Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: If I was on pro roc to the change into
- 0:07Speaker 1: you know, to them is volp and no besty.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Excuse or stay dog nama here chanst Yeah, God, if
- 0:32Speaker 2: she just keep taking.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Chawan ambard from Patriarch, now from Patriarch. So Hello, I'm
- 0:46Speaker 3: the vocalist of the band.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Hello, I Borta, I'm guitarist of Patriarch.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Wonderful, lovely to have you guys here. You guys are
- 0:55Speaker 5: playing your last show as Petushka in Melbourne. What made
- 0:58Speaker 5: you guys choose Australia to play the last show together?
- 1:04Speaker 4: Mm?
- 1:06Speaker 6: But you know, I think that's actually coincidence. We didn't
- 1:10Speaker 6: plan to you know, play our last show in Australia,
- 1:14Speaker 6: but like it's you know, because we're also playing in
- 1:18Speaker 6: New Zealand. And I was, you know, thinking, it's like,
- 1:20Speaker 6: you know, like in the Lot of the Rings, we're
- 1:22Speaker 6: just going through the Batrishan name to Murder to New Zealand.
- 1:25Speaker 4: You know, it's I guess it's quite funny.
- 1:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I think we didn't plan that. It just you know,
- 1:30Speaker 4: it happened.
- 1:32Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, awesome. And you've got a new concept album
- 1:36Speaker 5: coming out in January. Sonically, will this album be wildly
- 1:40Speaker 5: different to Rascal because of the name change, or will
- 1:44Speaker 5: it sort of be similar.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Oh, I think it's a it's a completely different album.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It's it's I think it's a rock ilia, more closed,
- 2:01Speaker 3: conceptual album and where everything works together, and the magic
- 2:08Speaker 3: of this album works when you listen to this album
- 2:11Speaker 3: constantinary and as one whole, and it's then then this
- 2:21Speaker 3: magic of this album, it's work together. And this maybe
- 2:25Speaker 3: it's more difficult album to listen, more complicated, but that
- 2:32Speaker 3: was our intention that you mustn't devote time to this music.
- 2:40Speaker 3: You have to get involved, and that's what we wanted
- 2:47Speaker 3: in the era. And the listening to music is very selectively.
- 2:52Speaker 3: We serve quite a large, large bar and that must
- 2:59Speaker 3: be eaten only as one hole.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, definitely. And how has the blending of orthodox
- 3:07Speaker 5: music with doom metal been received in Poland? And I
- 3:10Speaker 5: guess around the world as well, how has that been
- 3:12Speaker 5: received for you guys?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Obviously we are I think that we are something oriental
- 3:24Speaker 3: in the whole world, because Orthodox faith is not usually
- 3:28Speaker 3: like a Catholic faith. So I think it's a we
- 3:32Speaker 3: are serving something different and something that not usually around
- 3:39Speaker 3: the world. So I think that that the world of
- 3:43Speaker 3: Oriental is a it's a good work for us.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's more fitting, it's it's definitely different.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, completely yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 5: And what can you what can the Melbourne audience expect
- 3:57Speaker 5: from your last show as Batusha?
- 4:02Speaker 3: I think that we are.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Well playing.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Twenty sixteen twenty seventeen Australia on Dark Morpho Festival. It's
- 4:15Speaker 3: a very very very different festival like others and was
- 4:23Speaker 3: we did inspect that that this type of festival and
- 4:30Speaker 3: as a band, we are very exciting to invite the
- 4:34Speaker 3: Australia once again and see what's happened. We'll see what happened.
- 4:39Speaker 3: What happened, of course we are. That will be our
- 4:43Speaker 3: last show under the banner of Batushka, and so we
- 4:50Speaker 3: will see what happened.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe we should you know, burn something
- 4:55Speaker 6: at the stage.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yeah here, that's always fine.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Why not?
- 5:01Speaker 5: Why not in the middle of summer as well?
- 5:05Speaker 6: Yeah, we've got some you know, experience with bringing stuff
- 5:07Speaker 6: on stage, so yeah, why not?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Why not?
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 5:11Speaker 5: And does it get i know, Poland can get really cold.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Does it get hot there at all? Or is it
- 5:16Speaker 5: like just cold?
- 5:17Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you know, in the like past ten fifteen years,
- 5:21Speaker 6: it's actually went crazy because like it used to be
- 5:23Speaker 6: like you know, in the winter it could go up
- 5:25Speaker 6: to like even minus twenty like years ago minus fifteen.
