- 1:46to that plus show because Dan really comes forward and it opens up about some
- 1:49things. Yeah, you know, there's the trip to Seattle really changes life,
- 1:55change his life, and turns out I was I was exposed to something.
- 1:59Yeah, yeah that I'm gonna have a difficult time returning from Yes,
- 2:04and did not want to share with his beautiful wife what what what he was
- 2:09exposed to because she loves it so much. Well, I was trying to
- 2:14protect her rush We've barely had her best interest in mind. That's how it
- 2:20starts, how it starts. Trust me, you want to go listen to
- 2:25that episode because I think I'm actually gonna go back and listen to it after
- 2:31this. Oh Jesus, anyway, how how are you guys doing. I'd
- 2:40love to pretend and say, all right, we're in the middle of it.
- 2:44It's Arctic Blast twenty twenty four and we're all feeling the effects. But
- 2:47I have to be completely honest with you guys. This is one of the
- 2:51this is one of the reasons why we moved to an island in the sun
- 2:55is to get away from that nonsense. Twenty twenty one earned us burned us
- 3:00bad and uh, obviously it was freezer burn and among the number of reasons
- 3:06why we wanted a change in scenery, that winter storm had had a big
- 3:12role to play, and the idea of not having to go through another one
- 3:15of those is very, uh soothing for us. But I'm not without empathy,
- 3:23are you guys? Cozy? How are you feeling? Yeah, I
- 3:27got the heat on. It's it's it's not not not planning to go.
- 3:30Uh. Anywhere we got the last week, we went and actually prepared for
- 3:35it smart. We went and got stuff that we would need, like in
- 3:38case things went awry like that, like I did a couple of years ago.
- 3:45So we we've we've planned for it. We've got all this stuff.
- 3:47Uh, and then we got some heat of blankets, so we're solids.
- 3:51Yeah, Drey, what about you? I'm doing okay. I've stocked up,
- 3:57got anything I might need and uh, you know, unfortunately I still
- 4:02have to go out, but uh, and it's it's miserable. But but
- 4:08Dan, I did I did feel it for you because I did look at
- 4:10the forecast and you know, uh, you have that that big temperature gap,
- 4:16you know, swing of seventy six eighty two all week, But it
- 4:20does look like it's it's You've got a chance of rain almost all week.
- 4:25So I feel for you. Yeah, Saint John is is a real hell,
- 4:29especially this time of year. The good thing you have going for you
- 4:34Trey, and I don't know Raja if you're aware of this, but uh,
- 4:39Trey's dog Daisy, very famous Daisy. She is a three ish pound
- 4:44chihuahua. Here is something that anyone that has ever had a chihuahua in their
- 4:48lives knows. The smaller they are, the more heat they generate. If
- 4:56Rkatt was smart, anytime they feel like their generation is too low, they
- 5:00should just go plug into the nearest chihuahua and you will see an entire neighborhood
- 5:05lit up with all the heat it needs. This was true when we had
- 5:10Daphne, our four four and a half pound space heating chihuahua. You put
- 5:14her under a blanket, you're sweating. Bella, our current chihuahua mix,
- 5:18who's like eight pounds, doesn't put off the same amount of heat as Daphne
- 5:24did because she was smaller. It's more concentrated, you know, but Bella
- 5:29still will put off a good amount of heat, Trey, your Chihuahua Daisy
- 5:32would basically be like a radioactive isotope heat source. Yes, she is.
- 5:40It is amazing that that small of an animal can put off that much heat.
- 5:44But she will curl up against my neck and I will be sweating in
- 5:47five minutes. Wow. So just the Chihuahuas. I don't know if it
- 5:54happens with any other breed of dogs, because we've been we've had a number
- 5:59of dogs in our lives, Tara and I have. We've also fostered many
- 6:01types of dogs, including ones that are supposed to be, you know,
- 6:04cold weather dogs like we've we've fostered a few, uh not Pekades, grant
- 6:11Great Pyrenees, very different dogs. Those are the huge white dogs, you
- 6:15know, and you think if he, if that dog smothers you, you're
- 6:17gonna sweat and die. But no, they're actually it's very comfy and relaxing.
