Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland.
- 0:13Speaker 2: The after Party.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Welcome to the Disgraceland Bonus episode, a little thing we
- 0:31Speaker 1: like to call the after party. This is the show
- 0:34Speaker 1: after the show, the party after the party, the bridge
- 0:37Speaker 1: to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to
- 0:40Speaker 1: the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt. On
- 0:43Speaker 1: this episode, we are talking about Justin Bieber, child celebrities,
- 0:49Speaker 1: pop star, parent monsters, and of course your voicemails, texts,
- 0:53Speaker 1: dms and more and as always, a whole lot of rosy.
- 0:57Speaker 1: All right, Discos, let's get into it. Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:14Speaker 1: Welcome to the Disgraceland Bonus Episode After Party Extravaganza. Let's
- 1:19Speaker 1: talk about Justin Bieber. That's the first time I've ever
- 1:23Speaker 1: uttered that sentence, and I do so because Justin Bieber is,
- 1:26Speaker 1: of course the latest subject that we cover in Disgraceland,
- 1:30Speaker 1: drag racing, pills, potential deportation by petition, and so much more.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Justin Bieber, you know this. He's one of the biggest
- 1:38Speaker 1: pop stars in the world. He's been on top since
- 1:40Speaker 1: he exploded onto the scene, and he remains there to
- 1:43Speaker 1: this day, which is of course no easy task. We
- 1:47Speaker 1: think it's hard just to get famous, and it is.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It's extremely difficult. We know it's harder staying famous, staying
- 1:53Speaker 1: more specifically, not just fame. I don't mean famous, anyone
- 1:57Speaker 1: can be famous almost. I mean like being relevant in
- 2:02Speaker 1: the music game. Think of how many of your favorite
- 2:05Speaker 1: musicians were relevant for just small periods of time, and
- 2:09Speaker 1: then think of the very rare group of musicians who
- 2:12Speaker 1: have continuously stayed in the public eye for decades. Your
- 2:18Speaker 1: Metallica's You're Rolling Stones, Okay, Justin Bieber. You know he
- 2:23Speaker 1: doesn't have the longevity of those guys. Obviously he's a
- 2:25Speaker 1: lot younger, but things are trending in that direction. The
- 2:27Speaker 1: guy sold over one hundred and fifty million albums worldwide,
- 2:31Speaker 1: which ranks him higher than the Rolling Stones, just to
- 2:33Speaker 1: touch below ac DC and in the same neighborhood as
- 2:36Speaker 1: Billy Joel, Garth, Brooks Drake and Kanye West. And that
- 2:39Speaker 1: is some neighborhood. One hundred and fifty million albums worldwide,
- 2:43Speaker 1: no joke, I gotta admit I was surprised at Bieber's
- 2:48Speaker 1: actual success. I'm not a Bieber guy. I'm not listening
- 2:51Speaker 1: to Bieber records. I'm not, you know, waiting for his
- 2:55Speaker 1: music to come out. It's not my bag. You can
- 2:58Speaker 1: probably make that assumption fairly easily. He's interesting to me
- 3:02Speaker 1: as a subject of disgrace sand for various reasons, which
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm sure you've heard about from the full episode that
- 3:06Speaker 1: we just released on him. But my point is, I'm not,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, justin. Bieber's just this guy who's successful and famous.
- 3:12Speaker 1: In my mind, I don't know how successful or how famous.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So when I get to this bit about one hundred
- 3:17Speaker 1: and fifty million worldwide albums, you know, up there with
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Garth Brooks and Billy Joels of the world and
- 3:25Speaker 1: beating the Rolling Stones, which is just mind blowing to me.
- 3:28Speaker 1: That's fucking crazy. Bieber has been on the scene that
- 3:34Speaker 1: he exploded onto via YouTube at sixteen years old. He's
- 3:37Speaker 1: still only twenty nine. Okay. His career is so much
- 3:41Speaker 1: greener than those legacy artists that I just mentioned, The Stones,
- 3:45Speaker 1: Billy Joel. I still like I'm sure a lot of
- 3:48Speaker 1: you do. And this has nothing to do with age, really,
- 3:51Speaker 1: just perception I view this guy as a kid thought
- 3:54Speaker 1: he's not. He's a full grown man. He's twenty nine
- 3:56Speaker 1: years old, and you know he's been through a lot.
