- 1:09Speaker 1: A and m Basketball starts a new era tonight at
- 1:13Speaker 1: Reed Arena at seven o clock against the Demons of
- 1:19Speaker 1: Northwestern State. That game, as I mentioned, tips off at seven.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You can hear it on our partners station wta W
- 1:32Speaker 1: televised on the SEC. Plus bucket Ball starts at seven
- 1:39Speaker 1: This evening, the SEC announcing A and M will kick
- 1:42Speaker 1: off at Kyle Field against South Carolina at eleven a M.
- 1:47Speaker 1: That game will be either on ABC or esp N.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Been a while since the Aggies have been home. They
- 1:57Speaker 1: travel to Colombia play Missouri this weekend at two thirty.
- 2:05Speaker 4: And that's a that's an ABC game, I think, isn't it.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Wait a minute, let me see if I have this
- 2:12Speaker 4: on the old. I think it's an ABC game, ABC, ESPN.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I think it's ABC.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Alabama defensive back Drake Kirkpatrick has been suspended and definitely
- 2:27Speaker 1: following an arrest over the weekend. Three counts of reckless endangerment,
- 2:31Speaker 1: one count of attempting to elude and speeding fifteen hundred
- 2:36Speaker 1: dollars bond. Kirkpatrick is a sophomore and the son of
- 2:40Speaker 1: former Alabama dB dra Kirkpatrick. Alabama host LSU Saturday Night
- 2:47Speaker 1: ABC Game seven World Series drew baseball's biggest audience in
- 2:54Speaker 1: eight years, according to the numbers.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Let's see The five to four win.
- 3:02Speaker 1: In eleven innings brought twenty five point nine to eight
- 3:07Speaker 1: million viewers across Fox, Fox Sports Deportees. More detailed numbers
- 3:15Speaker 1: are expected, but that's a lot of eyeballs for Major
- 3:20Speaker 1: League Baseball, and it's a lot of eyeballs for Los
- 3:24Speaker 1: Angeles and Toronto. Frankly, Rangers' second baseman Marcus Simeon has
- 3:29Speaker 1: won his second Gold Glove. That announcement made last night's
- 3:35Speaker 1: first time in a couple of years the club had
- 3:38Speaker 1: three Gold Glovers, Jonaheim, Nathaniel Lowe, and Adoli Garcia. Garcia
- 3:47Speaker 1: certainly is good enough to be a Gold Glove candidate
- 3:49Speaker 1: every year. Probably will not be back with the Rangers
- 3:54Speaker 1: this coming season. Marizio Debon won a Gold Glove for
- 4:00Speaker 1: his utility work, second career gold Glove at the same
- 4:05Speaker 1: spot he wanted a couple of years ago. He played
- 4:08Speaker 1: several positions for the Astros this past season. Boston Red
- 4:16Speaker 1: Sox third baseman Alex Bregman, Yankees outfielder first baseman Cody Bellinger,
- 4:24Speaker 1: Mets closer Edwin Diaz among the players to opt out
- 4:28Speaker 1: of contracts and into free agency. Bregman is gambling for
- 4:34Speaker 1: going final two years of a three year, one hundred
- 4:37Speaker 1: and twenty million dollars deal. More than one hundred and
- 4:42Speaker 1: forty players have become free agents in the last couple
- 4:45Speaker 1: of days. Bellinger declined a twenty five million dollar option.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just saying, if they wanted to pay
- 4:55Speaker 1: me half of that, you know, they could save money.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And I'd do it for half that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm just I'm volunteering, if you know somebody. Let's see,
- 5:10Speaker 1: let me do a couple of things here. We have
- 5:12Speaker 1: got our Friday's Fearless coming up. We're going to award
- 5:17Speaker 1: a valuable weekly prize for our only undefeated player. This
- 5:24Speaker 1: last week, it was a hard, hard.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Week for some of us.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm just going to tell you that right now, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm looking at this next week and it doesn't to
- 5:35Speaker 1: me look any easier.
- 5:38Speaker 3: There have been some difficult weeks for me.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just saying it hasn't been hasn't been easy,
- 5:49Speaker 1: But God bless you. If you're picking games at a
- 5:52Speaker 1: good rate. Whoever wins the trophy this year, like every year,

- 6:42Speaker 6: Kyle Larson, and Brad Keslowski in second to victory Lane.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Ryan Blaney wins the race after starting fifth and leading
- 6:49Speaker 6: just twenty laps. But this is the stuff you really
- 6:52Speaker 6: want to know about, right, Blown tires affected all four
- 6:55Speaker 6: of the championship drivers, Chase Brisco having two issues, Kyle
- 6:59Speaker 6: Larson blew right front Denny Hamlin had a low tire
- 7:02Speaker 6: under caution, and William Byron blew a tire with just
- 7:05Speaker 6: three laps to go into the wall, bringing out the
- 7:08Speaker 6: caution and setting up a thrilling restart. Denny Hamlin led
- 7:12Speaker 6: two hundred and eight laps on the day and didn't
- 7:15Speaker 6: win or capture the cup. Hamlin had clutch issues on
- 7:19Speaker 6: his eleven car and was leading in the closing laps
- 7:21Speaker 6: when Byron's caution came out. He decided to get four
- 7:24Speaker 6: tires instead of two. Kyle Larson took just two tires
- 7:28Speaker 6: and made it work. Kyle Larson is your twenty twenty
- 7:32Speaker 6: five NASCAR Cup Series Champion, his second career title. Larson
- 7:37Speaker 6: never let a lap in this race. He won three
- 7:39Speaker 6: races this season and twenty one top ten finishes, and
- 7:43Speaker 6: it's the eighteenth driver to win multiple championships, fifteenth Cup

- 9:45Speaker 1: and m Massoo, Oregon and Iowa to your land in Memphis,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Duke and Yukon, Florida State, Clemson, San Diego State, Hawaii
- 9:57Speaker 1: and Jacksonville and Houston. Those are the games we're picking
- 10:02Speaker 1: this week. This past week, oh, it is not a
- 10:07Speaker 1: good week for me. We didn't get Richie. Matt left
- 10:14Speaker 1: a message. We left a message. Okay, our week ten winner.
- 10:20Speaker 1: If you know Richie Craven's tell him we're talking.
- 10:24Speaker 3: About him on the radio. He went undefeated. I don't
- 10:30Speaker 3: know how pure luck. I'm sure he would tell you that.
- 10:35Speaker 1: But for his efforts, he is going to get Sunday
- 10:40Speaker 1: buffet for two at Casa Manyari. Okay, So congratulations to Richie.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Thanks to all of you who are still playing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: We have got a tight race down the stretch, as
- 10:55Speaker 1: we always do, as people battle to get their name
- 10:59Speaker 1: and raved on the most venerated trophy.
- 11:02Speaker 3: In all of sports, Lord Howard's Cup.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's most loved football pick'em contest,
- 11:10Speaker 1: is brought to you by Chad Jones, law.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Ed Zwernemann Flooring.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Tomorrow on the program, I'm going to be visiting with
- 11:23Speaker 1: John Slattery.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Now some of you are going, yeah, I know that name.
- 11:31Speaker 1: He has done a lot of stuff, including mad Men
- 11:37Speaker 1: where he played Roger Sterling. Yeah that now you know.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And director John Vanderbilt. They have a new movie coming
- 11:51Speaker 1: out called Nuremberg that opens on Friday about the trial.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It just it sounds just fascinating to me. I'm a
- 12:01Speaker 1: big history guy. I can't wait to talk to these guys.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Vanderbilt has done the Spider Man films. He has done
- 12:10Speaker 1: a lot of stuff. Russell Crowe is in this movie.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Rammy Mallick is in this movie. It is quite the
- 12:20Speaker 1: cast and we will visit with both of them on
- 12:26Speaker 1: the program tomorrow. We will have a high school report tomorrow.
