- 0:05Speaker 1: A regular season is over, let's start October. It's gonna
- 0:10Speaker 1: be a fun day because there's a little manager carousel
- 0:13Speaker 1: action going on today. We're of course gonna preview series.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I've got something special saved up for slap Hands. It's
- 0:21Speaker 1: just a stat thing and the brackets are set. Take
- 0:25Speaker 1: a quick peek and then we'll get into the breaking news.
- 0:30Speaker 1: First off, in the American League, this is your bracket.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We'll unveil our predictions tomorrow. Tigers versus Guardians, Yankees versus
- 0:39Speaker 1: Red Sox. Those teams have no idea how the other
- 0:42Speaker 1: side operates, aside from many times per and then don't
- 0:48Speaker 1: worry whoever wins Yankees Red Sox plays a team that
- 0:51Speaker 1: they play all the time in the Blue. I'm kidding.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I think it's fine. And you are you going to Seattle?
- 0:56Speaker 1: By the way, I'm going to see it right, we
- 0:59Speaker 1: can officially.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Something crazy happens, which I don't know what that craziness
- 1:02Speaker 2: would be, but as of right now, as of what
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was told to book my ticket to Seattle for Seattle, Guardians, Tigers,
- 1:08Speaker 2: whoever nice whatever comes out. And then it's the Al
- 1:11Speaker 2: East versus last Remember it was the AL Central versus
- 1:14Speaker 2: the Yankees.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Now it's the Al East for the other rest.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Of the league.
- 1:18Speaker 1: You're gonna get well, I was gonna say, you're gonna
- 1:20Speaker 1: get the late night I mean you are definitely.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing we're not going to get We're
- 1:26Speaker 2: not on Well, Saturday, there's four games, so we're definitely
- 1:29Speaker 2: gonna be the latest game, probably because the Dodgers will
- 1:32Speaker 2: be on the road.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, if they win.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I mean, Saturday is a day where you couldn't pull
- 1:38Speaker 1: You can pull off a day game with the crowd,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and it's easier in Seattle.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, although you can't start it before four o'clock Eastern.
- 1:46Speaker 4: No, No, so twelve and the.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, But I don't think they're gonna do that
- 1:52Speaker 1: to that.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I don't think they'll do that.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I think it'll be the late game, and then Sunday
- 1:55Speaker 2: will probably be a four o'clock Pacific starter.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Five o'clock Pacific.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Is there a football game.
- 2:01Speaker 3: There's a football game at one o'clock.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So they're gonna go specific one o'clock Pacific, right, But
- 2:05Speaker 1: in my mind, they're gonna go as late as possible
- 2:07Speaker 1: then to have some separation.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Now you would think, yeah, that's why I'm thinking five
- 2:10Speaker 2: o'clock Pacific.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Maybe because that's still eight Eastern. That's that's okay, Yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 1: that makes same.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, well you're are you gonna have it at four o'clock.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I go up against the football team and then have
- 2:23Speaker 2: the Yankees and the Blue Jays or Red Sox Blue
- 2:26Speaker 2: Jays as the later game.
- 2:29Speaker 1: They like Sunday night, I think better than Sunday afternoon
- 2:31Speaker 1: with stuff anyway, because then you have less football going on.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think they think, but they see, here's
- 2:37Speaker 3: the thing. Here's the problem with Toronto.
- 2:38Speaker 2: They don't get all the ratings in Toronto and it
- 2:41Speaker 2: gets sports nets. So in Toronto you're it's it's a
- 2:44Speaker 2: it's a weird Anyways. Anyways, I digress. But I don't know.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's gonna be interesting to see what the times are.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I just know this.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I already have my passes for the Seahawks Bucks game
- 2:52Speaker 2: on Sunday lined up, and if there might be a chance,
- 2:56Speaker 2: depending on the game time, I might be the ball
- 2:58Speaker 2: boy for the first half or some.
- 3:00Speaker 1: We'll double dip and then tell everybody what the game is. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 1: go home and watch the game on Fox. If you're
- 3:05Speaker 1: not hopping over across and then real quick National League
- 3:08Speaker 1: and we'll get into previews and all that. But the
- 3:10Speaker 1: Reds and the Dodgers, and then the Padres and the Cubs,
- 3:15Speaker 1: Phillies and Brewers waiting. Phillies waiting for the Dodgers or
- 3:19Speaker 1: the Reds, Brewers waiting for the Cubs or the Padres.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Ready for some breaking news. Let's hit it.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Let's charge about.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Bob Melvin. Boom, breaking news. Bob Melvin is fired by
- 3:39Speaker 1: the San Francisco Giants. They have been the definition of
- 3:43Speaker 1: five hundred the past couple of seasons eighty one and
- 3:46Speaker 1: eighty one, this season one sixty one and one sixty
- 3:49Speaker 1: three over the last couple of years. Buster Posey, running
- 3:52Speaker 1: the front office ship, said, after careful evaluation, we determined
- 3:56Speaker 1: making a change in leadership was in the best interest
- 3:57Speaker 1: of the team. Last couple of months have been disappointing,
- 4:00Speaker 1: frustrating for all of us. We did not perform up
- 4:02Speaker 1: to our standards. We now turn our focus to identifying
- 4:04Speaker 1: a new leader to guide us forward AKA Posey's in
- 4:07Speaker 1: charge AJ And he gets to pick his own manager
- 4:09Speaker 1: this time.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, he didn't pick.
- 4:11Speaker 2: He didn't pick bab moment he remember he inherited bad moment,
- 4:13Speaker 2: so he had to give him a run. And then
- 4:15Speaker 2: when you got people like Logan Webb coming out saying,
- 4:17Speaker 2: this is the most talented team we've ever had and
- 4:19Speaker 2: we didn't make the playoffs. That hurts your chances. But
- 4:22Speaker 2: Buster Posey's not here to mess around people. We didn't
- 4:24Speaker 2: know that by now. We know it now. And he's
- 4:26Speaker 2: gonna find somebody. And I don't know who he's gonna pick,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but you know, there's there's a lot of people that
- 4:32Speaker 2: you could look at. I mean, there's a list from
- 4:34Speaker 2: Susan Slusser, David Ross, Bruce Bochies, Kip Schumacher, Mark Coolberg
- 4:39Speaker 2: their first base coach. I don't know, we'll see what
- 4:42Speaker 2: they do. But uh, Buster Posey, it's on the ball
- 4:45Speaker 2: is in your court.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I don't know how Buster could go to somebody who
- 4:49Speaker 4: doesn't have any experience. I don't feel like the Giants
- 4:52Speaker 4: are one a team that wants to have somebody with
- 4:55Speaker 4: a little experience too, in a situation like they built
- 4:58Speaker 4: this team to win not just this year but next year.
- 5:02Speaker 4: With getting Robbie Ray in that one trade, with getting Admis,
- 5:07Speaker 4: extending Matt Chapman, those are all well, not the Robbie
- 5:11Speaker 4: Ray stuff. But this kind of is their window and
- 5:14Speaker 4: they need to add to this team. It's got to
- 5:17Speaker 4: be somebody. You know, his buddy, the first base coach Hallberg.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I don't see your first time manager being that guy.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Before Bob Melvin got that job. Bob kind of came
- 5:27Speaker 4: out of nowhere for that job. After the Padres got
- 5:30Speaker 4: rid of him. It was gonna be Steven Votes. Stephen
- 5:34Speaker 4: Vote was going up to San Francisco. Look at what
- 5:37Speaker 4: he's done since he's been in Cleveland. Could that have happened?
- 5:40Speaker 4: Maybe Buster sees a diamond in the rough somewhere with
- 5:43Speaker 4: somebody and he doesn't need to go to me. I
- 5:45Speaker 4: think that the top candidate should be Skip Schumacher. He's real,
- 5:49Speaker 4: Buster's real, He's had success.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I love Skip. There's a problem.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Though he works with the Rangers.
