- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous people. It is La La Kent And if
- 0:08Speaker 1: you are just landing from outer space, it's the Give
- 0:12Speaker 1: Them Lala podcast. I've got my little ride or die.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hi everyone, it's me. It's jess here.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I am by the way. I had no idea how
- 0:24Speaker 1: short you are until you took your shoes off.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Thank you, because I'm proud.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I'm five to one on a good day, I'm like
- 0:34Speaker 3: just under five to one, but a little over five
- 0:37Speaker 3: that is so cute. It's not cute, it's pathetic. And
- 0:39Speaker 3: I have to say, and I'm not going to say five,
- 0:43Speaker 3: what are you?
- 0:44Speaker 2: I'm five? No, I'd rather say five one. But yeah,
- 0:49Speaker 2: that's me.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So the new house I because ocean's crawling now. I
- 0:54Speaker 1: make everyone take their shoes off. And if you're like
- 0:56Speaker 1: a fixture in the home, like Jessica is, we have
- 1:01Speaker 1: house slippers.
- 1:02Speaker 3: We have house slippers that I accidentally wore home the
- 1:06Speaker 3: other day.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I do it all the.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Time, and it defeats the whole purpose of the house slippers.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I know, right, I looked down on the ground and
- 1:12Speaker 1: was like, Jessica's boots are here, but Jessica is not.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And her slippers are elsewhere.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Went home, but I'm serious. You took the shoes off,
- 1:22Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, well, I do, little peanut,
- 1:25Speaker 1: because Lala said something something and I was like, well,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I'm sure and she said not really.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And I said, Lala, what do you tell I'm the
- 1:33Speaker 3: shortest person you've ever met? And she was like really,
- 1:36Speaker 3: And then I took my boots off, which are like
- 1:38Speaker 3: a chunky heel, and she gasped.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I did, yeah, tiny, little bean, I know, I love it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I mean I love a petite.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Little little assistants rolling around the house.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So I had a pretty amazing weekend.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Oh my god, let's hear because I saw story Instagram
- 2:00Speaker 3: story footage okay, and there's no way this is real,
- 2:05Speaker 3: but I'm just gonna ask it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Were you at the club?
- 2:08Speaker 1: I went to the motherfucking club. Oh my god, I did.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I did it, okay, And I didn't think I was
- 2:15Speaker 1: going to be able to first Before the club. We
- 2:20Speaker 1: it was a girls' night and we had dinner at Delilah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: which was amazing, but it was like early bird special.
- 2:28Speaker 1: We went to I think around six six thirty, but
- 2:32Speaker 1: we went so early because a friend of mine invited
- 2:39Speaker 1: us to go to the Dave Chappelle show, which was
- 2:45Speaker 1: actually a Bob Saggat tribute. So I don't know if
- 2:50Speaker 1: anyone has heard about this. It took place in the
- 2:53Speaker 1: Belly Room. I won't go into details because obviously it was,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know, a very intimate setting. I will say it
- 3:02Speaker 1: was absolutely incredible. Really, I was like, how am I
- 3:07Speaker 1: here right now? I'm witnessing one of the most beautiful
- 3:12Speaker 1: moments that I think I'll ever witness in my whole life.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Oh wow. I mean there were fifty people in this room.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Really, in the belly room.
- 3:21Speaker 3: If you're not from Los Angeles, it's like there's the
- 3:25Speaker 3: Comedy Store, which is the main room, and then the
- 3:27Speaker 3: belly Room is sort of a room next to it,
- 3:29Speaker 3: which is a bit smaller. So yeah, fifty people in
- 3:34Speaker 3: this room.
- 3:35Speaker 2: That's pretty That's.
- 3:35Speaker 1: A lot, right, No, I mean it felt it was
- 3:40Speaker 1: all friends and family of Bob Saggett and obviously people
- 3:45Speaker 1: that worked for Dave Chappelle, and I mean John Mayer
- 3:50Speaker 1: was there with his guitar and it was just like,
- 3:52Speaker 1: jaw on the floor. How am I here witnessing this
- 3:55Speaker 1: right now? This is incredible and in Yeah, so we
- 4:02Speaker 1: got to go and do that I was so thankful.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It'll be a moment I've been thankful. I'll be thankful
- 4:06Speaker 1: for forever and guess so after after it's over, we
- 4:12Speaker 1: go downstairs outside to like the front of the comedy store,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and I'm cool with Collie in a night. At this point,
- 4:19Speaker 1: we're like pushing midnight, right, Wow, Yeah that's late. Yeah
- 4:23Speaker 1: I was late, and Stossy looks me dead in my
- 4:26Speaker 1: fucking eyes and says, we are going to the club
- 4:31Speaker 1: Stacy Stossy Schroeder.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Wait, is that is she a club girl? Because I
- 4:38Speaker 2: don't personally know Stacy, I just know her through you.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Is she a club girl?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Okay? So would you say I'm a club girl? No? Okay,
- 4:45Speaker 1: times me by like a million, that's how much of it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Not club girl? She is okay, awesome, And come to
- 4:53Speaker 1: find out, she just wanted to go to see what
- 4:56Speaker 1: people wear at the club these days. Oh that's hilarious.
- 4:59Speaker 1: She was videoing every She's like, I'm in shock, And
- 5:02Speaker 1: I was also in shock because I'm looking around this
- 5:05Speaker 1: club and everyone. A lot of people have sunglasses on,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and I'm like, there's no sun in here, and you
- 5:16Speaker 1: you ain't Drake, ain't Kanye West are you sure about that.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I'm sure they weren't Drake Ork. It wasn't Drake or Kanye.
- 5:24Speaker 1: No, they have security. These people were like people. They
- 5:29Speaker 1: were like me with sunglasses on.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Okay, and it's dark in the club, So how do
- 5:34Speaker 3: you not tumble down the stairs?
- 5:35Speaker 1: That's what I was wondering. I can't even keep sunglasses
- 5:40Speaker 1: on during the day when I'm like backing out in
- 5:42Speaker 1: my driveway. Yeah, so props to them, but also take
- 5:47Speaker 1: your fucking sunglasses off in the nightclub if you're not
- 5:50Speaker 1: Drake or Kanye West, Like I'm begging you, She's begging you.
- 5:53Speaker 1: But then again, I don't know. Maybe they were famous,
- 5:55Speaker 1: because this this is like a new world for me
- 5:58Speaker 1: because now it's like, oh, they're famous on talk they're YouTubers.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And I'm like, hum, I don't know, Yeah, maybe they were.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But also like, don't wear your sunglasses.
- 6:08Speaker 3: It's just even if you are, even if you are
- 6:10Speaker 3: super famous, it's not it's not. It doesn't make life
- 6:15Speaker 3: easier at the club. And I know it from the footage.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I saw that it's dark in that room. It's not
- 6:20Speaker 3: like it's like I'm just gonna throw these sunglasses on
- 6:22Speaker 3: and my my night's gonna be easier.
- 6:24Speaker 2: No, you have to watch where you're going. You're gonna
- 6:26Speaker 2: run into people.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's just a whole different world. I mean I was
- 6:30Speaker 1: looking around and there was like a group of these guys,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and I mean everyone's in their twenties, right, like early twenties.
- 6:35Speaker 1: You can just tell like babyfaces everywhere, right, Like I've
- 6:40Speaker 1: missed this world, right, Like I'm in Jessica, I'm in
- 6:45Speaker 1: this world again. Okay, Yeah, how crazy is that? Like
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm looking around and I'm like, who is next? Right? Yeah?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It was fun. It was so fun.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, did you have fun?
