Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Cody Ponce has arrived and he's gone to Canada to
- 0:07Speaker 1: join one of the hottest teams in the sport right now,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Toronto Blue Jays. He signed several weeks back on
- 0:12Speaker 1: a three year contract. Here he is, Cody, great to
- 0:14Speaker 1: have you on, congrats on the deal, Welcome back to
- 0:16Speaker 1: Major League Baseball.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Thank you. I really really appreciate it. I'm just excited
- 0:22Speaker 2: to be here with my USA boys.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I know, you know, both of these guys, I'm gonna
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna let them go back and forth with you
- 0:30Speaker 1: on the USA Action. But first I'll jump ship and
- 0:33Speaker 1: ask you about how this all went down. So can
- 0:36Speaker 1: you kind of tell We'll get into your story, but
- 0:38Speaker 1: tell us specifically about how you ended up with Toronto.
- 0:41Speaker 1: What was the courting process like it went? It seemed
- 0:44Speaker 1: like it went fast everything for you.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, everything was pretty quick. I think we wanted to
- 0:49Speaker 2: have a decision made by the time I got to
- 0:51Speaker 2: be coming home. And that was also a lot of
- 0:57Speaker 2: if so factos kind of things. If we do end
- 1:00Speaker 2: up going with a team, who is it going to be,
- 1:03Speaker 2: we have to make sure we don't, you know, get
- 1:06Speaker 2: upset with the team that I'm part of because I
- 1:09Speaker 2: love the Hanway Eagles and the Blue Jays were just
- 1:13Speaker 2: such a family oriented team that I was like, and
- 1:15Speaker 2: everybody in the entire league is, but everything that I
- 1:19Speaker 2: heard was so ever, it was such a big family
- 1:22Speaker 2: thing and for me now being a new dad, that's
- 1:25Speaker 2: what I really want it.
- 1:27Speaker 4: But how how did you feel like you gave yourself
- 1:31Speaker 4: enough of a time to talk to other teams, enough
- 1:35Speaker 4: of a time to like truly see what other teams had,
- 1:38Speaker 4: if at all possible or was it something that because
- 1:42Speaker 4: I don't know how the process works from going over
- 1:44Speaker 4: to from coming over from Korea or Japan, like you
- 1:48Speaker 4: don't have a signing window, but I know they want
- 1:51Speaker 4: to make their roster and they want you back. So
- 1:53Speaker 4: how does this How did it all go down for you?
- 1:55Speaker 4: And like, what were some of the other phone calls
- 1:57Speaker 4: with other teams that you had?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Uh, there were a few other phone calls I had.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I was very interested in a few other teams. But
- 2:05Speaker 2: when your wife manifests three years for thirty million, and
- 2:09Speaker 2: the team then ends up saying, hey, we're willing to
- 2:11Speaker 2: do three for thirty you kind of just have to
- 2:14Speaker 2: say we don't want to be greedy. We my wife
- 2:17Speaker 2: just manifested this entire contract from June until the end
- 2:22Speaker 2: of November, and it's like the things fell into place
- 2:25Speaker 2: for us, and I was like, this is where I
- 2:26Speaker 2: was meant to be, and now I'm even more excited
- 2:29Speaker 2: to be here.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I going Pregnant women.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Pregnant women are just you know, they can They got
- 2:33Speaker 4: that extra they got that extra telepathic power. I mean,
- 2:37Speaker 4: it's right in June, she knew you were already Like
- 2:41Speaker 4: did she know you had to pitch the rest of
- 2:42Speaker 4: the season. I know you end up for people who
- 2:44Speaker 4: don't know you dominated Korea, you dot like Triple Crown MVP,
- 2:50Speaker 4: like you had Nintendo numbers over there. But in June,
- 2:55Speaker 4: she was already thinking, oh, my Cody, I'm pregnant with
- 2:59Speaker 4: with his and my Cody is going to get us
- 3:03Speaker 4: three years thirty million. Like she might she she might
- 3:06Speaker 4: be she might be in on the Major League Baseball's database.
