- 0:10Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to the Property Unleashed podcast with me, mark Fitzgerald.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's great to have you joining me here today.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And today I am joined by a special guest, pam Shanker, a good friend of mine, who I met in 2019 actually doing the Mastermind programme.
- 0:28Speaker 1: She is a successful property investor, a success coach and, overall, a lovely, lovely lady, so it's an absolute joy to welcome you to the show.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Pam, how are you today?
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm very good.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Thank you, mark, and thank you for inviting me.
- 0:43Speaker 1: No problem.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So, Pam, for people that don't know about you, can you tell us a little bit about?
- 0:47Speaker 2: yourself, please?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, of course I can.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So I was a civil servant for many years.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I was a civil servant actually for 28 years, and then woke up one morning, read an article about a lady that had been really successful in property and just thought I'd like to do that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I was very fortunate that I had two years' salary on one side that I was able to use and also enough to buy a house.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But in that moment I just decided to give up my job and go into property.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I didn't have a clue what I was doing other than what I'd watched on the TV Homes Under the Hammer but I just was so inspired by this lady that and she was running a course to give back to women that I decided that that's what I wanted to do to hop on this course and learn all about property.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I didn't know what I was doing, but I just knew that, whatever it would take, I would do it, however uncomfortable or you know, I would make a success of it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And I just had an unshakable belief that it would be successful and I threw myself into it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And yes, seven years later, I'm still in property, still love property.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But yeah, it did, it worked, it was great.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So I mean, we all love homes under the hammer, the programs like that Cerebini I can't remember what it was called, was it snakes or something like that, wasn't it Property lander?
- 2:16Speaker 1: That was it.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So there's been loads of them out there that I think as a population in a nation, we fall in love with these things.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But obviously the realisation is property investing, whilst it can be very rewarding and profitable, can be very hard as well.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It can be very difficult.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It does come with these challenges.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So I always say it's always good to look at people who are a few steps ahead of you, that you can just follow, so to speak, the processes and things.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Now, initially, when you got involved in property and you were doing short term rentals, weren't you?
- 2:46Speaker 2: So the first thing I did was an HMO.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I didn't even know what an HMO was when I started my business in February 2017.
- 2:56Speaker 2: But by the September, I'd bought a terrorist house and I'd taken it back to brick and I was converting it into a four bed mini mo that was ready by the December and that went out to a housing association to house homeless men.
- 3:12Speaker 2: So, as my first property, it was a real win-win for me.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So, yeah, that has been a really successful property for me and it is still out to a housing association even now.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And then, from there, I just went on to do single lets.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So I've got a number of single lets and also I've done rent-to-rent service accommodation and property sourcing.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So, yeah, but I'm still buying, but it does tend to be single lets.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's a bit of a hold on at the moment, but it won't be long before I start buying again.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Excellent.
- 3:52Speaker 1: That's what it's all about at the end of the day.
- 3:53Speaker 1: So you've sort of put your hand to quite a few different things.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Is there anything that was particularly stood out for you that you like to know and do know with the social housing thing, that was a bit of a passion of yours was to not just put accommodation together, but was to put accommodation together to be able to help specific people.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Wasn't it Get back on their feet, so to speak, and things like that?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Absolutely so how has that gone for you?
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's been absolutely fine.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It was with one housing association and then that term expired and then I moved on to another housing association.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's worked for me, it worked very well for me and it's great to be able to get a property to a good standard, and then what I like to do is hand it over and move on to the next thing.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not really wanting to do the day to day, necessarily, but it's good to be able to hand it over on a long term and then just any issues which are very infrequent deal with those.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But yeah, it's been a really good property.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Excellent, excellent, and of course, the deal sourcing side of it as well.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You grew quite a bit for business there, didn't?
- 5:02Speaker 2: you, I did, yeah, so that started in lockdown actually and I was helping overseas investors and UK investors grow their wealth through property.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So, yeah, sourced an awful lot of property in that couple of years, from actually 2019, it started, but then in 2020, it started as a business right the way through to last year and then I eased off last year.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'm still doing some property sourcing, but I just had another one of my epiphanies last year and decided to get into coaching.
- 5:40Speaker 2: So, yeah, very much following my heart.
- 5:43Speaker 2: So I do love property.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I find it very rewarding.
- 5:47Speaker 2: As you say, it can be really hard work and challenging, but there are such great rewards as well.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Now you haven't gone into normal coaching, have you Per se?