- 7:00Speaker 3: Or was it more of a I'm going to be
- 7:02Speaker 3: an outsider looking in look at all these clubgoers enjoy it.
- 7:06Speaker 3: But I'm not coming back here for a while.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You know. I think I I loved going. Yeah, I
- 7:13Speaker 1: won't be going back for a while. I think I'm
- 7:16Speaker 1: the type of person who's much more into like, let's
- 7:18Speaker 1: go to a lounge. I don't like screaming trying to
- 7:21Speaker 1: talk to someone. Yeah. And even when I was like
- 7:24Speaker 1: drinking and in my early twenties, like the club was
- 7:28Speaker 1: just not my scene. Do you dance yeah, like yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 1: but I I have a very specific type of music
- 7:38Speaker 1: that I want to hear. Okay, I don't want like
- 7:42Speaker 1: do you know like EDM. I'm like my body doesn't.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Like I'm just now having convulsions trying to keep up
- 7:48Speaker 1: with a beat, right, yes, to like move with it right,
- 7:51Speaker 1: Like I need something that is like chill that I
- 7:54Speaker 1: can lean back with that I can have someone pop
- 7:56Speaker 1: that booty for me, you know, like that's my vibe.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And it wasn't that vibe or it was kind of
- 8:03Speaker 2: just like it's all over the place.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Okay, all of it. I had the best time good,
- 8:07Speaker 1: but the best time good. But here's here's where it
- 8:10Speaker 1: gets sad. Oh no, this was not just a night
- 8:14Speaker 1: out that we were like on a win, let's do it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: We planned this night on New Year's Eve. The moms
- 8:21Speaker 1: we said let everyone, when can we do it? And
- 8:24Speaker 1: we all looked at our calendar and we were like,
- 8:26Speaker 1: January fifteenth, is everyone free? And my mom was like,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're taking my daughter out? Yeah, I'll watch the baby.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Jacks was like, please go have a girl's night.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I think that's sweet.
- 8:38Speaker 3: In all the books, they're like, you guys, remember three
- 8:41Speaker 3: weeks from now we're going out to the club and
- 8:45Speaker 3: put it on your calendar, like, here's what's happened.
- 8:48Speaker 1: No, that's exactly what happened. So that was that was
- 8:52Speaker 1: my weekend. I got in at one thirty am. That's
- 8:56Speaker 1: actually pretty early for the club. And I'm little disappointed,
- 8:59Speaker 1: a little late for La La. I was like, it's
- 9:01Speaker 1: time for bad one thirty am. How did you feel
- 9:04Speaker 1: the next day? Tired? And I know that I'd like,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I have a big week this week, like this week
- 9:10Speaker 1: is a long one. So I just knew. I knew
- 9:16Speaker 1: Sunday is my day of rest. Sunday's just like the Lord. Yes,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I may or may not have been in my pajamas
- 9:24Speaker 1: all day. That's another story. We won't get into it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We won't get into it. Before we cut to our
- 9:33Speaker 1: short break. Let's talk about the tour we're doing it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Give them Laala is going on tour. We are starting
- 9:41Speaker 1: in Irvine, California. Then we're going to Fort Lauderdale, Clearwater, Orlando,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Sorry Orlando. I was too excited to get to Hot
- 9:51Speaker 1: Lanta that it came out of Orlando, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston, Austin,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and Dallas. I am so excited. This tour is gonna
- 10:00Speaker 1: be lit af. I'm excited to meet you guys. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: want to talk about it all. So if you don't
- 10:06Speaker 1: have your tickets already, go to give them live dot com.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And remember if you bought tickets to the tour that
- 10:13Speaker 1: was gonna happen, those are still very much valid and
- 10:17Speaker 1: I will see you in your city to get it
- 10:20Speaker 1: poppin love me a good pop up pop pop pap.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Also for my podcast listeners, because today is a super
- 10:29Speaker 1: exciting podcast. Yeah it is. It's gonna be really fun.
- 10:33Speaker 1: In fact, I actually feel bad talking about the club
- 10:36Speaker 1: on this podcast because today is a very sweet podcast
- 10:39Speaker 1: and we're talking about all things children and love and innocence.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So I want to give my podcast listeners twenty percent
- 10:47Speaker 1: off of give them La La Baby. All you have
- 10:49Speaker 1: to do is go to give them La La Baby
- 10:51Speaker 1: dot com. Nothing on the site is off limits, throw
- 10:54Speaker 1: it in the bag and just use code podcast twenty
- 10:58Speaker 1: at checkout and enjoy your goods. We are going to
- 11:01Speaker 1: cut to a short break and we're going to be
- 11:03Speaker 1: back with some voicemails about Ocean biting the shit out
- 11:08Speaker 1: of me and how I get her to stop doing it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: We'll be right back. We are back.
- 11:18Speaker 2: We're back.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Okay, So before we get into these voicemails, Yeah, I
- 11:21Speaker 3: have a question.
- 11:22Speaker 1: What's your question?
- 11:23Speaker 2: I said, I was going to keep asking. I want
- 11:26Speaker 2: to know how the DM game is going.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Oh, the DM game. I've I only did the one
- 11:34Speaker 1: slide in okay, right, the DM is poppin' though, Like
- 11:39Speaker 1: the DM is where it's at.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Oh my god, I know, and I had no idea. No,
- 11:45Speaker 3: that's that's what it is these days. Though you don't
- 11:47Speaker 3: need to go out, you.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Don't need to go to the bars. Slide in the DM.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Is Instagram like a dating app kind of. I mean
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's seen. I mean you're asking the wrong person, that's right.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You've had a boyfriend for a long time.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think it can be anything can
- 12:01Speaker 3: be a dating app if you try hard enough.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean it feels like that's where people like. Sliding
- 12:07Speaker 1: in the DM is like the new swipe, right.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know what it's.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I feel like it's more because you can find out
- 12:14Speaker 3: a lot a lot about a person that way.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I go to your page, I'm.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Gonna see videos, I'm gonna see your demeanor, cute photos,
- 12:22Speaker 3: see what you're into, so that gives you more Listen.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I've never been on the dating apps, but I've heard
- 12:27Speaker 3: it's like limited information. Yeah, so you only have a
- 12:30Speaker 3: few photos, you only have that quick bio.
- 12:33Speaker 1: That's what terrifies me, though, jess this is my what
- 12:36Speaker 1: terrifies me the most. Yes, like I slid in the
- 12:39Speaker 1: DM a while back. If I continue to slide in
- 12:43Speaker 1: the DM, first of all, I don't like it makes
- 12:46Speaker 1: me feel weird. I just feel like I'm giving a
- 12:48Speaker 1: piece of myself to someone where I'm like, I don't
- 12:50Speaker 1: even know if you deserve it.
- 12:52Speaker 2: That's true, you know, point Yeah?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Yeah, But do you think that when I start talking
- 13:01Speaker 1: to boys that they google me?
- 13:04Speaker 2: One hundred thousand percent?
- 13:05Speaker 1: That is terrifying and I would like them to not
- 13:07Speaker 1: do that. What.
- 13:08Speaker 2: No, I don't. Why do you think that I just don't.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Want them googling me? Yeah, I just don't. It's like,
- 13:16Speaker 1: just right, keep my name out right because you.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Can't control what pops up.
- 13:22Speaker 1: First.
