- 0:01Speaker 1: Balaton Park served up a full smallgus board this weekend
- 0:05Speaker 1: with sweet moments, sour shocks, and a few results that.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Is going to take a while to digest.
- 0:12Speaker 1: But the big question simmering after the Hungarian Grand Prix
- 0:16Speaker 1: should this track stay on the Motor GP calendar or
- 0:19Speaker 1: is it simply too dangerous to be served up again.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Pittalk is brought to you by Shannon's Insurance. I'm your
- 0:25Speaker 1: hostess with the mosts or Ronita Vmulin and joining me
- 0:28Speaker 1: at the table to chew it all over is my
- 0:30Speaker 1: co host Mac Clayton. Matt, I know you've got a
- 0:34Speaker 1: few strong flavors of your own regarding the Balaton Park circuit.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Right, yeah, look really good to join. You've made hungry
- 0:43Speaker 3: through the intro, which is pretty standard, so I need
- 0:45Speaker 3: to bring snacks to the podcast record or something that's
- 0:47Speaker 3: on me. But don't get me wrong, I love new
- 0:50Speaker 3: tracks on calendar. New tracks are cool. It's great to
- 0:53Speaker 3: go to different places, see different layouts, and you know,
- 0:55Speaker 3: it's nice to look at a track and not be
- 0:57Speaker 3: immediately familiar with what corner they're in and where they're
- 1:01Speaker 3: going and what the configuration is. That's all fine. New
- 1:04Speaker 3: tracks yes, this particular new track. I just there were
- 1:08Speaker 3: a couple of things in the layout that I reckon
- 1:11Speaker 3: that Motor GP might have got away with in terms
- 1:13Speaker 3: of major accidents or injuries. I don't know about you, but,
- 1:16Speaker 3: and I'm sure we'll get to this, but when an
- 1:18Speaker 3: Aa Bashyneni's sliding through the middle of a chicane with
- 1:21Speaker 3: the entire pack behind him on the first lap, I
- 1:23Speaker 3: actually physically stood back from the screen, just bracing myself
- 1:27Speaker 3: for the impacts. I thought he was incredibly lucky to
- 1:29Speaker 3: get away with that, and lucky seemed to be a
- 1:32Speaker 3: bit of a word of the weekend. You think of
- 1:33Speaker 3: Pedro Acosta's bike going over the fence and hitting a
- 1:35Speaker 3: camera operator and everyone was fine after that. It's just
- 1:39Speaker 3: the type of layout that lends itself to pretty sketchy
- 1:42Speaker 3: incidents if things go wrong. It's a car racing track,
- 1:45Speaker 3: let's be honest. The ramifications of things going wrong in
- 1:47Speaker 3: a car are far less on that particular circuit with
- 1:50Speaker 3: the layout. So I feel that motor GP got away
- 1:52Speaker 3: with one the track itself. It's nice to go to
- 1:55Speaker 3: new places. It wasn't the most inspiring layout of all time.
- 1:57Speaker 3: It was fine in a Vacuum. You know, I like
- 2:02Speaker 3: the fact we've got different styles and different requirements of tracks,
- 2:04Speaker 3: but it didn't strike me as being a classic in
- 2:06Speaker 3: the way that when we went to India for that
- 2:08Speaker 3: one year in twenty twenty three, obviously I knew that
- 2:10Speaker 3: track pretty well from the Formula one Days. It's a
- 2:13Speaker 3: shame from a racing point of view that track didn't
- 2:15Speaker 3: work out, because it's actuallyretty interesting. It's an interesting track there.
- 2:18Speaker 3: We know that some logistics things and a few unpaid
- 2:21Speaker 3: invoices put paid to that particular event. So it looks
- 2:24Speaker 3: like we're going to keep going back to Hungary, but
- 2:27Speaker 3: not sure. That's one of those ones that everyone's going
- 2:28Speaker 3: to be looking forward to massively, and I'm kind of
- 2:30Speaker 3: glad we got away with it.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like a lot of the info that
- 2:34Speaker 1: was coming from the balt On Park Circle this weekend
- 2:37Speaker 1: was a mixed bag. Some writers are going, this is
- 2:40Speaker 1: a go kart track, this is so dangerous, and others
- 2:43Speaker 1: are saying, you know what, I actually enjoyed it. It
- 2:47Speaker 1: seems like it was just one person would say something,
- 2:49Speaker 1: someone else would say something else. But I think, like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: let's talk about Anne is crash during the race, because
- 2:56Speaker 1: same thing for me. I know you said you step back.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I was sitting on the sofa and the gasp. Normally
- 3:03Speaker 1: I watched these races and go, oh, well that was
- 3:05Speaker 1: close or what. But to see that, to also think
- 3:09Speaker 1: about the fact of Luca Marini having that split nanosecond
- 3:14Speaker 1: to Missanaia as well.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You can see him try and go around.
- 3:18Speaker 1: It could have been two writers here that could have
- 3:21Speaker 1: it could have ended so badly. So yeah, and Nyas
- 3:24Speaker 1: sliding through everyone and you could just see his head turning, going.
- 3:27Speaker 2: What the actual is happening?
- 3:29Speaker 1: But Luca Marini also just getting caught up in it
- 3:31Speaker 1: and having to figure.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That out as well.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I mean, you've got the immediate guys behind Bastian and
- 3:37Speaker 3: you having to pick whether they're going to go inside
- 3:39Speaker 3: or outside of a moving target as it's sliding across
- 3:42Speaker 3: the track. And then of course every reaction that someone
- 3:44Speaker 3: like Marini makes service behind him has to make an
- 3:46Speaker 3: opposite reaction, and so on and so forth. So it's
- 3:49Speaker 3: testament to the incredible skill of these guys to be
- 3:52Speaker 3: able to identify the way through and not clean him up.
- 3:54Speaker 3: A massive amount of luck involved. Let's not be honest,
- 3:56Speaker 3: but the thing you just mentioned then about as soon
- 3:59Speaker 3: as he fell back, his first movement was to turn
- 4:02Speaker 3: to his left to see what was coming. And as
- 4:04Speaker 3: much as he had the helmet on and the visor down,
- 4:06Speaker 3: you can imagine the panic in his eyes. He's made
- 4:09Speaker 3: the mistake, that's one thing, But you're in pure survival
- 4:12Speaker 3: mode at that point and you are almost bracing yourself
- 4:15Speaker 3: via the impact. I don't think I've been that shocked
- 4:17Speaker 3: about someone sliding on the track or being prone across
- 4:19Speaker 3: the track. You remember the accident that Banya had at
- 4:21Speaker 3: Casalouniar a couple of years ago, where he was he
- 4:24Speaker 3: high sighted right in front of the pack and they
- 4:25Speaker 3: all scattered and then broke bid to hit him as
- 4:27Speaker 3: he was coming through at the back. We're pretty lucky
- 4:29Speaker 3: that day, but yeah, the absolute fear and bast in
- 4:32Speaker 3: his eyes you can only imagine. So I just don't
- 4:35Speaker 3: think tight chicanes on bike tracks. It just shouldn't happen.
- 4:38Speaker 3: It doesn't work. There's too many of them in the
- 4:40Speaker 3: lap to try and break the lap up. And you know,
- 4:43Speaker 3: look there's different configurations of that track. Maybe we take
- 4:45Speaker 3: one of the chicaines out. I don't know, but it's
- 4:47Speaker 3: an imperfect solution to an imperfect circuit. But yeah, we
- 4:51Speaker 3: got away with it and we had I've got to
- 4:53Speaker 3: say I feared it was going to be a bit
- 4:55Speaker 3: of a you know, sort of Indian vile race, no
- 4:57Speaker 3: one really doing much. It was actually a lot more
- 5:00Speaker 3: interesting on Sunday than I was expecting it to be
- 5:02Speaker 3: to a point. And the other point was that the
- 5:04Speaker 3: Motor three and Motor two races were both fantastic at
- 5:07Speaker 3: that track, particularly Moto two was just absolutely awesome. So
- 5:11Speaker 3: there must be something about that particular track and maybe
- 5:13Speaker 3: bikes without all the arrow and all of the various
- 5:15Speaker 3: bits on that motor g he has that makes them
- 5:18Speaker 3: better for racing. But yeah, I'm kind of glad we're
- 5:20Speaker 3: not going to a similar circuit next time.