- 6:23But chihuahua. Yeah, so what it is, it's like they just
- 6:26maybe that's the reason they shake. It's not because they're cold, it's because
- 6:29they're just releasing so much heat. Yeah. So the white dogs are relaxed,
- 6:34and then the chihuahuas are working extra hard to generate heat. I don't
- 6:41know if I like this. I don't know if I like this road called
- 6:45metaphor that you're you're taking down this. I'm just saying, you're saying the
- 6:47white you know, the white dog, doesn't you know, what you expect
- 6:50him to do, doesn't do, and then what you you know, you
- 6:54get, you get the chihuaha and it does more than you expected. I
- 6:59feel like this dry have on metaphor lane, that you're taking me down RAJ
- 7:01into a very bad dead end. No, and I'm trying to and I'm
- 7:09and I'm going to cancel this uber. Oh so now I drive an uber
- 7:15because I'm the Indian guy on the show. You know what, I was
- 7:17already, it was already in the neighborhood of stereotypes. I'm not as well
- 7:20exploited for my own benefit. Yeah that was beautiful, well played, my
- 7:29friend. If I had I would tip it to myself. Yeah that's uh
- 7:36yeah, I have one hundred pound boxer bulldog and uh he it's very interesting.
- 7:44He likes the heated blank like you can't get him off the heated blanket.
- 7:47I'm like, that's what you're like, your size, you should be
- 7:51warm, like that's you're a big dog, you would think, you would
- 7:56think. And he no. He curls right up on the electric blanket and
- 7:59he is dead to the world, like literally, like I got to check
- 8:03on him, like, I'm like, oh you did you did you get
- 8:05elextrocuted? What happened buddy? And he just kind of looks up like I'm
- 8:09good. Like no food that is that is just bliss that you were witnessing.
- 8:13Yeah, no, no treat, go get him up. No food
- 8:16in the here and the food hit the bowl, none of that gets him
- 8:20up. Just heated blake, And so I have to turn it off.
- 8:22And then once it finally cools down, he's like, so, what's for
- 8:24lunch? So it turns out your dog is a suck on the energy coming
- 8:31into your home. Yeah, absolutely, And so because of the Arctic blast,
- 8:37I saw it, you know last week. You know, I have
- 8:41a you know, sort of a a heart on for Urkot, not necessarily
- 8:46a good one. I'm always curious, before it's going to be really hot
- 8:50or it's going to be really cold, what's Urkot gonna say? Somebody asked,
- 8:56or even if nobody asks, they'll release a statement. And this from
- 9:05CBS eleven. And I appreciate, you know, quality journalism, right,
- 9:11something that has you know, is not as common as it used to be,
- 9:15at least it seems, so I appreciate when the news outlets really go
- 9:18the extra mile. So right before the Arctic Blast twenty twenty four, hit
- 9:26Urkott wanted to make sure everyone knew that it was ready. Urkott said it's
- 9:33prepared to handle potential record breaking electricity demand related to the Arctic Blast hitting North
- 9:41Texas. Oh jesus Ah, you kill me. Yeah, thank you,
- 9:50Goose. I would like to point out that as I read that headline,
- 10:00that's the exact laugh I had in my head was Goose from top Gun because
- 10:05I don't ever believe it. Yeah, yeah, Nor is there any reason
- 10:09why you would Nope, Because because here's the problem when it comes to IRCOT
- 10:18all right, there's more than one, but this is one of the main
- 10:18issues at this moment. That is, even if they get it done properly,
- 10:26that's the bare minimum. That's that's you doing your job. Was keeping
- 10:31everybody's power on? Did you keep everybody's power on? You did your job,
- 10:35as opposed to they make it seem like they just won the super Bowl
- 10:39every time they're quote unquote successful, that the IRCT line of success is is
- 10:46really just the bare minimum. Yeah, the line of success is the grid
- 10:52didn't collapse. I just want to know how that. Yeah, how'd that
- 11:00conference, like that meeting go when they're like, hey, can we just
- 11:03do our job? And it was like, you know what, Jenkins,
- 11:07that's a good idea. That's a smart That's why you're the brains here.
- 11:09So we're just gonna do what we're supposed to do. You're incredible. Make
- 11:13sure you make sure you make sure you circulate that. And memo for everyone's
- 11:16got to read this. I was driving on Thursday or Friday, and I
- 11:22remember coming off the tollway thinking, I'm like, we're close to the hot
- 11:26I know we're on the same hosp The grid is the hospital that's behind us.
