- 1:21SPEAKER_02: It's been thrown, it's been caught.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It's been caught, but see, here's the thing, though.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Because most people that have probably listened to my podcast, you know, uh probably know who you are because you are a staple, and I'm saying a staple because you're freaking a staple of the Inland Empire comedy scene.

- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.

- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Who is we?
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Who is they?
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: I think you're making these people up, first of all.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, a lot of people think I make up my listenership.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: No, but it's all real.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: I got the I got this I got the stats to prove it.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Uh but no, no, it's like, look, here's the he here's the thing, right?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I I first met you, and I want us to go back to the beginning.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: I first met you and saw you at a show at Barney, what no, not Barney's.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: It was at Chubby Cheeks Meatery in Temecula.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: That's correct, right?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Chubby Cheeks?
- 2:52unknown: Yep.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: That's so fun when Frank Martinez was uh doing a special.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Yes, Frank Martinez was doing a crowd work special, and for some reason the microphone kept going in and out on you, and I was so upset because you were so funny, and the microphone was like cutting it, cutting out like on your punch lines and stuff.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And I was like, can somebody freaking fix this mic?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Is this really funny, funny girls on stage?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And I I I can't even enjoy what's going on here because she keeps cutting out.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, that was a crazy.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that?
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I remember that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: That was crazy.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: That was crazy.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Have you have you ever had this is kind of transitioning into uh my one of my first questions here is have you ever had, besides that time, any other like technical difficulties while you're on stage or something where you've had to improvise because of some sort of technical issue or anything like that?
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, but uh just I I can think of two other instances where the technical problem was they had forgotten the microphone.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Uh and I had we had to orate.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: We had to orate the show.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: One of those instances was with you.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: And and the other one was at a at a party, which uh I'm I'm not the loudest person, so it's not the easiest thing for me to do.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Oh prick.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Now, when you were at the party, you there was just no wait, hold on.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: What was the time with me where I had no mic?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I forgot.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Um, when we did the show at Wine Now, Rancho Cucamonga.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Oh shoot, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't I didn't produce that show, but I was opening that show, and I do remember it being so funny because there was a really creepy guy that was sitting in the front row, and I and I referred to him the whole show as a school shooter.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Um, and I told him, like, we're good, like we're friends, we're buds, right?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Like, we're really cool, like you're awesome, you're amazing, like you're the best person I've met today.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Um that was crazy.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: I remember having that was I remember that too because that was so funny.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: You you had us dying in the back, that was absolutely priceless.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: You know, it's better than us dying in the front.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I tell you what, you gotta be careful with those people.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, and then obviously the party, the party.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Uh so what how how did that go with the party?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: You were just you just went a cappella, you just started kind of shouting, or what?
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: As loud as I could, dude.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: As loud as I could, and that's again, that's a hard thing for me to do because I'm not the loudest, I'm not usually the loudest person in the room.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: You know, my my voice doesn't project like that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Uh definitely don't have like PE teacher voice, you know.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Not not my thing.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't think uh personally, if I could gas you a little bit, I don't think you need to be the loudest person in the room because it becomes very clear how funny you are when you're on stage because of how great your joke writing is.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Now, let me ask you this since we're transitioning once again about your joke writing process.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Um, do you feel like you kind of pull from your own experiences to write, or do you just kind of look at life and just see the nuances of life and write from that?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Like what what what are the type of things do you do you like to write about to do in comedy?
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Uh I enjoy doing personal comedy, things that I've either experienced myself, things about myself, my family, my friends.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Uh just trying to take a moment that happened in real time and and make that something everyone can laugh at is is a real special thing to me.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Because it's almost like I'm reminiscing.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, the audience doesn't know I'm reminiscing with them, but I'm I'm reminiscing with them, which is always a really fun thing to do, right?
