- 0:09Story by Gil Muntin and illustrated by Tim Archibald.
- 0:15A long time ago, in the land of animals, it was always night.
- 0:22It was quiet dark all the time. And animals had a hard life as they hit bumping into things.
- 0:30I don't like this at all, blind fox. I can't seem to find my lunch.
- 0:36What I need, he said to himself, is a good path to help me.
- 0:41But who shall I pick? In the end, he decided Kestrel, with her strong wings and her good sight.
- 0:52The next day, Kestrel said to Fox, in the land of humans, there is a bright light, Kate told me.
- 1:02Shall we go and steal it? So off they went, Kestrel gliding on her wide green
- 1:10wings, while Fox trotted along the track.
- 1:14Twice they saw bright flashes of lightning. That must be delight, Box said with a smile.
- 1:21Delight guided them to a camp of five tents.
- 1:26Men cooked fish with spicy fried rice, and their wives and children ate slices of rabbit pie.
- 1:35It was a fine tie that smells
- 1:38nice said kestrel this must be the land of humans fox was looking at the big
- 1:44box almost hidden behind a pile of pine logs what's inside it do you think yes
- 1:53kestrel spotted the chink in the box,
- 1:57I think it might be the light, she said.
- 2:01Let's hide until the men go to sleep, said Fox.
- 2:04We can lie behind that cowl of lads.
- 2:09They will grab the box of light.
- 2:11What a prize, and that's what they did.
- 2:15On the way back, Kestrel had to rest for a while.
- 2:21Fox sat beside the fox as he slept.
- 2:26When she slept he kept looking at the box he sniffed the lid he untied the lid
- 2:33and peeked into the box But the lid slipped right off and a bowl of white light
- 2:39shot up into the blackness of the night.
- 2:45Fox had shut a fright that he shook Kestrel's wing until she sat up.
- 2:52Fetch the light back, he said.
- 2:54So Kestrel took a long flight, 9, 10, 11 miles, so hard that she went out of sight.
- 3:03But she didn't catch the bright light.
- 3:07This story was a happy ending. The bright light was the sun.
- 3:11Fox had set it free and it stayed high up so that it could shine on all the
- 3:18animals as well as the humans.