- 11:28So I'm like, nothing, the power's not going to go out.
- 11:31That was my first thought, not like Urkot's gonna be great. It was
- 11:35like where are we as in reference to this hospital? Yea, And that's
- 11:39when I was like, okay, a little sigh of relief yeah as.
- 11:43An arctic blast heads toward North Texas, bringing with it below freezing temperatures.
- 11:46Urkat said it's prepared to handle potential record breaking electricity demand. Jesus, you
- 11:56kill me. One good turned deserved another. But for many across Texas,
- 12:01the cold front is blowing in flashbacks to the February twenty twenty one power grid
- 12:05failure. During that historic storm, much of the state lost power, in
- 12:09some cases for days. The outages caused pipes to burst like mine, homes
- 12:13to flood like mine, and killed more than two hundred people. In the
- 12:18three years since the storm, more power plants have been winterized, natural gas
- 12:20producers have been put on lists to ensure their power stays on yeah You list,
- 12:24and the overall electricity capacity in the state has increased, But has it
- 12:28been enough. The CBS News Texas I team asked experts on a scale of
- 12:33one to ten what their confidence level is in the Texas power grid holding up
- 12:39in the next severe winter storm. So experts on a scale of one to
- 12:43ten where asked what their confidence level is in the Texas power grid. Thomas
- 12:50Overby, director of Texas A and M Smart Grid Center, his confidence level
- 12:54is a nine. Meanwhile, Beth Garza, former Independent or Cotton monitor,
- 13:00says her confidence level is a seven, and finally, Doug Lewin, author
- 13:07of Texas Energy and Power newsletter, says his confidence level is a three and
- 13:13an eight. At the same time, he says an eight in confidence that
- 13:20the storm will not be as bad as twenty twenty one, but only about
- 13:24a three in confidence that there would not be any outages at all. Me
- 13:30however, my confidence meter runs on a completely different scale when it comes to
- 13:35RKOT. Mine's on the letters scale, and my confidence level in Rkott being
- 13:41able to get us through this Arctic blast is for me, I grade that
- 13:46as f you. At the same time, who's this US white man?
- 13:54What do you mean? Yeah? You have a you have a you have
- 14:01a bitch to you have a you have a you have something a bitch about?
- 14:05Really on the on the island? Yeah that now? Is that your
- 14:09Is that your thermal short sleeve shirt? You know what they're they're there are
- 14:15power grid issues here too. Sometimes it's cloudy. Oh yeah, I know.
- 14:18Oh my god, sometimes you have to wear pants. Thank you for
- 14:24recognizing my struggle. You're listening to the tree house visit us online a Treehouse

- 15:45inspection Cook DFW Roofing and Restoration eight three three Cook DFW or COOKDFW dot com
- 15:52and not a as much of a sponsor as much of more so, it's
- 15:58a partnership that we have had for many, many years. Trey, How
- 16:03what do you think our partnership with Pause in the City, North Texas's largest
- 16:10no kill all volunteer rescue group two thousand and eleven, twelve or what?
- 16:19Did it actually go back to twenty ten? It would actually go back to
- 16:25about eight, No, I guess, No, it was twenty ten.
- 16:30So the show was tied to another no kill animal shelter and our friend there
- 16:41got ousted, and so that happened in I think eight and then we were
- 16:47off the air. Then when we came back, Johnny had gotten hooked up
- 16:52with Pause in the City and Tara and that's how so that happened right actually
- 16:56when we started doing mornings. Yeah, yeah, twenty ten. Kudos to
- 17:02us to kind of remembering that, because we don't remember most of the stuff
- 17:04we did and when we were doing morning radio on the Eagle. But we
- 17:08have managed to maintain the relationship despite some changes at the leadership level at Pause
- 17:15in the City, some of which were not all voluntary, But that's something
- 17:19this show knows a lot about as well. That's why we seem to get
- 17:22along so well. So once again, we talked to her a handful of
- 17:26times last year, and so she's back this year. Kaylin from Pause in
- 17:30the City, welcome back. Yeah, thank you having me. Oh it's
- 17:34our pleasure. So what's new at Pause in the City. Uh, So,
- 17:40we wanted to kind of touch bas and give you guys just a really
- 17:44brief overview of what y'all helped us do last year. Oh, you're giving
- 17:48us credit, please continue. You know what we're gonna We're gonna give you
- 17:55like an a for half heard on some of these now not results, but
- 18:00the effort. Yeah. See effort. Hey, if if our partnership mean
- 18:03is coming and having a beer and getting to talk about dogs, I think
- 18:07that's a good effort. It's been helping. So, you know, last
- 18:11year we kind of talked about typically we hold around fifteen dogs a year going
- 18:15through our process to get them out adopted. Twenty twenty three, we had
- 18:22twenty nine dogs rescue, fostered and cared for in total. That's awesome to
- 18:26give you an idea. Just since November, I have six dogs that have
- 18:32been in my email about they have been adopted out just starting process in November
- 18:37through today. Wow, that is fantastic. Yeah, so it's really exciting.