- 5:23Speaker 1: No, I think you hit the nail on the head.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And that's something I was gonna talk about, was the
- 5:26Speaker 1: fact that Motor three, Motor two, the racing was a
- 5:29Speaker 1: phenomenal dam at Alonzo that last lap, Wow, I was
- 5:33Speaker 1: on the edge of my seat. But I think because
- 5:36Speaker 1: the rider is saying it's like a go cut track, yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I feel like it is designed for the smaller bikes
- 5:41Speaker 1: without their arrow without all this extra stuff on there
- 5:44Speaker 1: that the riders are actually having to push themselves or
- 5:49Speaker 1: find the overtaking points, because it kind of seems like
- 5:52Speaker 1: this weekend there's really only a couple overtaking points and
- 5:55Speaker 1: that was it, and it wasn't even down the street.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It seems like that that's start finish street because so
- 6:00Speaker 1: shut there wasn't even enough time to get slipstream or anything.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And then the bigger bikes, right, So yeah, I do
- 6:06Speaker 1: agree for the lower classes.
- 6:07Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It was fantastic racing, but then you get to Moto
- 6:10Speaker 1: GP and I hate saying it, but it's it's the
- 6:14Speaker 1: Marcus Show and we knew that was going to happen.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But the thing is that surprised me this weekend. We
- 6:20Speaker 1: had the two VR forty six's on the podium on
- 6:23Speaker 1: Saturday Sprint, but then Sunday's race, once again it was
- 6:27Speaker 1: Marco Bedzeki, who seems to be the only other writer
- 6:30Speaker 1: who's really pushing Mark for a majority of the race.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We know Aldegaez got that late race pace, we know
- 6:37Speaker 1: Joge Martin, which we'll get onto, but Marco Bedzeki Mark
- 6:41Speaker 1: and make the room. Marco was straight back that he
- 6:43Speaker 1: was giving it everything this weekend.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know what's so interesting in this conversation,
- 6:48Speaker 3: this is something that's on the to do list between
- 6:50Speaker 3: now and Cattalourn. You know, I need to bury myself
- 6:52Speaker 3: and do a bit of a deep dive on this.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Do you remember at the beginning of the season where
- 6:55Speaker 3: we used to talk about the Jacaddi Cup and it
- 6:57Speaker 3: was which dacadis finishing first, second, and third the sixth
- 7:01Speaker 3: best Ducatti is probably finishing sixth or seventh in the
- 7:03Speaker 3: Grand Prix. As this season has developed, we're noticing at
- 7:07Speaker 3: the moment Aprilia has been really good from probably Silveston onwards.
- 7:10Speaker 3: And yes, Mark has won all these races in a
- 7:12Speaker 3: row now, but as at a Prillier, that's providing the
- 7:14Speaker 3: biggest challenge. You think of Asen, you think of last week,
- 7:17Speaker 3: and you think of Austria, so Bdzeki's been really good
- 7:19Speaker 3: there and we'll get to Juge Martin. Don't worry, we
- 7:21Speaker 3: must talk about him in this podcast. But Kasey m
- 7:24Speaker 3: has been really good now for the last three Grand Prix.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Costa was on the podium at Bruno first run of
- 7:28Speaker 3: the year, equal his career best result. We'd second on Sunday,
- 7:32Speaker 3: So isn't it interesting? You know, Honda are doing really well,
- 7:35Speaker 3: you know, more recently, So yes, Mark is still making
- 7:38Speaker 3: the difference on a Ducati, but it's not a Ducati
- 7:42Speaker 3: benefit now, and we're seeing the struggles that the other
- 7:44Speaker 3: five guys are having. Aldegero will be fantastic one weekend,
- 7:47Speaker 3: Anonymous the next weekend. The Banyaya story. There's a stat
- 7:51Speaker 3: that I'm going to throw at you later that I
- 7:52Speaker 3: knew it to be true, but I looked at it
- 7:54Speaker 3: and went, oh my god, this is how bad this
- 7:56Speaker 3: really is. It's so interesting now that we've got a
- 7:59Speaker 3: lot of their manufacturers unfortunately not Yamaha, but fighting for
- 8:03Speaker 3: meaningful prizes.
- 8:04Speaker 4: And the thing I read.
- 8:04Speaker 3: After Sunday we had four manufacturers in the first five
- 8:08Speaker 3: finishes on Sunday, first time that's happened for over two years.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So it does show you that, yes, Jucady is going
- 8:14Speaker 3: to win the Riders World Championship, They're going to win
- 8:16Speaker 3: the constructors. We know that they've got the best rider
- 8:18Speaker 3: on probably the best bike, but this is not turn
- 8:21Speaker 3: up on a Ducati and just win these days like
- 8:23Speaker 3: it was in the past. I think the fact, you've
- 8:26Speaker 3: got a thicker brew here with katm coming on it
- 8:29Speaker 3: preally has been really good for pretty much half of
- 8:32Speaker 3: the season. Now after the first five or six rounds
- 8:34Speaker 3: and seeing Hondas up fighting inside the top six legitimately
- 8:38Speaker 3: not through any sort of fluc or anything, it really
- 8:41Speaker 3: does show you that the race from second onwards is
- 8:44Speaker 3: super interesting. It's just that the race of first place
- 8:47Speaker 3: is being won pretty much by the time everyone rolls
- 8:49Speaker 3: out for FP one.
- 8:50Speaker 4: At the moment.
- 8:51Speaker 1: So I know you're the stats men, but I have
- 8:53Speaker 1: a stat for you. Mat Marini's best Grand Prix result
- 8:58Speaker 1: with Honda becoming the first factory Honda writer to take
- 9:01Speaker 1: a double top five in the sprint era.
- 9:04Speaker 4: That is a three years. That is unbelievable.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Well a, it's amazing to say that about Honda, where
- 9:11Speaker 3: we used to just take that for granted when you
- 9:12Speaker 3: know certain writers were there in the past. But Marini's
- 9:15Speaker 3: been low key one of the better stories of this
- 9:17Speaker 3: sort of second half of the first half of the season,
- 9:19Speaker 3: if that makes sense, because he was seriously injured after
- 9:22Speaker 3: that accident that he had at Zuzukari.
- 9:23Speaker 4: He missed a few rounds.
- 9:25Speaker 3: It looked like it was going to be a long
- 9:26Speaker 3: time until he was back being himself again. His recovery
- 9:29Speaker 3: has been absolutely fantastic. We know him and Joan Mirror
- 9:31Speaker 3: on that new chassis me was really good in Austria.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Like they're just they're just looking really, really legit at
- 9:37Speaker 3: the moment you add them into the mix where you
- 9:39Speaker 3: know all the KTM riders are starting to come along
- 9:42Speaker 3: a little bit bitter cost us the best of all
- 9:43Speaker 3: of them. And then you just mentioned before, but Zeki
- 9:47Speaker 3: has led a number of laps in both Grand Prix
- 9:50Speaker 3: and they followed a familiar pattern in that he's been
- 9:52Speaker 3: the one that's He's sort of been the rabbit if
- 9:54Speaker 3: you like, a Mark's beIN the Hair's been the greyhound
- 9:57Speaker 3: chasing him. And you know Mark with race pace and
- 10:01Speaker 3: tie management, tends to seal the day, but particularly a
- 10:04Speaker 3: parlier and KTM to a lesser extent, Honda, they're making
- 10:06Speaker 3: the fight at the front super interesting. But what was
- 10:10Speaker 3: telling for me is I love watching I pride myself
- 10:13Speaker 3: as a bit of an unofficial body language expert here
- 10:15Speaker 3: and I'm going to put a pluck on the wall,
- 10:17Speaker 3: just give myself a doctorate or something. I love the
- 10:19Speaker 3: fact after all these races in the press conferences and
- 10:22Speaker 3: what have you.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Someone who asked Mark how hard.