- 3:59Speaker 1: He's been through his ups and downs as as most
- 4:03Speaker 1: most rock stars are, most pop stars are whatever you
- 4:06Speaker 1: want to call me. You don't want to call him
- 4:07Speaker 1: rock star, I just want to call him pop star whatever.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I get that, ah, But he clearly takes what he
- 4:14Speaker 1: does seriously. He would not have lasted this long and
- 4:18Speaker 1: have had and would not have had this sustained success
- 4:23Speaker 1: for this long without taking what he does seriously. The trick,
- 4:29Speaker 1: the myth, the trick, the magic trick of being a
- 4:33Speaker 1: rock star a pop star is that they make it
- 4:36Speaker 1: look effortless and it's not so much effort goes into it,
- 4:42Speaker 1: even for the ones who make it seem like no
- 4:44Speaker 1: effort goes into it at all, and those, of course
- 4:47Speaker 1: are my favorite types of artists. But I respect the hustle.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Even if I don't particularly love Justin Bieber as a
- 4:56Speaker 1: pop star or get off on his records, I respect
- 5:01Speaker 1: the fact that the guy has been in the game
- 5:03Speaker 1: for this long and as a young immature kid, has
- 5:07Speaker 1: made his way as you can hear in the episode
- 5:09Speaker 1: through some like I said before, through some ups and down,
- 5:12Speaker 1: some real highs, some real lows, and some real bullshit
- 5:16Speaker 1: behavior on his part that he has conquered. And who
- 5:18Speaker 1: among us hasn't acted like idiots in our youth. We
- 5:23Speaker 1: didn't have the pressure though, of having to do it
- 5:25Speaker 1: under the microscope with the whole world watching us, which
- 5:28Speaker 1: this guy has had to do. Okay, So in thinking
- 5:32Speaker 1: of Justin Bieber and in considering him and this episode,
- 5:36Speaker 1: the notion of the child's star, it was still it was,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and it still is front and center for me. Okay,
- 5:43Speaker 1: even though the guy's not a kid anymore. I get that.
- 5:45Speaker 1: But it's a big part of his story, and it's
- 5:47Speaker 1: what led to his success in the beginning, and it's
- 5:49Speaker 1: almost the point I'm trying to make. It's almost what
- 5:51Speaker 1: led to his downfall. And it got me thinking, what
- 5:54Speaker 1: if or who if any other child stars have come
- 5:58Speaker 1: close to Justin Bieber's level of success in music. Michael Jackson,
- 6:03Speaker 1: of course, he's at the top of the list, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: after that it is a steep drop off. You've got Usher,
- 6:10Speaker 1: who of course is part of the Justin Bieber story.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You've got Leanne Rimes, Janet Jackson, Donnie Osmond, Brandy, Aaron Carter,
- 6:19Speaker 1: Lil Bow. Wow, the list gets thinned real quick, and
- 6:22Speaker 1: none of those artists, not even Usher or Janet Jackson,
- 6:25Speaker 1: reached the soaring career heights or prolonged relevance of Justin Bieber. Now,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm not talking about his merit as an artist or
- 6:36Speaker 1: a creator, right, Like, I'll listen to Janet Jackson for
- 6:39Speaker 1: a week straight before I'll willfully listen to Justin Bieber.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But that's just me. That's subjective, Okay, that's my taste.
