- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart and today
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're joined by Randall Brody, Corinne, Nate John and Roman.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:23Speaker 2: meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 0:27Speaker 2: There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
- 0:29Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing for
- 0:33Speaker 2: the satura the week. This week we're looking at the
- 0:35Speaker 2: Shelby Index. For today's episode, she set a personal best
- 0:39Speaker 2: for a new Shelby Index record. Here's what we're gonna do.
- 0:43Speaker 2: If she wins today's show, We're gonna make it a
- 0:45Speaker 2: thousand dollars donation instead of five hundred dollars.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Did you clear that? With the power set.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Being no no, I just assume one of you is
- 0:53Speaker 2: going to beat her despite her high score. We'll get
- 0:55Speaker 2: to her score in a minute. Now, we have an ifaq.
- 0:58Speaker 2: If you have an ifaq, say it to Trivia at
- 1:01Speaker 2: the meadeater dot Com with the subject line I faq.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Sarah Sinco says, my local tavern has recently decided to
- 1:09Speaker 2: install a night of trivia, and I volunteered to host.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm wondering what tips or tricks you could suggest to
- 1:15Speaker 2: help make this event fun and successful for all. Randall,
- 1:19Speaker 2: you're a bar night, tavern going trivia connoisseur. Yes, what
- 1:24Speaker 2: advice could you give to Sarah be a great host?
- 1:28Speaker 4: I have three pieces of advice. Two of them have
- 1:30Speaker 4: thought of. The third one will come to me. Number
- 1:33Speaker 4: one is if there's a limit on the number of
- 1:35Speaker 4: people that consider at a table, and force it. Okay,
- 1:39Speaker 4: when there's ten people sitting at a table and then
- 1:41Speaker 4: every other table has three or four people, just be like, hey, guys,
- 1:45Speaker 4: you got to break if you're playing, you gotta break
- 1:47Speaker 4: up the group.
- 1:48Speaker 5: It's just it just it's a no brainer.
- 1:51Speaker 4: What are they gonna say, Oh no, we want to
- 1:54Speaker 4: have more people than as low. Number two is, it's
- 1:58Speaker 4: not all about you played some bark trivia games where
- 2:02Speaker 4: the guys treating it like a like a one man show.
- 2:05Speaker 5: An open mic, and it's like, did.
- 2:07Speaker 4: You practice all these one liners on your parents before
- 2:10Speaker 4: you left home tonight?
- 2:12Speaker 6: You know?
- 2:13Speaker 5: And I like to just say, keep it about the game.
- 2:16Speaker 4: It's fun to have a couple of cracks here and there,
- 2:18Speaker 4: but otherwise, you know, just just play the game straight
- 2:22Speaker 4: like people are there for the questions.
- 2:24Speaker 3: How important are drink specials?
- 2:27Speaker 6: Very important?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I doubt Sarah has that kind of power.
- 2:31Speaker 6: She can do.
- 2:32Speaker 4: There was a before before it was the Thomas Marbar
- 2:36Speaker 4: and Missoula. They used to have a trivia night there
- 2:40Speaker 4: and it was like eight dollars pictures of flat tire.
- 2:44Speaker 5: To the point that I cannot.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Flat tire or fat time, fat fat tire.
- 2:49Speaker 4: This boat's poorly for today's performance, like a swim or
- 2:52Speaker 4: fat tire. I can't smell the stuff anymore without getting sick.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I mean, just like six years of every two day
- 3:00Speaker 4: night drinking fat tire until what a funny promotion? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 4: it was odd. It's not like a very I just
- 3:08Speaker 4: feel like that's a weird beer to.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Drink in large volumes. Yeah. My third point about trivia is.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Just see if they can start it early.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Don't start trivia at eight.
- 3:19Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the that's a one thing against the molly
- 3:21Speaker 7: here in town.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean it's great trivia.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I like the questions, but it'd be great if you
- 3:26Speaker 4: could get the thing going at at seven six thirty
- 3:29Speaker 4: even I feel like there's I feel like most people
- 3:32Speaker 4: are just going to go there from work instead of
- 3:35Speaker 4: going home. There's no reason to start trivia at eight
- 3:37Speaker 4: o'clock unless you're doing two games.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Fill any advice for Sarah You love bar trivia?
- 3:42Speaker 7: Yeah, this is kind of a follow up to Randall's
- 3:44Speaker 7: like it's not about you comment. But at the same time,
- 3:47Speaker 7: I do think you need to kind of present an
- 3:48Speaker 7: air of confidence, like you need to need to make
- 3:51Speaker 7: the players believe that they're they're at a they're on
- 3:54Speaker 7: a steady ship and that and that the captain is
- 3:57Speaker 7: is is trustworthy because once once holes start being poked,
- 4:01Speaker 7: the whole thing could fall apart.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I also want to tip my hat to Sarah and
- 4:05Speaker 4: to the bar that is initiating this. There's there's not
- 4:09Speaker 4: enough good trivia out there in the world, and kudos
- 4:13Speaker 4: for stepping up.
- 4:14Speaker 2: We don't know the name of the place, she says,
- 4:16Speaker 2: local tavern. Any other advice for Sarah.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I got one. I would say, make the questions
- 4:21Speaker 6: easier than you think you need.
