- 0:00Speaker 1: Just over two weeks to go till the NFL Draft,
- 0:02Speaker 1: and today we're talking about the offensive line.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 0:05Speaker 3: We're the thirty thirty Big, the New England Patriots.
- 0:08Speaker 1: What Welcome everybody to Patriots Draft Downtown, presented by bud Light,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Easy to Drink, Easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official
- 0:17Speaker 1: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots, and guys were,
- 0:20Speaker 1: as they said, just over two weeks away to finally
- 0:22Speaker 1: get into we got mock drafts. I think we're all
- 0:24Speaker 1: getting a little bit of draft fatigue, a little bit
- 0:26Speaker 1: of latest news though, to discuss Marty Mapu gets traded
- 0:29Speaker 1: to Houston Paul. Why do they choose to make moves
- 0:31Speaker 1: like this a random two weeks before the draft.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 0:35Speaker 5: I don't have a good answer for you, but I
- 0:37Speaker 5: will say just to you know, specifically with that position.
- 0:40Speaker 5: Obviously they were not happy with the depth because these
- 0:43Speaker 5: guys are not making a tremendous amount of money, so
- 0:45Speaker 5: there's not a lot of cash savings involved. But Jolani Tavai,
- 0:49Speaker 5: Jack Gibbons now Marty Marpou and they only really signed
- 0:53Speaker 5: kJ Britt as a replacement, So I would expect as.
- 0:57Speaker 4: We move into you know two, you said it's two week.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Out, I would expect off ball linebacker at some point
- 1:03Speaker 5: in the draft.
- 1:04Speaker 4: You need some depth guys.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, talk to me. I will give me some off
- 1:06Speaker 2: the ball line day.
- 1:07Speaker 6: Look. Well, I would say that it depends on what
- 1:10Speaker 6: you're trying to do. Are you trying to get somebody
- 1:13Speaker 6: that compliments Robert Splaine or are you trying to get
- 1:15Speaker 6: somebody that replaces Roberts playing because I think a lot
- 1:17Speaker 6: of the guys that they moved on from or depth
- 1:20Speaker 6: players or you know, backups. But if you're drafting somebody
- 1:24Speaker 6: with the top one hundred pick, that's not what you're
- 1:26Speaker 6: projecting that player to be.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So I think that's question number one.
- 1:31Speaker 6: You know, I know that there's a lot of guys
- 1:32Speaker 6: at the top of the draft that people probably get
- 1:34Speaker 6: excited about. Anthony Hill Junior, CJ Allen Rodriguez.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Of course, I think that's.
- 1:41Speaker 6: A little bit high for what they are looking for.
- 1:43Speaker 6: I think this is a pipeline pick, like we keep
- 1:46Speaker 6: talking about it at several different positions, where you're probably
- 1:49Speaker 6: drafting somebody with the idea maybe this year he's the
- 1:52Speaker 6: third guy behind Ellison spline that develops into hopefully a
- 1:56Speaker 6: larger role. So looking at the board, you know, I
- 1:59Speaker 6: think that's what you start to get into third fourth round.
- 2:02Speaker 6: You know, Aiden Fisher, Bryce Boucher from Morgan, you know
- 2:06Speaker 6: those types of players. And then maybe you know, if
- 2:09Speaker 6: you're looking for more of those athletic week side guys,
- 2:11Speaker 6: you know, Kyle Lewis, Harold Perkins, you know.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Somebody like that. So depends on which way you want
- 2:16Speaker 3: to go.
- 2:17Speaker 6: I'll throw one more name that I just think is
- 2:19Speaker 6: a verabel type of player, and that's Jake Goldie from Cincinnati,
- 2:22Speaker 6: who just plays angry, plays with his hair on fire,
- 2:26Speaker 6: plays downhill full tilt. That's an effort and finish, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 6: the dude. The words they always use their effort and
- 2:32Speaker 6: finish and violence. And that's a guy that plays violently
- 2:36Speaker 6: and could probably use some seasoning, you know, in terms
- 2:38Speaker 6: of play, processing and development, that sort of thing. So
- 2:42Speaker 6: having a year behind Robert Splaine to sort of learn
- 2:45Speaker 6: the ropes wouldn't be terrible.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe kJ Brick can play some snaps too. I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you've he's done that a little bit. As some depth batist.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I want to check in with you because we talk
- 2:52Speaker 1: on PU all the time. Where are you at with
- 2:54Speaker 1: this draft?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Who do you like? What's going on? If thirty first? Overall?
- 2:57Speaker 3: For you?
- 2:58Speaker 7: I like Zonjong the edge rusher, but there's only like
- 3:02Speaker 7: I trade up for Sadik. I don't think that's going
- 3:04Speaker 7: to happen. But it's just I think that I just
- 3:05Speaker 7: look back at other drafts, and I think the Patriots
- 3:07Speaker 7: got lucky that we picked early when we did. Like,
- 3:09Speaker 7: there's no really there's some top talent guys, but you
- 3:12Speaker 7: really can't go wrong at thirty one. So I'm thinking
- 3:15Speaker 7: trade backers Ie Young, but be safe.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's tough to figure out at thirty one. I mean,
- 3:19Speaker 1: we've been lamenting it all week. So guys, we're going
- 3:21Speaker 1: to talk offensive line today. That's what the show's about.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Maybe we can set the table up a little bit here, Paul,
- 3:26Speaker 1: because we have talked about it on the shows. Morgan
- 3:28Speaker 1: moses long term need. Perhaps Michael, when you entering in
- 3:32Speaker 1: the last year of his deal, how do you see
- 3:34Speaker 1: that this need here?
- 3:35Speaker 5: So I think it's kind of what Evan's talking about.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Are you specifically looking for someone to start right away
- 3:41Speaker 5: in case you know, something happens to one of your tackles,
- 3:44Speaker 5: or you're looking for depth. So that's where thirty one
- 3:47Speaker 5: comes into play. If you're looking for a guy who
- 3:49Speaker 5: can potentially be a starter, I think you're going to
- 3:51Speaker 5: need to take him there because if you want to
- 3:53Speaker 5: wait till day two or day three, probably you're looking
- 3:57Speaker 5: at at a career back up. Now, I'm not telling
- 4:00Speaker 5: there are no exceptions at tackle. You can get starters
- 4:03Speaker 5: on the interior. So you, Michael, when you situation, Mike,
- 4:07Speaker 5: I think you could get someone you know, they have
- 4:09Speaker 5: all those you know, a couple of fourth round picks,
- 4:12Speaker 5: four sixth round picks. Take a flyer or a two
- 4:15Speaker 5: on offensive lineman, see if you can develop some depth.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, case for thirty one, tackle a thirty one.
- 4:20Speaker 6: I don't want to go too long because I think
- 4:22Speaker 6: I went two hours on the offensive line radio this show,
- 4:25Speaker 6: so we did. Alrighty gonna be a long run. But yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 6: I think that Paul nailed it. Like there's a gap
- 4:30Speaker 6: of talent in a class like this where you know
- 4:33Speaker 6: ianach or Blake Miller, Caleb Blamu. If you want to
- 4:36Speaker 6: put him in there are those ends of the first
- 4:38Speaker 6: round kind of guys.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Then if after those guys.