- 12:32Speaker 1: We will have post game Bucky Ball tomorrow, so we've
- 12:40Speaker 1: got that going on, which is nice. Today we have
- 12:44Speaker 1: Mike Elco, he held court as he does most Mondays.
- 12:48Speaker 1: We carry that live here on the Zone at one
- 12:50Speaker 1: thirty on Mondays of game week, and let's hear a
- 12:54Speaker 1: little bit about what coach Elko had to say today.
- 12:58Speaker 12: Twenty matchup on Saturday and it travels to number nineteen,
- 13:01Speaker 12: Missouri for a two thirty pm Central Time kick on ABC.
- 13:06Speaker 13: With that being said, coach, why don't you begin with
- 13:07Speaker 13: an opening statement?
- 13:09Speaker 14: Yeah, first of all, congratulations to coach Morrison and the
- 13:12Speaker 14: women's volleyball team for what they did this weekend. What
- 13:15Speaker 14: an awesome environment and read on Friday night, it was
- 13:17Speaker 14: great to be part of that. Unfortunately I could only
- 13:19Speaker 14: stay for two sets because I had a father engagement
- 13:23Speaker 14: that I had to be involved in. But I will
- 13:26Speaker 14: let him know that I have him too and zero
- 13:28Speaker 14: in watching volleyball sets this year. Want to give a
- 13:32Speaker 14: shout out to coach McMillan and coach Bucky for them
- 13:34Speaker 14: going to start at tonight. Good luck to those guys
- 13:37Speaker 14: as they open their season tonight. Over and read goodluck
- 13:39Speaker 14: to Joni and the women's basketball team that starts their
- 13:42Speaker 14: season on Wednesday. And so all the sports are now
- 13:45Speaker 14: kind of up and rolling, and it'd be an exciting
- 13:47Speaker 14: time here at Texas A and M. Going back to
- 13:50Speaker 14: the LSU week and just recapping our players of the week.
- 13:54Speaker 14: Our Scout Team player of the week on offense was
- 13:56Speaker 14: Kiati Armstrong obviously drew a tall task of kind of
- 14:00Speaker 14: simulating their big athletic tight end and did a really
- 14:02Speaker 14: good job with that. On defense, it was Jeremiah Searcy,
- 14:05Speaker 14: and you know, he's doing a good job at linebacker,
- 14:08Speaker 14: getting better every week. And then on special teams it
- 14:10Speaker 14: was Preston Landis. Our offensive lineman of the game was
- 14:13Speaker 14: Chase Basontas. Our defensive lineman of the game was Tyler
- 14:16Speaker 14: on Yetam. Chase again continues to be just a physical
- 14:21Speaker 14: force at guard and has really really blossomed into a
- 14:24Speaker 14: consistently talented elite player in this conference. And then and
- 14:29Speaker 14: Tyler had another really really disruptive game. And again they
- 14:33Speaker 14: don't always show up in the stats what the inside
- 14:36Speaker 14: tackles do, but he played a really really good game
- 14:39Speaker 14: both against the run in the pass for US. And
- 14:42Speaker 14: then the players of the week, you know, Marcel Reid
- 14:44Speaker 14: on offense accounted for three hundred and ten all purpose
- 14:46Speaker 14: yards and four touchdowns. Cash Is Hall on defense again
- 14:50Speaker 14: with two sacks, continuing to put relentless pressure on the
- 14:54Speaker 14: quarterback and then on special teams. Obviously Casey concepts you own.
- 14:58Speaker 14: Casey finished with one hundred and seventy five purpose yards
- 15:00Speaker 14: and two touchdowns and so.
- 15:03Speaker 15: Excited to get back to work. Had a really good
- 15:05Speaker 15: bye week.
- 15:06Speaker 14: I think we were able to accomplish the things that
- 15:07Speaker 14: we wanted to accomplish. You know, we went out, we
- 15:10Speaker 14: stayed sharp last week, we practiced, we did the things
- 15:12Speaker 14: we needed to do to start looking ahead to Missouri.
- 15:14Speaker 14: But you know, we're really able to get the guys
- 15:17Speaker 14: some good rest, some good recovery time, a lot of treatment,
- 15:21Speaker 14: which you need at this point in the season, and
- 15:24Speaker 14: came back today in the right mindset to get back
- 15:26Speaker 14: after it and so excited to go down to Missouri
- 15:29Speaker 14: and play another top twenty team on the road in
- 15:31Speaker 14: the SEC.
- 15:32Speaker 15: And so it'll be a huge challenge and we'll certainly
- 15:35Speaker 15: have to get our guys ready to play our best
- 15:36Speaker 15: football to have a chance.
- 15:37Speaker 14: And so from there we'll kind of open it up
- 15:39Speaker 14: to questions.
- 15:40Speaker 16: Roent Right, Travis, you know, looking at some of the
- 15:44Speaker 16: stats from from Mario's time at Missouri, She's Mississippi State
- 15:48Speaker 16: they used them, Why they used them to go deep
- 15:50Speaker 16: a lot. How did y'all know and formulate that he's
- 15:52Speaker 16: a guy that you can just get the ball into
- 15:54Speaker 16: his hands and he's able to make make a mistackles
- 15:58Speaker 16: and things like that.
- 15:59Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, I think practice always kind of reveals
- 16:02Speaker 14: that stuff, you know. I think you know, you guys
- 16:05Speaker 14: have been out there a little bit. I think practice
- 16:06Speaker 14: for us is extremely intense, and so you get a
- 16:08Speaker 14: really good look at what kids are capable of when
- 16:11Speaker 14: when you kind of watch them go through spring ball
- 16:13Speaker 14: and fall camp, and so, you know, we realized how
- 16:16Speaker 14: twitchy and athletic he was. We realized he was a
- 16:19Speaker 14: kid who could really do a lot with the ball
- 16:21Speaker 14: in his hands. I think maybe in the beginning of
- 16:23Speaker 14: the year you started to realize like how elusive he
- 16:26Speaker 14: was at getting himself out of tackles.
- 16:28Speaker 15: You know.
- 16:28Speaker 14: I don't know how much that showed up until we
- 16:31Speaker 14: started playing people for real, you know. And obviously he's
- 16:34Speaker 14: a really talented player, and you want your talented players
- 16:36Speaker 14: to have the ball in their hands in space as
- 16:38Speaker 14: much as you can.
- 16:39Speaker 16: One of those mistackles, broken tackles that stands out to
- 16:42Speaker 16: you the most of the season.
- 16:43Speaker 14: Yeah, for sure. The Notre Dame game. I think you know,
- 16:45Speaker 14: he makes that play on that sideline, and I don't
- 16:47Speaker 14: think there's a lot of people that I've been around
- 16:49Speaker 14: that get out of that tackle with the with the
- 16:51Speaker 14: power to get out of it and the balance to
- 16:52Speaker 14: stand on their feet and finish that thing into the
- 16:54Speaker 14: end zone.
- 16:56Speaker 17: We'll go to the right third round, David, A couple
- 17:00Speaker 17: questions for you.
- 17:01Speaker 18: Is it similar to the beginning of the season when
- 17:03Speaker 18: preparing for a quarterback where there's not a lot of
- 17:05Speaker 18: film this late in the year, though.
