- 0:00Welcome to the Integrate This podcast. I'm Jeremy
- 0:03Mikla, David Berner here. He's behind the camera.
- 0:06But we're doing several different interviews
- 0:09with past guests that we've had on our program
- 0:11over the last year. And we're really excited
- 0:13to bring back Greg Bagby. Greg, it's great to
- 0:16see you again. Great to be included. Yeah. Well,
- 0:19we're so glad that when we reached out that you
- 0:21said, yes, you're going to be here too. You know,
- 0:23but is there other than joining us here on the
- 0:26Integrate This podcast, is there? The reason
- 0:28why you chose to come this year is it's something
- 0:30that you just continually do. It's something
- 0:32that I continually do. I've been doing ISTE neck
- 0:37if any of you old heads are out there. Did the
- 0:41neck conference I remember back in 2001 going
- 0:44to that and it became ISTE over the years and
- 0:48I would come as much as possible until I became
- 0:51a father and liked the kids and I had to do vacation
- 0:55time. the same time every month or every year.
- 0:58Yeah. So I took a break to hang out with my kids,
- 1:01which I love. They're amazing. Brilliant. So
- 1:04I'm glad I did. But after my kids grew up and
- 1:07got out, I started coming back. So yeah, here
- 1:10I am. What do you think makes this such a great
- 1:13event for educators to come to year after year?
- 1:16It's the people. It's always the people. Not
- 1:18only do you get to learn about the latest and
- 1:21greatest tools that are coming out, and you get
- 1:23to actually maybe learn something about pedagogy
- 1:26and or curriculum and technology, but... The
- 1:30people here are brilliant. You get to work with
- 1:33some of the best minds in education and come
- 1:37and listen to them and learn from them and grow
- 1:39with them. And it's so it's the people. So speaking
- 1:43of people, are there anyone here that's on your
- 1:46list of people that you want to see sessions
- 1:49that they're presenting that you want to go to
- 1:51that, you know, like, hey, I know if it's by
- 1:54this person, it's going to be awesome. So you
- 1:58said. sessions. I love going to sessions. I love
- 2:02learning. I'm a little different. I am the one
- 2:06who likes to meet the people in the hallway.
- 2:08Perfect. Bring the conference into the hallway.
- 2:11Yes. A lot like ed camps. I don't know if you
- 2:14were a part of that movement back in the day,
- 2:17but I do a lot of ed camps and ed camps. That's
- 2:19the whole thing that they would take. not necessarily
- 2:22the conference sit and listen to the keynote,
- 2:24but having those conversations with people. So
- 2:27I'm looking forward to having conversations with
- 2:30a lot of different people from the Adam Files,
- 2:33the Carl Hookers, the Jeremy Owas, even Richard
- 2:35Collada. We were having conversations just a
- 2:40couple of weeks ago in Birmingham. I will look
- 2:43for him again, hopefully this year. Last year,
- 2:46of course, it was everyone wanted to meet Colin
- 2:48Kaepernick. He was there. I got some time with
- 2:52him. Shh, don't tell anyone. But just being able
- 2:55to talk with different people, doing amazing
- 2:58things. And Mike Hill, Reading Rainbow, the guy.