- 4:41Speaker 6: In terms of tackles, pure tackles, I don't know if
- 4:44Speaker 6: there's going to be another one drafted until the third round,
- 4:46Speaker 6: so you're probably gonna have about, I don't know, a
- 4:49Speaker 6: fifty pick gap between tackles, and then I think once
- 4:52Speaker 6: you get into that next wave in the end of
- 4:55Speaker 6: the third round, you know, Crown over Bowery Bell, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 6: all those guys are going to start off the board
- 5:01Speaker 6: in a short period of time. So to me, it's
- 5:03Speaker 6: either you're going early or you know, you're you're throwing
- 5:07Speaker 6: multiple darts, like you know, give me like two or
- 5:09Speaker 6: three of these guys on Day three and hopefully someone
- 5:13Speaker 6: develops out of that group. You know, going back to
- 5:16Speaker 6: Mike on win Who's draft, That's that's what they did
- 5:18Speaker 6: that year, and they drafted multiple Day three linemen and
- 5:20Speaker 6: they ended up hitting on one of them.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So maybe that's the way they go this time too.
- 5:24Speaker 1: All right, well let's jump into it. Tackles, guards, not
- 5:27Speaker 1: so much centers.
- 5:28Speaker 2: We got it all covered.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Check it out, all right, it long last, it's time
- 5:35Speaker 1: to talk about the offensive line, or, as Evan Lessar
- 5:37Speaker 1: calls it, the most important position in the draft.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Is that correct Evan.
- 5:41Speaker 6: I believe it is, and I think it was the
- 5:43Speaker 6: Patriots for everyone, for everyone. Mike Rabel said it the
- 5:46Speaker 6: other day at the league meetings. The league has a
- 5:49Speaker 6: dearth of offensive line talent right now. And I would
- 5:52Speaker 6: say it's not just the talent itself, it's also developing
- 5:55Speaker 6: that talent once it gets to the NFL level. And
- 5:58Speaker 6: we're at a point in time where I don't even
- 6:01Speaker 6: know if there's five starting caliber players on some teams,
- 6:04Speaker 6: let alone teams that have valuable backups to those players.
- 6:08Speaker 6: So I think this is a league wide issue that
- 6:12Speaker 6: however we do it, I don't know. Mike Rabel would
- 6:14Speaker 6: probably have a better plan than me, but you have
- 6:17Speaker 6: to find a way to not only identify talent better
- 6:22Speaker 6: on the offensive line, but I think more specifically develop
- 6:24Speaker 6: talent better on the offensive line. Because it's it's a
- 6:28Speaker 6: problem and we want to protect these quarterbacks.
- 6:30Speaker 3: They're the lifeblood of the league. They are the most
- 6:33Speaker 3: valuable players in the league.
- 6:35Speaker 6: And when for the Patriots case, you want to protect
- 6:38Speaker 6: Drake May for hopefully the next fifteen to twenty years
- 6:41Speaker 6: of his Patriot career, and it's just a problem that
- 6:44Speaker 6: there's just not enough good guys to do it.
- 6:47Speaker 8: Well, let's talk a little bit about where the Patriots.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Let's talk about all the battle right now. Where they
- 6:51Speaker 1: stand right now. Of course, you know, traded Garrett Bradberry.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Looks like they're going to switch Jared Wilson or to
- 6:57Speaker 1: center as he was probably drafted to do. Signed Elijah
- 6:59Speaker 1: Verretz or Paul who you know has had some injuries,
- 7:01Speaker 1: but if he's healthy, he's ready to go. It could
- 7:04Speaker 1: be a really good player for them. Everybody's saying, well,
- 7:06Speaker 1: Cambell's going to stay at left tackle. But I think
- 7:08Speaker 1: the two issues for me that I kind of look
- 7:10Speaker 1: at are Michael Won you maybe entering the last year
- 7:12Speaker 1: of his deal, depending on what they're going to do.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And then Morgan Moses just with his age. They got
- 7:17Speaker 1: all the games out of him last year. They took
- 7:19Speaker 1: steps to manage him. But as you look at this
- 7:21Speaker 1: position group, PAULI, how do you how do you see
- 7:23Speaker 1: it kind of stacking up as far as need.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Yeah, for the Patriots, I think that the improvements have
- 7:28Speaker 5: been made. I don't think this tackle group doesn't overly impress.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Maybe that's just me, so, like you know, I think
- 7:34Speaker 5: everybody can look at things and come away with different impressions.
- 7:38Speaker 5: I agree with the way you unfolded the.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Whole thing, Mike.
- 7:41Speaker 5: I think that there's some lack of depth, and it's
- 7:44Speaker 5: going to be sooner than later because you know, Morgan
- 7:47Speaker 5: Moses going to be thirty five years old, so he's
- 7:49Speaker 5: not going to play forever. You need someone in the
- 7:52Speaker 5: pipeline at tackle, you know, if it's a swing tackle whatever.
- 7:57Speaker 5: You know, they signed James Hudson, you know, you know,
- 8:00Speaker 5: a potential veteran swing tackle, but certainly no sure thing.
- 8:04Speaker 5: So they could be in, you know, in the market
- 8:07Speaker 5: here early on in the draft to get a tackle.
- 8:10Speaker 5: But as you guys have been telling me for a
- 8:12Speaker 5: couple of weeks now, if you don't get a tackle
- 8:14Speaker 5: in the first round, there's probably not a great candidate
- 8:18Speaker 5: in Day two or certainly beyond at tackle specifically.
- 8:21Speaker 4: So it's a tough needle to thread.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we have seen some mock drafts where you know,
- 8:26Speaker 1: maybe it's a you know, guy like Blake Miller coming
- 8:28Speaker 1: to the Patriots there thirty first overall, and I think
- 8:30Speaker 1: we can kind of make that argument.
- 8:32Speaker 8: I don't know if it's exactly the move that we would.
- 8:34Speaker 2: All want to make.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Chris.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but let's first just kind of mention these guys
- 8:38Speaker 1: up at the top that they're probably not, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 1: going to have a chance at of course, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Mauno a huge player. I mean, and that's kind of
- 8:45Speaker 1: I feel like a theme. There's like a lot of
- 8:47Speaker 1: big dudes. Big it makes you wonder, like are they
- 8:50Speaker 1: athletic enough, can they develop their feet?
- 8:52Speaker 2: That kind of thing.
- 8:53Speaker 8: But I see that as a little bit of a
- 8:54Speaker 8: theme to this class.
- 8:55Speaker 9: Yeah, definitely, I think just the classes. I'm amnas he's
- 8:59Speaker 9: one of those guys, especially at that tackle position, who
- 9:03Speaker 9: is just he's your raw talent guy, Like he's just
- 9:06Speaker 9: gonna carry in a lot of categories there of what
- 9:10Speaker 9: somebody would want. I mean, he's projected top ten pick
- 9:12Speaker 9: in the draft potentially, and you know, someone's gonna get
- 9:15Speaker 9: real lucky with him because I think he's the best
- 9:18Speaker 9: all around off its alignment in this draft.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and a lot of experienced guys to him, and
- 9:22Speaker 1: he's a three year starter of yep.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You know it's you know, they got.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The two Utah guys, he got those his bookends and
- 9:29Speaker 1: Monroe Freeling from Georgia another one. Yeah, you know, I
- 9:32Speaker 1: mean I saw somebody's ranking, say he had him as
- 9:35Speaker 1: the number one overall tackle in this class.
