- 0:07Speaker 2: The insider I've covered the league at while.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Jeff Legwald too cute. Let's dial down the queue and
- 0:13Speaker 3: just play football.

- 0:26Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety five.
- 0:29Speaker 4: You got three games to win one, but that's not
- 0:32Speaker 4: the way you want to look at it.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, we got three games to win three and
- 0:36Speaker 3: go into the playoffs and win a Super Bowl.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Mike Dropper from bow Knicks.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Right there, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff Jeer, you got a
- 0:47Speaker 4: new Jeff Jeff, Yes, Jeff Legwald on a Tuesday afternoon,
- 0:54Speaker 4: Jeff Legwald is brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 0:58Speaker 4: of Electrical Workers ib e W Local sixty eight.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Start with a job, you end with a career. Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff.
- 1:07Speaker 1: How is Patrick's artan doing?
- 1:10Speaker 2: He looked pretty good today, So unless there's some kind
- 1:16Speaker 2: of massive change, I would expect to see him Thursday
- 1:20Speaker 2: night in the game. But you know, when I saw
- 1:23Speaker 2: him and talked to him briefly after the game Sunday,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and if they let you go home right away from
- 1:29Speaker 2: the stadium, you know, without a walking boot on or
- 1:33Speaker 2: without any extra time in the training room, that's usually
- 1:35Speaker 2: a good sign. And it turned out it, at least
- 1:39Speaker 2: so far it has been.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You're a veteran NFL reporter, you know how to get
- 1:43Speaker 1: this scoop? Where do you rank finding out Sean Payton's
- 1:47Speaker 1: interpersonal feelings and affections towards Pats or Tan as you
- 1:51Speaker 1: were able to get yesterday.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I like Pat, I inspire I inspire many things from
- 1:59Speaker 2: the Peyton, So we have a system. I asked questions
- 2:07Speaker 2: that irritate him slightly, and he tries to figure out
- 2:11Speaker 2: a way to answer them with, you know, as much
- 2:14Speaker 2: information as he'd like to eke out.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what, liking people is not always what
- 2:20Speaker 3: you inspire from him. But that's fine, that's fine, that's
- 2:23Speaker 3: the job sometimes.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And you pulled a good pivot. Really yeah, it was,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, like he he tried to cut you off
- 2:28Speaker 1: at the head, and you were like, I'm getting a
- 2:30Speaker 1: question out, Okay, you're gonna have to answer something for
- 2:33Speaker 1: me right now, and we find out that he likes
- 2:35Speaker 1: Patrick's ortan.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's the that's the name of the game.
- 2:40Speaker 2: You know, if you're going to get in the pool,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you're gonna have to splash around a little bit.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So yeah, sometimes the wave pool, maybe it is thunder bag.
- 2:48Speaker 4: You never know.
- 2:49Speaker 3: All right, Jeff, how's the rest of the health look
- 2:51Speaker 3: for this team?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know everybody was out there practice today.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It's just you know what, it was really only a
- 3:00Speaker 2: walk through. In the fact, they didn't even have They've
- 3:04Speaker 2: got these sort of other workout jerseys, they're not really
- 3:09Speaker 2: the jerseys they wear practice. They wear for a walkthrough,
- 3:13Speaker 2: and that's that's what they had on today. So that
- 3:16Speaker 2: is a great indicator that it was indeed a Thursday
- 3:19Speaker 2: game week walkthrough that so you know, everyone was on
- 3:25Speaker 2: the field for that. It's just what's the level of
- 3:28Speaker 2: participation when you're talking about a game now. And I
- 3:30Speaker 2: think they're hopeful, you know, they get as much out
- 3:34Speaker 2: of tomorrow as they can with some of the guys.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But you know, I would think DJ Jones will will
- 3:41Speaker 2: play in some fashion. I think Sir Tan will play
- 3:43Speaker 2: in some fashion, you know, Julia McLoughlin. That's another matter.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You know, that's a leg injury. But again he was
- 3:52Speaker 2: out there today participating in the walkthrough.