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: So uh I love doing that and I I pair it with some observational comedy.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: So if I'm ever able to twinkle it in or something like that, that's usually the the goal.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah is try to put it all together, but I I try to I try to stay away from observational comedy like alone.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Do you do you feel like for observational stuff, like let's say like the news, because there's some people that look at the news every day and then they write stuff based on what they saw today.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Do you do you feel like that's something that's uh kind of like a like a challenge for you to do, or just not something you're interested in doing at all and more just focused on what you like have experienced yourself?
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: It's uh I totally think that's a talent in and of itself when people are able to take a top like a singular topic and and dissect it and think of it every which way and kind of land on a style which is of their own and make it funny for for everybody.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: I I think that is a talent in and of itself.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Um it's not a talent that I'm saying I don't have, it's just one I prefer not to not to practice as much, more so because that's the thing is like this is this is a topic and and we can look at the nuance however we want.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: But if we're just looking at it as a topic by itself, I mean it it feels like we can all land on something within a degree or so of one another.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: And I just think it it's cool, it's more fun for me when I'm able to relate that to myself because I know it'll be I know it'll be more unique, I know it'll be singular.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: And and if I can't, I've probably told you this before, or if I have told you in the past and it's not the same, I I've changed my mind because I've been uh okay, so we're back.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Uh uh no, what I want to tell you is is uh just like I said, I reserve the right to change my mind at any time in the future.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: But my favorite joke that you have right now is the joke about the flotation device.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: The specific part of your joke with the flotation device that that somebody's friend had drowned and that there's a memorial, and that they keep the memorial floating.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Can I say the punchline?
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: But but not their friend.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um that that joke to me, the the the entire bit is great, but that specific part to me is so funny because it just it makes you just paint this visual picture in your mind of like, oh, have you seen that before?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Or have you seen it in a movie?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Have you seen it in real life?
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: And then you're just like, hey, so there's this thing, and I think this thing is funny because the friend wasn't floating, and then now they make this thing float and they keep it floating because like they don't want to mess up twice, you know?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And so I think that's so funny.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: It's just like it in itself is just a very funny observation, but of something that you've seen.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Um I I freaking love that bit.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Where does that bit rank for you uh out of all of the bits that you do that you that you like?
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a closer for me sometimes.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: It should be.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: It's freaking hilarious.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, because it could be a standalone joke too, if I if I just jump straight to it, right?
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: So if I do the bit in its entirety, it's about a two and a half, three and a half minute joke.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: But I could take that last, right?
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: That last what is it?
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: Just 45 seconds, minute and 15 seconds, and it it gets a it gets a great reaction every time, whether it's a laugh, whether it's a groan.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: I I love it.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's freaking, I think it's so hilarious.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: For me right now, just like I said, I'm I'm reserving the right to change my mind at any moment.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: But if you'd have to ask me, gun to my head right now, funniest bit you have, funniest part of any bit you have right now, that's the one I'm going with.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: I think it I think it's great.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Now, let me ask you, because I know every single one of our bits that we have, like that we that we love, is like our is like our baby.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So uh what bit do you have that you think is like if you if you can decide, I know it's so hard, but what do you think is like your favorite bit to do?
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: My favorite bit to do or my f okay.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, like well what's the what's what's the like bit you've written that you're the most proud of?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: And I know that it's like saying which kid you like the most.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I get it, but like it can you quantify that?
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Like, I wrote this and I was so happy.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: I was so proud of myself.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: I I hold on one second.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: No, girl, we're this is Karmity.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Back it up, girl, back it up.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: You're doing great.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: So that that question just depends on how you want to frame it, right?
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: That because that can be either the the joke I love the most, whether it's not, whether it's not the most well received all the time, but I love I love it, and I want it I want the audience to love it as much as me, but sometimes they don't.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: There's that joke.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: Or there's the joke that is the most well received, and the one that I like doing the most because I'm like, oh yeah, they they're with me.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Go with go with let's go with the first one.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Not don't leave it up to the audience.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: What's like your favorite thing that you've written?