- 5:57Speaker 1: No, he's not a catcher.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Oh that doesn't matter.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Do you think Buster Posey wants a catcher? I say
- 6:02Speaker 1: it half jokingly, but no.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Do you want somebody? He wants somebody that's like him,
- 6:08Speaker 4: focused to able to connect with people, but also knows
- 6:14Speaker 4: how to win. That's it. He doesn't want eye wash.
- 6:18Speaker 4: There's a couple of people in this list. I'm not
- 6:20Speaker 4: going to name him that our eye wash, and I
- 6:22Speaker 4: don't think busters about that life catcher, outfielder, first base coat.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Whatever I think he is, he wants a certain I
- 6:33Speaker 4: think he would want a certain type of manager to
- 6:35Speaker 4: come in, and I think that certain type of manager
- 6:38Speaker 4: is closer to his personality than the look at me
- 6:43Speaker 4: type of manager.
- 6:46Speaker 1: AJ Let's talk steaks. Omaha Steaks to be precise, Big

- 7:48Speaker 1: Susan Slusser has put out a list in her column
- 7:50Speaker 1: of possible replacements. That's what krats is talking about here,
- 7:54Speaker 1: Bruce Bochie, Skip Schumacher. I wanted to pause, so maybe
- 7:59Speaker 1: you guys can answer after I give the rest. David Ross,
- 8:02Speaker 1: Mark Halberg, who's the first base coach and is tight
- 8:05Speaker 1: with Buster. And then the next layer of the list,
- 8:08Speaker 1: she puts Javier Lopez, Nick Hnley, Randy Winn, Kurt Cassally,
- 8:13Speaker 1: Craig Albernass who's the Guardian's assistant manager and worked on
- 8:18Speaker 1: Kapler's giant staff. Although that doesn't have much to do
- 8:21Speaker 1: with Posey, and.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I don't want nothing to do with anybody was on
- 8:25Speaker 3: gay cap.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Now that's what I'm saying. But Casally could be the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Stephen vote move that's what's in Like Craig.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I like Craig. I think he's probably a manager in waiting.
- 8:36Speaker 4: But don't put his name with Greg, with with Gabe.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Don't don't. That's like, that's like putting anybody on the
- 8:42Speaker 4: White Sox staff with their ex manager. Just don't put
- 8:45Speaker 4: certain people's names. It tarnishes them.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Who's the pick, who's the predicted pick? And who would you?
- 8:54Speaker 4: Let's just why.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I just don't think he would do that. He doesn't
- 8:57Speaker 2: want to tarnish his rep. He doesn't want to do that.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I think he's like.
- 9:01Speaker 2: He's out this time, he's out David Ross, I don't
- 9:04Speaker 2: know that's a fit. I mean, Hallberg seems like the
- 9:08Speaker 2: good one. Buster knows him better than anybody. I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: Hobvey Lopez. Why because he's on TV, I mean Nick Hunley,
- 9:14Speaker 2: because he's around, because they're just because I'm a next
- 9:17Speaker 2: giant hire me Buster. I'm gonna hi. I played for
- 9:19Speaker 2: the Giants, my numbers, retired buster, I was a catcher.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I click all the fight.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Criteria, Barry Bonds raising his hand, I played.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I'll I don't think Barry's doing that.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Who do you think is the guy then on this
- 9:32Speaker 1: list I think would be.
- 9:34Speaker 2: A good one. I think Hallberg are probably out of
- 9:37Speaker 2: this list. Would be my top two that I'm looking
- 9:39Speaker 2: at on this list, Crats.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I like Skip. I think if I think if Buster
- 9:45Speaker 4: truly would interview Skip. Obviously this is just a Susan
- 9:49Speaker 4: Slusher Slusher list, I think there would be I think
- 9:53Speaker 4: there'd be a good connection there if Skip doesn't want
- 9:57Speaker 4: the Rangers job, if Boach leave. So there's there's a
- 10:02Speaker 4: little bit.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Of that, okay. And then the next layer for the
- 10:06Speaker 1: Giants is how do they get over the hump?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Hey, they had two guys hit thirty homers this year,
- 10:12Speaker 2: Raffi and Willia Domas did it.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They didn't really count devers I Adamis really did it
- 10:18Speaker 1: hit thirty? He hit thirty first giant since Barry Bonds
- 10:23Speaker 1: in two thousand and four? Is that what it was?
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think it was four?
- 10:27Speaker 2: I was there other connection?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Mm hmm?
- 10:31Speaker 4: Right is my choice? AJ's my choice in that list.
- 10:35Speaker 3: First love that in San Francisco if.
- 10:37Speaker 1: They cheered to no end, it would make noise to
- 10:41Speaker 1: no end? First, righty? Since Jeff Kennan O two so
- 10:45Speaker 1: Domas ended up with thirty homers.
- 10:47Speaker 2: On the number we thought it would be so there
- 10:48Speaker 2: and it was a Domas, remember a Damas, and everyone
- 10:50Speaker 2: dumps went had a good year. He ended up right
- 10:52Speaker 2: about where he should have been.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He did, he did.
- 10:57Speaker 4: RAFFI played one hundred and sixty three games. It's a record.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I forget when the last time somebody played one hundred
- 11:03Speaker 4: and sixty three games in a season. It's pretty cool record.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Which other teams could have gotten played one und sixty three,
- 11:08Speaker 4: but justin Moore no did against two thousand and eight?
- 11:12Speaker 4: Is that what it was?
- 11:13Speaker 1: And the Giants had pretty good attendance. I didn't see
- 11:16Speaker 1: final numbers, but it was definitely up this year, and
- 11:18Speaker 1: I think that had to do with Posey and bringing
- 11:20Speaker 1: in names that are going to be there for a while.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I truly believe in that. So I think Buster might
- 11:24Speaker 1: play a little bit more checkbook baseball over the offseason if.
- 11:28Speaker 4: They let him.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But I think he has their ear better than most do.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It's tougher to tell Buster no, especially when he looks
- 11:35Speaker 1: back and says, listen, guys, I just came in. I
- 11:37Speaker 1: got you a superstar name, Endeavors, I got you higher attendance.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I'm sure the team made good money this year, Let's
- 11:44Speaker 1: keep spending and let's get some more help for this team,
- 11:47Speaker 1: because they were close. That's a five hundred team. So
- 11:49Speaker 1: they won eighty two games or eighty one game, sorry,
- 11:52Speaker 1: eighty one and eighty one. The team that made the
- 11:55Speaker 1: playoffs in the National League in the last seat won
- 11:58Speaker 1: how many games? Eighty three? Was it four?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Three?
- 12:02Speaker 1: Eighty three games? They were two wins away. It's not
- 12:05Speaker 1: very far away.
- 12:07Speaker 4: They need Obviously, you're always gonna say this about the Giants.
- 12:10Speaker 4: They need to continue to add pop to the lineup.
- 12:13Speaker 4: But I think bus I'm just basing it on busters
- 12:17Speaker 4: track to the big leagues. They had dudes from the
- 12:20Speaker 4: minor leagues that were then supplemented with other guys around them.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Now they have guys that are in positions that they
- 12:29Speaker 4: brought in and are paying some cashish to. They need
- 12:32Speaker 4: guys like Bryce Eldrid. They need guys like Tyler Fitzgerald.
