- 0:00Coming up... If Waverly Hills came a -knockin'
- 0:32and hired us, paid us money to spend a year there,
- 0:35we'd be like, hell yeah. A year? At Waverly?
- 0:39Who would turn that down? We typically only really
- 0:43investigate for a night. Every now and then we've
- 0:46done like a two -night investigation or something
- 0:48like Piercini we go back to multiple times to
- 0:51create a project, but never have we done a consecutive,
- 0:55like, full... uh investigation longer than like
- 0:5924 hours straight you know uh so so i it made
- 1:05me wonder all these people talk and there's some
- 1:07great movies out there like the haunting lodge
- 1:10where they got you know literally camped out
- 1:13at this haunted lodge and investigated there
- 1:15for i think two weeks straight we all agree we
- 1:20would want to do that and it would be cool but
- 1:27Would it have a purpose? I'll explain my thought
- 1:34process here, okay? We live in a haunted apartment.
- 1:40We know, Ang, that we, you know, living here,
- 1:44paranormal activity doesn't happen, like, 85
- 1:47-95 % of the time. Like, nothing happens. Once
- 1:50a month, it seems, like... The haunted objects,
- 1:53the activity is like, hey, I'm still here. And
- 1:56then there's a flurry of activity. Then it kind
- 1:57of quiets down. Yeah, yeah. It's like, I'm still
- 1:59here. Pay attention to me once in a while. Exactly.
- 2:02But like 85, 90 % of the time, nothing happens.
- 2:04And a lot of people we know that live in haunted
- 2:06places agree. Activity is rare, but when it happens,
- 2:10it seems to happen in a flurry. We see haunted
- 2:12locations like Simpson Hospital. They post clips
- 2:15all the time. But... activity isn't happening
- 2:1824 7 it's like you go on any haunted location
- 2:21their pages they don't have just because they
- 2:25live there or work there or run the page they
- 2:28don't have you know 24 7 worth of content they
- 2:32have just as much content as anyone else that
- 2:34investigates there for a night them being there
- 2:36the whole week surrounding their one isolated
- 2:39investigation doesn't really make a difference
- 2:40so i ponder the question if this is how it seems
- 2:44to be realistically for people Is there a difference
- 2:47or would there actually be a benefit? What are
- 2:51the benefits of investigating somewhere if we
- 2:54could for, let's say, a week straight? Would
- 2:57the activity be any different or at an increased
- 3:00volume than if we were there for just an hour,
- 3:05two hours? I think it's a great question to think
- 3:10about. Welcome to our podcast, where we take
- 3:12deep dives looking at various topics through
- 3:14a paranormal lens. I mean, you got pros and cons
- 3:20for both. My first thought being, yeah, it would
- 3:26be great to stay in a location for a full week
- 3:29and like... do recordings and do videos and try
- 3:34to capture stuff because i feel like i mean we've
- 3:36talked about um residual hauntings being being
- 3:41more about like timing and being in the right
- 3:43place at the right time and if you're there the
- 3:45whole time then it'll you're more likely to catch
- 3:47something but my thought is also who is going
- 3:51to listen to and watch all of those recordings
- 3:54because it sure as heck ain't gonna be me nope
- 3:57um i have the attention span of a gerbil when
- 4:00it comes to reviewing evidence um so good point
- 4:06especially when you multiply it by like multiple
- 4:08angles and recordings that's you know one week
- 4:13turns into four weeks worth of content because
- 4:15you have four cameras yeah exactly so That's
- 4:21also one of my big brain things that it's like,
- 4:24maybe we don't need to spend a week in a location
- 4:28because who's going to review that? I just don't
- 4:33have the attention to be able to. Because with
- 4:36going over evidence or going over recordings
- 4:41and videos, it's like you have to be attentive
- 4:43because you blink and you miss it. Or you zone
- 4:48out for a second, you miss it. And so you can't
- 4:52just have something going on in the background
- 4:54or reading something while you're listening to
- 4:57it. You have to be in the moment listening and
- 5:00watching. I'm a person who multitasks. I can't
- 5:04multitask and go over evidence. Having to sit
- 5:08down and purposely pay attention to one thing
- 5:11kills me. I love doing stuff while I watch TV.