- 5:58Speaker 1: You're not teaching people how to deal with source or do rent to essay or anything like that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You're actually very, very, I would say, niche in what you're doing, which is success coaching.
- 6:08Speaker 1: A lot of it's about mindset.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Of course, we all know that the stronger you can make your mindset, the better.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But this has been a real, real passion for you that I followed you over, followed you.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We've been friends, so I see you on my feed and things like that.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And, of course, you've started having events.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You've started just explain to me because maybe I've got an idea but I'm not 100% sure what the Universal Cafe is.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So if I just go a little bit further, back to how I ended up getting into coaching in the first place, if you don't mind.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So I, in June last year June 2022, I ended up with shingles.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It was in my head and all down my face and I was in agony with it and to me it was just another wake-up call.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It was a wake-up call to do something differently and I decided I just sat and reflected for a little while.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I just took some time, just a couple of weeks, to sit and think what do I really want to do?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Because I've given up my job.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I've given up the trek into the city and the trek back again, and the corporate job, if you like, and I had created another job, that I'd replaced one job with another and I was running faster and faster and faster and trying to satisfy so many different people and then became ill and I just thought what would I really like to do?
- 7:33Speaker 2: And actually just my journey of having a job and then not having to be that for the rest of my life, to actually have a choice, that you can do something different, that you have to have this belief and you have to have a clear vision and a plan and take action.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But just because you're doing something today doesn't mean that you can't do something different tomorrow.
- 7:58Speaker 2: We all have a choice, and so I'd seen people around me that had decided to take a different path because I had.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And then I thought, well, maybe then my story could empower other people to do something differently.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And so I decided to get into coaching, decided I wanted to get an accreditation, so I'm accredited with the International Coaching Federation, and out of that was born the University Cafe.
- 8:30Speaker 2: That was one of the first things I did.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That was started in September last year 2022.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And the principle was to get people, like-minded people, to come together and provide a cafe or provide a space or an environment where people could come, they could create a vision, they could create a plan and they could work towards those goals.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And it started in earnest really, because I started it in September, but it was a real fledgling.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It started properly in January and it's just grown and grown and grown.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So I have a pop-up cafe in Manchester.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Once a month People come along and I've seen within that community people make real significant changes in their lives, people that have actually taken career breaks to do something different, that have started businesses that are now doing fun things.
- 9:29Speaker 2: So there's one lady in particular that's just retiring and she was just a little bit lost as to what to do next and I just said go back to your childhood, what did you enjoy?
- 9:43Speaker 2: So she's now wild swimming and she's doing some amazing, real amazing things.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And her she's got a great philosophy in life now which is spreading amongst our group and it's just say yes.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Just say yes If somebody offers you some, just say yes.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So she's having to go everything and it's wonderful to see that.
- 10:04Speaker 2: You know it's a part of the universe cafe that she's been empowered to do that.
- 10:08Speaker 2: So I do run these events once a month and then also I run retreats once every six months as well in Manchester and we ran one in September and it was really great feedback.
- 10:21Speaker 2: As we finished that event, everybody signed up for the next one.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So again, it is very much about celebrating success.
- 10:29Speaker 2: The cafe is.
- 10:31Speaker 2: The principle is that it doesn't matter who you are, your age, your gender or your background.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You can be, do and have whatever you want with a clear vision, a plan, and you take action.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You know I was.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I was in my 40s when I had my first epiphany to get into property from nothing and just knew that I would make it and then again last year had another one and thought you know this, what do I want to do that gives me joy, that makes me happy every day, that gets me up and you know, I think, wow, what?
- 11:07Speaker 2: This is what I do today.
- 11:09Speaker 2: This is amazing and you know.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So why can't everybody else do that?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Why can't you find your joy and find it?
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know, because people say what's your why?
- 11:19Speaker 2: And people say you know, I want to retire, I want a nice car, I want a big house, I want a legacy of my children.
- 11:25Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, what we're doing is chasing a feeling.
- 11:28Speaker 2: We're chasing that feeling of calm, happiness, security, joy.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So why don't we fast forward that?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Why don't we start living in that space right now, today?
- 11:39Speaker 2: Because we can.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You know, in all the terms of the law of attraction, you have to live it before you're actually going to attract it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So start living it today and start, you know, making those changes, have those goals and take those steps to get there, one step at a time.