- 10:24Speaker 3: He's been pushed over the course of the weekend. It
- 10:25Speaker 3: was a difficult, And there's some weekends where it is difficult,
- 10:28Speaker 3: like I think Acid for example. I don't think he
- 10:30Speaker 3: was the fastest rider there. He just didn't make a
- 10:32Speaker 3: mistake for two days and gave nobody a chance to
- 10:34Speaker 3: pass him. He was asked if the weekend was pretty easy,
- 10:38Speaker 3: and you're thinking brand new track. He learns them well,
- 10:40Speaker 3: anti clockwise tracks. He's almost unbeatable at them. And he
- 10:43Speaker 3: was asked if it was a difficult weekend, and he
- 10:45Speaker 3: sort of thought about it. You could see the gears
- 10:46Speaker 3: turning and he's like, oh, maybe I could dress this
- 10:48Speaker 3: up and say it was a bit difficult. And he's like, nah,
- 10:50Speaker 3: it's pretty comfortable. He didn't try and bluff anyone to
- 10:53Speaker 3: say comfort table as Mark would say, and he's one
- 10:57Speaker 3: of my favorite Mark Marquez English words. But he knew
- 11:01Speaker 3: that he had this race pretty much where he wanted it.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Got his nose bloodied a bit on the first lap,
- 11:07Speaker 3: had that running with Bitzeki, dropped behind Morbid Deli, but
- 11:09Speaker 3: there was just an inevitability to it, and then towards
- 11:12Speaker 3: the end you could see him occasionally just churn out
- 11:14Speaker 3: a lap in the thirty sevens that no one else
- 11:16Speaker 3: was doing, just to keep himself interested. I think, just
- 11:18Speaker 3: to oh, I wonder if I can shave some time
- 11:20Speaker 3: on this corner. So I don't think this one was
- 11:22Speaker 3: particularly difficult. Probably no surprise that he learned a new
- 11:25Speaker 3: circuit faster than everybody else. There'll be other tracks of
- 11:27Speaker 3: the rest of the season that clearly are more difficult.
- 11:31Speaker 3: What I'd be super curious to know is I wonder
- 11:34Speaker 3: what you could get, what odds you could get for
- 11:35Speaker 3: Mark winning every race for.
- 11:36Speaker 4: The rest of the season.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Be very curious to see what you could get if
- 11:39Speaker 3: you put some money down on that, because that's eight
- 11:41Speaker 3: more rounds, sixty more races across eight rounds. He could
- 11:45Speaker 3: finish two thousan twenty five on a thirty race winning streak.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Hows that could you imagine?
- 11:50Speaker 1: And the only one he didn't win is Coder, which
- 11:53Speaker 1: is he's the King of Coder.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Unbelievable.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Wow. But for a season.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Before I let you go with Mark, I've got to
- 12:00Speaker 3: tell you this now, because this is cued up literally
- 12:01Speaker 3: on my second screen here. So Mark has four hundred
- 12:05Speaker 3: and fifty five points. He has a two hundred and
- 12:07Speaker 3: twenty seven point lead over Peko banya who's third in
- 12:10Speaker 3: the championship. Peko Banyay for the season has two hundred
- 12:13Speaker 3: and twenty eight points. So Mark has almost doubled Banyai's
- 12:18Speaker 3: points scoring in fourteen rounds. And of all the things
- 12:21Speaker 3: that we thought were going to happen in twenty twenty five,
- 12:23Speaker 3: we thought it'd be like a gloves Orf fight between
- 12:25Speaker 3: those two for the World Championship. He's almost doubled his
- 12:28Speaker 3: score and we're not even two well, we're two thirds
- 12:31Speaker 3: of the way through the season.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Basically, it's absolutely astonishing.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Let's talk about Peko.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Let's move on to that, because you're the body language
- 12:38Speaker 1: expert here.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm not a.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Body language expert, but during Sunday's morning warm up, I
- 12:45Speaker 1: can tell that he was pissed.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Off massively, so interestingly, the body language expert, like, you've
- 12:53Speaker 3: just officially given me that title. Now I might need
- 12:55Speaker 3: to get a T shirt or something. But you know
- 12:56Speaker 3: what's really interesting with Peco is that he as bad
- 12:59Speaker 3: as things get, he's usually his composure is the thing
- 13:03Speaker 3: that he keeps and you think of some of these
- 13:05Speaker 3: other riders when one tenth of the things go wrong,
- 13:08Speaker 3: but they've gone wrong for him this year. They'd be
- 13:10Speaker 3: breaking everything and throwing the toys out of the cotton.
- 13:13Speaker 3: You know, they have one bad race weekend and it's
- 13:15Speaker 3: the end of the world, and they're looking to try
- 13:16Speaker 3: and move Pedro Costo, so on and so forth. And
- 13:19Speaker 3: Pecko has kept his counsel for the most part of
- 13:21Speaker 3: the season, but even he has his limits. Pecko's someone
- 13:24Speaker 3: who wants to understand why things are going wrong and
- 13:27Speaker 3: then try and fix them. And because he still can't understand,
- 13:30Speaker 3: and things are just going more wrong and more wrong
- 13:31Speaker 3: and more wrong. Saturday was as dire of a day
- 13:36Speaker 3: at the racetrack as a two time world championship could
- 13:39Speaker 3: be imagined. Really, was it worst dry weather qualifying in
- 13:42Speaker 3: three years. Absolutely Nowhere in the sprint. It was just
- 13:46Speaker 3: so desperately bad. It's bad enough in isolation, but then
- 13:50Speaker 3: when you look at the fact that the guy on
- 13:52Speaker 3: the sister bike on the other side of the garage
- 13:54Speaker 3: hasn't lost anything since May the twenty fifth, back at Silverstone,
- 13:58Speaker 3: it just twists knife that little bit further I think
- 14:02Speaker 3: what was interesting in the race on Sunday. I wonder
- 14:05Speaker 3: if he had sort of caught sight of the way
- 14:07Speaker 3: that he was behaving on Saturday and the fact that
- 14:08Speaker 3: he looked so down about everything. He was almost over
- 14:10Speaker 3: correcting a bit on Sunday, and I thought his race
- 14:13Speaker 3: was decent on Sunday, and he said he felt better
- 14:15Speaker 3: and he'd found something. But it's almost like he was
- 14:17Speaker 3: going a little bit out of his way to try
- 14:19Speaker 3: and sell us on the fact that he was happier.
- 14:20Speaker 3: And I mean, we know this seasons are right off,
- 14:24Speaker 3: but I think we said this on the last episode.
- 14:26Speaker 3: This isn't about this season.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Now.
- 14:27Speaker 3: It's like, can you get to the end of the
- 14:29Speaker 3: season and start the next one without being totally demoralized.
- 14:33Speaker 3: He's now working on twenty twenty six, six months early.
- 14:35Speaker 3: That's basically what it comes down to. But yeah, the
- 14:38Speaker 3: body language for someone who's normally so he's just so
- 14:41Speaker 3: cool about things. Usually it's not that these unemotional. He's
- 14:44Speaker 3: not robot, but he's usually very cool and composed, and
- 14:49Speaker 3: you know there's a rationale behind the way he reacts,
- 14:52Speaker 3: and that just wasn't there on Saturday and early Sunday.
- 14:55Speaker 3: He looks genuinely he's gone from being perplexed to being
- 14:58Speaker 3: rattled because it's like, I'm doing everything thing I can
- 15:00Speaker 3: to try and find a solution here and I still
- 15:02Speaker 3: can't find one. It's going to be, I mean, the
- 15:05Speaker 3: next eight rounds. If he beats Marquez once, it'll be miracle,
- 15:08Speaker 3: Let's be honest. But how can he not fall further
- 15:11Speaker 3: into this sort of pit of despair for the next
- 15:12Speaker 3: eight rounds Because as bad as this year has been,
- 15:15Speaker 3: we get to the start of next year, it's still
- 15:17Speaker 3: zero zero once we turn up for the first race
- 15:19Speaker 3: of the season. You can't let pass perforwarce dictate future potential.