- 9:38Speaker 8: Just you know, for you, how do you see those
- 9:39Speaker 8: guys all kind of stacking up?
- 9:41Speaker 6: So, you know, I think with Monroe feeling, what's interesting
- 9:44Speaker 6: to me with him is that this is really a
- 9:47Speaker 6: guy that has skyrocketed since the fall season to now.
- 9:50Speaker 6: This is a player that didn't have a lot of
- 9:53Speaker 6: starting experience before the fall starts for Georgia last year.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Is printed out of a three deep printer to play
- 10:00Speaker 6: left tackle in the NFL. Like all the measureables, all
- 10:03Speaker 6: the athleticism, all the length, all those different types of things,
- 10:07Speaker 6: But I still think that you're betting a little bit
- 10:10Speaker 6: on upside with the player like that. The guy that
- 10:12Speaker 6: he reminds me the most of is Colton Miller, but
- 10:14Speaker 6: Colton Miller was more of like a back end of
- 10:17Speaker 6: the first round kind of guy. I think what we're
- 10:19Speaker 6: seeing though, is that these tackles and this is another
- 10:22Speaker 6: theme that I think we should bring up with the
- 10:24Speaker 6: tackle specifically, there's a tackle tax in the NFL because
- 10:28Speaker 6: there isn't great depth to tackle most years, guys go
- 10:32Speaker 6: maybe I would say half around to even sometimes a
- 10:35Speaker 6: full round higher than where their talent level might suggest
- 10:38Speaker 6: they should go, because teams are so desperate for any
- 10:42Speaker 6: sort of semblance of talent at that position, and you know,
- 10:45Speaker 6: starting caliber talent.
- 10:46Speaker 3: So I would probably say.
- 10:48Speaker 6: That Monroe Feeling is maybe getting to get overdrafted theoretically,
- 10:54Speaker 6: but his ceiling is immense, his runway is high because
- 10:57Speaker 6: he's younger. So like, this is a guy that in
- 11:00Speaker 6: three or four years could be a top tackle. I
- 11:03Speaker 6: just don't know if he is that right now.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree a lot of the points I
- 11:07Speaker 5: haven't just made just these guys, and you know, you
- 11:09Speaker 5: mentioned all the names. A lot of these guys are
- 11:12Speaker 5: projected to go in the first round. And there is
- 11:14Speaker 5: one thing, Mike that you mentioned that I think is
- 11:16Speaker 5: a common denominator, and that is starting experience, and Freeling
- 11:19Speaker 5: is the one outlier. He only has one year of
- 11:22Speaker 5: starting experience, so maybe you kind of look at that
- 11:25Speaker 5: as a plus for him, like this, you know, this
- 11:27Speaker 5: is still room to grow.
- 11:29Speaker 9: Yeah, I was gonna say, I really don't think the
- 11:30Speaker 9: experience matters too much, Like you mentioned the room to grow, Like,
- 11:33Speaker 9: I think you have a younger guy in Freeling, and
- 11:36Speaker 9: you have an opportunity to really develop him at the
- 11:38Speaker 9: alarm position as you're able to saying like you need.
- 11:41Speaker 3: To develop these guys in a better way.
- 11:43Speaker 9: I feel like that's what a lot of teams that
- 11:44Speaker 9: you get better at and trying to find a place
- 11:47Speaker 9: to do that as important.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mentioned Blake Maryler earlier.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I mean he had fifty four career starts, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 1: six to seven, has all the size, I mean, just
- 11:54Speaker 1: you know, an iron man at that.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Right tackle spot.
- 11:56Speaker 1: He is a I would say common, but you've seen
- 11:59Speaker 1: him pop up at three first overall, I mean it's
- 12:01Speaker 1: specific to him. What do you think of him? How
- 12:03Speaker 1: would he fit in you know as that you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: is he a year one starter or is he a
- 12:07Speaker 1: guy that maybe they could even though he is experienced
- 12:10Speaker 1: and seems.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Pretty close to ready made, could.
- 12:12Speaker 1: He does that make sense to have him, you know,
- 12:14Speaker 1: maybe behind Morganmoses.
- 12:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that he is probably the most polished
- 12:18Speaker 6: player that we're going to talk about in the first round.
- 12:20Speaker 6: You know, Iana Chore, you know low move from Utah.
- 12:23Speaker 6: Those guys are more raw like upside type of prospects.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Blake Miller is already made pro prospect. Now, the one
- 12:30Speaker 6: thing I would say that he could improve on his
- 12:33Speaker 6: play strength and mass on his frame.
- 12:36Speaker 3: He's not a people mover in the run game.
- 12:38Speaker 6: And if you have him on one side and you
- 12:41Speaker 6: have Will Campbell on the other, I think Will Campbell's
- 12:43Speaker 6: going to get bigger and stronger. I think that was
- 12:45Speaker 6: a part of his game at LSU that didn't necessarily
- 12:47Speaker 6: translate right away to the league because of his age.
- 12:50Speaker 6: But still, at the same time, it's not exactly like
- 12:53Speaker 6: you have two very athletic cackles, but you wouldn't necessarily
- 12:55Speaker 6: have two high level people moving tackles. So do they
- 12:58Speaker 6: want that sort of of juxtaposition there where one of
- 13:02Speaker 6: their size is at least a little bit.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Stouter and a little bit firmer.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Blake Miller is one of those guys that has all
- 13:08Speaker 6: the tools in the world and does.
- 13:09Speaker 3: It at a very high level.
- 13:11Speaker 6: In pass protection, he has great range, He blocks with
- 13:13Speaker 6: great past or great balance.
- 13:15Speaker 3: In his past sets, he unlocks his length. Jesus, his
- 13:18Speaker 3: you know length.
- 13:18Speaker 6: They would keep rushers at his fingertips. Can you know
- 13:21Speaker 6: meet the high side rushers, the bendy guys off the
- 13:23Speaker 6: edge with speed? He is a very good pass protector.
- 13:27Speaker 6: He's just not a bulldozer and does that matter to me?
- 13:30Speaker 6: Not as much, but to others it might. You know,
- 13:34Speaker 6: is he going to get walked back into the quarterback
- 13:36Speaker 6: by bull rushers? Is he going to be able to
- 13:38Speaker 6: move people? You know, those are the types of questions
- 13:40Speaker 6: that you have with him. Maybe if you put him down,
- 13:42Speaker 6: you know, on the bench for a year and you
- 13:44Speaker 6: allow him to get into squad.
- 13:46Speaker 4: The old Paul.
- 13:48Speaker 3: His headless chicken.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Sinless chicken, yes, skinless chicken, like, maybe that is what's
- 13:52Speaker 6: best for him, right is to hit the weight room
- 13:54Speaker 6: for a year, learn under more Moses. I would think
- 13:58Speaker 6: Morgan Moses might give him an opportunity to start a
- 14:00Speaker 6: couple of games if he gets dinged up here or
- 14:02Speaker 6: there over the course of the season, so you get
- 14:04Speaker 6: his feet wet. Six offensive line package maybe another way
- 14:07Speaker 6: to get.