- 11:56Speaker 2: You know really small steps, but just keep moving.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And you know, as part of my coaching because I do coach one-to-one and group sessions and I do programs it's all about having that clarity of vision, creating that plan and just keep moving.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And you know, when we're working on our own, sometimes we hit a block or we find the fear.
- 12:23Speaker 2: In fact, we hit a wall, that's, you know, got a fear written on it and we stop and then that wall doesn't go away, it just grows.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So it's, you know, it's about pushing through that or breaking it down, just to keep moving, because you will always succeed.
- 12:44Speaker 2: There was a 100% guarantee that you will succeed if you keep moving.
- 12:47Speaker 2: You know, it might, it depends how long it will take you, but you just need to keep moving.
- 12:54Speaker 2: So the cafe to go back to your original question is about empowering people to make changes, to have whatever they want, to dream and to get there, to actually practically get there.
- 13:13Speaker 1: That's brilliant.
- 13:13Speaker 1: That's brilliant.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I'm massive on communities as well.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I think you know if you want to go fast, going your own, if you want to go far, you go together.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so by actually you know, being able to talk it into existence with other people and letting yourself go and surrounding yourself with like-minded people is amazing and it's quite funny.
- 13:31Speaker 1: You should say the actions that you said them, because I sign out a lot of my podcast episodes.
- 13:35Speaker 1: You should be better for those and things by saying make sure you have a vision, make sure you know exactly what it is that you want.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Then break that vision down into bite-sized chunks and steps and actions that you can do Every day, because it works.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And it's the same as really just getting down and boiling down to knowing what you want.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Because when you speak to a lot of people, you know you talk about the epiphany moments.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I had mine, the same Probably, when I was about 40 41.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So you know you could say I've wasted a lot of time to get there.
- 14:07Speaker 1: But I don't look at it like that, because I was never ready.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I was never ready for it before.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I would have never taken the actions that I took.
- 14:14Speaker 1: The mindset wasn't correct and I also I'm just touching on a lot of what you've spoken about there I do think that the first few things that you do Aren't always the things that you're going to continually do, or aren't those epiphany moments that will you know that you'll have your life purpose?
- 14:31Speaker 1: They are the stepping stones of you finding that.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I believe, and I always think you know, it could take three or four different things, different roles, different businesses, before you find the one that you're truly, truly passionate about.
- 14:42Speaker 1: And I do think, when, when you, when you ask people, you know what do you want, how do you want to live in things it could.
- 14:48Speaker 1: A lot of people don't know.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They're like, well, I don't really know, you know, just just wanted an easy life.
- 14:52Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 14:53Speaker 1: You've got to talk to the universe, but you're gonna say the right things as well yeah, the universe, and, of course, to yourself to be able to take those actions.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Um, so, obviously, you've worked with a lot of people.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Now you know when, when, how do you find it?
- 15:07Speaker 1: When you say to somebody Well, what do you want?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Do you find that you get more?
- 15:12Speaker 1: People are like, I don't really know, because that, for me, is something that can take you months, potentially even years, to really find out what you want.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Um but yeah, I just like your take on that as well.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 2: So when we talk about what we want really, we should start with how do you want to feel?
- 15:27Speaker 2: Because, um, for some people.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And then, and then you know, for some people, what we, what, what we want, might be something material, but for others it might just be trees and a walk in the woods, and you know time spent with the kids on a sunday and you know reading a story at bedtime, and it's actually Experiences rather than things.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And experiences give us feelings, you know, give us those feelings, those higher vibrations of joy.
- 15:54Speaker 2: So, um, in a, from a practical sense, when people Don't know what they want Really, we are trying to look at what's your long-term goal, you know, what's your five-year plan, what's your 10-year plan, what's even beyond that?
- 16:08Speaker 2: What do you really want that to look like?
- 16:10Speaker 2: What needs to happen now?
- 16:12Speaker 2: What sort of financial figures do you need to live now and then, what sort of financial figures do you need to have that lifestyle in the future?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Because we are always looking towards that grand plan.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Even our little plans work towards that grand plan.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Um, and so, um, in terms of, you know, I break it down into health, wealth, relationships, life and business, and, um, um, work with people on all of those areas, and it's about having a balance around all of those areas.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Um, so I I actually think One of the answers I can give you is look at a financial figure.
- 16:52Speaker 2: What sort of financial figure are you looking to try to achieve, whether that's a monthly income, and then how are you going to do that and how are you going to do that in a way that you're going to enjoy what's that, what's the most fun you can have in getting getting to that figure?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Uh, and you know we all need to earn money and we all need cash flow.