- 15:23Speaker 3: And that's the spiral he risks going down right now
- 15:27Speaker 3: unless he can correct this.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Talking about the body language, I'm thinking back to Q
- 15:33Speaker 1: one on Saturday night, and I.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Okay, I've never ridden a Moto GP bike.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I understand a little bit body language and coming from
- 15:41Speaker 1: my brother, but I was watching Peco and to me,
- 15:46Speaker 1: you just mentioned it that he was overriding this bike
- 15:50Speaker 1: so much.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It's like the rear just was not sticking down on
- 15:54Speaker 2: the track at all.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And he keeps saying about the front, but then it
- 15:57Speaker 1: wasn't making sense to me. I'm going he looks lost,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and I can see this just in a q ON session.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I know he's trying to fight for those top two
- 16:07Speaker 1: places to move on and actually get a decent grid position.
- 16:10Speaker 1: But you could just see he was fighting that bike
- 16:14Speaker 1: so hard this weekend.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, there's like a bit of professional panics that are
- 16:17Speaker 3: setting in right, like he's literally throwing anything at the
- 16:19Speaker 3: war right now, just to hope that anything sticks, where
- 16:22Speaker 3: his modus operandi usually is to all right, I don't
- 16:25Speaker 3: understand this. I'm going to dig deeper and deeper and
- 16:27Speaker 3: deeper into the data, and I'll work harder, and I'll
- 16:29Speaker 3: find the thing we thought it had happened to Aragon.
- 16:32Speaker 3: You remember when he fitted those the giant break discs
- 16:35Speaker 3: on at Aragon, and that was sort of thought to
- 16:38Speaker 3: be like the you know, the magic bullet that was
- 16:39Speaker 3: going to get him back to where he was. He
- 16:41Speaker 3: ran breaks that you would never normally run at Aragon.
- 16:44Speaker 3: But all of a sudden, it's like, Oh, I've got
- 16:45Speaker 3: the front feeling that I haven't had all year. I
- 16:47Speaker 3: feel really fast, this is all great, and so you're thinking, Okay,
- 16:51Speaker 3: maybe that's the corner being turned, and he was very
- 16:54Speaker 3: optimistic about that. Of course, I get to the next
- 16:55Speaker 3: round at Magello. It yeah, it was Magello and where
- 16:58Speaker 3: he's normally so good and he was nowhere so you
- 17:00Speaker 3: go kick off the podium in.
- 17:01Speaker 4: That Grand Prix.
- 17:02Speaker 3: So it feels like he's just clutching at straws. Now,
- 17:06Speaker 3: what's interesting is that we're talking about this last week
- 17:08Speaker 3: with the Massano test coming up, and you know, would
- 17:11Speaker 3: it be beneficial for him to get on a GP
- 17:13Speaker 3: twenty four and try and find the feeling and at
- 17:15Speaker 3: least be able to express that back for the twenty five.
- 17:17Speaker 3: It sounds like that's not going to happen. It doesn't
- 17:19Speaker 3: sound like he's going to ride the twenty four because
- 17:21Speaker 3: it's not like he can race it, and rather than
- 17:24Speaker 3: I think it's interesting in that, Yeah, you could go
- 17:26Speaker 3: back and ride the twenty four and go, oh, this
- 17:27Speaker 3: is like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes or whatever,
- 17:30Speaker 3: like I love this, this is fantastic. But then if
- 17:32Speaker 3: you can't use it, it's just going to make you
- 17:34Speaker 3: more depressed about what you don't have, I guess. So
- 17:36Speaker 3: you've got to try and work out what it is
- 17:37Speaker 3: that you've got.
- 17:38Speaker 4: What'll be more.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Interesting is what they do next year with the nominally
- 17:42Speaker 3: the GP twenty six. Does it become is the twenty
- 17:45Speaker 3: six just an iteration and a development of the twenty
- 17:47Speaker 3: five bike, or does it take aspects of the twenty
- 17:50Speaker 3: four before they have to emuligate the thing and race
- 17:52Speaker 3: it for the season. He's not going to get some
- 17:54Speaker 3: sort of magic solution in the next eight rounds, but
- 17:57Speaker 3: maybe getting on a GP twenty four at Massano might
- 17:59Speaker 3: just confuse a bit more and almost make him lament
- 18:02Speaker 3: a bit more like, Oh, I had this, I love
- 18:05Speaker 3: this bike. I just can't ride this one. It's mostly
- 18:07Speaker 3: between easy ears at this point, and there's just got
- 18:10Speaker 3: to be a solution for riding this twenty five to
- 18:12Speaker 3: some sort of standard, because well, there's one guy that
- 18:14Speaker 3: seems to be doing a fairly good job of it.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I was thinking over the weekend about like the rules
- 18:19Speaker 1: and rags for next year, and I go, would it
- 18:21Speaker 1: be possible for Mark to jump on the twenty six
- 18:26Speaker 1: model bike if that's what they're going to call it,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and for Peco to then jump back on a twenty
- 18:31Speaker 1: four even though they're both on the factory team. Is
- 18:34Speaker 1: there rules and rags.
- 18:35Speaker 2: About that, do you know?
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, My understanding is they've got a home Allogate one chassis,
- 18:39Speaker 3: so they can't be mixing and matching between So yes,
- 18:42Speaker 3: you can have you know, remember last year the Grassini
- 18:44Speaker 3: team were running twenty threes and so I think within
- 18:46Speaker 3: the same team you can. But I think within a factory,
- 18:48Speaker 3: I think you've got a home Alligate one. So do
- 18:51Speaker 3: they come up with because clearly, you know, as much
- 18:53Speaker 3: as Pico has struggled to ride this twenty five, it's
- 18:55Speaker 3: the bike is going to win a World championship by
- 18:57Speaker 3: an absolute mile. And this goes back to the what
- 19:00Speaker 3: we've said about Marquez in the past, in that he
- 19:03Speaker 3: wins the championship when he has the best bike. He
- 19:05Speaker 3: also wins the championship when he doesn't have the best bike,
- 19:07Speaker 3: and we saw this in Honda. There were many years
- 19:09Speaker 3: towards the tail end of Honda where the bike probably
- 19:13Speaker 3: wasn't the best and certain time of years the Yamaha
- 19:15Speaker 3: is clearly better. He's the difference maker. So I think
- 19:19Speaker 3: I think if you give Banyai the absolute sharpest instrument,
- 19:22Speaker 3: let's say both of them are on the twenty fours
- 19:24Speaker 3: this year, I still think Mark wins the championship, but
- 19:26Speaker 3: I think Pecko runs it a hell of a lot closer.
- 19:28Speaker 3: If the twenty five is not quite the iterative step
- 19:32Speaker 3: that because the twenty four was renowned as being this
- 19:34Speaker 3: incredible bike to ride. We've seen Alex Marquees has had
- 19:37Speaker 3: his best ever season on that bike. We've seen Altager
- 19:40Speaker 3: get podiums as a rookie on that bike. It's clearly
- 19:43Speaker 3: the bike.
- 19:43Speaker 4: To be on.
- 19:46Speaker 3: You wonder what Mark could do on that bike if
- 19:48Speaker 3: it was really that much superior. It doesn't even bear
- 19:50Speaker 3: thinking about at this point. But I just think Vanyai,
- 19:54Speaker 3: this is massive adversity for a guy who hasn't had
- 19:57Speaker 3: a hell of a lot of adversity for the last
- 19:58Speaker 3: four years. I mean, last year's abby hip loss was
- 20:01Speaker 3: pretty much self inflicted. He was just too wasteful last year,
- 20:04Speaker 3: too many DNFs. It was explainable. I think the hard
- 20:07Speaker 3: part about twenty five for him is that it's not explainable,
- 20:10Speaker 3: and that's the hardest part for him to get his
- 20:12Speaker 3: head around.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I think to county his blessings and to look at
- 20:15Speaker 1: a positive for him this weekend was the fact that
- 20:17Speaker 1: Alex and Jack got caught up in all that drama
- 20:20Speaker 1: on Friday, which gave Peko Banyaya a couple grid plays
- 20:25Speaker 1: places further up for Sundays Ron Prix. So he was
- 20:28Speaker 1: a little bit further ahead in the middle of the field.