- 18:41And then out of everything we've raised, you know, we've got the
- 18:45typical yearly events we do, We do all of our regular adoption events,
- 18:48and then last year we added Vermafest we raised. Out of everything we raised,
- 18:53ninety one percent of everything raised went straight to the dogs. The other
- 18:56nine percent is just like admin and things like that and bandwidth and such.
- 19:00I understand those. Yeah, I get it. That's fantastic. And that's
- 19:04a number that a lot of charities strive for but typically fall short of.
- 19:11And then there's there's you know, charities out there that I'm not naming any
- 19:15names, but they'll operate to where like ninety seven percent will not go to
- 19:22its intended purpose, but instead we'll go to the organization running it right.
- 19:27And then so that leaves three percent going to the actual efforts that they supposed
- 19:33to you know, take care of. So it hitting that ninety percent and
- 19:38above mark is is a huge accomplishment. So so good job. Yeah,
- 19:42and that's how like you can you there are different websites you can and look
- 19:47up charities and they get graded on that and and the very few that are
- 19:52above ninety percent, you know that that is an exceptional mark. Yeah,
- 19:57we'll appreciate it. No, I mean, it's it is what it is.
- 20:03It's one of those we're pretty proud of it. But there are definitely
- 20:07organizations that make the number kind of hard to find, yeap when you go
- 20:11to you know, see what their online presence looks like. So, and
- 20:15that's typically what happens when you have two organizations. Uh. And and another
- 20:21way that we're familiar with sort of the backside of things of what of what
- 20:25Pause and the City does, is our foundation that benefits you know, families
- 20:30of fallen police officers and firefighters in North Texas operates in a very similar fashion,
- 20:33meaning it's all volunteer based. Some of those other organizations will have actual
- 20:37payroll of people that do things and those and those can be important functions.
- 20:41But Pause in the City and the Listeners Foundation operate very similarly in that it's
- 20:47all volunteer and over ninety ninety five percent whatever the exact number is for our
- 20:52side, I'd be like ninety seven percent for the foundation goes to its intended
- 20:56purpose and the rest is like the like you said, it's like you know,
- 21:00website hosting and such and taxes, and the more your charity grows,
- 21:06the more difficult it is to keep that number. I mean, it sounds
- 21:08counterintuitive, but the more money you take in and you're growing and so then
- 21:12you have more admin expenses and everything else. So as you grow and you
- 21:17keep that number above ninety, it shows that, you know, Pausing the
- 21:21City is a very well run organization. And I know I can tell Kaitlyn
- 21:25you don't want to take all the credit for it, but since you're here,
- 21:26you're going to have to just deal with So congratulations, good job,
- 21:29Kaylen Naymi. No, no, we have. We have a fantastic group
- 21:34of people, and that the admin cost. What we've done is we've taken
- 21:41feedback from people who have been on our website and you know, whether they're
- 21:45fostering adopting, you're just going to donate, and we're kind of seeing that
- 21:48back into some of the technical side of things, just to make it more
- 21:52user friendly. We don't want it to be like pulling teeth for you to
- 21:56try to foster a dog. Yeah, so that's a great I think,
- 22:00make that use differently for more use differently. So that's one thing a lot
- 22:03of people forget about is especially with the rescue group like yours, like Pause
- 22:08in the City, it's all volunteer. There's no brick and mortar building,
- 22:11it's all fostered based, so it's those dogs living in in the homes waiting
- 22:17to be adopted. So that's where not just adopting a dog, which is
- 22:22fantastic. If you want to find a way to volunteer to help, you
- 22:26know, dog rescue, like Pause in the City, it doesn't necessarily have
- 22:30to be where you have to just the only thing to do is adopt a
- 22:33dog. You can also donate money, but you can also open your home
- 22:37up to foster these dogs until they find a home, which is a great
- 22:40thing. Absolutely. If you're interested in any of that, you can either
- 22:45go to just send us an email at info at Pause Inthcity dot org,
- 22:48or you can email me. I can get you in touch with the right
- 22:51person depending on how you want to volunteer and make an impact. And it's
- 22:55just my first name, kaylin Ka l y n n E at Pausecity dot
- 23:00sailor. Is there any At one point I know there was talk in a
- 23:04pausing the city about eventually trying to get a brick and mortar shelter. Uh,
- 23:10is that still something y'all are thinking about, or if you just said
- 23:14we're just going to keep with just fosters, I'm not sure that that's something
- 23:18that's still being discussed. You know, it is something that if we decide
- 23:23to go that way, you know, the the things we have sid in
- 23:29place as far as like our major fundraisers can go a long way towards that.