- 6:46Speaker 1: That has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You might not like Justin Bieber's music, but you got
- 6:50Speaker 1: to just like look at the guy and be like,
- 6:52Speaker 1: how the hell did he a not die, be, not
- 6:56Speaker 1: go to jail, see not fall off the charts. It
- 6:59Speaker 1: just makes his story all the more unbelievable, the fact
- 7:02Speaker 1: that he was able to overcome all that juvenile bullshit,
- 7:04Speaker 1: all that immaturity and maintain his career. It's not something
- 7:06Speaker 1: that's really been done. I mean, it's been done with
- 7:10Speaker 1: mixed results and disastrous results at that. Remember, things didn't
- 7:14Speaker 1: end well for Michael Jackson when all signs seem to
- 7:16Speaker 1: be pointing toward a long and fruitful career for Justin
- 7:19Speaker 1: fucking Bieber. Okay, in his story, it gets interesting with
- 7:25Speaker 1: the presence of his old man, his dad, who, without
- 7:27Speaker 1: spoiling or rehashing the episode, is I'll just say, a
- 7:30Speaker 1: very complicated obstacle for the character of Justin Bieber. His
- 7:34Speaker 1: dad is a problem, okay, or was a problem to
- 7:37Speaker 1: say the least, not a very good influence at a
- 7:39Speaker 1: point in time, which got me thinking, who are the
- 7:41Speaker 1: most notorious pop star dad's stage dads? Okay? Top of
- 7:46Speaker 1: the list, Marvin Gaye's old man. He killed his son,
- 7:49Speaker 1: so he's right up there. He's number one, He's the
- 7:51Speaker 1: big Kahuna. He's Numero uno on that list. Joe Jackson,
- 7:54Speaker 1: patriarch of the Jackson family, didn't win any Further of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the Year awards, so he's up there. Ditto for Mari Wilson,
- 8:00Speaker 1: father of the Beach Boys, Brian Carl and Dennis Wilson. Well,
- 8:03Speaker 1: what other pop stars or musician dads are characters? Right?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Keith Richard's old man. He seemed like a late in
- 8:09Speaker 1: life interesting foil to the Rolling Stones guitarist right, Jerry
- 8:12Speaker 1: Lee Lewis's father, Elmo, seemed like a trip. So did
- 8:15Speaker 1: Elvis Presley's dad Vernon, who was fully immersed in Elvis's entourage.
- 8:19Speaker 1: The Memphis Mafia toward the end for Elvis' career, quite
- 8:23Speaker 1: responsible for a ton of Elvis's financial troubles. And as
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think about it, the list is longer than I
- 8:29Speaker 1: thought it would be. It's it must be a total
- 8:34Speaker 1: mind fuck to be a parent living a normal, working
- 8:38Speaker 1: class life to then have your child become rich and
- 8:43Speaker 1: famous beyond belief. Just try to imagine that. Just try it.
- 8:47Speaker 1: If you're a parent out there, just think of your kid,
- 8:50Speaker 1: your son, your daughter, your cute, little innocent son or daughter. Okay,
- 8:56Speaker 1: they hit the teenage years sixteen, and they become a
- 8:59Speaker 1: mega star, and suddenly you got all this money, you
- 9:04Speaker 1: got all this attention, you have, all these opportunities, you
- 9:07Speaker 1: get all these people. If suddenly every wants to not
- 9:10Speaker 1: only hang out with your kid and and and and
- 9:12Speaker 1: put them on this track toward more money and more
- 9:14Speaker 1: fame and more started, but they want to do the
- 9:16Speaker 1: same for you. What does that do to you? What
- 9:19Speaker 1: does that do to your psyche?
- 9:21Speaker 2: You know?
- 9:22Speaker 1: I mean, I like to think that I would handle
- 9:24Speaker 1: it the right way. I fucking I know I would, right,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and a lot of you know you would as well.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But you also know that you know people who are
- 9:31Speaker 1: a little unhinged and their parents, and you might look
- 9:35Speaker 1: at them a little side eyed at the baseball field.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You know, you might be like, I don't like the
- 9:40Speaker 1: way she talks to your kid, but you don't say
- 9:41Speaker 1: anything because you want to be judgmental. It's not your business.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I imagine if that person suddenly is the mother or
- 9:48Speaker 1: father of the most famous pop star on the planet,
- 9:52Speaker 1: what kind of shit show would ensue. It's fascinating to
- 9:56Speaker 1: think about. What would how would I What if it
- 9:58Speaker 1: was me? If I was what if I was I
- 9:59Speaker 1: didn't have kid until didn't have my son Intel was
- 10:01Speaker 1: my first son until is forty years old. What if
- 10:03Speaker 1: I had a kid when I was twenty one? Right,
- 10:07Speaker 1: so by the time I'm thirty seven, they're famous. You know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I like to I still like to