- 4:22Speaker 5: To make them.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's exactly what I was going to say to Sarah.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think it's important, Sarah that you have someone to
- 4:27Speaker 2: test these on, Like I have the Shelby index and
- 4:30Speaker 2: that is effective to an extent. But yeah, assume that
- 4:34Speaker 2: your audience needs they'll have more fun if the questions
- 4:38Speaker 2: tend to be easier than harder.
- 4:40Speaker 3: You could send them a night testomon.
- 4:42Speaker 4: There you go, And I had one more point just
- 4:45Speaker 4: on the format. There are some bar trivia games where
- 4:50Speaker 4: you write your ten answers for the round on a
- 4:52Speaker 4: single sheet of paper and take it up after it.
- 4:54Speaker 4: There's some bar trivia games where they have you write
- 4:57Speaker 4: an answer on a single piece of paper and run
- 4:59Speaker 4: it up after every question.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Don't do that.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Oh, you don't like that one.
- 5:02Speaker 5: There's too much standing up and sitting down. That's not
- 5:05Speaker 5: what we came for.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And then it's like someone got somebody. Yeah, someone who
- 5:11Speaker 4: has the chair on that corner gets stuck just getting up,
- 5:14Speaker 4: and you're gonna miss all the funny banter.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 5: So those are just my thoughts.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Okay, Spencer, If I may good advice for Sarah, oh
- 5:22Speaker 2: I may I have a quick announcements.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Please, Hello Meat Eater Trivia listeners.
- 5:27Speaker 4: On Friday, March thirteenth, an episode of Trivia was recorded
- 5:30Speaker 4: in which I said several things I later regretted they
- 5:33Speaker 4: are as.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Follows, Oh this is from you.
- 5:36Speaker 5: I don't care. Terrible question. Hey Maggie, look at the scoreboard.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I don't care, don't be as smart ass Spencer, and
- 5:46Speaker 4: I don't want to be here anymore. I'd just like
- 5:49Speaker 4: to apologize for the listeners for all that negativity and
- 5:51Speaker 4: borish behavior. There's too much of it in the world,
- 5:53Speaker 4: and I regret my partner contributing to that. I do
- 5:55Speaker 4: stand by my critique of the question about revolvers and
- 5:58Speaker 4: about the California gold Rush, and I wish I'd remembered
- 6:00Speaker 4: to mention the film norbit when we were discussing Eddie
- 6:02Speaker 4: Murphy films.
- 6:03Speaker 2: That's all okay, thank you. That will satisfy some folks.
- 6:07Speaker 6: We need more of that in this world.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, good, good. Addition, we have a little bit of housekeeping.
- 6:12Speaker 2: This is geography related housekeeping. On a previous episode of Trivia,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I said in the flavor text that Harvard University's Arborreedam
- 6:21Speaker 2: is located in Connecticut. But of course that's wrong. It's
- 6:24Speaker 2: located in Boston, Massachusetts, a full fifty miles from the
- 6:27Speaker 2: Connecticut border. And in a different episode, Randall said he
- 6:30Speaker 2: didn't think they had minards in Ohio, but that's wrong.
- 6:33Speaker 2: There are thirty two minards in Ohio. Phil has a
- 6:36Speaker 2: store map for us randall lits as though they've built
- 6:38Speaker 2: minards on top of minards.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess my question is when did they move
- 6:43Speaker 4: into Ohio?
- 6:44Speaker 2: You think in the last month.
- 6:46Speaker 6: No, but.
- 6:48Speaker 4: I haven't lived in Ohio for twenty years, more than
- 6:52Speaker 4: twenty years, so I think that's fair.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Okay, that's part of your culture.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Minard shout up to Loveland, right on the Little Miami
- 6:59Speaker 4: River out to Loveland.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You need to go back there and do a little
- 7:01Speaker 3: tree stand hunting with Kenyon or someone.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Oh, I'd love to do that. I'd love to do that.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I'd like to just make a whole series where I
- 7:07Speaker 4: just live in Ohio and do all of my favorite things.
- 7:10Speaker 5: All rights.
- 7:12Speaker 2: The Shelby index for today is a six point six seven,
- 7:16Speaker 2: So I'm putting us on perfect say that again, six
- 7:20Speaker 2: point six and seven. First time spend two thirds of
- 7:24Speaker 2: a point, She got two thirds of a question. The
- 7:26Speaker 2: winner should get uh well, so I'm putting us on
- 7:32Speaker 2: perfect score Alard again. If nobody beats Shelby today, if
- 7:35Speaker 2: nobody gets a seven, it's going to be one thousand
- 7:37Speaker 2: dollars donation. Are we gonna get like scores and like thirds?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Today Randall had seven and a.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Third exclusively for the Shelby Index.
- 7:46Speaker 5: That's that's it. I like it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And with that we're out of the game of trivia.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I played the drag post. I need to know what
- 7:55Speaker 2: I shoul stay to win.
- 7:56Speaker 5: Everything, saying, here's tend to win everything.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Game on suckers.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Question one, you're gonna join us? Are you gonna keep
- 8:12Speaker 3: typing on that phone?
- 8:15Speaker 2: Turtle?
- 8:16Speaker 5: Turtle?
- 8:18Speaker 3: Question one?