- 17:08Speaker 14: Yeah, I think the only difference is is, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 14: I don't know how much you can change the structure
- 17:13Speaker 14: of the offense. You know, I think that when you
- 17:17Speaker 14: get to this part in the season, And obviously I'm
- 17:19Speaker 14: sure they will. They're coming off a bye week, and
- 17:20Speaker 14: I'm sure they'll have their wrinkles and build the thing
- 17:22Speaker 14: around him as best they can. But you know, you've
- 17:25Speaker 14: got ten other guys out there who have eight games
- 17:29Speaker 14: of experience playing in a certain system, this certain kind
- 17:32Speaker 14: of way. It's hard to deviate that. I'm sure what
- 17:36Speaker 14: they'll do is try to tailor it to him. What
- 17:39Speaker 14: he does well, what he's really capable of and I'm
- 17:42Speaker 14: sure anticipate that the ten guys around him will step
- 17:45Speaker 14: up and support him, and he'll go out and play
- 17:49Speaker 14: a really good game with those guys as a tremendous
- 17:52Speaker 14: supporting cast for him.
- 17:53Speaker 19: Different question, but college football playoffs, this.
- 17:56Speaker 18: Expanded versions only a year old. Do you have a
- 18:00Speaker 18: strategy if you will for peaking then, as you know,
- 18:03Speaker 18: could be half the season at this point, you still
- 18:05Speaker 18: have a long way to go if it goes the
- 18:06Speaker 18: way you want it to go.
- 18:07Speaker 15: Yeah, no, I don't think so.
- 18:09Speaker 14: And somebody asked me that last week too, like in
- 18:11Speaker 14: terms of the peaking part, like it's such a hard
- 18:14Speaker 14: thing to gauge. You know, you you certainly don't go
- 18:17Speaker 14: into the season when you look at Okay, we've got
- 18:19Speaker 14: to go to South Bend in week three. We're going
- 18:21Speaker 14: to identify week nine, as you know, when we want
- 18:24Speaker 14: to peak.
- 18:25Speaker 15: I think you're trying to.
- 18:28Speaker 14: Push this growth mindset in your program that you know,
- 18:31Speaker 14: we've got to come out of the blocks ready to go.
- 18:33Speaker 14: You know, no team is their best version in the
- 18:36Speaker 14: start of the season. You want to really be a
- 18:39Speaker 14: team that grows every single week and really understand that
- 18:42Speaker 14: the best teams, and the teams that are standing at
- 18:44Speaker 14: the end get significantly better as the year goes on,
- 18:48Speaker 14: and you know, and then hopefully get into this month
- 18:50Speaker 14: of November where you know everything's at stake and you
- 18:54Speaker 14: understand the urgency of that better maybe than we did
- 18:57Speaker 14: last year, and you continue to see that growth of
- 19:00Speaker 14: the month of November, which then I think leads to
- 19:02Speaker 14: people talking about, Oh, it looks like they're peaking, But
- 19:05Speaker 14: I think it really kind of just step ladders all
- 19:08Speaker 14: the way through the season if you do.
- 19:09Speaker 15: It the right way.
- 19:10Speaker 13: Well, what are the last second row?
- 19:12Speaker 20: Alex Two questions about Missouri's offense, similar to David's question,
- 19:15Speaker 20: just on the tape that you have on Zoler's what
- 19:17Speaker 20: has stood out to you about the way he's played
- 19:19Speaker 20: a quarterback.
- 19:20Speaker 14: And the time he has Yeah, I mean there's obviously
- 19:22Speaker 14: not a ton of film. You know, we going back
- 19:24Speaker 14: and watched this high school stuff. Watch the part that
- 19:27Speaker 14: he played in the Vanderbilt game. Obviously you know he's
- 19:30Speaker 14: a talented kid. I think he throws the ball really well.
- 19:33Speaker 14: The ball jumps out of his hands, you can see that.
- 19:36Speaker 14: To anticipate him being able to make all of the
- 19:38Speaker 14: throws and you know, see what he can do with
- 19:41Speaker 14: his feet. He's an athletic kid, and so I think
- 19:44Speaker 14: he'll present a lot of challenges to us.
- 19:46Speaker 20: And then they're leading the conference in rushing and Hardy's
- 19:49Speaker 20: leading the way. Just what have you seen from him?
- 19:51Speaker 20: And maybe that offensive line that's just made them so
- 19:53Speaker 20: effective running the ball this year?
- 19:55Speaker 14: Yeah, you know there there, he's a really talented back.
- 19:58Speaker 14: He's big, he's powerful, he runs through I think you
- 20:00Speaker 14: see that consistently. He's always leaning forward and so you know,
- 20:05Speaker 14: he always gets more than is blocked, and I think
- 20:08Speaker 14: that's obviously a testament to being a really good running back.
- 20:10Speaker 14: And then I think, you know, systematically, they do a
- 20:13Speaker 14: really good job of running the football.
- 20:14Speaker 15: I think that's the kind of the blueprint.
- 20:16Speaker 14: Of Eli Drinkowitz offense is you know, they're going to
- 20:20Speaker 14: base it out of the stretch run game. They're going
- 20:22Speaker 14: to have the complimentary pieces of it. But you go
- 20:24Speaker 14: all the way back to NC State and that's the
- 20:27Speaker 14: one thing that stays the most consistent throughout his time
- 20:31Speaker 14: is they have a really really strong system and how
- 20:33Speaker 14: they run the football that they're committed to, and they
- 20:35Speaker 14: do it really really well.
- 20:37Speaker 12: Coach will go the back, right, Chris, You, when you
- 20:41Speaker 12: have success, you get a lot of end of the
- 20:43Speaker 12: year nominations for big awards for individuals on the team.
- 20:48Speaker 12: Do you address that at all within the group when
- 20:50Speaker 12: with the guys that are up for all these big
- 20:53Speaker 12: into the year awards.
- 20:54Speaker 14: No, I don't think we talk about it. Again, I
- 20:57Speaker 14: talk about this always, and I think this is so
- 21:00Speaker 14: critical in a lot of these conversations. But I have
- 21:04Speaker 14: two jobs here. The head football coach doesn't talk about
- 21:07Speaker 14: those things at all. He doesn't talk to players about
- 21:09Speaker 14: individual awards. He doesn't talk about those types of things.
- 21:13Speaker 14: Those things are completely irrelevant to the job at hand.
- 21:16Speaker 19: Right.
- 21:16Speaker 14: The job at hand is to figure out how to
- 21:18Speaker 14: play our best football Saturday against Missouri, and none of
- 21:21Speaker 14: that stuff is going to have anything.
- 21:22Speaker 15: To do with that.
- 21:23Speaker 14: Then there's the CEO part of my job that it's
- 21:27Speaker 14: my responsibility to push our players for those awards, right,
- 21:31Speaker 14: and so behind the scenes, with our media team, with
- 21:34Speaker 14: our branding team, we want to make sure that we're
- 21:37Speaker 14: doing the things as a program and as a university
- 21:40Speaker 14: that we need to do for people to become aware
- 21:43Speaker 14: of the types of seasons some of our guys are
- 21:45Speaker 14: having because it matters, right, It matters that our players
- 21:49Speaker 14: get the recognition that they deserve for playing the way
- 21:51Speaker 14: that they play. And you know, those two things then
- 21:54Speaker 14: become intermingled because in order for them to win any
- 21:58Speaker 14: of those awards, they're going to have to play the
- 21:59Speaker 14: next four games at a really high level, which means
- 22:03Speaker 14: they're gonna have to focus on one game at a
- 22:04Speaker 14: time and the preparation and what it takes to go
- 22:07Speaker 14: out and play really really good football on Saturday, and
- 22:09Speaker 14: so you kind of blend it all together that way.
- 22:12Speaker 21: Front left, Tony.
- 22:14Speaker 22: Obviously you're play facing the defense here that's like top
- 22:17Speaker 22: five in the conference and a lot of categories. I'm
- 22:20Speaker 22: curious to see the bye week. Does that help to
- 22:22Speaker 22: kind of look at you know, get that extra week
- 22:24Speaker 22: to kind of work or does it really matter, you know,
- 22:27Speaker 22: like the plan is what it is.