- 23:32But I think part of the hesitancy is, while that can be great,
- 23:37where that takes more money away from like the medical bills and stuff.
- 23:41Because again, we don't shy away from animals that might be a little bit
- 23:45more medically acute to get them on the up and up to get them adoptable.
- 23:48So I think that's where the hesitancy is. It would be great,
- 23:52but you know, there's a little give and take there. So well,
- 23:56if you want, we're we're all familiar with some real estate off the toll
- 24:00Way that would be better used as a dog shelter. I think I might
- 24:03know what you're talking about as far as as far as fundraising goes. So
- 24:11twenty twenty three, you guys obviously had a great year as far as getting
- 24:15dogs adopted, fostering. And you mentioned that you've got your fundraising events that
- 24:21you do every year, and I know you've got at least a couple of
- 24:25those coming up pretty soon. So what's on the what's on the calendar for
- 24:27pausing the city right now? Yeah, so the most sorry, the closest
- 24:34event we have coming up is in February. I'm still waiting on a date
- 24:37from that. But the lovely folks at Three Nations Brewing in Carrollton have very
- 24:42graciually graciously opened up their space for us. So I am going to give
- 24:48you that information so that you can chat about that, so we can get
- 24:52that out there before the event passes. But if you want to go and
- 24:56you know, meet a couple of dogs, have a beer, donate some
- 24:59money, pick up some some goodies we typically have, you know, shirts
- 25:03or dog toys or something available, pop in and say hi, our biggest
- 25:10well what used to be the biggest fundraiser of the year. And I say
- 25:14that in the most loving way possible because we actually have an event last year
- 25:18that was new. I'll go into that second. But March ninth, we're
- 25:22holding Martinis and Martini's, poor mutts, and that's going to be a candle
- 25:26room. Yeah, is from seven to ten o'clock. If you've never joined
- 25:33us, it's it's a lot of fun. You know. You can purchase
- 25:36a table or a single ticket and you come in. There's a DJ,
- 25:41there's a lot of great people. There's a wine raffle, there's you know,
- 25:45there's there's all sorts of things. There's gifts for botox, stars,
- 25:49tickets like you name it. Somebody has donated something really cool for you to
- 25:53go in and bid on. And that's you said March ninth. That is
- 25:59March ninth, the candle Room. Yeah, so that's a night that Tara
- 26:03and I went once and it was a for that evening. It was a
- 26:08masquerade themed So I don't know if they're always that way, but I will
- 26:11say this, that was the most handsome Mark Verma ever looked, was with
- 26:15a mask. And it's worth the It's worth the price of the ticket just
- 26:22to watch dogs drink Martini's. It's fantastic, especially when they stick the deuke
- 26:26claw out to be fancy. I'm telling you, they get fed up.
- 26:33You should certainly look up the history of why or where it came from.
