- 1:43So, here's my guest, Anna Miriam Brown.
- 1:46Hey Anna. Welcome to, she speaks life.
- 1:49I am so excited. You are here with us today.
- 1:53Thank you for coming on here. I'm so happy to be here.
- 1:57Thank you so much for having. Yeah, I love music.
- 2:00Holes. I love theater.
- 2:02We have a little bit of a background of that with our
- 2:04daughter who has a passion for that as well.
- 2:09And we are going to be talking about his Story, the Musical
- 2:15that you are, the creator of, and you are so inspiring.
- 2:21And I just cannot wait to hear how God downloaded that idea in
- 2:26your heart. But before we begin, I always
- 2:30Love to start us off with asking, the guess what is their
- 2:34favorite scripture verse like a life of verse.
- 2:37Yes. So for me, it's a verse in John.
- 2:4114. I don't remember the exact
- 2:43reference but the verse is now you have sorrow but I will see
- 2:48you again and your heart will rejoice and your joy.
- 2:51No one will take from you and that's Jesus speaking, the to
- 2:54the disciples and a lot of my life.
- 2:57I just dealt with a lot of depression and anxiety.
- 3:00I d. But I always felt the spirit of
- 3:02God speaking that to me, and I always kept holding on to the
- 3:05hope that like one day I would fully have the revelation of God
- 3:10and when that happened, I've just, I've just been living in
- 3:13that Joy ever since and it's this Joy, no one can take.
- 3:17So, that's a really special verse to me.
- 3:19I love it. Okay, you are 22.
- 3:22Yes, that correct. Oh my goodness.
- 3:25I would love for you to share with our friend hear more about
- 3:29you and And how this whole thing got birthed.
- 3:33Yeah, absolutely. So like I said, when I was
- 3:37growing up, probably from like 12 to like 16.
- 3:43I had a lot of just like, kind of mental fuzz and just like a
- 3:48lot of anxiety, and like, I really didn't get, I didn't get
- 3:54the gospel. I didn't really understand God,
- 3:57even though, like, my parents are like, super, super
- 4:00Christian, they love the Lord. They've always been such a great
- 4:03example and I think that's one of the reasons why I was so
- 4:06passionate to find God. Even though I I didn't exactly
- 4:10know how is because I saw he was real, by the way, my parents
- 4:13loved him and served him. So I really even though was like
- 4:20difficult and I didn't exactly know how I kept seeking God and
- 4:25praying and just hoping that one day he would, you know, help me
- 4:29out of just that That kind of dark place.
- 4:32I was in mentally and when I was 16, just this, the spring of
- 4:38when I turned 16, something just started changing for me and God
- 4:43started revealing himself in really like intimate, and
- 4:47Powerful ways, and just showing himself to me through scripture
- 4:51and through people, and through Miracles, and all sorts of
- 4:54things. And I just like, finally, it
- 4:58just started to click like that. Audible and like knowing Jesus
- 5:03and I was like, I became so passionate about it.
- 5:06I was like, oh my goodness. Like I just, I want everybody to
- 5:10find, you know, this relationship with God that I
- 5:13found, and I want, I don't ever want someone to experience like
- 5:16to be stuck in that darkness that I felt like I was stuck in.
- 5:20So I'm gonna like, do my best to like go like, share the gospel.
- 5:24So like I did what every, you know, 16 year old who wants to
- 5:27share the gospel does and I like went to act.
- 5:32Yeah, my friend is going to Kenya with a team and I was
- 5:38like, can I come with you to Kenya?
- 5:40And he was like, yeah. So I go to Kenya and my heart is
- 5:44to just share, just the joy of God and the joy of knowing
- 5:48Jesus. And but while I was there, God
- 5:52had a little plan going on, you know?
- 5:55Like my calling is to, to share the story of Jesus but it wasn't
- 5:59how I thought. At all.
- 6:01And let's just start off by saying, I was never a musical
- 6:04theater kid. I was never into musicals, like
- 6:08I was like, I'd seen, maybe like two little, you know, Community
- 6:12Theater things growing up, but it just never had my attention
- 6:15at all. But when I was in Africa, this
- 6:19Canadian girl, randomly tagged along, like, she ran into them
- 6:23on the trip and she to us on the trip.
- 6:25And she ended up joining our team and she was like, Anna.
- 6:29You've got to listen to Ooh, this musical called Hamilton,
- 6:32and I was like, oh my gosh, I like to be a little, like, a
- 6:38little partner, it's not bad. And then like she showed me
- 6:42enough. She showed me the song Satisfied
- 6:44and I was like, oh, that's pretty good.