- 3:55Speaker 3: So what about one more week for him?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I still don't. I think the Bengals at the soonest.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But again he was out there today and you know,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you know, I was not at school. I was not
- 4:11Speaker 2: at medical school to day they taught medicine. So but
- 4:15Speaker 2: he did not have as big a rap on his
- 4:18Speaker 2: leg as he has you know in the past. But
- 4:21Speaker 2: again that may be because simply it was a walk
- 4:24Speaker 2: through practice and he didn't need one.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Jeff Legwell joins us right now in the Ramos Law
- 4:29Speaker 1: hotline car accident. You need Ramos Law medical doctor and attorney.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Visit ramos Law dot com. Uh Leggie Gus Bradley's game
- 4:36Speaker 1: plan and the execution of the Indianapolis defense to get
- 4:41Speaker 1: bo Nicks to throw three interceptions in that game. It
- 4:44Speaker 1: was a heavy dose of rushing four and dropping seven.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Jesse Minter is not allergic to his own coverage as
- 4:53Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator of the LA Chargers. What do you
- 4:56Speaker 1: think the upcoming opponents saw on film of the way
- 5:01Speaker 1: that Bradley attacked the Broncos offense and bon Nicks And
- 5:04Speaker 1: how do you think that could influence things going forward?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Well, I do show you people are trying a lot
- 5:10Speaker 2: of things now because the Browns and the Raiders were
- 5:15Speaker 2: the other way. They were very aggressive in the pass rush.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That was how they chose to go after Nicks, and
- 5:23Speaker 2: the Colts chose, you know, the other way, largely a
- 5:27Speaker 2: four man pressure group. But they're they're probably better. The
- 5:32Speaker 2: Colts are in the middle of their defensive line than
- 5:34Speaker 2: those other two teams are, so I think they felt
- 5:38Speaker 2: like they could generate a little more pressure with four
- 5:42Speaker 2: And I think once the the Chargers saw that, I
- 5:46Speaker 2: mean the Colts saw that the run game was going
- 5:50Speaker 2: to be sort of ornamental at best. I think that
- 5:53Speaker 2: dictated how they called the rest of the game too.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You know, if you're going to drop back and throw
- 5:58Speaker 2: it every time, we're going to make you look at
- 6:00Speaker 2: an awful lot of coverages. And you know, I think
- 6:05Speaker 2: some of the Colts strategy was dictated by what they
- 6:08Speaker 2: saw early, which wasn't much from the Bronco run game.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And you know, I think the answer is not the
- 6:17Speaker 2: one the Broncos want to hear about the run game.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Which is, you know, they're in the gun twice as
- 6:22Speaker 2: many snaps as they are and under center right now,
- 6:25Speaker 2: and they have not been that effective running out of
- 6:28Speaker 2: the shotgun. So that's some of the issue.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Okay, So that's some of the issue. I think you're
- 6:33Speaker 1: right about that. Broncos averaged two point seven yards per
- 6:36Speaker 1: carry in that game against Indianapolis. Now, LEGI one of
- 6:39Speaker 1: the things I appreciate you. You're never afraid to tell
- 6:41Speaker 1: me when I'm an idiot. So tell me if I'm
- 6:43Speaker 1: an idiot when I ask you this. Why don't the
- 6:45Speaker 1: Broncos just use Audric Estimate as their primary back on
- 6:49Speaker 1: early downs and then Javonte as a third down back?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Is clearly he's the guy that they trust as a
- 6:54Speaker 1: pass blocker, even though he's really struggling to run the
- 6:57Speaker 1: football right now. What am I missing?
- 7:00Speaker 2: That's an excellent question you ask, and I'm not sure
- 7:05Speaker 2: anyone has gotten the answer. I think some of it
- 7:07Speaker 2: is if you're in the gun and the formation is
- 7:12Speaker 2: not condensed, that's largely a five man protection, So you
- 7:16Speaker 2: want the better pass protection back in in that situation. Yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 2: in early downs. So I mean, if they're gonna be
- 7:27Speaker 2: a shotgun team, and they have been a shotgun team.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Uh you know that in a three wide you know
- 7:35Speaker 2: they're running three wide twice as much as any other formation.