- 14:08Speaker 3: His feet wet.
- 14:09Speaker 6: So I like a lot of things about Blake Miller.
- 14:10Speaker 6: He's probably my favorite guy out of the group. We're
- 14:13Speaker 6: going to talk about you just real QUI.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean you mentioned Ianachuur, which we're working on the
- 14:16Speaker 1: pronunciation we on aur.
- 14:19Speaker 2: We think we got it.
- 14:19Speaker 1: It's rolling off our tongue now. But he's another guy,
- 14:22Speaker 1: Paul that and Chris that we you know, kind of
- 14:24Speaker 1: seen some connections to the Patriots, seen him and some
- 14:26Speaker 1: mock drafts slipping into the first round. We saw Mike
- 14:28Speaker 1: Rabel down there at Arizona State tangling.
- 14:31Speaker 2: With him a little bit.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And he's the other end of the spectrum though he's inexperienced.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I mean, he hasn't been playing football very long. He's
- 14:37Speaker 1: more of a soccer kid growing up. I mean, he
- 14:38Speaker 1: didn't come to the US till later in life. So
- 14:41Speaker 1: he's another guy.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Paul.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Did you like him? Was he one of the ones
- 14:43Speaker 2: that euro Okay?
- 14:44Speaker 3: I did.
- 14:44Speaker 5: I did kind of like him, but mostly because of
- 14:46Speaker 5: the profile and you know, you know, Evan kind of
- 14:48Speaker 5: put him on my radar a little bit with the
- 14:50Speaker 5: story of you know, I think he's only played five
- 14:52Speaker 5: years of football, so I do look at the athletic skill.
- 14:55Speaker 5: He's a little bit bigger than something. You know, I'm
- 14:57Speaker 5: just looking. You know, Fano, Lo, Miller and Freeling are
- 15:01Speaker 5: all three eleven, three thirteenth. You know, he's like a
- 15:04Speaker 5: good three twenty one. He's a little bit bigger, a
- 15:07Speaker 5: little bit more girth, and I think that kind of
- 15:09Speaker 5: helps because I think what we're talking about worried about
- 15:12Speaker 5: getting you know, walked back into the quarterback and holding
- 15:15Speaker 5: up and you know, having the athleticism to protect the
- 15:19Speaker 5: edge while also having the bulk to you know, prevent
- 15:22Speaker 5: against the bowl rushers.
- 15:23Speaker 4: I do think that when Evan talks about max no
- 15:30Speaker 4: no max.
- 15:32Speaker 5: It there is some room to grow there because he
- 15:34Speaker 5: is a little bit new to the game.
- 15:35Speaker 4: So I'm intrigued by that.
- 15:37Speaker 5: That doesn't mean I'm looking to take him at thirty one,
- 15:40Speaker 5: you know, like I this That's why I said it's
- 15:42Speaker 5: a tough needle to threat to balance.
- 15:44Speaker 4: But I just feel like.
- 15:45Speaker 9: There's a lot of upside with him though, like you mentioned,
- 15:47Speaker 9: with the multiple multiple sports. He uses his agility really well.
- 15:51Speaker 9: And again the bigger body again is a positive. Like
- 15:55Speaker 9: somebody who can move as quickly as he can at
- 15:59Speaker 9: that size and is only to help out in the
- 16:01Speaker 9: run game and get down get downfield. You know, these
- 16:03Speaker 9: are things that I think the Patriots were lacking a
- 16:05Speaker 9: little bit last year of just somebody or people that
- 16:09Speaker 9: can help get to the second level and help burst
- 16:11Speaker 9: out these runs and good athlete, those are all important.
- 16:16Speaker 6: He is a highly impressive player to me because he
- 16:20Speaker 6: really doesn't know what he's doing yet. Yeah, and he's
- 16:23Speaker 6: still able to block people at a pretty high level.
- 16:26Speaker 6: His tap against Texas Tech, where they have David Bailey
- 16:28Speaker 6: and Romelo Height, two guys that are going to be
- 16:30Speaker 6: playing Sundays. You know, Bailey is going to probably be
- 16:32Speaker 6: a top five, top ten pick in the draft. He
- 16:34Speaker 6: had two hurries the entire game against those two guys strong,
- 16:38Speaker 6: so he held up really well against the two of them.
- 16:41Speaker 6: He has great core strength to great ability to anchor.
- 16:44Speaker 6: It's just a lot of the little details. You know,
- 16:47Speaker 6: his footwork is a little bit choppy and erratic at times.
- 16:51Speaker 6: His hand placements a little bit erratic at times. You know,
- 16:53Speaker 6: he comes in with wider hands, kind of SAPs his
- 16:55Speaker 6: power that way. He'll step underneath himself and shorten his
- 16:58Speaker 6: corner that way.
- 16:59Speaker 3: With his all these types of things, Doug.
- 17:01Speaker 6: Maron is going to stick his teeth into him and
- 17:03Speaker 6: within half a season, Dougie's gonna.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Have him all ready to go. So like, I'm not
- 17:07Speaker 3: worried about any of that.
- 17:08Speaker 6: I think again, sort of like what we were talking about
- 17:11Speaker 6: with Monroe, feeling in two to three years, there's a
- 17:14Speaker 6: really good chance that Ianichory is going to be the
- 17:17Speaker 6: best tackle out of the group that we're talking about
- 17:19Speaker 6: at the back of the first round. You just have
- 17:21Speaker 6: to have some patience with him as a guy that's
- 17:23Speaker 6: new to football. So if you're looking to draft the
- 17:25Speaker 6: player that has the most immediate you know, set it
- 17:29Speaker 6: and forget it, plug and play, whatever you want to
- 17:31Speaker 6: call it at tackle, that's Blake Miller.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Blake Miller is the plug and play player.
- 17:35Speaker 6: He's the guy that could get drafted at thirty one
- 17:38Speaker 6: in April and be starting for the Patriots week one
- 17:40Speaker 6: in September if need be. If you're looking for development,
- 17:44Speaker 6: upside and down the road potential, that's Ianae or maybe
- 17:48Speaker 6: Lama who might fall to the Patriots too as well.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Both those guys have the higher upside or the higher ceiling.
- 17:55Speaker 9: I just feel like there's a lot of positive with
- 17:57Speaker 9: Morgan Moses also being there ahead of him, like all
- 18:00Speaker 9: of this experience, especially as a larger tackle like somebody
- 18:03Speaker 9: you can kind of carry that type of weight and ability.
- 18:07Speaker 9: I think there's a lot of positive things there that we.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Talk about all the time. It's how used to be
- 18:11Speaker 1: you had guys ready to go. You're training guys now.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Is it too rich?
- 18:15Speaker 1: At thirty first overall to take that developmental kind of guy.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I mean, it's a little bit what they do when
- 18:19Speaker 1: they sold her back in twenty eleven. Different teams, of course,
- 18:22Speaker 1: but you know that that's the philosophy we're looking at.
- 18:25Speaker 1: But let's keep moving down the list here, Paul, to
- 18:27Speaker 1: anybody you know that that that stood out to you,
- 18:30Speaker 1: these these are the guys that you didn't like the
- 18:32Speaker 1: least there No, I mean, I.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Just I just feel like there's I think there's question
- 18:36Speaker 5: marks with all these guys. You know, first of all,
- 18:38Speaker 5: most of them played on the right side, you know,
- 18:40Speaker 5: so that to me is like, why, you know, were
- 18:43Speaker 5: they not good enough to play the left side?