- 6:46And then, like one time I was like, we were out helping this
- 6:49Village and the, the doctors were doing their thing, and we
- 6:53had finished with our part, we were just having lunch and we're
- 6:55like, all right, well, look, we have a little break, this big,
- 6:57and I Hamilton. And so we listen to the whole
- 7:00thing. Through and like by the end I
- 7:02was like holy crying and just like feeling so much for like
- 7:07these characters. You know, the founding fathers
- 7:10like and this whole story that I never cared about before this
- 7:14new interest for American history just like with instantly
- 7:18birthed, I just like had this huge passion for musical theater
- 7:21All In This Moment that was like oh my goodness like okay maybe
- 7:26musical Pete is not what I thought.
- 7:28Like maybe it's there's something powerful.
- 7:30Powerful about it. So I was just like so like I
- 7:34listen to the musical Hamilton probably like 50 times after
- 7:38that and it was just something. I had been like so struck like
- 7:43put in my heart that like I wanted somebody to do that with
- 7:49the Bible. I was like if somebody could do
- 7:51this when a Bible maybe like you know, it can it can have the
- 7:56same effect it did on me like with American history and I can
- 8:00help new people like kind of open up to hearing a story of
- 8:04God in a new and a new way. Yeah.
- 8:07But like I didn't think that I was going to be the one to do
- 8:10that. You know I with didn't feel
- 8:12equipped and anyway to do something like that but it just
- 8:16kept like coming back and I kept wanting this thing to be created
- 8:21and then they're just got to be this one.
- 8:24This one day where I just felt so strong on my heart.
- 8:27God speak to me and say like you're the One that's supposed
- 8:31to do this and I was like, what? Like I don't know.
- 8:36Even where to start. You know, I know.
- 8:39Yeah I love it when God just gives us an idea but we don't
- 8:44know how and it's like his perfect plan though so we're
- 8:49completely reliant on him and you know his way on how he wants
- 8:56it to look, right? So that leads us into You
- 9:00starting to write for this musical called his story.
- 9:05So, the play Hamilton inspired you to start looking at.
- 9:11Let's do some musicals with a Biblical lens.
- 9:14Uh-huh. So what did that process look
- 9:17like, I read that you started at age 16.
- 9:20Yeah, that correct. Yeah, okay, yes.
- 9:23So so after kind of having that dream like put into me obviously
- 9:29like you were saying Like, even if you don't feel ready or
- 9:33whatever, like God is not worried about all that, God, can
- 9:37give skill to anyone. He can put the right people
- 9:40around anyone. You just have to be willing to
- 9:42live out God's dream and so, like, even though I felt very
- 9:46like, you know, unqualified I was like, okay, like I'll try to
- 9:49do this and it really didn't look like anything was going to
- 9:53be able to actually happen because I was living with my
- 9:56family and Ukraine at the time we were missionaries and like
- 10:00me. That Ukraine's not like musical
- 10:03theater recording, all that kind of stuff world.
- 10:06And so I was just going to be this missionaries kid with this,
- 10:09like random musical, but that would never become anything.
- 10:14But anyways felt like God still wanted me to do it.
- 10:16So I was like, all right? And I went to my sister who's,
- 10:19like the Musical one in the family, Rachel Brown, and I was
- 10:23like, Rachel, like kind of embarrassing, but like, can you
- 10:26teach me some Fiona? I'm going to try to write a
- 10:29musical. And she taught me four chords on
- 10:32piano. And then from there, I really
- 10:35felt like the Holy Spirit was just guiding me because I
- 10:38started to be able to hear like to hear music and be able to
- 10:43find chords and stuff like that. Not my like any music theory or
- 10:47anything like that, but just like listening and like praying
- 10:50that God would guide me and just like letting my hands kind of
- 10:52leave me on the piano and then just kind of like freestyling
- 10:56lyrics from like like in the perspective of These characters
- 11:01that I grown up hearing about, like, through my dad and my mom
- 11:04telling me Bible story. So like, Peter and Jesus and all
- 11:07them they were in my mind so I can just kind of like right in
- 11:12those characters. So, and then eventually turned
- 11:15into about a year later I had 30 songs and so I yeah.
- 11:22So I had 30 songs and then, my parents heard me singing it.
- 11:25Or I think one of my sister's, like, told on me that I was
- 11:28writing a musical and they were like, Like that's actually
- 11:32really good and they wanted to help me, they wanted to just
- 11:37help it, become whatever God wanted it to become so.
- 11:41So many crazy Miracles happened and how we were able to record
- 11:45it, like record the entire album and God just providing like
- 11:49people and money and everything that we needed.