- 12:36Speaker 4: They need guys like ili O Ramos to take their
- 12:41Speaker 4: next step, whatever their next step is, for this team
- 12:45Speaker 4: to contend. I don't think you can go out and say, Okay,
- 12:48Speaker 4: we're gonna go and get Pete Alonso, We're gonna go
- 12:51Speaker 4: and get Zach Gallon to pitch for us. Like, I
- 12:55Speaker 4: think they do need to add a starting pitcher, and
- 12:58Speaker 4: they need to definitely solid a by that bullpen. They
- 13:01Speaker 4: thought daval was going to be the guy. Is Ryan
- 13:03Speaker 4: Walker a closer or an ath inning guy? To me
- 13:06Speaker 4: that those pieces, there's pieces that are there to be
- 13:09Speaker 4: able to be a really good defending team. Now they
- 13:13Speaker 4: have to add to it and hopefully this manager comes
- 13:16Speaker 4: in and creates that winning environment that Buster expects a lot.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You just let you just wrat him off a lot
- 13:22Speaker 2: of holes though.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're going to be aggressive this offseason. I
- 13:25Speaker 1: think I do. I do think their payrolls it's like
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think middle of the pack from what I remember.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yeah, they listen, they can spend if they want.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they're the Giants. But the key is, you know
- 13:37Speaker 2: they you know, what does Verlander do? Does he come back?
- 13:41Speaker 2: How do they figure out the bullpen? Can they find
- 13:43Speaker 2: more offense? Can they play better defense? Is Patrick Bailey
- 13:47Speaker 2: their catcher? Right?
- 13:50Speaker 3: They got some serious questions.
- 13:52Speaker 1: One more to finish this. Bob Melvin, is he going
- 13:56Speaker 1: to get another game? You think he'll be in the.
- 13:58Speaker 2: West because he's Arizona Giants, Oakland, San Diego.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Rockies, Rockies. Maybe you think you're gonna get another gig.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You don't think he's been doing it for a long time. Three.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I think he's twenty something years, twenty five years or
- 14:14Speaker 1: something managing.
- 14:15Speaker 4: At this point.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I mean this with all due respect. I think sometimes
- 14:20Speaker 1: you could be a little past your prime. Where he
- 14:22Speaker 1: was thriving with the A's kind of had some up
- 14:24Speaker 1: his ups and downs more talented rosters. He's never won
- 14:27Speaker 1: I know, a World Series. No, not close. I don't
- 14:29Speaker 1: think he's ever brought the team to the World Series, right,
- 14:32Speaker 1: which one.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Do you have been with? None of those teams I
- 14:34Speaker 3: name made it.
- 14:35Speaker 1: No, the A's had some nice runs during the season
- 14:39Speaker 1: to get to the playoffs, but never went over the hump.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And I think that was where he really shined with
- 14:43Speaker 1: those types of teams. So maybe he's more of a
- 14:46Speaker 1: small market rebuild. Yeah, that was the bright shining moment.
- 14:53Speaker 1: So I don't know, We'll see. I'm not sure. I
- 14:55Speaker 1: don't know if he definitely gets a gig, just throwing
- 14:58Speaker 1: it out there. The Pirate ordered more, Don Kelly. He
- 15:02Speaker 1: has been extended. I'm not surprised the Pirates did play
- 15:06Speaker 1: better under him and also Bob Nutting doesn't give him
- 15:09Speaker 1: a fuck.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I really like.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Donkey, Yeah, I really, this is this is really honest.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I do like Don Kelly a lot. He's a great guy.
- 15:20Speaker 2: He's always been good to talk to. But without even
- 15:23Speaker 2: going out if they want to hire This kind of
- 15:25Speaker 2: goes back to the we talked about the White Sox
- 15:28Speaker 2: and how they did it, like go outside the organization
- 15:31Speaker 2: at least, like you you can tell Don Kelly, look,
- 15:33Speaker 2: we're gonna hire you, but we're just gonna talk to
- 15:36Speaker 2: these other people. But I don't know if maybe they
- 15:38Speaker 2: were thinking maybe Don Kelly could get a chance at
- 15:40Speaker 2: another job that might pay him more. See that's kind
- 15:43Speaker 2: of where you know what I'm saying, like, hey, don
- 15:44Speaker 2: we're gonna hire you, but we're just gonna interview some
- 15:46Speaker 2: other people just to get some ideas, and we can
- 15:48Speaker 2: use those ideas.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Free info for several days.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I don't know. They playing flight the plane tickets were
- 15:55Speaker 4: too expensive to pay for people to come in with Pittsburgh.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That is true. That is true. That does go against
- 16:01Speaker 1: the budget, which would prevent them from signing play up.
- 16:04Speaker 1: They don't do that. This is the Dodgers rotation. Game one,
- 16:10Speaker 1: Snell Game two, Yamamoto Game three, Otani. We also learned
- 16:14Speaker 1: that Kershaw is not going to be on the roster.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Any surprises here.
- 16:18Speaker 2: I thought Yamamoto would probably go game one, but I
- 16:22Speaker 2: get it. Snell has the pedigreen all that, And I
- 16:25Speaker 2: don't know what the Reds numbers exactly are against lefties,
- 16:27Speaker 2: but I think they're much worse against lefties, so I
- 16:30Speaker 2: think that's why they're doing that. And then Otani game three,
- 16:34Speaker 2: if it gets it would be very interesting. It gives
- 16:36Speaker 2: them the day off if they win, to get ready
- 16:38Speaker 2: for the next round. So I think this is kind
- 16:40Speaker 2: of what we expected. But the Reds haven't had a
- 16:42Speaker 2: lot of success against LA the last couple of years.
- 16:44Speaker 1: We'll see and or Otani would start game one of
- 16:48Speaker 1: the next round if they get it done with two games. Yeah,
- 16:51Speaker 1: that's what they said.
- 16:52Speaker 3: At least that makes sense.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 3: The bigger question is after Hunter Green, who's pitching.
- 16:57Speaker 1: For the Reds exactly?
- 16:59Speaker 4: Tell baby, I guess, I guess that's a guy.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Bullpen Chase Burns couple innings if he's not used in
- 17:04Speaker 1: Game one. Suitor B Suitor b okay aj our slab
- 17:11Speaker 1: pack ripping, continues. Now you just ripped a card that
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think you're actually going to keep.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I am, I'm gonna keep it. It's a Ken Griffy
- 17:20Speaker 2: Junior Rookie card. The old is the famous upper Deck
- 17:23Speaker 2: one I believe it is. And yeah, heck ya, I'm
- 17:26Speaker 2: gonna keep it because I'm gonna get Griffy to sign it.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna get him to send it to me. What
- 17:30Speaker 2: you can do, and I'm gonna get Griffy to sign it,
- 17:32Speaker 2: and it's only gonna make it worth more. So I
- 17:34Speaker 2: am all in on this card. I'm keeping it, and
- 17:37Speaker 2: it is one of the coolest cards with the highest
- 17:39Speaker 2: turtle neck you've ever seen and the gold chain around
- 17:42Speaker 2: his neck.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Graded nine nineteen eighty nine upper Deck. You got the
- 17:47Speaker 1: offer for one seventy nine. It's valued at around one
- 17:50Speaker 1: ninety nine. And you're like, nah, I'm keeping it. But
- 17:51Speaker 1: if you want it to sell it back instantly, you can.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It's the beauty of Arena Club. AJ's going to send
- 17:56Speaker 1: in and get the physical card sent to him, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: you could do the same sent off your first slab
- 18:01Speaker 1: pack or card purchase. Can happen for you if you
- 18:04Speaker 1: go to Arena Club Dot com slash foul and use
- 18:07Speaker 1: the code foul better than box scores. Let's give proper
- 18:21Speaker 1: love to the Cincinnati Reds losing their way into the WAKA.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm kidding, I'm kidding. They had a nice weekend. They
- 18:28Speaker 1: did fall in the final game, which was a must win,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but the Mets weren't much more of a disaster. This
- 18:33Speaker 1: team's played five hundred ball for a while, but guess
- 18:35Speaker 1: what if you play five hundred ball for most of
- 18:38Speaker 1: the season, you.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Got a chance to make it into the playoffs. And
- 18:41Speaker 5: the Reds kept themselves enough in the mix. The Mets
- 18:45Speaker 5: also fell apart, and here they are to pick up
- 18:48Speaker 5: the pieces and face the Dodger.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Terry Frankcona and the Reds. I mean, listen, I bet
- 18:55Speaker 2: we talked about the stat I just said.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I did a game on Saturday.