- 18:45Speaker 4: But they're not athletic enough.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Some of them I think have impressive athleticism, Like Max,
- 18:49Speaker 5: I think he's a really good athlete.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I love it.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to go Max.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I or something.
- 18:54Speaker 9: Yeah, actually know Yeah, I think the biggest thing.
- 19:00Speaker 6: On a tour with the tackles, Uh, there is a
- 19:03Speaker 6: wide gap between the guys that we just talked about
- 19:06Speaker 6: as the first round guys and then the guys that
- 19:08Speaker 6: are gonna come And so this is a tackle draft
- 19:11Speaker 6: that has no middle class there's no second round tackle.
- 19:15Speaker 6: There's barely a third round tackle unless you really like
- 19:18Speaker 6: Crown over Jude Bowery down the street at Boston College.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Like those guys have a chance to sneak into the
- 19:23Speaker 6: end of the third round. But there's really no middle
- 19:26Speaker 6: class in this tackle class. So if you're gonna skip
- 19:29Speaker 6: it early, then you're you're playing lottery tickets at the
- 19:32Speaker 6: end of the draft on Day three, is what you're doing. Now,
- 19:35Speaker 6: there's some worthy lottery tickets. Like, you know, I'm a
- 19:38Speaker 6: Bowery guy. Uh, you know, he's probably fringe top one hundred.
- 19:42Speaker 6: You know, there are a lot of people that are
- 19:43Speaker 6: big fans of Mark hel Bell from Miami because he's
- 19:46Speaker 6: just huge. He's Trent Brown, right, go ahead. I mean
- 19:51Speaker 6: he's just giant, eighth inch arm. Yeah, we're not gonna
- 19:55Speaker 6: have to worry.
- 19:55Speaker 3: About that, Yeah, definitely not.
- 19:57Speaker 9: I just think he's got to work in the run game.
- 20:00Speaker 9: Obviously hard. Again, We've said it million times. When you're
- 20:03Speaker 9: that big, it's really hard to get downfield and move
- 20:05Speaker 9: your feet as fast as you can. But for somebody
- 20:09Speaker 9: who's that large and can just use his length and
- 20:12Speaker 9: shield off defenders and just create this beautiful pocket.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I just have a vision for Drake May and just
- 20:19Speaker 3: having this.
- 20:20Speaker 9: Five second yeah, just the five second orshold to make
- 20:24Speaker 9: a make a deep throw. And you know, that's what
- 20:28Speaker 9: I really like about Mark Albell, especially if you try
- 20:30Speaker 9: to go for somebody in that uh day three area,
- 20:34Speaker 9: uh late day two or day three.
- 20:37Speaker 3: But that's kind of my.
- 20:38Speaker 8: Thought for Marco Bill.
- 20:39Speaker 3: He's great.
- 20:39Speaker 6: I think that, you know, in terms of where he's
- 20:41Speaker 6: going to be drafted. I'm not trying to say he's
- 20:43Speaker 6: Joe Thomas, but I think the thing that you worry
- 20:45Speaker 6: about with guys like him is he's upright right, He's
- 20:48Speaker 6: going to have high pads always naturally, he's going to
- 20:51Speaker 6: have leveraging. He's going to be battling his pad level
- 20:54Speaker 6: for his entire NFL career just the way that he
- 20:57Speaker 6: is built. The other thing that you worry a little
- 20:59Speaker 6: bit about, though, guys, and maybe this is just the
- 21:01Speaker 6: Trent Brown of it all, endurance. You know, is he
- 21:04Speaker 6: going to be able to play seventy seventy five snaps
- 21:06Speaker 6: and move that body around for that amount of time,
- 21:09Speaker 6: you know, late in fourth quarters and things like that
- 21:11Speaker 6: when the game is on the line. But if you're
- 21:14Speaker 6: just looking for balls of clay that have this immense
- 21:17Speaker 6: physical talent like we're doing here on day three, which
- 21:20Speaker 6: is upside you know, athleticism traits. That's what we're betting on.
- 21:24Speaker 6: You know, it would be him Issa ah World. Unfortunately
- 21:27Speaker 6: blew out his knee in the college football playoff, otherwise
- 21:30Speaker 6: he would be in this category as well. I'm a
- 21:33Speaker 6: big Diego Ponds fan from Old miss as well. I
- 21:35Speaker 6: think that he can fit this bill too. And then
- 21:38Speaker 6: we sort of get into some of the guys that
- 21:40Speaker 6: I think would be really good swing tackles or guard
- 21:43Speaker 6: tackle flexes down the line, which we can kind of
- 21:45Speaker 6: blur the lines once we start talking about the interior guys.
- 21:48Speaker 3: But I think Mark Elbell.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Jude Bowery, crown Over, those are the guys that you're
- 21:54Speaker 6: looking at ninety five one, twenty five one, thirty one area.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Is that what makes the most sense, like day two,
- 22:01Speaker 1: maybe day two, probably day three to try to get
- 22:03Speaker 1: that developmental tackle. And can you believe that you're gonna
- 22:06Speaker 1: draft the guy in day three like they did last
- 22:08Speaker 1: year and he's going to develop into into a potential
- 22:10Speaker 1: starter in day three? You just think generally speaking, yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 5: No, I don't think you can go into a pick
- 22:18Speaker 5: a guy in day three and think you're going to.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Get a starter at tackle.
- 22:21Speaker 2: No, yeah, yeah, much of a priority.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Yeah, you can get guard.
- 22:25Speaker 5: You can get guards and centers in day three and
- 22:27Speaker 5: they can be tackles, I mean, not starters.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But I don't think you.
- 22:29Speaker 5: I don't think it's realistic too to take a guy
- 22:32Speaker 5: in that late and at tackle. Evans right, there's a
- 22:35Speaker 5: tackle tax and the good ones go early.
- 22:38Speaker 3: That's why I would.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Assume that guys like crown Over and Jude Bowery are
- 22:41Speaker 6: probably going to go in the third even though they
- 22:43Speaker 6: are probably fourth round talents. You know, the tax is
- 22:46Speaker 6: probably going to push them up into the back end
- 22:48Speaker 6: of the third round. You know. The only other guy
- 22:50Speaker 6: that I would just mention as terms of traits is
- 22:53Speaker 6: Travis Burg from Memphis, who's six eight three twenty. Watching
- 22:58Speaker 6: him on film, this guy just absolutely puts people into
- 23:01Speaker 6: the ground. I mean, this is like a consistent I
- 23:04Speaker 6: counted against the tape that he played against Tulane. I
- 23:08Speaker 6: counted like six or seven pancakes. And he just goes
- 23:10Speaker 6: out there and he wants to hurt somebody, like he
- 23:14Speaker 6: wants to put people on the ground.
- 23:15Speaker 3: He wants to finish.