- 5:17You can't listen to an EVP recording while watching
- 5:20TV. I will say editing helps. If we film something
- 5:26and it's like the climax of the investigation,
- 5:29I know there's going to be stuff in that footage
- 5:32and I'm editing it. I don't need to review it
- 5:35and then edit it later. Editing serves as the
- 5:37reviewing. But you're not using a week's worth
- 5:42of static, just a camera in a room hoping to
- 5:45catch something. So you wouldn't be editing all
- 5:49that. And I think that would be the thing with
- 5:51staying in a location for a long period of time
- 5:55is it is going to be 98 % static. Like you're
- 6:01like, like we've said, you're, you're going to
- 6:04have your, it's, it's the right place at the
- 6:06right time. And who's to say that that week you
- 6:09stay there is going to be the right time. Well,
- 6:13I think you hit the nail on the head. I think
- 6:16I said that right this time. All investigations
- 6:20have some degree of right place at the right
- 6:23time. How many investigations have we gone on
- 6:26where, you know, it's a famous place, they're
- 6:29booked pretty much every night. The investigation
- 6:31team that came in the night before had a bunch
- 6:34of stuff happen. We get all excited and nothing
- 6:35happens for us. In the span of one night difference,
- 6:39even if... you know, we're asking the same questions
- 6:42and whatnot, could have an impact. So every investigation
- 6:46we do, if we investigate for an hour, if we investigate
- 6:50for two hours, if we investigate for a week straight,
- 6:53it's all just hoping that we're there when the
- 6:58activity happens. Which raises a question. Side
- 7:03note, would the activity happen without us? Sounds
- 7:07like it, right? I mean, if it's entirely possible,
- 7:11I mean, especially residual energy is going to
- 7:14happen whether or not you're there. Like, yeah,
- 7:18if it's the right place at the right time thing,
- 7:20that's making me think that regardless of those
- 7:22people there or not, the activity is going to
- 7:25happen when it happens. It's just a matter of.
- 7:27Are there people to document it to make it? It's
- 7:32like if a tree falls in the woods and nobody's
- 7:36around to see or hear it, does it still make
- 7:38a sound? Like it's the exact same conundrum.
- 7:43Yeah. So I think one of the like a really good
- 7:49example of this sort of situation that we're
- 7:51talking about is thinking back to the state house,
- 7:55which is one of our. more recent larger investigations
- 7:59because we were there from what was it 6 p .m
- 8:03until 10 a .m 10 a .m and that's a that's a long
- 8:09chunk of time like a lot of like good amount
- 8:13like a lot of places that host these events that
- 8:17you can uh have a private investigation or stay
- 8:20at for an extended period of time it's mostly
- 8:23like Max eight hours. Yeah, no, no, don't mistake.
- 8:27Throw you out to the wolves at five in the morning.
- 8:31Go buy a hotel because you already spent a thousand
- 8:34dollars to reserve this place and we won't let
- 8:36you stay here for two more fucking nights. So
- 8:38stupid. yeah so stupid anyways so we were there
- 8:42for a really long chunk of time and our tour
- 8:45guide when we got there was had showed us like
- 8:48a lot of really cool evidence the one that i'm
- 8:51calling back to is the actual shadow figure hand
- 8:55that he caught in the basement reaching towards
- 8:57the rem pod that was like less of a shadow figure
- 9:02and more of an actual solid hand that you could
- 9:04see it was the coolest evidence capture i've
- 9:07ever seen It hyped us up. We're like, okay, there's
- 9:09a lot of stuff that happens here. And we didn't
- 9:12have a lot that happened on this investigation.
- 9:15It's not saying it's not haunted. Absolutely
- 9:18not. But even though we were there for a long
- 9:21time. It seemed like more than any other place
- 9:24we've ever investigated. It seemed very residual.