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Um, this joke that I do about crack babies.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: About crack babies?
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: How I'd like to adopt one.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Have you ever heard me do that one?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: I think I have definitely heard it before.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I can't quote it like word for word, but I if you started saying it, I probably remember.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: At the end of the day, the the joke is mainly about um the the nuance of being pro-life and also being a a crack whore, right?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Like Yeah, because that's something all of us have definitely experienced.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Um I mean talk about relatable moments, huh?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Hello.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: So that's that's a joke I love just because especially like the I'm I don't want to give it away or whatever, but like the punch arm and stuff like that, I I think they're really I think they're really fun to to say.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: I think it's fun to to let it varinate with people because everyone catches it at a different pace.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: Um but I mean as far as like a joke being the most well received and one that always like everyone's on board with me is I I do love telling my uh what like my working in construction joke.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: It's especially now that I have it that uh you know it correlates with the fighting joke and all that good stuff.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Like I I really love that whole eight-minute stretch now a lot.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and if somebody wants to go see it, I mean just a little snippet of that construction joke, they can watch that clip that got over 350,000 views on it, and that is just one little part of the entire bit, which should be somewhere.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: People should be able to watch you somewhere, Melissa.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, somebody needs to get a don't tell special, you know what I'm saying?
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Um, no, it's it's freaking great.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I love that though.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I love that, you know, and I'm sure the crack baby uh, you know, bit doesn't work well in Hemant because it hits too close to home.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Um but uh no, that's that's great.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: I freaking I love that.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Um, and now obviously you are a person that I talk to quite a bit.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Um we we we talk off and on so much because we both drive a lot, or at least I used to drive a lot, and now I don't really drive a lot anymore for my new job, but um, we would call each other from the road all the time.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: And considering this is the Carmedy podcast, uh, what's your relationship like with the road?
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: And and you driving and how much you drive?
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Do you even enjoy driving anymore?
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Or is it just a chore because you kind of do it for your job?
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Like, what's the deal with you and driving?
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Uh I I do I do love to drive still, especially on a beautiful day, beautiful morning, beautiful evening.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Beautiful any time of day.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Cause I I I am a I am a windows down type of gal.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, love it.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: And you got a nice and you got a nice ride.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I can't complain.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Uh every vehicle I drive in is is very comfortable and I I'm very grateful uh through and through.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, but it's it's it's a tour when there's traffic.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: That's something I haven't shaken yet.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Uh I I don't sit in traffic too much now.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Very you know, when I'm hitting the 15 or every now and then when I'm touching the 10.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I'm still hitting traffic, but like I oh man, I drove to Beverly Hills every day for two years of my life.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Oh shit.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I carpled, grant grant granted, I carpled on I had a my boss, I would carple with my boss who would drive a lot, I would sleep.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: But it was still it was still it just took so much of my life that I man, when you calculated the fact that you're on the road for like almost six hours a day, it really takes a mental toll on you, you know.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: No, I feel it.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: It's I feel like that compounded for a little bit, and I and I'm coming clean, like I'm I'm I'm shaking that off.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: It's just it's not happening as fast as I want it to, because I still hate sitting in traffic, dude.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: No, traffic is the worst.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, everybody hears me scream about it on here when people cut me off.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I almost died one time on this podcast, like I actually almost died.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and it it's just it's it's freaking it's freaking crazy.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Um now tell tell the people your favorite travel snack.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: What's your favorite travel snack?
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: What's your go-to snack, go-to beverage?
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Rotisserie chicken and water.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Just the whole bag chicken from State of Horse, just ripping it as you're in freaking cruise control, just ripping it off the bone.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Road rotisserie.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Only a couple people will get it, but it's a good snack.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Road rotisserie is so funny.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: And then if I'm not drinking water, sugar-free Red Bull.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Sugar-free Red Bull and some road cock.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, that is insane.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I did not think you're gonna say rotisserie chicken.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: You've never been on a road trip with me.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: I've never been on a road.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: No, we have to go on a friggin' comedy road trip with the buds and friggin', yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: I guess we're gonna start passing around rotisserie chicken.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Like, hey, you get a leg, you get a thigh, you get a boob, you know, it's the whole thing.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: No, I love that.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Uh also two, hold on, we gotta break this down.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: How many naps are you going through on your steering wheel?