- 23:17Speaker 6: You know, he's gonna have all those issues that we
- 23:19Speaker 6: were talking about with Mark hel Bell. Is he going
- 23:21Speaker 6: to be able to meet the high side speed guys.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Is he going to get be able to get out
- 23:25Speaker 6: underneath and get his hands on those guys? I think
- 23:28Speaker 6: that you're going to have to live in a world
- 23:30Speaker 6: with him where the back and the tight end are
- 23:32Speaker 6: helping him out a lot. When he's facing some of
- 23:33Speaker 6: these dynamic guys off the edge. That's not really starter
- 23:37Speaker 6: caliber to me. But if you know, going in like
- 23:40Speaker 6: we're gonna have to help this guy all the time,
- 23:41Speaker 6: that to me is like more swing tackle backup now.
- 23:45Speaker 6: I don't know right now looking at their depth chart
- 23:47Speaker 6: if they have that, So I think what makes a
- 23:49Speaker 6: lot of sense to me with a lot of these
- 23:51Speaker 6: guys double dipping at this position, I think makes the
- 23:54Speaker 6: most sense out of any position we talk about double
- 23:56Speaker 6: dipping at because there is this dearth of tackle talent
- 24:01Speaker 6: in the middle rounds and they don't really have great
- 24:04Speaker 6: depth behind their starters right now. Even if you want
- 24:06Speaker 6: to develop him into swing tackles like Marcus Bryant, maybe,
- 24:10Speaker 6: But besides that, I think you can afford to put
- 24:13Speaker 6: two rookies in that room and hopefully you get one starter.
- 24:16Speaker 6: But even if you just get a swing tackle out
- 24:18Speaker 6: of it, that's something you don't currently have on the roster.
- 24:20Speaker 6: So if you're gonna wait till day three, let's at
- 24:23Speaker 6: least throw some darts, right, Let's throw a couple of
- 24:26Speaker 6: darts at it on day three instead of just one.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Well, you know, don't don't totally rule out James Hudson.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I mean, I know he did take four penalties in
- 24:32Speaker 1: a row, but you did sign him. But let's move
- 24:35Speaker 1: on to the guard position. And you know, as I
- 24:37Speaker 1: pointed out, at the top, maybe not an immediate need.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Especially Paul, you paid Elijah vera tucker. You're hoping he
- 24:42Speaker 1: can stay healthy and be you know, the quality player
- 24:45Speaker 1: you thought he was when.
- 24:46Speaker 2: The Jets drafted him in the first round.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But I do look at Michael one, you and I
- 24:49Speaker 1: just you know, I went, it makes them a lot
- 24:51Speaker 1: of money. And so I think this you just said
- 24:54Speaker 1: we could probably look at day three. I know we're
- 24:55Speaker 1: going to start up at the top. I like a
- 24:57Speaker 1: lot of these guys, though, I think like there's a
- 24:59Speaker 1: lot of Lowgan Mankins tough guys and there's a great
- 25:02Speaker 1: mullet in there as well.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Who's the guy you like?
- 25:05Speaker 2: You know, I mean I'm gonna start with Kielan Russell Rutledge.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I mean I just thought he was the most mankinsy
- 25:09Speaker 1: of everybody, you know. I know he's probably not the top,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but you know, with IONI and Basants and watch Pregnant
- 25:14Speaker 1: too again, you know, with him and Isaiah World, I
- 25:17Speaker 1: think there are some good options here. But to me, Ruttledge,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I just ranked is the number one at most athletic
- 25:23Speaker 1: guard at the combine. You know, good size link, but
- 25:25Speaker 1: just you can tell him like that one of the
- 25:27Speaker 1: explicians again that that he's a finisher.
- 25:29Speaker 5: But I think if this for the Patriots, very similar
- 25:32Speaker 5: at guard has tackled. You know, you're replacing Morgan Moses
- 25:35Speaker 5: because of age and experience.
- 25:37Speaker 4: You know.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Obviously thirty five Owen, who might just be getting priced out,
- 25:42Speaker 5: like he just got a big money extension.
- 25:45Speaker 4: He's coming to the end of that.
- 25:46Speaker 5: I think he'll be the right guard this year and
- 25:49Speaker 5: then his contract will be up. Generally, you don't make
- 25:52Speaker 5: less as you go on in your career, so will
- 25:55Speaker 5: they be looking for someone in the pipeline.
- 25:58Speaker 4: So again, day two, Day three.
- 26:01Speaker 5: You know guards, you when you in day three, right,
- 26:04Speaker 5: they're in the league all over the place like this
- 26:06Speaker 5: is not like tackle. You have a lot of Day
- 26:08Speaker 5: three guards that you know have very good careers. I
- 26:11Speaker 5: do like your guy Rutledge. I thought there's some upside
- 26:15Speaker 5: there with with Besontas, but he's probably a little bit
- 26:17Speaker 5: higher on the I saw. I don't know where all
- 26:20Speaker 5: these guys are slotted to go in the draft. You
- 26:22Speaker 5: guys are a little bit more up to be with that,
- 26:24Speaker 5: I thought there was some upside there. I think that
- 26:26Speaker 5: guy looks like he can play a little bit, a
- 26:28Speaker 5: little bit.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 3: I also like Jalen Farmer a lot. I can talk you.
- 26:32Speaker 9: I thought he's he's a he's he's kind of a mauler.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Wants some road graders.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Yeah, two year starter too. Yeah, I mean I like
- 26:41Speaker 5: some of the experience of these guys.
- 26:43Speaker 4: A lot of experience.
- 26:43Speaker 9: I think just the strength and his aggressiveness and when
- 26:47Speaker 9: you're kind of being told like hey, like you're gonna
- 26:51Speaker 9: make the play and then like taking breath.
- 26:54Speaker 3: I think that's a great that's a great thing. So yeah,
- 26:56Speaker 3: I really like Jayleen Farmer yeah.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Him and Jeremiah right from and we're the two like
- 27:01Speaker 6: kind of road graders that if you're just trying to
- 27:04Speaker 6: replace mike on one Who with a Mike on one
- 27:06Speaker 6: Who in a year from now, those two guys are
- 27:08Speaker 6: just Mike on one Who, you know, like that they're
- 27:10Speaker 6: both kind of in the same book. You know, I
- 27:13Speaker 6: probably would say I like write a little bit better.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Just think he's a little bit more polished in pass
- 27:17Speaker 6: protection right now. But I like both of those players.
- 27:20Speaker 6: I think what we get to when we get to
- 27:22Speaker 6: guards is there's the guards and.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Then there's the tackles that are going to be guards.
- 27:26Speaker 6: So like now, this to me is a fantastic guard class,
- 27:31Speaker 6: like one of the strong suits at the draft, because
- 27:33Speaker 6: you're taking all the pure guard prospects like you know,
- 27:37Speaker 6: Vega Oane like percentis and like pregnant, and then you're
- 27:43Speaker 6: adding all the college tackles that are going to have
- 27:45Speaker 6: to move inside. Zoom is probably gonna be like a
- 27:49Speaker 6: fourth or fifth rounder that's going to move inside. Austin Barber,
- 27:52Speaker 6: I don't know, he's right on the border of tackle
- 27:56Speaker 6: or guard. Tiering in from Northwestern is gonna move inside
- 27:58Speaker 6: Dunker's gonna move in. So now you cage Casey from
- 28:02Speaker 6: Boise State, it's going to move inside. So you add
- 28:04Speaker 6: all that that group into some of the better pure
- 28:07Speaker 6: guard prospects I've seen in coming out in a couple
- 28:10Speaker 6: of years. And now you have a huge group of
- 28:12Speaker 6: guards that you can kind of pick from. So it's
- 28:14Speaker 6: a fun group. It's one of the more exciting groups
- 28:16Speaker 6: of the draft. Bysontis is awesome. Black guy is going
- 28:19Speaker 6: to be a stud as a pro. Reminds me a
- 28:22Speaker 6: lot of grays Abel coming out. The athleticism, the pass protection,
- 28:26Speaker 6: the movement skill.