- 8:18Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. This first great question is via
- 8:21Speaker 2: Chris Porter, and as always, this will be multiple choice.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation? Is it
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yellowstone River, Niobrera River, Tennessee River, or Columbia River?
- 8:37Speaker 6: I hate you, Chris.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation, Chris Porter?
- 8:43Speaker 2: This is Chris Porter, Yellowstone, Niabrera, Tennessee, Columbia.
- 8:50Speaker 5: If it's the Chris Porter I'm thinking of, that's a
- 8:51Speaker 5: good guy.
- 8:52Speaker 7: If we don't know what states a certain river.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Runs through, I'm not going to help you with that one.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation Yellowstone, Niabrera, Tennessee, Colombia,
- 9:12Speaker 2: m No, no confidence, zero room, Brody. Do you have
- 9:19Speaker 2: a nailed narrowed down to a.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Few Yeah, OK, I'm just gonna stick with you.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Which it should be elevation? The Yellowstone River, Niabrera River,
- 9:32Speaker 2: Tennessee River, or Columbia.
- 9:35Speaker 8: What it not?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Should everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? Nate
- 9:40Speaker 2: says Colombia, Roman Colombia, Randall Yellowstone, John Colombia, Corinne, Colombia, Brody, Yellowstone.
- 9:50Speaker 2: The correct answer is the Yellowstone River or Brody and
- 9:55Speaker 2: Randall got that one right. The highest point of the
- 9:58Speaker 2: Tennessee River is eight hundred feet, the Columbia is two
- 10:01Speaker 2: thousand and seven hundred feet, of the Niabrera is five thousand,
- 10:05Speaker 2: five hundred feet, and of the Yellowstone is eleven thousand feet.
- 10:09Speaker 2: The Yellowstone is formed near Yout's Peak in northwest Wyoming,
- 10:13Speaker 2: where small streams combined to make the longest undamned river
- 10:16Speaker 2: in the lower forty eight.
- 10:17Speaker 9: If you want to like bad ass back country trip,
- 10:22Speaker 9: like go into the thoroughfare in the headwaters of the Yellowstone,
- 10:26Speaker 9: bring bear spray.
- 10:27Speaker 2: It would look very unfamiliar.
- 10:29Speaker 9: It's super cool country in there.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Eleven thousand feet. That's twice steven high.
- 10:35Speaker 5: He's just giving us two middle fingers.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Twice as high as the next closest of the Niabrera River.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Question two, the topic is wildlife. Stanley and Zero learned
- 10:47Speaker 2: that eating onions will prevent the highly venomous yellow spotted
- 10:51Speaker 2: lizard from biting them in this two thousand and three movie.
- 10:57Speaker 6: We're Back, Nate with.
- 10:58Speaker 2: A quick answer. Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions
- 11:03Speaker 2: will prevent the highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting
- 11:07Speaker 2: them in this two thousand and three movies Millennial Chree.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Think this is This is the first movie that's like squarely.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Is this an adult destroys children?
- 11:21Speaker 5: Or for people that are like to know it's got
- 11:23Speaker 5: a next?
- 11:24Speaker 6: No hints, John, what's going on? Man struggling this star?
- 11:31Speaker 4: John was born in two thousand and one.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Close enough?
- 11:36Speaker 5: That's pretty good.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Gosh, so much Roman? Do you have this one? Right?
- 11:41Speaker 6: I do? I'm so excited. Okay, I never felt so good.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions will prevent the
- 11:47Speaker 2: highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting them in this
- 11:51Speaker 2: two thousand and three movie, Phil We're gonna get a
- 11:53Speaker 2: movie review from you.
- 11:55Speaker 3: This movie live action or animated?
- 11:58Speaker 5: No hints, not giving you any hints.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Close the gap, Baby, We're back.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Robin, Randall, and Brody the only players to get questioned
- 12:08Speaker 2: one right, and they have blank whiteboards. For question two,
- 12:13Speaker 2: Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions will prevent the
- 12:17Speaker 2: highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting them in this
- 12:21Speaker 2: two thousand and three movie. Randall, do you like your answer?
- 12:25Speaker 5: I've never seen my answer?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Okay?
- 12:28Speaker 5: It involves animals?
- 12:30Speaker 2: And do you think that Nate and Roman would have
- 12:33Speaker 2: seen this movie and liked this movie?
- 12:35Speaker 5: My guess?
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah, which is the energy they're giving off?
- 12:39Speaker 5: Maybe? Okay, I don't know.
- 12:41Speaker 2: John, do you have a guess? No?
- 12:43Speaker 10: I got nothing?
- 12:44Speaker 2: All right, Brody? Do you like your answer?
- 12:47Speaker 3: I don't have an answer, so no, I had to
- 12:49Speaker 3: test my answer.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Does everybody give up? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Nate and Roman say, holes, Randall mad a gascar, John
- 12:58Speaker 2: without an answer? Without an answer, Brody without an answer?
- 13:01Speaker 2: The correct answer is holes h O L E S.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Is that?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Like?
- 13:06Speaker 6: Yeah? It's a great book.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Based on a book for I don't know, like teenage
- 13:13Speaker 2: grade middle schoolers.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I remember this movie.