- 9:27We've talked about this many times. The only
- 9:30thing that was a direct response was when you
- 9:34asked, can you mimic this? yeah and we've talked
- 9:37at length about how we think mimics are like
- 9:40residual energy and whatnot but yeah that's a
- 9:43different episode go listen to whatever what
- 9:48episode uh let's see here mimics go listen to
- 9:53episode 42 okay back to this topic um what we
- 9:57were saying oh yeah so it was very residual it
- 10:00was very residual and um It was very much the
- 10:04case of there was a flurry of activity at one
- 10:06point, but again, if we were there for only an
- 10:12hour, we still would have encountered that flurry
- 10:15of activity. Now, if we were there for a week,
- 10:18there would have possibly been multiple flurries
- 10:22of activity and multiple instances of activity,
- 10:25right? But it won't be nonstop. I'm also reminded
- 10:30of another experience we've talked about here.
- 10:32um at madison seminary we were there for like
- 10:3624 hours straight yeah and it was right at the
- 10:39end as we were packing up that and this was like
- 10:439 10 in the morning that we heard a disembodied
- 10:45voice bellowing throughout the whole like reverb
- 10:49echo everything in in the building i'm here in
- 10:53the prism we weren't filming we weren't recording
- 10:55it was at the very end so if you are there for
- 10:58a week there's no way that you would be on your
- 11:02game recording being in an investigative mindset
- 11:0524 7 for a week straight like this is not we
- 11:09all fizzle out we do what's like an ideal period
- 11:14of investigating of like max um attentiveness
- 11:18and no like straying from the mission so to speak
- 11:22like what's our like ideal time of like if we
- 11:25go in we'll be focused for x amount of time guaranteed
- 11:28because every even nighttime investigation like
- 11:31the state house we took a couple brain breaks
- 11:33a couple naps and stuff i'm gonna say like three
- 11:36hours yeah yeah it takes a half second to get
- 11:41in that headspace you know it does It takes a
- 11:45hot minute to get in the headspace, and then
- 11:48you get in the headspace, and then you start
- 11:50getting tired, and then we'll play a game, and
- 11:53that rejuvenizes us, and we get going. But then
- 11:56sometimes that burst of energy from us lasts
- 11:59maybe an hour. I feel like we're old people sometimes,
- 12:06because it's like, man, we can't do all -nighters.
- 12:10We do. But we can. We can. We can. But man, we're
- 12:14so tired by the end of it. Or at least I am.
- 12:18No, I am too. It's not like we were saying we
- 12:22don't know what people are talking about really
- 12:24when they say paranormal hangovers, but it's
- 12:27really just, you know, you're very tired. Yeah,
- 12:30when people say paranormal hangovers, I'm pretty,
- 12:32like, I don't know. Like, how do you get weirdly
- 12:36affected by ghost activity? I don't know. I feel
- 12:39like it's just lack of sleep. Well, I've been
- 12:42so tired I hallucinate stuff. We've all been
- 12:45there. What have you hallucinated? Oh, there
- 12:50was one time we were driving back. I wasn't driving.
- 12:52I was a passenger from an investigation. At like
- 12:566 in the morning after essentially pulling an
- 12:59all -nighter. And I was seeing people on the
- 13:03side of the road waving that weren't there. Did
- 13:10you sleep? I did after that, yeah. No, he's been
- 13:16awake ever since Angela. No, but going back,
- 13:23like, if three hours is our peak, really we can
- 13:26think of any investigation as, or any ideal investigation,
- 13:30if it's a night, if it's, again, a week, doesn't
- 13:34matter the length. For us, Any duration would
- 13:39just be a series of three -hour intervals. We'd
- 13:42be going at it for three hours, taking a break,
- 13:45going at it for three hours, taking a break.