- 28:28Speaker 3: You know, Ian is just a malark like that.
- 28:30Speaker 6: You know, he finishes, But I think Bysontes might be
- 28:33Speaker 6: a better pass protector right now than Vega is in
- 28:36Speaker 6: Vegas a hell of a player, So to say that
- 28:39Speaker 6: is pretty good. And then Pregnant, you know, not bad either.
- 28:41Speaker 6: So those are the top guys. Uh, you know, tierning
- 28:44Speaker 6: In and Dunker will come in after that as Day
- 28:46Speaker 6: two players, and then we kind of get into the
- 28:48Speaker 6: third and fourth round and then beyond where I think
- 28:51Speaker 6: there's draftable talent like guys that to Paul's point, you
- 28:54Speaker 6: can get guys like that on Day three that might
- 28:56Speaker 6: be able to start down the line.
- 28:58Speaker 3: This is one of those types of drafts that guard.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 1: DJ Campbell from Texas was one of those guys for me,
- 29:02Speaker 1: so late guy, Yeah, I liked him, you know, had
- 29:04Speaker 1: some good length. Not the biggest guy, but another one
- 29:07Speaker 1: who I just saw some finish in that that I liked.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And then Joshua bron too was another one. Just you know,
- 29:12Speaker 1: it's amazing some of these guys just have such good size,
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, I mean this, I mean Broun's six, six
- 29:17Speaker 1: thirty four and five eights. I mean, you know, to
- 29:19Speaker 1: move those guys inside. I just I wonder what that
- 29:22Speaker 1: looks like for an offense to have that. You know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: it's just been a long time since you I mean,
- 29:25Speaker 1: you went from like Cole Strange to you know, Jared
- 29:27Speaker 1: Wilson isn't the biggest kind of a guy.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But what do you guys think makes sense in this position?
- 29:32Speaker 2: Is this?
- 29:32Speaker 1: Is this a Hey, there's a guy that we love
- 29:36Speaker 1: that we think could you know, I don't know if
- 29:37Speaker 1: he's going to start this year, but yeah, it's the
- 29:39Speaker 1: third round right now, and maybe this is a little
- 29:41Speaker 1: rich for a spot that we're not taking.
- 29:43Speaker 8: It, but we love this guy. Is it crazy to
- 29:45Speaker 8: think they could tap this class.
- 29:47Speaker 6: F that you said, I would say that that for me,
- 29:49Speaker 6: it starts in the fourth round, because I think if
- 29:51Speaker 6: you take a fourth round guy, you know, like one
- 29:54Speaker 6: of the guys Chris and I were talking about, is
- 29:55Speaker 6: probably going to be right in there. If you want
- 29:57Speaker 6: somebody that has a little bit more passed upside, maybe
- 30:01Speaker 6: it's like a cage Casey or Zoom, the guy that
- 30:03Speaker 6: Paul mentioned.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Those guys have.
- 30:05Speaker 6: You know, we're college tackles that are going to move inside,
- 30:08Speaker 6: so they might be a little bit better pass protectors.
- 30:10Speaker 6: But if you draft the guy at one twenty five,
- 30:12Speaker 6: one thirty one, then you make the argument that he
- 30:16Speaker 6: backs up right this year, you know, kind of pushes
- 30:18Speaker 6: Ben Brown in that role, and then next year maybe
- 30:22Speaker 6: he takes over for Mike on Winhu. I think drafting
- 30:24Speaker 6: anybody a little bit higher than that, there's probably other
- 30:27Speaker 6: needs and not necessarily the best, you know, allocation of resources.
- 30:31Speaker 6: But I do think we need to keep in mind
- 30:32Speaker 6: that Elijah Vera Tucker gets hurt. You know, he has
- 30:36Speaker 6: an injury history. Do you trust Ben Brown to be
- 30:39Speaker 6: the guy if he goes down for a long period
- 30:42Speaker 6: of time? And if he does go down and Ben
- 30:45Speaker 6: Brown has to go into the starting lineup, then who's
- 30:47Speaker 6: backing up Ben Brown?
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah? Nobody right now?
- 30:50Speaker 1: Right, I mean, there's there's no depth, I mean, and
- 30:51Speaker 1: that's you know, we're not getting the center just yet
- 30:53Speaker 1: because Terry Wilson, second year Ben Brown, they resign him.
- 30:56Speaker 1: He's got center experience as well. But you know, right now,
- 30:59Speaker 1: Ben Brown's really the only backup for those three spots
- 31:02Speaker 1: everywhere you know.
- 31:03Speaker 2: You need, you need to find a guy.
- 31:05Speaker 1: You know, I'm almost a little surprised they didn't add,
- 31:07Speaker 1: you know, a veteran other than Via Tucker, just to
- 31:09Speaker 1: pad their depth a little bit, you know.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's just important.
- 31:12Speaker 9: You got to give Ben Brown a lot of credit
- 31:14Speaker 9: for what he's been able to do to kind of
- 31:16Speaker 9: come and sort of be this shield for the Patriots,
- 31:19Speaker 9: especially as.
- 31:20Speaker 2: As they jumped right in and like started that week
- 31:22Speaker 2: last year, two.
- 31:23Speaker 9: Years or two years ago, like you just somebody you
- 31:25Speaker 9: can rely on if you need help.
- 31:27Speaker 3: But it's that long term ability that.
- 31:29Speaker 9: You mean, we haven't fully seen Ben Brown, especially at
- 31:32Speaker 9: a different position other than center, where you played a
- 31:34Speaker 9: lot in twenty twenty four. So you know, you want
- 31:37Speaker 9: to see the Patriots maybe start to think about that
- 31:39Speaker 9: a little bit more as we've been talking about.
- 31:41Speaker 1: But yeah, I talked to David Andrews, who sorry, I
- 31:43Speaker 1: talked to David Andrews at the draft party and he
- 31:45Speaker 1: just brought up Ben Brown out of nowhere, just saying,
- 31:47Speaker 1: I really like the player thought he was, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: just I know he's not you know, the man, but
- 31:51Speaker 1: those are valuable guys and it's maybe a spot where
- 31:54Speaker 1: they're a little light right now.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Yeah, the one guy that I would say, like if
- 31:56Speaker 6: they were going to go a little bit higher, like
- 31:58Speaker 6: tearing in from Northwestern interest maybe because I think he's
- 32:02Speaker 6: probably a little bit too small to play tackle. He
- 32:04Speaker 6: had thirty two in a quarter inch arms, so he's
- 32:06Speaker 6: not he's below the threshold, but he's got tackle feet,
- 32:10Speaker 6: he's got a tackle feel. Is he a type of
- 32:12Speaker 6: guy that is going to play guard? But in a pinch,
- 32:15Speaker 6: if you had injuries or something, you could kick him
- 32:18Speaker 6: outside and he could.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Survive out at tackle.