- 13:16Speaker 9: Now, I never saw it, but in that troublemaker actor
- 13:20Speaker 9: who's a real child maker, Now.
- 13:22Speaker 7: That was a pre mental break.
- 13:24Speaker 6: They survive off splosh exactly.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Although the yellow spotted lizard is real, the movie uses
- 13:30Speaker 2: bearded dragons to portray them. The real yellow spotted lizard
- 13:34Speaker 2: is frown, is found from Texas to Panama and does
- 13:37Speaker 2: have a venomous bite, but it's far less toxic than
- 13:40Speaker 2: the movie describes. According to holes Lower, the lizard has
- 13:44Speaker 2: exactly eleven spots, but by the time you get close
- 13:46Speaker 2: enough to count them, you'll already be dead. Of course,
- 13:50Speaker 2: they hate the taste of quote onion blood. Phil Did
- 13:53Speaker 2: you love the movie Holes?
- 13:55Speaker 7: I love the book and the movie I think is
- 13:57Speaker 7: a great adaptation. It's got an awesome cast to Ornie Weaver,
- 14:00Speaker 7: Tim Blake Nelson who kicks ass of John Voight, Henry Winkler,
- 14:05Speaker 7: Yeah it's Henry. He plays the dad.
- 14:08Speaker 5: What what's the author?
- 14:10Speaker 7: Louis Sachar, who wrote a bunch of kid books.
- 14:13Speaker 2: There had an iconic cover as well. I think you've
- 14:16Speaker 2: seen it, you know, Nate Roman. Did you guys love Holes?
- 14:21Speaker 5: Oh?
- 14:21Speaker 6: Yeah, dude, that's like right up there with the hardy boys.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That's that's in the same like tier of like if
- 14:28Speaker 2: you're a twelve year old boy, you read Hatchet and Holes,
- 14:32Speaker 2: those hatch books.
- 14:33Speaker 9: That's back when Nate used to drug as he does
- 14:36Speaker 9: right now, like draw guns on pieces of paper.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Like Sky's fighting each other on mountains and stuff. Stanley's
- 14:44Speaker 6: last name is Yell Nats, which is what backwards Randall Stanley?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Sorry, wow, question three.
- 14:52Speaker 6: This feels good when you know a whole bunch of
- 14:53Speaker 6: stuff that Randall and Brody don't know.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Coology, that's your movie club on Holes, that's your movie club.
- 15:03Speaker 2: This next great question, Adam.
- 15:06Speaker 7: Sorry, I've got.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I've got one more thing than got.
- 15:08Speaker 7: The movie's great because it's like a last vestige of
- 15:11Speaker 7: when they used to wrap through the plot of the
- 15:14Speaker 7: movie during the credits, doesn't Shila, oh dig it? Yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 7: If you want to hear a recap you just watched
- 15:24Speaker 7: question three.
- 15:25Speaker 2: The topic is ecology and this next great question is
- 15:29Speaker 2: via Adam Leister. Also known as the Bush, this region
- 15:34Speaker 2: of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's famous for
- 15:39Speaker 2: its deserts, savannahs, and shrublands. Also known as the Bush,
- 15:47Speaker 2: this region of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's
- 15:51Speaker 2: famous for its deserts, savannahs and shrublands. Gran you have
- 15:57Speaker 2: this one right, yes, Randall, you have this one right boy?
- 16:00Speaker 5: Hope?
- 16:00Speaker 2: So okay, why am I drawn?
- 16:02Speaker 4: After not knowing about the movie Holes, I find myself,
- 16:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You must have just been slightly too old. In two
- 16:09Speaker 2: thousand and three.
- 16:10Speaker 5: To Yeah two thousand and three, Yeah yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Rick Fox plays a character named Clyde's sweet Feet.
- 16:20Speaker 2: That's right in Randall's sweet spot, Rick Fox fil that's
- 16:23Speaker 2: a good guy, also known as the Bush. This region
- 16:27Speaker 2: of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's famous for
- 16:31Speaker 2: its deserts, savannahs and shrublands. Brodie, do you have this
- 16:35Speaker 2: one right now?
- 16:36Speaker 3: I think I do now?
- 16:37Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 16:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 7: First Light.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Oh it's nice, lightweight, love it.
- 16:44Speaker 10: It's new heather gray colors.
- 16:51Speaker 9: Uh.
- 16:51Speaker 10: It's also going to be available in black.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Oh.
- 16:54Speaker 2: What's been hot at the store lately? John? What are
- 16:56Speaker 2: people buying up there?
- 16:59Speaker 10: Not bare? No, I'm still working on that.
- 17:03Speaker 11: But a lot of turkey stuff has been becoming popular
- 17:06Speaker 11: Turkey seasons less than a month out, so First Light
- 17:09Speaker 11: Turkey vests have been a very hot sellar so far.
- 17:13Speaker 11: The Approach hoodie, which was a twenty twenty five First
- 17:16Speaker 11: Light product. Think of it as like a wick hoodie,
- 17:18Speaker 11: but with an integrated face mask.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 11: All the turkey stuff phelps easy cluck or diaphragm. That
- 17:25Speaker 11: one goes out the door pretty quickly. So if you're
- 17:28Speaker 11: in Bozeman, feel free to stop by a store get
- 17:30Speaker 11: stocked up for turkey sea.