- 13:23Speaker 3: No, I think it's cool that you're googleable because when
- 13:26Speaker 3: you google me, it's like someone from Idaho who is
- 13:30Speaker 3: like a newscaster, or like Jessica Walter who was on
- 13:33Speaker 3: arrested development and passed away.
- 13:36Speaker 2: God rest her soul.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I would rather have that, really, yes, because then it's
- 13:40Speaker 1: like I have no control over what people can google, right. Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: If the only place you can find me is my
- 13:45Speaker 1: own Instagram, that I can control, I dig that. I
- 13:48Speaker 1: don't want you watching the show. I don't want you
- 13:50Speaker 1: googling shit. I don't want you hashtagging my name and
- 13:54Speaker 1: your little freaking search bar.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah nerve No, Okay, let me ask you this. Do
- 13:59Speaker 3: you google someone if you were interested? Would you google
- 14:02Speaker 3: this person?
- 14:03Speaker 4: No?
- 14:04Speaker 1: I usually just no, I just go to the gram.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and you find it that way.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yes? Why would I go to Google and I can
- 14:11Speaker 1: go to the gram.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Because you might find information that they haven't told you.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I google everyone.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I google everyone. I google Kyle, I google you.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I'm googling every.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Day, Lisa.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I think I should start googling, but I get it.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I get it.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Listen, if you slide in Lalla's DMS and you shoot
- 14:31Speaker 3: your shot and you guys get a conversation.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Going, don't google her.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Don't google me, just go off go and watch Vanner
- 14:41Speaker 1: Pump Rules either. Oh well, okay, because I feel like
- 14:45Speaker 1: the type of guy that I'm into like does not
- 14:48Speaker 1: watch Vanner Pump Rules, and I would like it to
- 14:50Speaker 1: stay that way. Yeah, okay, with all that all being said,
- 14:55Speaker 1: now you're making me sweat purposely talking about dms and men.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Okay, So then we'll go to the voicemails, because if
- 15:03Speaker 3: you want to refresh the listeners. You asked a question.
- 15:07Speaker 3: You asked for some Ocean advice last episode.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I think yes, So Ocean has very little hair, but
- 15:13Speaker 1: a lot of teeth, six of them, okay, And I
- 15:20Speaker 1: still breastfeed and that's a comfort to her. So sometimes
- 15:25Speaker 1: she'll bite the nips, but she looks at me and
- 15:27Speaker 1: smiles and she knows it's a little bit of a game.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But mostly it's like when I'm holding her, she's biting
- 15:34Speaker 1: my shoulder, or like when I try to do her nail,
- 15:36Speaker 1: she's biting my arm, and it's like, no joke, all right,
- 15:39Speaker 1: Those little razor blade teeth really can fuck you up.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So I asked you guys to give me advice on
- 15:46Speaker 1: how to get her to stop biting. Let's roll the
- 15:49Speaker 1: first voicemail.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Hi, Laala, my name is Michelle. I have been a
- 15:53Speaker 4: huge fan of yours since the beginning, but especially now
- 15:58Speaker 4: I saw on your Instagram story were asking about ocean
- 16:02Speaker 4: and how to prevent babies from biting when it hurts,
- 16:08Speaker 4: and you can't really tell them that. So I wanted
- 16:10Speaker 4: to tell you an experience that I had when I
- 16:13Speaker 4: was a baby. I was apparently a terrible biter, and
- 16:18Speaker 4: my mom was very, very frustrated, and one day she
- 16:22Speaker 4: just took my arm and she hit me back, and
- 16:24Speaker 4: I never better again, and I'm totally fine. I'm twenty
- 16:29Speaker 4: seven and I've made it my whole life. I don't
- 16:32Speaker 4: have any bite marks, who was an unt of youth
- 16:34Speaker 4: or anything like that, but it showed me that it hurts,
- 16:38Speaker 4: so I stopped biting her after that. I hope that
- 16:44Speaker 4: back could potentially help you. I'm thinking of you, and
- 16:48Speaker 4: I love the podcast. Talk to you soon, say.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Michelle. Oh my gosh. Okay. First of all, just the
- 16:59Speaker 1: way that you told that story was awesome. Okay, so
- 17:02Speaker 1: this is what I've heard too, because my little brother
- 17:04Speaker 1: used to be a bier and my mom and my
- 17:06Speaker 1: grandpa bit him back stop yes, yes, on the arm
- 17:12Speaker 1: or something wherever I guess, I don't know the arm.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Wherever they bite you, I guess is where you bite
- 17:19Speaker 1: them back. Oh my god, but it freaks me out,
- 17:24Speaker 1: Like if if Ocean bites me, I don't think I
- 17:27Speaker 1: could bring myself to bite her bite her back.
- 17:31Speaker 3: My god, No I would if I saw that, if
- 17:34Speaker 3: I walked in and saw you buy Ocean, I'd be like,
- 17:36Speaker 3: what is going on?
- 17:37Speaker 1: Because I've attempted, because I knew that the Easton was
- 17:41Speaker 1: a bitter I've attempted to like bite her. It's obviously
- 17:45Speaker 1: not hard because I don't think I could bring myself
- 17:46Speaker 1: to do that. But now, like hearing a voicemail like this,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I'm like, maybe I we'll just bite the shit out
- 17:50Speaker 1: of her. I'm just kidding.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But she laughs.
- 17:54Speaker 1: When I did it, she was like laughing about it.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Because you probably this is probably this is like, you know,
- 17:59Speaker 3: she's twenty seven, Michelle's twenty seven.
- 18:01Speaker 2: This is back in the day. It was probably a
- 18:03Speaker 2: nice bite.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you probably do was strong, yeah or something, and
- 18:09Speaker 3: mars were left, keith marks were left, and you probably
- 18:12Speaker 3: did a fun little like.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Oh, well that's exactly what I did. Yeah. I literally
- 18:18Speaker 1: softly bit her and said that, you know, bite the
- 18:20Speaker 1: mom oh, and she laughed.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yes, she probably wanted it probably made her want to
- 18:26Speaker 2: do it.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's me dead in my eyeballs and laughed.
- 18:31Speaker 2: That's really funny.
- 18:33Speaker 1: There was one person that told me when they do that,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you flick up, and I was like, nope.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You flick on kill.
- 18:39Speaker 1: No, I'm not flicking my baby. Oh my, I can't.
- 18:42Speaker 3: No, no, I know when when it well, you can't
- 18:45Speaker 3: put hot sauce.
- 18:46Speaker 2: You could put hot sauce all.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Over your body because when babies bite their nails. When
- 18:51Speaker 3: I used to bite my nails is like a bad habit.
- 18:54Speaker 3: My mom put hot sauce on the top of my fingers.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I was like six, and so I'd go to bite
- 19:00Speaker 3: and then burn it burned my mouth, but then I
- 19:02Speaker 3: just rinse my hands off.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So that doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. Okay, Well,
- 19:07Speaker 1: let's see what other voicemails people have left and see
- 19:10Speaker 1: if they have the Yeah, the biting.
- 19:13Speaker 2: That was funny though, Michelle.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Okay, Hi, my name is Nina. I'm a mom of
- 19:20Speaker 5: a three year old and newly pregnant again. But girl,
- 19:24Speaker 5: I've been there with the teeth biting. Oh my god. Okay,
- 19:28Speaker 5: So something that was really helpful for us. There's a
- 19:31Speaker 5: book called Teeth or Not for biting by Elizabeth Verdick.
- 19:36Speaker 4: It's really cute.