- 18:58Speaker 2: They hadn't beaten the Brewers thirteen straight series, I think
- 19:01Speaker 2: it was, and they win this series. They win the
- 19:04Speaker 2: first two games to put the pressure on the Mets,
- 19:05Speaker 2: and the Mets couldn't do it because don't forget, the
- 19:08Speaker 2: Mets went into this series of the one game lead. Yes, right,
- 19:11Speaker 2: so they win two out of three, they're probably in
- 19:14Speaker 2: and they lose two out of three and that gets
- 19:15Speaker 2: into the tie, which gets him in. So I listen.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Tremendous job by Terry Francona managing the bullpen. The bullpen
- 19:22Speaker 2: has been incredible for the last month or so. Hunter
- 19:26Speaker 2: Green's been great. Andrew Rabbits faded a little bit, but
- 19:28Speaker 2: he was great. All your Brady Singer has been really
- 19:30Speaker 2: good for him Latel's been good since they picked him up.
- 19:32Speaker 2: They have Lodolo. They don't know what they're gonna.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Do with him.
- 19:34Speaker 3: He pitched out of the bullpen yesterday. So listen.
- 19:37Speaker 2: This Reds team, I don't know if they'll get very
- 19:39Speaker 2: far in the playoffs, but they deserve a ton of
- 19:41Speaker 2: credit for getting in.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I think their pitching can keep up with LA. The
- 19:45Speaker 1: offenses are rattic.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Spencer Steer has been good. Ellie's kind of got a
- 19:50Speaker 2: little bit better.
- 19:52Speaker 1: But you've gotten better lately the last few weeks. Is
- 19:53Speaker 1: getting on base more. There's a little more oppostic field pop,
- 19:56Speaker 1: but he doesn't look like the li were expecting. And
- 19:59Speaker 1: then Noel Martez had some nice moments at the plate. TJ.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Friedel gets on base, Yeah, that's it.
- 20:06Speaker 3: They strike out so much though they strike out so
- 20:10Speaker 3: much against a team of the Dodgers that's built on striking.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You to me, Kratz, if they're going to pull off
- 20:17Speaker 1: victories against the Dodgers, their pitching is gonna be nails
- 20:20Speaker 1: from start to finish. Right, You're gonna get like a
- 20:22Speaker 1: dominant Green start. We talked about how the bullpen's been
- 20:24Speaker 1: really good, and then you're gonna like scratch some of
- 20:26Speaker 1: those playoff runs together, right, Freedol gets on or Steer
- 20:30Speaker 1: and Ellie creates some offense, or maybe they run they
- 20:33Speaker 1: get really aggressive against the catching corps for the Dodgers.
- 20:37Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 20:39Speaker 4: I mean, that's to me, that's the only way, like
- 20:41Speaker 4: I could see these games if Hunter Green comes out
- 20:45Speaker 4: and is just nails like he has been the last
- 20:48Speaker 4: two seasons. Yes, you know, maybe Nick Martinez gives them
- 20:52Speaker 4: some length and some games out of the pen, Like
- 20:56Speaker 4: I just I don't. I don't know where they find
- 20:59Speaker 4: that offense that is going to be the biggest thing.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I think that the first I wish I remember the
- 21:03Speaker 4: four stats, but they're the first team to make the
- 21:05Speaker 4: playoffs without somebody that hit over two hundred, without over
- 21:10Speaker 4: twenty five.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It was like two seventy twenty five homers, one hundred RBI's.
- 21:16Speaker 3: And something still it was it was a.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Crazy and and two hundred strikeouts. They don't have anybody
- 21:21Speaker 4: like that. But you know what the beauty of the
- 21:23Speaker 4: playoffs is is you're the Dodgers. Do not get caught
- 21:28Speaker 4: saving sho Heo Tani. If you think Showotani is your
- 21:31Speaker 4: best option, don't get caught saving him. That's all I
- 21:35Speaker 4: got to say. Because the Reds can throw out some
- 21:38Speaker 4: pitchers that can strike some dudes out, and they're throwing
- 21:41Speaker 4: him in Game one. You win Game one, all of
- 21:44Speaker 4: a sudden, now you're like, all right, well we could
- 21:47Speaker 4: still win two games. But our bullpen is kind of shaky.
- 21:51Speaker 4: And that's where I think the Reds could probably could
- 21:53Speaker 4: have a chance to take advantage of the Dodgers. Can
- 21:57Speaker 4: they build up enough of a pitch count for Blake
- 22:00Speaker 4: Snell in the first game, for Yamamoto in the second
- 22:03Speaker 4: game where they then have to make tough decisions who
- 22:06Speaker 4: comes into the bullpen, and the Reds can do it,
- 22:09Speaker 4: but the pitching needs to keep them in it because
- 22:11Speaker 4: they just don't see them getting more than two or
- 22:14Speaker 4: three runs against Blake Snell or Yamamoto, and.
- 22:19Speaker 1: It doesn't sound like they're necessarily going to do piggyback action.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I mean, Kershaw's not playing in this series. We already
- 22:24Speaker 1: know that maybe Emma Chien picks up some innings for them,
- 22:28Speaker 1: but otherwise they're gonna have to see who's hot and
- 22:31Speaker 1: who's not carrying it over from the regular season.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I don't think that they want to do a piggybally.
- 22:35Speaker 2: They've tried that in the past and hasn't worked. I
- 22:37Speaker 2: don't think that the piggyback is the way for them
- 22:39Speaker 2: to do it. I think they need to go to
- 22:40Speaker 2: the traditional Blake Snell give me six or seven, Yaalamoto,
- 22:43Speaker 2: give me six or seven. Show, Hey, give me six
- 22:45Speaker 2: or seven.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But then what last snow give me six or seven?
- 22:48Speaker 1: Then what does it look like?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Well, then you figure this them there. Messio obviously has
- 22:52Speaker 2: been their best option trying and you hope is fact
- 22:55Speaker 2: Tanner Scott figures it out because he gets an adrenaline spying.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I I'm just saying that's what they're looking like for
- 23:01Speaker 2: this series. Again, I don't know that it's going to
- 23:03Speaker 2: matter against the Reds, just because one through twenty six,
- 23:06Speaker 2: the talent there is a talent gap there.
- 23:08Speaker 3: And that's not a knock on the Reds guys. It
- 23:09Speaker 3: just is what it is.
- 23:11Speaker 2: But when you get to the next round, we've got
- 23:15Speaker 2: to play the Phillies. That's when it's going to be like, okay,
- 23:18Speaker 2: now what do we do?
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yep?
- 23:20Speaker 3: Obviously if they get there, yeah, I mean there's an if.
- 23:23Speaker 3: There still is an if it's a.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Best of three. We've seen a lot of upsets in
- 23:27Speaker 1: this first round, so just keep that in mind. Last
- 23:30Speaker 1: part here, just on the Dodgers side, did you think
- 23:32Speaker 1: Kershaw was gonna appear as a reliever though for them?
- 23:35Speaker 1: Pitched okay the other day, but I guess it's a
- 23:38Speaker 1: bounce back situation. So if he pitches once for an
- 23:40Speaker 1: inning or two, then he's not going to pitch again,
- 23:42Speaker 1: so you're only getting an inning or two and a
- 23:43Speaker 1: three gamer.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I don't know what it is. Kind of happy the
- 23:47Speaker 3: way he ended it.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You think it should just be a great farewell at
- 23:51Speaker 1: home then in Seattle yesterday and that's it. Okay.