- 20:30Speaker 1: But let's talk about Jack, because clearly just another difficult weekend.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But it seems like it's kind of building up from
- 20:38Speaker 1: the Thursday. Now there's all the talk of him for
- 20:40Speaker 1: next year, in him giving the ultimatum and everything like that,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, Friday's caught up in
- 20:46Speaker 1: that drama and I'm going, Jack, this isn't going to
- 20:49Speaker 1: help you case here, like stop flaming other people. And
- 20:52Speaker 1: then obviously a double crash on Sunday's Grand Prix.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think you can draw a line
- 20:58Speaker 3: between Thursday and Friday to say that they're related. I'm
- 21:01Speaker 3: not one hundred percent sure that they were. He sort
- 21:02Speaker 3: of got caught up on Friday with Fabio de Jen
- 21:07Speaker 3: Antonio was a bit slow in front of Alex Marquez.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Alex Markes was getting frustrating, rolled out, didn't realize that
- 21:12Speaker 3: Jack was behind him.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Jack was annoyed with Alex. He rolled out.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Peco was behind the both of them, So it was
- 21:17Speaker 3: one of those sort of domino effect things on the Friday,
- 21:20Speaker 3: I think, with Thursday and Jack's little outburst in his
- 21:24Speaker 3: press debrief. What was interesting about that was that it
- 21:27Speaker 3: was right at the end of a fairly long debrief
- 21:29Speaker 3: where he was talking about the bike and that Austria
- 21:31Speaker 3: was a bit rubbish and what's the news going to
- 21:33Speaker 3: be like and so on and so forth, and he
- 21:36Speaker 3: was just answered, he answered in an almost offhand way,
- 21:39Speaker 3: it's like any news about next year, Jack, you know,
- 21:41Speaker 3: just someone just threw that in there. And it struck
- 21:44Speaker 3: me and I guess we'll have to fill in with truth,
- 21:46Speaker 3: serah and ask him this one day. It struck me
- 21:49Speaker 3: that what he had to say on Friday was quite
- 21:51Speaker 3: premeditated in that I don't think it was an off
- 21:53Speaker 3: the cuff just responding to a question. I think he
- 21:57Speaker 3: wanted to get his frustrations out there with the face
- 22:00Speaker 3: that this thing was taking so long with Yamaha one
- 22:02Speaker 3: way or the other, in an attempt to prod them
- 22:04Speaker 3: for a response. And I think maybe the catalyst for
- 22:07Speaker 3: that is we'd heard that Yogo Morrera had received offers
- 22:11Speaker 3: from Yamaha and Honda and I think Jack was not
- 22:15Speaker 3: so much accepting of that, but he understood. And it
- 22:17Speaker 3: looked like ahead of last weekend that Marrera was leading
- 22:20Speaker 3: towards going with Honda. It's a longer deal, it's factory
- 22:22Speaker 3: writer status. It makes complete sense if you're morera you'd
- 22:25Speaker 3: go to Honda right now than Yamaha, because Honda's really
- 22:28Speaker 3: making progress and Yamaha's sort of spinning its wheels a bit.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And then the man who Gonzales stuff sort of started
- 22:33Speaker 3: in the background like, well, he come up to Murder
- 22:35Speaker 3: GP with Yamaha, and Jack's at a point was like, well,
- 22:37Speaker 3: would you like to put anyone else's name in the
- 22:39Speaker 3: frame here instead of mine?
- 22:40Speaker 4: For this thing?
- 22:42Speaker 3: I've outperformed Miguel Olavera, my teammate, considerably over the course
- 22:46Speaker 3: of the season. He has a contract with a break clause.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I have a contract that runs to the end of
- 22:50Speaker 3: the season. Are you just going to keep looking at
- 22:52Speaker 3: other people and keeping me hanging here? Because the other
- 22:55Speaker 3: domino here was there were no other seats in Murder GP.
- 22:58Speaker 3: If he was going to go to World Super Likes,
- 23:00Speaker 3: those teams could only wait for so long. And I
- 23:03Speaker 3: think what you've seen over the past few days, Jack
- 23:05Speaker 3: had his little outburst that I think was quite premeditated.
- 23:09Speaker 3: He was a lot more calm over the course of
- 23:11Speaker 3: the rest of the weekend. There was some vision of
- 23:13Speaker 3: him and his manager Achieo coming out of a meeting
- 23:16Speaker 3: with Yamahat management on Thursday. Jack was a lot more
- 23:19Speaker 3: He just sort of played the line the rest of
- 23:21Speaker 3: the course of the weekend. And then on the Monday,
- 23:23Speaker 3: after the Sunday Grand Prix in Hungary, the Decadi World
- 23:26Speaker 3: Superbikes team where Jack was being linked to for obvious reasons,
- 23:29Speaker 3: they announced that Alvarro Batista is being replaced by Ikea Lekuona,
- 23:33Speaker 3: so that seat's gone. And Olivera was speaking on Sunday
- 23:37Speaker 3: after his best result of the year actually in Hungary,
- 23:39Speaker 3: saying that he's not ready to be a test writing yet,
- 23:41Speaker 3: so he's kind of acknowledged that he's out. So he
- 23:44Speaker 3: starts stacking all these stories together and there's an obvious
- 23:47Speaker 3: conclusion here. And I think, you know, it's Tuesday evening
- 23:51Speaker 3: as we talk about this Australian time. I would imagine
- 23:54Speaker 3: that before the next Grand Prix, Jack gets the news
- 23:56Speaker 3: that he's been looking for. But I thought what he
- 23:58Speaker 3: did on Thursday. Was you know, you told me this
- 24:01Speaker 3: was going to be sorted by before the mid season
- 24:03Speaker 3: break at Bruno. It's a month later. I've gone and
- 24:06Speaker 3: done Suzuka for you. I'm hearing all.
- 24:08Speaker 4: These other names.
- 24:09Speaker 3: What is actually going on here to try and prod
- 24:12Speaker 3: them into a response, and I'm sure this is on
- 24:15Speaker 3: your run sheheet. We haven't talked about this, but the
- 24:17Speaker 3: fact that Yamaha is now going to race this V
- 24:19Speaker 3: four as soon as Massano, I actually think that's a
- 24:23Speaker 3: pretty significant factor in Jack staying for next season because
- 24:28Speaker 3: I couldn't imagine them trying to get a V four
- 24:31Speaker 3: project off the ground when your rider lineup is Fabio
- 24:33Speaker 3: Quadroro awesome, Alex Rinn's broken, absolutely no results, Top brack
- 24:38Speaker 3: Rasctalioglu rookie, Diogo Marera rookie or whoever a man who
- 24:42Speaker 3: Gonzales rookie. That's not a line up to me that's
- 24:46Speaker 3: going to be great in developing a brand new project
- 24:50Speaker 3: for Yamaha while they're also juggling twenty twenty seven and
- 24:54Speaker 3: the rule changes coming in there. So this is a
- 24:56Speaker 3: job description that requires an experience head who's got a
- 24:59Speaker 3: lot of VIA V four experience, and the experience head
- 25:02Speaker 3: with the V four experience is Jack Miller.
