- 0:42[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, we've got to start out CVS sports release.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's rankings for the top five best and five worst quarterback situations in the NFL.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: entering the 2026 season.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: The Browns, obviously, we know the QB room to Sean, Shador, Dylan Gabriel, and Taylor Green ranked 30 second in the NFL behind some of our fellow bottom dwellers, such as the Jets, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Falcons, CBS site of the uncertainties surrounding Watson's health and performance, along with the lack of proven long-term starters, as a big reason for the rankings.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: Max, I want to start with you.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: Is dead last actually fair or are we sleeping on Shador a little bit?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: But my question becomes what are these quarterback situations called based on, if it's just a quarterbacks in the room, I still don't think it's dead last, but I think you could make more of an argument.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: But if it's about the situation the quarterback is actually in the offensive line, the players around him, I don't know if the Browns are in the bottom five with all of those players around them.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: They've dramatically improved the offensive line, Harold Finn and Junior Quintion Judicans in the backfield, and they've a young talent at White or Silver Lake.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: If it's about the situation, then they shouldn't be.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: If it's about the quarterbacks, you have an argument, but I still don't think so, at least the very, very bottom.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I look at it from this perspective, what do you, they've got everything you want in terms of a quarterback room, you've got the veteran, you've got the young guys, I mean, despite how we feel about Deshawn's play on the field, he's still a veteran, he still has been places that other quarterbacks strive to go to, that's a top five, top three and a league playoffs, 4,000 yards,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: crazy touched on interception ratio and then you have a guy who's been in a brown system has been in the organization for now his second year who's shown flashes the year before.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you're basing it all that it shouldn't be the bottom.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now if you want to talk about if you're putting next year into it that's where I think you can get a little sticky because I think everyone knows that you have to be looking towards that 2027 season but that shouldn't affect what the rankings are this year.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: I agree with you.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also looking at the description.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just a quarterbacks in the room, but even then, I still don't think it's worse than the New York Jets at least.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like I look at the Jets Gino Smith quote is their veteran, but he's really their starter.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's Gino to Sean Watson say whatever you want about that battle.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: You want to go down the depth.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the Browns have should or Sanders who who's one games in the NFL before multiple games, right?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, Bailey's happy, Brady.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Cookware of third stringer is going to be in New York.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: And the jets are bringing in Clayt Cade Club Nick from this past draft class.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like you can't look at that jet's depth and say it's better than the brown step.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the cardinals.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: Arizona and I think it's better.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, but whoa, wait, can we pause on that real quick?
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, man.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think of Jacobi Brced is a week one star.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we have sat here for months saying what if the Browns had Jacobi Brced and said Behind him cropping time wrong.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's Carson back though.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: Gardner, mint you.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: I wanted to get your perspective on it too, because we talk about encompassing the whole entire room, not just to start in quarterback guys.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_03]: You do have a little bit of that McDonald's you pick too, right?
- 3:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like you have to Sean, you have should or like it's not like you have to sit through one guy the whole entire year.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: How much of that maybe it's a few good weeks out of the Sean and then we find out about should or vice versa.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: Do you see as a factor in the Browns not being dead last?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think we just got to let things fall what they fall, you know, because obviously right now and whatever everybody else is saying is the Sean's gonna end up being a starter.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let that be, you know, because I feel like if you're going there, you know, not knowing what, then you mess your QBs up and then you start creating tension between them, you know I mean, so by them just letting it be, letting it be, letting it shine.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like Chador doesn't have a problem sitting behind the Sean like he didn't have a problem with sitting behind Dylan Gabriel so I feel like it's a good thing it's a good thing for both it's a good thing for the Sean from him to prove his point coming off of injuries and it's a good thing for Chador because he's not necessarily getting thrown in the fire
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: year after year after he's he's he can sit back and watch the game and and learn even more before he's actually out there.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: You said it's uh that you said he's more comfortable sitting behind the Sean than Dylan.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: I do you think it's
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: That or do you think it's the coaching situation that might be a little bit better and Comfortability for shit or because obviously there were those questions where it should Door and Kevin on the same, you know, I love or whatever the same path or helping you the one I'm like To be honest who Dylan Kevin
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: you know he didn't kind of have the teachers pet vibe a little a little bit a little bit propped up by it by the organization at times but uh... you got to use their payroll they're going to be really having that top 100 label i guess you don't have to do treat him as such in a way and nobody across the league at least from what we've seen and heard thought that he was a top on the player so
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: And that is absolutely true.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: Looking at these rankings, I feel like there's quarterbacks every single year who at the start of the year maybe even take a guy like Sam Darnall who had a great year last year where it's like okay like this guy's an interesting scenario or oh how do we not know yeah this guy would be good if he had a literal living breathing off his line in front of him this year.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys think there's a chance that Shidorah Sanders is being heavily underviewed nationally at this moment in time or really anyone or even to Sean in front of his right.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say the crap.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah because
