- 0:28ever driven somewhere and realize that you have
- 0:32been in another world mentally. You don't even
- 0:34realize
- 0:35how many that you passed, like, where you
- 0:37been? Like, your mind has just been
- 0:40in outer space. I know I drive a
- 0:42lot, and sometimes
- 0:44my mind will just wander. I drove really
- 0:46late. The other night, I was really tired
- 0:48and my mind was in complete la la
- 0:50land, and that is not safe, but sometimes
- 0:52it happens, our minds tend to sometimes wander,
- 0:56and that's very normal
- 0:58When we become aware of it, when we
- 1:00become aware of what present moment awareness is,
- 1:04it really helps to reduce
- 1:06anxiety, and that's what I wanna talk about
- 1:08today, cultivating awareness
- 1:10of our mind and body and really living
- 1:13in the here and now
- 1:15That is what present awareness is. It's not
- 1:18stressing over the future, not
- 1:22rem
- 1:22and being sad about the past,
- 1:25but just really being in the moment that
- 1:27you're in, really being where you are,
- 1:31because that's really the only thing that we
- 1:33have control over,
- 1:34we can't go back and do things over.
- 1:37It doesn't really help to stress about things
- 1:40that happened in the past, and it doesn't
- 1:42really help to stress about things in the
- 1:44future because we don't even know if they're
- 1:46gonna happen the way that we're playing them
- 1:48out in our minds. So when we really
- 1:51cultivate this present moment awareness of just really
- 1:55being in just the moment that we're in.
- 1:571 moment at a time. It reduces so
- 2:00much stress and anxiety.
- 2:02I was in the car the other day
- 2:05with my husband, and he really... I've known
- 2:07this before, but he really laid it out
- 2:09there about what present moment awareness has done
- 2:12to change his life. And he was telling
- 2:15me how much anxiety he had before he
- 2:19knew how to bring his mind back to
- 2:21the present moment. Then he had no idea
- 2:24about how bad it was until he learned
- 2:27to do this and learn to have complete
- 2:30control over his stress and anxiety through his
- 2:32thoughts because we have so much control with
- 2:36the way that we show up and how
- 2:38to reduce anxiety with present moment awareness. And
- 2:42he was saying that he uses it so
- 2:44often at work, and he has a really
- 2:46up high stress job. He works
- 2:48very long hours, weekends,
- 2:51non nonstop. He's in charge of so many
- 2:53people, and his job is a very stressful
- 2:551. You know, we have 4 kids. There's
- 2:57a lot to be responsible for even when
- 2:59he gets home. So stress is definitely a
- 3:02part of his life, but re Present moment
- 3:05awareness has really helped him to manage it,
- 3:08and he just was telling me how he
- 3:10will just remind himself. That he cannot control
- 3:13the things in the future and when he's
- 3:16thinking about it, he'll just remind himself that
- 3:18it may not even happen and to just
- 3:20bring himself back
- 3:22to the moment he's in and not to
- 3:25rum over all the past things. He said,
- 3:28it's helped him sleep at night,
- 3:30because that rum nation over things about the
- 3:33past,
- 3:34he doesn't do that as much anymore because
- 3:37he now
- 3:38Well, just remind himself that All he has
- 3:41is this present moment. And so I say
- 3:43that because it just really made me realize,
- 3:46how powerful present moment awareness is. And I
- 3:50I feel like I've talked about it. I
- 3:51know that I've talked about it in previous
- 3:53episodes,
- 3:54and I talk about it a lot with
- 3:56clients
- 3:57because it's so powerful.
- 3:59This 1
- 4:00mindful tip can really change your life and
- 4:03it... Can completely
- 4:05take that blanket of anxiety off so that
- 4:07you can show up without all the anxiety
- 4:10and stress. It just really be in the
- 4:12moment you're in because when we're in the
- 4:14moment we're in, we're fully present with our
- 4:16loved ones, we're fully present with the people
- 4:18that we work with, and we're fully present
- 4:20for our yourselves.
- 4:22If you're by yourself, and maybe you're just
- 4:24cooking a meal,
- 4:26you're really
- 4:27enjoying the moment that you're in,
- 4:29because life has so much joy to bring
- 4:32to us, but when our minds are not
- 4:34where we are, if our minds are, on
- 4:37the meeting for tomorrow or stressing over whether
- 4:40we're gonna make that flight or whatever, it
- 4:43is.
- 4:44We're not where we are, and we're not
- 4:46showing up fully. And oftentimes all the time,
- 4:49we're just missing our own lives, and I
- 4:51think it really stinks to live your life
- 4:54but not really live your life to miss
- 4:57out on the life that you've been given,
- 4:59and I just don't want that for you.
- 5:01I guess, this whole podcast and really ever
- 5:04since I was little with having Leukemia, I
- 5:06think I just always wanted to share present
- 5:11moment awareness because I learned it then, and
- 5:15I've kinda relearn it through the years, but
- 5:17it's definitely a very powerful tool to get
- 5:20rid of the stress and anxiety that comes
- 5:23when...
- 5:24We are in our minds and not really
- 5:27where we are. Being present has so many
- 5:30benefits,
- 5:31our focus,
- 5:32the reduction of stress and anxiety. The list
- 5:35goes on and on. So
- 5:38I'm not gonna list all the things. Today's
- 5:40focus is just
- 5:41the fact that present moment awareness really reduces
- 5:44anxiety and stress, and it's it's like a
- 5:47blanket lifted. A few tips or takeaways,
- 5:50to be able to practice present moment awareness
- 5:53is to set time to just be if
- 5:56you can, even if it's just on your
- 5:58way home or before a bed to have
- 6:00some quiet mindful time.
- 6:03Another idea or tip is When you eat
- 6:05your food, don't gobble it down and watch
- 6:08tv or scroll to your phone, maybe you
- 6:11can do that sometimes.
- 6:12But try to really taste your food and
- 6:15take your time and eat. This is a
- 6:17great way to practice
- 6:18present moment awareness and really...
- 6:21Taste your food and practice this type of
- 6:23mindfulness while you eat. Another thing is just
- 6:26your breath. You can always come back to
- 6:28your breath, and that you out of your
- 6:30mind and into your body and your present
- 6:34moment awareness. And thinking of your life as
- 6:371 moment to the next, get and not
- 6:39wasting it. Time is so precious.
- 6:42Live fully. If you're struggling with your thoughts,
- 6:44just be gentle on yourself,
- 6:46Again, follow your breath and remember how amazing
- 6:49you are because you are amazing, and I
- 6:52don't want you to miss out on the
- 6:54life that you're living. It's so easy to
- 6:57just go through the motions and not really
- 7:00live your life to the fullest. And present
- 7:03moment awareness, it's just a great tool to
- 7:05bring you back to the life that you're
- 7:07in. So I hope this helps. I hope
- 7:10together we can plant some seeds of resilience,
- 7:12and joy, have an amazing day.