- 22:29Speaker 14: Yeah, it's interesting because when they have the bye week two,
- 22:33Speaker 14: it probably is kind of a balance. You know, we're
- 22:36Speaker 14: gonna look hard and look harder at what they do.
- 22:40Speaker 14: They're going to have more time to adjust what they do,
- 22:42Speaker 14: you know, and so those two things go hand in hand.
- 22:45Speaker 15: I think it becomes a.
- 22:46Speaker 14: Big advantage if you have a bye week and they don't, right,
- 22:50Speaker 14: and you get two weeks to prepare and they only
- 22:52Speaker 14: have four or five days when you're working on the
- 22:55Speaker 14: same timeline, it helps, but you also then have to
- 23:00Speaker 14: be ready for like what adjustments or what changes or
- 23:03Speaker 14: what wrinkles are you going to see because they had
- 23:05Speaker 14: the extra time to get ready as well.
- 23:08Speaker 13: All the way in the back, Tyler Might you talked
- 23:11Speaker 13: about your team. You're playing with the sense of urgency.
- 23:13Speaker 13: You know, teams like Missouri that you're playing, they are
- 23:16Speaker 13: desperate for wins.
- 23:17Speaker 19: Well, mathematically, you guys, aren't.
- 23:19Speaker 13: It seems like your team has been playing I don't
- 23:21Speaker 13: know desperates the word, but with the sense of urgency.
- 23:23Speaker 13: What do you attribute that too?
- 23:26Speaker 15: Yeah, I think we are desperate. I tell them all
- 23:28Speaker 15: the time.
- 23:29Speaker 14: You know, we have earned everything that we've got, right,
- 23:32Speaker 14: We've got a record, we've got a ranking, we've got
- 23:34Speaker 14: opportunities that we have worked really really hard to earn,
- 23:37Speaker 14: and every single Saturday, someone's coming in and trying to
- 23:40Speaker 14: take all of that from us. And that's the urgency
- 23:45Speaker 14: that we have.
- 23:46Speaker 15: You know.
- 23:46Speaker 14: In terms of Missouri, obviously they're a team that's still
- 23:49Speaker 14: on This is the challenge that you have in college
- 23:51Speaker 14: football today is you know, they're still very much alive
- 23:54Speaker 14: for the playoffs. This is a playoff game for them.
- 23:56Speaker 14: You know, they obviously know they're going to have to
- 23:58Speaker 14: win out in order probably to get in, and so
- 24:01Speaker 14: you know, this is a huge opportunity for them at
- 24:03Speaker 14: home on a big stage to make a statement that
- 24:06Speaker 14: they're going to go chase it spot in the playoff.
- 24:08Speaker 14: And so there's a lot more of that nowadays than
- 24:11Speaker 14: there's been in the past when only two or four
- 24:13Speaker 14: teams were making the playoffs. And so you know, in
- 24:16Speaker 14: a lot of ways, this is a playoff game on
- 24:17Speaker 14: Saturday in Columbia.
- 24:19Speaker 23: To the last second route Aaron Hey, coach, one thing
- 24:23Speaker 23: you've really pressed over the season is mindset, not worried
- 24:25Speaker 23: about the past, just coming off of this by week.
- 24:28Speaker 23: What's the biggest difference mindset was you've seen from the
- 24:31Speaker 23: players and I guess your fellow coaches as well.
- 24:33Speaker 14: Oh yeah, it's hard to tell if there's a difference.
- 24:35Speaker 14: The differences always seem to show up on Saturday. And
- 24:37Speaker 14: so I think we understand where we're at. I think
- 24:41Speaker 14: we understand the task at hand. I think we understand
- 24:45Speaker 14: to be in the moment and to focus on being
- 24:47Speaker 14: in the moment, you know, but all of that's got
- 24:49Speaker 14: to play itself out on Saturday, third Row Matthew.
- 24:54Speaker 24: Coach Bayman talked a little bit last week about loving
- 24:56Speaker 24: the intensity and attitude that Cash just plays with on
- 24:59Speaker 24: the defense. How have you seen that attitude from your
- 25:02Speaker 24: entire defense as a whole growth throughout the season.
- 25:04Speaker 15: Yeah, I think the more.
- 25:08Speaker 14: At times that they've been able to have success, success
- 25:10Speaker 14: breeds confidence, and confidence allows you to play with a
- 25:13Speaker 14: little bit more of a swagger, and I think that's
- 25:15Speaker 14: still you know, there's a consistency of all of that
- 25:18Speaker 14: that we're still searching and looking for. And you know,
- 25:21Speaker 14: certainly when we are able to get rolling like we
- 25:25Speaker 14: have at times this year, you see that confidence build
- 25:29Speaker 14: and that energy build, and that's when we're playing at
- 25:32Speaker 14: our best. The challenge to those guys is is to
- 25:35Speaker 14: go do that consistently, start to finish from the beginning
- 25:38Speaker 14: to the end of a game. And you know, we've
- 25:40Speaker 14: done it at times, but probably not enough yet.
- 25:43Speaker 1: All Right, That's some of what Mike Elco had to say. Yes,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm well aware that Kat called me Chris. She is
- 25:50Speaker 1: well aware of that too. You know, I'm the oldest
- 25:59Speaker 1: and the most andsome person in the room, so she
- 26:03Speaker 1: knows who I am, and bless her heart, she has
- 26:08Speaker 1: to call on all of these younger, uglier people and
- 26:11Speaker 1: it's it's hard to keep things straight sometimes, So we'll
- 26:15Speaker 1: just leave it at that.
- 26:16Speaker 3: She does a great job moderating.
- 26:19Speaker 1: If we have time later in the week, we'll have
- 26:21Speaker 1: more from coach Elko as well. And coming up, we're
- 26:30Speaker 1: going to switch from this is breaking news, by the way,
- 26:37Speaker 1: right Caleb, breaking news. A and M is going to
- 26:47Speaker 1: be back in that what do they call that Las
- 26:49Speaker 1: Vegas tournament nil something, Yeah, the players era tournament where
- 26:55Speaker 1: they pay the players to play. Remember Buzz got that
- 27:01Speaker 1: done two years ago and they played, and then Buzz
- 27:05Speaker 1: took that tournament with him to Maryland And we're not
- 27:07Speaker 1: exactly sure how that happened. He stole that away from
- 27:13Speaker 1: this year's A and M basketball team while he was
- 27:17Speaker 1: recruiting players, apparently to play at Maryland. But good news
- 27:24Speaker 1: for Bucky in terms of recruiting. That's just extra money
- 27:27Speaker 1: in the player's pocket, right. They get they get paid,
- 27:30Speaker 1: they get a check to come to Las Vegas and
- 27:33Speaker 1: play play basketball, and I'm I don't think I have
- 27:38Speaker 1: any eligibility left. I'm working on that, but if I do,
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna see about getting into that tournament next year.
- 27:47Speaker 15: All right.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Like I said, we're gonna change gears. We're gonna talk
- 27:51Speaker 1: about the home opener. We're gonna hear from Ryland Griffin,
- 27:55Speaker 1: one of the top three players on the team in
- 27:58Speaker 1: my humble opinion. Sefcheck Service Center open right now until
- 28:04Speaker 1: six o'clock this evening, seven to six. Throughout the week
- 28:08Speaker 1: seven to four on Saturdays, Pat and his staff are

- 28:17Speaker 1: Not always hard to find, but I promise you they're
- 28:20Speaker 1: gonna do it until they get it right. And most
- 28:22Speaker 1: of the time they get it right the first time around.
- 28:25Speaker 1: But if they don't, they're gonna make it good. That's
- 28:28Speaker 1: what they do every day. Whether it's something small or
- 28:32Speaker 1: something big. If it's your car, truck, it's always something big.