- 11:52And we eventually made this concept album is and that's what
- 11:56we put out into the world but even then I didn't expect it to
- 11:59become a Each musical but oh, it's beautiful.
- 12:03Okay, what is his story about? His story is about the life of
- 12:08Jesus, but it, um, it's really through the perspective of his
- 12:14disciples a lot. It goes into their stories, Mary
- 12:18Magdalene, and Judas, and mother, Mary, and Joseph.
- 12:22And it's very, very creative and takes the story that we have and
- 12:27just like kind of looks at it through a little bit of A
- 12:30contemporary lens about what that really like what were these
- 12:34characters really feeling and thinking, you know, what was
- 12:37Joseph thinking, when Mary says she's pregnant and you know,
- 12:41what was ludus mindset and all of this?
- 12:43And so just really digging in and putting these classical
- 12:47characters with like real things we go through today.
- 12:51I love that. Like just kind of an emotional
- 12:53background. Yeah.
- 12:54What were they feeling at that time?
- 12:57I know like some stories, I'm like I wish they described how
- 13:01they were feeling more have a little more emotions.
- 13:07So this process I'm thinking brought you even closer to
- 13:14Jesus. What are some of the main
- 13:17highlights of maybe that encounter that you have been in
- 13:24with the Lord, through this whole journey?
- 13:27Well, what's so, Incredible about this is it's like it's a
- 13:33very sweet process of just trusting because it's almost
- 13:39like this is, this isn't the students start out my dream,
- 13:43really? It's like it was God's dream and
- 13:46he decided to share that with me and I feel so honored but it's
- 13:50like I've really felt God's grace and the fact that like I
- 13:54don't feel pressure for this to become anything and every step
- 13:58is just something that God laid. Out.
- 14:00And I get the privilege of walking in and so there's been a
- 14:06lot of crazy things about this whole thing, but I'll tell you
- 14:10one little story. So do you know his story is
- 14:13going to be in a tent? Yes, it's in the ground state
- 14:19grants. Yes, yes, yes.
- 14:22So, beautiful it. It's so stunning.
- 14:25But the crazy thing about this is about a year ago, I was doing
- 14:30this. This Mission San called why
- 14:31Wham. And so yeah with three of my
- 14:34super sweet friends, who love Jesus and we just been reading
- 14:39the Bible a lot about how you know, Moses went up to this
- 14:42mountain to pray and we're like, oh my goodness, all these people
- 14:46in the Bible, they're always going up to mountains and
- 14:48hearing these great things from God.
- 14:50So we're like maybe we should do that.
- 14:52So we went to the store, we bought a bunch of food, we
- 14:56packed a picnic and rented a car and we drove up to This we were
- 15:01in Hawaii and we drove up to this beautiful mountain, it was
- 15:04chilly. And we were like, we're totally
- 15:07going to hear from God and like, it's going to be such an epic
- 15:09encounter and it was actually horrible.
- 15:13We were freezing cold. We, it was pretty miserable, but
- 15:18we ended up just like, you know, cuddling up in blankets and then
- 15:22I fell asleep. And I had a dream where I was
- 15:28standing in front of a big way. White tent and his story was
- 15:32playing inside the tent. And from this, I just wrote it
- 15:37down because I'm like, that's weird but like maybe that's what
- 15:40God wanted to show me and then I forgot about it but like we were
- 15:43not planning on doing it in a tent musicals are intense like
- 15:47that's not like a normal thing. But I just wrote that down and
- 15:52kind of moved on. And then about a year later, the
- 15:55producer Bruce Lazarus called me and was like, hey, what would
- 15:58you think? If we didn't like a big, Cirque
- 16:00du Soleil like tight, and I was like, oh my goodness, so little
- 16:07things like that. Yeah, have been just happening
- 16:10and like, the way that it's all come together is so miraculous
- 16:15that it's like I feel I feel like God's hand is so on it in
- 16:20such a special way just that I feel.
- 16:23So like honored to be to be part of it and I'm so excited to see
- 16:27what it's going to become because like Like God's been
- 16:30with it so much this far that like I know he'll do whatever.
- 16:34He whatever he wants with it. Yeah and I love The Obedience,
- 16:39you know. He just wants our yes and we
- 16:41cook he can do with that. Yes yeah big and Grand of a
- 16:46scale it can get and you have such a obedient heart to him.
- 16:51And so for him to just open these doors for you.
- 16:56How did the doors open to get these?
- 17:00Known Broadway, producers and directors, including Willie and
- 17:05Korie Robertson. Correct, how did that all come
- 17:09about? I mean, that's the crazy part
- 17:12about it is like, none of this was really by our effort.