- 3:10Speaker 4: She might have known what your value was for their
- 3:13Speaker 4: collusion that they already have set aside for all players.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No, it was really just like, hey, I want to
- 3:22Speaker 2: put our our goal at three for thirty And I
- 3:27Speaker 2: was like, hold on, let's just slow the role here.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It's June. I still have an entire rest of the season.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I have to pitch. Yes, we're doing well right now,
- 3:35Speaker 2: but there's been guys who have come back and who
- 3:38Speaker 2: have had more service time than me, like Eric Fetti
- 3:41Speaker 2: and you know, two for fifteen. So I was like, Hey,
- 3:43Speaker 2: we're just gonna be happy with what we get. Hopefully
- 3:46Speaker 2: we get something around that kind of ballpark. And she's like,
- 3:50Speaker 2: I understand, but like I have this feeling. I have
- 3:53Speaker 2: this feeling that we're gonna like three for thirty. And
- 3:56Speaker 2: I was like, all right, I'm gonna let you do
- 3:58Speaker 2: all the manifesting. I'm just gonna try to focus on
- 4:00Speaker 2: what's going on on the ball field and we'll just
- 4:03Speaker 2: see how it plays from there.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Unbelievable. What a great story. And now you can tell
- 4:09Speaker 5: you're you know, you're newborn. Now look what mommy told him.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Look what really happened, So you better listen to her. Ultimately,
- 4:16Speaker 5: in the kbl man you said you were just having
- 4:19Speaker 5: a little more fun. It was something different. Talk to
- 4:22Speaker 5: me about like your mindset, and you know, why was
- 4:24Speaker 5: it so much more fun out there? Is there was
- 4:26Speaker 5: it a mindset?
- 4:27Speaker 3: Was it?
- 4:27Speaker 5: You know?
- 4:28Speaker 2: Was it pressure.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Talk a little about what your thoughts were going on
- 4:31Speaker 5: over there and why it brought you back to life
- 4:33Speaker 5: a little bit in this beautiful game of baseball.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It is a very beautiful game of baseball, even with
- 4:40Speaker 2: the lows. You know, I didn't have every outing that
- 4:44Speaker 2: I went out there, and I didn't just punch fifteen
- 4:47Speaker 2: or sixteen every single time and have zeros through seven innings.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You know, I had those games where I went five innings,
- 4:52Speaker 2: gave up four and had amazing defense and the offense
- 4:56Speaker 2: behind me to be able to pick me up to
- 4:57Speaker 2: keep me out of that loss record. And I think
- 5:03Speaker 2: just the boys, the way they accepted me into the
- 5:06Speaker 2: family when we got down to Australia for spring training.
- 5:09Speaker 2: So I've been all across the world this year, that's
- 5:12Speaker 2: for sure, from Australia to Japan, to Korea for the
- 5:15Speaker 2: whole season and then now back to the States. But
- 5:18Speaker 2: they just the way they embraced me was so family
- 5:21Speaker 2: like that I loved it so much that I started
- 5:24Speaker 2: early on trying to figure out the culture and the
- 5:28Speaker 2: camaraderie and the chemistry with everybody that I picked up
- 5:31Speaker 2: the language, and we all know we don't pick up
- 5:33Speaker 2: the day to day language, we pick up the bad
- 5:36Speaker 2: words first, and so I was able to joke around
- 5:41Speaker 2: with them on a lot more friendly basis. And I
- 5:43Speaker 2: was just able to have a lot more fun off
- 5:46Speaker 2: the ball field rather than on the ball field. And
- 5:48Speaker 2: I think that then translates to having a lot more
- 5:50Speaker 2: fun on the ballfield.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Why didn't the same thing happen in Japan? Why didn't
- 5:55Speaker 4: you have the same success.
- 5:59Speaker 2: So I would say the biggest factor for me is family.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Right when you are on a ball field and you
- 6:07Speaker 2: go one hundred and in Korea, one hundred and forty four,
- 6:10Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty two, like it is in the
- 6:11Speaker 2: big leagues, and you sit on that bench for every
- 6:13Speaker 2: single one of them, you create a tighter knit. You
- 6:17Speaker 2: are there for all the ups and downs, for all
- 6:19Speaker 2: of your batters. You can pick your guys up off
- 6:22Speaker 2: after defensive airs. You're able to be there with them.
- 6:25Speaker 2: In Korea, I was able to sit on the bench
- 6:27Speaker 2: for every single game. In Japan, if you were a starter,
- 6:32Speaker 2: the only day that you were allowed to sit on
- 6:33Speaker 2: the bench was the day that you started. Besides that,
- 6:36Speaker 2: after you're done with practice and before the game, you
- 6:39Speaker 2: headed home. So the relationships were a lot less tight knit,
- 6:46Speaker 2: if I can say.
- 6:47Speaker 5: That, Yeah, you made some changes. Man, you had a
- 6:51Speaker 5: teammate and RAYU remember him back in the day with
- 6:54Speaker 5: the Dodgers, big left handed pitcher. Talk about the changes
- 6:58Speaker 5: that you made and the decisions that you made to
- 7:01Speaker 5: make those changes.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Rio was one of those big changes.
