- 0:09Welcome back to Randy Unscripted. I'm Randy Black, and this is another installment of my napod promo series,
- 0:16national podcast post month. The goal is to release a new podcast every day for the month of November,
- 0:2330 episodes
- 0:24in thirty days.
- 0:26This is episode number 18 in this twenty twenty five series.
- 0:32Big goals
- 0:33in life scare us.
- 0:36Micro goals,
- 0:38those change us.
- 0:39Today, we're talking about the small challenges that that quietly build stronger, more confident people.
- 0:46You know, when we talk about growth,
- 0:49most people jump straight to the big stuff, the big commitments, the big life changes, the big transformations.
- 0:55But the truth is most change actually starts with something
- 1:00tiny.
- 1:02Oftentimes, it's it's so tiny that you'd miss it if you weren't paying attention.
- 1:07That's where microchallenges
- 1:08come into play.
- 1:10A microchallenge
- 1:11is a it is simply a a small,
- 1:15doable,
- 1:16repeatable task, something that nudges you
- 1:19just slightly outside of your comfort zone without overwhelming you.
- 1:23It's the opposite of the all or nothing mindset that a lot of us bring when we're trying to improve our lives.
- 1:31Think of things like
- 1:33writing for three minutes
- 1:35or
- 1:37taking a two minute silent break,
- 1:40straightening up one small area of your desk,
- 1:44reaching out to one person you've lost touch with,
- 1:47or or finally doing that one thing you've been putting off.
- 1:52The power of micro challenges isn't in how big they are, but in how consistent
- 1:58they make us.
- 2:00Here's something I've noticed. We we often wait for motivation
- 2:04before taking action,
- 2:06but motivation is is is a 100% unreliable.
- 2:10It's fragile.
- 2:12It comes and it goes.
- 2:15What is reliable,
- 2:16though, is momentum,
- 2:18and momentum usually starts with something that feels almost embarrassingly
- 2:22small.
- 2:24Micro challenges do a few things for us really well.
- 2:28Number one, they build momentum.
- 2:32Small wins stack up quickly. They make you feel like you're moving even when you're not tackling anything huge.
- 2:39Number two, they shift your identity.
- 2:42Every time that you complete a tiny task, you're casting a vote for the kind of person that you wanna be.
- 2:49Not in a a self help book kind of way, but in a practical real life way. You start to trust yourself more.
- 2:57Number three, they lower resistance.
- 3:00Your brain doesn't freak out when you say, I'm only doing this for sixty seconds.
- 3:04Once you get started,
- 3:06you usually end up doing more anyway.
- 3:09And number four, they create a compounding effect.
- 3:13It's it's like saving spare change every day.
- 3:16One day you open the jar and you think, oh, wow.
- 3:19That really added up.
- 3:22And if you prefer
- 3:24a little scriptural framing for this, and, you know, I'm a Christian, so I kinda do,
- 3:29it lines up pretty well with this. Luke chapter 16 verse 10.
- 3:34He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.
- 3:40Again,
- 3:41not about perfection,
- 3:43just tiny acts of faithfulness.
- 3:48Lately,
- 3:49I've started really paying attention to those those little moments in my days.
- 3:54The,
- 3:55I I I should do that, but I don't really feel like it moments.
- 3:59And then I noticed something.
- 4:02When I shrink the task down to the smallest possible action,
- 4:06I'm far more likely to actually do it.
- 4:09Instead of clean the office,
- 4:11I'd give myself a micro challenge, like put one thing away.
- 4:15Instead of a, like, make a major make major progress on a specific project,
- 4:21I tell myself,
- 4:23work on this for three or four minutes.
- 4:26Nine times out of 10, that three or four minutes turns into 10
- 4:31or 20.
- 4:32But even if it doesn't,
- 4:34I still honored the challenge.
- 4:37I still built the habit of action,
- 4:39and that matters.
- 4:41Microchallenges
- 4:43make movement possible on the days when motivation
- 4:46is missing in action.
- 4:49So I wanna give you
- 4:50a few small challenges to try out today. Pick one or try all of them throughout the week. The point isn't doing them perfectly.
- 4:58It's noticing how they make you feel.
- 5:02So challenge number one,
- 5:04the two minute clarity pause.
- 5:07Set quietly.
- 5:08No phone, no music.
- 5:11Just breathe
- 5:13and see where your mind drifts to.
- 5:16Two minutes.
- 5:19Challenge number two is the one line journal. Write one sentence about your day,
- 5:24a win, a frustration,
- 5:26a question,
- 5:28anything.
- 5:31Challenge three, the thirty second reset.
- 5:34Look around the room and fix one tiny thing.
- 5:39Put something away.
- 5:42Wipe off a counter.
- 5:44Straighten something up.
- 5:47Challenge number four, the encouragement challenge.
- 5:50Tell one person something encouraging today.
- 5:53It doesn't have to be something deep. It could be, hey, I appreciate how reliable you are. Tiny moments like that will make a big difference.
- 6:01Challenge number five, the one step toward avoidance challenge.
- 6:06Think of something you've been avoiding
- 6:08and take just one step toward it. Not the whole thing, literally
- 6:13one step.
- 6:16These are intentionally small,
- 6:19and that's the point.
- 6:20Microchallenges
- 6:21are designed to feel winnable.
- 6:26Honestly, Daypod Pomo itself
- 6:28feels like the perfect example of a microchallenge.
- 6:32A daily podcast episode sounds huge when you think about the whole month,
- 6:37but one episode per day,
- 6:39one small act of showing up,
- 6:42that's completely doable.
- 6:44It builds the same kind of confidence and momentum we're talking about here.
- 6:49So if you've been following the series this far,
- 6:52you're already living the micro challenge life whether you realized it or not.
- 6:59Micro challenges aren't about proving anything.
- 7:01They're not about discipline for discipline's sake. They're small nudges,
- 7:06tiny invitations
- 7:08that move your life forward in real and noticeable ways.
- 7:12And the more you practice them,
- 7:15the more you start to trust your ability to simply show up.
- 7:19And when you trust yourself, well,
- 7:22you grow.
- 7:25Thanks for listening to today's napod promo episode. Remember, national podcast post month.
- 7:3230 episodes in thirty days in the month of November.
- 7:35If you try one of these micro challenges,
- 7:38I'd love to hear which one you picked and how it went for you.
- 7:41I'll be back here tomorrow with another installment
- 7:44of this daily series for napod pomo.
- 7:47I'm Randy,
- 7:48and this is Randy unscripted.