- 13:47So we are essentially viewing or framing investigations
- 13:52as setting up three -hour windows for activity
- 13:56to happen. Is this a matter of, is this a three
- 14:01-hour window? the right window and we've we've
- 14:04been on so many investigations too where we say
- 14:06it's the most haunted place ever then one of
- 14:08our friends go and they don't experience anything
- 14:10but like what the heck are you talking about
- 14:12like weirdo yeah but but real investigators know
- 14:15that even the most haunted places are not 24
- 14:207 so i mean if we had all the time and money
- 14:24in the world to be able to you know spend a month
- 14:27at one of these places it would just be providing
- 14:30more opportunities to be there when it happens
- 14:34i think as opposed to oh my god we're gonna have
- 14:39so many experiences not necessarily are you gonna
- 14:42be is are you opening that window at the right
- 14:46time i feel like it's also just like it would
- 14:51be a vibe to go to a place and stay there for
- 14:53multiple days it's like you're camping out in
- 14:56a haunted place like think how cool that would
- 15:01be oh 100 this is not a topic about like what
- 15:04do we do it 100 we drop everything no i'm just
- 15:08saying like my my thing is like is it worth it
- 15:11and my my my mind is like oh 100 oh yeah yeah
- 15:15imagine the experiences we would have yeah yeah
- 15:18it's 100 worth it if we're saying from a paranormal
- 15:21perspective what would it be would you be having
- 15:24more experiences just because you're there longer
- 15:28I mean, in theory, yes. But also at the same
- 15:32time, not necessarily true. Well, if we're making
- 15:37a film, let's say about... Let's just use Statehouse
- 15:41again. We did. We made a short film called Beware
- 15:45the Haunted Bathtubs. It's streaming on Paraflux
- 15:47right now. You can go watch it. We filmed it
- 15:49at the Statehouse. Best film in the world, people.
- 15:51Best film. That's only 10 minutes long. Good
- 15:54for gerbil attention spanners. Yeah. Good for
- 15:58the people who can't sit through and look through
- 16:01evidence. Yes, it's only 10 minutes. You can't
- 16:04really miss it. But let's say we went to the
- 16:07state house and we investigated there for a week
- 16:09straight. And would the film that we made really
- 16:18be any different? I mean, maybe this isn't the
- 16:21best example because we made a 10 minute short
- 16:23film, but let's say we were going and we're going
- 16:26to make like a half hour short, no matter what.
- 16:28If it's going to be a half hour, no matter what
- 16:31happens, a lot, a little, it's going to be a
- 16:33half hour. Would us being there for a week versus
- 16:37a night versus two nights versus two hours, would
- 16:41it make a better film? Just based on activity,
- 16:43just based on not, I mean, obviously if you have
- 16:45all the time in the world, you can get some really
- 16:46cool shots and stuff. That's not what I'm talking
- 16:48about. Talking about just based on the activity.
- 16:51I don't know, man. We might be able to get, like,
- 16:55put in a few extra things of really cool activity
- 16:58that might have happened, but, like, in the big
- 17:01scheme of things, it's not going to add, like,
- 17:03an hour, you know? It might add on a few minutes
- 17:06of things that we captured, but nothing extraordinary.
- 17:12And it's probably going to be very basic captures.
- 17:16I think the... bigger question is here is so
- 17:22we're talking a lot about capturing evidence
- 17:24what about just experiencing stuff in general
- 17:29like like i think that's a big thing too because
- 17:33like a lot of the things we do like not when
- 17:36we go on these big investigations and the goal
- 17:38is to make some sort of documentary film short
- 17:42film we do a lot of investigations where we don't
- 17:46record, like maybe we'll do some audio recordings
- 17:49or short little videos on our phones, but our
- 17:51purpose there is not to record stuff. It's just
- 17:53to have the experiences. Yeah. So I feel like
- 17:58putting it in the mind mindset of, Oh, if we're