- 23:55Speaker 4: I was so awesome how he ended it. But I
- 23:58Speaker 4: really thought he was going to be in the pan too.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Something had I don't know. We said it before our
- 24:03Speaker 4: show together like, I feel like, did he not recover
- 24:08Speaker 4: well because they made that decision. They're like, ah, right,
- 24:11Speaker 4: well you're gonna start then in this meaningless game to
- 24:14Speaker 4: end the season if you're not because he threw out
- 24:17Speaker 4: of the pen, and then it was like if you
- 24:19Speaker 4: have him in the pen, you can't take up a
- 24:21Speaker 4: spot in a pen, and he goes, I can't go
- 24:25Speaker 4: back to back or you need to throw me three
- 24:27Speaker 4: innings and then I'll give you I need three days rest.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Like I felt like that decision seemed like it was
- 24:34Speaker 4: made pretty quickly and maybe this is just a DS thing.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I don't know right things could change, or a wild
- 24:40Speaker 1: card because then DS, you've got a best of five,
- 24:42Speaker 1: so we'll see what happens.
- 24:43Speaker 2: There's definitely a bounce back thing. Yeah, and his age,
- 24:45Speaker 2: he was probably like I can't bounce back. Guys, you're
- 24:48Speaker 2: gonna need more than me.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Right, And they might need a lot of help depending on.
- 24:52Speaker 4: They have glass Now down there. Imagine Glass now coming
- 24:56Speaker 4: in to close the game for three innings.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Dude, Well, the Reds are gonna get on base and
- 25:02Speaker 2: just try to steal. That's that's the game.
- 25:03Speaker 4: That is true.
- 25:04Speaker 1: That is true. There was a famous game with Glass.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Now against Elu, I think he stole like four bases
- 25:08Speaker 1: off them or something.
- 25:09Speaker 2: If it gets on, it's just go yeah, it's like, no,
- 25:11Speaker 2: he's not evenna wait any time, Oh you're on li,
- 25:15Speaker 2: just just go. It's gonna be like just the third
- 25:17Speaker 2: base coach is gonna be like whenever you're ready.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Go yep, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be goodest. Hey,
- 25:25Speaker 1: we're back and the Astros are not back in October
- 25:28Speaker 1: for the first time since twenty sixteen, almost a decade
- 25:33Speaker 1: of Astro's playoff baseball and Astro's dominating the Al West.
- 25:37Speaker 1: We knew that wasn't going to happen in the last
- 25:39Speaker 1: week when the Mariners went on a run over the
- 25:41Speaker 1: last few weeks. But crats, Are you surprised that they crumbled,
- 25:45Speaker 1: especially against some competition that you think they could have handled,
- 25:48Speaker 1: or did you say, hey, this is one of the
- 25:50Speaker 1: only teams in baseball that really was missing superstars and
- 25:54Speaker 1: couldn't figure it out with what they had left the scraps?
- 25:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, they always prided themselves in having a
- 26:03Speaker 4: young corps that seemed like they played every single day.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Those guys got hurt. I mean, the guys that they
- 26:09Speaker 4: took from the Kyle Tucker trade. Cam Smith had a
- 26:13Speaker 4: good stretch of the season where he was good. He
- 26:15Speaker 4: started out rough and then it was really good, and
- 26:17Speaker 4: then it kind of you know, the season is long
- 26:20Speaker 4: when you have a young guy playing in those positions.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Parades missed the last part of the season and came back.
- 26:27Speaker 4: It wasn't one hundred percent healthy. They played the whole
- 26:29Speaker 4: season without your don But really, did the Astros just
- 26:32Speaker 4: put themselves in this situation. They could have resigned Bragman.
- 26:36Speaker 4: They do spend a lot of money. I'm not saying
- 26:38Speaker 4: they don't. They could have. They know what kind of
- 26:40Speaker 4: winner he was and is, and they could have kept
- 26:44Speaker 4: Tucker for one more year and got a draft pick.
- 26:47Speaker 4: They chose not to. It looked like it was gonna
- 26:49Speaker 4: work out for him, and it didn't. The Mariners caught
- 26:52Speaker 4: up to him.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Also, if they took care of more bas against Sacramento
- 26:57Speaker 1: and the Angels, the Tigers gave them a nice lane.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but it just wasn't meant to be this year
- 27:04Speaker 2: for the Astros. I mean, you lose, we just heck,
- 27:07Speaker 2: we just went through it with the Mets. That's look
- 27:09Speaker 2: at what the Astros lost, Hater their closer they're arrested
- 27:12Speaker 2: or Alvarez. Yeah, Parade's their their third baseman who they
- 27:16Speaker 2: were counting on. Jeremy Penyam is a significant chunk of time.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I mean their starters. Hunter Brown was great, from Berg,
- 27:23Speaker 2: was Fromberg.
- 27:24Speaker 1: He fell apart late for the most good ones.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And then he went crazy for a little while, right,
- 27:28Speaker 2: But I mean they lost Arraghetty, who they were counting on.
- 27:30Speaker 2: They lost a lot of guys they were counting on,
- 27:32Speaker 2: and that's not an excuse, but it was just time,
- 27:34Speaker 2: like this is why it's so hard to win in baseball.
- 27:36Speaker 1: And they still finished with eighty seven wins matched with
- 27:39Speaker 1: the Tigers. They just lost the tie breaker, so one
- 27:41Speaker 1: more win like Friday night they lost the two homer
- 27:44Speaker 1: trout game. If they win that game, they're in the
- 27:46Speaker 1: playoffs over the Tigers.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Big, big losses they tried to cover for. I mean,
- 27:51Speaker 2: I think they'll be back in it again next year,
- 27:53Speaker 2: or back in the race again next year.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I'm just surprised with all that they had a lane
- 27:57Speaker 1: one game in Sacto or one game against the Angels
- 28:00Speaker 1: here and they would have been in Let's preview the
- 28:04Speaker 1: Tigers and the Guardians who are going to play some
- 28:07Speaker 1: early action coming up in these wild card games. I
- 28:10Speaker 1: feel like they knew that was common. They're gotting to
- 28:16Speaker 1: one o'clock East Coast time game in the slot when
- 28:21Speaker 1: you have you know what A one, A three, A six,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and uh eight or nine? Yeah, so hey, this is
- 28:28Speaker 1: gonna be fun. The games that we've seen from these
- 28:30Speaker 1: two teams the last couple of weeks have been really good.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Game one school Ball against Williams. I'm assuming again we just.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Saw it, saw it and they did what you said.
- 28:38Speaker 2: The last couple of weeks in that matchup, they haven't
- 28:40Speaker 2: exactly beat Schoogle well, first when they just last them.
- 28:44Speaker 2: The second one they short, they small balled into death?
- 28:47Speaker 2: What do they I mean if listen, if I'm the Guardians,
- 28:49Speaker 2: I go into the saying, man, we rattled the best
- 28:51Speaker 2: pitcher in baseball by bunting and stealing and doing all
- 28:54Speaker 2: kinds of goofiness. Guess what first bat of the game,
- 28:56Speaker 2: Steven Kuangun.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I mean, maybe I think some of the other guys
- 29:02Speaker 1: should be bunting.
- 29:04Speaker 2: True, get quant on base havoc, That's what I'm saying.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal had fair territory, and he did all of
- 29:11Speaker 1: his previews, so check that out after our show if
- 29:13Speaker 1: you'd like. He said, this is one of the worst
- 29:16Speaker 1: offenses of all time. To make the postseason, right, you
- 29:20Speaker 1: have more postseason slots nowadays, that's part of it. But
- 29:23Speaker 1: their ranks in terms of offense are really really bad.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Now we look at ranks for the entire season. Things
- 29:30Speaker 1: do change, be better, yes, but that's where the Tigers
- 29:35Speaker 1: have an edge. Right, they should have a little bit
- 29:37Speaker 1: of a better line.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Talk about team that strikes out too much. I just
- 29:44Speaker 2: said the red strike out a lot. Look at the Tigers.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Tigers strike first against Kevin Williams, oh boy, because.