- 7:39Speaker 2: They're in the shotgun twice as much as they're under center.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I think that's dictating why he is in on downs
- 7:46Speaker 2: where people are like, why can't you just play someone else?
- 7:50Speaker 2: This is all for their rookie quarterback. You know, he's
- 7:54Speaker 2: more comfortable in the gun. He's more comfortable looking at
- 7:57Speaker 2: coverages if they if they spread it out a little
- 8:00Speaker 2: bit and give them that cleaner look. And you know,
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think Jamonte Williams is getting some of those snaps
- 8:07Speaker 2: because of.
- 8:07Speaker 3: That, Jeff. They've got the Chargers coming up this week. Obviously,
- 8:14Speaker 3: was an ugly game, and Nate laid it out pretty
- 8:16Speaker 3: good for everybody as he was able to see some
- 8:17Speaker 3: of it on red zone. But it was a tighter
- 8:20Speaker 3: game in the fourth quarter at a certain point that
- 8:22Speaker 3: maybe that final score indicated. Are the Chargers though someone
- 8:26Speaker 3: threw this theory out to me, Are the Chargers falling
- 8:28Speaker 3: victim to Jim Harball eight and to beat the crap
- 8:31Speaker 3: out of his players, or what do you think is
- 8:32Speaker 3: going on there?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Well, It's like all teams if you're going to play
- 8:38Speaker 2: it the margin so close, you know, your margin for
- 8:44Speaker 2: error is is very small. And you know the way
- 8:48Speaker 2: they're playing right now, which is, you know, a little
- 8:52Speaker 2: grinded out on offense. Right you know, they have not
- 8:54Speaker 2: unleashed justin Herbert like people have let him throw in
- 8:58Speaker 2: the past because ball wants a little more balance in
- 9:02Speaker 2: the offense. But they have not been finishing drives very often.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And if you're gonna limit your possessions by your own
- 9:11Speaker 2: play calling, you've got to finish those drives with some efficiency.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And I think that's where they get caught. They start quickly,
- 9:20Speaker 2: they're a really good first quarter team, but you know
- 9:25Speaker 2: it's hard for them to maintain that lead through the
- 9:28Speaker 2: whole game with limited possessions if you're not going to
- 9:32Speaker 2: close things out better than they have.
- 9:35Speaker 1: What's the best way to deploy Patrick's or ten against
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Chargers? Is it? Is it lad McConkie, or is
- 9:40Speaker 1: it on the speedster Quenton Johnson, who's become more of
- 9:43Speaker 1: a playmaker as the season has gone along.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, you know you'd like to put them on the
- 9:47Speaker 2: Conkie because you're gonna like that matchup you know, because
- 9:50Speaker 2: you're gonna like any matchup you put Sirtan on right now, frankly,
- 9:54Speaker 2: but the Chargers then would quickly stuff him into the slot.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I think to put him in a bunch so Sirtan
- 10:03Speaker 2: couldn't get his hands on him at the line of scrimmage,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and just to give it more of a two way
- 10:08Speaker 2: go option for McConkey coming out of a coming off
- 10:12Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage. And I think that's what some
- 10:15Speaker 2: teams have tried. If you're gonna put Sirtan on our guy,
- 10:17Speaker 2: we're gonna put our guy on the slot and see
- 10:20Speaker 2: how serious you are about this. I don't think they see,
- 10:25Speaker 2: you know, if Riley Moss was playing, I'd say they'd
- 10:28Speaker 2: play it straight for sure. But I think they will
- 10:31Speaker 2: do what they have done the last couple of weeks,
- 10:34Speaker 2: which has picked their spots with Sir Tan and match
- 10:38Speaker 2: him when they feel like it's a bigger down on
- 10:41Speaker 2: Maconkee maybe and go from there. But certainly they will
- 10:47Speaker 2: put him on Johnson naturally in some cases because he's outside,
- 10:51Speaker 2: but I think they'll be more apt to pick their
- 10:53Speaker 2: spots in this one with how they they match him individually.