- 25:05Speaker 2: It was kind of scary also for a while.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And I don't know we had it last year to
- 25:08Speaker 1: think that we wouldn't have an Aussie on the Moto
- 25:11Speaker 1: GP grid. And you know, we're trying to bring MotoGP
- 25:14Speaker 1: here to a bigger audience, We're trying to get more
- 25:16Speaker 1: people involved. To think that Jack, who's such Alarican and everything,
- 25:20Speaker 1: it has this brand that everyone knows of him to
- 25:23Speaker 1: him not be on the grid. But then I also
- 25:26Speaker 1: think of him as the athlete, going how stressful this
- 25:29Speaker 1: must be as well, because you've had a difficult weekend
- 25:32Speaker 1: in Austria. Difficult weekend again, You're dealing with all the pressure,
- 25:37Speaker 1: the rumors, everything, no wonder He shared his thoughts on Thursday,
- 25:41Speaker 1: like it.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Makes yeah, yeah, it makes sense. And there's two other
- 25:44Speaker 3: factors here. I think we had Simon Patterson on the
- 25:46Speaker 3: other week talking about the Liberty media era of MotoGP.
- 25:49Speaker 3: He is the biggest English speaking personality we have on
- 25:52Speaker 3: this grid by right now, by an absolute mile. I'm
- 25:56Speaker 3: not sure Liberty would be super keen on Jack being
- 25:59Speaker 3: off the greed that was going to be what happened.
- 26:01Speaker 3: The other factor to remember here and I checked this
- 26:03Speaker 3: before we got on the Australian Grand Prix, and he
- 26:06Speaker 3: has a contract at Philip Island until the end of
- 26:08Speaker 3: next year's event, so end of twenty six, there's two
- 26:11Speaker 3: more years on the current deal and the thought of
- 26:14Speaker 3: having to go and recent renegotiate that contract potentially without
- 26:17Speaker 3: Australian writer on the grid in a Liberty Media era
- 26:20Speaker 3: Motor GP that's going forward. That's a really interesting fork
- 26:23Speaker 3: in the road. And we know that Jack is You know,
- 26:27Speaker 3: Jack feels a very specific development need for Yamaha right now.
- 26:30Speaker 3: He's not the right rider for every vacancy on the grid.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I think he's the right rider for this vacancy, but
- 26:36Speaker 3: I also don't think it's going to be a vacancy
- 26:39Speaker 3: that necessarily lasts all that long. We might be having
- 26:41Speaker 3: the same conversation this time next year.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:44Speaker 3: But for the time being, he feels like the right
- 26:46Speaker 3: man for the job description that's being advertised, and there'll
- 26:49Speaker 3: come a point in twelve months or twenty four months
- 26:52Speaker 3: or whatever it is where he might not fit what
- 26:54Speaker 3: they need anymore and Yamaha might need something different. So
- 26:57Speaker 3: to my mind, it's Jack's last motor GP stop while
- 27:00Speaker 3: he manages to fulfill the need that they have from him.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And the truest sign of whether he's actually done his
- 27:05Speaker 3: job well will be if Yamaha improves to the point
- 27:08Speaker 3: where they're more competitive with Honda and then starting to
- 27:10Speaker 3: edge up towards the other manufacturers. Then that's almost like, thanks, Jack,
- 27:13Speaker 3: you've done what we needed you to do. Let's shake
- 27:15Speaker 3: hands and you know, right off into this into the
- 27:18Speaker 3: sunset in different directions, because that's probably going to be
- 27:20Speaker 3: best for Yamaha, and probably best for him at that point,
- 27:23Speaker 3: because he'll be thirty one, thirty two years old. He's
- 27:26Speaker 3: had a very good run, and I think that feels
- 27:28Speaker 3: like a more natural conclusion than it concluding this year.
- 27:31Speaker 1: No, completely completely agree. I think I brought up on
- 27:36Speaker 1: last week's pot. I think about the fact that the
- 27:38Speaker 1: V four and I said I didn't want it to
- 27:40Speaker 1: be ran out MATEGI where they normally have their test
- 27:43Speaker 1: writer is.
- 27:44Speaker 3: So, and it's the power you've got is you just
- 27:46Speaker 3: find Yamaha and say bring it forward.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Bring it forward.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That's exactly what I did. I just gave them a
- 27:51Speaker 1: quick cool note when I thought. I saw the announcement
- 27:53Speaker 1: made I thought, good on you guys. And the fact
- 27:56Speaker 1: that they're bringing it to sat Marino.
- 27:58Speaker 2: They know there's a test.
- 27:59Speaker 1: After wold they're bringing it early or Gusto Fernandez, Ok,
- 28:02Speaker 1: he's a few filling rise this year. I think it's
- 28:05Speaker 1: what we need. We just need this question answered.
- 28:08Speaker 3: We need to know the FEF going to be like, yeah, yeah,
- 28:11Speaker 3: we need to know. And if I'm being a little
- 28:13Speaker 3: bit uncharitable, which is pretty much the way I roll,
- 28:15Speaker 3: let's be honest, maybe if you bring it to Masado
- 28:18Speaker 3: and it doesn't go super well, it's better than debuting
- 28:21Speaker 3: it at Motigi in front of all of the Abaha's
- 28:23Speaker 3: banishment and it doesn't go super well. That would be
- 28:25Speaker 3: slightly embarrassing. So at least they've given themselves an extra
- 28:28Speaker 3: round ahead of time. And like you said, then, I
- 28:30Speaker 3: think the key thing the fact that test is the
- 28:32Speaker 3: day after the Grand Prix, where presumably all the regular
- 28:35Speaker 3: writers will have a crack on it as well, because
- 28:37Speaker 3: Squaaterero is, you know, probably chomping at the bid to
- 28:40Speaker 3: have a go at this thing at this point. So
- 28:42Speaker 3: it makes a lot of sense. But I'm just impressed
- 28:44Speaker 3: with the fact that you can just get Palo Vivessio
- 28:46Speaker 3: on the phone say look, come on, what are we
- 28:47Speaker 3: doing here? This is the power of the pit Talk podcast.
- 28:50Speaker 3: You just put a requested and things happen.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you know, that's just how it goes
- 28:54Speaker 1: here in Australia.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Just just just a real subtle flex by you, isn't it.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I'm kidding listeners, this is not what happens. But you know, yamaha,
- 29:03Speaker 1: if you do listen to the Pit Top pod, then
- 29:04Speaker 1: you know for sure, me and Matt we'd love to
- 29:06Speaker 1: come and be a guest in the garage of Phil.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Sure, just just give it, just give us the appropriate
- 29:10Speaker 3: credit when you when things go well, that's fun.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Talking about things going well, Besendigitia, want to touch on
- 29:18Speaker 1: this both riders from Q one onto the front row?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Can you believe that?
- 29:23Speaker 4: Amazing?
- 29:23Speaker 3: And how was the degen Antonio Q one story in
- 29:27Speaker 3: that he set the precise lap time that Brad Binder
- 29:31Speaker 3: set in Q one to the thousandths of a second
- 29:33Speaker 3: and managed to get the second berth from Q one
- 29:36Speaker 3: into Q two because his second best lap of the
- 29:38Speaker 3: session was faster. He then goes and sticks it on
- 29:41Speaker 3: the front row and he then gets a sprint podium,
- 29:44Speaker 3: finishing second behind Mark marqueerrez All because his second best
- 29:47Speaker 3: lap in Q one got him through to Q two
- 29:50Speaker 3: and that he capitalized on it from there. Kind of
- 29:52Speaker 3: amazing how these things work out. And Brad Binder, we
- 29:54Speaker 3: saw him at the back end of the top ten,
- 29:56Speaker 3: but no better than that. One of the disappointing things
- 29:58Speaker 3: I reckon about Sunday was the fact we never really
- 30:00Speaker 3: got to see what did you could do on Sunday
- 30:02Speaker 3: because he had that electronics issue and had to go
- 30:05Speaker 3: to the spare bike and his race was pretty much shot.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I would have been super interested to see he was
- 30:10Speaker 3: clearly the second Besty Caddy all weekend, and I would
- 30:13Speaker 3: have been curious to see where he fit in with
- 30:15Speaker 3: that Acosta Bezeki sort of crew up the front. VR
- 30:20Speaker 3: forty sixty. Caddy afterwards said that on race pace they
- 30:23Speaker 3: thought he would have finished fourth. So it's a lot
- 30:25Speaker 3: better than finishing fifteenth, which is where he finished. But yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 3: how was that to the thousandths of a second in
- 30:30Speaker 3: qualifying and that ends up on the front row because
- 30:32Speaker 3: of it?