- 19:38Speaker 5: You can get it on Amazon. But we would read
- 19:41Speaker 5: that book every single day. We also have a Feelings
- 19:45Speaker 5: Corner in our room, something by Generation Mindful. Check it out.
- 19:50Speaker 5: You create a nice safe space to talk about feelings
- 19:52Speaker 5: and things. You can hear my little one in the background. Anyway,
- 19:56Speaker 5: we would go there and we would talk about it,
- 19:58Speaker 5: and it was super helpful. If you're not for biting,
- 20:01Speaker 5: good luck.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to get that book because I can't
- 20:05Speaker 1: say that I'm fully sold on the biting of my baby. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I just can't gnaw on her like she's a fucking
- 20:11Speaker 1: chicken wing. It doesn't feel right, you.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Know, especially if she laughs. It doesn't work.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It doesn't work. And I'm not willing to bite her
- 20:18Speaker 1: any harder at the age of ten months. Okay, Yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but I like the feeling corner where like you go
- 20:25Speaker 1: and you can express your feelings and all of that stuff.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I have a feeling that Ocean's gonna be a feeler
- 20:32Speaker 1: because she is a water baby to her core, okay,
- 20:36Speaker 1: and she's you know her, she's very chill. She's an
- 20:40Speaker 1: angel baby. Like literally, we go out put her in
- 20:43Speaker 1: a high chair. You don't even know she's there. Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But when she's done, she's done. She's done. Yeah, Like
- 20:49Speaker 1: there's no build up. It's like chill too, I'm over it,
- 20:53Speaker 1: put me to bed. Has no time for you trying
- 20:56Speaker 1: to like do what you're doing, you know. And she's
- 21:00Speaker 1: on a very tight schedule. So I know that when
- 21:02Speaker 1: she's older, she's gonna be stuck in how she's feeling.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And I have friends that are pisces and they're waterworks.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I thought I was sensitive. I deal with my best
- 21:12Speaker 1: friend Madison, who's a Pisces. The two of us together
- 21:15Speaker 1: sobbing messes all the time, all the fields.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Really, Oh, I didn't know Madison was a Pisce's that's
- 21:23Speaker 3: beautiful that your Madison is for anyone who's been living
- 21:27Speaker 3: under a ruck. Lala's a best friend in the whole
- 21:29Speaker 3: wide world. And they're like sisters.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And the fact that you have a daughter.
- 21:33Speaker 1: They're one day apart their birthdays. Oh, I know, God,
- 21:37Speaker 1: I know.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Were you a feelings kid, I can't I was.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I don't know that. I was like in my feelings
- 21:44Speaker 1: like that, like a big crier, but I was hyper.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I don't remember crying a lot I remember being hyper
- 21:52Speaker 1: sensitive to other people's emotions around me though. Yeah. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 1: like I was a super independent case, which Ocean is
- 22:01Speaker 1: is going to be the same way. I can see it. Yeah.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I can't even feed her anymore. She has to feed herself,
- 22:08Speaker 1: which crazy, So all the baby spoons I just bought
- 22:11Speaker 1: her are a waste, like because she can't control her
- 22:15Speaker 1: hand yet to feed herself. Yeah, but yeah, she has
- 22:18Speaker 1: no interest in you doing anything. Yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I like the feelings corner idea. I think that's really
- 22:23Speaker 3: sweet and cute. And when I used to babysit and nanny,
- 22:26Speaker 3: we had a feeling step for one of the so
- 22:28Speaker 3: it was like three steps up the stairs. Yeah, and
- 22:31Speaker 3: we'd sit there, yeah, and I'd say, why did you
- 22:34Speaker 3: just make that decision? And we talk about right, what
- 22:37Speaker 3: was making you feel like you had to hit your sister, right,
- 22:41Speaker 3: that kind of stuff.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So I think that's cute. My mom told me that
- 22:43Speaker 1: it's super important when you have kids and you do
- 22:46Speaker 1: time out, that you never make them do time out
- 22:49Speaker 1: in their bedroom because their bedroom is supposed to bring
- 22:51Speaker 1: them a lot of peace and it shouldn't be for punishment,
- 22:54Speaker 1: Like you don't want them to associate their bedroom with punishment. Yes,
- 22:58Speaker 1: so to have like the thirds or sitting in the corner.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I heard that, and that makes sense because when
- 23:04Speaker 3: I used to go to time out, I loved it.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I'll spend all day in here in my bedroom. I'll
- 23:08Speaker 2: draw color.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Too many activities? You have any activities to be sitting
- 23:12Speaker 1: in time out?
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yes, that's a great tip though.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was good. I thought it was
- 23:17Speaker 1: a good one. So anytime that ocean acts a damn fool,
- 23:23Speaker 1: gonna place her somewhere that is not that fun. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 1: what's the next voicemail?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Next voicemail?
- 23:30Speaker 6: Hi long. My name is Sarah and I'm a mom
- 23:33Speaker 6: of two boys to a six year old and an
- 23:35Speaker 6: eleven year old. To answer your question about the biting,
- 23:38Speaker 6: I simply just put my finger in my son's mouth
- 23:43Speaker 6: to help stop biting. Lately, my eleven month old wants
- 23:47Speaker 6: to bite my shoulder. He'll go for the boo when
- 23:50Speaker 6: he wants to breastfeed. So I just simply put my
- 23:54Speaker 6: finger in his mouth and say ouch, and then he
- 23:56Speaker 6: kind of looks at me.
- 23:57Speaker 5: And he's like, oh, okay, I letter not bite.
- 23:59Speaker 6: I hope that help thinks. Bye?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Okay, Sarah, that I can get down with. I can
- 24:04Speaker 1: get down with the ouch. And here's the thing. I
- 24:06Speaker 1: am not bite shaming anybody. You you want to teach
- 24:09Speaker 1: your kid not to bite, you lay a bite on
- 24:12Speaker 1: him like you do, you boo, like whatever. We all
- 24:16Speaker 1: got our own thing. We're all just doing what we
- 24:19Speaker 1: can do to have nice kids around, right, Yes, But
- 24:25Speaker 1: the ouch thing, it's all about the word and the tone. Yeah, okay.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So I'm gonna shove my finger into Ocean's mouth and
- 24:33Speaker 1: when she bites it, shove it it, not shove it, yes,
- 24:36Speaker 1: place it delicately in her mouth. And when she bites me,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna say ouch.
- 24:45Speaker 2: And scare the living shit out of.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Her the way I talked to Oh, oh, do you
- 24:52Speaker 1: hear to mama? That's why she just still bite.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I was gonna say that seems like she would laugh
- 24:57Speaker 3: and then keep doing it. Yes, But I love her
- 24:59Speaker 3: so much, I know, and it's almost like, Oh, she's
- 25:02Speaker 3: everything that I said.
- 25:04Speaker 1: If my baby does this, this is what I'm gonna do.
- 25:08Speaker 1: My baby is kind of doing. And it's like, it's
- 25:12Speaker 1: so cute when she bites me. It's so cute when
- 25:16Speaker 1: she screams bloody murder in her crib. You know, it's
- 25:22Speaker 1: all so cute. And I can now see when when
- 25:24Speaker 1: you go out to dinner and people's kids are running
- 25:26Speaker 1: around and you're like, can you shut them up and
- 25:28Speaker 1: make it stop, and they're looking at him laughing. It's
- 25:31Speaker 1: because there's nothing your kid does that is like not cute. Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you literally think it's all like totally tolerable. Yeah, Oh god,
- 25:39Speaker 1: am I saying this, And I'm gonna have the kid
- 25:41Speaker 1: that's running around Ggi Friday is screaming at everybody throwing shit.
