- 1:05Speaker 1: don't miss a moment of college basketball and Direct TV Stream.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The entertainment package starts at eighty six ninety nine. I
- 1:14Speaker 1: just read the Choice Package, by the way, that includes
- 1:16Speaker 1: Fan Duel which is former Bally's and then the Ultimate
- 1:21Speaker 1: Package that includes over one hundred and sixty channels, one
- 1:24Speaker 1: oh four ninety nine per month. All right, we got
- 1:28Speaker 1: that out of the way. So the last time I
- 1:31Speaker 1: did a show, we had just lost to the Pacers
- 1:34Speaker 1: without their starting lineup, basically, right, And there was three games, right,
- 1:42Speaker 1: two New Orleans games in another Pacer game, which you
- 1:45Speaker 1: assumed then that they're going to be a little more healthy,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and they definitely were, and they took it out on
- 1:50Speaker 1: us and by the way, and so it was three games.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I had guessed in that double Indiana, New Orleans. Those
- 1:58Speaker 1: four games I thought would be two and two. I
- 2:01Speaker 1: did get some pushback from that based off the New
- 2:05Speaker 1: Orleans game, really, but we ended up going one in
- 2:10Speaker 1: two and I guess you could say one in three
- 2:12Speaker 1: really for those four games. But there was only three
- 2:15Speaker 1: games that it passed. And I thought, you know what,
- 2:19Speaker 1: like why even do a podcast right now, Like, let's
- 2:24Speaker 1: see how this plays out. Let's see how the next
- 2:27Speaker 1: couple of games play out. You know, they got some
- 2:30Speaker 1: interesting games with Detroit that turned into a brawl and
- 2:35Speaker 1: it was real, real feisty, right, but they were missing
- 2:39Speaker 1: a key player. And I just knew, Okay, the Denver
- 2:43Speaker 1: games come in Phoenix, you know, I just wanted to
- 2:46Speaker 1: kind of see how we're what we what did they
- 2:50Speaker 1: win eight in a row? And I kind of wanted
- 2:53Speaker 1: to kind of wanted to find out how they bounce back.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So I delayed the show a couple of for a
- 3:01Speaker 1: couple of games, and then it was like, you know what,
- 3:03Speaker 1: let's just run it all the way through this week.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And I have the night off tonight, so I figured
- 3:08Speaker 1: why not, It's a perfect time to do it. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know, now they've won four in a round, and
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean part of that the you know, obviously the
- 3:21Speaker 1: Denver game, that epic, one of the best regular season
- 3:25Speaker 1: games I've seen in a long long time. It felt
- 3:30Speaker 1: like the Timberwolves had lost it a couple times in
- 3:34Speaker 1: that game, like that was a great game, but I
- 3:36Speaker 1: don't think we got it, you know. And then same
- 3:39Speaker 1: with Denver. I'm sure their fans thought they had won
- 3:42Speaker 1: it or lost it. You know, I really thought we
- 3:44Speaker 1: had won it a couple of times, then lost it
- 3:46Speaker 1: a couple of times and ended up you know, getting
- 3:49Speaker 1: the job done one to one thirty nine. That was
- 3:53Speaker 1: just a crazy game. So we're definitely going to recap,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know a little bit of last night. Get my
- 4:00Speaker 1: thoughts to just dig into some of the stuff in
- 4:03Speaker 1: that Denver game. I mean, the heart, the will, just
- 4:07Speaker 1: everything they showed in that game was just phenomenal. Yes,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know, of course we didn't have Dante, and when
- 4:13Speaker 1: I say we, I mean the timber Wolves they didn't
- 4:16Speaker 1: have you know, they didn't have Dante and they didn't
- 4:19Speaker 1: have Nas. But to be fair, like you know, Martin
- 4:23Speaker 1: and Nas, you could kind of compare them a little bit,
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'd say both offensive players. I'd say Nas is probably
- 4:31Speaker 1: a better defensive player, although he has his wards as well.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But I love me some Dante DiVincenzo, don't get me wrong,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but I definitely would put Murray ahead of him. Right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So the fact that we, you know, had two suspended players,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say exactly even it out, but like
- 4:52Speaker 1: I said, I just that game was just ridiculous. So
- 4:55Speaker 1: I kind of have like two sets of notes because,
- 4:59Speaker 1: like I said, I just gonna do that three games
- 5:02Speaker 1: and then do another podcast because we had that three
- 5:04Speaker 1: day last week. Remember we had a game Monday and
- 5:07Speaker 1: had three straight days off, and I suppose Dante and
- 5:12Speaker 1: Noz got another three days off, didn't they, or at
- 5:15Speaker 1: least two? So there's some notes that I'll talk about,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know that kind of had to do with that
- 5:22Speaker 1: little losing streak type frame and then kind of catch
- 5:25Speaker 1: us up there obviously that you know, I hate to
- 5:30Speaker 1: say I told you so, but I didn't feel good
- 5:34Speaker 1: about that New Orleans matchup. You know, win Zion's plan,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I went over, Yeah, they missed this guy and
- 5:41Speaker 1: that guy. But if they had Zion Zion and they
- 5:44Speaker 1: had a home and you know it just we always
- 5:48Speaker 1: play those guys, you know tight. It seems win Zion's
- 5:52Speaker 1: on the court, so you know, losing that first game,
- 5:57Speaker 1: Zion you know, had like a layup the end to
- 6:01Speaker 1: kind of I think with like kind of know under
- 6:03Speaker 1: twenty seconds. But you know, it's something I mentioned last
- 6:10Speaker 1: podcast about the missed free throws, and I'm looking at
- 6:13Speaker 1: my notes at the last part of that game in
- 6:15Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, and Nas misses two free throws, Dante
- 6:18Speaker 1: was one of two. Zion's just killing us. Now luckily
- 6:24Speaker 1: New Orleans in a stretch missed three out of four
- 6:26Speaker 1: free throws, but Ant you know, was missing driving layups.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Randall was one in one of two, Nas was one
- 6:35Speaker 1: of two. I'm just looking at it, you know, there
- 6:37Speaker 1: was another three point attempt that was kind of like
- 6:40Speaker 1: wishy washy from ant and he missed another layup. So
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, it was just a bad game, not a
- 6:49Speaker 1: good game at all. It was winnable, though, it was
- 6:51Speaker 1: definitely winnable. You know, we were up. It was kind
- 6:55Speaker 1: of a back and forth game. Now with no Zion.
- 6:58Speaker 1: There was this stretch where it was like twenty nine
- 7:01Speaker 1: to eleven kind of opened up the game where really
- 7:03Speaker 1: had a great game in that game and kind of
- 7:05Speaker 1: broke open the game and we ended up winning it
- 7:08Speaker 1: pretty handily, right as we should know Zion, right, and
- 7:12Speaker 1: they already had some guys missing, so there was really
- 7:14Speaker 1: no excuse not to win that game. I was really wondering, Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know, let's see how we do against Indy when
- 7:24Speaker 1: they got their squad back, because that was another thing.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Remember Indy was just pushing the ball on us, even
- 7:30Speaker 1: with their backups. Push push, push, push, push, and it
- 7:33Speaker 1: was killing us. And I remember, you know, thinking, man,
- 7:38Speaker 1: like this is not like there's if teams can pull
- 7:42Speaker 1: this off, they're gonna push. And you could even see
- 7:45Speaker 1: Denver was doing that a little bit to us, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: topping he uh, he went off again. Why not? But
- 7:56Speaker 1: they had their full lineup right Indy did, obvious. Ant
- 8:01Speaker 1: was a little in between with that. Was it his
- 8:04Speaker 1: thumb or hand or whatever kind of thought it was
- 8:07Speaker 1: a finger, then it looked like kind of a thumb
- 8:10Speaker 1: hand thing. He did make it in that lineup and stuff,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and it was a slow start, no doubt about it.
- 8:16Speaker 1: But for them, the game kind of even though we
- 8:20Speaker 1: closed the I think Dante had like five quick points
- 8:25Speaker 1: late and and we made it like I'm looking at
- 8:29Speaker 1: my notes right now, eleven and four run to close
- 8:31Speaker 1: the second quarter against Indy, and it was fifty four
- 8:35Speaker 1: to forty eight at half. Hal Burton hits two threes.
- 8:42Speaker 1: You know, Rudy's doing his thing, no doubt. Ant hit
- 8:45Speaker 1: his first three in the third quarter. You know, we
- 8:50Speaker 1: made a little run cut it back to under double
- 8:53Speaker 1: digits because you know it was it was over that,
- 8:57Speaker 1: that's for sure. But there was just some bad turnovers
- 9:03Speaker 1: once again, Ant missing the layup, not finishing at the
- 9:06Speaker 1: rim especially. It's something that especially lately, he's been kind
- 9:11Speaker 1: of I don't know, he was sleep walking with a
- 9:13Speaker 1: bad pass. Alexander Walker had a bad pass and then
- 9:19Speaker 1: just dropped a ball that was passed to him or
- 9:22Speaker 1: was that Ant? I can't remember. It's been so long ago,
- 9:25Speaker 1: but you know, like top it hits a three, it's
- 9:31Speaker 1: eighty five to sixty seven late in the third at
- 9:34Speaker 1: that point, Ant, like I said, he got his first three,
- 9:37Speaker 1: but he was one of ten at the time. We
- 9:39Speaker 1: were getting beat by like twenty two points. Now they
- 9:42Speaker 1: did make like a mini run, and you're thinking, Okay,
- 9:45Speaker 1: can we get back. Nope, Nope, we can't. Uh Nas
- 9:49Speaker 1: had a good game though. In that game, I'll give
- 9:51Speaker 1: him that. Like I said, Rudy did too. We had
- 9:53Speaker 1: a bunch of turnovers, just a poor performance overall. The defense,
- 9:57Speaker 1: the offense. We just got out played, got out hustled.