- 7:05Speaker 3: You know.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You see his big curveball that just kind of pops
- 7:08Speaker 2: up nice slow and just kind of falls in. Then
- 7:11Speaker 2: you're like, you kind of you're sitting there and you're like,
- 7:13Speaker 2: what is this and it's like and then he throws
- 7:16Speaker 2: you a harder one and you're like, wait a minute.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Those are two different pitches but the same pitch. And
- 7:20Speaker 2: he was doing that with his his change up, his curveball,
- 7:23Speaker 2: his slider, and it just allowed us to be in
- 7:27Speaker 2: me to learn off of that. And I watched the
- 7:29Speaker 2: first month of season him do that, and then started
- 7:32Speaker 2: talking to the other foreigner, Ryan Weiss, that I was with,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and I started asking questions, Hey, why does he throw two?
- 7:38Speaker 2: Like why does he throw that super slow one. He's like, well,
- 7:41Speaker 2: that's just to get everybody off balance. And then I
- 7:43Speaker 2: started picking Rio's brain and then I mean, he just
- 7:47Speaker 2: made it feel like very americanized where all of the
- 7:50Speaker 2: starters went out and watched the starter pregame and then
- 7:54Speaker 2: we all came in together. So that fonding, that close
- 7:57Speaker 2: knit family feeling was so fun with him. And I
- 8:00Speaker 2: mean he treated me like a little brother, but he
- 8:02Speaker 2: also respected me as a ballplayer, and that was like
- 8:05Speaker 2: an amazing thing to have.
- 8:07Speaker 5: And you talk about family, excuse me, your wife's brother,
- 8:12Speaker 5: George Kittle. I mean, how cool is that you get
- 8:15Speaker 5: to talk to a guy who's been there through it
- 8:18Speaker 5: all NFL and he's helped you out through tough times.
- 8:21Speaker 5: So you know, you talk about family, talk about brotherhood,
- 8:24Speaker 5: talk a little bit about how he has helped you
- 8:26Speaker 5: through this, which I think is awesome, incredible. You know,
- 8:29Speaker 5: you're gonna have some athletic kids when they get older.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I'll tell you that, right they're gonna Well, our daughter's
- 8:35Speaker 2: gonna be playing golf. I'll tell you that. So that
- 8:36Speaker 2: way dad can at least go out there and play
- 8:38Speaker 2: with her, because I don't know about the shoulder in
- 8:40Speaker 2: the next twenty years, but I definitely know I can
- 8:43Speaker 2: still swing at golf club. No. Having George has been great.
- 8:47Speaker 2: He reminded me how to play the game, a little
- 8:50Speaker 2: bit more fun. And I think seeing him, how he
- 8:53Speaker 2: is able to get hit and have such an aggressive
- 8:55Speaker 2: type of game in the NFL, but he always has
- 8:59Speaker 2: a smile onness face and he's always joking around. And
- 9:01Speaker 2: I was like, I need to do a little bit
- 9:03Speaker 2: more of that. I need to go back to my
- 9:05Speaker 2: twelve year old self. And I call that. I called
- 9:07Speaker 2: playing baseball and my twelve year old self and take
- 9:12Speaker 2: the fun and bring the fun back, like when you're
- 9:14Speaker 2: playing against all of your buddies back in like elementary
- 9:16Speaker 2: school and you get to go back to school with
- 9:18Speaker 2: them on Monday after playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday at
- 9:20Speaker 2: Little League and joking around and having fun. And I
- 9:23Speaker 2: brought that back into it, and he helped me find
- 9:25Speaker 2: my inner self and my inner child again just by
- 9:28Speaker 2: watching him play.
- 9:30Speaker 5: So with this new contract, you're gonna buy dinner next
- 9:34Speaker 5: time you get your first paycheck, is it? Or is
- 9:35Speaker 5: it still You're gonna make George pay for everything.
- 9:38Speaker 2: George's paying for everything. He's the older brother. That's that's
- 9:44Speaker 2: the best part. He's the older brother. So but no,
- 9:49Speaker 2: he's great. He's helped me out with a lot of
- 9:51Speaker 2: stuff on and off the ballfield, just being a little kid,
- 9:54Speaker 2: and then also just a lot of recovery work and
- 9:56Speaker 2: activation work that that they have to go through. And
- 9:59Speaker 2: I was like, listen, if you're gonna get ran over
- 10:00Speaker 2: by a train once a week, the least I can
- 10:03Speaker 2: do is do half of your stuff so that way
- 10:04Speaker 2: I don't feel like I got ran over a train.