- 5:29Speaker 4: But like right now we've got like.
- 5:32Speaker 6: The winter is really short, it's like world zero, but
- 5:36Speaker 6: in the summer it can go up to like thirty
- 5:38Speaker 6: five degrees easily.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Like the water is a very change last last
- 5:45Speaker 3: ten years, and we are going like we're going in
- 5:51Speaker 3: the different, different weather. So I'm older that that border
- 6:00Speaker 3: and I could remember that winter in my when I
- 6:05Speaker 3: was younger, of course, thirty thirty five minus degrees, so
- 6:11Speaker 3: it's so very hard. Now it's very easy. Yeah, it's
- 6:15Speaker 3: two months on zero two three minus, so it's uh,
- 6:22Speaker 3: it's when the ten ten minus degreases, everything is closed.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Jesus Christ, what's happening? And when I remember twenty years
- 6:32Speaker 3: ago when there's a thirty five minus and everything works,
- 6:36Speaker 3: So for me, it's you know.
- 6:39Speaker 5: That's insane. And well, when you guys come here, it'll
- 6:42Speaker 5: be really hot as well, so it's good that you're
- 6:44Speaker 5: sort of used to that already. When you guys last
- 6:48Speaker 5: came here, was it cold or hot here?
- 6:52Speaker 7: It was?
- 6:53Speaker 3: I think it's uh, it was not cold, but I
- 7:00Speaker 3: think it's raining reign type.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Yeah, that's good.
- 7:05Speaker 3: So Sydney was raining, Hobart was raining, so it's raining time,
- 7:11Speaker 3: so super that will be a sunning.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, exactly. With the lyrics, most of them are
- 7:18Speaker 5: written in church Slavonic. I don't know if I've said
- 7:21Speaker 5: that right.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Slavonic, Yeah, Slavonic Salonica.
- 7:25Speaker 5: There you Is that a difficult process?
- 7:28Speaker 3: Slavonic language?
- 7:30Speaker 5: There you go? Is that a difficult process for you
- 7:32Speaker 5: to write the lyrics saying that it is in that language? No?
- 7:37Speaker 3: For me, it's I think it's I'm from the region
- 7:40Speaker 3: that this language is used. Also, we're mixing this language
- 7:45Speaker 3: with our regional language that is called Hawaski.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Okay.
- 7:54Speaker 3: It's also this language is a mixing with the Russia
- 8:00Speaker 3: and with the Belarusian, also with the Polish language, and
- 8:06Speaker 3: we are mixing these languages with the old Slavonic and
- 8:10Speaker 3: also we used liturgical Thames and liturgical lyrics with the
- 8:24Speaker 3: and the story with mixing with the story of theatrical Uh, uh,
- 8:32Speaker 3: prophet ilia tam and and uh that's uh. Also, first
- 8:39Speaker 3: time we use Polish language on this album, so it's uh,
- 8:46Speaker 3: it's a lot of Also, you have heard a Bulgarian language.
- 8:53Speaker 3: You have heard Romanian language all Romania, also Old Greek,
- 8:59Speaker 3: so it's a lot of language and they're on the
- 9:04Speaker 3: on the lyrics of this album. But it's everything fit
- 9:08Speaker 3: with the with the music and an orthod extent because
- 9:11Speaker 3: we are traveling on this on this album to musically
- 9:19Speaker 3: on Greek, on the Romania, on Bulgaria, so we are
- 9:24Speaker 3: showing all elements of Orthodox music on on our own way.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 4: That's yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Yeah, if you're blending taking from many different countries of
- 9:37Speaker 5: the Orthodoxy, Yeah, that's so cool. Can you tell us
- 9:41Speaker 5: a little bit more about the name patriarch and where
- 9:43Speaker 5: that that came from?
- 9:47Speaker 3: Oh, it's a patriar, he's uh, it's maybe something sarcastic
- 9:53Speaker 3: that we are use a patriarch now because patriarchy has
- 9:59Speaker 3: a large the high highest breast of in in Orthodox
- 10:05Speaker 3: charge than uh than soa must bound to patriarch.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Something regular priests, regular priest.
- 10:17Speaker 6: Yeah, well like patriarch's like he's ahead of Orthodox Church.
- 10:22Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Just little some Easter eggs here and there.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, oh nice, Your shows look insane. Who comes
- 10:33Speaker 5: up with the set design?