- 25:45Speaker 3: No, because I think she'll be the kind of kid
- 25:47Speaker 3: like you were just saying, in her feelings, that's like
- 25:49Speaker 3: coloring at the table and letting mommy and gg have
- 25:53Speaker 3: a nice night.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Have a nice sparkling water. Sparkling water take the edge
- 25:57Speaker 1: off of the day.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That it's cute.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I like that idea, though, saying ouch, but maybe like
- 26:03Speaker 3: a sad like ouch.
- 26:05Speaker 1: She might still laugh though, well, she does laugh when
- 26:08Speaker 1: I pretend cry, so maybe it isn't much of a feeler.
- 26:13Speaker 1: If she's laughing at me while I'm crying, I'm gonna
- 26:16Speaker 1: say she's the stone cold.
- 26:18Speaker 2: She's like the Grinch. When the Grinch was a baby, like.
- 26:21Speaker 1: No, she is the Grinch, doesn't She kind of look
- 26:24Speaker 1: like the baby Grinch. The baby Grinch is adorable, by
- 26:28Speaker 1: the way. Baby Grinch is so so cute. But he
- 26:30Speaker 1: has those big brown eyes and just the little swoop
- 26:33Speaker 1: of hair, a little swoop, and Ocean has that she does.
- 26:36Speaker 1: She has banks. I'm in fear that she's gonna have
- 26:41Speaker 1: a mullet, But what am I gonna do but extensions?
- 26:44Speaker 1: Then she don't really have a mullet. That's why you
- 26:48Speaker 1: just stick with the bows.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and they look cute and she loves them,
- 26:52Speaker 3: so yeah.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But a lot of people on my Instagram, not a lot,
- 26:56Speaker 1: very few actually, but I still notice them are like,
- 26:59Speaker 1: you're a baby has bows on all the time, You
- 27:01Speaker 1: need to take them off. This is Instagram. This is
- 27:06Speaker 1: for a photograph, right, Shut the fuck up. You're not
- 27:10Speaker 1: living at my house, because if you did, you would
- 27:13Speaker 1: see my baby and pajamas and onesies and no bow
- 27:16Speaker 1: on covered in food constantly because she literally hulks her
- 27:21Speaker 1: bib off, hulks her bibof. I've never seen strength like Oceans.
- 27:26Speaker 2: No, she and it. One second the bibs on, you
- 27:29Speaker 2: turn your you turn your head, it's off.
- 27:31Speaker 1: But it's a ripping it off, like the same with
- 27:34Speaker 1: her bows. She gets tired. That thing is being incredible
- 27:37Speaker 1: hulked off of her Yeah okay, yeah, and the things
- 27:41Speaker 1: that she's able to move. I'm impressed by her strength.
- 27:45Speaker 1: She could very well be an MM fighter.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Maybe that's her future. Is that a wrestler an MMA fighter?
- 27:52Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I don't know the difference between like the MMA kick
- 27:56Speaker 3: like all the I think Connor McGregor is the same
- 27:59Speaker 3: as like Dionne Wilder or Deontay Wilder.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think they are.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Are they Okay? Well, then there you go. There you go,
- 28:06Speaker 2: like Hull Cogan is in that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: No, hu is a wrestler. See, it is different.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It's different.
- 28:13Speaker 1: An MMA fighter. They have boxing gloves. A wrestler, I
- 28:17Speaker 1: think doesn't have gloves.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Is this true?
- 28:29Speaker 1: That's how you tell the difference the gloves. Do you
- 28:32Speaker 1: wear gloves? We fight? One's a boxer, one's a wrestler.
- 28:37Speaker 2: But there's something.
- 28:38Speaker 3: There's boxer wrestlers, and now I know there is you're right,
- 28:43Speaker 3: boxer wrestler, and they're all different.
- 28:46Speaker 2: They're all different.
- 28:47Speaker 1: They're all different. Yeah, okay, so how did we get
- 28:50Speaker 1: on wrestlers? What was it?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Oh, the ocean might be one full circle.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Now we got onto it. Do we have time for
- 28:58Speaker 1: one more? Yes?
- 28:59Speaker 2: This is the great?
- 29:00Speaker 7: Okay, Hey, well, my name is Hillary and I a
- 29:04Speaker 7: license mental health canclor and fellow beastfeeding mom and I
- 29:08Speaker 7: saw your question about how to not get baby Ocean
- 29:11Speaker 7: to bite when she's nursing, and at that age all
- 29:17Speaker 7: behavior is based on association. So the best thing you
- 29:20Speaker 7: can do is take that booby away every time she
- 29:24Speaker 7: bites you, and she'll stop real quick. Good luck and
- 29:28Speaker 7: hopefully those teeth stop biting anything that they're not supposed
- 29:33Speaker 7: to have a good.
- 29:35Speaker 1: One, Hillary, I love the thought of taking something away
- 29:39Speaker 1: from Ocean that she but it's so comforting. And can
- 29:42Speaker 1: I tell you this is what she does. She'll be
- 29:44Speaker 1: on the boob and suki sucky, loving it, living for it.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Once she's done, like she's full, then the nipple becomes
- 29:55Speaker 1: a chew toy and it's like Max, you have Oh
- 30:00Speaker 1: I do that's fun? Like that's what it turns into.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I turn into the grinch and Max not letting go.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Oh my god, otion is Max?
- 30:08Speaker 1: Oh my nipple is.
- 30:10Speaker 2: So you're saying if so, you're saying if you were
- 30:13Speaker 2: to take this advice and take the boob away, she'd
- 30:16Speaker 2: be like.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm fine, I'm full, let's take it away. Like at
- 30:19Speaker 1: this point it's just a chew toy.
- 30:21Speaker 3: So it's probably the delicate balance between knowing when she's
- 30:24Speaker 3: full and right before she starts biting that you have
- 30:27Speaker 3: to like be like, okay, we're done and popping out.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Yes, And when I say how that hurts, she still
- 30:33Speaker 1: has it lightly in between her teeth and goes hm
- 30:37Speaker 1: and looks at me with a giant smile and laughing,
- 30:41Speaker 1: And it's so cute. It's so cute babies are. Even
- 30:45Speaker 1: though my nipples are on the verge of bleeding after
- 30:47Speaker 1: she does it, I'm like, you are so cute. I
- 30:49Speaker 1: cannot deal.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I don't know if I can do it one day.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Breastfeed No, I think I can breastfeed, But like having
- 30:57Speaker 3: a teeth around my nipple, it kind of just.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You have no no idea until they start unless they
- 31:02Speaker 1: bite it. Like I have no idea that Ocean has
- 31:04Speaker 1: teeth unless she does that right right? Yeah, yeah, so
- 31:10Speaker 1: where's that? No, breastfeeding is awesome. I still do skin
- 31:13Speaker 1: to skin with Ocean in the bath. You do, yes,
- 31:16Speaker 1: and she's ten months old.