- 10:08Speaker 3: No, that's fair. I like that. But what are you
- 10:10Speaker 3: going to do with this newfound cash?
- 10:13Speaker 4: Like is there something that you've already in your mind
- 10:16Speaker 4: kind of earmarked, Like I do want to buy this.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I want to buy this for my wife. I want
- 10:20Speaker 4: to you know, I've always wanted this because thirty million
- 10:24Speaker 4: dollars is more money than ninety nine point nine.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Of the world ever sees.
- 10:31Speaker 4: And you signed a contract because you can kind of
- 10:35Speaker 4: throw a baseball pretty good.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Kind of throwing a baseball cratsy. The last time you
- 10:39Speaker 2: caught me, I think I was like ninety one to
- 10:42Speaker 2: ninety three, and you're just seeing the big well, the
- 10:45Speaker 2: big old gumby Cody uh when he was a little younger.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But do I have anything? There isn't really anything that
- 10:52Speaker 2: I want or need right now. What I want is
- 10:55Speaker 2: as a healthy baby and I want to be with
- 10:57Speaker 2: her and spend time with her and make sure my
- 10:59Speaker 2: mom my wife is so okay, call her my mama,
- 11:02Speaker 2: make sure mama is good, and uh, whatever she needs.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Probably get her a new mom car, because I got
- 11:07Speaker 2: my truck that I've got since I was drafted. That
- 11:10Speaker 2: was my like one big purchase I made, and I'm
- 11:12Speaker 2: pretty happy with that.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Probably a bunch of Star Wars stuff. Probably just a
- 11:17Speaker 2: bunch of Star Wars stuff, to be honest with you.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Maybe a life sized figurine of Darth Vader or whatever.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Okay, And and you would put that where you would
- 11:26Speaker 4: put that in your apartment in Toronto? Would you put
- 11:28Speaker 4: that in your locker in Toronto?
- 11:32Speaker 2: I probably just get the helmet right here and put
- 11:34Speaker 2: that in my locker. But the life size I'll probably
- 11:36Speaker 2: put on my front doorsteps. Oh, everybody walks up, and
- 11:39Speaker 2: it'll feel like it's trick or treating every time.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I like that trick or treating in July. That's good
- 11:44Speaker 4: when you're not there, if it feels like it feels
- 11:46Speaker 4: like somebody's protecting your house, even if it is the
- 11:49Speaker 4: dark snide.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, the dark side.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair. You talked about family. You joined a
- 11:56Speaker 4: new family. Everything we've heard about the Blue Jays, my
- 11:59Speaker 4: first a roommate and pro ball as your manager, John
- 12:01Speaker 4: Schneider like, there's there's a lot of things that lean
- 12:06Speaker 4: towards the blue Jays as being a family. Shane Bieber
- 12:10Speaker 4: accepts his player option that everyone's like, what, like he
- 12:14Speaker 4: could have gotten fifty.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Million on the market.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Have any of these blue Jays that are gonna be
- 12:18Speaker 4: your family reached out to you since you've signed.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I've had a few Miles Straw, Dalton, Var Show,
- 12:28Speaker 2: Boden Francis. You know, I've had a few guys reach
- 12:31Speaker 2: out to me and they're just like, we're happy that
- 12:33Speaker 2: you're here. Welcome to the family. It's gonna be a
- 12:37Speaker 2: fun time. I've talked to Skip and he seems like
- 12:41Speaker 2: like one of the boys, Like he just wants to
- 12:44Speaker 2: have fun, play baseball and win a lot of ball games.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Well, Var Show, you and I all played on the
- 12:50Speaker 4: same team USA team. How did that experience, Because we
- 12:56Speaker 4: talked about all the guys for America that are playing
- 13:00Speaker 4: for the WBC team. We talked about it yesterday. How
- 13:04Speaker 4: did that experience not because you got to throw to
- 13:08Speaker 4: one of the greatest catches of all time and me
- 13:10Speaker 4: but the experience of being in another country, the experience
- 13:14Speaker 4: of experiencing the Day of the Dead and Guadalajara on
- 13:18Speaker 4: your start day, experiencing like the just the atmosphere of
- 13:23Speaker 4: you have to win or you're done ski set you
- 13:27Speaker 4: up for the success that now you've had. It may
- 13:30Speaker 4: have taken a few years to come to fruition for you,
- 13:33Speaker 4: but how do you feel like that experience set you up.