- 18:02trying to just make a 30 minute film, like it
- 18:05doesn't really matter. Like, are we going to
- 18:08have more experiences or not? Like. it's or are
- 18:13we going to capture more stuff or not like it's
- 18:17two different things so i yeah that's a good
- 18:21point and we're not evidence people we none of
- 18:24what we do hinges on evidence i just my answer
- 18:27to that would be even if we had more experiences
- 18:31it would just be a matter of different experiences
- 18:34the film would be the same it's just a matter
- 18:36of when you're there for a night you're gonna
- 18:38have your one or two experiences and that's like
- 18:40you're forced to work with that if you're there
- 18:43for a week you might have three maybe four experiences
- 18:45you have more options profound experiences it
- 18:50could be a profound experience yeah there could
- 18:52be a profound it could just be equal though and
- 18:54you just swap one in for another if you're making
- 18:57a film or something i just think you regardless
- 19:01you're just providing more opportunities for
- 19:03that to happen and like angela said it would
- 19:05be a good experience as it's like not paranormal
- 19:07experience it's like an amazing experience soaking
- 19:11it all in documenting the place really understanding
- 19:15how it feels to be there for an extended you'd
- 19:17essentially be living there yeah just be there
- 19:20and existing and being with the people you love
- 19:23hopefully and yeah just living enjoying life
- 19:28at a really cool location oh that's kind of sentimental
- 19:35i don't know i don't know do you have anything
- 19:37else to add to this because i was just thinking
- 19:39like it would be a great experience from a paranormal
- 19:43perspective i don't think it would really add
- 19:45much to any potential uh paranormal strictly
- 19:50related encounters we have or that we're able
- 19:53to document but it would be an all -around amazing
- 19:56experience and i'm just denying that yeah okay
- 19:59i got a question yeah If we did have the opportunity
- 20:02to stay at any haunted location for a whole week,
- 20:07what would you guys choose? Honestly, haven't
- 20:16been there. Would love to go there and investigate.
- 20:20And I think it would be the perfect place to
- 20:22stay for like a whole week. Would be Billy Creek.
- 20:26Ooh, dude, that place be perfect because it's
- 20:30like a village. It's a whole village. So like
- 20:33you really do need that amount of time to actually
- 20:36investigate the whole place. You could probably
- 20:39spend a night in two buildings each or something.
- 20:43That's so funny because my mind went in the complete
- 20:45opposite direction. Oh, really? If we spend a
- 20:49week somewhere, it's got to be like a small place
- 20:51like a house so we can really just focus on every
- 20:54spot and not miss anything for the whole week.
- 20:56See, that's my thinking. If you go to Billy Creek
- 20:59or really any haunted village that has multiple
- 21:03buildings, you can spend a night in one to two
- 21:07buildings, set that time aside investigating
- 21:10that one building, and then the last few days
- 21:13of the week, by the time you're done with all
- 21:15the buildings, you can decide which ones you
- 21:18had the most activity in, which being, like we've
- 21:22said, it's a hit or miss night, depending on...
- 21:25But if you had a lot of activity in one building,
- 21:28you're definitely going to want to go back there,
- 21:30right? And then we know where to focus our time
- 21:34on next time, too. What would you pick, Ange?
- 21:39I don't know. I'm thinking some sort of prison.
- 21:46Would be really cool. That was my other thought,
- 21:49too, but I don't - Like, a ginormous prison.
- 21:51Like, we really - We wouldn't really get the
- 21:54true jail experience, but, like - You'd get -
- 21:56Actually, it's just - Do you want the true jail
- 22:00experience, Xander? Because we could probably
- 22:02lock you in a cell for a week. Okay, so you would
- 22:06go to Billy Creek Village. You would go to a
- 22:08haunted, um - Jail. Prison of some sort. You
- 22:11know what was coming to my mind, randomly? Hmm?