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: How greasy is your freaking steering wheel?
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Steering wheel's crystal clean, dude.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Because the other thing I do is I I get a lot of Chipotle burritos.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pretty much.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: But I'll get a lot of Chipotle burritos for the road as well.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: And I and I jack a bunch of Chipotle napkins every time.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: That that's what I'm you know, those brown ones are great.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: By the way, if you're in a pinch and you need to wipe, just saying, they're not the worst thing to have.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Um, they're great.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: I'm a great glove compartment full of them.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: They're they they tease us with it too.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Because they're they're uh napkin dispensers, for some reason, they let you get their your fingers all the way in there.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Not all napkin dispensers let you put four fingers all the way in there.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: And they do.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: So it's their fault.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: You let me get a handful, I'm gonna take a handful.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: I also think they know it because there's always like eight or ten freaking napkin dispensers.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: It's like they they know a lot of napkins.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Yes, and the way that most Chipotle's are set up, like I not all Chipotle,'cause most Chipotle's, it's like around the corner.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: And so, like, you don't get you don't get seen.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like they they they hide it on purpose.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's no shame in just walking out that emergency exit that has to be open during business hours, you know what I'm saying?
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: You just grab a handful and walk out.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: You put some soda in the water cup first and you walk out.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, you're a real bad guy.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: I don't do that.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: I just there's the uh that was just for funny.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: No, I've never never I pay for soda, come on.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Um, no, no, no.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: I'm only friends with honest, honest stand-up guys.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Honest stand up fellas.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: No, I believe that.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Uh so Melissa, you've you've come with me uh and done the heat wave comedy tour now the last two years, which has been so fun.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and definitely want to uh have you on this next year too.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Uh what do you what do you think as far as shows we've done together?
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: What was like the funnest show that you ever remember us doing together?
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Ooh, that's a hard question.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: It is, it is.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Okay, does it have to be specifically a heat wave show?
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be a heat wave show.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I'm I just that was the transition.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: But it could be any show that we've been on together or any I'm gonna because after I'm gonna tell you a specific moment that I thought was so funny um of something that happened.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: But I'll let you go first.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: So uh two heat wave shows that stand out to me a lot were the first the first one we did uh for the first heat wave uh in Palm Springs.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: Remember?
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: It was me, you, Mike, Pierce and who was the guest?
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: It was at the Rock Gallery.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I brought Mike James as my guest.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: It was at The Rock Gallery, right?