- 13:39Speaker 2: When we went to Japan, hearing how those fans cheered
- 13:44Speaker 2: was something that I put in the back of my
- 13:45Speaker 2: brain and I was like, I want to play here.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I will like some point in my career, I want
- 13:50Speaker 2: to play here. Did I know two years later that
- 13:52Speaker 2: I was going to be flying to Hokkaido and be
- 13:55Speaker 2: playing for three years in Japan. No, but the atmosphere
- 14:00Speaker 2: something electric and something that I knew I wanted to
- 14:03Speaker 2: be a part of. And then when you go back
- 14:05Speaker 2: to Guadalajada and I get to go to my like
- 14:07Speaker 2: natural roots, like where my family's from Mexico and to
- 14:13Speaker 2: be a part of the Day of the Dead, and
- 14:15Speaker 2: you saw the half the face that I wore in
- 14:17Speaker 2: and people were asking are you going to pitch with
- 14:19Speaker 2: that on? I was like, I don't think I'm allowed to.
- 14:21Speaker 2: There's white, but no, it was amazing. It was uh
- 14:25Speaker 2: and the winner go Home. I think you kind of
- 14:27Speaker 2: take that into the postseason feeling that I got to
- 14:29Speaker 2: experience this year and I was like, ooh, I felt
- 14:34Speaker 2: this before, but I don't remember where it's from. And
- 14:36Speaker 2: now that you bring it up, it's like we go
- 14:38Speaker 2: back to that premiere twelve time and it's like you
- 14:41Speaker 2: step on the bump, like you have to be locked
- 14:44Speaker 2: in and ready to go.
- 14:46Speaker 4: What does it mean for you? What does it mean
- 14:48Speaker 4: for you to come to a team that you are
- 14:52Speaker 4: the second pitcher signed? Dylan Ceese was the guy that
- 14:55Speaker 4: they wanted to get they brought you in. What it
- 14:58Speaker 4: felt different if you were the bi Vegas signing for
- 15:02Speaker 4: because it's the Blue Jays for the Blue Jays this offseason?
- 15:05Speaker 4: Or is it cool that, oh, you know, they went
- 15:08Speaker 4: and got Dylan Ceasee, a guy who's going to start
- 15:12Speaker 4: a start a playoff game before me? Or does that
- 15:16Speaker 4: not matter to you because you were the man last year?
- 15:19Speaker 4: Do you need to be the man again?
- 15:24Speaker 2: I don't see myself as the man I see for
- 15:27Speaker 2: you as the man from last year. I've learned and
- 15:31Speaker 2: I will continue to learn in my career. I am
- 15:33Speaker 2: not somebody who's gonna go out there and say like, hey,
- 15:36Speaker 2: I'm the man. I know everything I don't. And I
- 15:39Speaker 2: think it's really cool that the Blue Jays also signed
- 15:41Speaker 2: Dylan Ceas and Shane Bieber and so many other guys
- 15:43Speaker 2: we have on this team that I can't wait to
- 15:45Speaker 2: learn from. I can't wait to see how they go
- 15:48Speaker 2: about their daily basis and their routines, and their ins
- 15:51Speaker 2: and outs and how they When I was watching were
- 15:54Speaker 2: you and watching other guys go about their business, it
- 15:57Speaker 2: wasn't so much of all right, I'm gonna watch how
- 16:00Speaker 2: you throw. It was like, I'm gonna watch how you
- 16:02Speaker 2: warm up in a gym. I'm gonna watch how you
- 16:04Speaker 2: walk up the stairs to go outside. Like I take
- 16:07Speaker 2: all of those little things into into thought to be like,
- 16:11Speaker 2: how can I make myself a little bit better? And
- 16:14Speaker 2: when you have a guy who has ten years in
- 16:16Speaker 2: the big leagues and has created something that nobody will
- 16:21Speaker 2: ever have again in the career. In Korea, he's known
- 16:24Speaker 2: as the Korean Monster, like that is amazing. And I
- 16:28Speaker 2: was like, the last thing I want to do is
- 16:29Speaker 2: feel like I'm better than somebody else when this man's
- 16:32Speaker 2: had this entire career, And why why shouldn't I be
- 16:36Speaker 2: able to learn from that?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Exactly. And I think if they learn and you're not,
- 16:41Speaker 2: you're not trying to.
- 16:42Speaker 5: I think that's something that people got to understand, Like
- 16:45Speaker 5: you could be good, but you can always be better
- 16:48Speaker 5: at anything you do. And for your circumstand you were
- 16:51Speaker 5: the MVP. So like, are you the guy if you
- 16:53Speaker 5: go back to Korea today? Are you get mob when
- 16:55Speaker 5: you get off the airplane? Like what happens now?