- 17:10Speaker 2: So it's, how can you do that, that in a sustainable way that will, you know, make you happy?
- 17:16Speaker 2: And a lot of people have a job and actually want to create passive income, and there's different ways of getting that passive income.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So it's it's about, if you imagine scales, we've got the job and that's got.
- 17:30Speaker 2: That's our income, um, but actually we'd like passive income here, so we're trying to get from there to there.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Well, how do we do that?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Um, so, so where is this passive income going to come from?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Or where's a different, alternative stream of cash flow going to come from?
- 17:45Speaker 2: So it's about analyzing all of that Um, and building in.
- 17:49Speaker 2: How are you going to cash flow, doing the things that you love and doing the things that you enjoy?
- 17:53Speaker 2: So that was one answer in terms of another answer as to what do you want?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Um, again, it's, it's.
- 17:59Speaker 2: It's finding a feeling.
- 18:01Speaker 2: What sort of feeling are you looking for?
- 18:02Speaker 2: Uh, and, in terms of life and balance, because I coach people around how to get that balance between life and business so that you've so you've got the cash coming in, but you can actually spend time doing what you love as well.
- 18:16Speaker 2: We're not a slave to to earning money.
- 18:19Speaker 2: It's about trying to get that balance across everything and enjoy everything.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You know we're here for however long we're here, and it's just about enjoying everything every day.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So it's getting to that point and if that's in your private, you know, in your personal life, if that's going whilst women or climbing or whatever you enjoy, well, get it fitted in, fit it in.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I'm a big one that, within my cafes, I always start with success.
- 18:48Speaker 2: We always look at where are we right now?
- 18:52Speaker 2: And, you know, just look back and let's look at our recent successes because, in terms of stepping out and stepping forward, if we're building on the success we've raised in our vibrations and we're going out with a really positive, successful attitude.
- 19:07Speaker 2: So we always look at success.
- 19:09Speaker 2: And the next thing is we look at self love and you know, in terms of, in that respect, we look at you know, why are we wonderful?
- 19:20Speaker 2: Why are we wonderful Right now?
- 19:22Speaker 2: What have we got to offer?
- 19:23Speaker 2: Why are we special?
- 19:25Speaker 2: You know what skills and qualities have we got?
- 19:28Speaker 2: And some people that come to the cafe sit there and go.
- 19:30Speaker 2: What do?
- 19:31Speaker 2: I just can't write anything, you know, and they start off with a blank page and gradually, as they come and I ask the same question, gradually we start to get this.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Is this coming out?
- 19:41Speaker 2: Because actually this is where our self belief comes from, our inner confidence.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Or, if we can, you know, we have to love ourselves first, we have to really love ourselves first, and the way we love ourselves and treat ourselves, we're giving, we're showing people how to treat us.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So you know, it's a really great way of building, you know, building that inner confidence.
- 20:05Speaker 2: And and yeah, does that answer your question?
- 20:11Speaker 1: It does.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It does.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I mean you can ask what you want people to say.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Well, I want to be happy.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll be happy.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Then Think and happy thoughts to tell yourself to be happy.
- 20:20Speaker 1: At the end of the day, smile.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You know, if you smile long enough, you will start to feel a bit of joy so.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I've been terrible for this, you know, particularly when you're stuck in a rut, where maybe you're in a job that you don't like and things you just feel like everything is against you, Whereas it's actually.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It's only your mindset that's against you, because you're I believe I'm massively now, and it wasn't always like this, but massively what you put in your mind grows.
- 20:46Speaker 1: So if you put negativity in there.
- 20:48Speaker 2: All you're going to get is negativity back and I struggle.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I personally struggle myself a bit now with people that have that negative mindset.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I can't be around it for long because it just drives me mad, miserable.
- 20:59Speaker 1: There's nothing to be happier to celebrate.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I tell you what you woke up this morning.
- 21:03Speaker 1: That is something to celebrate, because every day is a gift at the end of the day, because there are people that don't wake up Absolutely.
- 21:09Speaker 1: So you know.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Thank you, lucky Stars, that you are here and make the most of that time here.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And of course, I do believe that we've all.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Everybody has a purpose.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Everybody is here, will have a drive and a purpose to do something.
- 21:22Speaker 1: If you'd have said to me, bam, six years ago, you said, mark, what will make you happy?