- 10:03Speaker 1: We had seventeen turnovers and only ten free thrones. So
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know it was it was an ugly one, right.
- 10:12Speaker 1: So that kind of catches us up to more recent
- 10:17Speaker 1: games obviously, you know the Phoenix, it's similar to Denver
- 10:27Speaker 1: at this point. Like the Phoenix, they must just hate us,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Like Denver fans must just hate us when they're sitting
- 10:34Speaker 1: there watching the ship. Now, don't get me wrong, they
- 10:38Speaker 1: have a chip, you know. So I can't sit there
- 10:41Speaker 1: and talk too much about it. Right, But what is
- 10:46Speaker 1: it six in a row? Now we keep winning in
- 10:49Speaker 1: their house? What is it four or three in a
- 10:52Speaker 1: row in their house? We won the first two in
- 10:56Speaker 1: the series, We won three out of the four home
- 10:58Speaker 1: games in that seven games. I mean, like I said,
- 11:01Speaker 1: they just must hate us with a passion. I mean,
- 11:04Speaker 1: it's just it's just crazy. But that that Sun's game too,
- 11:08Speaker 1: What is it do we sweeping this year? Is at
- 11:11Speaker 1: seven in a row against them? And which is so
- 11:15Speaker 1: wild because you know, in the regular season before that series,
- 11:21Speaker 1: a lot of those games we were getting our I
- 11:23Speaker 1: was kicked against the Suns. We get like five six
- 11:26Speaker 1: days off, get the game plan, and then we start
- 11:30Speaker 1: whipping their ass, you know. So, yeah, we won seven
- 11:35Speaker 1: in a row against the Suns. Now just owning them.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And yeah, I remember like late was it the last
- 11:44Speaker 1: game on the Sunday afternoon? For for whatever reason, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: maybe this is just the Timberwolves fan fan fandom going
- 11:50Speaker 1: on right now, but it just feels like we always
- 11:53Speaker 1: get and I know it's not always, and I don't
- 11:56Speaker 1: have the stats right in front of me or nothing,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but it just seems like we always have the damn
- 12:01Speaker 1: Sunday game to close the year. This one's at two thirty,
- 12:05Speaker 1: I believe, so at least it's not like six or whatever.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But it really doesn't matter. It's just weird. It's just
- 12:10Speaker 1: something weird. But anyway, I just I remember them beating
- 12:13Speaker 1: our ass in that game and thinking, man, excuse me,
- 12:16Speaker 1: be solf serious, dude, And you know, as we saw it,
- 12:22Speaker 1: definitely wasn't. Definitely wasn't. So we're picking up a little
- 12:25Speaker 1: bit of steam. And you know, the Detroit game, we
- 12:31Speaker 1: started out speaking of sleeps walking. I mean that we
- 12:35Speaker 1: were sleepwalking really bad in that game. And I forgot who,
- 12:42Speaker 1: like who tweeted this. I think it was Dane Moore.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He said, you know, they shouldn't they they they're really
- 12:52Speaker 1: dumb to even this isn't what he tweeted, but basically
- 12:55Speaker 1: he's like, why did they even like we were already sleepwalking?
- 13:00Speaker 1: They wake us up? You know that they should have
- 13:03Speaker 1: known that they're not We're not playing them without their
- 13:07Speaker 1: best point guard, right, they're point forward. Basically the dude's
- 13:10Speaker 1: a really tall dude, so like he's not a Ford.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But you know what I mean, like they've been playing
- 13:15Speaker 1: a good brand of basketball this year. It does help
- 13:18Speaker 1: us with our pick by the way. But as soon
- 13:23Speaker 1: as you know, things popped off and you could tell
- 13:27Speaker 1: something was gonna happen, not just from that little shoulder
- 13:30Speaker 1: shrug with Danze, but before that, well before that, it
- 13:36Speaker 1: was getting real. It was getting a little reckless on
- 13:41Speaker 1: both sides. You know, I don't blame everybody wants to
- 13:45Speaker 1: just put it on one player, but I think everybody
- 13:48Speaker 1: kind of you know, the at least the players on
- 13:50Speaker 1: the court. Obviously some coaches got suspended too, on both sides,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and a lot of that is just getting involved in
- 13:58Speaker 1: in you know, you're not you're not supposed to leave
- 14:00Speaker 1: the bench, right did they still have that rulers that
- 14:03Speaker 1: is that out now that you're not supposed to leave
- 14:05Speaker 1: the bench? But anyway, after that, you know debacle, I mean,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know, it really woke us up because we were down.
- 14:16Speaker 1: We were down by like sixteen, and it was looking like, dude,
- 14:20Speaker 1: are we really gonna it's not you know, this year,
- 14:23Speaker 1: losing the Detroit is not like a slap in the face,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but when they don't have their best player, then it
- 14:31Speaker 1: does turn into a slap face. So it definitely turns
- 14:35Speaker 1: into a slap in the face. So that I mean
- 14:38Speaker 1: so Al Horton here just on Twitter, he said, this
- 14:44Speaker 1: is at halftime. He said, Minnesota Detroit just played a
- 14:47Speaker 1: first half that lasted an hour and twenty minutes, featuring
- 14:50Speaker 1: thirty two falls, forty four free those eight technicals, seven
- 14:55Speaker 1: ejections in a forty eight minute second quarter. That's wild
- 15:03Speaker 1: when you put in that perspective. And I believe that
- 15:06Speaker 1: night Rudy went off again, he had like nineteen and
- 15:10Speaker 1: twenty five or something like that. Was that that game
- 15:13Speaker 1: had a bunch of offensive rebounds. I think ten or
- 15:17Speaker 1: ten of the twenty five was if I remember correctly.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But yeah, twelve technical fauls handed out. This is OPTA stat.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Twelve technical falls handed out in that game, the most
- 15:30Speaker 1: combined technicals in the NBA since the Mavericks and Warriors
- 15:34Speaker 1: combined for twelve back in March twenty third, two thousand
- 15:37Speaker 1: and five. So yeah, that kind of tells you. Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 1: we were down sixteen. It marked our seventh fifteen point comeback,
- 15:48Speaker 1: second most in the league at that time anyway, Right,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and you know we got the most wins we've ever
- 15:58Speaker 1: had in March. If you look at the net rating
- 16:00Speaker 1: and the offense and defense, and I mean it's we're
- 16:04Speaker 1: really putting it all together, man. I mean it's pretty
- 16:09Speaker 1: crazy really, And yeah, I think it was let's see here, Okay,
- 16:17Speaker 1: see go figure them and Boston had the best March
- 16:20Speaker 1: record fifteen to one and fourteen one. But you know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: the Timers were eleven and three, Golden State was eleven
- 16:25Speaker 1: and four, and Houston was twelve and five, and they
- 16:27Speaker 1: had made a nice little jump prior to that. And
- 16:32Speaker 1: when we did beat We're gonna get to the Nuggets.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That was the h the sweep. It was the first
- 16:37Speaker 1: sweep of the Nuggets in twenty two years. That's just
- 16:42Speaker 1: wild stuff, man, just wild stuff anyway, kind of just
- 16:48Speaker 1: going through that game. It just like I said, they
- 16:56Speaker 1: didn't have Murray, they didn't have Porter. I think Nas
- 16:59Speaker 1: and Porter in a sense, I know he's starter, in
- 17:03Speaker 1: I don't know, I think they're pretty close to each other.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I know that Porter is a starter and he makes
- 17:11Speaker 1: a lot more money and all that, but I think
- 17:12Speaker 1: they're a lot closer whereas I think Murray and Dante.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I do favor Murray over there, especially on that team.
- 17:18Speaker 1: But you know, we did start out like crap. I mean,
- 17:24Speaker 1: it was it was like twelve to two right away,
- 17:28Speaker 1: nineteen to five, twenty one to ten, Rudy picked up
- 17:32Speaker 1: a second fall and you're like, dude, what is going on?