- 16:58Speaker 2: Todd Father? I don't, I don't know. I think I
- 17:00Speaker 2: just don't tell people I'm going to Korea if I'm
- 17:03Speaker 2: going back over there. It was pretty wild. It was
- 17:06Speaker 2: something I've never experienced before in my life. But it
- 17:10Speaker 2: was even more crazy about how my wife was treated,
- 17:13Speaker 2: you know, the stardom that she had. She started a
- 17:16Speaker 2: run club, her and Ryan Weisse's wife, Haylie Brooks, started
- 17:19Speaker 2: a run club in Korean that wasn't like a thing
- 17:22Speaker 2: in our city. And they were having close to hundreds
- 17:26Speaker 2: of people come out and do walking and running because
- 17:29Speaker 2: you know, when you're in your second and third trimester.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You're not gonna be running a five k once a week.
- 17:34Speaker 2: You're you're gonna be walking one or two miles and
- 17:36Speaker 2: call to day. So they did a walk and run
- 17:38Speaker 2: club and they grew their fan base as well. And
- 17:43Speaker 2: the way people treated not just me, but my wife
- 17:45Speaker 2: and our family when family members came in was absolutely amazing.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I know they do in Japan, but do they have
- 17:52Speaker 4: like songs for you in Korea? And if they do,
- 17:57Speaker 4: do you remember because I know they had Korean for
- 17:59Speaker 4: Korean for American batters, they had songs for the batters
- 18:03Speaker 4: because I played with Eric Dames, who, until you did
- 18:06Speaker 4: what you did, he was he was the king over there.
- 18:10Speaker 4: But I think you might the two of you might
- 18:14Speaker 4: be like you could go on a Korean baseball tour
- 18:16Speaker 4: and you guys would forever because he's done like the
- 18:19Speaker 4: Korean like the masked singer in Korea. He's gone back
- 18:23Speaker 4: and done other stuff. But do you remember your song
- 18:26Speaker 4: and can you sing it for us?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Do I remember my song? It was an eminem song
- 18:36Speaker 2: really and it wasn't like oh yeah, because they they created,
- 18:42Speaker 2: they didn't have a Korean singing song for me. So
- 18:44Speaker 2: what they did. Is ended up just playing American music
- 18:47Speaker 2: in like the fourth or fifth inning, and I think
- 18:50Speaker 2: it was Lose Yourself.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Okay, you that one?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, I'm pretty sure it was Lose Yourself.
- 18:58Speaker 2: But no, I didn't have a Korean song. But uh,
- 19:02Speaker 2: they played bust you know, bust down. Well they call
- 19:05Speaker 2: it bust down, but Mustard that the little ad lib
- 19:08Speaker 2: in a certain like rap song. So every time you
- 19:10Speaker 2: struck it struck a guy out, they were like Mustard.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So that's all that. That's what I can give you, guys.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Okay, okay, that's fair. That's fair.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I heard that. I heard that a few times this year.
- 19:22Speaker 4: That Yeah, I'm sure you did. I'm sure you got
- 19:24Speaker 4: a few mustangs. I'm gonna I'm gonna go back to
- 19:29Speaker 4: a less bearded I'm gonna show you this video and
- 19:31Speaker 4: I want you to try. I'm gonna try. I want
- 19:34Speaker 4: you to try to, uh just talk over it. I'm
- 19:36Speaker 4: not sure if we have audio on it or not,
- 19:38Speaker 4: but this is young Cody punks getting us our dinner.
- 19:46Speaker 4: That's Andrew Andrew Vaughan legend. Now, yeah, do you remember
- 19:51Speaker 4: do you remember exactly what happened there?
- 19:54Speaker 2: I think that's Tanner Hawk. Yep, that's Tanner how oh yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 2: we were fishing for dinner that They were like, you gotta, Cody,
- 20:03Speaker 2: can you get the big one for us? And I
- 20:04Speaker 2: was like, guys, I'll just reach in there and grab
- 20:08Speaker 2: it if I have to. But you just like you
- 20:11Speaker 2: had these little hooks on the end of your like
- 20:12Speaker 2: those little bamboo sticks. And I just went underneath and
- 20:16Speaker 2: I got it to swing underneath and I just ripped
- 20:18Speaker 2: it up into the fish so that way I can
- 20:20Speaker 2: get our dinner for us. But yeah, do I I
- 20:23Speaker 2: remember that like it's yesterday.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I didn't that.