- 21:25Speaker 1: I'd have said 10 million in a bank of Ferrari.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And imagine that what we're making me happy.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 21:31Speaker 1: I always say the same thing here now as well.
- 21:33Speaker 1: If there's anybody out there with that that wants to lend it to me for a couple of months, please do just so I can try it out.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You know what I mean, because maybe it is, but right here, right now, if you said it to me, it's having the time, freedom to be able to do the things that I want to do when I can do them, and it's spending time with the people that I love and the people that I love to be around.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That is what genuinely gets me in a good mood and makes me happy.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And all the other things in the trinkets yes, they could be great for for five minutes, but they're not what actually makes me happy, and I never understood that until I used to ask myself what is happiness?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Exactly the same thing that you're talking about there.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So few people actually take the time to find that out, don't they Absolutely.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So, yeah, yeah, and it is.
- 22:17Speaker 2: It's about sitting with that thought.
- 22:19Speaker 2: You know a lot of this mindset stuff.
- 22:21Speaker 2: It can be hard work in terms of and I don't mean what I mean by that is you have to put the timing, you have to put the timing and take and do the thought work to actually then be able to make the right decisions, to then get the clarity to be able to move forward.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So you know, it's not, it's about sitting down and read with a journal or whatever you use and and you know, just just really thinking about.
- 22:49Speaker 2: You know what makes you happy and where you want to go in life.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And and and you know I did an exercise with when I did the retreating in September.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I did an exercise.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I just gave everybody a blank piece of paper and asked them to create a vision board.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And some people had vision boards already and some didn't, and but they were drawing it.
- 23:10Speaker 2: They were just using a pen and paper from a blank piece of paper that they could draw whatever they wanted.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And you know, and whatever came to them and you know the the power of that exercise, people were saying the fact that it was just a pen and a paper and got the flow going through and to see that what people you know want and how they're actually achieving it.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And it isn't a thing that a lot of them are materialistic.
- 23:37Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's amazing everything.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I can't remember who said this, but everything, everything is created twice.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Sorry, it's a minute to think that everything is created twice once in your mind and once in reality.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Everything has been created twice.
- 23:58Speaker 2: So you know, get creating in your mind, get creating, get creating and really think.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Big Walt Disney said if you can dream it, you can do it.
- 24:07Speaker 2: And so get creating and go and get it done, go and get moving and get it done.
- 24:13Speaker 2: That's good advice.
- 24:16Speaker 1: No, I mean, it is excellent advice, and it is.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It's not something that you're going to work out and do, as you say then in five minutes.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I'm terrible for that, because I like to be on the move, I like to be there and everywhere you know if I can be out there doing it, I'll be out there doing it.
- 24:33Speaker 1: But I actually have given myself time in the morning now get up really, really early, and that's not by an alarm, that is actually by the alarm.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I set my mind up to try not to get up.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But I have just found the journaling, so I write down my goals every day.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Now people say to me well, that's the same goals every day.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 24:50Speaker 1: But I tell you what, near enough every week, if I go back and review those goals, I've tweaked it some way or I've thought of an easier way to get there or a better way to do something.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Why?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Because I'm constantly thinking about it and looking at it and letting my subconscious then go away and come up with new ideas the next day.
- 25:07Speaker 1: All right, mantra is about myself every day.
- 25:09Speaker 1: The man that I want to be, the husband that I want to be, the father I want to be the businessman that I want to be.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And again, some people have said to me that's quite egotistical at the end of the day, but it's not, it's generally.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yeah, if you read it you might think, well, he's a bit big headed, but it's not for you to read, it's for me to read.
- 25:25Speaker 1: It's for me to tell myself I am the person that I'm trying to become, and I am the nicest compliments I had not last year, year before from Lisa my wife was you know, you're a better husband, a better man now than you've ever been, or a nicer person, and I just thought, well, I'm doing something right then, aren't I?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Not that I was ever nasty, but yeah, that's a really nice compliment from somebody around you and I just think those little things because people say to me well, I tried journaling and it didn't work for me.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Listen, if you don't do it every day, just do it when you can do it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Start something, as you say take action, start doing something.
- 26:00Speaker 1: But start doing something that you're not doing now to try and help yourself moving forward.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And they always say Well, what's your journal about?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Just journal about anything.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Like you say it's Frank canvas, draw some pictures.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Maybe you're not writing.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't thought about, I'm going to do tomorrow, I'm going to do my Exactly.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And when you are journaling, start with I am, because I am the most too popular, most too powerful words, if you are, if you are doing affirmations or writing down what you want, you always say I am one, I have an eye.