- 29:51Speaker 4: He throws a curveball. They can't hit a curveball, and
- 29:53Speaker 4: they're not gonna be hit in a day sunlight, when
- 29:55Speaker 4: the shadows start creeping in. It's gonna be the pillow
- 29:58Speaker 4: fight and the sponge Bob game. Whenever we play at
- 30:01Speaker 4: twelve o'clock game. In the minor leagues, there was always
- 30:05Speaker 4: a SpongeBob game because it's a bunch of kids there
- 30:07Speaker 4: and they were like always playing SpongeBob SquarePants song. And
- 30:12Speaker 4: these two teams aren't hitting like they aren't hitting, and
- 30:16Speaker 4: they have to face two legit pitchers. It just it doesn't.
- 30:22Speaker 4: It doesn't make for must see TV, except for the
- 30:25Speaker 4: fact that Terrek Scoogle's.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Gone pillow fight in the SpongeBob game.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yeah. But here's the thing, listen, that's good. The Guardians
- 30:34Speaker 2: have actually swung the battle up better they have. I mean,
- 30:37Speaker 2: you got to you gotta look at their numbers.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Lately. They've been a lot better. The Tigers are.
- 30:43Speaker 2: We all talk about the Mets. The Tigers are thinking
- 30:46Speaker 2: the Mets because they blew the largest lead of all
- 30:50Speaker 2: time to not win the division. Now, they got in
- 30:53Speaker 2: because of the extra wildcard, but they had a fifteen
- 30:57Speaker 2: and a half game lead over the Guardians and blew it.
- 31:00Speaker 2: They had like a ten game lead at the beginning
- 31:02Speaker 2: of September and lost It's they had the worst record
- 31:05Speaker 2: of all time in September of a team to make
- 31:07Speaker 2: the postseason. Like, they're not going in with any momentum.
- 31:10Speaker 2: They're momentum is all right. We have Trek Scubel and
- 31:12Speaker 2: then Casey Maiz and Jack Felaherty and a bullpen that's
- 31:15Speaker 2: been getting whacked around the yard for last month and
- 31:17Speaker 2: a half. The Guardians have all the momentum. We got
- 31:21Speaker 2: Austin Hedges up there doing all the kind of cheerleading
- 31:23Speaker 2: stuff on the rail. And I mean, Cleveland, show up.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Cleveland, show up for these three games.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Oh, they will show up.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I'm just saying please, because you guys can be great.
- 31:33Speaker 1: And show up. Detroit punted on the Sunday game for
- 31:36Speaker 1: Schooble to pitch in this series because maybe Scooble wins
- 31:39Speaker 1: on Sunday and then the series is at home. But
- 31:41Speaker 1: we did that question of the Week last week that
- 31:43Speaker 1: you brought up. You need Schooble school is he's the
- 31:47Speaker 1: most advantage player on a team in the playoffs. Now,
- 31:50Speaker 1: he's the one.
- 31:51Speaker 2: He's probably the well, I will say the most important,
- 31:53Speaker 2: but he's for his team. He's probably the most important
- 31:55Speaker 2: player on his team.
- 31:56Speaker 4: Yeah MVP. Wait, wait, shouldn't he get MVP votes? Then
- 32:01Speaker 4: if he's the most valuable player.
- 32:03Speaker 1: You should get I'm not gonna win MVP.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I know.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I mean the fans I'm talking. I'm not talking about
- 32:08Speaker 2: the players.
- 32:09Speaker 3: I'm talking about the fans.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Fans have to take a longer lunch break. It's a
- 32:17Speaker 4: lunchtime game.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Everybody can take off work for a one o'clock but
- 32:22Speaker 1: somebody's got to do it. Not every game is going
- 32:25Speaker 1: to be prime time, and if you keep advancing, you'll
- 32:27Speaker 1: eventually get the prime time Guardians took on the Yankees
- 32:30Speaker 1: last year. Then you get a little prime time prime time.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Then.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah. So the Tigers lost twelve of thirteen through the
- 32:37Speaker 1: middle of July, remember that tough stretch out of the
- 32:40Speaker 1: All Star break, and then eleven of twelve through the
- 32:43Speaker 1: middle of last week. I mean, those are some really,
- 32:46Speaker 1: really bad times. And meanwhile, the Guardians this month twenty
- 32:50Speaker 1: and seven, they're hot. Now, statistically, like I was talking
- 32:55Speaker 1: about with the offense, guess how many players with at
- 32:59Speaker 1: least twenty games this season have an above average offensive
- 33:03Speaker 1: performance for the year. That means over one hundred ops
- 33:05Speaker 1: plus one hundred Guess how many?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 33:09Speaker 3: Three?
- 33:09Speaker 1: Two?
- 33:10Speaker 4: That's it.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Only two only didn't make it.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I don't have the names, but I think, yeah, Ramirez
- 33:17Speaker 1: and in Kwan, Yeah, I think so. Did Quan finish
- 33:22Speaker 1: above it?
- 33:22Speaker 3: Who's the other one?
- 33:24Speaker 1: No, I don't. I only had the number, not the names.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I should have. Kuan finished at ninety six.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Who's the other one?
- 33:30Speaker 1: Probably Mansard is my guest, right Let me double check
- 33:33Speaker 1: real quick. Love doing stats on the fly here, but
- 33:35Speaker 1: I set myself up for that one. Yeah, Mansard. So
- 33:38Speaker 1: those are the two. That's it. Everybody else The winner
- 33:43Speaker 1: be interesting winter Faces.
- 33:45Speaker 2: The Mariners winters got to travel to Seattle, which is
- 33:49Speaker 2: going to be unbelievable atmosphere.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Who do you think wins this? Who do you do
- 33:52Speaker 1: you think that the Guardians had the edge because of
- 33:54Speaker 1: what they do.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Think in my head, in my everything in my heart
- 33:57Speaker 2: is the Tigers should win this series, just because if
- 34:00Speaker 2: you look at all the stats and everything, but then
- 34:03Speaker 2: just you go back to they just played each other
- 34:05Speaker 2: twice and the Guardians win I think five out of six, and.
- 34:08Speaker 1: The playoff worthy games.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Playoff games, the Guardians won five out of six. The
- 34:11Speaker 2: Guardians beat him last year. Again, everything says the Tigers
- 34:16Speaker 2: should win. But there's also a big part of my
- 34:19Speaker 2: heart that's like the Guardians are gonna win because they
- 34:21Speaker 2: just don't want to win.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I also just think for me, Kratz, my head
- 34:25Speaker 1: thinks Guardians, which is why I'll probably go with Tigers,
- 34:29Speaker 1: because that's just how these kind of wildcard matchups go,
- 34:31Speaker 1: where you're like, Tigers have no momentum, they haven't beat Cleveland,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and do you really think they're gonna keep losing schoobl games?
- 34:37Speaker 1: What They've lost like three or four of his last start.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I'm like, eventually he's just going to have one where
- 34:42Speaker 1: it's like there's no duck snorts and he pitches seven
- 34:45Speaker 1: or eight shutty and he gets a homer or two
- 34:48Speaker 1: and then they're up one zero in the series and
- 34:49Speaker 1: they got to win one more.
- 34:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's kind of dominated the Guardians. I know
- 34:55Speaker 4: they've beaten them the last two times. I'm trying to
- 34:58Speaker 4: think the other time, the third start this year against them,
- 35:02Speaker 4: You think that first start, I mean, he's gone thirteen strikeouts,
- 35:05Speaker 4: eight strikeouts, nine strikeouts, ten strikeouts against them. To me,
- 35:10Speaker 4: I think, and I guess I'm putting too much weight
- 35:12Speaker 4: on the first game. I'm thinking the Tigers take the series.
