- 0:15Speaker 1: iHeartRadio Now.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Federated Farmers have ounced their president at the group's AGM today.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Wayne Langford was not allowed to put his hat in
- 0:22Speaker 2: the ring for a fourth year in the job. Instead,
- 0:24Speaker 2: his vice president, Colin Hurst, secured the votes for the
- 0:27Speaker 2: top job, and Wayne Langford, the outgoing president, is with
- 0:29Speaker 2: us A Wayne it, I mean, I'm slightly shocked by this,
- 0:34Speaker 2: are you.
- 0:36Speaker 1: A little bit?
- 0:37Speaker 3: But I also know how our national National Council operate
- 0:40Speaker 3: as well. We've been we've been kind of in our
- 0:42Speaker 3: national structure for about thirty years now and it hasn't
- 0:45Speaker 3: hasn't ever happened, And so we were, you know, we're
- 0:47Speaker 3: getting a few wins at the moment. We're going along
- 0:49Speaker 3: pretty well. And I thought, well, I'll check my name
- 0:51Speaker 3: in the hat to see if I can get to
- 0:52Speaker 3: get an extension for an extra year on my time,
- 0:54Speaker 3: and unfortunately I didn't get it. Over the line, have.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You done something wrong?
- 0:58Speaker 3: No? No, absolutely not no. No, they're just saying, hey,
- 1:01Speaker 3: they want to keep the new people coming through, and
- 1:03Speaker 3: that's what FITS has always done. And so that's where
- 1:06Speaker 3: they've gone about it. But you know, to be interesting,
- 1:08Speaker 3: Like I said, we've had some had some good times.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So I think we've got some pretty good relationships at
- 1:12Speaker 3: the moment, and we're getting a fear few wins for
- 1:13Speaker 3: our farmers and so hopefully they can keep that going on.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so were you you weren't obviously allowed to
- 1:19Speaker 2: vote for yourself, but were you allowed to vote for
- 1:21Speaker 2: your successor?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Ah?
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yes, I was, Yeah, Yeah did you pick?
- 1:26Speaker 1: So?
- 1:26Speaker 2: Did you pick Mark Hooper?
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:29Speaker 3: Now Colin. Colin will be a great successor act he said,
- 1:31Speaker 3: under me his vice president for a number of years,
- 1:33Speaker 3: and so so he'll go well and and he'll bring
- 1:36Speaker 3: a different style to me. But that's tend to be
- 1:38Speaker 3: tends to be what you find. I mean, if you
- 1:39Speaker 3: look at Andrew Hogart, who was before me, quite different
- 1:42Speaker 3: to me as well. So yeah, you never know what
- 1:43Speaker 3: you're going to get with the Fitz president now.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I I I had wondered if maybe you had been
- 1:49Speaker 2: punished for being quite magnanimous. I think you've always you
- 1:53Speaker 2: haven't been a prickly character who's gone hard at the
- 1:56Speaker 2: labor party. Has that in the end countered against you?
- 2:00Speaker 3: No, No, definitely not I think of anything that that's
- 2:02Speaker 3: been appreciated, and that that's why we had the vote
- 2:04Speaker 3: today that that I could potentially do a fourth year. Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 3: because they were saying, actually, this this new strategy that
- 2:10Speaker 3: you've got, it's working. Can we keep you on, to
- 2:14Speaker 3: keep you on, to keep it going? But unfortunately not
- 2:16Speaker 3: the case. So so I'll be heading back to the
- 2:19Speaker 3: farm to milk a few chaos.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Okay, what do you reckon? Seeing as
- 2:22Speaker 2: you're like deeply entrenched and have got probably one of
- 2:25Speaker 2: the best overviews at the minute, what are the problems
- 2:26Speaker 2: that are facing farmers in the next I don't know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: one to three years.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I think it's well, we're working through two big topics,
- 2:35Speaker 3: local government and the RMA changes. And well, while the
- 2:39Speaker 3: government will move as fast as they can on the RMA,
- 2:43Speaker 3: it's still going to take time to get in place.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And so we're working with the government currently at the
- 2:47Speaker 3: moment to say, how can we speed that up? What
- 2:49Speaker 3: does that look like? Let's get some permitted activities going
- 2:53Speaker 3: and let's just get farmers getting on with it really
- 2:56Speaker 3: so that they can you know, keep the country guard.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: All right, see here this is the text. Here's the
- 3:01Speaker 2: text for you, Wayne. Hither asked Wayne if he's going
- 3:04Speaker 2: to run for labor in the general election, because that's
- 3:06Speaker 2: his problem from Bernie.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yes, as there now, there's always there's always a few
- 3:13Speaker 3: good rumors around about that. And I did get a
- 3:14Speaker 3: few requests from all the all the political parties to
- 3:16Speaker 3: be fit.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But surely not from the Green. Did you get one
- 3:20Speaker 2: from the Green?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Not?
- 3:21Speaker 3: Not not from the Greens? No, no, no, I'm still
- 3:23Speaker 3: waiting from my call from Chloe, but maybe it might
- 3:25Speaker 3: come one day.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Well, now that you're available, now it frees you up
- 3:29Speaker 2: for it. Listen, Wayne, thank you very much and beast
- 3:31Speaker 2: of luck with everything. And by the way, great conference
- 3:33Speaker 2: and great event the other night, Swayne Langford outgoing Federated
- 3:36Speaker 2: Farmers Prison.