- 22:15I've never been there. I don't think we've ever
- 22:17talked about it. I've never even thought about
- 22:19wanting to go there, to be honest, but it just
- 22:21popped in my mind when you asked that. Don't
- 22:23you say Waverly Hills now? No. Oh, okay. If I
- 22:28could spend a week living in any haunted location,
- 22:32I, my brain went straight to Lizzie Borden's
- 22:36house. Interesting. What, Ange? I just remember
- 22:44going there as a kid. You went there? i went
- 22:47there as a kid oh god i don't know maybe it was
- 22:50really creepy because i went there as like because
- 22:52i was a kid but i don't know it's just it's just
- 22:56creepy you you're going to these exact locations
- 22:59where people got brutally murdered and then you
- 23:01can still see the blood stains of the victims
- 23:05and it's creepy you know it's creepy the attic
- 23:10i remember was really creepy yeah you can still
- 23:13see like is it like real blood stains or yeah
- 23:16yeah like if you go down in the basement you
- 23:19shine the black light on it you can see the blood
- 23:21stains and of the blood seeping through the floors
- 23:23when you were a kid you went to lizzie borden's
- 23:26house with a black light and you're like this
- 23:28is real they had a black light and they showed
- 23:30us but i also remember as a kid they would they
- 23:35would um they passed the photos around of the
- 23:38crime scene photos and a stranger just handed
- 23:42me the crime scene photos of the guy who got
- 23:44who got killed on the couch and it was like really
- 23:47gruesome and you can like see his eyeball on
- 23:49his cheek and everything like that and his face
- 23:51all axed up a kid shouldn't have looked at that
- 23:54no probably not this is like your origin story
- 24:03Do you remember anything before that point? I
- 24:06remember a few things. But that's when everything
- 24:10starts becoming clear. That's when I became conscious.
- 24:14The images of the murdered bodies really put
- 24:20your mind into reality. It really kicked me into
- 24:24reality. It really kicked you into high gear
- 24:26of, oh wow, I exist and I have memory now. How
- 24:32old were you? I don't know. Old enough? Younger
- 24:38than 10, for sure. But not old enough to see
- 24:42those photos. Yeah. Let's say 6, 7? No, older
- 24:46than that. 8? I'm thinking maybe like 8 -ish
- 24:53or something, maybe? Okay, so is it safe to say
- 24:56that... When Angela was eight years old, the
- 24:59Lizzie Borden house reminded her that she is
- 25:02a human. I'm a human and anyone can murder you
- 25:06at any second. If they really choose to. Life
- 25:11is finite. Make the most of it. Well, I feel
- 25:19like this episode of the podcast has lost the
- 25:23plot a little bit. Yeah, so let's go back to
- 25:25the central conceit. Any final thoughts on, we
- 25:30all would love to go anywhere for, you know,
- 25:33a haunted place for extended periods, but any
- 25:37final thoughts on if it would necessarily yield
- 25:41more activity, off -the -walls activity, 24 -7
- 25:46activity? I changed my location. I think, um,
- 25:52Villisca X Murder House. that's even smaller
- 25:57i hear smaller but i heard that place is really
- 26:02intense and you could get the full experience
- 26:04by living there for a week well that's the thing
- 26:07it's like i was going to like a house idea because
- 26:09like move like literally move in and just pretend
- 26:11like this is your house and it's small enough
- 26:13to know if activity happens you're gonna encounter
- 26:16it like if you have uh your eyes open and your
- 26:20ears open you're gonna know it's not a case of
- 26:24like a big prison or something where something
- 26:27could be happening on the third cell block and
- 26:29you're in the first one yeah still just uh you
- 26:34know i'm trying to narrow it in like like really
- 26:36be i still like brianna's idea the best you like
- 26:40yeah i do like hers the best because you're just
- 26:42taking one one uh building from a village and
- 26:46just focusing in on it for a whole extended period
- 26:49yeah Okay, so, fuck. And we come to the same
- 26:57fucking conclusion every fucking time. Brianna's
- 26:59the best, and it makes us all fucking sad. We're
- 27:02all gonna die. We're humans. Fucking Angela showed
- 27:06pictures of death getting murdered. This is cruel.
- 27:10Angela could die or get murdered if anyone wanted
- 27:13to, but you know, goddammit, the whole point
- 27:16is Brianna's the fucking best. Comes up with
- 27:18the best ideas, and ugh. Is that accurate? I
- 27:24can leave if you want me to. No, please. You're
- 27:29the best. I don't know where this is coming from.
- 27:36And it's making me feel very awkward now. That
- 27:41was supposed to be a compliment. That was my
- 27:43idea of a compliment. But you seemed very angry
- 27:47about it. Because we're not the best. You're
- 27:51the best. yay you rah rah woohoo thanks do that
- 28:04again edge yay alright bye bye people bye hope
