we will talk about Azerbaijan on the next episode.
- 27:23Wait, let's make predictions.
- 27:25Ooh, what predictions would you like to make?
- 27:27For Azerbaijan, who's gonna win?
- 27:29What do we think the, uh, win, place, and show?
- 27:32Win, Russell.
- 27:33Place, Kimi.
- 27:35Show is Hamilton.
- 27:36Maybe Lando.
- 27:37What does that mean?
- 27:38You think one, two, three is gonna be Russell, Kimi, Amy?
- 27:42No, probably Russell, Kimi, Lando.
- 27:45You don't think Verstappen's gonna be up there?
- 27:46He's- Nah … done well the last couple races.
- 27:47Nah.
- 27:47Maybe,
- 27:50but nah.
- 27:51So you're going backward, what we were just talking about.
- 27:55All right.
- 27:55Whatever.
- 27:55Tanya, you go.
- 27:57I don't think Lando, based on…
- 28:00Well, it's, uh, all the practice sessions are all sandbagging bullshit,
- 28:03so you really- Yeah … can't tell.
- 28:05I don't know.
- 28:06I'm gonna say Kimi's gonna win.
- 28:08Excellent.
- 28:08Max will be on the podium.
- 28:10Probably Russell.
- 28:12She says with complete disdain.
- 28:17It's like she has to wash her mouth out.
- 28:19Russell, you told me.
- 28:19I think Ferrari's gonna get hosed again.
- 28:211,000%. They're gonna look good.
- 28:23They're gonna look good, get the hopes up, something, some bullshit's
- 28:26gonna happen, and then nothing.
- 28:28They're gonna change tires 10 times when they don't need to.
- 28:31Yeah, it'll be great.
- 28:33This time Leclerc's brakes won't work.