- 10:58Speaker 3: If McLoughlin can't go Could we see your reemergence of Beday?
- 11:01Speaker 3: What is going on with Biday at all? I know
- 11:03Speaker 3: it's probably not on your radar, but just trying to
- 11:06Speaker 3: it feels like Sean Payton likes go one for one,
- 11:08Speaker 3: body type for body type. Could we see the young
- 11:11Speaker 3: running back that was all to talk the first couple
- 11:13Speaker 3: of weeks back on the roster. They don't have the
- 11:15Speaker 3: room for that. What's your read there?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Well, and he's been working off to the side for
- 11:20Speaker 2: an awfully long time now, so you know they're running
- 11:23Speaker 2: out of weeks. I think he's closing in on one
- 11:27Speaker 2: hundred percent health if he's not already there. I mean,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it's just they like what McLoughlin's doing and I don't
- 11:34Speaker 2: think they want to do anything that would affect his
- 11:37Speaker 2: availability moving forward or anything like that. But well, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 2: again as far as the injury, he was on the
- 11:44Speaker 2: practice field today, so we'll see what they really think
- 11:47Speaker 2: Thursday during warmups.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Talking to Jeff Legwall the ESPN. He's with us here
- 11:53Speaker 1: on a Tuesday afternoon Broncos they're playing coming up here
- 11:56Speaker 1: on Thursday night. All right, Leggy, you're uh, you've known
- 12:00Speaker 1: to be an awards voter in the past. Of the
- 12:03Speaker 1: of the three Broncos that are in discussions for postseason awards,
- 12:07Speaker 1: Bo Nicks for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Nick Benito
- 12:11Speaker 1: Defensive Player of the Year, Patrick's or Tan Defensive Player
- 12:14Speaker 1: of the Year. I guess I don't want to overlook
- 12:17Speaker 1: Sean Payton and the Coach of the Year conversation either,
- 12:20Speaker 1: But if you had to pick one of those names
- 12:22Speaker 1: to bring home some actual postseason hardware, and people love
- 12:25Speaker 1: talking awards, people love betting awards.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Who's your guy, Well, if the voters are talking to
- 12:33Speaker 2: football people, it's for Tan, because I mean the guys
- 12:38Speaker 2: gms I know, pro personnel guys I know are very
- 12:42Speaker 2: quick to say, you know, if he's not in their
- 12:45Speaker 2: top three defensive players in the league, he is their
- 12:48Speaker 2: top defensive player in the league. So if you're talking
- 12:51Speaker 2: to football people, it's for Tan. If it's you know,
- 12:55Speaker 2: edge rushers always have a better chance to win the
- 13:00Speaker 2: defensive Player of the Year award because sacks are impact
- 13:04Speaker 2: plays that people recognize. Locking a guy down so he
- 13:08Speaker 2: does not get the ball is tougher, but it's not
- 13:12Speaker 2: recognized as a as a skill set. We like, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: we like things we can wrap our heads around, Like
- 13:20Speaker 2: he got that many sacks, and he knocked the ball
- 13:22Speaker 2: out that many times, and he scored two touchdowns, and
- 13:26Speaker 2: you know it's easy. But preventing the best players in
- 13:30Speaker 2: the league from getting the ball does not show up
- 13:32Speaker 2: anywhere really, you know, other than.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Hey, he's up the career high four interceptions.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Now, Leggy, No, I know that's what I mean. I
- 13:40Speaker 2: I but you know, it's just do the voters. The
- 13:43Speaker 2: voters have always liked edge rushing. I mean, Champ Bailey
- 13:47Speaker 2: didn't win it when he had ten interceptions one year
- 13:51Speaker 2: and by my charts he had been targeted thirty six
- 13:55Speaker 2: times and coverage that year he intercepted ten balls, So
- 13:59Speaker 2: that's pretty good math. But and he didn't win it.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I believe Strahan won it that year. So it just
