Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Great the flick with Ben out a.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Shame just in time for these school holidays. We're reviewing
- 0:06Speaker 2: Disney's Moulwana. And then before we talk about the movie,
- 0:10Speaker 2: you got to meet The Rock in Sydney.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I sure did, Smiley. A couple of weeks ago. They
- 0:16Speaker 1: had an event for the media to come and interview
- 0:18Speaker 1: Dwayne Johnson and the star of Moana, Catherine lunger Aya,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and so I got to meet the Rock. I got
- 0:24Speaker 1: to interview him, sit down with him. What a lovely
- 0:27Speaker 1: bloke he is? Did you call him Dwayne or the Rocky? Actually,
- 0:31Speaker 1: they actually said to me beforehand, don't call him the Rock.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Whatever you do, don't call him. And look, I wasn't
- 0:37Speaker 1: dead to. I was no way I was going to
- 0:39Speaker 1: call him the Rock if they told me not to.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I didn't know what was going to happen. He might
- 0:42Speaker 1: soon flex me. But no, Dwayne was lovely. He was
- 0:45Speaker 1: weird calling him Dwayne, but he was lovely. And then
- 0:47Speaker 1: at the end of the interview, He's like, appreciate you, brother,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and I was like, that could be the highlight of
- 0:52Speaker 1: my whole career.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Absolutely, we're used to seeing Dwayne or The Rock in
- 0:57Speaker 2: action movies and wrestling rings. But how does he go wow?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Because in the first two animated films he plays Maui,
- 1:05Speaker 1: the demi god, and he sings, right, He sings and dances,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and which is not really something we've seen The Rock
- 1:11Speaker 1: do in real life in live action. I gotta tell you,
- 1:14Speaker 1: he's awesome. Like he's a full triple threat. He can
- 1:16Speaker 1: do it all. And the classic song from the original film,
- 1:19Speaker 1: of course, is Maui singing You're Welcome. That's his signature song,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and that comes up pretty early in the film. He
- 1:25Speaker 1: does such a good job. He knocks it out of
- 1:27Speaker 1: the park. He looks like he's having the time of
- 1:29Speaker 1: his life. Interestingly enough, you'd think, you know, who better
- 1:32Speaker 1: to play a demi god than The Rock, Like he
- 1:35Speaker 1: already is built like a demi god. Right, But funnily enough,
- 1:38Speaker 1: he didn't have the physique for it, and he had
- 1:41Speaker 1: to wear and I'm not even joking, he had to
- 1:43Speaker 1: wear like a prosthetic suit with fake muscles on it.
- 1:46Speaker 1: She wasn't big enough because he'd just come from doing
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Smashing Machine and it was a bit too lean.
- 1:51Speaker 1: And in an ideal world, he probably would have spent
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, six to nine months just bulking up, didn't
- 1:56Speaker 1: have a chance to do it, went straight into making
- 1:58Speaker 1: this movie. So he had to hold on this suit
- 2:00Speaker 1: that weighed that weighed about fifty kilos or something like that,
- 2:03Speaker 1: dragged that around for the whole movie. He looks huge.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And he's also wearing this wig, this crazy, crazy wig
- 2:10Speaker 1: that he kept as a prop, and he's worn it
- 2:12Speaker 1: to a couple of parties in his house afterwards. So
- 2:15Speaker 1: the Rock is fantastic. But the star of the film,
- 2:17Speaker 1: as I said, is Catherine Lungerya who people will know.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Her dad Jayla Guia from Water Rats. He was in
- 2:24Speaker 1: some of the star Wars in the Schools play school,
- 2:27Speaker 1: so he can sing as well, but he can't hold
- 2:29Speaker 1: a chune like his daughter Catherine. So she was cast
- 2:31Speaker 1: in this film when she was only seventeen years old,
- 2:33Speaker 1: beat out thousands of other hopefuls to get the role.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And she is incredible. She has got such a bright
- 2:41Speaker 1: future ahead of her. Her singing is just amazing, her performance,
- 2:45Speaker 1: her chemistry with the Rock in this film, because they
- 2:48Speaker 1: have this sort of love hate relationship as they form
- 2:50Speaker 1: this unlikely alliance as they voyage across the ocean to
- 2:54Speaker 1: save her people, save the Village. She is just amazing.
- 2:58Speaker 1: She's fantastic itself. You know what, of all of the
- 3:01Speaker 1: Disney live action films, I would put this in my
- 3:04Speaker 1: top five, which some people might say that's a low
- 3:07Speaker 1: bar to clear because many of the other live action
- 3:10Speaker 1: adaptations have actually been terrible. Did you see snow White
- 3:13Speaker 1: last year? Ye oh my gosh, well, I'm sorry, I
- 3:16Speaker 1: can't give you the two hours of your life back
- 3:18Speaker 1: it was a stinker. And a lot of the others,
- 3:20Speaker 1: even The Beauty and the Beast was pretty disappointing. Aladdin
- 3:23Speaker 1: was pretty disappointing. A lot of them have been duds.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But Moana, I think is very authentic to the originals.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's really for kids. Yeah, they love it.
- 3:33Speaker 2: If your kids can only see one movie during the
- 3:35Speaker 2: school holidays, oh.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It's probably Toy Story five. If you can only see one. Look,
- 3:41Speaker 1: in this economy, you probably can't afford to go see
- 3:43Speaker 1: two movies. If you only see one, look, honestly, it
- 3:46Speaker 1: probably is Toy Story five. That is incredible. But if
- 3:48Speaker 1: you can afford to see two or it, certainly if
- 3:51Speaker 1: your kids, if you've got little girls who were big
- 3:53Speaker 1: fans of the animated films. The second animated film made
- 3:56Speaker 1: a billion dollars of the bottom by the way, so
- 3:58Speaker 1: definitely Moana. They will love. It's a lot of fun,
- 4:03Speaker 1: it's good value for the school holidays.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Already been the question everyone waits for. Out of five coconuts,
- 4:08Speaker 2: what's your rating for Mowata.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna give it three and a half, three and
- 4:11Speaker 1: a half. It's a solid bree solid, very solid.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Ben, Hey Ben, thanks for joining us and we'll catch
- 4:16Speaker 2: you next week with another movie review on gold Money
- 4:19Speaker 2: six am.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Thanks Maley,