- 17:16Like I I didn't again know much about musical theater or
- 17:20Broadway, but once we publish the musical and made it public,
- 17:25I word kind of started to spread and God started make these
- 17:28connections. And somebody sent it to Bruce
- 17:32Lazarus who is the producer and he was just like, okay, 16 year
- 17:37old girl writes musical about Jesus, like definitely not going
- 17:40to be my thing but he just listened so he could tell his
- 17:44friend nicely that it's not his thing but he kept it up, just
- 17:49falling in love with it and it's just like so amazing and he
- 17:54didn't. He brought all these incredible
- 17:56teams. Jeff Calhoun who did Newsies and
- 17:59Bonnie, and And then in fully his just incredible, incredible
- 18:04choreographer. It's like I was just watching
- 18:06him this morning just like creating the ending of act one
- 18:11and I'm just like mind blown. I'm like, how do you do that?
- 18:14He's literally like painting with like all these bodies.
- 18:17It's incredible. But so yeah this incredible team
- 18:21that Bruce has brought together and I yeah amazing.
- 18:25Yeah, I was at all God's children were, they help?
- 18:30Help the orphan and the Widow it was a charity event and I got to
- 18:35meet Jep Robertson and and I thought it was him that was part
- 18:40of his story and I knew I had you coming on in a few weeks the
- 18:44interview and he's like oh that's my brother Willie that in
- 18:49Cory. That's doing that.
- 18:50And I was like oh how cool. He's like but we're definitely
- 18:53going to see it not like yeah we're gonna be in that area in a
- 18:57couple weeks so I know we're excited.
- 19:00To go see it and so, tell me like, what are you hoping people
- 19:05will take away from this musical?
- 19:09Well, I think it, I think it'll be different for every person
- 19:14because it really is just the bringing to life of the Gospel
- 19:18that already affects so many people as it is.
- 19:22So I think it will be whatever, people need, whatever their,
- 19:28whatever they're lacking. and I think the gospel is just so
- 19:32powerful, but I think the main message kind of behind it,
- 19:37especially what it's become, because a lot of new songs have
- 19:40been written to is just the idea that there is really nobody too
- 19:46far gone or nobody to Broken that, that that they can't be
- 19:50redeemed if they reach out for help and if they, if they reach
- 19:55out for the healing, that that Jesus offers, so, I think that's
- 20:01the main message and also something that is really on my
- 20:05heart is I want his story to inspire other young other young
- 20:11kids to just take leaps of faith and to just go for it and to
- 20:15just be different and and create and do things for God and have
- 20:20faith and like use their talents to the fullest that they can
- 20:23with the abilities that they have and the resources they have
- 20:27and just like get inspired to do that kind of stuff.
- 20:30Tough and just fill the world with beautiful like pure, holy
- 20:34art for God, I love that and it just shows.
- 20:38Like you may not even know that you have the gift and the
- 20:41talent. Like until you put in that
- 20:44action step just like you, it was like you didn't even know
- 20:48that you had this in you until God drop that idea and you took
- 20:53action into it and that he reveals it and he shows us.
- 20:57So it's so inspiring. You're young and just to see how
- 21:03God is encouraged you. And you're so humble.
- 21:06And, you know, this is something you get to do with God and I
- 21:11just love that you have come on here to share about this.
- 21:15So let's leave our friend here with a takeaway and then where
- 21:21can we see this wonderful musical called his story?
- 21:25What area is it going to be? Is it going to be in several
- 21:29different? Different areas was the future
- 21:32look like for this musical. Yes.
- 21:34So I would say, the take away the best advice I can give you
- 21:39is make knowing Jesus your dream because if your dream is to like
- 21:46is to impress God or make something incredible for a more
- 21:50view, just a good great Christian.
- 21:53Then you're always going to be living in this performance
- 21:56mentality. But if you make your dream, just
- 21:59getting to know him. Being as close to him, as you
- 22:01possibly can, his dreams are going to rub off on you and
- 22:04you're just gonna live the life that he wants.
- 22:07Because you're so close to him that you're just like his
- 22:09partner and everything, so that's always been.
- 22:12My goal is to be so close to God and so faithful with the little
- 22:16things that he gives me that when he has an idea and he
- 22:19wants, he wants to do something, I'm the one he comes to.
- 22:23So I would say just stay so close to Jesus and make loving
- 22:29him. The dream of your life and where
- 22:32can we all see those me? Yes.
- 22:35So his Story the Musical is going to be in the tent every
- 22:40night. Sometimes, like, on Saturdays,
- 22:43we're gonna be doing it. Three times.
- 22:44Three shows on Saturdays. So come, see it at Grand scape?