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, at the Rock Gallery.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: So I brought George Guzman, you brought Mike James, and Pierce brought Ozzy.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was such a fun show.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Show at the Raw Gallery, dude.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: That was.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: I remember that being a beautiful kickoff.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: It was a beautiful kickoff to the whole thing that ended up being the legacy of Heat Wave, bro.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: And then this year, I would say the weekend, the back-to-back shows we did at above at Above the Iron were really fun and super memorable.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: And outside Heat Wave, or I guess the other one that was memorable was the last one in Joshua Tree.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: That was really cool because it was a beautiful night.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: And uh the cat bird show in Joshua Tree was freaking super duper awesome.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: That was a freaking great show.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Imagine, imagine the freaking cat is blowing up like crazy right now.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Freaking, I'm not gonna be able to get her back at Joshua Tree anytime soon, but uh it was fun.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Whoa, at last the cat.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Um, no, that's it's freaking sick.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I love those.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: I love those shows, and I gotta tell you, let me comment on that first show that you mentioned, the the very first heatwave show at the Rock Gallery.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: So, for those of you that don't know, or or if you do know, um, the Heat Wave comedy tour this last year, we had five people on it, and even from the first year, what my thought was is that the people I had on the tour, we were gonna rotate headlining.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So we're rotating like 20-minute sets, and uh everybody gets an opportunity to get a headlining set, and then based on how many shows we do, I was kind of like evenly distributing everybody like headlining, and so we were constantly rotating, and it's a really, really fun, cool way to do a tour.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: And the that first one that I did, headlining, which was that rock gallery first show.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: I you guys buried me.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: If my memory of that, if I'm being honest, is that you guys were so funny, it was so hard for me to be so funny.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: I was intimidated by how funny you guys were when I went on stage.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: If I'm being 100% honest, you guys were so funny that I was like, frick.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Like, I have so much work to do.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: But you from what I remember, you smashed it, dude.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: There's I'm just telling you, in my own mind, I was like, I'm so happy these people are doing this, and I'm I'm gonna be so happy when this particular set is done so that I can just do better and and open for these guys.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Because then obviously we switched out doing hosting, but freaking Mike James crushed it.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Shout out Mike James.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: We're we're both driving to a mic right now, by the way.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: Um, which Mike James is hosting, which is gonna be freaking amazing.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and then if I'm doing the math correctly, I think we have about like six and a half minutes left of doing the math right because uh it kind of got split up a little bit.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh yep, there's another reminder.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, no, that that that one was so fun, and I'm so glad about the shows that we did this year, too.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Um, you crushed all the headlining sets this year that you did.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: They were really freaking fun.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Um, I gotta say, too, there was a moment.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna say the word.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna just put on there that this it has a bad word in it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: But that there was one time we were doing a show at the industry, and the show was so bad.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: The show, you know what I'm talking about already.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: The show was so bad because people had just watched football and they were super rowdy, they did not want to hear comedy immediately after watching football, that people were talking over you so loudly that you said you would rather be raped than continue doing your set.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: And I gotta say, Melissa, in the current climate of where we are today, that was one of the funniest things I have ever heard you say.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: I I I literally saw Mike James almost pee himself when you said that.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: It was so funny and so left field, because that's that's something I've never heard you say or anything like that before.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: I don't usually say it.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: That's the only time I've ever said it.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Do you remember what I said right after it?
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I don't.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: I was laughing so hard from that.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: What did you say after?
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: I thought at least that guy might be listening to me.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: I don't even remember you said that.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: I was so frustrated.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: That was definitely the worst show I've ever put on.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: It was too much.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: That was really that was a good moment for all of us, though.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: All of us that were on that show, that was a great moment for all of us.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: It was worth it.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you look back, right?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: You you could say, oh, everything happens for a reason.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you believe that or not, but I think I think pretty much everything happens for a reason, right?
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: And that show, if you look back, that show may have been for the one reason of us having that memory of you saying that.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: If I'm being completely honest.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: None of us worked on anything good that that night.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: It wasn't like it wasn't a good show, it was a crappy show, but that moment will go down in history for as long as we know each other.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: That was so funny.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Uh that was that's by far the craziest thing I've ever said on stage.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: The cra that's the craziest thing you've ever said?
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Oh man, that's freaking wild.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: I've said some blasphemous things on stage, but that's like the craziest thing I've said on stage.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you have you said, yeah, you're gonna have to take that up with God.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Um, way to hell.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: No way, get off of it, make a U-turn! Um, no, but for real.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Uh so you're freaking hilarious.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: And and I know people would love enjoying a pod from you.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: And so I know we've talked about it privately, but is there is there any way we can get uh a podcast from you in the future, or maybe some YouTube content from you in the future?
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Behind the scenes with Melissa would go crazy, by the way.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Day in the life of where everyone can watch me eat rotisserie chicken and drive.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Rotisserie, okay, listen rotisserie chicken in the morning, you go do work, right?
