- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, live from the WOR LifeVac Studios.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Guest hosting for Mark today, here's Ken Rosato. Nice to
- 0:10Speaker 1: be with you as we kick off Labor Day weekend
- 0:12Speaker 1: a little early on a Thursday. Let's go to our
- 0:14Speaker 1: friend Vincent in Brooklyn. Good morning, Vincent.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Good morning, Ken. Ken, I disagree with the crime statistics.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I believe that they were read at 10 o'clock or
- 0:26Speaker 2: 11 o'clock hour. I think... I believe that they play
- 0:31Speaker 2: with those numbers. In fact, I had a friend, he's
- 0:34Speaker 2: deceased now, 50 years ago. He was a cop, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: they were jiggering the numbers 50 years ago. I don't
- 0:42Speaker 2: believe that in the least. Every day you hear about...
- 0:46Speaker 2: some horrible incident like that poor woman and that man
- 0:50Speaker 2: that got stabbed in Times Square yesterday. By the way,
- 0:55Speaker 2: that woman was returning to work. She was a VP
- 0:59Speaker 2: at Bank of America. My friend's wife, 15 years ago,
- 1:04Speaker 2: retired from that position. She was the VP at the
- 1:09Speaker 2: Bank of America in Manhattan. Every day we hear these,
- 1:14Speaker 2: in the press or wherever, we hear these horrendous stories.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And then at the top of the hour, oh, crime
- 1:20Speaker 2: is down. That is such a crock. And as far
- 1:24Speaker 2: as all these illegal aliens here go, I think Trump
- 1:27Speaker 2: could do a better job, and this is the reason
- 1:30Speaker 2: why I say that. Even if he gets three or
- 1:33Speaker 2: four million out of the country by just concentrating on
- 1:38Speaker 2: the hardened criminals, which I don't think he should only
- 1:41Speaker 2: do that. I believe wherever they are in my neighborhood,
- 1:46Speaker 2: they're construction sites where if you sent... Just an ICE
- 1:51Speaker 2: agent with a windbreaker that said ICE on it with
- 1:55Speaker 2: two armed ICE officers and a clipboard. You'd see them
- 2:00Speaker 2: scatter out of the building like cockroaches because in all
- 2:05Speaker 2: of the non-union construction jobs, the deal is that anything
- 2:11Speaker 2: over five families that is going up That's a union job.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Or below that, you've got a couple of guys who
- 2:20Speaker 2: may be regulars. All the rest of them, those guys
- 2:23Speaker 2: on those jobs, they go shape them. Those jobs are
- 2:27Speaker 2: all shaved. The contractors go to Sunset Park. They go
- 2:31Speaker 2: to various places, Home Depot. They pick them up and
- 2:35Speaker 2: they work for a day. And also, I know this
- 2:37Speaker 2: because none of those people are wearing hard hats, safety vests,
- 2:43Speaker 2: safety shoes. They're also an insurance hazard.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You know what gets me, though? Can I pause you
- 2:49Speaker 1: one second? Go ahead, please. Why... I know that the
- 2:52Speaker 1: contractors are going to say, well, in order to afford
- 2:54Speaker 1: to do X, Y, and Z, we'd have to pay
- 2:57Speaker 1: people X, Y, and Z, etc. But it's not like
- 3:01Speaker 1: they're not charging money at these construction sites. They're charging
- 3:03Speaker 1: a prime dollar in New York City. So I think
- 3:06Speaker 1: they're full of baloney.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Ken, I heard that failed mayoral candidate one time, Curtis Sliwa,
- 3:14Speaker 2: say that if they would go in the restaurants and
- 3:17Speaker 2: arrest all the busboys and chase them out, the meals
- 3:21Speaker 2: would skyrocket. You're already paying $ 30 for a plate of
- 3:25Speaker 2: pasta with red sauce that it's lucky for course the
- 3:29Speaker 2: store 50 cents to make. So if you want to
- 3:32Speaker 2: eat in those restaurants, my attitude is, Have them hire
- 3:36Speaker 2: Americans in there, even the busboys and the waitstaff. If
- 3:41Speaker 2: you're paying $ 30 a plate for pasta, pay $ 35. Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Let's do it legally. Vincent, here, just to reinforce what
- 3:50Speaker 1: you're saying, the New York Post has a stat. Of course,
- 3:53Speaker 1: now I just lost it. I had it a second
- 3:55Speaker 1: ago here. The stat says that the in New York City.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Let me get this. Here we go. New York City
- 4:01Speaker 1: sees unsettling 206 percent jump in felony assault arrests of
- 4:06Speaker 1: repeat offenders. So here, of course, they're promoting whatever little
- 4:10Speaker 1: statistic that they may have manipulated, whatever way they did
- 4:13Speaker 1: to make it look like crime was down this summer.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But then you don't see this was on the back
- 4:18Speaker 1: page again. New York City saw a jaw-dropping 206% spike
- 4:22Speaker 1: in felony assault busts for repeat offenders over the past
- 4:25Speaker 1: eight years. According to those same new statistics, they apparently
- 4:29Speaker 1: arrested 263 criminals who'd been arrested three or more times.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So they keep going through the system. Mark talks about
- 4:36Speaker 1: this all the time. His police sources tell him, if
- 4:39Speaker 1: you just rounded up, you know this, you rounded up
- 4:41Speaker 1: the 2,000 to 3,000 bad guys in New York City
- 4:44Speaker 1: and kept them behind bars, you wouldn't have crime in
- 4:46Speaker 1: this city.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Exactly. And just another thing. I hear Steve Moore talk about, oh, brah,
- 4:53Speaker 2: inflation's now 2%, 3%. That's a bunch of baloney because
- 4:57Speaker 2: this has benefited Republican administrations as Democrats. They don't count
- 5:02Speaker 2: food and fuel. And the other day I heard a
- 5:06Speaker 2: real statistic where they did factor in food. food and
- 5:10Speaker 2: fuel and the real inflation rate is about thirty percent
- 5:14Speaker 2: you look at the with the fact that hamburger meat
- 5:18Speaker 2: course dead odd double canned goods course double now are
- 5:23Speaker 2: store brands of canned goods and frozen goods cost as
- 5:28Speaker 2: much as the name brands used to cause four years.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Trying to stake You see what steak costs?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Forget about it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: $ 20 for like a little, like a choice cut of whatever.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was like, are you kidding me?