- 10:37Speaker 3: Oh, it's uh, my job. I think it's a sonography,
- 10:44Speaker 3: robes and all these all these things like patriarch hooks
- 10:50Speaker 3: on the stage. And I think it's something different than
- 10:57Speaker 3: a normal normal met band. You know, it's a we
- 11:04Speaker 3: are not your usual Headbanjing band. So it's I think
- 11:10Speaker 3: it's a must be something theatrical or something special and
- 11:16Speaker 3: must be fit with our music. And there's something mystery
- 11:21Speaker 3: and like we are saying that some kind of liturgy
- 11:25Speaker 3: is something, so we are it's some kind of ritual
- 11:31Speaker 3: on the stage. Yeah, I think it's when you are
- 11:35Speaker 3: see and when you are here with the music everything is.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, And what do you guys think? Question for
- 11:45Speaker 5: both of you, what do you guys think about the
- 11:47Speaker 5: whole Like what's your stance on the whole debate of
- 11:51Speaker 5: is betushka blasphemy or is it representation of the religion?
- 11:57Speaker 5: What do you guys think about that?
- 12:00Speaker 6: So, you know, for us, it's like we're trying to
- 12:05Speaker 6: leave the decision for the listener because like we're not
- 12:07Speaker 6: blast I mean, we're not say any for the blast
- 12:12Speaker 6: femous part to you know, you need to ask yourself.
- 12:14Speaker 6: It's like, you know, if a couple of upside down
- 12:17Speaker 6: crosses are like blusphemous. I would say, you know, it's
- 12:21Speaker 6: just Saint Peter's crosses and even know, if you listen
- 12:24Speaker 6: to the music and listen to the lyrics, I wouldn't
- 12:28Speaker 6: say that we're blasphemous. But if someone wants to think
- 12:31Speaker 6: that we are blass femous, it's like, okay, fine, dude,
- 12:34Speaker 6: Like that's your you know, you know, your your own choice.
- 12:38Speaker 6: But yeah, we're trying to you know, leave that for
- 12:40Speaker 6: the listeners. They can, you know, decide what they want
- 12:44Speaker 6: to you know, believe, I think it's all.
- 12:48Speaker 7: It's not a.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Like like a bordo say, it's we are giving for
- 12:57Speaker 3: listeners to to to join our music. We are trying
- 13:05Speaker 3: to involved in our our award and and I think
- 13:12Speaker 3: it's something some kind of sacrament profile that's that's that's
- 13:18Speaker 3: the that's the I think it's the main important of patrear.
- 13:23Speaker 5: And Yeah, no, nice explanation. I really like that you
- 13:29Speaker 5: guys have left it up to the audience to decide
- 13:31Speaker 5: for themselves what they want to interpret it as. Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 5: what does disband mean to both of you?
- 13:41Speaker 4: Oh that's a good one. That's a good one.
- 13:45Speaker 6: Well for me, basically, it's like the I would say,
- 13:49Speaker 6: the biggest you know, journey of my life because it's
- 13:52Speaker 6: you know, it's the fact that we can you know,
- 13:55Speaker 6: to around the world and see so many places, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 6: do a cool stuff, play really good shows.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Uh.
- 14:03Speaker 6: You know, there's like so many people would love to
- 14:06Speaker 6: do that. And the fact that we were able to
- 14:08Speaker 6: do that that you know that I'm inside you know
- 14:11Speaker 6: that we can write music.
- 14:12Speaker 4: You know, it's just an amazing journey.
- 14:17Speaker 6: But it's also a lot of work, like a lot
- 14:20Speaker 6: of work. You know, you have to like sacrifice a
- 14:25Speaker 6: lot of stuff, you know, your time, your relations with
- 14:27Speaker 6: other people, with your friends, with family. You know, there
- 14:31Speaker 6: are times that you're like constantly to rink or like
- 14:34Speaker 6: you know, you won't see the closest people for like
- 14:38Speaker 6: a half hour, you know, and and you need a
- 14:41Speaker 6: lot of like mental strength, like a lot.
- 14:46Speaker 4: But it is cool.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, for me, it's you know, it's my passion
- 14:54Speaker 3: for the fears.