- 26:37Where people stick out their pinkies when they're drinking a cocktail. All right,
- 26:42I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna make a note of that. You're gonna
- 26:45want to take a look at that. That's going to give you some good
- 26:48conversation, all right. And then as far as our event, that has
- 26:53overtaken that spot as far as being our largest fundraiser of the year. Last
- 27:00year, we had one of Mar's friends come forward and he said, Hey,
- 27:06Mark loved rock music. Let's do something music based. Let's get you
- 27:11know, a big thing together. So we introduced Verma Fest last year in
- 27:15memory of Mark Verma, former president of Pause in the City, who unfortunately
- 27:21passed away. Yeah, it was July of two years ago, I believe,
- 27:26But I can't give you too many details. It's going to be in
- 27:30April. There's still deciding between two weekends to choose from. We do have
- 27:37somebody who has a volunteered to be headliner. We're just trying to work out
- 27:41the details. Unfortunately I can't tell you who it is, but it is
- 27:44a really big Dallas based band that I think pretty much everybody's heard of,
- 27:51if not, Oh, the mystery. So sorry. I've got all these
- 27:57bands running through my running through my mind, and I'm not saying them because
- 28:02I don't want to put undue expectations on on some people. Because some people
- 28:07may be thinking up here, some people may be thinking a little more down
- 28:11here, and I don't want to I don't want to put any name out
- 28:14there because then I don't want anyone thinking it's supposed to be this person or
- 28:18this band and it's not, and then they get disappointed. Makes sense absolutely,
- 28:23because on one hand, a Dallas based band that pretty much everyone would
- 28:26know what would be the Eagles, Yeah, m hm, and then on
- 28:33on on, like the lower end might be like, uh, you know,
- 28:37hardcore Vanilla Ice era. Oh please let it see. That's why I
- 28:45didn't want to say any names, because I didn't want to get anybody's hopes
- 28:48up. If you'd, like me, had tamper expectations. You're doing you're
- 28:55doing a hologram age for the rest Marten Show bandh God, no, please
- 29:00please don't slum it that way. No love here at the Treehouse are discussing
- 29:06possibly helping us with the event. Obviously more of that later, but the
- 29:11irony of that tray would be though, is that Russ would still demand the
- 29:14same fee. So yeah, we are going to do it. We can
- 29:19to help you with that event as well. Be happy to happy to help
- 29:22Pause in the City. You know, any and every chance that we get,
- 29:26including promoting things here on the show. And speaking of promoting things here
- 29:30on the show, not just events, not just the accolades of a previous
- 29:34year, but we always like to make sure we mention at least one one
- 29:37cute dog that's available for adoption at Pausing the City. And I know you've
- 29:41got one. Okay, bear with me because if you're seeing this on YouTube,
- 29:47I want you to be able to see this dog. He is so
- 29:49cute. Oh she's got on her phone. She's holding it up to our
- 29:52little cameras see him. Oh, Mike, you gotta turn this can turn
- 29:56the turn it a little bit pugged into too many things. I can kind
- 30:03of see it. Yeah, I just have to. You have to turn
- 30:07your head too far. Yeah, oh yeah, I'm sorry. But his
- 30:15name is Gavin. He is like the cutest thing. He's about two years
- 30:21old. We suspect he's a Grusseles Gryffon. Sorry Brussels gryffon mixed. That
- 30:26is that's a mouthful, it is. I'm actually glad you said that,
- 30:30because, uh, my old radio partner had one of those at one point,
- 30:33and that was my first thought was that looks kind of like a I'm
- 30:37with you. It's hard to say, a grustful business whatever, but a
- 30:41Brussels griffin, that's what I usually calling it. But it kind of looks
- 30:44that way, but a little bit shorter. So it's a mix. It's
- 30:45got a few different things in there, but very adorable. Yeah, he's
- 30:49he's super cute. He is in the uh, the categorization of a small
- 30:56dog. If you're looking for a dog that is friendly and super lovable or
- 31:00kind of independent, this is your guy. And you said his name is
- 31:03Gavin? Yes? Does he? Uh? Does? Does? Does a?
- 31:10Does he also run radio stations in Dallas or is that just a coincidence?
- 31:15Does he have a proclivity for bad mid day Not anymore? Tree,
- 31:21not anymore? He found he finally found the cure. Yeah, make sure,
- 31:26maybe finally found a midday show. That's number one. Congratulations Corey.