- 30:32Speaker 4: That was an incredible.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Fifteen minutes honestly, qualifying this weekend was really fascinating, just
- 30:39Speaker 1: the fact, you know, Peco struggling. We don't want that,
- 30:41Speaker 1: but to see him and so many big names in
- 30:44Speaker 1: q on and then obviously Bes and Digi and I
- 30:47Speaker 1: kind of expected it from Bezel going. I almost thought
- 30:50Speaker 1: for him and it is he going to get pol?
- 30:52Speaker 2: Could he do this? Can he do the best weekend?
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:55Speaker 4: He did the same in Austria.
- 30:56Speaker 3: But again another thing that I'm sure it's on your
- 30:59Speaker 3: run shit, And I'm to talk about this. Marco Betzeki's
- 31:03Speaker 3: teammate was pretty damned good in Hungary on the weekend,
- 31:06Speaker 3: wasn't he?
- 31:07Speaker 2: That's what I was just about to talk about. Mate
- 31:09Speaker 2: took the words out of my mouth.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Joege Martin p sixteen to pee four. Can you believe
- 31:16Speaker 1: that the emotion that you saw from him when he
- 31:20Speaker 1: came back in the whole team, just that the tears,
- 31:24Speaker 1: the emotion, Wow, you could just feel it through the screen.
- 31:29Speaker 3: If you want to go and watch ninety seconds of
- 31:31Speaker 3: awesome on boards, go and watch Jorge Martin's first lap.
- 31:33Speaker 3: I don't know whether you've done it yet. He went
- 31:35Speaker 3: from sixteenth to seventh on lap one and watching him
- 31:39Speaker 3: pick his way through those opening four or five corners.
- 31:42Speaker 3: I think he'd overtaken seven people before the time we
- 31:44Speaker 3: got to turn five on lap one. It was absolutely spectacular.
- 31:48Speaker 3: He took the outside line into turn one and then
- 31:51Speaker 3: was just in this. Oh there's a gap, someone's gone
- 31:53Speaker 3: wide here, someone's been pushed there. I'm going here. It
- 31:55Speaker 3: was spectacularly done. And the thing for me he finished
- 32:00Speaker 3: three point two seconds behind his teammate who started fourteen
- 32:05Speaker 3: places ahead of him on the grid, and that I
- 32:08Speaker 3: don't think Juge Martin's back back Capitol back yet. But
- 32:13Speaker 3: this is his fourth Grand Prix of the year. Remember
- 32:15Speaker 3: and remember the first one he ended up with eleven
- 32:17Speaker 3: fractured ribs and a collapse lung in hospital. So he's
- 32:19Speaker 3: basically done three Grand Prix in a row. He has
- 32:22Speaker 3: come a really long way, really really quickly. He still
- 32:26Speaker 3: can't work out the whole one lap thing.
- 32:28Speaker 1: That.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Do you realize that he was seventeenth on the grid.
- 32:30Speaker 3: That's his worst ever Motor GP qualify. I went back
- 32:33Speaker 3: and looked at that and went, goodness to me, like
- 32:34Speaker 3: eighty odd races since twenty twenty one, so lowest he's
- 32:37Speaker 3: ever qualified. He was awesome on Sunday, and you think
- 32:41Speaker 3: how far he's come, how fast. It was only a
- 32:44Speaker 3: month ago he was back in a race situation for
- 32:46Speaker 3: the first time. We know the Aprili is good, We've
- 32:49Speaker 3: seen that for the past five or six rounds and
- 32:52Speaker 3: Bazeki's been great. This is like twenty twenty three bez
- 32:54Speaker 3: all over again.
- 32:56Speaker 4: But hand on hard.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I don't think anyone's watching thinking that he's the same
- 32:58Speaker 3: class of rider as Hall, fully Fit, Firing, or hey Martin.
- 33:02Speaker 3: And you think at the moment, the one thing Martine's
- 33:04Speaker 3: famous for is just these absolutely volcanic pole position laps.
- 33:09Speaker 3: We were like, my god, what is that lap where
- 33:11Speaker 3: he You look at the sector times and he's six
- 33:13Speaker 3: tenths up on his best lap in Q two. He
- 33:15Speaker 3: hasn't even found that yet. He's coming along really, really quickly,
- 33:20Speaker 3: and there's eight rounds to go. I've written a piece
- 33:24Speaker 3: on Tuesday for Fox sports dot com dot are you
- 33:26Speaker 3: wondering who's going to be the person that stops the
- 33:28Speaker 3: Marquez winning run? Like when will Mark actually.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Lose a race?
- 33:31Speaker 3: For the back end of this season, there's some good
- 33:33Speaker 3: Martine tracks coming up. There's a couple of good apriller
- 33:36Speaker 3: tracks coming up. It would not surprise me if Mark
- 33:40Speaker 3: rattles off another couple of perfect weekends. The one guy
- 33:42Speaker 3: that might beat him before the end of the season.
- 33:44Speaker 3: We know his championship defense is in the bin. On
- 33:47Speaker 3: his day at even seventy five percent fit or hey,
- 33:50Speaker 3: Martin could beat Mark Marquez this year. I could see
- 33:52Speaker 3: it happening at certain circuits because you're looking at the
- 33:55Speaker 3: rest of the pack and you're saying, well, who else
- 33:57Speaker 3: is going to short of Mark actually making a mistake
- 34:00Speaker 3: like he has a couple of rounds this year. He's
- 34:02Speaker 3: not fully back yet, Juge Martin. But man, there was
- 34:05Speaker 3: some stuff on the weekend where you're just watching him,
- 34:07Speaker 3: was thinking, you forget just how combative and how feisty
- 34:11Speaker 3: this guy is and how fast he is, and you know,
- 34:14Speaker 3: at a track where you can't overtake here apparently, and
- 34:18Speaker 3: he's gained twelve positions from where he started. I think
- 34:22Speaker 3: he sort of threw that theory in the bin. But oh,
- 34:25Speaker 3: he was good to watch, and you do wonder what's
- 34:27Speaker 3: coming up, like Barcelona good at Prillier track, right, So
- 34:31Speaker 3: that's going to be one to watch And I just
- 34:33Speaker 3: hope that he's more accustomed to what he's writing, and
- 34:36Speaker 3: he's back towards full fitness. Because Martin and Philip Island
- 34:38Speaker 3: is one of my favorite things to watch, particularly in qualifying.
- 34:41Speaker 3: He is awesome around there over one lab. We know
- 34:44Speaker 3: how good Mark is a Philip Island too, So sign
- 34:47Speaker 3: me up if we get another head to head with
- 34:48Speaker 3: those two, because that was fun last year, be even
- 34:50Speaker 3: more fun this year given what's happened to both of them.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Since I think quote of the year on this pod
- 34:55Speaker 1: is you saying Martin's going to win a race this year,
- 34:58Speaker 1: Let's do it. I think we're just going to ca
- 35:00Speaker 1: it out now. So when that happens, will you heard
- 35:02Speaker 1: it here first? Yamaha, heard it here first? And you're
- 35:05Speaker 1: predicting juge Martine's twenty twenty five made in Grand Prix victory.
- 35:09Speaker 3: And the best part about that is if it doesn't happen,
- 35:11Speaker 3: I will never mention it again, and so it'll just
- 35:14Speaker 3: be it'll just disappear into the podcast e through and
- 35:16Speaker 3: no whatever has to discuss this. So either way, I
- 35:18Speaker 3: think I'm winning this one.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I mean, all the listeners, you'll all forget about it.