- 35:16Speaker 4: I really, I really think that. I think there's somebody
- 35:19Speaker 4: on their offense is gonna step up, or the matchup
- 35:23Speaker 4: is favorable to a Tigers hitter, like a like a
- 35:26Speaker 4: Kerry Carpenter, like a like a Parker Meadows, because they
- 35:31Speaker 4: can't just keep matching up and winning those battles. If
- 35:34Speaker 4: you're the Guardians, they have the Yeah, I know they
- 35:39Speaker 4: have message.
- 35:41Speaker 1: He's like that was that his big thing over fresh season?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Fresh season, we.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Have to say that. Every team says that. That gets
- 35:49Speaker 2: in kind of back doors. They're winning. Oh it's a
- 35:51Speaker 2: new season, let's go guys. The teams that are hot
- 35:54Speaker 2: on the stretch, the guardians are like, oh, it's a
- 35:56Speaker 2: new season. They're like, let's keep it going.
- 35:58Speaker 1: But the rare let's keep me going, dude. Two years ago,
- 36:02Speaker 1: the Rangers had a bad last week and then that
- 36:05Speaker 1: made them have to not win the division and go
- 36:07Speaker 1: to Tampa Bay and we're like, oh, they're probably gonna
- 36:09Speaker 1: do nothing. And then they got hot as hell. Remember
- 36:13Speaker 1: they were not hot, No, they kind of fell in,
- 36:17Speaker 1: and then they won the World Series. I'm not saying
- 36:19Speaker 1: that's happening here. I'm just saying I don't buy a
- 36:21Speaker 1: lot of momentum. Maybe we'll do a momentum momentum in October. Yes,
- 36:26Speaker 1: momentum from regular season. I think that's a different season.
- 36:29Speaker 1: That's me and there's some research to back that up,
- 36:31Speaker 1: which we can talk about tomorrow.
- 36:33Speaker 4: I talked to somebody with the Tigers and they said
- 36:37Speaker 4: I truly had one hundred percent belief that we were
- 36:41Speaker 4: going to get in until the Nacho Alvarez game. Then
- 36:45Speaker 4: I thought we were cursed, is exactly. I just went
- 36:48Speaker 4: back and read his text and he was like, I
- 36:53Speaker 4: thought the Nacho Alvarez game was cursed if you're not
- 36:55Speaker 4: a Tigers fan. Nacho Alvarez had zero home runs on
- 36:59Speaker 4: the season. He hit two against them, and it looked
- 37:02Speaker 4: like that was the game that was going to knock
- 37:04Speaker 4: the Tigers out of it, and it was like just
- 37:06Speaker 4: a bad stretch. So they're being honest. They're a real
- 37:10Speaker 4: team and it's played by human beings the Tigers. I
- 37:16Speaker 4: think the Tigers on paper are a better team. That's it.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Congrats to the Blue Jays, first Al East crown since
- 37:23Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. We'll sprinkle in some Blue Jays talking this
- 37:25Speaker 1: next segment too, but we'll also preview the Red Sox
- 37:28Speaker 1: and the Yankees. It was a fun game to watch yesterday.
- 37:31Speaker 1: The city knew what was at stake. That's the thing is,
- 37:34Speaker 1: for all their games in the last week and a
- 37:36Speaker 1: half or so, the city knew what was at stake, right, like,
- 37:40Speaker 1: we need to take a division. They've also seen a
- 37:42Speaker 1: lot of heartbreak crats. They've lost three wild card rounds
- 37:46Speaker 1: in a row. They're like, we need to avoid this
- 37:49Speaker 1: best out of three crap and move on, and they did.
- 37:54Speaker 4: We did. It wasn't just the fans. I mean to
- 37:56Speaker 4: go back to what George Springers said, Oh might as
- 37:58Speaker 4: well just give the give the American League East to
- 38:00Speaker 4: the Yankees. And I think the last game, the last
- 38:05Speaker 4: series here, it truly looked like they were like, screw
- 38:09Speaker 4: who's behind us, We're beating the team in front of us,
- 38:13Speaker 4: and they put their best foot forward. They came out
- 38:17Speaker 4: and they banged. In the last game, they came out
- 38:21Speaker 4: and they hit home runs. A team that doesn't hit
- 38:23Speaker 4: home runs actually hit home runs. And so I think
- 38:26Speaker 4: it's something that it almost seemed like it was a
- 38:28Speaker 4: different shift of like, oh no, what's gonna go wrong
- 38:31Speaker 4: looking or instead all right, how are we going to
- 38:34Speaker 4: win this game? Who's gonna step up? What's the next spot?
- 38:38Speaker 1: They lost six of seven, and then they finished the
- 38:41Speaker 1: year winning four in a row, and they had to
- 38:42Speaker 1: win all four of those games, as the Yankees won
- 38:44Speaker 1: eight in a row to end the year. Good for them,
- 38:47Speaker 1: Good for.
- 38:47Speaker 2: The Blue Jays, yea, happy for the Blue Jays, Happy
- 38:49Speaker 2: for John Schneider, what do you say the sky is
- 38:52Speaker 2: not effing falling. I told you all this Skuy is
- 38:54Speaker 2: not effing falling. Right, he was right. But also at
- 38:56Speaker 2: the same time, now they get a nice break. They
- 38:58Speaker 2: used Golsman because they wanted to win the division. They
- 39:01Speaker 2: get the nice break, and here they are. They're set up.
- 39:03Speaker 2: They can set their pitching up, they can set up
- 39:05Speaker 2: how they want to play, and they get a nice break.
- 39:07Speaker 2: And trust me, teams that say they don't want the
- 39:09Speaker 2: break are lying because everybody wants his nice break. Aaron
- 39:12Speaker 2: Boom said it, yeah, we want the break. We want
- 39:14Speaker 2: to win the division and get the break absolutely, because
- 39:15Speaker 2: he gives you a chance to set everything up the win,
- 39:18Speaker 2: and it doesn't guarantee you're gonna win, but it helps you.
- 39:21Speaker 1: For me, forget about multi inning guy. Treya Savage has
- 39:24Speaker 1: to be starting games for me. He did another five innings,
- 39:27Speaker 1: shut out five k's. I want him in the rotation.
- 39:30Speaker 1: He should be in the top three for me, right,
- 39:34Speaker 1: gossmand him sureser am I missing someone. Brios is hurt.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Bassett is still hurt. As far as I know, they're
- 39:40Speaker 1: still figuring out what his deal is. It's those three.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Oh, and Bieber, that's her four and.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Lower is a longo.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think sure, just starts in the first series.
- 39:51Speaker 1: In the DS. I don't know, So go Bieber. You
- 39:57Speaker 1: don't get this savage right?
- 40:00Speaker 3: It all has the extra day off the game.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Oh, we'll get into that, dude. All right, we got
- 40:09Speaker 1: a few minutes to get to the Padres and the Cubs.
- 40:12Speaker 1: And this just in for FT fans. Padres Cubs postgame
- 40:17Speaker 1: show live on the FT YouTube channel. So we're looking
- 40:20Speaker 1: forward to that one. That game starts exactly when FT
- 40:22Speaker 1: ends on Tuesday, three o'clock Eastern time, and then should
- 40:26Speaker 1: end whatever five point thirty ish, depending on how things go.
- 40:29Speaker 1: So we'll have a postgame show. Kate Horton out for
- 40:32Speaker 1: this series A J. I cannot emphasize how much of
- 40:35Speaker 1: a blow that is to the Cubs. Do you feel
- 40:37Speaker 1: the same way?
- 40:38Speaker 2: Well, they showed us pitching first, right, yeah, and then
- 40:40Speaker 2: boyd I'm guessing did they lay it out and then
- 40:44Speaker 2: tie on Game three.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Or bullpen tie on like ty on plus bullpen action
- 40:50Speaker 1: shor at least, Kate.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Horton has been one of the best pitchers in the
- 40:53Speaker 2: National League in the second half of the season. If
- 40:54Speaker 2: you don't know his numbers, check him out before he
- 40:56Speaker 2: heard his ribs. Maybe remember when he pitched the game,
- 40:58Speaker 2: we said, why do only go three? Well, apparently he
- 41:02Speaker 2: had a broken rib. We didn't know that. We thought
- 41:03Speaker 2: they were just saving him. But he had broken ribs.