- 28:35Speaker 1: It could be battery, it could be a flat tire,
- 28:37Speaker 1: or whatever it is, could be some serious stuff. They've
- 28:40Speaker 1: got people on staff to fix it and get you
- 28:44Speaker 1: back on the road. Sefcheck Service Center twenty two hundred

- 30:46Speaker 15: Don't you cry? No?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Thanks for joining us.
- 30:51Speaker 1: We got the writers round table coming up in thirty
- 30:53Speaker 1: minutes seven o'clock Tonight, New Era Baggy Basketball starts out
- 30:58Speaker 1: at Reed York Western State Inn for the first of
- 31:04Speaker 1: the worst non conference schedule since I've been here, at
- 31:07Speaker 1: least tied for worst and I know that's saying something.
- 31:10Speaker 3: It's true.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Ryland Griffin played at Kansas last year, went to the
- 31:16Speaker 1: Final four with Alabama two years ago, and I might
- 31:20Speaker 1: point out is a graduate of Richardson High School, took
- 31:25Speaker 1: them to the final four. He's a Golden Eagle as
- 31:28Speaker 1: close to final four, I think the regional finals. I
- 31:31Speaker 1: need a double check on that, but he is a
- 31:34Speaker 1: Richardson Eagle, A very proud Richardson Eagle. I might point out,
- 31:39Speaker 1: here's Ryland Griffin.
- 31:42Speaker 8: Good.
- 31:42Speaker 17: So tell us about the exhibition game against Arizona State.
- 31:46Speaker 15: How was that?
- 31:47Speaker 8: It was good?
- 31:48Speaker 30: I feel like we left a lot of points on
- 31:51Speaker 30: the table and we gave up a little more points
- 31:55Speaker 30: than we would probably like to.
- 31:56Speaker 8: But that's what like exhibitions are for.
- 31:59Speaker 30: You got to see what you gotta get better, see
- 32:01Speaker 30: what you gotta work on, and so like this week,
- 32:04Speaker 30: we gotta work on what we weren't good at so
- 32:06Speaker 30: to make sure we're ready for Monday.
- 32:09Speaker 19: You left a lot of points until you score ninety five.
- 32:11Speaker 13: What does that say about this team and this offense
- 32:14Speaker 13: when you guys are hoping.
- 32:16Speaker 30: No, we got we got a great offensive team. I mean,
- 32:20Speaker 30: Zach is a guy who I knew could shoot a
- 32:23Speaker 30: lot of people didn't really know it, but he could.
- 32:25Speaker 30: He's a light, sile shooter. Ruben is probably him and
- 32:30Speaker 30: like Trellie Rice are the two best shooters I've ever
- 32:32Speaker 30: played with. So Like and Trellie, when I played with him,
- 32:36Speaker 30: he shot forty five I think from three, So I
- 32:38Speaker 30: think Rubens like around a forty five to fifty three
- 32:42Speaker 30: point shooter. We got guys that can get downhill, and
- 32:45Speaker 30: we got guys that can finish at the rim. So
- 32:48Speaker 30: I think we're really talented offensively, and feel like we
- 32:50Speaker 30: miss a lot.
- 32:51Speaker 8: Of free throws and a lot of layups in that game.
- 32:54Speaker 30: Probably miss about five or six layups that we normally
- 32:57Speaker 30: make with our eyes closed, and miss fourteen free throws.
- 33:01Speaker 30: For as good of a team as we are shooting,
- 33:03Speaker 30: we shouldn't be missing fourteen free throws. So we'll clean
- 33:06Speaker 30: that up and get ready for Monday.
- 33:09Speaker 19: All that you know talents that you haven't shooters.
- 33:11Speaker 13: How do you feel like none of you guys have
- 33:14Speaker 13: played together yet, so how do you feel like they're
- 33:16Speaker 13: the team?
- 33:17Speaker 19: Chemistry and on the court is coming along so far.
- 33:20Speaker 8: I feel like we've got great chemistry.
- 33:22Speaker 30: I feel like coaches really like instilled that we can
- 33:27Speaker 30: play together and still be successful. He's really instilled playing
- 33:31Speaker 30: the right way, which is something that I really really like,
- 33:35Speaker 30: and I feel like that's how we have to play
- 33:37Speaker 30: to win games.
- 33:38Speaker 8: Like sometimes you can.
- 33:40Speaker 30: See people, we know people can put up a lot
- 33:43Speaker 30: of points on any given night, but sometimes it might
- 33:46Speaker 30: be someone else's night, whereas like the other day was Zach.
- 33:50Speaker 8: Knight Monday, it might be somebody else's night.
- 33:53Speaker 30: So just have to figure that out and understand that
- 33:56Speaker 30: and accept that as a team. Every player needs to
- 33:59Speaker 30: accept that, and I think would be fun.
- 34:02Speaker 8: How would you rate.
- 34:03Speaker 28: Your performance with sixteen points?
- 34:06Speaker 15: Oh?
- 34:06Speaker 30: I did okay. I think I could have been better defensively.
- 34:11Speaker 30: Think I could have gotten more rebounds. Think I only
- 34:14Speaker 30: had like one or two rebounds, Like that's not gonna
- 34:17Speaker 30: cut it at all. So made shots, but I think
- 34:21Speaker 30: I could have did a better job of impacting the
- 34:23Speaker 30: game without making shots, because every game is gonna be
- 34:27Speaker 30: some games you might not be making shots, So it's
- 34:29Speaker 30: about what are you doing to stay on the floor.
- 34:31Speaker 30: And that's something that I wish i'da did better that game,
- 34:34Speaker 30: but something I'm looking forward to doing better Monday.
- 34:37Speaker 31: That was the second time y'all got to play somebody
- 34:39Speaker 31: other than yourselves. Was it good to kind of apply
- 34:42Speaker 31: that pressure in that pace against the team that didn't
- 34:45Speaker 31: already know what was coming.
- 34:47Speaker 30: Yeah, it's just good seeing like how it wears on
- 34:49Speaker 30: the team that's not us. Like, so when we do
- 34:52Speaker 30: it in practice, we got all the pointers on how
- 34:55Speaker 30: to beat all the stuff, so it's kind of like
- 34:57Speaker 30: night and day for us to beat it. But other teams,
- 35:01Speaker 30: I just felt like Arizona State really got tired.
- 35:03Speaker 8: And then I know.
- 35:04Speaker 30: Some some people don't really go deep in they bench either,
- 35:06Speaker 30: So playing about seven guys twenty five plus minutes than
- 35:10Speaker 30: that that type system.
- 35:12Speaker 8: You have no choice but to be tired.
- 35:14Speaker 30: So it really won on the Arizona State a lot,
- 35:17Speaker 30: I feel like, and that's pretty much a big reason
- 35:20Speaker 30: why we won as well.
- 35:22Speaker 19: Uh, I saw that.
- 35:22Speaker 31: I think out of y'all's eighteen turnovers, like fourteen, we're
- 35:26Speaker 31: in the first twenty five minutes of the game and
- 35:28Speaker 31: y'all only had four down stretch. What kind of message
- 35:31Speaker 31: was was said at have time to kind of affect
- 35:34Speaker 31: y'all being.
- 35:35Speaker 19: Clean over all?
- 35:36Speaker 8: Oh, it was just they just brought up how many
- 35:38Speaker 8: turnovers we had. We know we're not.
- 35:39Speaker 30: We're a better team than eighteen turnovers or or twelve or.
- 35:44Speaker 8: How many fifteen.
- 35:45Speaker 30: In the first I think it was like eleven in
- 35:47Speaker 30: the first eleven in the first couple of minutes, So like,
- 35:49Speaker 30: we're way better than that. We should have we should
- 35:52Speaker 30: be looking at getting eleven for the game so forever,
- 35:54Speaker 30: and that in the first couple of minute, and we're
- 35:56Speaker 30: playing fast.