- 31:17Speaker 3: What is that for someone who doesn't know me? Is
- 31:19Speaker 3: it just holding her in the bath when you're both naked.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Skin to skin is like one of the most
- 31:25Speaker 1: important things to do after you give birth. Like they
- 31:28Speaker 1: literally take the baby out of the womb and directly
- 31:32Speaker 1: place them on your chest and it creates such a
- 31:34Speaker 1: bond between you and your baby. And I could not
- 31:38Speaker 1: get enough of it when, oh my gosh, when she
- 31:41Speaker 1: was a newborn, it was constant, like I never stopped.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Now it's harder to do because she's ten months old,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and I just feel like I can't sit downstairs naked
- 31:54Speaker 1: living room with my ten month old who has no
- 31:56Speaker 1: desire to sit still when she's awake. But we do
- 31:59Speaker 1: it at nighttime for bath time, and for some reason,
- 32:03Speaker 1: well not for some reason. I know what it's like
- 32:05Speaker 1: to be in the bath and it feels awesome and
- 32:06Speaker 1: you do get sleepy. Yeah, and she like we have
- 32:09Speaker 1: our skin to skin where she lays directly on me
- 32:12Speaker 1: and I like put the warm water on her back
- 32:13Speaker 1: and she just lays there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Oh that's really sweet.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm rocking that until the wheels fall off. Yeah,
- 32:19Speaker 1: I'm rocking the breastfeeding. I'm rocking the skin to skin,
- 32:22Speaker 1: like I don't want to let it go because I
- 32:24Speaker 1: don't know when I'm gonna have another baby. Yeah yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 1: you know.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah, so so then it sounds like all of this
- 32:30Speaker 3: is really great advice.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I just love hearing people's advice, but also from like
- 32:34Speaker 1: their own personal experiences, you know. Yeah, like we're moms
- 32:39Speaker 1: out here doing the damn thing, and I'm proud of us,
- 32:42Speaker 1: proud of you. It's not easy, and I'm super proud
- 32:47Speaker 1: to know and have this person on my podcast. Today,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I have Jessica Curry and her daughter Parker. And for
- 32:55Speaker 1: those of you who are not familiar with the Parker family,
- 32:58Speaker 1: I was lucky enough to meet them at a park
- 33:00Speaker 1: one day. We connected on Instagram and I remember Parker
- 33:05Speaker 1: being photographed in a museum. She was, I want to say,
- 33:09Speaker 1: around two or three. I'll find out exactly, but she's
- 33:14Speaker 1: staring up at a portrait of Michelle Obama and it
- 33:17Speaker 1: was captured. Her mouth is open, like she cannot believe
- 33:21Speaker 1: what she's looking at, and it went viral. And I've
- 33:24Speaker 1: seen Parker do many interviews, many cooler things than the
- 33:29Speaker 1: Give Them La La podcasts. I'll say that, and she
- 33:33Speaker 1: is the cutest little girl in the entire world, and
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'm so excited to talk to her. I'm excited to
- 33:40Speaker 1: talk to her mama. And the interview is absolutely incredible.
- 33:46Speaker 1: But we did it on a day where I did
- 33:47Speaker 1: not have Jessica present, and I forgot to double click
- 33:53Speaker 1: the record button. But thank god for Zoom because we
- 33:57Speaker 1: captured all of the audio. We have amazing video that's
- 34:00Speaker 1: going to be up on our Instagram page to give
- 34:03Speaker 1: them all a podcast. And when we come back, we're
- 34:06Speaker 1: going to roll that interview. You guys are gonna die,
- 34:09Speaker 1: and you have to make sure to check out my
- 34:11Speaker 1: Instagram page because the videos are even more amazing. We
- 34:16Speaker 1: will be right back with Jessica and Parker Curry. We
- 34:23Speaker 1: are back, and I have two incredible well, I have
- 34:28Speaker 1: an incredible woman who is raising an incredible daughter and
- 34:33Speaker 1: other children. I have Jessica and Parker Curry. I met
- 34:39Speaker 1: you and your mom and dad, and you had two
- 34:41Speaker 1: other kids with you, right, Jessica, you have a daughter
- 34:44Speaker 1: and a son.
- 34:45Speaker 8: Ava and Cash.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Yes, you guys were at the park and I saw
- 34:50Speaker 1: you guys there.
- 34:51Speaker 8: Remember you are the lady with badl Chad with yeah star.
- 34:59Speaker 9: Yeah, we didn't know that when we were at the
- 35:01Speaker 9: park that day. That's the beauty of this story because
- 35:06Speaker 9: she is a normal person, wasn't a disguise, she was
- 35:11Speaker 9: just a mama at the park with her baby.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I think I might have had makeup on that day, Parker,
- 35:16Speaker 1: Laala looks different without her face on.
- 35:18Speaker 9: No, you didn't make up on that day.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know, Okay, So I was. I was
- 35:25Speaker 1: a vibe that day too.
- 35:26Speaker 9: I guess I.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Shot because I think that would be a little too
- 35:32Speaker 1: generous of me to say I've been in some movies.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't call me a star though you're a star,
- 35:36Speaker 1: though you have written books? Is that crazy to see, Parker.
- 35:42Speaker 8: I've been a zoo with thousands of kids who all
- 35:46Speaker 8: had my book.
- 35:47Speaker 1: That was your face. I love this child, Jessica, you
- 35:52Speaker 1: have no idea. Okay. So I met this cute family
- 35:55Speaker 1: at the park. Jessica and I then exchange d MS,
- 35:59Speaker 1: and I immediately already knew who Jessica and Parker Curry
- 36:05Speaker 1: were because they went viral when a photograph was taken
- 36:10Speaker 1: of Parker looking up at a portrait of beautiful Michelle
- 36:16Speaker 1: Obama and and the photograph everybody fell in love, everybody
- 36:22Speaker 1: became obsessed. It was everywhere. Tell me about the moment
- 36:27Speaker 1: that that happened.
- 36:28Speaker 9: You can tell me.
- 36:30Speaker 8: I just slipped up at that portren it just to
- 36:34Speaker 8: write a book. That's the shorter version of my version.
- 36:39Speaker 8: But her version's gonna take like thirty minutes.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I love all the versions.
- 36:47Speaker 8: Is gonna take like half of our time. So he
- 36:50Speaker 8: mean that one for another time.
- 36:55Speaker 9: Well, yeah, Tucker gains the short version. But you know,
- 36:59Speaker 9: we went. I took her and her sister. I'm not
- 37:02Speaker 9: gonna go through the.
- 37:03Speaker 8: Whole thing, but but you're gonna.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Go, like.
- 37:07Speaker 9: I'm gonna get I'll give about the medium version. Can
- 37:11Speaker 9: I give the medium version, short median version? Okay? Okay.
- 37:17Speaker 9: So we took them to the National Portrait Gallery because
- 37:20Speaker 9: I wanted them to see the portrait of Michelle Obama
- 37:25Speaker 9: that had just been unveiled. And going to museums for
- 37:28Speaker 9: us was like not unusual, Like at the time we
- 37:32Speaker 9: lived in d C. Where you know, the Smithsonian museums
- 37:36Speaker 9: are free, which is unusual. So we went and Parker
- 37:41Speaker 9: almost zipped right by the portrait the first time, and
- 37:44Speaker 9: then she came back and obviously, you know how it
- 37:47Speaker 9: is as a mom You're like, you know, I got
- 37:48Speaker 9: I want to get my picture, I want to take
- 37:50Speaker 9: this picture, you know. But she wouldn't turn around for me.
- 37:52Speaker 9: She was literally stuck in that moment, and she was
- 37:55Speaker 9: focused on the portrait and spell bout I love that.