- 41:05Speaker 2: And listen, he was one of the best pitchers in
- 41:07Speaker 2: the second half in all of baseball. So, yes, this
- 41:10Speaker 2: is a big blow for them.
- 41:11Speaker 1: He would have started Game one.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because the Vinagha hasn't been great and Boyd
- 41:16Speaker 2: hasn't been great in the second half either.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Do you know how it happened? He was sick and
- 41:21Speaker 1: then it was from like a cough for a sneeze
- 41:23Speaker 1: or something like that, and then it messed up the rib.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, this kid has been electric in the
- 41:28Speaker 1: second half of this good. He's been the best rookie
- 41:31Speaker 1: starting pitcher or best rookie pitcher in the National League.
- 41:34Speaker 1: But krats, they won't have them. Do you think that
- 41:37Speaker 1: affects things enough to tilt the way you look at
- 41:39Speaker 1: this series?
- 41:40Speaker 4: Yes, I mean I thought the Padres are gonna win
- 41:43Speaker 4: it anyway. I just think it would have been much tougher.
- 41:46Speaker 4: You face a guy like that early, especially a guy
- 41:48Speaker 4: he doesn't strike out a ton of batters, and the
- 41:52Speaker 4: Padres don't strike out. To me, that when those two
- 41:55Speaker 4: things match up, that's when the advantage goes to the
- 41:59Speaker 4: pitcher in my opinion, because when you face a team
- 42:03Speaker 4: that doesn't strike out much and you have a guy
- 42:04Speaker 4: that's relying on off or I mean on strikeouts, they
- 42:08Speaker 4: just put the ball in play and that pitcher can't,
- 42:10Speaker 4: like play his game. I thought that was going to
- 42:12Speaker 4: be a really tough matchup, and I thought he was
- 42:14Speaker 4: going to go Game one and shout that gives him
- 42:17Speaker 4: a different look, even though it's from the left side
- 42:18Speaker 4: and they hit the lefties. Well, I thought the Padres
- 42:22Speaker 4: have a slight advantage because of that bullpen shortening games.
- 42:26Speaker 4: This definitely gives them a major advantage.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Padres don't hit lefties. I thought.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Padres don't hit left hit lefties?
- 42:35Speaker 2: Did I say they do hit lefties? I don't hit
- 42:38Speaker 2: the Padres don't hit lefties. That's the one thing they
- 42:40Speaker 2: do have going for him is they have him ana and.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Void right, so you try and kryptonite them with that.
- 42:46Speaker 4: What did I do? Did I say they do hit lefties?
- 42:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 42:53Speaker 1: I was reading about won while you guys were chatting.
- 42:56Speaker 3: So they don't hit the Padres don't hit lefties.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Right and so, by the way, because I was looking
- 43:01Speaker 1: at one of our North Side Territory guys, Patrick Mooney
- 43:04Speaker 1: said he's shut down for the foreseeable future with the
- 43:08Speaker 1: fractured rib.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know when he's going to be back.
- 43:11Speaker 1: You gotta be careful too.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Jason Hayward has the highest batting average for the Padres
- 43:14Speaker 2: verse lefties this year. Where do he at hey hit
- 43:19Speaker 2: two forty four the six ninety ops Verus lefties this year.
- 43:23Speaker 1: They're a huge home road split team this year, the
- 43:26Speaker 1: Padres gigantic.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Yes, well the actually the ops and stuff is very similar.
- 43:32Speaker 1: But the wins.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Yeah, the record there.
- 43:35Speaker 2: They're thirty eight and forty three on the road, fifty
- 43:37Speaker 2: twenty nine at home.
- 43:39Speaker 4: That's more of what Pecho is. Pecko's I understand, freaking
- 43:45Speaker 4: their place.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a Paveta Darvish king. Is that what
- 43:52Speaker 3: they're doing.
- 43:53Speaker 1: It's definitely Paveta. Games told us the other day, no cease, cease. Well,
- 44:04Speaker 1: look they might have said it, they haven't said it yet. No, Okay,
- 44:07Speaker 1: so we'll see, Hey, we just learned from Gabrielle Star
- 44:21Speaker 1: does a great job covering the Red Sox that Lucas
- 44:24Speaker 1: Giolito will not be on the wildcard roster. He's got
- 44:27Speaker 1: an elbow issue, so he's going to see a doctor
- 44:29Speaker 1: who performed surgery on him in March twenty twenty four
- 44:32Speaker 1: when he missed a year.
- 44:36Speaker 4: I've hurt.
- 44:39Speaker 2: He's not one of their best. So who's going to
- 44:40Speaker 2: be the third starter because he was going to be
- 44:43Speaker 2: the third guy? Beyo bullpen bullpen for three for Game
- 44:48Speaker 2: three in a wildcard.
- 44:49Speaker 1: If it gets her, I mean you can technically star
- 44:51Speaker 1: pressure on Crochet. Yeah, you can start totally or early,
- 44:55Speaker 1: or I would start totally without spending a lot of
- 44:58Speaker 1: time on the research yet to see everything totally at
- 45:02Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium. It's not going to give a crap no.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Two things I want to get to you. One is
- 45:09Speaker 1: run differential. Now that the season's over, I would like
- 45:12Speaker 1: to bring up how fucking stupid run differential is. Cleveland
- 45:17Speaker 1: won the divisions minus six Kansas City didn't make the
- 45:22Speaker 1: playoffs plus fourteen. Toronto won the division plus seventy seven
- 45:28Speaker 1: second place Yankees plus one sixty four third place Boston
- 45:31Speaker 1: plus one ten. Remember the other day when Toronto lost
- 45:34Speaker 1: twenty to one, and then give a shit, that's twenty
- 45:37Speaker 1: or nineteen runs against their run differential? Run differential is
- 45:40Speaker 1: so stupid. What does it tell you? This team's probably good,
- 45:45Speaker 1: this team's probably not to tell you, I think wars
- 45:48Speaker 1: at least a little better.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Except you can't if you No one can figure out
- 45:50Speaker 2: how it's calculated. And there's two different ones, so choose
- 45:52Speaker 2: your one. But other than that, it's a great step.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Do you agree we should rely on everything for do
- 45:57Speaker 2: you agree run differentially super differential? It gives you a
- 46:00Speaker 2: somewhat of a broad outline of much like war gives
- 46:03Speaker 2: you a broad outline of who's good. By the way,
- 46:04Speaker 2: do you know who led the National League in War
- 46:06Speaker 2: this year?
- 46:09Speaker 1: Perdomo?
- 46:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 46:10Speaker 1: For fangrafts. Is that where you're going off of?
- 46:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 46:12Speaker 1: Which one?
- 46:13Speaker 2: I don't know one of them? Perdomo. You could have
- 46:16Speaker 2: bet a lot of people that don't know baseball a
- 46:18Speaker 2: lot of money that he would have led the league
- 46:20Speaker 2: in War, the National League over.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Right, show he wasn't even second in the National League,
- 46:26Speaker 1: you know, second? No Trey Turner, who just came back,
- 46:30Speaker 1: by the way, for the Phillies won the batting title. Yeah,
- 46:33Speaker 1: because we didn't get to talk about the Phillies much.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I don't no l eight innings, So Phillies didn't got
- 46:37Speaker 1: much attention last few years.
- 46:39Speaker 2: But Phillies are a problem.
- 46:40Speaker 1: They're a problem. Dodgers' territory is going to try and
- 46:44Speaker 1: figure out the bullpen situation, so they need thirty minutes
- 46:49Speaker 1: for that. Crafts hats.