- 17:35Speaker 1: But they did make a nice little run to close
- 17:38Speaker 1: eleven two to run, so it was only thirty two
- 17:40Speaker 1: to twenty six, and before you know it, they made
- 17:44Speaker 1: another seven zero run and we're only down by a
- 17:46Speaker 1: few points, right so you're right in there, and Timberwolves
- 17:51Speaker 1: on the offensive rebounds. Now they started to catch up
- 17:54Speaker 1: a little bit Denver, but it was eight to one,
- 17:56Speaker 1: like midway second quarter. Dylan am actually got in just
- 18:01Speaker 1: for a little bit, had a nice steal and dunk
- 18:04Speaker 1: not hit a three. Rudy had these rebound dunks. You know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Rudy lately has like five six eight, Like he's got
- 18:13Speaker 1: a bunch of dunks in these games. And it does
- 18:15Speaker 1: feel like we're starting to activate him a lot more
- 18:19Speaker 1: like we did last year. So you know, Denver did
- 18:26Speaker 1: was only up by a point. I think they was
- 18:31Speaker 1: it sixteen points? Is that what I said? They were
- 18:33Speaker 1: up by sixteen points at some point, and we actually
- 18:38Speaker 1: took the lead from a from a Conley three very
- 18:41Speaker 1: early in the third quarter, and there were these this
- 18:50Speaker 1: is where he's getting a little frustrating in the game, right,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I mean, the start of the game is frustrating, but
- 18:55Speaker 1: then they got their shit together. But there was these
- 18:59Speaker 1: possessions in a role where we just couldn't get the rebound.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And I know that even at that time it was
- 19:06Speaker 1: twelve to six, but it felt like the third quarters
- 19:09Speaker 1: when it started to fall apart for a little bit there,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and you just kept giving these guys like extra possessions
- 19:18Speaker 1: and ended up falling Yokic your you know, Jokic, you
- 19:22Speaker 1: know sixty what sixty two points like he was he
- 19:25Speaker 1: had more, pretty sure, Jokic had more nineteen. I think
- 19:29Speaker 1: it was made free throws than the Timberwolves in general.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And these for those who remember way back in the
- 19:37Speaker 1: day Arkansas, Scottie Thurman, those three point shots, remember the
- 19:42Speaker 1: one he hit against Duke the rainbow. It's it's kind
- 19:46Speaker 1: of like now, he wouldn't lean with it, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 1: like like jokicch Jokics leans with this three points sometimes,
- 19:53Speaker 1: but and we were giving them to him, like, hey man,
- 19:55Speaker 1: we'll give it to you, but he's like, all right,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'll take it. Then his rainbow threes and some of
- 20:00Speaker 1: those shots he was making it's like, what can you do, man,
- 20:05Speaker 1: There's not much you can do. Rudy though a couple
- 20:08Speaker 1: end ones the last couple of nights as well, So
- 20:12Speaker 1: it's back and forth, back and forth. And one thing
- 20:15Speaker 1: because they don't have a rim protector, which is the
- 20:18Speaker 1: weakness defense overall, Like Jokic can be in the right
- 20:23Speaker 1: spot and he's got a good defensive IQ in a
- 20:26Speaker 1: sense right, but as far as like him being their
- 20:29Speaker 1: center and him being able to play defense at even
- 20:32Speaker 1: a pretty high level, he's not all that great at
- 20:37Speaker 1: He's definitely not a rim protector, so that does help amp.
- 20:41Speaker 1: And he was making some really really good decisions. As
- 20:46Speaker 1: we know it's been sometimes it's hit or miss, especially
- 20:49Speaker 1: when it's behind the three point line and they rush
- 20:51Speaker 1: them with two guys. Sometimes you know, there's a little
- 20:54Speaker 1: hesitant where you're like, dude, get rid of the ball now,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know, and you're waiting and waiting, waiting. But he
- 20:59Speaker 1: was doing a good job. He's driving and dishing, and
- 21:01Speaker 1: he made a lot of good points. There are a
- 21:04Speaker 1: lot of good passes, a lot of good plays, like
- 21:07Speaker 1: just decision making. Now, after I throw all the superlatives,
- 21:14Speaker 1: there are a couple moments where you're like, are you serious, dude.
- 21:19Speaker 1: But anyway, at that point, it's the end of the
- 21:23Speaker 1: third quarter, Timbers up by five. They had like an
- 21:27Speaker 1: eight to one run there and Alexander Walker five assists
- 21:32Speaker 1: at the time five boards, has eighteen points. Jokic. You know,
- 21:36Speaker 1: here's the thing though, at the end of the third
- 21:38Speaker 1: Jokic had thirty three points, right, which tells you what
- 21:41Speaker 1: he did in the fourth quarter overtime, But he only
- 21:43Speaker 1: had four assists, which also tells you you got six
- 21:46Speaker 1: you know the rest of the time. But for assists, dude,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you know it sounds funny. You don't want Jokic just
- 21:52Speaker 1: to score like here, man, yeah, I have the bucket,
- 21:54Speaker 1: like like that one Ant possession. I'll say that the
- 21:59Speaker 1: double team on him wasn't as effective at times, and
- 22:05Speaker 1: and some of it had to do with Ant just
- 22:07Speaker 1: wasn't good at double teaming, and he wasn't doing much
- 22:10Speaker 1: And there was that one possession. Here's a frustrating part
- 22:14Speaker 1: that one possession. Now it's it's yogich, dude. So I
- 22:18Speaker 1: don't expect you to like guard him, guard him, but
- 22:20Speaker 1: if you're on him, at least like put some effort
- 22:24Speaker 1: in there. It was like the most non effort here,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you're gonna back me up, back me up, back me up.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You know what. Here, I'll just let you take this
- 22:30Speaker 1: little nuffing shot and for him, shit, you might as
- 22:34Speaker 1: well put him on the free throw then. You know,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't know not to say that he's a poor
- 22:38Speaker 1: free throw shooter, but it's like he missed one, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: late in that game anyway, so like you might as
- 22:44Speaker 1: well follow him if that's the type of defense you're
- 22:46Speaker 1: gonna play. So I was a little frustrating, but there,
- 22:51Speaker 1: it was just frustrating because the dude was just you know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: like our doubles weren't working that well, and you could
- 23:00Speaker 1: there was like a moment there in the fourth where
- 23:02Speaker 1: Ant was looking tired. Randall had some turnovers, he missed
- 23:06Speaker 1: defensive assignments. It's ninety five to eighty six, and Randall
- 23:13Speaker 1: had a turnover. Rudy got a fourth fall, then he
- 23:15Speaker 1: had a fall on the other end Randall after that turnover,
- 23:19Speaker 1: and it was like, you know, this isn't working. But
- 23:25Speaker 1: Randall did have a pretty damn good game. And you know,
- 23:30Speaker 1: there was two different drive passes, very creative and then
- 23:35Speaker 1: explosive with his drive too from Ant, and as we know,
- 23:39Speaker 1: Rudy picked up a fifth fall and eventually falled out,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but the game was tied one away. One away. Ant
- 23:46Speaker 1: hits a three and hit another three to go up. Jokic,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you know, looked kind of like maybe he was a
- 23:53Speaker 1: push up, but then again maybe he got Rudy off
- 23:56Speaker 1: balance and that's how he you know, he falled out.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I believe in that moment. But it's like it's like
- 24:04Speaker 1: one eleven, one ten, like it's just the shots. That
- 24:11Speaker 1: the one thing I'll say, right, like I said, it
- 24:14Speaker 1: felt like we won this thing a couple of times,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and it felt like we lost this thing a couple
- 24:18Speaker 1: of times. And as I mentioned, like I'm sure they
- 24:23Speaker 1: were thinking the same thing obviously, and we got the win,
- 24:26Speaker 1: but it just to me, it just I don't know,
- 24:35Speaker 1: you know, and had a charge you know, up up
- 24:41Speaker 1: up to he had a charge with twenty nine seconds left.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We missed a wide open three with like fifty something
- 24:48Speaker 1: seconds left. Rudy did miss a free throw in there
- 24:51Speaker 1: as well, late or not in overtime, but in the
- 24:57Speaker 1: regulation the fourth quarter, i should say, in regulations. So
- 25:02Speaker 1: you know, we end up following Yokichi makes the two
- 25:07Speaker 1: shots right, and it was just a tough three. You know,
- 25:15Speaker 1: we just weren't really getting good looks and sometimes and
- 25:19Speaker 1: that's where I'd say, Aunt, there's a couple of things
- 25:21Speaker 1: that I'll point out in general about the timber Wolves,
- 25:25Speaker 1: but Ant in Randall, at times we're just holding the
- 25:28Speaker 1: ball a little too much. And in those games, you know,
- 25:33Speaker 1: in the last part of those games or quarters, I
- 25:35Speaker 1: should say, the fourth quarter and first overtime, second over time,
- 25:39Speaker 1: it's just the looks that we got were just not
- 25:42Speaker 1: that good. And to do it in the first and
- 25:44Speaker 1: then the second and then for stuff to happen, like
- 25:47Speaker 1: it was a good look from Randall late when he
- 25:50Speaker 1: got followed, no doubt, but like I don't know, but anyway,
- 25:55Speaker 1: it's Aunt has he takes he has a mid range,
- 26:01Speaker 1: he gets up right Jaden, I think I think Ant
- 26:08Speaker 1: took this like Steph Curry type three with like plenty
- 26:15Speaker 1: on the shot clock. Luckily Jayden did tap it in.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I believe that was the one. But you know, under
- 26:23Speaker 1: four minutes to play, Jokic's got fifty points. Nah hits
- 26:28Speaker 1: a three. It's one twenty one, one eleven with two
- 26:31Speaker 1: thirty nine left, a long jumper from and it looks
- 26:34Speaker 1: like a three, but it's not. So we're up. You know.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Once again, we're up by six, two fourteen. There's no
- 26:41Speaker 1: turnovers right in the in the quarter, we're five to
- 26:45Speaker 1: seven from from the field and and once again, like
- 26:51Speaker 1: the broadcast, someone on the broadcast team said it. He
- 26:54Speaker 1: said that that last three was kind of like a turnover.