- 26:29Speaker 2: You always write it in the present sense yeah, definitely.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So if somebody is starting now, so somebody is listening to this and thinking do you know what?
- 26:41Speaker 1: I need to pick up that journal tomorrow.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I need to get back on to it.
- 26:44Speaker 1: What would you say?
- 26:45Speaker 1: I mean, from a very basic start, just do this and get a habit of doing this, and it can take you a minute or so a day.
- 26:53Speaker 1: What would you say to them?
- 26:57Speaker 2: So if I can just explain about the law of attraction, just go.
- 27:02Speaker 2: It might seem like I'm going way off there, but if I can just talk about the law of attraction, the law of attraction is very much about setting a clear vision, asking for what you want, stepping into that as a feeling and then taking inspired action.
- 27:15Speaker 2: And the word inspired that's where you're receiving, that's where you're actually receiving.
- 27:20Speaker 2: You know information.
- 27:23Speaker 2: So when you're sitting and you can't hear, you can't hear if it's too noisy.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So this journaling time in the morning and this quiet time or whenever you want to do it is the time when you're actually receiving, when you're receiving those thoughts and those downloads, when you are, you know anything, any thoughts that come into your head in at that time.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Get them written down because they're the things that you know, they're the thoughts.
- 27:48Speaker 2: That that's the inspired action, that's the guidance for you to go and do something or listen to.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So what I do generally every morning and I I always start and think about successes, always think about yesterday's successes, always think about interesting things that might have happened yesterday.
- 28:07Speaker 2: I always ask questions of the universe.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I always ask questions particularly before I go to sleep, because you tend to get the answers during the night, and you know so, when I'm journaling, I'm normally reflecting on the really interesting things that I'm finding.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You know, some people might look for signs of you know that they're doing the right thing, and some people might look for butterflies or whatever.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I've picked something really random and I do keep seeing it, and so it's just that the quiet time in the morning is an opportunity for things to come to you.
- 28:44Speaker 2: We spend all day going, getting, but we need to give a little bit of time to actually receive, because that's what this is all about.
- 28:55Speaker 2: And the science behind the law of attraction, the science behind the law of vibration, you know, whatever you put out there, you get back, and so we have to give it time to work.
- 29:05Speaker 2: We have to listen.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It's no good to keep asking.
- 29:08Speaker 2: We have to listen and then, when we listen, we take the inspired action.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I love that.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I've always said I'm a massive believer in what goes around comes around as well, by putting out into the universe good vibes, by helping others.
- 29:22Speaker 1: You know that, in turn, in its own method, in no way comes back to tenfold, doesn't it?
- 29:27Speaker 1: And with opportunities, with certain things, and it's not instant, but it does, it does happen, it does and it's exciting.
- 29:34Speaker 2: And another reason for journaling is that I keep writing your goals down.
- 29:38Speaker 2: It just keeps them right in the forefront of your mind.
- 29:42Speaker 2: So I love John Aceraps.
- 29:43Speaker 2: When he was the invented, when he was very young, his mentor said to him are you interested or are you committed?
- 29:50Speaker 2: And I just love that.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Are you interested or are you committed?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Are you going to do whatever it takes to get to your goal, or is it just a?
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd love to do that, because there's a complete difference.
- 30:00Speaker 2: There's a real difference.
- 30:02Speaker 2: But with journaling, by keeping writing down your goals, you are you sort of keeping everything switched on so you can watch out for opportunities that come to you.
- 30:14Speaker 2: So it's like the day that you go and buy a red polo, for example, car you know, the day before you may never have seen any on the road, and the day you go and buy one, you see 10.
- 30:25Speaker 2: The same is happening with your goals.
- 30:27Speaker 2: If you're writing them down, that's where the opportunities you will see them.
- 30:31Speaker 2: The opportunities have always been there.
- 30:33Speaker 2: You've never seen them before because they weren't.
- 30:35Speaker 2: You know, your particular activating system filters is filtering out so much.
- 30:39Speaker 2: If you're really focusing on your goals, it's starting to filter stuff in and that's when you then start seeing the opportunities.
- 30:46Speaker 2: So yeah, it's really powerful, very, very powerful journal and just sitting there with your goals.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And that's it.
- 30:57Speaker 1: If you are trying to achieve something you're listening to this, you're trying to achieve something then just start putting these little things into practice.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Because people say to me there's no dealers in my area, mark or you know they're looking at getting into property and stuff.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It's just there are.