- 32:21Speaker 6: So maybe he would give you some of that, Like
- 32:23Speaker 6: he's a starting guard, but he's our backup right tackle
- 32:26Speaker 6: and that flexibility might be enough. You know, Dunker I
- 32:29Speaker 6: think needs to play guard. He's too clunky, his feet
- 32:31Speaker 6: are too slow.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Not good enough athletes play tackle.
- 32:34Speaker 6: He's going to have to play guard. So at least
- 32:36Speaker 6: tearing in even though he's a little bit shorter armed.
- 32:39Speaker 6: You know, I think you could probably survive a game
- 32:41Speaker 6: or two, or you know, a handful of games, kind
- 32:43Speaker 6: of like how they kick on went outside every once
- 32:45Speaker 6: in a while.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Yeah, is that worth the value to do that? Maybe?
- 32:49Speaker 3: But he probably goes interesting lit.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I mean I kind of look when I go down here,
- 32:53Speaker 5: and again, I don't study this stuff. It's not you know,
- 32:57Speaker 5: it's not my forte. I look at schools, you know.
- 33:00Speaker 5: You know, when you brought up Dunker, I looked at
- 33:02Speaker 5: him because he went to Iowa. It's a it's a
- 33:05Speaker 5: program that you know that that produces NFL lineman Notre
- 33:09Speaker 5: Dame kid Shrout is how you pronounced that one, Billy
- 33:12Speaker 5: Billy Shrouth, you.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Know, a captain at Notre Dame.
- 33:15Speaker 5: I don't know that these guys are athletic enough to
- 33:19Speaker 5: make the transition, but I look at schools and programs,
- 33:22Speaker 5: you know, And that's why Evan's always on the BC
- 33:24Speaker 5: lineman because Boston College, you know, for all the afflaws.
- 33:27Speaker 5: They produce NFL lineman So I kind of look at
- 33:30Speaker 5: guys like that and then I try to figure out
- 33:32Speaker 5: if maybe there's a spot in day three that you know,
- 33:34Speaker 5: you can pick a guy.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Like that up.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Do you want ten seconds on Logan Taylor because you
- 33:38Speaker 6: brought up Boston College player?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so he played four.
- 33:41Speaker 6: Out of five positions at Boston College, everything butt center
- 33:45Speaker 6: during his career there, slack he yeah, right, and so
- 33:50Speaker 6: I think that he's going to be an interior player.
- 33:52Speaker 3: We were at the draft party last Sunday.
- 33:55Speaker 6: I actually talked to coach Scarr about him because he's
- 33:57Speaker 6: working with coach scarneki At along with Jude Bowery. The
- 34:01Speaker 6: two of them are working on with Scar in the
- 34:04Speaker 6: pre draft process together, and he.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Really likes him.
- 34:07Speaker 6: He thought that he, you know, has a future probably inside,
- 34:10Speaker 6: but maybe even at tackle as a backup. And Scar
- 34:14Speaker 6: was pretty high on him. And I usually take that
- 34:15Speaker 6: guy's word for it when it comes to offensive linemans.
- 34:18Speaker 6: So I think he's a little bit higher cut for guards,
- 34:20Speaker 6: and you know, comes in a little bit high kind
- 34:22Speaker 6: of blocks like a tackle, but plays like a guard
- 34:24Speaker 6: in terms of his movement. So that's going to be
- 34:26Speaker 6: a little bit of a tweeter, but he's one of
- 34:28Speaker 6: those guys you know that sixth round, probably a fifth
- 34:32Speaker 6: or sixth round that you could get that you're probably
- 34:35Speaker 6: developing as a backup, you know, is a kind of
- 34:38Speaker 6: like a Ben Brown super sub type of player. But
- 34:41Speaker 6: those are extremely valuable, you know, in the league to
- 34:43Speaker 6: have guys like that. So one other guard I just
- 34:45Speaker 6: would throw out there because I know a lot of
- 34:47Speaker 6: Patriots fans talk about him, is Michael Morris from Georgia,
- 34:50Speaker 6: who is just another massive dude with a great athleticism profile,
- 34:55Speaker 6: had a great combine.
- 34:57Speaker 4: You know.
- 34:57Speaker 6: Those are the types of guys that when we start
- 34:59Speaker 6: getting into the end into the draft, that you're just
- 35:01Speaker 6: betting on traits, you know, and those are some of
- 35:03Speaker 6: those trade based guys. Just quickly just circling back to Dunker.
- 35:08Speaker 6: If they hadn't signed Elijah Vera Tucker, I would have
- 35:10Speaker 6: been pounding the table for them to draft Jennings Dunker
- 35:13Speaker 6: to play left guard. But now that they have Vera Tucker,
- 35:16Speaker 6: probably not as pressing of a need to draft a
- 35:19Speaker 6: guy on Day two as a backup to the interior.
- 35:22Speaker 6: But even though we said that he can't play tackle.
- 35:24Speaker 6: Don't like Jennings. Dunker is an awesome player. He's a
- 35:28Speaker 6: really physical guy. He's going to set a tone in
- 35:30Speaker 6: the run game, like having him and Will Campbell next
- 35:33Speaker 6: to each other would have been a lot of fun.
- 35:34Speaker 6: But he's going to go too high for you know
- 35:36Speaker 6: what they need. They need backups and developmental guys, not
- 35:39Speaker 6: plug and play starters.
- 35:41Speaker 1: All right, well, I think that's going to do it
- 35:42Speaker 1: for this one. The offensive line breaking it down. You
- 35:44Speaker 1: don't get centers, no center, no center, no do that
- 35:47Speaker 1: on your own time? Can I mentioned one center? Real
- 35:49Speaker 1: quick catch two cents really quickly.
- 35:53Speaker 6: Brian Parker from Duke played tackle at Duke. Some think
- 35:57Speaker 6: he's going to be all move all the way inside this,
- 36:00Speaker 6: but this is a guy that probably could play tackle,
- 36:03Speaker 6: guard or center. Probably not tackle, I'd probably rule that out,
- 36:06Speaker 6: but at least garden center. So if you're looking for
- 36:08Speaker 6: somebody that has some versatility and has some upside in
- 36:12Speaker 6: the interior, he's just another name that I think was
- 36:14Speaker 6: worth mentioning. It's funny like you always see these places
- 36:17Speaker 6: and some people think he's a guard. I think he's
- 36:20Speaker 6: the center. Like he played tackle in the ACC at
- 36:23Speaker 6: a high level. And we're moving him all the way
- 36:25Speaker 6: inside the center. It's pretty crazy, but he's one of
- 36:28Speaker 6: the centers that might have some like center guard flexibility.
- 36:31Speaker 3: There.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I'm done, all right, Well, that's going to do it
- 36:34Speaker 1: for Patriots. Draft Cowntown presented by bud Light, just got
- 36:37Speaker 1: one more produced episode left.
- 36:39Speaker 3: We're going to talk.
- 36:39Speaker 1: About tight ends and running back will be a good one.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I know Evan's really high on this running back class.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Great class, Just kidding. We'll see then,