- 26:57Speaker 1: He air bawled it. It was just like a a
- 27:00Speaker 1: very heat checky Steph, but you're not step I know
- 27:05Speaker 1: he thinks a lot of threes, but it just it
- 27:08Speaker 1: was a bad shot and I it went end. There
- 27:11Speaker 1: are some times with Aunt where you're like, no, dude, okay,
- 27:14Speaker 1: you hit it. Forget, I'll shut up, you know. But
- 27:16Speaker 1: I just didn't think it was time to heat check,
- 27:18Speaker 1: that's all. And you know, so that was a I
- 27:24Speaker 1: had some issues with that, right I get. I definitely did.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And this is where it got all crazy. Man. Jokic
- 27:31Speaker 1: hits the three with like seventy seconds left or something
- 27:34Speaker 1: like that, and they're down by three. Ant like a
- 27:39Speaker 1: great pass from Randall, like a give and go, and
- 27:43Speaker 1: Aunt makes a great layup and you're like, dude, we're
- 27:46Speaker 1: up by five. And it just and literally I'm looking
- 27:49Speaker 1: at the clock fifty seven point one and at fifty
- 27:53Speaker 1: three point one, Gordon hits a three long three. You're like, dude,
- 27:58Speaker 1: it's like you didn't even have time to like feel
- 28:01Speaker 1: good about stuff, you know, like it was like, hell, yeah,
- 28:05Speaker 1: oh he just hit a three. Oh God, here we go.
- 28:08Speaker 1: You know. It was just it was that type of game.
- 28:11Speaker 1: And Alexander Walker missed the three. Jokic misses a pretty
- 28:17Speaker 1: close up shot. And here's where I have it. We're
- 28:21Speaker 1: in our first overtime, right, and here's where I'm just like, Aunt,
- 28:24Speaker 1: what are you doing now? On the broadcast, they said
- 28:28Speaker 1: it was Alexander Walker has to go to the ball
- 28:33Speaker 1: when he passed the cross court kind of like a
- 28:35Speaker 1: wide receiver cornerback thing, right, Like you can't leave your
- 28:39Speaker 1: your your your quarterback out to dry. You have to
- 28:41Speaker 1: go to the ball. Sure, in that moment, could he
- 28:45Speaker 1: have gone to the ball? Yeah? Of course, did he
- 28:49Speaker 1: for sure think it was coming? I don't know about that,
- 28:52Speaker 1: but so yeah, sure you could say that. And if
- 28:58Speaker 1: you did go forward and extend your arms, more more
- 29:01Speaker 1: than likely brawn who's coming through, it'll probably result in
- 29:05Speaker 1: a foul. More than likely. But the point is, Okay,
- 29:10Speaker 1: like Randall got the rebound, dished it to Ant. There's
- 29:15Speaker 1: there's no shot clock. You're up by two. I mean
- 29:20Speaker 1: you're literally up by two. You have a timeout, and yes,
- 29:24Speaker 1: they are attempting to trap him, right and you know
- 29:29Speaker 1: there's still time on the clock. So yeah, there's no
- 29:31Speaker 1: shot clock. But he turned it over at like the
- 29:34Speaker 1: eighteen second mark or whatever, and so yeah, he would
- 29:38Speaker 1: have had to get across the court at some point,
- 29:41Speaker 1: whether he did it or passed it or whatever, but
- 29:43Speaker 1: not really because one, they hadn't fully trapped you yet.
- 29:50Speaker 1: And I'm not saying wait until they try to grab
- 29:52Speaker 1: the ball from you, but you could have just dribbled
- 29:55Speaker 1: around more. And and you know there was there was
- 29:59Speaker 1: like west I think it was Westbrook and Gordon. Maybe
- 30:02Speaker 1: it's Westbrook and Jokic, but they were on the way
- 30:08Speaker 1: basically to trapping it. But they weren't. They didn't fully
- 30:12Speaker 1: take away his dribble yet. And I'm not saying he
- 30:14Speaker 1: could have dribbled to his left, but he could have
- 30:17Speaker 1: dribbled backwards into his right and you know, make them
- 30:20Speaker 1: follow you. And if they're gonna just let you dribble
- 30:23Speaker 1: for eight seconds and see if you can get you know,
- 30:27Speaker 1: across the court. Sure, okay, then you call a timeout
- 30:30Speaker 1: or then you pass it. But when you're up by
- 30:32Speaker 1: two and you have a time out, you do not
- 30:36Speaker 1: throw that pass. I don't give a shit if Alexander
- 30:40Speaker 1: Walker didn't extend his arms. It was just I just
- 30:44Speaker 1: can't believe that happened. And I'm like, are you f
- 30:47Speaker 1: and kidding me? And sure enough, Jokic, you know, just
- 30:52Speaker 1: an easy little back you down, no problem, right, and
- 30:58Speaker 1: then Walker put up a shot at the end of it.
- 31:01Speaker 1: It we just didn't get really a good shot again,
- 31:05Speaker 1: you know. It was like, eh, here we go again.
- 31:08Speaker 1: We we we have this, we have a drawn up play.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And yeah, there's sometimes where I think that the structure
- 31:15Speaker 1: is needed, more structures needed with with you know, with Finch.
- 31:21Speaker 1: But there's also times where you're like a highly doubt
- 31:25Speaker 1: that the play was dribble for eight seconds and then
- 31:29Speaker 1: do this and that you know, or we've we've heard
- 31:33Speaker 1: plenty that you know, and just goes rogue and takes
- 31:38Speaker 1: a tough ass shot, you know. A few weeks ago,
- 31:42Speaker 1: McDaniels wide open for a three and he and he
- 31:44Speaker 1: took a contested, you know, leaning tough ass shot. So
- 31:51Speaker 1: this game was great, and at in the first half sucked.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Second half was phenomenal, and he did so many great things,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but the non effort on defense, and I just can't
- 32:02Speaker 1: believe his first instinct was to throw the ball, Like,
- 32:05Speaker 1: why they haven't even trapped you yet. Sorry, I'll stop,
- 32:08Speaker 1: I'll stop, Okay, I'll shut up. So Devery kind of
- 32:11Speaker 1: pops off right away with a little six to zero
- 32:13Speaker 1: run and they're up by three. Jaden has a nice
- 32:17Speaker 1: little put back and has a tough drive and it
- 32:21Speaker 1: should have been called there. I'll say that he was.
- 32:23Speaker 1: We were up one thirty five, one thirty four with
- 32:28Speaker 1: like around a minute left, a little over a minute.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Probably should have gotten a fall there, I will say that.
- 32:35Speaker 1: But we know the turmb rolves don't have a great whistle.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Let's put it that way. And then there was a
- 32:43Speaker 1: fall on ant and Gordon hit a three and they're
- 32:46Speaker 1: up by two. And now Walker comes back, We're up
- 32:50Speaker 1: by one. He hits a three. I think Conley assisted it.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Westbrook missed a free throw right and this is this
- 33:00Speaker 1: is where it just gets it just gets crazy. So
- 33:04Speaker 1: Jokic uh, Westbrook miss Frito. McDaniel's lost the ball. Although
- 33:11Speaker 1: that that that whole Jayden, I don't know the Jaden thing.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I don't know how they didn't review the play, and
- 33:20Speaker 1: even if it would have just been their ball, at
- 33:23Speaker 1: least review the play like that. I couldn't believe there's like, yeah,
- 33:26Speaker 1: we're jump ball like what like, even if it's not
- 33:30Speaker 1: the Turmberwolves. Like I said, either way, Jokic did miss
- 33:33Speaker 1: a frito, so we got lucky with Westbrook missing it,
- 33:37Speaker 1: Jokic missing it, we call time out down by one
- 33:42Speaker 1: in Edwards once again. Now this one was it was
- 33:47Speaker 1: a turnover, it was a bad pass or whatever. But
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think it was just a miscommunication between him and Randal,
- 33:51Speaker 1: I believe. So I wasn't at I was mad that
- 33:54Speaker 1: it happened, but I wasn't as mad in that scenario
- 33:58Speaker 1: because it looked like a miscommunicator. But I guess, before
- 34:01Speaker 1: you throw, you gotta know where the hell you're throwing it.
- 34:03Speaker 1: But you know when there's seventeen seconds left or whatever.
- 34:07Speaker 1: But you know, Conley did hustle and he at least
- 34:11Speaker 1: affected the play enough where Russell Westbrook missed the layup
- 34:18Speaker 1: and Walker gets the rebound, he goes down and Westbrook
- 34:24Speaker 1: follows him. In the second he followed him, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: Alexander Walker got followed. I was like, we got this dude,
- 34:32Speaker 1: Like all he has to do is hit two out
- 34:33Speaker 1: of three. I was very confident, and you know, I
- 34:36Speaker 1: watched this game on DBR, so I was up to
- 34:39Speaker 1: like probably one forty five something like that. It was
- 34:44Speaker 1: in the wee hours in the morning, and I'm already like, dude,
- 34:47Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be able to There's no way I'm
- 34:51Speaker 1: gonna be able to sleep. You know. It's just like
- 34:54Speaker 1: there's just no way. I'm too I'm too energized. I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: just too jacked up. And so I'm going to go outside.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Don't put something in the air. I mean, it's legal now.