- 10:14Speaker 1: think I would handle it. How would you handle it?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Maybe you are the parent of a famous kid. Call
- 10:19Speaker 1: me let me know how you handle it. Text me
- 10:21Speaker 1: sixty one seven nine zero six sixty six three eight
- 10:24Speaker 1: Call me let me know what parents or pop stars
- 10:26Speaker 1: are the most notorious, all right, I didn't do any
- 10:29Speaker 1: research for this. I'm just talking off the throw shooting
- 10:32Speaker 1: from the hip here. I haven't thought about it as
- 10:34Speaker 1: in the course of this recorded monologue here at the top,
- 10:38Speaker 1: I've already thought of Britney Spears's parents and what a
- 10:40Speaker 1: shit show that is. Obviously I left I left them
- 10:42Speaker 1: off the list, not on purpose, I just didn't think
- 10:44Speaker 1: of it. But what other what other pop stars parents
- 10:47Speaker 1: am I not thinking of it? That we're total fucking
- 10:49Speaker 1: monsters where their kids had have have thrived and survived
- 10:54Speaker 1: as pop stars that we can compare to justin Bieber,
- 10:58Speaker 1: Are there any I don't know. I don't I don't
- 11:00Speaker 1: think there are. Let me know if you know six
- 11:02Speaker 1: one seven nine zero six six six three eight, or
- 11:04Speaker 1: if we just want to get into the subject of
- 11:06Speaker 1: weirdo parents of popstars. I'm all for that. I've nibbled
- 11:09Speaker 1: around the edges of the episodes here with the Marvin
- 11:11Speaker 1: Gay archive episode and his dad, and that was a
- 11:13Speaker 1: fucking crazy story. Check that out if you haven't already
- 11:16Speaker 1: six one seven nine zero six six six three eight,
- 11:19Speaker 1: get at me. I'm I'm sensing a sort of interesting
- 11:22Speaker 1: theme here. Hit me and let me know and I'll
- 11:24Speaker 1: be back right after this. All right? Six one seven
- 11:41Speaker 1: nine zero six six six three eight. You know the
- 11:43Speaker 1: drill call to leave a voicemail to talk disgraceland or
- 11:46Speaker 1: whatever you get on your mind. Six one seven nine
- 11:48Speaker 1: zero six six six three eight. You can leave me
- 11:51Speaker 1: a text as well. I really dig the sounds of
- 11:53Speaker 1: your voices, just like that of Austin from the two
- 11:56Speaker 1: to one four.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Hey Jack Austin from the two one for love the show,
- 12:02Speaker 3: big fan from the start after a hiatus, ought that
- 12:06Speaker 3: they want to get that to it the spot five.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Quick.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Here's the idea for the upcoming episode or two part episode?
- 12:16Speaker 3: How about something on the Jackson five m j H
- 12:23Speaker 3: history and the rise to fame, maybe along the lines
- 12:28Speaker 3: of Selina and Marvin Gay episodes. All right, love to
- 12:35Speaker 3: hear your feedback, give me a shout, yeah us.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You're on point. Austin, welcome back and yeah man, I'm
- 12:41Speaker 1: into the idea of the Jackson five episode. Also, you
- 12:44Speaker 1: mentioned Marvin Gay, who's monster of a father. We were
- 12:48Speaker 1: just discussing in Selena, another child star whose story did
- 12:52Speaker 1: not end well. So you're you're You're right on point, man,
- 12:55Speaker 1: appreciate it. Keep calling. Let's check in on this voice
- 12:59Speaker 1: Sma from the six to one.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Four, Hey, yate, Nikki Collin from the six point four
- 13:05Speaker 4: Columbus cRIO. Just wanted to put out there that you
- 13:08Speaker 4: should cover the Crows. Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson legendary by
- 13:15Speaker 4: you and all the time. I've actually didn't invite more
- 13:17Speaker 4: than one occasion on stage in a concert. It's amazing.
- 13:20Speaker 4: They always come back out into the show. But and
- 13:24Speaker 4: they're a piano player. Eddie harsh Man, he's just old
- 13:27Speaker 4: and cool and just got to cover the Crows anyway
- 13:30Speaker 4: of your podcast. You're awesome. I'm so glad there's someone
- 13:33Speaker 4: else out there. Actually probably a lot of us out
- 13:36Speaker 4: there that are obsessed with music, true crime. Thanks are awesome.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Happy to be a day space. Danks you wrong, Keep it
- 13:43Speaker 4: on man, all right.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Nikki from the six to one four, Thank you for
- 13:46Speaker 1: the call. Yes, the Black Crows. I get a request
- 13:49Speaker 1: for the Black Crows every couple of weeks, if I'm
- 13:50Speaker 1: being honest. But I of course know about all the
- 13:53Speaker 1: brotherly dysfunction. But what if any real true crime is there?