- 31:09Speaker 1: You're missing them.
- 31:10Speaker 1: You're missing, like you say.
- 31:12Speaker 1: You're not actively looking or subconsciously looking for the goals and the opportunities there so they can go straight past you.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And one of the questions I always ask anybody I work with in property is are you scared of getting a deal?
- 31:24Speaker 1: Because you may be excited to try and get a deal, but when it comes to push comes to shove, will you be scared, will you be holding yourself and will you self sabotage?
- 31:32Speaker 1: You won't even know you're doing it, but just start talking yourself out of doing what are potentially good deals that other people have got the confidence to be able to do.
- 31:40Speaker 2: So I love it, Absolutely love it.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I think it's so so powerful, because it is the difference between success and failure, isn't it it?
- 31:46Speaker 2: is it, is it absolutely is, yeah, yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 1: So I could talk to you all day on this subject, because I absolutely love it and I'm fascinated by everything that you said there, but I'd like to ask you a few questions, if you don't mind as well, just to dig deeper, and I'm interested in your answers because I think that'll be good.
- 32:03Speaker 1: That's all right with you, absolutely.
- 32:06Speaker 1: So what is the best advice you've been given?
- 32:13Speaker 2: Take one step, my goodness.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Start where you are and just take the first step.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I like that that's probably loads, but off the top of my head, that's good.
- 32:25Speaker 1: That's good.
- 32:25Speaker 1: That's good to me.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Thank you for one of those.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah, if you could sit down and have dinner with three people that are alive, who would you like to sit down and have dinner with?
- 32:34Speaker 2: Without question, Dally Parton would be number one.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness Oprah.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Nice.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Um and only one.
- 32:52Speaker 2: We can squeeze another one in if you want.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm struggling just to find one Um, let's say, elvis.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Okay, that'd be interested.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Table, I love it yeah.
- 33:06Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 33:07Speaker 1: So do you have, I think, a couple of questions.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Um, so, do you have a top three books that you'd recommend people?
- 33:18Speaker 1: No, it doesn't have to be property related.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It could be anything.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, um, so the secret would be a real good introduction to the law of attraction, love, that, the compound effect.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Um, that's all about taking that one step.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Uh, come you know, and I'm just whizzing into my audible here, um, and I'm just reading at the moment, the universe has your back by Gabby Bernstein.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Um, there are so many.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Yeah, those are the ones you recommend right now.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Uh, obviously Napoleon Hill.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Um, think and grow rich.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Yeah, just so many what I'm reading at the moment is psychosoabinetics.
- 34:06Speaker 1: That's quite good.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Excellent, that is really really good.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know how that one slipped past, but somebody recommended it the other day.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of it I already know, but some of it is really good.
- 34:16Speaker 2: 100% mindset again, isn't it yeah?
- 34:20Speaker 1: yeah, yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but it is really powerful.
- 34:24Speaker 1: It is, it is, and that's what it's all about.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So, uh, if you listen to podcasts, do you have three podcasts?
- 34:29Speaker 1: I don't have a frayed.
- 34:30Speaker 1: You don't even listen to mine, you're listening to this one.
- 34:36Speaker 2: What is my favourite?
- 34:38Speaker 1: I'll give you that, I'll give you that.
- 34:40Speaker 1: No problem there.
- 34:42Speaker 1: No problem there, I might edit that bit out now I think I'd like you to.
- 34:47Speaker 1: No, no, it's cool.
- 34:47Speaker 1: It's cool, you don't have to See.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I like audiobooks but sometimes I just like to listen to maybe a conversation or a chat or something on a podcast.
- 34:54Speaker 1: But I find actually myself that I flitter between different podcasts, so it's depending on the subject or what I'm interested in at the time.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'm actually just going to have a little listen to that.
- 35:05Speaker 2: I have to be honest, I always listen to Audible, always.
- 35:09Speaker 2: It's not that I just don't listen to podcasts Will stop, because I am just on Audible all the time.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I've got people who recommend books so often and literally I just have a list of things I want to get through and I've probably got about 10 open books on my phone that I've not even that my halfway through because another shiny penny comes up and I'll just go and start that one.
- 35:30Speaker 2: So I'm really sorry to have to admit I don't listen to podcasts because I'm too busy with Audible.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I'm not going to be fine.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Are you all good, or good?