- 35:04Speaker 1: So I was gonna go do what I had to do,
- 35:06Speaker 1: like just to be able to sleep because I was
- 35:08Speaker 1: so it was like playoff atmosphere, and I'm putting my
- 35:11Speaker 1: stuff on, like my hoodie and a jacket to go outside,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and I'm like, we got in the bank. I really
- 35:17Speaker 1: felt that way now once I had to see the
- 35:21Speaker 1: first free throw to be fully committed with it, you know,
- 35:25Speaker 1: but I just felt very confident that Alexander Walker was
- 35:29Speaker 1: going to knock those down. I mean, I was very
- 35:32Speaker 1: very confident and he did obviously at the first two,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and it did like the perfect third miss where it
- 35:40Speaker 1: just went sideways off the rim. It was like the
- 35:43Speaker 1: ideal miss. Not that they would have been able to
- 35:45Speaker 1: do anything with it, but it was crazy, man. I mean,
- 35:53Speaker 1: just like I said, just the most wild one of
- 35:56Speaker 1: the craziest games you know that you've seen in the
- 36:01Speaker 1: regular season a long time. And you know, Alexander Walker
- 36:07Speaker 1: twenty five points. It was, let's see, first player in
- 36:10Speaker 1: history to come up the bench and record twenty five points,
- 36:13Speaker 1: fifty field goals, five make threes, five rebounds, five assistant
- 36:18Speaker 1: two blocks. I mean, this freaking guy. It's just man,
- 36:27Speaker 1: It's just man. I can't say enough. It just I
- 36:31Speaker 1: did see someone on Twitter say the one he can
- 36:38Speaker 1: think of right away as far as the you know,
- 36:42Speaker 1: one of the greatest regular season games for Wolve's history
- 36:45Speaker 1: was December fifth, two thousand and three at Sack. Wolves
- 36:49Speaker 1: were down with six points with twenty six seconds up.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I remember this game, KG hit two threes, Wolves win
- 36:56Speaker 1: and this is you know, back when KG he said
- 36:59Speaker 1: he only hit you know, he made twenty all year.
- 37:01Speaker 1: He barely shot him, so it wasn't you know. It
- 37:05Speaker 1: was kind of like that Sac game in the playoffs
- 37:07Speaker 1: where it was at the end of the shot clock
- 37:09Speaker 1: and they're just like, dude, we need you just just
- 37:13Speaker 1: make the shot and let's let's see here. Oh. There
- 37:20Speaker 1: was also a stat that that the Wolves took twenty
- 37:26Speaker 1: five more shots than Denver. Obviously a bunch of those
- 37:29Speaker 1: offensive rebounds twenty one offensive rebounds. By the way, mine
- 37:33Speaker 1: not got in the game real quick like, and that
- 37:37Speaker 1: was just an awesome little spurt. He gave us out
- 37:40Speaker 1: of completely out of nowhere. But you look at even
- 37:44Speaker 1: if you look at the last five games. This is
- 37:48Speaker 1: a tweet from Daan Moore. Rudy Gobert's rebound total in
- 37:52Speaker 1: the last five games sixteen thirteen, twenty five, twelve and
- 37:56Speaker 1: fourteen at half that was last night. Thirty of those
- 38:01Speaker 1: eighty had been offensive rebound. He's moving better. He's just
- 38:05Speaker 1: there's just something about him, man, There's just something about
- 38:08Speaker 1: him that he's just he's doing his thing, man, I mean,
- 38:11Speaker 1: he's really really doing his thing. He looks great. He
- 38:15Speaker 1: looks great. Now. Last night had a slow start. Both
- 38:22Speaker 1: sides really slow. Then we went on. Theos went on
- 38:26Speaker 1: like a fourteen to two run, got up seventeen to nine,
- 38:30Speaker 1: but the Nets made a ten to one run, so
- 38:32Speaker 1: it was like twenty to nineteen. Very ugly bunch of
- 38:35Speaker 1: turnovers early in the In the second we already had
- 38:40Speaker 1: six turnovers. We were like two of fifteen from three
- 38:46Speaker 1: sometime in the third. So it was in Randall like
- 38:50Speaker 1: had this little weird knee bump. I think he banged
- 38:53Speaker 1: knees with somebody. So he was okay, but just a
- 38:57Speaker 1: sluggish start, you could kind of tell. Besides, and Aunt
- 39:01Speaker 1: was playing pretty good early, but he he got he
- 39:06Speaker 1: twisted his ankle right because the coach was right behind him.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And it's funny because I noticed before it happened, like
- 39:19Speaker 1: minutes before that happened, there was another time, and this
- 39:25Speaker 1: is the first time where the coach was behind him again,
- 39:29Speaker 1: and Ant's running back after a shot and he almost
- 39:32Speaker 1: trips him there. So it's like, dude, what are you
- 39:34Speaker 1: doing right behind offensive players like on the offense when
- 39:39Speaker 1: your team's on the offense or defense whatever, Once they're
- 39:43Speaker 1: in your side of the court, you're generally closer to
- 39:45Speaker 1: half court. The half court marker than you are right there.
- 39:49Speaker 1: It was a really weird place to stand and you
- 39:53Speaker 1: gotta give him room, dude. But he went down came back,
- 39:57Speaker 1: you know, thank god. But uh, let's see Randall checked
- 40:03Speaker 1: back in, so you're like, okay, we're good. And it
- 40:06Speaker 1: was like thirty three to twenty eight under five minutes
- 40:08Speaker 1: in the second. Nas hit his first field goal at
- 40:14Speaker 1: that point, and that's right around the time Ant kind
- 40:17Speaker 1: of like bounces back and twists his ankle because he
- 40:21Speaker 1: kind of like suddenly stopped because the guy was behind him,
- 40:25Speaker 1: and he just kind of bent his ankle, like I said,
- 40:27Speaker 1: two times at a short amount of time where you
- 40:29Speaker 1: almost did it and then you did. It's kind of weak,
- 40:32Speaker 1: but they did make a nice run to close. I
- 40:36Speaker 1: think the second was twenty nine to eighteen, so it
- 40:38Speaker 1: was forty nine to thirty seven. Aunt back in the
- 40:40Speaker 1: game and you're like, okay, here we go. Rudy had
- 40:45Speaker 1: got another end one because he had one earlier in
- 40:47Speaker 1: the game, had a really easy early dunk two. Ant
- 40:52Speaker 1: was already up to eighteen points. He was very Him
- 40:54Speaker 1: and Rudy were very efficient last night. Black Shots was
- 40:59Speaker 1: another one that that really stood out Jayden had a
- 41:02Speaker 1: block and then he had a steal and a dunk.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Nas was kind of like he had these moments where
- 41:11Speaker 1: he's playing good, but there he got this really kind
- 41:13Speaker 1: of bad fall and then gets beat on a play
- 41:16Speaker 1: for a for a bucket. He's been kind of up
- 41:19Speaker 1: and down. That's another thing that I'll mention too in
- 41:24Speaker 1: a little bit. But they they got their stuff together,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and you know, I think in the third they were
- 41:33Speaker 1: at one point ten to fifteen the tim rolls from
- 41:36Speaker 1: the from the field, but they were eleven eighteen eleven
- 41:38Speaker 1: of eighteen overall, Nas up to thirteen points. He had
- 41:43Speaker 1: this nice little fake pass layup Dante. He was struggling, man.
- 41:49Speaker 1: He struggled last night really really bad. But they're up
- 41:52Speaker 1: by ten. Rudy had a nice catch and kind of
- 41:55Speaker 1: waited for the defense to clear in a in a
- 41:59Speaker 1: dunk and then he had a driving layup where you're like,
- 42:01Speaker 1: oh shit, what are you doing? You know, I little
- 42:03Speaker 1: eighteen oh run that turn into a thirteen to two run.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Ant started hitting threes and next thing you know, we're
- 42:10Speaker 1: up by seventeen. Had a lot of turnovers, I'll say that,
- 42:14Speaker 1: but down the stretch, Nah had a great pass to
- 42:17Speaker 1: Rudy for a dunk. I had an n one three pointer.
- 42:22Speaker 1: You know, he was doing his thing too. So yeah, overall,
- 42:28Speaker 1: like they won the game last night, right, so that
- 42:32Speaker 1: that's all we needed to get that dump. That's the
- 42:34Speaker 1: only thing we needed. So and by the way, I
- 42:40Speaker 1: will talk a little bit about Nico is well met dead,
- 42:44Speaker 1: but the you know, these are some of the notes
- 42:46Speaker 1: I made after that little one of three streak, right,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and ant his free throws were increasing at that time,
- 42:56Speaker 1: like and they still are for the most part, whether
- 43:00Speaker 1: he was tired or that hand injury thumb injury was
- 43:03Speaker 1: starting to mess with the shooting. It did. And just
- 43:06Speaker 1: the other night, I think it was actually last night,
- 43:08Speaker 1: he said in God, I can't remember who tweeted that.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's tribbly John, but he said, you know that three
- 43:14Speaker 1: point shots coming back, So you know he is starting
- 43:17Speaker 1: to have that come back. I'd say, you know, the
- 43:20Speaker 1: fact he definitely needs to finish at the rint better,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I will say that. And he's been going to the
- 43:27Speaker 1: basket a lot more at times in drawing falls. And
- 43:31Speaker 1: you know he's had some games that were like you know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: eighteen and twenty one, didn't he have twenty or twenty one.