- 31:30Yeah, make sure make sure he's also dewarmed. Uh, I mean obviously
- 31:37as always we we do that. Thank you for giving me. And I
- 31:42was just talking about Gavin. I wasn't even talking about this one. I
- 31:45was I thought you were talking about the various midday shows that that we're dragon
- 31:49ass across carpet. That's what I meant. We can never just do one
- 31:59thing around here, we and just promote Pause in the City. We have
- 32:00to, you know, do other nonsense mixed in. Well. So another
- 32:07word. So you got Gavin two years old. He's a Brussels Griffon mix
- 32:13and he's currently in the foster program at Pause in the City. How long
- 32:15have you guys had him? You know, he was a part of that
- 32:17large intake we did right before the third quarter. We we took in quite
- 32:24a few animals. We got a few large donations and were able to go.
- 32:29We pulled like eight dogs and it was I think it was September.
- 32:35So they've all gone through all the checks and made sure they're healthy, gotten
- 32:38whatever medical treatment is necessary. But he is he's really versatile. He is
- 32:45happy to like, if you work from home, he will sit and hang
- 32:49out with you. Not a problem if you don't work from home and he
- 32:52has to, you know, hang out by himself. He is perfectly happy
- 32:55to do that. Yeah, it's good to be flexible, Yeah it is.
- 33:04He's he's kind of just chill. You know. One of the things
- 33:07we've seen with the pandemic is dogs have gotten really reliant on their owners being
- 33:10home because of work from home situations. So when you have one that is
- 33:15happy to be either or as far as left at home or you know,
- 33:21being a company it all day, it's it's kind of rare. I can
- 33:23tell you my dogs have gotten very, very cod abandoned. It is a
- 33:29post if you said it's two years old. He's a post pandemic dog,
- 33:31so yeah, he knows it, doesn't know that world. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:37he's a he's a pandemic puppy. And I'm on the pause in the
- 33:39city website, pausing thecity dot org under that where you can view available pets
- 33:45for adoption, and the photo of him, the one that you actually showed
- 33:47us, is even cuter, you know, where it's larger to see because
- 33:53he's got just enough of an underbite to be really really cute. Yeah yeah,
- 34:00I'm I'm a sucker for the underwrite. He's he's super cute. You
- 34:04should definitely go check him out. Not side notes. Like I said,
- 34:08he is great with kids. He has not really been around other dogs.
- 34:13His demeanor, we we suspect that he's going to be dog friendly. But
- 34:15if you do have a dog and you're interested in having a meeting with Gavin,
- 34:20we're happy to help. You know, just let us know and we
- 34:22will. You know, we can come to you or meet up at a
- 34:24park or something, have some sort of controlled meat to make sure that is
- 34:29a great fit for everyone. But like I said, we suspect he's going
- 34:31to be pretty dog friendly. Does he sit to pete? You know what?
- 34:39Han't that was personal with him? Sorry, that's more of a no,
- 34:47that's that's not that's nothing with you. That's more making Trey and Raj
- 34:51laugh. That was fantastic And I'm also going to send that clip to Gavin
- 34:58at Odyssey so he can kind of feel and you were, yeah, oh,
- 35:01thanks would be great. Is oh Man. He's a he's a big
- 35:09supporter of the rescue dog community. Yeah, so I don't know an occasional
- 35:15rescue show. It's Patty and Lease strains. So I don't know about your
- 35:20Gavin, but I've seen our Gavin on the leash. Yes, all right,
- 35:29Calen from Pausing the City, Thank you so much for stepping in the
- 35:31treehouse with us. We appreciate seeing you and hearing you, and we'll do
- 35:36more of this as this year goes on, so we'll hear more about what's
- 35:38going on at Pausing the City, all the great events and of course all
- 35:43the available dogs for adoption and ones that you can foster, and if you
- 35:47want to donate as well, all that great information. Pause in the City
- 35:52dot org. Thanks for hanging out with us, and more importantly, thanks
- 35:53for putting up with this. Kaylen, thanks for having me. More treehouse
- 35:59coming up that stay there, you're listening to the Treehouse. Visit us online
- 36:12that Treehouse on air dot com. All right, let's get Daniel Cook into
- 36:20the treehouse now from COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration. I'm curious, Daniel. I
- 36:23know you're in your truck probably every single day. Are you a good driver?
- 36:28And what is your opinion on roundabouts? Oh my gosh, what a
- 36:31terrible subject. As you probably heard my wife in the background, I did.