- 17:33Speaker 7: You're in good hands store online.
- 17:37Speaker 9: As far as social media videos go, like the crew
- 17:40Speaker 9: at the Bozeman med Eater store, Man, they like knock
- 17:43Speaker 9: it out.
- 17:43Speaker 5: How's the morale doing. How's the morale doing at the store?
- 17:46Speaker 10: Morale Yeah, couldn't be higher.
- 17:48Speaker 6: That's why we go there.
- 17:51Speaker 2: That's good one more time. Also known as the Bush,
- 17:54Speaker 2: this region of Australia refers to the continent interior that's
- 17:57Speaker 2: famous for its desert savannahs and bins. Go ahead and

- 18:13Speaker 7: I thought you were going for a.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Come on, there's a chain of restaurants named after it.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Although about seventy five percent of Australia is considered the outback,
- 18:24Speaker 2: only about five percent of the Continence population lives there.
- 18:28Speaker 2: The area is known for its mar like, mars like appearance,

- 18:43Speaker 2: for sheep.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Herders that looks like the DMZ Dude.
- 18:46Speaker 2: There is a map of that dingo fence.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Why didn't they just do a straight line?
- 18:50Speaker 3: And it's seriously like there's not dingos on the other side.
- 18:53Speaker 2: They say there are some holes in it, and there's
- 18:56Speaker 2: certainly some dingos that have made it through, but for
- 18:58Speaker 2: the most part it does its job. Phil has a photo,
- 19:02Speaker 2: an aerial photo of the Dingo fence as well.
- 19:05Speaker 6: How is that compared to the length of the Great Wall?
- 19:07Speaker 2: I don't know. This is the longest fence though, three
- 19:09Speaker 2: thy five hundred miles long. How long is the Great
- 19:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:13Speaker 4: I just know I watched a video the other day
- 19:15Speaker 4: of Anthony Edwards on the Great Wall, and he said
- 19:19Speaker 4: that ship's deep. Okay, that's the only great wall fact.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Question four the topic is hunting. This next great question
- 19:27Speaker 4: is via Lauren Hope.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Leon Leonwood created this type of boot in nineteen twelve
- 19:33Speaker 2: by combining a leather upper with a rubber lower shell.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Not looking for the brand, we are looking for what
- 19:43Speaker 2: that type of boot is called? Leon Leonwood created this
- 19:47Speaker 2: type of boot in nineteen twelve by combining a leather
- 19:50Speaker 2: upper with a rubber lower shell.

- 20:05Speaker 7: I do not?
- 20:06Speaker 2: Okay, do you Brody?
- 20:08Speaker 7: I do?
- 20:09Speaker 5: John?
- 20:09Speaker 2: Do you have this type of boot?

- 20:16Speaker 2: Randall, you have this one right?
- 20:18Speaker 3: I do?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Do you own this boot?
- 20:20Speaker 5: I own a pair of these boots that I won
- 20:23Speaker 5: from Schnee.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Okay, that's not it's not a.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Going to say whatever.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Sorry, I don't think I have this right now?
- 20:36Speaker 2: Do you have them over?

- 20:41Speaker 2: Now looking for the break.
- 20:42Speaker 6: That's why I feel good about mine.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Leon Leonwood created this type of boot in nineteen twelve.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Is that his real name?
- 20:48Speaker 2: Like finding a leather.

- 21:33Speaker 2: Spencer ll Being designed the duck boot.
- 21:37Speaker 5: To survive hunting season in Maine.
- 21:40Speaker 2: His idea was to combine the comfort of a leather
- 21:43Speaker 2: boot with the durability of a rubber boot, but the
- 21:46Speaker 2: concept nearly didn't make it off the ground. After ninety
- 21:49Speaker 2: of the first one hundred pairs were returned, customers found
- 21:52Speaker 2: that the single stitch easily tore, which got Leon to
- 21:56Speaker 2: instead go with a triple stitch that is still used today.
- 21:59Speaker 6: Flavor text, Well, I they're kind of dead to me

- 28:48Speaker 6: Now? That sounds good?
- 28:49Speaker 2: Question seven topic is wildlife. This next great question is
- 28:53Speaker 2: via Sammy Stone. Marmotts were given the nickname blank Pig
- 28:59Speaker 2: because of their squeal that's used to signal danger. I
- 29:03Speaker 2: don't know, okay, Nate the guy that you're competing with.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Brody seems to not this one. Marmots were given the

- 29:11Speaker 6: You know is I can put put point one out
- 29:14Speaker 6: because I think I saw one in Korea once.

- 29:41Speaker 6: and crap. Like I got all my setup for my twelve.
- 29:43Speaker 6: We'll talk about this offline. They don't want to hear
- 29:45Speaker 6: about my shotgun setups.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Know it works? Real good slug.
- 29:48Speaker 5: You're distracting.
- 29:50Speaker 2: You're distracting Nate from coming up with an answer. Marmots
- 29:53Speaker 2: were given the nickname Blake Pig because of their squeal
- 29:57Speaker 2: that's used to signal danger. John, Do you have this
- 30:02Speaker 2: one right?
- 30:03Speaker 10: I think so.
- 30:04Speaker 11: I've heard this before, more or less for groundhogs rather
- 30:08Speaker 11: than marmots, but.