- 43:38Speaker 1: One of those games trips to the free throw line,
- 43:41Speaker 1: but his three has been struggling lately, so you'd like
- 43:44Speaker 1: to see him a little bit more effective at the rim.
- 43:47Speaker 1: His shot selection is still a shot selection, but I
- 43:50Speaker 1: have it has been nice to see him get to
- 43:54Speaker 1: that free throw line more, no doubt about that. And
- 43:58Speaker 1: we'll see ultimately in the playoffs or some of these
- 44:01Speaker 1: other teams coming up. We saund a little bit in
- 44:03Speaker 1: that Denver game, if you know, teams do push us offensively,
- 44:08Speaker 1: kind of in defensively, making you know, making us really
- 44:12Speaker 1: play the whole time, but especially pushing that ball even
- 44:15Speaker 1: after makes. We'll see if that kind of blends into it,
- 44:18Speaker 1: because that definitely was the case in those two games.
- 44:22Speaker 1: And then you know, of course, I'm going to talk
- 44:24Speaker 1: about where we're at in the seatings. I mean, it's
- 44:28Speaker 1: it's all over the place right now, Like we were
- 44:31Speaker 1: talking about, sixth fifth is on the on the plate now.
- 44:35Speaker 1: But it's gonna be tough. But we'll go over some
- 44:37Speaker 1: of that stuff a little bit later. I did notice, well,
- 44:44Speaker 1: first of all, I have this little thing says no
- 44:47Speaker 1: more back to back losses, and that's just that's just
- 44:50Speaker 1: true because you know that India to New Orleans back
- 44:54Speaker 1: to back, that really sucked, man, and that knocked us down.
- 44:57Speaker 1: But Randall, I have noticed, although I am pretty damn good,
- 45:02Speaker 1: and you can also blame this kind of on the team.
- 45:05Speaker 1: The team turnovers seem to be up, but especially the
- 45:08Speaker 1: assist to turnover ratio from Randall, I'd like to see
- 45:12Speaker 1: that improve a little bit more, maybe, you know, coming
- 45:17Speaker 1: off injury. Even before he got injured, you could see
- 45:20Speaker 1: him passing better. But you know, obviously those first handful
- 45:23Speaker 1: of games, he was averaging a lot of cysts, you know,
- 45:26Speaker 1: and so some of it's maybe just extra pass too
- 45:29Speaker 1: much where it's like naw, dude, you're one on one,
- 45:31Speaker 1: take that guy or whatever. But I have noticed that,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and the defense has kind of gone through some intent.
- 45:38Speaker 1: It's intents, and it's there and then it's not there. Now's,
- 45:42Speaker 1: like I mentioned, has been a little up and down.
- 45:46Speaker 1: This was, you know, before this little mini winning streak
- 45:49Speaker 1: that we got, he had games in the last five
- 45:52Speaker 1: of the six games he had single digit games for
- 45:55Speaker 1: scoring five, eight, eight, nine, and nine, and then if
- 46:02Speaker 1: you look recently, it's kind of been you know, he
- 46:06Speaker 1: has a twenty is a thirteen, but he also has
- 46:08Speaker 1: a seven, so he's been a little little bit up
- 46:11Speaker 1: and down. And Conley, I mean, I saw this tweet
- 46:18Speaker 1: from Dane Moore the last thirty games, right, Conley is
- 46:24Speaker 1: shooting forty nine point six from three sixty four of
- 46:28Speaker 1: up nine. That is just ridiculous. And you know, we
- 46:34Speaker 1: knew the risk stuff contained him. His workouts so not
- 46:39Speaker 1: contained him, but limited him from really doing a full
- 46:44Speaker 1: off season. So we knew that was going to be
- 46:46Speaker 1: you know, once I found out about that, as like, oh, no,
- 46:49Speaker 1: wonder he had such a bad starting season, but it
- 46:51Speaker 1: lasted for a long time. But also something I didn't
- 46:55Speaker 1: know and Chase Uh Frederick, he was talking about, you know,
- 47:05Speaker 1: cortisone injections in his knee from some old knee injury
- 47:10Speaker 1: that was misdiagnosed or whatever. I heard that on the
- 47:12Speaker 1: Dame mor Show. I read it about it too. I
- 47:14Speaker 1: was like, oh wow, so it was even deeper than
- 47:18Speaker 1: deeper than I knew. How how messed up he is,
- 47:22Speaker 1: you know, just body wise, you know. But but he's
- 47:25Speaker 1: been back for quite some time now, and you know
- 47:31Speaker 1: he's he hits big shots. He gets us in the
- 47:34Speaker 1: right spots. It's just we really need him, man. And also,
- 47:40Speaker 1: like I said, you can see Rudy and the squad
- 47:44Speaker 1: is really coming together. You know, we've seen it. Randall
- 47:49Speaker 1: talked about that. I have the quote here someplace. He
- 47:51Speaker 1: talked about, hey, man, get in the dunker spot, dude,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I'll hit you, you know, And so they are. You know,
- 47:58Speaker 1: we've already seen don do that. You know, he can
- 48:04Speaker 1: throw a pretty good oop to him, or just give
- 48:06Speaker 1: him the ball where he needs it, you know. And
- 48:09Speaker 1: the one thing is, you know, what always takes a
- 48:12Speaker 1: while is just one you know, getting in the past
- 48:16Speaker 1: in the right spot because it has to be not
- 48:19Speaker 1: perfect but pretty close to it for being honest. And
- 48:23Speaker 1: then the thing is, and this is ever since he's
- 48:27Speaker 1: been here, like sometimes when you're not getting the ball doom,
- 48:31Speaker 1: he'll get frustrated, of course, like we've seen many at times,
- 48:34Speaker 1: but he does have a point to that at times.
- 48:38Speaker 1: And on the flip side though, it's like, well I'll
- 48:40Speaker 1: catch the ball more and people will you know, we'll
- 48:43Speaker 1: trust you more. But it's the fact of not so
- 48:48Speaker 1: you're not getting the ball doom right, and then you
- 48:51Speaker 1: force it to him, and that's where that's where it
- 48:54Speaker 1: all goes off the track at that point. But here's
- 48:58Speaker 1: the Randall saying the Rudy I tell his ass all
- 49:02Speaker 1: the time, Rudy getting the dunker. If you getting the dunker,
- 49:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna find you when we play. When Rudy plays
- 49:08Speaker 1: like that too, we're a tough team to beat. And
- 49:10Speaker 1: it's true, man, we're really taking advantage of him. I mean,
- 49:15Speaker 1: like I said, he had a he had a game
- 49:17Speaker 1: where it was like eight dunks in the freaking game,
- 49:20Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of offensive rebounds. He's you struggling
- 49:25Speaker 1: a little bit or a pair amount actually earlier in
- 49:29Speaker 1: the season with that, you know, with rebounding and which
- 49:33Speaker 1: is kind of sounds crazy, but he's really tightened that up.
- 49:38Speaker 1: He's tighten that up. And another guy, McDaniels, Kyle t
- 49:42Speaker 1: He had a stat about McDaniel's rebounding. During his first
- 49:46Speaker 1: four seasons combined two hundred and eighty four games, McDaniels
- 49:51Speaker 1: tallied eight rebounds nineteen times out of all those years
- 49:56Speaker 1: four years, and he has he's tallied twenty four eight
- 50:02Speaker 1: rebound games this year. Wow, that is a huge, he says,
- 50:06Speaker 1: huge development. Yeah, that is big. That is really big.
- 50:13Speaker 1: But yeah, like there's these stats here and I don't
- 50:17Speaker 1: what is it fifteen comeback victories of ten plus this season,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and weren't we just down by that in some other
- 50:25Speaker 1: game too? I mean, you know, so we can come back,
- 50:28Speaker 1: no doubt. You don't want to have shitty starts too
- 50:30Speaker 1: many times in a row, obviously, and just the kind
- 50:33Speaker 1: of you know, we're in April now, obviously, but like
- 50:39Speaker 1: we were first in steels there for a while. We're
- 50:42Speaker 1: very efficient the points per game, like I mentioned, the
- 50:46Speaker 1: offense and defensive ratings, Like March was one of our
- 50:49Speaker 1: best marches. It really was. I mean, we we put
- 50:53Speaker 1: it all together. And there was this other stat that
- 50:58Speaker 1: Mackie on Twitter shared. Here are the the best ten
- 51:05Speaker 1: teams in the NBA net rating minus garbage sheims since
- 51:09Speaker 1: early January, and we were fourth Oklahoma City, Boston, Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit,
- 51:15Speaker 1: the Clippers, Denver, Houston, Indiana, and Golden State. That kind
- 51:19Speaker 1: of lines up. That pretty much lines up. Let's see,
- 51:26Speaker 1: do you? Oh yeah? So Horton the other day said,
- 51:30Speaker 1: it feels like the Wolfs have played a lot of
- 51:32Speaker 1: close games this season, NBA games decided by three points
- 51:35Speaker 1: or less. We have twenty two of them. Atlanta has sixteen,
- 51:39Speaker 1: Brooklyn has fifteen, Charlotte has fifteen. Seven of those twenty
- 51:44Speaker 1: two have been one point games, the most in the NBA,
- 51:47Speaker 1: most in the season franchise ever. Yeah, that's that's that's crazy, dude.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was like that, man. And then
- 51:58Speaker 1: speaking of comebacks, it's still that stat now from ever
- 52:02Speaker 1: since Finch got here, we have fourteen comebacks, right, ten
- 52:08Speaker 1: if you're down ten points in the fourth quarter. Okay,
- 52:12Speaker 1: in his in his five seasons as it coach, really
- 52:14Speaker 1: four full he has fourteen of them, fourteen comebacks, right.