- 13:58Speaker 1: I don't know. Uh, your point, VICKI about music and
- 14:01Speaker 1: true crime? Is there anything there? Call me back, let
- 14:04Speaker 1: me know six one seven nine er A six six,
- 14:05Speaker 1: six three eight. We need a true crime to hang
- 14:07Speaker 1: these episodes on something. Even Bieber, even Bieber came up
- 14:12Speaker 1: against the law. I wonder what the Black Crews did
- 14:15Speaker 1: or how they came up against the law. Of course
- 14:17Speaker 1: I could just research this myself. You know, Google's right here.
- 14:20Speaker 1: All I gotta do is, you know, type right into it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: But I'm not going to do that. I'm not going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to do that, Nikki, because right now I'm talking to
- 14:28Speaker 1: you and I'm recording a bonus episode. But let me know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: let's do another voice smail here. Let's check out Toby
- 14:35Speaker 1: from the eight to six. Oh he is Toby Jackson
- 14:39Speaker 1: from Brooklyn.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I wanted to tell you to check out Killer Can.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I'm from our hand to Connecticut and I've been checking
- 14:43Speaker 3: them out.
- 14:43Speaker 2: There a ban from New Haven.
- 14:46Speaker 1: You know, it's somewhere in between the Stooges, the Dolls, Motorhead.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Something crazy like that.
- 14:52Speaker 2: But anyway, thank you and thank you for the show.
- 14:56Speaker 1: See you all right, Toby Man. Yeah, I dig the recommendation.
- 15:00Speaker 1: The band just so y'all heard it. Toby mentioned was
- 15:02Speaker 1: the Bandy mentioned was called the Killer Kin from Connecticut.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Stooge's Motorhead dolls right at my alley. Man, I'm all
- 15:11Speaker 1: over it, thank you. I will dive in. I was
- 15:13Speaker 1: just in Connecticut. I didn't hear any rock and roll,
- 15:16Speaker 1: but I was staying at a hotel right on the
- 15:21Speaker 1: Connecticut line in Rhode Island that was very close. I
- 15:26Speaker 1: could see her house. Taylor Swift's house was right there,
- 15:29Speaker 1: right there, and it was. It's kind of weird because
- 15:32Speaker 1: the night I was there, my sister was at a
- 15:34Speaker 1: Taylor Swift show in Foxboro, mass about thirty minutes from
- 15:40Speaker 1: where we were with my nieces. And I didn't know
- 15:42Speaker 1: when I checked into the hotel that it was going
- 15:44Speaker 1: to be a miss Swift's place right there. And I thought, oh,
- 15:47Speaker 1: the irony, you know, the irony. You know why? You
- 15:51Speaker 1: know why, I don't need to tell I'm not even
- 15:53Speaker 1: going to fucking say it, you know, you know? All right?
- 15:56Speaker 1: All right? Six one seven nine zero six sixty six eight.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Those are some voicemails. Let's do some Let's do some text.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Hold one second, let me pull up the text machine,
- 16:09Speaker 1: all right, from the two one seven. The musical scene,
- 16:13Speaker 1: This is the text. The musical scene of area code
- 16:15Speaker 1: two one seven is insane. Guitar Steve Hunter left here
- 16:19Speaker 1: and later joined Alice Cooper to record Welcome to My Nightmare.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Head East would tell us that there has never been
- 16:24Speaker 1: any reason to be flat as a pancake. I don't
- 16:26Speaker 1: know what that means. This is the texter. All the
- 16:28Speaker 1: legendary sounds got their start and laid their roots. Ario Speedwagon,
- 16:31Speaker 1: Dan Fogelberg, and mud Vane all from the two one
- 16:35Speaker 1: seven Huh? Where the hell is the two one seven?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Uh?