- 35:24Speaker 4: I'll distract you with something else.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So it was a pretty interesting weekend for Moto GP
- 35:31Speaker 1: and if we were to move on to Moto two,
- 35:33Speaker 1: unfortunately our was he center age is when we recorded
- 35:36Speaker 1: the pod, it wasn't announced that it wasn't complete competing
- 35:40Speaker 1: and then I press record, Sorry, I pressed upload.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Pod was up there.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Next minute I see the notification he was replaced by
- 35:48Speaker 1: Sogio Guscia. So fingers crossed and is making a good
- 35:51Speaker 1: recovery and he will be back for Barcelona in a
- 35:54Speaker 1: couple weeks time. But let's move on to Moto three.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Great qualify result for Jacob, I think the boost that
- 36:02Speaker 1: he needed. But once again, overall tough weekend for the Aussies.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Jack Jack Jack Joel says on his socials that he
- 36:12Speaker 1: just just did not feel comfortable by the looks of it.
- 36:17Speaker 3: It was it was one of those weekends where because
- 36:19Speaker 3: nobody had any familiarity with this place. Normally you can
- 36:22Speaker 3: go back and say, oh, I've raced in the CV here,
- 36:24Speaker 3: or I've done Moto three here. If you're a Moto
- 36:26Speaker 3: two it was the blankest sheet of paper possible, so
- 36:29Speaker 3: it was interesting to see who was able to get
- 36:31Speaker 3: to grips with it faster.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Than not.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Jacob Rolston quick over one lap, like you said, faded
- 36:36Speaker 3: in the race again. His teammates looking pretty awesome at
- 36:38Speaker 3: the moment, Peroni, that's for sure.
- 36:40Speaker 4: And then Joel.
- 36:41Speaker 3: You know, I still don't think Joel's anywhere dear fit
- 36:44Speaker 3: after what happened in the Netherlands. He's still sort of
- 36:46Speaker 3: recovering a little bit from that, but just didn't quite
- 36:48Speaker 3: seem to gel for him this weekend. So yeah, definitely
- 36:51Speaker 3: a tough race weekend for the Aussies all up. You
- 36:55Speaker 3: know when you think no center and Jack had a
- 36:57Speaker 3: couple of crashes on Sunday, but Race of the night, well,
- 37:01Speaker 3: last three laps of the night David Alozzo and this
- 37:05Speaker 3: kid is I love everything about the way he conducts himself.
- 37:10Speaker 3: He looks like he's having the best day of his
- 37:11Speaker 3: life every single day. Is super cool to watch. If
- 37:14Speaker 3: this guy doesn't have Motor GP superstar written all over
- 37:18Speaker 3: him in about three to four years, he's got absolutely everything.
- 37:21Speaker 3: He's got the sound bites. He's amazing at the end
- 37:24Speaker 3: of races for a guy who's got no experience on
- 37:27Speaker 3: a motor two bike whatsoever. He's one of those guys
- 37:30Speaker 3: in three to four years time we're doing the podcast,
- 37:34Speaker 3: of course we'll be talking about him as being a
- 37:36Speaker 3: Motor GP front running rider because he just ticks every box,
- 37:39Speaker 3: doesn't he have a young guy you see coming through
- 37:41Speaker 3: this is like a Coster, but maybe even a little
- 37:44Speaker 3: bit more polished.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I think it's hilarious the fact that he's a Marquez
- 37:48Speaker 1: protege along with Killers, and I think these are the
- 37:51Speaker 1: two riders who are like dominating or I mean, obviously
- 37:54Speaker 1: the ones has taken a little bit longer to get
- 37:56Speaker 1: back to the front as he's meeting. If you guys
- 38:00Speaker 1: don't watch Moto two, go back and watch even just
- 38:03Speaker 1: watch those last three laps. Like Mart was saying, we
- 38:05Speaker 1: were messaging on our work chat, going, oh.
- 38:08Speaker 2: My god, look at David. Is he gonna do it? Oh,
- 38:10Speaker 2: he's gonna do it. He's gonna be a Moto GP.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Like this kid's the next alien and he's phenomenal. And
- 38:16Speaker 1: I just always think of hashtag baby goat.
- 38:19Speaker 3: It's a great hashtag. I do love it. And he
- 38:23Speaker 3: looks like he just looks like a little kid. He's
- 38:24Speaker 3: the proper baby face assassin. I'm not sure if he's
- 38:26Speaker 3: still got the braces and the band's going unlock he
- 38:29Speaker 3: was doing in Moto three last year. But he looks
- 38:31Speaker 3: like the nicest young kid imaginable. And then once the
- 38:34Speaker 3: visor goes down and he twists the throttle, he's an
- 38:36Speaker 3: absolute animal. And the best part about the end of
- 38:39Speaker 3: that Moto II race was probably five laps to go.
- 38:41Speaker 3: You just thought, oh, yeah, he's gonna win this. Watch this,
- 38:44Speaker 3: and you know, Marera, we know he's super super feisty,
- 38:47Speaker 3: and Gonzales is leading the championship and he's not going
- 38:49Speaker 3: to get pushed around, and there was just an inevitability
- 38:52Speaker 3: to him winning the race. He's got it. Whatever that
- 38:54Speaker 3: thing is, that indefinable thing that separates the great from
- 38:58Speaker 3: the merely very good, he's got And yeah, Moto GP
- 39:02Speaker 3: Star of the future, looking forward to that.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I'm very much looking forward to that as well. Well.
- 39:08Speaker 1: That pretty much wraps up our Ballaton Park review. Matt,
- 39:11Speaker 1: you excited for MotoGP to come back here next year?
- 39:16Speaker 4: Uh, CBC.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Let's see if we can remove Let's see if we
- 39:19Speaker 3: can have movie like two Less Chicanes, and then Ye'll
- 39:22Speaker 3: get back to you.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yeah, two Less Chicanes. Maybe Acosta not throwing his bike
- 39:26Speaker 1: at a cameraman and I'm hopefully not a Moto E
- 39:28Speaker 1: rider knocking himself out on the sidelines, which was crazy.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I messaged Kiko Giles, the commentator for that and said,
- 39:37Speaker 1: well done because that was a scary moment. Another big
- 39:40Speaker 1: gas for me on the side of the sofa. But
- 39:42Speaker 1: that's okay because Moto GP has one weekend off and
- 39:45Speaker 1: then we are back at the Circuit de Barcelona, Catalonia,
- 39:49Speaker 1: that iconic circuit that kind of looks like a crab
- 39:52Speaker 1: if you look at it long way. But like I said,
- 39:56Speaker 1: prity have been strong here in the past. Mark Marquez's
- 39:59Speaker 1: home track because we know he's born not that far away,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but also it's I guess home track for the Spargaro brothers,
- 40:06Speaker 1: Paula Spargo. Can we just talk about him quickly before oh,
- 40:09Speaker 1: wrap this up, because I just remembered for a test rider, man,
- 40:14Speaker 1: he does good, doesn't He's constantly in that top ten.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 3: I think he's I think he thought he might have
- 40:20Speaker 3: been done with racing and he's got back and been
- 40:22Speaker 3: so competitive. He was good at Bruno, really good this
- 40:25Speaker 3: weekend in Hungary as well. There's still a lot more
- 40:27Speaker 3: to give for him and we know that he's a
- 40:29Speaker 3: family man these days, juggling you know, does commentary for
- 40:32Speaker 3: his own kids and what have you. Maybe he needs,
- 40:34Speaker 3: like I don't know, a World Superbike sort of type
- 40:37Speaker 3: calendar rather than twenty two rounds about a GP, but
- 40:40Speaker 3: certainly hasn't got any slower, has he.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Well that's the rumors coming out now that he's like
- 40:45Speaker 1: talking about he'd be interested in a World Superbike ride,
- 40:48Speaker 1: which I think would be exciting because it's Paul and
- 40:52Speaker 1: the fact that he's coming back and doing top ten finishes.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So sorry, I digress, guys, if if we're wrapping this
- 40:58Speaker 1: one up and we had to talk about Paul Spargo,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but yes, we are back Barcelona next weekend. Can Mark
- 41:03Speaker 1: Marquez breakaway? Can Alex Marquez have a stronger weekend so
- 41:07Speaker 1: Mark doesn't wrap up that title in San Marino? We
- 41:11Speaker 1: are going to find out once again though. This podcast
- 41:14Speaker 1: is brought to you by Shannon's Insurance. If you guys