- 52:20Speaker 1: So in those previous you know, down by ten and
- 52:24Speaker 1: the fourth we were fourteen in one away. The previous
- 52:29Speaker 1: fourteen season we were fourteen and five forty two. For reference,
- 52:35Speaker 1: the league average over the last twenty years has been
- 52:38Speaker 1: five point six percent of those games. So that was
- 52:41Speaker 1: two point five the fourteen season before, percentage wise eleven
- 52:46Speaker 1: and a half like that. That's what the the fourteen
- 52:51Speaker 1: so far he's at. That's crazy, man, that is crazy. Also,
- 52:57Speaker 1: after that Denver win, the Wolves had clinched a winning
- 53:01Speaker 1: road record for the second straight season. They've had a
- 53:05Speaker 1: winning road record just three times, three times in franchise
- 53:09Speaker 1: in thirty four years. Oh my god. Charlie Walton's a
- 53:13Speaker 1: great follow By the way, the Wolves are second best
- 53:17Speaker 1: with a nine and ten league wide, or they're nine
- 53:21Speaker 1: to ten in league wide games where they're not the favorite.
- 53:25Speaker 1: So yeah, that's that's good and bad. But in the
- 53:29Speaker 1: clutch time basically the last five minutes of regulation and
- 53:34Speaker 1: then the both overtimes, Anthony Edwards. I gave him some
- 53:38Speaker 1: shit for some of the decision making, but nineteen points,
- 53:42Speaker 1: eight of eleven, hit three out of six, he's plus seven.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Two of the biggest shots were those back to back
- 53:50Speaker 1: threes with two minutes left out. Those were huge, man,
- 53:52Speaker 1: those were huge. So but just going off like some
- 53:58Speaker 1: of the standings and where we're it's it's a lot,
- 54:02Speaker 1: it's a lot. You know, we'll definitely get into some
- 54:05Speaker 1: of that and see where everybody's at, you know, when
- 54:09Speaker 1: it comes to that. Let's see here. Yeah, I've heard
- 54:19Speaker 1: you talked Rudy. He's the last five, six, seven games,
- 54:21Speaker 1: he's been awesome. Alexander Walker just a valuable asset, just
- 54:25Speaker 1: playing great. This guy's made a lot of money here
- 54:29Speaker 1: in the last little bit. Let's Let's let's say that,
- 54:34Speaker 1: as I mentioned, Aunt was passing pretty well, fairly well
- 54:36Speaker 1: against Denver when they're blitzing them and all that. What
- 54:42Speaker 1: else we got here? Oh, here's a crazy stat. I
- 54:48Speaker 1: heard this from Britt on the Dame Warren podcast. Their
- 54:52Speaker 1: last one together. Conley had five assists in overtime. In
- 54:57Speaker 1: the two overtimes he had five assists in the he
- 55:00Speaker 1: only took one shot. It was a make So that
- 55:03Speaker 1: kind of tells you something about that that kindly guy.
- 55:07Speaker 1: He's really him and Rudy are really clicking right now, man,
- 55:11Speaker 1: And that's just perfect timing. So you know, we got
- 55:15Speaker 1: a four game winning streak, could we There's five games left? Right?
- 55:22Speaker 1: You have tomorrow at Philly, who you know now has
- 55:28Speaker 1: lost another player for the rest of the year or
- 55:32Speaker 1: he's not gonna play anymore. Maybe not lost for like
- 55:35Speaker 1: he's he's hurt for six months. But so there's no
- 55:40Speaker 1: excuse not to win that game. Tuesday at Milwaukee, which
- 55:44Speaker 1: once again you get Monday and Sunday off, but really
- 55:49Speaker 1: Sunday Monday. That's that's the order, isn't it. At Milwaukee?
- 55:53Speaker 1: Now that's gonna be tough. Is Dame back? Either way?
- 55:57Speaker 1: It's tough. Milwaukee's tough. They got a lot of good players,
- 56:00Speaker 1: a tough matchup. Then Thursday at Memphis, who has struggled
- 56:05Speaker 1: a lot. Still don't know why they fired their coach.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Maybe it got that bad, but while you were like
- 56:12Speaker 1: the fourth in the West or something. So we do
- 56:17Speaker 1: our last back to back at Memphis and then home
- 56:21Speaker 1: Brooklyn and then a two thirty Utah game in Brooklyn, Utah.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Both those teams do not want to win those games.
- 56:29Speaker 1: So we do have a back to back, but we
- 56:31Speaker 1: got to take care of business. But obviously at Milwaukee
- 56:34Speaker 1: and at Memphis is going to be the toughest, right
- 56:38Speaker 1: So will we go five and zero and that would
- 56:41Speaker 1: be our longest streak nine wins whatever, it was our
- 56:44Speaker 1: longest eight before. Right well, they go four and one.
- 56:49Speaker 1: I'm kind of like, that's kind of where I'm at
- 56:51Speaker 1: right now. I think they're going to go four and one.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Or hate to say it, because you know this team
- 56:57Speaker 1: as well as I do. This year, win a few.
- 57:00Speaker 1: If you win, if you lose a few, lose a
- 57:02Speaker 1: game you shouldn't. I'm not a I'm knocking on wood. Okay,
- 57:07Speaker 1: I'm knocking on some wood, but don't count out three
- 57:11Speaker 1: and two. I'm just trying to get you emotionally ready
- 57:14Speaker 1: for it. Okay, don't you dare count that out. No,
- 57:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna go four and one. I think they'll close
- 57:21Speaker 1: four and one. On the season, Matt has a good
- 57:26Speaker 1: chance of getting them out of the plan. And you know,
- 57:32Speaker 1: if you're if you're in seventh place at the end
- 57:35Speaker 1: of the season, you do get at least one home game.
- 57:39Speaker 1: If you lose it, you get another home game. But
- 57:42Speaker 1: as we know, it just sucks, like if you if
- 57:45Speaker 1: you get the A spot, you know, you you're playing
- 57:48Speaker 1: on a Thursday or Friday, and then like forty eight
- 57:50Speaker 1: hours later you're like, all right, now you're going to
- 57:52Speaker 1: a seven game series. You know. So if you can
- 57:55Speaker 1: just the fifth spot's nice and all that. And you know,
- 57:59Speaker 1: we could sit there and say, well, technically the horse
- 58:01Speaker 1: bots open and you know, blah blah blah. But just
- 58:06Speaker 1: getting the sixth spot and above would do it, you know,
- 58:10Speaker 1: it really really would. It would be so great. I
- 58:14Speaker 1: mean that would be crazy. And honestly, if you look
- 58:19Speaker 1: at the Hasawa, someone posted the games through March thirteenth, right,
- 58:25Speaker 1: and how different it looks like Memphis was second, Houston
- 58:31Speaker 1: was fifth, right, and then you look through it through
- 58:36Speaker 1: April second, they're eighth. Now you know, it's just in
- 58:41Speaker 1: Houston second. Like I'm not saying we're gonna get second, right,
- 58:46Speaker 1: but when you look at the other teams, obviously we
- 58:48Speaker 1: do play Memphis straight up. Now they've lost, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 1: they lost the Cleveland no big deal, beat Miami, lost
- 58:54Speaker 1: the Sack Portland, the Clippers, bet Utah, then lost four
- 58:59Speaker 1: in a row. Most of those. Yeah, they're all good teams. Okay,
- 59:02Speaker 1: see La Boston and Golden State. They did sneak out
- 59:07Speaker 1: a win last night, so they've been struggling. But they
- 59:15Speaker 1: just beat Miami. Not they're not world beatiers as we know.