- 30:12Speaker 7: He's getting mad.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Randall, do you like your answer? I do, okay, Randall,
- 30:17Speaker 2: Brody very confident, John a little confident Roman, Karin, do
- 30:22Speaker 2: you have an answer? Marmots were given the nickname blank
- 30:25Speaker 2: pig because of their squeal that's used to signal danger.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says, thunder pig.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Roman says, screaming pig. Randal whistle, John whistle, screaming pig.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Brody whistle pig. The correct answer is whistle Pig, which
- 30:47Speaker 2: is a restaurant.
- 30:51Speaker 5: If you walk out of the adult store in downtown.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Both mean to take a last get to the meat eater.
- 30:58Speaker 4: If you walk out of the adult store and you
- 30:59Speaker 4: turn to the right, you'll go to whistle Pick.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll see they have a marmot.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Always wanted to explain where the.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Groundhogs have different whistles for different predators. Biologists say they've
- 31:14Speaker 2: heard unique chirps to signal the presence of eagles, coyotes, bears, humans,
- 31:18Speaker 2: and more. Here is what they sound like.
- 31:26Speaker 5: That's very cute.
- 31:29Speaker 8: They're good whistlers. I think Brodie's impatient.
- 31:41Speaker 2: No, no, not that is a whistle.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Well, stressed.
- 31:46Speaker 2: They also call the rock chucks rock chucks woodchucks.
- 31:51Speaker 6: That's what that is.
- 31:52Speaker 2: It's the same thing.
- 31:53Speaker 3: There's a there's a long range shooting contingent.
- 31:56Speaker 4: That likes to oh yeah, big big rock chuck shooting.
- 32:01Speaker 2: There's a spot in Utah that I've driven through multiple
- 32:03Speaker 2: times on the interstate where there's a stretch of road
- 32:06Speaker 2: where you see like five or ten of these things
- 32:08Speaker 2: every time. It's it's crazy. I've never seen so many
- 32:12Speaker 2: woodchucks or rock chucks in one spot. Question eight. The
- 32:14Speaker 2: topic is conservation. The source and blank dynamic describes how
- 32:20Speaker 2: different habitats create population growth or decline for organisms, and
- 32:26Speaker 2: the room is stumped. The source and blank dynamic describes
- 32:33Speaker 2: how different habitats create population growth or decline for organisms.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Do you have this one right, Randall?
- 32:45Speaker 5: I have a guess.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I guess the.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Guess that I like, did Shelby get is this where
- 32:51Speaker 4: Shelby got her point six to six from?
- 32:53Speaker 2: Uh No that was on the TSS, which I think
- 32:55Speaker 2: she said TPS or something like that. Ah. So I'm
- 32:58Speaker 2: a good husband, so I gave for the point six.
- 33:02Speaker 9: I've had a lot of time to really decorate your
- 33:05Speaker 9: board nicely in this round of trivia.
- 33:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I come here to learn, not to play.
- 33:11Speaker 2: The source and blank dynamic describes how different habitats create
- 33:16Speaker 2: population growth or decline for organisms. Brodie, do you have
- 33:19Speaker 2: this one right?
- 33:20Speaker 9: I have what seems like could be a good answer.
- 33:23Speaker 9: But I did not know this the answer to this thing.
- 33:27Speaker 2: This is one of those questions that I feel like
- 33:29Speaker 2: a seventh grade science class kid a better chance than.
- 33:34Speaker 6: You, guys.
- 33:35Speaker 5: I don't think I've ever heard of this.
- 33:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm not like the seventh grade science thing. They
- 33:39Speaker 9: weren't teaching this when I was in seventh.
- 33:41Speaker 2: The source and blank dynamic describes how different habitats create
- 33:45Speaker 2: population growth or decline for organisms.
- 33:51Speaker 7: This seems like a play on words.
- 33:52Speaker 6: If I can help my.
- 33:54Speaker 2: There's a lot of source and blank. Is everybody ready?
- 34:03Speaker 6: No? No, I'm changing it.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Nate just got a hint.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Yeah, change Roman doesn't know it, doesn't know. He doesn't.
- 34:13Speaker 6: If I get it because of that hint, I will
- 34:15Speaker 6: be I will kiss.
- 34:16Speaker 2: You on t s SHL and Roman a little smooch.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says resource, Roman
- 34:30Speaker 2: says supply randall space, John capacity Colinn without an answer,
- 34:35Speaker 2: Rody says resource. The correct answer, which Nate crossed out,
- 34:39Speaker 2: is sink. The source and sink dynamic the source and
- 34:47Speaker 2: sink dynamic. The source and sink model shows how populations
- 34:53Speaker 2: change across adjacent habitats. At the source habitat, you have
- 34:57Speaker 2: growing populations. At the sink habitat, you have declining populations.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Here's an example. On one side of a fence, you
- 35:03Speaker 2: have a state park with a lush forest that doesn't
- 35:06Speaker 2: allow any hunting. This is the source population for white tails.