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: And I know you're you're very uh, dare I say vital, although some people at your job wouldn't agree.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, I can cut that out.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: Uh vital person at your job.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Uh and and and you could record, oh, you're like, oh, I'm so freaking fit, and I got these guns, I got these guns on me, you know, and then the comedy stuff.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, you could be a social media content creator, like if you really tried.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: You could probably do it really good too.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Oh Dave, I appreciate that.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I I I love my life too much to do that to myself, though, dude.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: I gotta there's gotta be a little separation, you know what I mean?
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, I want people to love me, but yeah, content creation, I feel like people are recording their whole lives for that.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: But yes, to answer your question, without the grandiosis stuff, I do want to bring back the podcast.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, something that is a that is a 2026 goal for me.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: And um that me putting putting that on the podcast is big shit because I got two months left in 2026.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: And so I I kind of wanted to begin it.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I wanted to begin it with with the call to action as a former podcast host, and that's kind of where I wanted to to begin to close it because I'm like, we your podcast was so funny, it was so unique, in a sense that it wasn't even just interviewing comedians, you just interviewed people that were artists that had a medium that you found interesting, and you just you did your own thing, you weren't trying to be somebody, you weren't, and I I I was inspired by that.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: This this podcast was really inspired by that, where you know, I I used to listen to like Nikki Glazer's pod where she would just record what she wanted, and when she was walking around the city, I just record in the car, but I'm just recording stuff and talking about stuff that I want to talk about, or interviewing people that I want to interview.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: And I that's a page right out of your book, if I'm being honest.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: So I appreciate that.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: That that means the world to me, honestly.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: That if I if I can even be like a drop of motivation, whatever, and in your story, that's freaking priceless to me because your story means a lot to me personally, right?
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: You're you're one of my closest friends, and uh that that's awesome.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: I I do want to bring it back.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it'll look the same or be the same.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: But I I do want to bring it back.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: It's just uh, you know, something in the future.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: We got some cadet bellies outside today.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Well, look, whether or not it looks exactly the same, you know, it it's all it uh that that remains to be seen, however you want to do it, but it's still gonna have you in it, so it's still gonna be good.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: It's still gonna have you, it's still gonna have your personality.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: The be the people love you, Melissa, they really do.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: And everybody on here already know they know you, but e even if they don't know you, which they do, tell them where they can find you on the social medias.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Uh at Melissa Nammy on both Instagram and YouTube.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: That's those are my social medias.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, the YouTubes as well.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, go binge watch the medium podcast, all the old episodes.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Yep, when not getting back out, thank you.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: You can go see them.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: They're still they're still great, they're still awesome.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Go follow her, go like her 350,000 view uh clip, uh viewed clip.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: I can't talk around royalty, comedy, i.e.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: comedy royalty.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, let's freaking go.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: No, Melissa, thank you so much for being on the pod, though.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna see you here in a little bit because I'm gonna pull up to that mic.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, and you have any shows coming up that you want to plug really quick.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: You have any uh uh cool shows you have coming up?
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: I have uh, oh my god, I have a few dates coming up.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: I got a couple dates in October.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm I'm gonna be in San Clemente.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: I don't have them off the top of my head.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: The big one though coming up, which I would love to see a lot of people at is December 17th at the Corona Improv with the Buddy System.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: That would be amazing to see the brand new Corona Improv.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: You're gonna be there, the buddy system's gonna be there, Mike James is gonna be there, Hunter Ladner is gonna be there.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Um, who else is in the lineup?
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Mike Baker.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: Mike Baker, Mike Baker, yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Mike James, George Farido, Carlos Patino, and Hunter Ladner and myself.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be rad.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: It's a freaking sick show.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: December 17th, the brand new Corona Improv.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: You got no excuses.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: It's a beautiful venue with some amazing comics.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Melissa, thanks so much for being on the pod.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: Talk to you soon, talk to you soon, be safe, and I love what you're doing.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: All right, guys, goodbye.