- 35:56Speaker 8: It's a it's a new system for.
- 35:58Speaker 30: A lot of people, for pretty much everybody for the
- 36:01Speaker 30: most part, but playing fast, like from what I've seen
- 36:04Speaker 30: from playing on the fast teams I played with in
- 36:06Speaker 30: the past, you're gonna turn the ball over early.
- 36:09Speaker 8: It's just about emphasizing the turnover.
- 36:11Speaker 30: I feel like when the coaches start emphasizing turnovers, then
- 36:14Speaker 30: people start thinking, Okay, I can't turn.
- 36:16Speaker 8: The ball over.
- 36:17Speaker 30: Or when you break it down that we get no
- 36:19Speaker 30: points for possession on that, not even a chance to
- 36:21Speaker 30: get any points for a possession on that. It makes
- 36:24Speaker 30: you really think about it, like do I really want
- 36:26Speaker 30: to turn the ball over? Do I really want to
- 36:27Speaker 30: be reckless with the ball right now? And the answer
- 36:30Speaker 30: is pretty much gonna be no every time. So I
- 36:33Speaker 30: think just with them emphasizing how much we turn the
- 36:36Speaker 30: ball over. We got to clean that up, and we're
- 36:38Speaker 30: focusing on cleaning it up.
- 36:40Speaker 19: You're the bench out with a bunch of points. What
- 36:42Speaker 19: does that kind of say about like the depths of
- 36:44Speaker 19: you know, the bench and you know.
- 36:46Speaker 8: The whole team.
- 36:47Speaker 30: Oh, I mean, we just got a deep team. I mean,
- 36:49Speaker 30: and this is just a coach that plays his bench.
- 36:51Speaker 30: I mean there's a lot of teams in college basketball
- 36:54Speaker 30: with a bunch of good players on the bench, but
- 36:56Speaker 30: their coaches don't really play them. They stick to like five, six,
- 36:59Speaker 30: seven guys. So them dudes on the bench don't really
- 37:02Speaker 30: get to show what they can do every night. But
- 37:04Speaker 30: this coach, he hockey subbed in that game, Like I
- 37:07Speaker 30: haven't seen that before since I think like when Devin
- 37:11Speaker 30: Booker and then we're getting hockey subbed earlier in the year.
- 37:13Speaker 30: So like, yeah, he hockey subs and he plays a
- 37:16Speaker 30: lot of guys.
- 37:17Speaker 8: But I feel like that's we use that to our advantage.
- 37:20Speaker 30: Whereas you know, like we play, there's gonna be some
- 37:22Speaker 30: SEC teams that don't go deep at all. So you know,
- 37:26Speaker 30: we have guys that are fresh, so we shouldn't really
- 37:28Speaker 30: the way we play. You have to play hard every possession,
- 37:31Speaker 30: so you kind of you need to get a break sometimes.
- 37:33Speaker 30: And we got a good enough players to where we
- 37:35Speaker 30: can ask for a sub or coach could feel comfortable
- 37:38Speaker 30: subbing us out.
- 37:39Speaker 19: A big hockey fan.
- 37:41Speaker 8: No no, no, no, no no, a hockey fan, not
- 37:43Speaker 8: a hockey fan.
- 37:44Speaker 16: What what did Chris Dermot mean to just the program
- 37:49Speaker 16: as y'all were building a Rosster having at least one
- 37:51Speaker 16: guy that has a continuity to bringmember.
- 37:54Speaker 30: Yeah, Chris is great, like he'd be. You definitely could
- 37:57Speaker 30: tell he played for and last year because he crashes
- 38:02Speaker 30: the glass hard and he boxes out and he's real
- 38:04Speaker 30: physical and he can defend and do all that stuff.
- 38:07Speaker 30: So having him here and having a guy like you
- 38:10Speaker 30: need players like that to win, and he does that
- 38:12Speaker 30: at a very high level.
- 38:14Speaker 8: And he knows everything here.
- 38:15Speaker 30: So I asked him where to go to class, where
- 38:18Speaker 30: the dining hall is, all the stuff around, even the
- 38:21Speaker 30: best food spots out here, Like he knows all that
- 38:24Speaker 30: because he's been here.
- 38:25Speaker 8: So he's been very useful on and off the court.
- 38:29Speaker 8: The subbing.
- 38:29Speaker 17: Do you think was that just for the exhibition or
- 38:32Speaker 17: do you think that that's gonna be something that y'all
- 38:35Speaker 17: do all season where you sub out.
- 38:37Speaker 30: You know, I don't know yet, but based off what
- 38:40Speaker 30: I could what I could see, like that's how he's
- 38:42Speaker 30: gonna sub.
- 38:43Speaker 8: Just because.
- 38:45Speaker 30: We play so fast, you get a lot of possessions, Like,
- 38:48Speaker 30: guys are gonna get a little tired, and the way
- 38:50Speaker 30: we play, you can't.
- 38:51Speaker 8: You don't really got time to be tired.
- 38:53Speaker 30: So you are tired, you could get a quick like
- 38:56Speaker 30: two minute break and then go back in.
- 38:59Speaker 8: Then that's when other thing.
- 39:00Speaker 30: Like a lot of kids don't want to ask to
- 39:02Speaker 30: come out because they know their coach ain't gonna put
- 39:05Speaker 30: them back in or something like that. But he's very
- 39:09Speaker 30: he puts people back in the game, and he makes
- 39:11Speaker 30: it very clear that guys like we're gonna have to
- 39:15Speaker 30: play a lot.
- 39:15Speaker 8: Of people because the way we play.
- 39:17Speaker 17: So even in the open scrimmage that that y'all had
- 39:20Speaker 17: out here with with both teams drum the floor that
- 39:23Speaker 17: the refs were worn out. Is that we need to
- 39:26Speaker 17: let the refs know to bring their a game when
- 39:29Speaker 17: they come cover your guys games.
- 39:31Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. You gotta you gotta get
- 39:34Speaker 8: to know the refs.
- 39:34Speaker 30: There's actually a lot of there are a lot of
- 39:36Speaker 30: cool refs out here. Now, when we get in the
- 39:38Speaker 30: game time, I don't know how cool they'll beat in,
- 39:41Speaker 30: but from when they come to watchingson practice or the
- 39:45Speaker 30: two scrimmages we played, like, I try to talk to
- 39:48Speaker 30: the refs to get a feel of how they are
- 39:50Speaker 30: and try to see what they're gonna call and see
- 39:53Speaker 30: how they're gonna call the game. So most of them
- 39:55Speaker 30: are pretty cool though, So that's something that a lot
- 39:58Speaker 30: of people don't know. But yeah, there's probably a lot
- 40:01Speaker 30: of pressure on him to make the right call and
- 40:03Speaker 30: they probably at halftime, they probably chugging a gallon of water.
- 40:06Speaker 8: I know they tired for sure.
- 40:09Speaker 19: As one of the new.
- 40:10Speaker 20: Guys, what was maybe one of the best inside tips
- 40:12Speaker 20: that Chris gave you to be living here in conversation?
- 40:17Speaker 30: Oh, he just told me that the fans in the community,
- 40:21Speaker 30: they're all great and they're all going to be on
- 40:23Speaker 30: your side like whenever you leave here and when you're here.
- 40:27Speaker 8: So that was something good.
- 40:28Speaker 30: And then just like first couple of days here, I
- 40:31Speaker 30: didn't know where the academic good it was. He was
- 40:33Speaker 30: telling me where it was, so stuff like that.
- 40:37Speaker 1: That's Ryland Griffin from Richardson High School. Did I mention that.