- 16:38Speaker 1: And why would I mention this is what the text says,
- 16:40Speaker 1: And why would I mention to you that berber dang
- 16:42Speaker 1: feeling fighting music to play if I could afford it,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Because those are the number one musicians that have come
- 16:47Speaker 1: from the two one seven area code. Thanks Jake for
- 16:49Speaker 1: all you do at Disgraceland. Well done two one seven,
- 16:52Speaker 1: But right back and let me know where you're at
- 16:54Speaker 1: two one seven. I don't know where that area code is.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Steve Hunter, Alice Cooper band, uh Ario Speedwagon has roots there, Dan,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Dan Fogelberg, Fogelberg, excuse me, and mud Vain all right,
- 17:07Speaker 1: very specific music scene in the two one seven. Appreciate it.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Let's do another, all right? From the nine one five Jake,
- 17:14Speaker 1: awesome shows. I don't miss an episode of Disgraceland or
- 17:17Speaker 1: bad Lands. Keep it up, dude, great great, great podcast
- 17:20Speaker 1: from the nine to one five rock and Roll, Thank you,
- 17:24Speaker 1: nine one five? What else have we got? Seven one
- 17:28Speaker 1: six rights in Hello, Jake. Not a Springsteen fan, but
- 17:31Speaker 1: you made it interesting as always. Just wanted to know
- 17:34Speaker 1: if you've heard the Cowboy Junkies version of Mister State Trooper.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Oh so good? I have not. Actually Cowboy Junkies do uh?
- 17:44Speaker 1: Joey Joye Baby that Cowboy Junkies? I don't know, but
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'll check that out. That sounds interesting. I'm always down
- 17:56Speaker 1: for a good Springsteen cover. Let's see what we got here.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Other people from five in Indiana are so mad at me.
- 18:02Speaker 1: More on that later in the Rap Party. All right,
- 18:06Speaker 1: let's keep moving here, Eric in the two seven six
- 18:08Speaker 1: writes Eric in Virginia. Here, in my opinion, the Springsteen
- 18:12Speaker 1: episode is easily a top three episode of all Disgraceland seasons.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Just awesome. I agree. Though Nebraska is Springsteen's best album,
- 18:20Speaker 1: it sounds more current now than it did when it
- 18:22Speaker 1: came out, and for mostly stark and acoustic album, it's timeless.
- 18:26Speaker 1: If you haven't heard the most recent remaster of it
- 18:28Speaker 1: on vinyl, to my years, it sounds better than it's
- 18:29Speaker 1: ever sounded. I've never heard Nebraska, Eric on vinyl. I
- 18:34Speaker 1: don't think i've ever heard it on viel and that's
- 18:36Speaker 1: something I should probably get it. That's a great idea,
- 18:40Speaker 1: And thank you for the props. And now I want
- 18:44Speaker 1: to know if you're saying it's top three episode of
- 18:46Speaker 1: Disgraceland of all season, Eric, I want to know what
- 18:48Speaker 1: your other two are? What are the other two? And
- 18:51Speaker 1: I guess I might as well put the call out
- 18:52Speaker 1: to all of you. What are the top three? What
- 18:54Speaker 1: are your favorite three episodes of Disgraceland. We've got one
- 18:57Speaker 1: hundred and twenty something episodes now or something like that.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I don't even know how many full episodes we have.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I should figure that out, but yeah, let's get a
- 19:03Speaker 1: top three ranking here, Three, not five, three, you gotta
- 19:06Speaker 1: go three. What are your three favorite Disgraceland episodes? Six one, seven, nine, zero, six, six, six,
- 19:12Speaker 1: three eight three. Because it's harder and nothing worth doing
- 19:15Speaker 1: is easy. You know that all right, let me know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: let's do a couple more texts here. I got a lot,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and I didn't do a lot last week because of
- 19:20Speaker 1: the word Zane's episode, so I'm gonna keep going here.