- 20:26Speaker 4: I have been looking all morning for this video and
- 20:29Speaker 4: I didn't have our producer who just got it like
- 20:32Speaker 4: four seconds ago put it on here for us. But
- 20:35Speaker 4: I have the picture too afterwards. Basically, we ate that
- 20:39Speaker 4: fish sashimi style, and they bring it out and they
- 20:44Speaker 4: stick a stick through the tail and the head, and
- 20:48Speaker 4: when they brought it, they have all the sashimi, they
- 20:51Speaker 4: have all the fish meat that you eat sitting in
- 20:54Speaker 4: the middle of the body, and the tail was still
- 20:56Speaker 4: going like this.
- 21:02Speaker 3: On the place.
- 21:04Speaker 4: It was the freshest food ever. But I mean, yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 4: you I didn't even really I forgot that Hawk was there.
- 21:11Speaker 4: No Jonah Song was there, So there was. There was
- 21:16Speaker 4: a lot of a lot of legends there.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yep. But we had a good time.
- 21:20Speaker 4: And yeah, I to see you have success like this,
- 21:25Speaker 4: To see a guy come back from you know, oh,
- 21:29Speaker 4: he's never going to be a good big league player,
- 21:31Speaker 4: to now get a three year deal, I'm super impressed
- 21:34Speaker 4: with you.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Thank you, Cratzy. That means a lot. It means a
- 21:38Speaker 2: lot coming from you.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Hey, Cody, I got one more for you. Did you
- 21:43Speaker 1: watch the World Series this past year? I know you
- 21:45Speaker 1: mentioned how the Blue Jays were very enticing for a
- 21:47Speaker 1: variety of reasons, the offer, the family vibes, the success,
- 21:50Speaker 1: But did you watch the World Series and how crazy
- 21:53Speaker 1: it got in Canada and how ultimately I'm sure you
- 21:56Speaker 1: hope that you match up with the Dodgers again and
- 21:58Speaker 1: you take them down this year.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that was definitely tough to watch. You know. Time
- 22:03Speaker 2: change is a big thing. When you're halfway around the
- 22:05Speaker 2: world and you're just kind of sitting out there like, hey,
- 22:08Speaker 2: I think the World Series games on, and you're like, well,
- 22:11Speaker 2: toss it on your phone. You look down, you're like, oh,
- 22:13Speaker 2: they're already in the fourth ending. Sure, I'll just watch
- 22:15Speaker 2: the rest while we're having breakfast, you know, or if
- 22:18Speaker 2: you wake up on and they're on the East Coast,
- 22:20Speaker 2: which is when they were in Toronto, it was like, oh,
- 22:22Speaker 2: they're in the seventh and it's like, dang it, I
- 22:25Speaker 2: missed the entire part of the game. So the West
- 22:28Speaker 2: Coast games were great because I got to see even
- 22:30Speaker 2: I got to watch pretty much the whole game, and
- 22:32Speaker 2: then the East Coast games were tough because what was it,
- 22:35Speaker 2: nine am? Was eight pm there, so yeah, and then
- 22:38Speaker 2: also us being in the Korean series at the same time,
- 22:42Speaker 2: sleep schedule goes to out the window when you're playing
- 22:46Speaker 2: in the postseason. You're like, I need to sleep until
- 22:48Speaker 2: at least ten, so that way I can stay up
- 22:50Speaker 2: until nine or ten at night as well. So you
- 22:53Speaker 2: kind of just try to make whatever work you can.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fair. That was not top priority. Now it will.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So we're looking forward to it, man. Yeah, it's gonna
- 23:03Speaker 1: be really fun. Awesome team, awesome rotation. Great to talk
- 23:07Speaker 1: to you. These two were looking forward to chatting with you.
- 23:09Speaker 1: So you want to say, you want to say bye
- 23:11Speaker 1: top Father and ny K.
- 23:16Speaker 3: At least I don't want to say bye.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I like him. I like him at least not me
- 23:20Speaker 2: that Hey just make sure, Hey, Todd father, just do
- 23:23Speaker 2: me one favorite. When you see Nikki Cass next time,
- 23:25Speaker 2: you make sure that you give a little check for me. Okay,
- 23:28Speaker 2: because Nicky Cass, he's been on my radar and he
- 23:31Speaker 2: hasn't even texted me since I've been home, and I
- 23:33Speaker 2: was like, hey, brother, what's going on here? Shut out
- 23:37Speaker 2: shouring you out alive right now, Nikki Cass, I'm gonna
- 23:41Speaker 2: send it to big time.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Listen.
- 23:43Speaker 5: I haven't talked to him in a few minutes too, actually,
- 23:46Speaker 5: So we're gonna have We're gonna I'm gona have to
- 23:48Speaker 5: get on as you know what. I'll get him. I'll
- 23:50Speaker 5: get him.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he's big time.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Wait.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Sorry, one more thing, Cody, did you get any asks
- 23:54Speaker 1: for World Baseball Classic? And if you did, would you play?