- 3:05I don't know. Grew up with that? Yeah, I don't
- 3:07know if I'm going to be able to connect with
- 3:09him, but. I'm going to try. You see him in the
- 3:12hallway. That is correct. You're going to go
- 3:13up and introduce yourself and like strike up
- 3:16a conversation. I'm going to pull out my phone
- 3:17and take some pictures and we're going to do
- 3:18some video. We're going to talk about, hey. A
- 3:20selfie and then you're going to share that out
- 3:21with us too and we'll be able to say, hey, look
- 3:24who we ran into. That is correct. Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:26We'll make it happen. I love it. I love it. You
- 3:29know, if you think back to like over the experience
- 3:33of the different conferences that you've been
- 3:35to here and if you were to recommend something
- 3:37to a person who's here the first time. How can
- 3:41they best experience all of ISTE in that, you
- 3:46know, in the short amount of time that we're
- 3:48actually here? Don't do like me. Be like other
- 3:52folks. Go ahead and map out the conference sessions
- 3:55that you want to go to. Go to sessions. Learn
- 3:59and grow. I think that's the best thing is if
- 4:02you map out your sessions prior to arriving to
- 4:05ISTE. then you have an idea of okay I want to
- 4:08go here go here go here go here and you have
- 4:11your schedule set you may not make all the ones
- 4:14that you want to see and you may not go and meet
- 4:17all the people that you want to meet but it will
- 4:19be impactful if you make the ones if you can
- 4:22make any of the sessions that you think speak
- 4:24to you it will be impactful for you in your position
- 4:28wherever or whatever you may do so I would say
- 4:31go ahead do the schedule Wear some good shoes
- 4:35because you're gonna be walking a lot Yeah, and
- 4:38I have my water bottle behind you behind me rather
- 4:41and be ready to hydrate Especially in a warm
- 4:44place like Orlando. Yes. Yes. I definitely noticed
- 4:47that and I I think my watch measures my steps
- 4:51funny. I don't know because I did 16 ,000 yesterday
- 4:55but a person I walked like everywhere with had
- 4:5719 ,000. So I kind of was kind of felt and cheated
- 5:00a little bit. And I too have my water bottle
- 5:03in my backpack like right over there. But I think
- 5:06great pieces of advice here too. One of the things
- 5:11that I think is really neat here about the conference
- 5:14also is that they bring in these vendors into
- 5:17the expo area. And do you visit that area much?
- 5:21Yes, I do. Of course. What's the best swag that
- 5:24you have come away from being in that area? You
- 5:28didn't see where that question was going, did
- 5:29you? No, I did not. But I did not come away with
- 5:34it. But I saw these really cool jackets. that
- 5:40Magic School was giving out. Was it at this conference?
- 5:44I don't remember. I do too many conferences.
- 5:47But I just remember these Letterman jackets that
- 5:51Magic School was giving out. I can picture the
- 5:51ones that you're talking about. I don't know
- 5:52if it was last year or the year before. I don't
- 5:54know. That was cool. I should have sat and listened
- 5:57and gotten that. But I did not get it. But best
- 6:01swag, so when my kids were younger, I would love
- 6:04to get the glow balls and all the things and
- 6:06take back to the kids because super dad. But
- 6:10more recently, I know this sounds really cheesy,
- 6:15I got a multi -port. Not charging bank, but a
- 6:21multi -port surge protector. I was like oh I
- 6:25know I'm of that age where yeah, I got a really
- 6:29good surge protector y 'all y 'all better step
- 6:31back So that that's me Perfect and you know last
- 6:36question here, you know David and I are bringing
- 6:38on multiple different people here But is there
- 6:41someone that you think that we should have on
- 6:43and bring in and have a conversation with them?
- 6:47Have you had a conversation with Adam file? No,
- 6:51I think you should bring in Adam. He is Educator
- 6:55out of Georgia. He's currently running for a
- 6:58school board in his area, which is kind of amazing
- 7:00But he's also on the ISTE board. Yeah, and he's
- 7:03a phenomenal guy. He works for all4ed I do believe
- 7:06he left his district a year and a half ago and
- 7:09he's doing amazing things across the country
- 7:11with all4ed and And like I said, he's trying
- 7:14to do some work in his own backyard by running
- 7:16for school board. And I think the conversation
- 7:19with him would be phenomenal. Awesome. Well,
- 7:23we'll definitely look for that and try to find
- 7:25a way to reach out to him. And we just appreciate
- 7:27that you're continuing to do the things. to help
- 7:31spread great news about education and technology.
- 7:35And we just loved having you on as a guest, and
- 7:37we're glad we could bring you back here today.
- 7:38So thank you very much. Thank you again for having
- 7:40me. I appreciate all the time that you all put
- 7:42into this. Yeah. Wonderful. Have a great day.
- 7:46You too.