- 35:09Speaker 2: And on the other side of the fence is a
- 35:11Speaker 2: beanfield with tree stands and tower blinds. This would be
- 35:14Speaker 2: the sink population for deer. Source and sink dynamics like
- 35:18Speaker 2: this factory into game management across state lines and unit boundaries.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I'm very disappointed. I've never heard of that.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Source and sink. We have one neighbor in my little
- 35:29Speaker 2: area who is the source population of voles because he
- 35:33Speaker 2: has a very trashy yard, and then the rest of
- 35:35Speaker 2: us are the sink where the.
- 35:37Speaker 9: Trashy yard is just natural. Um, it doesn't be the
- 35:41Speaker 9: standards for your neighborhood.
- 35:43Speaker 2: It's just a lack of grooming around some of his
- 35:45Speaker 2: little buildings and.
- 35:46Speaker 3: That association getting after him.
- 35:48Speaker 2: No, No, it's all behind a fence.
- 35:50Speaker 5: It's not that bad.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I was the source of the vole population for a while.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Many source and sink. All right, Phil, we have two
- 35:58Speaker 2: questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 36:02Speaker 7: Two questions remaining. It's a fairly tight game for three players.
- 36:07Speaker 7: John Curran and Roman are no longer in the running,
- 36:09Speaker 7: but Nate and Randall have five points and Brody is
- 36:14Speaker 7: one point ahead with six in first place.
- 36:16Speaker 2: With two questions to go. Question nine the topic is gear.
- 36:20Speaker 2: This Seattle based outdoor store with the word co op
- 36:24Speaker 2: in their logo is America's largest consumer co op.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Oh, I've been spending a lot of money there.
- 36:32Speaker 6: What have you been buying there? Brody?
- 36:34Speaker 3: No, I'll talk about I don't want to get I'm
- 36:36Speaker 3: like kind of a hint, kind of hint.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Seattle based outdoor stupid. That was a stupid thing to
- 36:41Speaker 2: say the word co op in their logo is America's
- 36:45Speaker 2: largest consumer co op.
- 36:46Speaker 3: But I feel like you, like, how could you not know?
- 36:48Speaker 2: This could have a one hundred percent in the room here?
- 36:53Speaker 2: What are some other source and sinks, like like the
- 36:55Speaker 2: bison ding of the dingo fence.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Well, that was the first one that came to mind.
- 37:00Speaker 2: It would be good to be a sink. They'd have
- 37:01Speaker 2: to get to the other side.
- 37:02Speaker 5: And yeah, I figure there's a couple you'd be like.
- 37:07Speaker 2: The source would be the park. The sink would be
- 37:09Speaker 2: if they wander out of the park and get killed
- 37:10Speaker 2: by a tribal member or a Montana tag holder. This
- 37:15Speaker 2: Seattle based outdoor store with the word co Op in
- 37:18Speaker 2: their logo is America's largest consumer co op.
- 37:22Speaker 6: I had a neighbor grown up who had like a
- 37:24Speaker 6: vendetta out for holes. In his process, he'd taped down
- 37:27Speaker 6: all the mole holes and then come back like twenty
- 37:30Speaker 6: minutes later and see which ones had opened back up
- 37:33Speaker 6: that they'd run through, and then he'd tamp them down again.
- 37:35Speaker 6: And he'd sit out there with a with a spade
- 37:37Speaker 6: and wait to see the little trail and commitment and
- 37:40Speaker 6: hit a great yard. Oh.
- 37:42Speaker 9: I used to work on golf course many years ago,
- 37:44Speaker 9: and we used to get a bounty for.
- 37:48Speaker 6: What was a bounty.
- 37:49Speaker 3: It was like five bucks.
- 37:50Speaker 6: That's a good ude green or a tea.
- 37:53Speaker 3: They can really do a lot. So we used to
- 37:55Speaker 3: just stomp them when we saw him.
- 37:58Speaker 2: That was it every ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 38:04Speaker 2: We have Nate and Roman and Randall and John and
- 38:08Speaker 2: Corin and Brody. The whole room, says ARII. The whole
- 38:10Speaker 2: room got that correct. It's ore EI. As a consumer
- 38:15Speaker 2: co op, ARII says their business is run by the
- 38:18Speaker 2: customers who use it instead of external shareholders. This has
- 38:21Speaker 2: been part of their identity since ari I was founded
- 38:24Speaker 2: in nineteen thirty eight. There are twenty five million co
- 38:26Speaker 2: op members, with one of the unique benefits being that
- 38:29Speaker 2: you get to vote in their annual election for the
- 38:32Speaker 2: board of directors. Huh, question ten, Before we do question ten,
- 38:36Speaker 2: we will get another scoreboard update before phil.
- 38:39Speaker 7: The song remains the same since that was one hund
- 38:42Speaker 7: Brody as seven, Randall and Nate have six.
- 38:46Speaker 9: Question ten the topic wait, aren't you doing a roundup
- 38:48Speaker 9: of correct answers?
- 38:49Speaker 5: Oh? You good?
- 38:50Speaker 2: Thank you? I wasn't going to just saved me from
- 38:55Speaker 2: a conservation donation. Number one was Yellowstone River. Number two
- 39:00Speaker 2: is the movie Holes. Three the outback four? Uh, that
- 39:04Speaker 2: is the duck boot, the bean boot or the main
- 39:07Speaker 2: hunting shoe. Five was Rockabye Baby, Six was t S S.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Seven is whistle pig, eight was the sink, and nine
- 39:17Speaker 2: was ri e I.