- 23:58Speaker 2: I got to ask my team Mexico. So right now,
- 24:04Speaker 2: as of right now, I'm not one hundred percent sure.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I said that I do want to play, but as
- 24:09Speaker 2: I am now a Toronto Blue Jay, I have to
- 24:11Speaker 2: talk to my team and see what they want to
- 24:12Speaker 2: do and the best wishes for me from them. So
- 24:15Speaker 2: to have a Usa jersey half folded and have a
- 24:18Speaker 2: Mexican jersey half folded, putting together to represent both sides
- 24:21Speaker 2: of my family. It's one of the honors that I've
- 24:23Speaker 2: always wanted to be able to do. But Cratzy's pissed
- 24:28Speaker 2: because he's like, there's only one country you should be representing. Brother.
- 24:32Speaker 4: I mean, just because just because they beat us, just
- 24:35Speaker 4: because they beat us in the bronze medal game, Like
- 24:39Speaker 4: you're gonna go to that side. You're like, You're like
- 24:41Speaker 4: Tyler klash Now and Blake Snell. You're like, well, we
- 24:43Speaker 4: can't beat him with the rays, so we'll just join them.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Is that what you're dealing with?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Something? Go ahead, you want to know something funny is
- 24:52Speaker 2: I think Kirk played on that on that Team Mexico
- 24:56Speaker 2: team when we were playing in the Premier twelve, And
- 24:58Speaker 2: I not one hundred percent sure, but I would love
- 25:01Speaker 2: to look back if there's like a baseball reference or
- 25:03Speaker 2: something if he played on that, because the catcher for
- 25:06Speaker 2: Team Mexico for the entire fourteen hour flight that we
- 25:09Speaker 2: had was literally laying back in my seat the entire time. Well,
- 25:15Speaker 2: some veterans catchers got to sit up front in business
- 25:20Speaker 2: class and I don't want to hear it from you.
- 25:22Speaker 2: That was I don't want that was.
- 25:25Speaker 3: That was business class.
- 25:28Speaker 4: That was That's what I'm about. Oh and he laid
- 25:31Speaker 4: it back, Okay, he laid it back. I was a
- 25:34Speaker 4: business class I was. I was, I was laying back
- 25:37Speaker 4: to I was in I was. Oh everything, it was
- 25:40Speaker 4: the best.
- 25:42Speaker 3: That's another story we'll tell another time.
- 25:44Speaker 4: But you guys said me and Clayton could have the
- 25:49Speaker 4: Clayton could have the uh have the business class seats.
- 25:52Speaker 3: And so you're a big dog, bro, you need the
- 25:54Speaker 3: big seats.
- 25:54Speaker 4: They Hey, I sat in the middle seat on the
- 25:56Speaker 4: way back from Japan. God, little seat from Japan, ain't it?
- 26:02Speaker 4: And you're a big fellow to.
- 26:07Speaker 2: This.
- 26:08Speaker 5: On a bus in Puerto Rico, we're squashed for what
- 26:11Speaker 5: what was that one?
- 26:12Speaker 3: That was the pre moondu us A. That was my
- 26:16Speaker 3: o g usa. He would sit the window. I love
- 26:20Speaker 3: the window. I love the window. I'm windowing.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Tell me if I'm wrong. But sitting aisle seats way better.
- 26:29Speaker 2: You can throw your feet out the aisle to the
- 26:32Speaker 2: side a little bit.
- 26:33Speaker 5: You could you could turn, you could turn this way
- 26:35Speaker 5: and kind of lean on his shoulder if you wanted to, like,
- 26:38Speaker 5: come on, hey, every It was great though we had
- 26:44Speaker 5: those hour bus rides. Man, tired as all. Heck, we're
- 26:47Speaker 5: having fun back there. And then we went to Sizzler
- 26:49Speaker 5: at the end. That was the only place all we
- 26:51Speaker 5: did go to Sizlers. Didn't No, Sizzler was still around
- 26:54Speaker 5: at the time.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It is in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
- 26:58Speaker 1: He talks about it all the time. You talk about
- 27:00Speaker 1: it all the damn time. All right, well, Cody, you
- 27:02Speaker 1: let us know when you get the yes or the no.
- 27:04Speaker 1: But we'll see. Maybe we'll see in the WBC. Okay,
- 27:07Speaker 1: great to have you on man, and congrats on the
- 27:08Speaker 1: deal and we're excited to have you back in Major
- 27:11Speaker 1: League baseball.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Man, thank you, boys, appreciate it. We will thank you, boys,