- 14:56Speaker 6: You have to love it to do that because the
- 15:00Speaker 6: in other ways you would like just.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Go crazy, definitely.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Because yeah, the price to do that is so is
- 15:07Speaker 6: so high now and you also have to invest a
- 15:09Speaker 6: lot of money. Yes, the logistics are absolutely crazy, Like
- 15:15Speaker 6: you know, the plane tickets or the you know, the busses,
- 15:17Speaker 6: the nightliners, the gas is absolutely ridiculous how expensive it is.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure. I actually studied music touring and it
- 15:28Speaker 5: was amazing to find actually how little some of the
- 15:31Speaker 5: bands made after the end of everything, after tours because
- 15:34Speaker 5: of everything that comes down.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I mean, if you're lucky enough, because most
- 15:39Speaker 6: of the time, well maybe most of the time, but
- 15:42Speaker 6: like pretty often you end up without you know, and
- 15:45Speaker 6: the profit.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Hello, hello.
- 15:50Speaker 7: Something.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I think it's.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 15:54Speaker 3: So, like I said, it's my my question for for
- 15:59Speaker 3: for first, because music is my question of course, my
- 16:05Speaker 3: lifestyle and at the end it's my job. Yeah, and
- 16:12Speaker 3: everything is going to one whole like a passion, and
- 16:18Speaker 3: I think it's a very lucky man that I can
- 16:23Speaker 3: do this. And and like a boruta say that we're
- 16:28Speaker 3: traveling around the world, We're meeting with a lot of
- 16:34Speaker 3: people around the world, and you can connecting with it
- 16:38Speaker 3: around the world. So it's very very exciting and I'm luckily.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I'm lucky man.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it's pretty amazing when you stop and think about it.
- 16:50Speaker 5: And that brings me to my next question. Well, if
- 16:53Speaker 5: you guys weren't doing this as a band. What would
- 16:57Speaker 5: you guys, What do you think you guys would be doing, Like,
- 16:59Speaker 5: do you have any other hobbies that you think you
- 17:01Speaker 5: might might have gone into.
- 17:02Speaker 6: Or well, actually, I actually I just left a company
- 17:08Speaker 6: that I was working with till last year, so I
- 17:12Speaker 6: was constantly donk and working. But yeah, yeah, but I
- 17:16Speaker 6: had to you know, it was like too much stuff,
- 17:19Speaker 6: too much stuff. So yeah, actually I was working in
- 17:23Speaker 6: like a game depth industry oh far.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I can't say too much because you know, there's
- 17:29Speaker 6: like a lot of NDAs and stuff. But yeah, I
- 17:33Speaker 6: would probably you know, do something in it. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 6: something like that. Maybe maybe you know, playing other ones,
- 17:40Speaker 6: because like I have to two other projects. But I
- 17:42Speaker 6: think if I wouldn't join the boys in Batushka, I
- 17:45Speaker 6: probably wouldn't join any you know, like bigger band or something.
- 17:49Speaker 6: So I guess I would just you know, have a
- 17:52Speaker 6: typical corporate life, which is also fine.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Yeah that's awesome. A new bot.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Oh for me, it's I had a label, so I
- 18:04Speaker 3: think it's and not will be a not will be
- 18:08Speaker 3: a band, so it will be a uh will be
- 18:12Speaker 3: a label and I always will be uh in fact
- 18:17Speaker 3: with the with the music, and it's not it's it's
- 18:21Speaker 3: it's it's all my life, so it's always. I will
- 18:25Speaker 3: be dedicated for Underground for her music.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Yeah, lovely And is there anything you guys would like
- 18:35Speaker 5: to say to your Australian fans.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Oh, we invited for a last Patushka show and I
- 18:45Speaker 3: hope that will be a great show and and of
- 18:48Speaker 3: course have fun for us.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Yeah, if you if you know, if you have some
- 18:52Speaker 6: cool icons that you would like us to burn and
- 18:54Speaker 6: station the last show, you know, let us know, bring bring, bring,
- 18:59Speaker 6: bring exactly.
- 19:01Speaker 5: It will be amazing. We can't wait to have you
- 19:03Speaker 5: guys here. Don't miss Petushi's last show in Melbourne Friday,
- 19:07Speaker 5: December thirteen. That's when it all kicks off with Hybrid Nightmares.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Thank you guys so.
- 19:12Speaker 6: Much, thank you for having us.
- 19:17Speaker 1: If I was on pro to the changing to know
- 19:22Speaker 1: to the Misspent, no excuse your.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Or Stai dogs.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Koona mere chanst Yeah God if she just keep taking,
- 20:00Speaker 2: don't say Jenny, I mean yeah so or so Yeah,