- 59:18Speaker 1: But they have to go at Detroit. Then they play Charlotte,
- 59:22Speaker 1: then they play US. Then on a back to back
- 59:28Speaker 1: there they played Denver and then Dallas, who actually showed
- 59:32Speaker 1: a little bit of life. I don't know if they
- 59:34Speaker 1: will you know, on the last game of the season,
- 59:37Speaker 1: but they have to play Detroit US in Denver. Okay,
- 59:41Speaker 1: so that's that's pretty good. As we know, Golden State's
- 59:46Speaker 1: been playing better. They play Denver to not tomorrow or tonight, someday,
- 59:51Speaker 1: they play Houston, Phoenix, you know, San Antonio, Portland, but
- 59:56Speaker 1: then they closed with the Clippers. So Denver, Houston and
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: the Clippers. That's pretty tough, man. And then the Clippers
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: they gonna play Dallas back to back. Maybe they lose
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: one of those games, I don't know, but then they
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: play San Antonio, eh, Sacramento, whatever, but then Houston in
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Golden State. So you know, the Timberwolves definitely have like
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: the least I'm gonna I'm not gonna say easiest, Okay,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: the least difficult schedule remaining. They just do. So I'm
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: gonna say forn won, I want him to go five
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: and oh that would be phenomenal, but I think foreign
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: one will keep us out, and obviously the Memphis one
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: is very important. That's that's pretty easy. Here's a little
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: quote from Rudy Gobert. I feel like I'm telling you a
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: story like it's storytined from Rudy Gobert. I'm gonna do
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: it in a French accent. I'm just kidding. We are
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: the biggest we are our biggest opponent. We get a
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: little complacent when people start saying we're good, and when
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: the odds are with us, that's when we're not as good.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: It happened last year in the playoffs. The odds had
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: us losing the first two series. Then the second we
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: win those the second all of a sudden, Oh you're
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: gonna beat Dallas. Boom. You know, so we gotta keep
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: that mentality, man, we gotta keep that mentality real quick.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Joe Schmidt, retiring sports director for KSTB Channel five, shouts
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: out to you, Joe, SMI had a great career. I've
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: been paying attention to you since I was a kid. Okay.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: We also got some pretty good news that we knew
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: was gonna happen, just like we know that the sale
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: is going to go through in the NBA, right, But
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: technically I hear people saying, well, officially now officially, Mark
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Lori and Alexander Rodriguez are the owners of the Wolf
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: in the Links, but actually not officially just yet if
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: we're being official about it, right, if we're being technical
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: about it. But it's gonna happen, It's gonna happen. It's
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: it's definitely gooda. It's gonna get approved. So you know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: he had a little appeal potential he would have had
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: to was it was it a federal case, and then
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: he could have challenged it state wise or was that
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: vice versa, I can't remember, but either way he would
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: have to prove that, you know, I don't know what
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: he'd have to prove. Just doesn't make sense to me.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: So it never did. But I did read the Athletic
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: John today and he said win the two. Obviously, Robertguees
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: and Lori take over control of the teams. They're expected
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: to be aggressive about the gates, and they were aggressive
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: when they were just co owner or like partial owners,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I guess you could say. In addition to using the
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: last year to prepare themselves financially for the transition, they
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: have been working on plans for the new arena to
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: replace Target Center, second oldest building in the league behind
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Madison Square Garden. Keeping the team in Minnesota, they said
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: numerous time, is their plans, so yeah, that they're going
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: to keep it here. They're keeping it here, just so
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: you know. A crazy stat I saw on stat muse
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: there have been two sixty point games this season. Both
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: of them were losses, and both of them were to
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: the Wolves. I forgot all about that, So obviously, you
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: know it's time to retire KG obviously, and hopefully hopefully
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: KG wants to join in some former fashion. You know,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: I heard about like the Minneapolis Farmers Market as a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: potential area. I've heard about a couple of couple of areas.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Most of them have been well, a couple of them
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: are in the burbs. I'd rather keep it downtown. I
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: like having all the stuff downtown. I mean, when I
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: was a kid, the met Center was where the mall was,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: and technically the you know, there was a stadium that
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: with the Twins and the Vikings played at all in
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: the same place, right right by the Maldenburg obviously, but
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: we'll see. But now that you know the backing that
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: they have, I mean, I'm not a fan per se
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: of Bloomberg, but as far as business goes, yeah, my
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: guess is they they're gonna sell that. And then there's
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: like an ex Google I can't remember his name off
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the top of my head, but like an ex Google executive.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: My guess is they're going to sell that to them,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: you know, some of that to them, and use that
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: money to to invest and build the arena, because they've
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: always talked about it privately building it, which I wouldn't
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: doubt if we kick something in once they prove they're
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: going to privately do it, but that would be phenomenal.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I mean, if they privately funded, who's gonna complain, then
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: you know that'd be great. And the energy just everything,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: like any everything around this franchise is on the up
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: and up, man, and it feels great. And you we'll
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: see where this season goes once again to the playoffs.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: We're in the We're gonna be in the playoffs. But well,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: you know, I say that, but if you're the if
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: you're the seventh or eighth, you might you know, there
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: is that there is that shot that we don't do it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: So real quick. To end the show, Nico Medven returns home.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: So we got another home home boy, like a lot
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: of people like to say, And that's not any kind
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: of weird angle there. He's from here. He was a
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: boy here. You know. Ben Johnson obviously was from here
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: as well. Well. Shouts out to Ben Johnson. You know,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: it was a tough run for him. Last year was
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: such a key year and had they have finished that
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: season better, he might have a job right now. I
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: don't know, but it I don't know. It does sound
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: like the NL is in a lot better shape now,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: not just from people giving it to him, but a
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: lot of it has to do with Actually, I think
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Monday is that House bill that'll pass. I think it's
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: this Monday. Anyway, we're gonna have more money. And the
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: way Coyle's talking about it, the athletic director, he's talking about,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: we're gonna be in the top third when it comes
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: to that, and this is a six year deal. It's
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: funny because Furman Drake Colorado State and now here. He's
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: been an assistant coach at all stops, which is a
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: good sign. They liked you as assistant, they brought you back.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: You know. The point is, what is he fifty one?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: He has a lot of coaching experience. And the thing
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: about Ben Johnson, he never was a head coach. He
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: had two really good stops at Marquette in Nebraska if
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I remember correctly, and he's a hell of a career
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: recruiter then, and he's a hell He was a hell
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: of a recruiter here, he really was. He got us
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: a lot of talent a lot of times, you know,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: the best player in the state didn't come here and
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: stuff like that. Dude, it's so hard in basketball to
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: get the top player, man, because if Duke or North
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Kaka Laker, one of these major programs come calling, it's tough. Man.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: It is tough anyway, you know, for him to have
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I think twelve years of being a head coach Furman,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: he was a head coach for a while. I think
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: it was just one maybe two. I think it was
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: just one year maybe two at Drake helped turn that
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: around and then got the Colorado State job. In three
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: out of the last four years they were in the tournament,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: they were, you know, a crazy shot away from being
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: in the sweet sixteen. I'm really excited. I think it's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: a great hire. Only one of the recruits are staying.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: That's not the craziest thing nowadays. I guess that Parker
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: dude said the fit didn't work for him or whatever.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: We have done a little recruiting. I'm not going to
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: get too much into the recruiting and who we're bringing
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: in just yet because I've kind of wanted to assemble
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: more and then I can get my full take on it.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: But it does. He did bring an assistant coach, Brian
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Cooley with him from Colorado State and Dave Thorson, who
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: was previously here and they coached too before, so it
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: was jailing John Crocker Johnson, He's coming over. That's the
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: big one that's coming over from Colorado State. And then
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: there's another dude who came over who's from here to
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: a center, I believe, But like I said, I don't
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: want to get to its a mote, bj a mote
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: or whatever. Washington and Oklahoma State and Iowa a couple
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: of other teams are after him, but we'll get into
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: that once they built the roster in general, but I
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: think it's a great hire, really great hire. And like
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: I said, to have twelve years as a head coach,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: and you know, he went to a small school in Furman,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: and it's crazy that he was a manager here. And
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: you know, I remember him in this interview talking about
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: how Clem you know, got him an invite to this
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: abc D camp. Because back in the day, it was
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: a you existed, but at least in the Midwest, people
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: just called it traveling traveling basketball. It was like a
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: step up from your you know, normal basketball, so like
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: your local basketball team, right, and so it was traveling.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: But then you'd have these camps in the summer before
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: a you blew all the way up. This is back
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: in my day, and and it's just crazy that he
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: went full circle because technically he was here with Munson
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: for a year, I think as an assistant coach. But
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: when you have that, he's fifty one, dude, he's been
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: an assistant coach like a what four different stops, five
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: different stops, and you know this is this will be
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: his fourth program, like I said, Furman for a while,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: one year at Drake, maybe two. I think it's just one.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: And then Colorado State. And the thing about Colorado State
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: is they won the conference last year. They in that conference,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: the Mountain West. I think if you're a buck right now,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: it's one of the better, if not lately been the best.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: They had a better display in the tournament, the big
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: tournament this year or last year they didn't. San Diego
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: State made it out of there not long ago. My
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: point is the Mountain West for a mid majors legit,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: so he has legit coaching Chops and now it's like
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: he's fully developed as a fifty one year old to
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: come here. So I think it's I'm really happy with it.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: We'll see where it goes, but I'm gonna get out
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: of here. I Am going to let the rest of
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: this season play out and then do a show basically
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: before the series start. You know, I'm hopeful, right, Obviously,
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: we may have to do like a certain show sometime
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: that just is a weird time frame, just because I
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: won't know if we're in the plane or not, or
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: it's too early to tell. If i'd be like, hey,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: on this Monday, I'm gonna do the show. So I
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: will do one before we start our playoff series. But I,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: like I said, I'm guessing my guess is four and one,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: and I hate to say it, but if I had
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: to lean five and oh or three and two, I
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: hate to say it. Okay, I hate to say it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I would say three and two. But I'm gonna go
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: four and one to close out the year and that
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: should do the trick. Anyway, I'm gonna get out of here.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: You guys enjoy the rest of the regular season, and
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: hopefully we got a lot of good news, all right. Anyway, Peace,