- 39:18Speaker 5: Who's question ten?
- 39:19Speaker 2: The topic is cooking. P e I muscles are named
- 39:24Speaker 2: after this island that's found in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Brody gets this one right. He's writing his ants around Hepencer.
- 39:37Speaker 6: This is just a fishing question. P e I.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Muscles are named after this island that's found in the
- 39:43Speaker 2: Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
- 39:45Speaker 6: Did you do this on purpose?
- 39:47Speaker 3: Muscles? Randall?
- 39:49Speaker 6: Uh?
- 39:49Speaker 5: Yes, God, I love those things.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Uh what do you got, Randall?
- 39:54Speaker 5: I'm just looking at uh pack boots. Yeah, pack boots
- 39:58Speaker 5: versus boots? What do you I mean?
- 40:00Speaker 4: It does say Leon Leon wood being invented the precursor
- 40:05Speaker 4: to modern pack boots none as the main hunting shoe
- 40:07Speaker 4: in nineteen eleven.
- 40:09Speaker 5: The difference is that a.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Pack boot is lined with felt, which is definitely something
- 40:18Speaker 4: that ll Bean did.
- 40:21Speaker 2: A lot of Pei muscles are named after this island
- 40:25Speaker 2: that's found in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Budget on that one.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Apparently, I don't think we're going to give you the
- 40:34Speaker 2: pack boot. It sounds like that came later. The duck
- 40:37Speaker 2: boot was the og. Do you have this one right?
- 40:41Speaker 5: Name?
- 40:41Speaker 2: No, Roman, do you have this one right?
- 40:43Speaker 5: I'm feeling suspiciously decent about.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Oh okay, good Brody. I didn't know that about you.
- 40:47Speaker 2: I didn't know you were a big muscle ga.
- 40:49Speaker 7: Oh god, man, I have broth and bread, muscles and
- 40:52Speaker 7: fries probably my top three meals.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 40:55Speaker 3: It's the worst thing, is it?
- 40:57Speaker 9: Like we go to Steve's shack and it's just like
- 41:00Speaker 9: miles of muscle encrusted shoreline, but we're like never there
- 41:04Speaker 9: at a time of year when it's like, yeah, you could,
- 41:06Speaker 9: you can go get.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Them because the seasons.
- 41:10Speaker 9: Because of that what the what is it called the Yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 9: Second Street Bistro in Livingston is probably where we do
- 41:19Speaker 9: most of our muscles and fries.
- 41:21Speaker 2: P e. I Muscles named after this island that's found
- 41:24Speaker 2: in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Nate is gonna make
- 41:26Speaker 2: one last change. Then we're gonna flip them over. Go
- 41:33Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says, Prince Edward Island. Roman,
- 41:38Speaker 2: Prince Edward Island, Randall, same answer, John without an answer,
- 41:41Speaker 2: Krin and Brody said. Prince Edward Island says Prince Edward Island.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Come on, don't give.
- 41:54Speaker 2: It to me. I don't care.
- 41:58Speaker 5: You know, his belly was like grumbling.
- 42:01Speaker 2: The answer is Prince Edward, don't get Edward mussel.
- 42:07Speaker 7: I would give it to him, but if he wants
- 42:08Speaker 7: to go to it, I don't.
- 42:12Speaker 2: We're gonna give him the point. Pi muscles are a
- 42:15Speaker 2: type of blue muscle that comes from the coastline of
- 42:18Speaker 2: Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward. A bunch of people are
- 42:21Speaker 2: gonna be like Brodie. They are. They are considered a
- 42:27Speaker 2: superior muscle thanks to the cold, nutrient rich waters where
- 42:31Speaker 2: they're raised. Pei muscles are known for their jet black shells,
- 42:34Speaker 2: sweet flavor, and tender meat.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Another way of looking at it is, if you count
- 42:38Speaker 4: pack boot and you don't count Prince Edward muscles, I
- 42:41Speaker 4: would have just won outright, So we don't even need to.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Go to Yeah, yeah, Randall won it. We'll give it
- 42:50Speaker 2: to Brody for Prince Edward muscles. Brody's the winner today
- 42:54Speaker 2: with eight correct.
- 42:55Speaker 5: Answers, I feel like this fell flat beats.
- 42:58Speaker 2: The Shelby index by one point.
- 43:00Speaker 8: Another episode three three, that whole thing just threw me off.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Should we do it, Tiebreaker Spencer, No, since.
- 43:13Speaker 9: We have a new Conservation director and Mark Kenyon, and
- 43:18Speaker 9: we're gonna do like a new version of the l
- 43:20Speaker 9: A I.
- 43:21Speaker 5: Let's throw some.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Money in the med Eater land access is okay.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Mark thinks it's coming this summer. We haven't done an
- 43:27Speaker 2: auction house of it. He's in wild that we have
- 43:29Speaker 2: all kinds of good stuff. Join us next week for
- 43:33Speaker 2: more meat Eater Trivia, the only game show Conservation always wins.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Thanks Spencer, Spencer, Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host,
- 43:43Speaker 1: using those smooth mellow tones. He lays them questions down,
- 43:53Speaker 1: and he likes taking those two and three year old bucks.
- 43:57Speaker 1: It is an avid amateur lock how