- 40:41Speaker 1: My guess is he'll be one of the starters tonight.
- 40:45Speaker 1: He's a good player. He is a good player. Looking
- 40:51Speaker 1: forward to seeing pop. Isaac's a game time decision. I
- 40:54Speaker 1: suspect we will see him for a few minutes. I
- 40:57Speaker 1: don't know for how long, but I'm just guessing Imbacco
- 41:02Speaker 1: is still going to be a little while. So the
- 41:06Speaker 1: team really hasn't had two of its top three players
- 41:09Speaker 1: yet together in competition, and it may be two or
- 41:15Speaker 1: three more weeks before we see that.
- 41:17Speaker 3: All right, We're going to take a break. This portion
- 41:21Speaker 3: of the show.

- 41:58Speaker 33: Oh Houston, Texan suffered in eighteen fifteen loss at home
- 42:01Speaker 33: did the Denver Broncos On Sunday.
- 42:03Speaker 31: C J.
- 42:03Speaker 33: Stroud left the game after suffering a concussion in the
- 42:05Speaker 33: first half. Stroud was attempting to slide down when he
- 42:08Speaker 33: took a nasty hit up high, leading to the concussion.
- 42:10Speaker 33: The Texans struggled to move the ball without him. Davis
- 42:13Speaker 33: Mills was at quarterback and with the fifteen to seven lead,
- 42:16Speaker 33: Houston punted six consecutive times, which allowed the Broncos to
- 42:19Speaker 33: claw their way back into it and ultimately earned the
- 42:22Speaker 33: late win. The Broncos outscored the Texans eleven to nothing
- 42:25Speaker 33: in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, Houston's undoing was settling for
- 42:28Speaker 33: five field goals and failing to score a touchdown. Head
- 42:30Speaker 33: coach Tamiko Ryans on the team's red zone shortcomings.
- 42:34Speaker 34: We can do a better job of just you know,
- 42:36Speaker 34: keeping our foot on the gas and being more productive,
- 42:39Speaker 34: a great job of getting in the red zone, and
- 42:41Speaker 34: emy did a great job of really finishing those drive
- 42:43Speaker 34: with points, but we want to finish those drives with
- 42:46Speaker 34: seven impossible.
- 42:47Speaker 33: With the loss, the Texans fall to three and five
- 42:50Speaker 33: on the season. In two and two at home up

- 45:17Speaker 1: Actor John Slattery from mad Men is with me tomorrow.
- 45:22Speaker 1: He has a new movie out called Nuremberg with an
- 45:27Speaker 1: incredible cast that.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Looks really good.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's been a while since I've been in the movies.
- 45:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna uh see if I can't make an exception
- 45:36Speaker 1: to that.
- 45:39Speaker 28: Man.
- 45:40Speaker 1: If you missed the World Series, I'm sorry. If you're
- 45:42Speaker 1: a sports fan, you screwed up. It was phenomenal, the
- 45:46Speaker 1: whole thing, from start to finish, unbelievable. Toronto fans, Believe
- 45:54Speaker 1: me when I say I feel your pain. You're two
- 45:58Speaker 1: outs from winning, You're an inch and a half from
- 46:01Speaker 1: winning in the ninth inning. I feel your pain. I'll
- 46:07Speaker 1: never be over twenty eleven. I will never get over
- 46:11Speaker 1: twenty eleven. You will carry this to your grave. Sorry,
- 46:16Speaker 1: but you will, and you win full more and you're
- 46:21Speaker 1: still gonna think about what happened Saturday night. Dave Roberts,
- 46:26Speaker 1: I'm telling you as unimpressed. Well, I'm going to talk
- 46:30Speaker 1: to the writers again today about how poor some of
- 46:34Speaker 1: these college football coaching decisions are. Every week. Dave Roberts
- 46:39Speaker 1: pulled every single string.
- 46:44Speaker 3: For these seven games.
- 46:46Speaker 1: I'm not sure he had the best team, especially the
- 46:51Speaker 1: way they hit in those seven games. He has great players,
- 46:54Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. They're the Dodgers billion dollar payroll.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Believe me, he has players, but mad every decision he made.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Here's Dave Roberts postgame after Game seven.
- 47:08Speaker 8: You can smell the champagne from here.
- 47:10Speaker 37: You press the right button at every juncture, especially tonight,
- 47:14Speaker 37: but throughout this series.
- 47:16Speaker 8: I don't even know what the question is.
- 47:17Speaker 28: Can you talk a little bit about.
- 47:18Speaker 38: How I just think it just goes down to just
- 47:21Speaker 38: trusting your players. And you know, it's nice when you
- 47:24Speaker 38: can look down the roster and have twenty six guys
- 47:27Speaker 38: that you believe in and know that at some point
- 47:30Speaker 38: in time their numbers are gonna be called.
- 47:32Speaker 15: And and that's kind of what happened.
- 47:34Speaker 38: And so you know, Mickey row I talk about the
- 47:37Speaker 38: game honors you, and you know right there, the game
- 47:39Speaker 38: honitored him. He does things the right way, and he
- 47:41Speaker 38: deserved that moment, and what Yoshi did tonight is unprecedented,
- 47:46Speaker 38: you know, in modern day baseball, and you know, just
- 47:49Speaker 38: the young guys coming out there with the arms and
- 47:52Speaker 38: just the big plays. And again, it's been a long season.
- 47:55Speaker 6: Man.
- 47:55Speaker 38: We start out in Tokyo and ended up north of
- 47:57Speaker 38: the border. So just prior to this group of guys.
- 48:00Speaker 39: Good check in the second row, Dad, what was the
- 48:02Speaker 39: mood in the thug out like when mckel was coming
- 48:04Speaker 39: up there in the ninth and you know, just being
- 48:07Speaker 39: able to manage that game with the way it started
- 48:09Speaker 39: and the deficit you guys face, What did it show
- 48:11Speaker 39: you about your club that you guys were you know, we.
- 48:14Speaker 38: Were going to play twenty seven outs and obviously it
- 48:16Speaker 38: doesn't look great, you know, in that moment, but you know,
- 48:20Speaker 38: I trust him to take the bad and he got
- 48:23Speaker 38: a pitch that he could handle and hit the biggest
- 48:26Speaker 38: hit he's ever had in his life. And obviously at
- 48:29Speaker 38: that point in time, we felt real good about it
- 48:31Speaker 38: and we needed, you know, a next level performance from
- 48:34Speaker 38: Yama and we got it.
- 48:35Speaker 39: Can you walk through just the pitching maneuvers from Snell
- 48:38Speaker 39: to Yama and then sticking with him once you got
- 48:41Speaker 39: to the eleventh. Just kind of what was going through
- 48:42Speaker 39: your brain those last couple of innings.
- 48:45Speaker 38: Gosh, yeah, I'm still trying to unpack it.
- 48:49Speaker 15: Yeah, Snell was good.
- 48:50Speaker 38: I just felt that, you know, he gave us what
- 48:52Speaker 38: he had, and I think Glass pitched before him. Honestly,
- 48:57Speaker 38: I just kind of try to push guys as much
- 48:59Speaker 38: as could, and you know, havingn Emmitt in there and
- 49:03Speaker 38: you know, Robo doing his thing got some big outs.
- 49:06Speaker 38: And for me, at that point in time, I wanted
- 49:08Speaker 38: to give you know, Rokian or Yama Mode an opportunity
- 49:13Speaker 38: to keep the game, you know, at Bay.
- 49:16Speaker 15: And then you know, once.
- 49:17Speaker 38: He did that, he felt confident that he could stay
- 49:20Speaker 38: in his delivery, wasn't going to compromise health. And then
- 49:23Speaker 38: at that point in time, even for that third out,
- 49:25Speaker 38: that third up, he said, daijobu means I'm okay. And
- 49:29Speaker 38: so for me, I just trusted him and he came
- 49:31Speaker 38: up big again.