- 35:40Speaker 2: In fact, you're listening to well now, aren't you?
- 35:42Speaker 2: It just came on then.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the future holds for Pam?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so well, I love coaching.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I can't tell you how much I love coaching.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I sit here and I think, oh, my goodness, I need to pinch myself that this is what I'm doing and I'm so rewarded by just talking to people I am doing.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Some want to.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Well, I do lots of one to one coaching with business owners in my local area, through B&I actually.
- 36:11Speaker 2: And then I have this I have a new Facebook group called Property Investors who Want To Implement.
- 36:18Speaker 2: This is for property investors who have a property goal, who might have invested in property knowledge but just haven't got to where they want to be.
- 36:26Speaker 2: And it's not the property side of it that's actually stopping them getting there, because I get about the economy and the interest rates and all those different practical blocks that might be stopping you buying right now.
- 36:40Speaker 2: But this is more for people where it's not the property that's causing the problem, it's everything else.
- 36:48Speaker 2: It's not being able to get there because we've got a job and the balance isn't right and we've got overwhelming limiting beliefs, and so I'm a success coach.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I'm not a property trainer, but I am, because what happened was I was finding that a lot of people, because of the networks that I'm in, will come into me for coaching, and they were property investors.
- 37:09Speaker 2: So one day I might be having a conversation about boundaries around clients at service accommodation and the next minute I might be talking about a private, a personal relationship with a family member, and so it's I coach the person and help them get to their goal.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Motivational speaking is something that I really do want to get more into.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I have done some and loved it and again it's just seen.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I just like to see the impact, the transformation in other people.
- 37:39Speaker 2: That is really rewarding, so, yeah, so group programs, one-to-one programs and motivational speaking in my future.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Absolutely amazing.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I love it.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I'll put a link to your group and everything in the description of this when it goes out.
- 37:55Speaker 1: If anyone wants to reach out to you to find out more about your success coaching.
- 38:00Speaker 1: What's the best way to do that?
- 38:02Speaker 2: So I have a website, PamShankacom.
- 38:03Speaker 2: All my ways of contacting me phone numbers, WhatsApp are on there.
- 38:10Speaker 2: So just get in touch and we can just have a conversation.
- 38:14Speaker 2: No obligation, it's just a chat to see how I can help.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Brilliant.
- 38:20Speaker 1: So make sure that you do reach out to Pam, have a chat, tell her that you listen to her on the property.
- 38:25Speaker 1: You're unleashed, and that will put a good smile on my face when she says thanks, mark, because what goes around comes around in life.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So we can help you, and the listeners can reach out to you and you can help them.
- 38:36Speaker 2: What goes around comes around, so it's all brilliant stuff, thank you, and from today I'm going to start listening to podcasts and make sure you're at the top of my list, thank you very much If you have to recommend a podcast on any other.
- 38:48Speaker 2: It will be yours.
- 38:50Speaker 1: There's only one I listen to property unleashed.
- 38:52Speaker 1: That's the one Absolutely Brilliant.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Well, once again, Pam, thank you ever so much for joining me here today.
- 38:59Speaker 1: It'd be great to get you back on in the future as well.
- 39:01Speaker 1: You know we can follow on with this conversation, see how things are going for you and things like that.
- 39:05Speaker 1: And of course, as I say, it's always a pleasure to catch up with you.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I'm a massive fan as well and I love what you're doing.
- 39:12Speaker 1: It's great to see a smile on your face, it's great to see that you've found your purpose, and I'm sure the listeners will be reaching out to you for a chat as well.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me, Mark.
- 39:21Speaker 2: It's really been a pleasure.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 39:23Speaker 1: No problem, no problem.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Pleasure is all mine.
- 39:25Speaker 1: So, as always, make sure you have your vision.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Make sure you know what it is you're going to be doing.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Make sure, then, that you can break that down into bite-sized goals, into tasks that you can take action on each and every day.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Make sure they're achievable tasks.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Start building up that winning formula, start pushing yourself forward and get out there and make it happen.
- 39:43Speaker 1: As Pam says, get out there, just put one foot in front of the other, and get out and make it happen.
- 39:48Speaker 1: So, thank you very much for joining me here today.
- 39:51Speaker 1: It's been great pleasure to have you.
- 39:53Speaker 1: If you've enjoyed this episode, please feel free to subscribe, to share it, to like it, send it to somebody who potentially needs to hear this message, and I look forward to you joining me very, very soon.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Take care and bye for now.