- 19:24Speaker 1: From the six eight two, Hey Jake, it's Libby from Dallas.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Oh hey Libby, First time Texter, longtime listener. I can't
- 19:30Speaker 1: tell you how much I love listening to all the
- 19:31Speaker 1: double Elvis content, especially Disgraceland, bad Lands and about a
- 19:35Speaker 1: girl with the angel voice NICKI Lynnette a couple of
- 19:38Speaker 1: things for you on the melotron for the run DMC episode.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I noticed it was named Nick in Mallory. That's family
- 19:44Speaker 1: ties reference. Right, that's a good question on I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 1: if I'm being honest, I didn't name that melotron loop.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So I don't know. So let's just say yes. I'm
- 19:53Speaker 1: gonna say yes. Also, she goes on to say, also,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I recently went and saw Spinning Gold, which is not
- 19:58Speaker 1: a great movie. However, the story of Casablanca Records and
- 20:02Speaker 1: Nick Bogart was really fascinating. I really think you could
- 20:05Speaker 1: do it justice. That's a fucking great idea. I know
- 20:08Speaker 1: there's all kinds of Shenanigan's going on with Casablanca. So yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I mean, damn, Libby, that's a good one. Thank you. Lastly,
- 20:15Speaker 1: while I'm referencing disco, Libby says, how about the Beg's
- 20:18Speaker 1: Lord That Barry Gibb has some golden pipes, you know, Libby,
- 20:21Speaker 1: he really does. Thank you, Jake for your time and
- 20:23Speaker 1: consideration in all the bonus content you've been releasing. Yeah, Libby,
- 20:28Speaker 1: you got it. That's a great text. Some really good
- 20:30Speaker 1: recommendations there that I'm going to dig into. Let's keep
- 20:33Speaker 1: going here. Five six one says, holy shit, the Nebraska
- 20:36Speaker 1: episode is amazing, incredible storytelling. Would love to see more
- 20:39Speaker 1: album releases in the future. Okay, but for real though,
- 20:42Speaker 1: the replacements, because I saw them at ACL in twenty
- 20:45Speaker 1: fourteen and they were fucking amazing. A replacements like Black Crows.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Where's the crime? Where's the true crime? I need the
- 20:54Speaker 1: true crime? I need the true crime.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I need the true.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Crime, all right? From the eight six', Four, jake It's

- 31:41Speaker 1: incredible incredible, writer and this is a great. Book and
- 31:44Speaker 1: if you're A springsteen, fan AND i know a lot
- 31:46Speaker 1: of you, are check this book. Out warren was also
- 31:50Speaker 1: on another podcast by another podcaster of some. Renown you
- 31:55Speaker 1: may have heard of. Him his podcast aim rhymes With
- 32:02Speaker 1: Lark farrin and his show is called rhymes With. Well
- 32:08Speaker 1: i'm not going to do, that but you can figure it.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Out go check that out if you want. To if, not,
- 32:12Speaker 1: whatever just read the fucking Book Deliver me From nowhere
- 32:15Speaker 1: By Warren. Zanes it's so. Good, OKAY i mentioned this
- 32:19Speaker 1: is going to get to What i'm watching Part i'm
- 32:22Speaker 1: obsessed with videos. AGAIN i MENTIONED i mentioned earlier THAT
- 32:26Speaker 1: i was. Traveling my wife AND i went on a
- 32:27Speaker 1: little trip this past. Weekend we went down To Rhode,
- 32:30Speaker 1: island went to stay at this beautiful hotel right on the.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Water LIKE i, mentioned it was next To Taylor swift's
- 32:37Speaker 1: home THAT i didn't realize that when we got. THERE
- 32:40Speaker 1: i only mentioned it because it's fucking. Weird AND i
- 32:42Speaker 1: did a whole podcast on people's Stocking Taylor swift and
- 32:45Speaker 1: THEN i show up in the hotel next. Door kind
- 32:47Speaker 1: of fucking weird. Ironic, anyhow when we were, there they
- 32:52Speaker 1: HAD Mtv classic on the cable network in the hotel.
- 32:57Speaker 1: ROOM i don't HAVE Mtv, classic and we talked about
- 32:59Speaker 1: this other chance THAT i have That i've been continuing to.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Watch the problem with The Excite eighties channel THAT i
- 33:07Speaker 1: have on My samsung television. App the problem with that
- 33:12Speaker 1: channel is THAT i found in now watching it for
- 33:14Speaker 1: a couple, months is that they clearly have the licensing
- 33:18Speaker 1: for only a small portion of the videos that were
- 33:20Speaker 1: made in the nineteen. Eighties and there's there's a lot
- 33:22Speaker 1: of repeats that pop, up WHICH i can deal with
- 33:26Speaker 1: because that just reminds me of what it was like
- 33:29Speaker 1: in the eighties to WATCH. Mtv they just pumped the
- 33:31Speaker 1: same shit over and over, again and you know how
- 33:32Speaker 1: many times can you watch you, Know Paul simon And
- 33:35Speaker 1: Chevy chase do the whole you can call Me, betty and,
- 33:38Speaker 1: baby you can call me out or whatever the fuck
- 33:39Speaker 1: that thing is that they. DID i can watch it
- 33:41Speaker 1: numerous times because it's, Great but that's not my. Point