- 49:32Speaker 39: We've asked you about the dynasty question a couple of
- 49:35Speaker 39: times over the years. I mean, do you look at
- 49:37Speaker 39: this as cementing that just what is going back to
- 49:39Speaker 39: back and winning three and six years kind of mean
- 49:41Speaker 39: to what you guys would put together here.
- 49:44Speaker 15: I mean, we've put together something pretty special.
- 49:46Speaker 38: I do know that I'm proud of, you know, the players,
- 49:50Speaker 38: for the fans, scouting, player development, all this stuff to do.
- 49:54Speaker 38: What we've done in this you know, span of time
- 49:57Speaker 38: is pretty remarkable, and I guess I'll let it. Let
- 50:01Speaker 38: the you know, pundits and all the fans talk about
- 50:03Speaker 38: if it's a dynasty or not.
- 50:04Speaker 15: But I'm pretty happy with where we're at.
- 50:07Speaker 37: Steve and the Jim, congratulations. I want to ask you
- 50:09Speaker 37: a couple of questions about Yamamodo. Uh you've dealt with
- 50:13Speaker 37: pictures before. Is there something in his physiology? The way
- 50:18Speaker 37: he approaches what he did tonight is sort of unheard of.
- 50:22Speaker 38: It's unheard of, and I think that there's a mind component,
- 50:26Speaker 38: there's a delivery which is a flawless delivery, and there's
- 50:32Speaker 38: just an unwavering will. I just haven't seen it. I
- 50:37Speaker 38: really haven't. And you know, all that combined, and there's
- 50:41Speaker 38: certain players that want moments, and there's certain players that
- 50:44Speaker 38: you know, want it for the right reason. But you know,
- 50:46Speaker 38: Yoshi is a guy that I just completely implicitly trust
- 50:50Speaker 38: and he's made me a pretty dang good manager.
- 50:53Speaker 35: Are there things though, that's just part of his makeup.
- 50:56Speaker 37: Does he throw differently because you usually are not able
- 50:59Speaker 37: to do what he did tonight, throw a lot of pitches?
- 51:02Speaker 28: And then is there something just in his style?
- 51:05Speaker 38: Well, it's it's just he uses his body very efficiently,
- 51:08Speaker 38: and it's the whole engine that works and not just
- 51:10Speaker 38: the arm. So he's just very efficient with his delivery.
- 51:12Speaker 38: Can you just expect I can't go into all that,
- 51:15Speaker 38: that's not no, okay no, but.
- 51:17Speaker 8: We'll go to Jim.
- 51:20Speaker 40: I guess my first question would be, how do you
- 51:22Speaker 40: say bulldog in Japanese?
- 51:24Speaker 15: Yeah, good question. We had a lot of people that
- 51:26Speaker 15: can answer that question.
- 51:28Speaker 40: I mean, how you know what he did tonight what
- 51:31Speaker 40: Bueller did in the ninth inning last year?
- 51:33Speaker 28: I mean similarities, differences? What what did you see?
- 51:38Speaker 15: Yeah? Similarities?
- 51:40Speaker 38: You know, Walkers is obviously in Dodger lore, and you know,
- 51:43Speaker 38: Yoshi just put himself right there with him, you know,
- 51:45Speaker 38: throwing a hundred pitches and come back after a one
- 51:47Speaker 38: day off and going three innings.
- 51:49Speaker 15: It's it's pretty uh, pretty crazy.
- 51:52Speaker 38: I'm kind of crazy for sending him back out there,
- 51:54Speaker 38: but you know, I just felt he was the best option.
- 51:57Speaker 38: And again, I just It's something that I just never imagined.
- 52:02Speaker 38: But you got to trust players, and I believed in him.
- 52:05Speaker 38: We all believed in him. And yeah, this this game again,
- 52:09Speaker 38: I'm having a hard time unpacking it. Just what a
- 52:11Speaker 38: great series, what a great game, And I think we're
- 52:13Speaker 38: gonna be talking about this game for a long time.
- 52:15Speaker 28: Any other thing.
- 52:16Speaker 40: I mean, you guys started in March in Japan. You
- 52:19Speaker 40: started before anybody else, and you're the last team standing.
- 52:23Speaker 28: And there's been there's been a lot of ups and
- 52:25Speaker 28: downs this season. I mean, if you could put that
- 52:28Speaker 28: into a few words, what this what this roller coaster
- 52:32Speaker 28: has been like this year?
- 52:33Speaker 38: Yeah, I mean you can look back at the miles
- 52:35Speaker 38: that we've logged this year. I think Brene Brown comes
- 52:38Speaker 38: to mind. Grit, you know, the real definition of grit,
- 52:41Speaker 38: passion and perseverance for long term goal.
- 52:43Speaker 15: And we never wavered. And it's a long season.
- 52:46Speaker 38: We started, as you said, in Tokyo, and we kept
- 52:48Speaker 38: going and we persevered, and you know we're the last
- 52:52Speaker 38: team standing.
- 52:53Speaker 8: Good to Anthony fittreal straight back, Doc Gretz.
- 52:56Speaker 41: As you said, this was not just a great game,
- 52:57Speaker 41: but a great series. And you know people talk about
- 53:00Speaker 41: in baseball mapping out innings or whatever. There was so
- 53:02Speaker 41: many things that happened the series that could not have
- 53:04Speaker 41: been mapped out as posed.
- 53:05Speaker 15: The eight teams wasn't mapped out.
- 53:07Speaker 41: What can you say about just these two teams just
- 53:09Speaker 41: emptying the tank against each other.
- 53:10Speaker 15: That's what it's about, you know. I mean those guys.
- 53:13Speaker 38: I got so much respect for what John does with
- 53:16Speaker 38: his team and his staff and the organization, and they
- 53:18Speaker 38: gave us everything we had.
- 53:20Speaker 15: It was just a brawl and you know.
- 53:23Speaker 38: Both teams fighting and punching back and responding, and yeah,
- 53:29Speaker 38: I mean, it's just I'm just I'm speechless, I really am.
- 53:33Speaker 38: I mean, that's it's gonna go down in one of
- 53:35Speaker 38: the ages, Anthony. And as I'm answering, I kind of
- 53:38Speaker 38: forgot your question. Did I answer your question?
- 53:41Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 53:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's part of Dave Roberts post game Saturday Night
- 53:48Speaker 1: and just a world series will be talked about a while.
- 53:51Speaker 1: I think just because of the drama every night was
- 53:56Speaker 1: pretty amazing. And I didn't care. I mean I literally
- 54:03Speaker 1: I didn't care who was you know, it doesn't matter me.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I don't like either team particularly, but man, as we
- 54:12Speaker 1: talked about, when your stars produce in the spotlight. I mean,
- 54:18Speaker 1: you can't ask for much more than that. Yeah, there
- 54:21Speaker 1: are guys who come in always in any big event.
- 54:27Speaker 1: I mean Rojas, he didn't play for four games. That
- 54:31Speaker 1: guy made us bigger impact as anybody in the World
- 54:35Speaker 1: Series in three games with his glove and of course
- 54:38Speaker 1: with the ninth inning tying home run phenomenon. But like
- 54:44Speaker 1: I said, that was the first question that they asked
- 54:46Speaker 1: Dave Roberts. You pushed every button, man, You did everything
- 54:52Speaker 1: you had to do. That's why those guys get big bucks.
- 54:56Speaker 1: And that's why I questioned some of the college coaches
- 55:00Speaker 1: who get big bucks, who make decisions they make on Saturdays.
- 55:04Speaker 1: And we've talked about it before. We're we talk about
- 55:07Speaker 1: it again when the writers are here. In about five minutes.