- 38:05Speaker 9: And so I got a picture of her facing the portrait,
- 38:08Speaker 9: and I didn't know that someone else had taken a
- 38:10Speaker 9: picture of her, and that picture clearly showed that her
- 38:15Speaker 9: mouth was wide open. She was having a moment, having
- 38:19Speaker 9: a little moment. And that picture, as you said, subsequently
- 38:23Speaker 9: went viral and I think really inspired a lot of
- 38:26Speaker 9: people and inspired a lot of little kids. And we've
- 38:32Speaker 9: been fortunate that we've had the opportunity to write Parker
- 38:35Speaker 9: Looks Up, which is about that moment, and and Parker
- 38:40Speaker 9: Shines On.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Of course, we can't forget that one.
- 38:44Speaker 9: Forget Parker shines off. It in the background.
- 38:48Speaker 1: It is in the background as it should be.
- 38:51Speaker 9: She has oceans.
- 38:53Speaker 8: Can can I see ocean?
- 38:55Speaker 4: Yes?
- 38:56Speaker 1: Yes, let me bring her in.
- 38:57Speaker 9: We got another party crasher who just came into year.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, such a beautiful family. I saw you
- 39:10Speaker 1: at the park that day and was like, who is
- 39:13Speaker 1: this family? They are so cute and sweet and and
- 39:17Speaker 1: I loved everything about it.
- 39:19Speaker 9: No, you missed one person.
- 39:21Speaker 8: A Marquise cash motion. This is a Martise mash in.
- 39:27Speaker 9: This is the second.
- 39:28Speaker 8: Okay, this is a Marquis care In. The second more
- 39:33Speaker 8: than the first is coming here today.
- 39:36Speaker 9: Yeah, okay, is the ocean coming.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Ocean's gonna come in. She's just finishing up her eggs
- 39:41Speaker 1: and then she's gonna come say hi to us. She's
- 39:43Speaker 1: having having breakfast. She might have took him. She had
- 39:49Speaker 1: a morning nap. She's been up since six thirty.
- 39:53Speaker 9: Oh, we know that life.
- 39:55Speaker 1: We know that life.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Kicks like.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Writing another book. No, get into work, plain laughing Parker,
- 40:05Speaker 1: When when you saw the portrait of Michelle Obama? What
- 40:08Speaker 1: made you stop and look up and made you so happy?
- 40:11Speaker 1: Can you tell me everything, everything, everything, everything about the portrait.
- 40:16Speaker 1: That's a great answer. I love that answer. And when
- 40:21Speaker 1: did you decide that you felt you wanted to write
- 40:23Speaker 1: a book after my.
- 40:24Speaker 8: Mom said hey, let's write a book in her head?
- 40:27Speaker 8: And then you told me so like.
- 40:29Speaker 1: You thought that that sounded fun.
- 40:31Speaker 8: And then okay, time bestseller, and then and then we
- 40:35Speaker 8: decided to write another book. Now, mommy, now we read.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Now.
- 40:39Speaker 8: We're writing a two ready to reach called Parker Dresses
- 40:43Speaker 8: Up and You're from Mark and me and Mommie are
- 40:45Speaker 8: thinking about reading enough right to read. I'm thinking about Parker,
- 40:49Speaker 8: little go back in time to see your mom as
- 40:52Speaker 8: a secure child.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You have such great ideas. Ocean would love those two
- 40:59Speaker 1: new books. And how old? How old are you?
- 41:03Speaker 9: Parker?
- 41:04Speaker 1: You're six? So when when was the picture taken of
- 41:08Speaker 1: you looking up at the portrait? A two years old?
- 41:18Speaker 9: She said, talking to a famous movie star who was
- 41:20Speaker 9: by Friank Parker.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm going to FaceTime you every day to
- 41:23Speaker 1: make me feel.
- 41:24Speaker 9: Better about me.
- 41:26Speaker 5: Give me your number.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Well, FaceTime will be girlfriends. I love that. I mean, Jessica,
- 41:36Speaker 1: you have to. You have to look at her and
- 41:39Speaker 1: be like, where did she come from? She's so smart.
- 41:42Speaker 1: She the fact that she's sitting here on a FaceTime
- 41:45Speaker 1: doing a podcast and holding a conversation. I mean you
- 41:48Speaker 1: actually zoom zoom, thank you? Okay, I did say FaceTime,
- 41:55Speaker 1: I'm getting old?
- 41:57Speaker 9: Yeah whatever, not at all looks like a teenager, doesn't she.
- 42:03Speaker 8: She looks like it's only nineteen years old.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Oh tell me more, Parker.
- 42:08Speaker 9: Friends like to call me a teen mom. I think
- 42:10Speaker 9: that's funny. She looks like a mom, doesn't she She
- 42:13Speaker 9: looks so young.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But how can you looks?
- 42:16Speaker 8: How old are you?
- 42:17Speaker 1: I'm thirty one in one year younger, and my mommy,
- 42:20Speaker 1: she's thirty two.
- 42:21Speaker 9: Actually I'm thirty two. Okay, I'll take it. I'm thirty two.
- 42:26Speaker 1: We'll take it. We'll take it where we can get it.
- 42:29Speaker 1: I mean, dude, do you just listen to her and
- 42:31Speaker 1: go like, where did you come from? She's like a
- 42:34Speaker 1: brilliant little girl.
- 42:35Speaker 9: She's definitely an old soul. I think well, I mean
- 42:41Speaker 9: you have an old soul, which means like you're a
- 42:44Speaker 9: little bit before your time. Truly, I think so, because
- 42:48Speaker 9: if you think about it, when she went viral and
- 42:50Speaker 9: she was two years old, you know, we met Michelle Obama.
- 42:54Speaker 9: She invited us to meet her and we spent time
- 42:57Speaker 9: with herdies Oh sing a girl.
- 43:02Speaker 8: When one mommy a doll? The that's you one. We
- 43:06Speaker 8: need to hook her up with Michelle Obama and Barack Obama.
- 43:11Speaker 8: Where would you go to have brunch with the first lady?
- 43:16Speaker 1: Well, I have no idea, because if I met Michelle Obama,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I would probably forget how to speak what did you
- 43:23Speaker 1: say to her?
- 43:23Speaker 8: Okay, so do you want to hire me? You had
- 43:26Speaker 8: a dance party? So we had a dance parting.
- 43:33Speaker 1: And you just had the best time. I mean, was
- 43:35Speaker 1: she nice?
- 43:36Speaker 5: And then yeah?
- 43:36Speaker 8: And she gave me a personal tour of her office
- 43:40Speaker 8: to our family.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Wow. And did did you give her your book?
- 43:44Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 43:46Speaker 1: Your first one, Parker looks Up.
- 43:48Speaker 8: And it was signed.
- 43:49Speaker 1: You have a signed book by the first Lady.
- 43:53Speaker 8: No, we signed it for her.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Oh, you signed it for her and gave it to her,
- 43:58Speaker 1: lucky first lady. Right, So talk to me about being
- 44:02Speaker 1: a New York Times bestseller because Parker. I don't know
- 44:05Speaker 1: if you know this, but I wrote a book and
- 44:06Speaker 1: I did not make that list. Why you should ask them?
- 44:10Speaker 1: I don't have it with me right now.
- 44:14Speaker 9: Books, Well, don't shame or we do not have a
- 44:17Speaker 9: copy of Parker looks Up in Here. We should be ashamed.
- 44:20Speaker 9: We don't have a copy of Parker looks Up. We
- 44:23Speaker 9: have Parker Shines Off, Parker looks Up in Here. We
- 44:26Speaker 9: need to ask people, Okay, we need to ask the
- 44:31Speaker 9: New York Times bestseller people why La LA's book was
- 44:36Speaker 9: not a New York Times bestseller. That doesn't make sense, Yeah, Parker,
- 44:39Speaker 9: can you call them?