- 14:06Speaker 2: shows how tough it is for a dB. You know,
- 14:08Speaker 2: it's like a non quarterback win in the win in
- 14:12Speaker 2: the big MVP Award. It's just very rare, even Travis
- 14:17Speaker 2: Hunter winning the Heisman. It's it's a tough thing for
- 14:21Speaker 2: a you know, the the non sort of show piece
- 14:25Speaker 2: statistic guy to win that. It's still like him the
- 14:30Speaker 2: best of and I think bo is a very good
- 14:33Speaker 2: chance to win offensive rookie. It's just there are more
- 14:36Speaker 2: voters out east. In fact, you know, I was replaced
- 14:41Speaker 2: on the panel so they could add two more guys
- 14:43Speaker 2: from the Eastern time zone. You know, do your do
- 14:47Speaker 2: your math there. I'm not sure. I'm not sure any
- 14:51Speaker 2: Broncos are going to have a you know, I used
- 14:53Speaker 2: to send the voters, uh, you know, cheat sheets why
- 14:57Speaker 2: guys should be considered you know here. But you know,
- 15:01Speaker 2: I don't think that. I don't think that will be
- 15:03Speaker 2: done because the number of voters west of the Mississippi
- 15:07Speaker 2: is fewer than it was last year.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and plus they get those emails and they just
- 15:11Speaker 1: go Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff Ye, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. All right.
- 15:16Speaker 2: As you guys know, I get that a lot.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I know. By the way, what's happening to the to
- 15:21Speaker 1: the Nick Benito market as he's now time for the
- 15:25Speaker 1: NFL and sacks two picks six? Is what what are
- 15:28Speaker 1: we talking about? Now?
- 15:29Speaker 4: Well?
- 15:29Speaker 2: Nick has if you're Nick, but you know, you know
- 15:32Speaker 2: it's a boom. I mean because not only does he
- 15:36Speaker 2: have the stats, people notice his metrics, the advanced metrics
- 15:41Speaker 2: are just you know, he's in the top ten, the
- 15:44Speaker 2: top eight. I mean, he's just everywhere in those GPS tracking,
- 15:50Speaker 2: you know, advanced metrics that everybody uses now. And you know,
- 15:54Speaker 2: so he's got the the things people notice. And his
- 15:58Speaker 2: two is two touchdowns are just athletic plays. I mean
- 16:02Speaker 2: his interception return for a touchdown against the Browns, he
- 16:06Speaker 2: plays that like a corner. And uh, you know the
- 16:10Speaker 2: fumble return.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Was that it was not a fumble return.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I'm sorry, I stupid stats. Yeah, but I
- 16:19Speaker 2: mean that's just an athletic play. I would tell people
- 16:23Speaker 2: if you get a if you get a replay, watch
- 16:25Speaker 2: what sir Tad did to force that, to force that play.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he ran, he chased the playdown. He was the
- 16:31Speaker 3: one applying the pressure. He came from the other side, and.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He called it before they ran it. On the bench area,
- 16:37Speaker 2: watched the trick play. Watch the trick play, keep your
- 16:40Speaker 2: eyes right. I mean, the guy is just unbelievable. But anyway,
- 16:44Speaker 2: Bonido is I mean, it's he's ringing the cash register
- 16:48Speaker 2: and you know, he's doing what you should do as
- 16:52Speaker 2: a player. He's having he's showing improvement, he's having his
- 16:56Speaker 2: best year, and you know it's going to be time
- 16:59Speaker 2: for somebody to pay him at some point.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Here to ching. Good for him, Jeff Legwald brought to
- 17:04Speaker 1: you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW Local
- 17:07Speaker 1: sixty eight. You start with a job, you end with
- 17:09Speaker 1: a career. Jeff Leangwald, have a great trip to Los
- 17:12Speaker 1: Angeles on Thursday. We'll talk to you later in the week.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Thanks us, We'll see it