- 5:40Speaker 2: You're talking about two shell steaks that maybe at best
- 5:44Speaker 2: come to a pound. You're looking at $ 20 easily. That's it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Vincent, I could talk to you forever. I appreciate the
- 5:50Speaker 1: fact that no matter what side politically, you are always
- 5:53Speaker 1: on it and always probably one of the best read
- 5:56Speaker 1: people who ever calls into radio. I appreciate that.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I call it like it is. I criticize both sides.
- 6:03Speaker 2: The way it should be. I look at the facts
- 6:05Speaker 2: and figures. Ken, I'm a businessman. You have a great weekend.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Great speaking to you again. Always a pleasure. And I'll
- 6:13Speaker 2: be listening tomorrow.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Vincent. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend,
- 6:17Speaker 1: my friend.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Take care.
- 6:17Speaker 1: 710 WOR, The Voice in New York. We have time
- 6:21Speaker 1: for one more quick call. Let's go to Mara in Nevada.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Good morning. Are you from the state of Nevada?
- 6:26Speaker 3: No, I'm originally from New York City. And you want
- 6:29Speaker 3: to know something? My darling Vincent, I'm so happy to
- 6:33Speaker 3: hear it. My darling Vincent from Brooklyn turned me on
- 6:36Speaker 3: to listening to you when Mark is away.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great. Well, you know... Mark's show connected Vincent
- 6:45Speaker 3: and I. He's the same age as my kids in
- 6:48Speaker 3: the mid-70s. We come from the same neighborhood.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So wait, let me pause you. So, Mara, you're saying
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're in your, what, 90s?
- 6:54Speaker 2: 96.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Oh, God bless you. My dad is your age. And dad, too.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Dad is sharp as a tack, too. Just like you.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You sound great.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Well, I feel great. Thank you, God. But, you know,
- 7:06Speaker 3: my kids and Vincent were communion, first communion, same church, confirmation,
- 7:11Speaker 3: junior high. No, the same people. I talk to Vincent
- 7:14Speaker 3: at least once a week. I love him so. But
- 7:17Speaker 3: can he, unless you, I came to New York, we
- 7:20Speaker 3: had lunch at Patsy's and we saw Mark. It was
- 7:22Speaker 3: a wonderful afternoon.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Mark's good people.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Can I go on with this, Lacey? Do I have
- 7:27Speaker 3: time to mention her?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Sure, we got about 30 seconds. So go ahead. I'll just,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I'll sit back.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Okay, if she had killed, in her state, if she
- 7:35Speaker 3: had killed the family pets, The dog, the cat. In
- 7:39Speaker 3: 15 minutes, that verdict would have come back guilty. Murder
- 7:42Speaker 3: in the first degree. She killed innocent animals. You mean
- 7:46Speaker 3: these people. So rare for a mother to kill three.
- 7:51Speaker 3: If I was her, you know what I would say?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Kill me. Kill me. Because for the rest of my life,
- 7:57Speaker 3: every hour, I'm going to go over.
- 7:59Speaker 1: She did try to commit suicide. She did try to
- 8:01Speaker 1: commit suicide.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Oh, baloney. Commit suicide.
- 8:05Speaker 2: She's a nurse.
- 8:06Speaker 3: She knew where her juggler vein was. She missed it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Mara, you are sharp as a tack, my friend. I
- 8:11Speaker 1: appreciate you listening, and thank you for calling in.
- 8:13Speaker 3: We're keeping it going.
- 8:15Speaker 1: You're a good lady. Good, good lady. Thank you for
- 8:17Speaker 1: calling in, Mara. 710WOR, the voice of New York. Ken
- 8:21Speaker 1: Rosato in for Mark. It is 1134, and here is...
- 8:24Speaker 1: Who do we have? Daria, you're still doing the news.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I'm thinking we shifted over yet. We didn't shift over yet. No,
- 8:29Speaker 1: and I love being stuck with you. Likewise. How are
- 8:33Speaker 1: you doing, Ken?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Good. Good.
- 8:35Speaker 1: We'll hear tomorrow. You're back tomorrow. Yes, I am. I
- 8:37Speaker 1: get to, I get to haunt your studios again tomorrow.
- 8:40Speaker 1: My pleasure.