- 36:37She's not a fan. We've gone to multiple areas of the country,
- 36:43like you know, we'd like to travel, and every time we're driving and
- 36:45we see one. That's the first thing out of Carrie's mouth is something negative
- 36:51about this roundabout. And I try to explain to her how safe that is
- 36:54and how much of a better in theory opportunity for reducing of res and in
- 37:01traffic collisions and deaths, you know, and so, but she's definitely against
- 37:07them. I don't have an opinion in my case. I mean, if
- 37:08they if they help, if they're scientific data that says these stop more accidents
- 37:14and deaths on the road, then hey, so be it. I'm not
- 37:16I'm not the smartest man to tell you that's not gonna work, but you
- 37:22know, I could care less. It is what it is. Let me
- 37:24ask you this then, just based on your own common sense and your first
- 37:30impression of this headline. Okay, California City to open fifteen million dollar turbo
- 37:37roundabout at deadly intersection. Wow. See, the first thing that popped through
- 37:43my mind was Daytona five hundred. The second thing in my mind was I'm
- 37:50just picturing all these teslas and hybrid cars going in a circle in California,
- 37:54trying to their their their mitigation software, trying to not hit each other because
- 38:01they have all their safety modes on, and then there's going to cause more
- 38:06cars to break getting into that circle of death. Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:10All kinds of just turbo things just kind of went through my mind all
- 38:14at one time. Yeah, that is so cool, man. I think
- 38:17everything you just said applies because there's lots of things to consider. I also
- 38:21think it's an additional bullet point for us to include when we think about the
- 38:25phrase, don't California by Texas. Yeah, I don't know. I don't
- 38:30know if we can handle a Texas turbo roundabout. I don't even like that
- 38:34name. How about this one. You need to get somebody like kitchen A
- 38:37to sponsor that roundabout, like the kitchen A Turbo round Think about a blender.
- 38:40I mean that'd be perfect. I need to work for California. I
- 38:44get people to pay for these kinds of things. I mean, that's a
- 38:45great idea. I'm ready to hire you right now. Just somebody needs to
- 38:47give me a bunch of money to do it, all right, So give
- 38:51give Daniel a cook. Speaking of a bunch of money, you're not going
- 38:52to need it to give them a call for that free roof inspection eight three
- 38:54three Cook DFW that's eight three three cook DFW or cook df do. Listit

- 40:14in a treehouse with us. Always a pleasure for us. I'm not sure
- 40:16if it's necessarily that way for her, but she I forget how it came
- 40:22up. This was off the air. We uh mentioned something about pinky's out.
- 40:27Oh, it had must it must have had to do with Martiniz and
- 40:30Mutts not being fancy and having your pinkies out. Right before she left,
- 40:37She's like, do you know the origin of that? And I'm like,
- 40:38no, just I assume it's aristocracy. I'm not sick still aristocracy, sure,
- 40:46yeah, And uh She's like, she's like, you need to look
- 40:52up sort of the origin of you know, the pinkies out stuff. I
- 40:54was like, okay, well, she's she's very sweet. Instead of way
- 41:00for me to look it up for myself, she wente and just sent it
- 41:00to me. It was actually really really helpful. So most of us associate
- 41:07pinkies out while drinking something to be fancy, to be Oh, we are
- 41:13upper crust. We are bougie. We are wealthy, we are we are
- 41:17you know, we are the cool kids because we're doing things for pinky's out.
- 41:22Turns out not too much. Stiff. Pinkies were caused by venereal diseases
- 41:31like syphilis hmmm, and ended up being used. The pinkies out ended up
- 41:38being used as a signal that it was safe to court one another from one
- 41:44individual to the other, meaning like, hey, you got syphiliss, I
- 41:46got syphless nice and you can you can joyfully hook up without worrying about infecting
- 41:52someone else, and so instead you can just pass it back and forth in
- 41:55a nice syphilis party. Did you stick your pinky out when you're like,
- 42:04I got some wormy black cod. I was gonna say, that's how you
- 42:10would have known if your black cod had your big black cod had worms.
- 42:15Uh as if it had its fin out. Uh Like no that that there
- 42:22was. There was nothing fancy about that. It felt much dirtier. I'm
- 42:31sure it was plus uh plus I mean, when you're holding your pinky up
- 42:40next to a big black cod, it's just yah, puts things in perspective
- 42:54for you. Yeah, just tuck that thing back in there. Save myself
- 43:08the embarrassment. You really got to go back and listen to that plus number