- 44:41Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 44:41Speaker 1: I can only hope that when Ocean, you know, gets older,
- 44:47Speaker 1: that she can. I mean, I'm watching you, Parker, and
- 44:51Speaker 1: I cannot believe that you're only six years old and
- 44:54Speaker 1: you've written books, one which is a New York Times bestseller.
- 44:57Speaker 1: When do you think that we can expect your your
- 45:00Speaker 1: next book?
- 45:01Speaker 9: Actually in four days.
- 45:04Speaker 1: In four days you have a third book coming out.
- 45:07Speaker 9: Yeah, And then six days after that we have our
- 45:10Speaker 9: fourth book coming out. And then actually two days ago
- 45:13Speaker 9: we just signed a contract for our sixth book, contract.
- 45:17Speaker 1: My mouth or my jaws on the ground. I mean,
- 45:20Speaker 1: this is incredible and you should be you should be
- 45:23Speaker 1: so proud of yourself, Parker. Are you proud of yourself?
- 45:27Speaker 4: Yes?
- 45:28Speaker 1: And then kind of I'm playing with you. Oh, I'm
- 45:31Speaker 1: proud of playing with you too. And what do you
- 45:34Speaker 1: tell kids your age if they have have dreams to
- 45:37Speaker 1: write a book? What would you tell them? Would you
- 45:39Speaker 1: tell them it's easy? Would you tell them to go
- 45:40Speaker 1: for it? What would you say to them?
- 45:42Speaker 9: What would be your best advice for other kids?
- 45:45Speaker 8: Keep dreaming, keep playing, and keep working hard during that
- 45:50Speaker 8: been playing.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yes, that's the most important.
- 45:53Speaker 9: Yeah, kids in.
- 45:56Speaker 8: A book you can write a book about play. That's
- 46:00Speaker 8: the idea.
- 46:00Speaker 1: That's the idea. And I think that's great advice because.
- 46:04Speaker 8: You'll get the i of writing a book about while
- 46:06Speaker 8: you're playing.
- 46:07Speaker 9: That's that's very good advice, actually sound advice.
- 46:10Speaker 1: That's great advice. And I love that she's six years
- 46:14Speaker 1: old telling us that the most important thing is playing,
- 46:17Speaker 1: because it can't be all work at the age of six,
- 46:19Speaker 1: right right, you gotta have you gotta have a lot
- 46:22Speaker 1: of bit of play.
- 46:23Speaker 6: I love.
- 46:26Speaker 8: These days.
- 46:27Speaker 9: We sing a lot of spots this these days. It's
- 46:29Speaker 9: probably my fault too. That's okay.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Where the sing song house? I mean everything I say
- 46:34Speaker 1: to ocean, I'm singing. So where when these books come out?
- 46:38Speaker 1: Can people get your books that are here right now
- 46:43Speaker 1: and your brand new.
- 46:44Speaker 9: Books Children's book well, yes, Children's Book World in LA
- 46:50Speaker 9: does have a lot of our books in stock and
- 46:54Speaker 9: every and anywhere books are sold, including Target and Costco.
- 46:57Speaker 9: And you can go to Simon She's to his website
- 47:01Speaker 9: and they'll direct you to everywhere that you can buy
- 47:03Speaker 9: a book.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of you, Parker. You
- 47:07Speaker 1: are a bright light. I want you to keep writing books.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I want you to keep playing. I want you to
- 47:12Speaker 1: keep making a difference. Are you the oldest of all
- 47:15Speaker 1: the kids? Oh, it's a big weight on your shoulders,
- 47:20Speaker 1: So you got to teach them the ways? Huh yeah,
- 47:23Speaker 1: patch yourself on the back.
- 47:24Speaker 9: The example, right, Yes, I.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Love it. And before I let you guys go, Jessica,
- 47:31Speaker 1: what would you tell parents who have an ambitious child.
- 47:34Speaker 1: You're trying to make her dreams come true. You're still
- 47:36Speaker 1: a mom to two other kids, you're still a wife.
- 47:39Speaker 9: How do you do this? I don't know. That's the
- 47:41Speaker 9: first honest and true thing that comes to my mind,
- 47:45Speaker 9: because it was already a lot, certainly juggling being a
- 47:49Speaker 9: mom of multiples. I had two before you know, Parker
- 47:53Speaker 9: went viral. When she went viral, was just two of them.
- 47:55Speaker 9: It was already a lot at that point. So I
- 48:00Speaker 9: honestly just don't put too much pressure on myself. I
- 48:03Speaker 9: try to take a lot of care of myself, whether
- 48:06Speaker 9: that means just making sure I take like a bath
- 48:08Speaker 9: every day, or or you know, find some time for
- 48:12Speaker 9: a me day. But just like everyone and anyone else
- 48:17Speaker 9: who's a mom, trying to balance and there's a lot
- 48:20Speaker 9: of charts, there's a lot of calendars, but also, you know,
- 48:25Speaker 9: Parker and our experience going virals what inspired me to
- 48:30Speaker 9: write the books. I already had like a little small
- 48:33Speaker 9: mom blog that I was writing because a lot of
- 48:36Speaker 9: my family and my friends were like inspired by the
- 48:41Speaker 9: things that we were doing during the week and on
- 48:43Speaker 9: the weekends. And so while I didn't consider myself a writer,
- 48:47Speaker 9: when I had the opportunity to write the book, it
- 48:50Speaker 9: was important to me that they were all included. I mean,
- 48:53Speaker 9: you know, Parker looks up, includes Parker and Eva because
- 48:56Speaker 9: it's the story of that day that we were at
- 48:57Speaker 9: the museum, and Ego was there too, even though she
- 49:01Speaker 9: was in the picture, she was little, so she was
- 49:02Speaker 9: in our stroller, but she was there too. She got
- 49:05Speaker 9: to see the portrait, and Parker shines on as you know,
- 49:08Speaker 9: on the cover. All three of them are there. So
- 49:11Speaker 9: we took a moment, an extraordinary moment, and have turned
- 49:15Speaker 9: it into something really special for our family. And obviously
- 49:19Speaker 9: family is really important to me. So the fact that
- 49:21Speaker 9: we're all involved now in this brand that we're building
- 49:24Speaker 9: to empower kids is probably why it's so easy to
- 49:28Speaker 9: keep going.
- 49:29Speaker 1: That really is, And I love that you said that
- 49:32Speaker 1: you don't know how you're doing it.
- 49:33Speaker 9: That's so honest.
- 49:35Speaker 1: I feel that, I know my listeners will feel that
- 49:38Speaker 1: as well. And not putting pressure on yourself. You just
- 49:41Speaker 1: you do what you can. But you should be extremely proud,
- 49:44Speaker 1: and so should you, Parker and I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 49:46Speaker 1: bring Ocean in so you can see her. Thank you
- 49:48Speaker 1: so much for being on my podcast today.
- 49:51Speaker 9: We are honored to be your guest, So thank you,
- 49:53Speaker 9: thank you.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Okay, yes I'm going to let my guests go and
- 49:58Speaker 1: then I'm going to bring Ocean on. Thank you so much,
- 50:00Speaker 1: you guys for listening to the Give Them While Out
- 50:02Speaker 1: podcast with Just Fim Parker Curry and we will catch
- 50:04Speaker 1: you next week