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: look at the line we had last year.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: If we had something better than that, they would play a lot better.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, for him to play as, you know what I'm saying?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would say he didn't do bad, he didn't do the greatest, but he played well for what we had.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's his name.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: His name is literally what he gets no benefit.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Can you imagine?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: if let's just say, Deshawn Kaiser would have been in one games with what we won, essentially in the season that what he had.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: If Deshawn Kaiser, what he came in, I was like, hey, he won three games.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: He had two games where he brought a team back down double digits in the fourth quarter.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think the city would be saying about Deshawn Kaiser?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's I agree with you.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a lot of things that factor into that.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I agree with you.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: I also think you bring up a really interesting point about whoever is playing quarterback for the Browns.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of think there might be a public perspective punishment or negative more negative view because the Browns don't have this clear-cut starter.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like you look at Arizona, if Jacobi Bersett is there and the contract stuff is figured out, he is going to start.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: Miami as Malik Willis, he is going to start the Jets.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: Jeno Smith, he is going to start like you can go down that list outside of Atlanta.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think with there's questions about Penex's health and then two is there and apparently Kevin's fans can two or hit it off the great, but the Browns don't have a clear starter.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a negative.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: point for them, but you also look across the NFL, I don't know if there are one, two, maybe three more quarterbacks that got better situations or dramatically improve their situations compared to the Browns, like they completely overhauled the offensive line, which was awful last year.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was so bad last year.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: You draft Spencer for no, you bring in multiple free agents, you trade for another right tackle, and Titus Howard, and now you get two of your first
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: probably since I'm already Cooper, but even Denzel Boston physically a little bit different.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: And then Casey can see on a guy who's going to be great in the Todd Monk and offense, he's loved using say flowers these past couple years.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how many quarterbacks in the NFL right now.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: I've had that dramatic of an increase in supporting cast just this off season.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm looking at the list of 30 teams.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: I could probably think of two or three just off the top of my head in terms of pure improvement.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's fair to look at a brown quarterback whoever it may be and say they can't improve.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: They can't get better.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing I think that else is not really being looked at.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can almost argue that they're quarter, but this is one of the better quarterback rooms the Browns have had in recent years from this angle.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why I say that is, the togetherness, I see the Sean and Shidorah.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: it looks like they have some sort of mutual understanding of what's going on in the situation at hand.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, in past seasons last year for instance, it was Kenny Pickett versus Dylan versus Dylan, versus Dolan, versus Dolan, versus everyone else, versus Joe Flacco coming from Kevin.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was so versus Kevin, right?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there were so many directions that you were being pulled, but should Dolan and Deshawn are pulling in the same direction.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're not trying to divide.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: They are doing the same thing together.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: that's why I think it's like the shot is almost doing exactly what LeBron wanted to do for Kyrie.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: LeBron wanted to give the range to Kyrie when it was his time and unfortunately Kyrie didn't want to play that role where Shidorah is looking at it like,
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I've got an opportunity to learn from this shot, uh, Dishon.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: I know my time, I'm gonna get in eventually, instead of going against the grain, let's pull this boat in the same direction.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's something that's being overlooked.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that is definitely a positive when your quarterback room is on the same page, because if one guy goes down, you know that guy behind him is on the same exact page, that the front guy was on.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_03]: Phil, I wanted to ask you a bit about that to Sean and Shador Kumbaya that we're talking about because as a former player could you give it perspective on what it's like because I would imagine if I'm I'm just Sean It's like okay like a lot of people seem to want this guy to play quarterback.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: It seems like there's probably likely at some point in time He's gonna play whether it's this year and next year like I'm almost I almost know who my replacement is on the throne already You know like so how does that change your perspective as a player or is it more just locking on what you're doing and I'm gonna go out there
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: You got you got to shut out the outside noise and you can control what you can control.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean so, you know you're in that QB room and you know You got somebody that's gonna you know eventually may take your spot You still got to control what you can control you go do your job every day and and still help that person out You know saying that person young and you help them out.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean and and everything else are falling on That's like when I was in my last year in Cleveland we drafted a daddy child
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I could have shunned them out and, you know, not been a, you know, don't help them all.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's taking my spine and Pillset.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's part of the team.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're dealing with a unit.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to work together as a unit.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that's all I see about it.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: I like that guys are second Cleveland headline of the day.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's sure Sanders criticized for being himself.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_03]: or is Rex Ryan right could Rex Ryan be right we're going to find out so guys former NFL coach known foot lover Rex Ryan recently took aim of Brown's quarterback Shoulder Sanders after photos surface or resurface or other of Sanders participating in a magazine style photo shoot during the off season
- 11:50[SPEAKER_03]: Ryan questioned whether a young quarterback still trying to establish himself should be focused on branding and publicity before proving himself on the field.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: The comments have re-agnited a debate that's followed Shidorah since college.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: Is he unfairly criticized simply for being confident and embracing his personality or should a franchise quarterback carry himself differently until he's earned it?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, Rex Ryan likes to flap the gums every now and again.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: Do you put any solid, do you take any brain also?
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: What are you saying?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, because he just, Rex got a adapt with the times.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's always about building your brand.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it's always about building your own end off the field.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: And Rex is old school.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's more, you know, shut up and dribble.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And now in 2026, and with the social media, it's always about building your brand.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because, you know, then it feels to answer not for long.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to build yourself up to the to the where to where as after you're done you said so I don't have a problem with what he did he was You know a rookie that should have been drafted in the top five went fifth round
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: and still have the most Jersey sales for any of them.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, clapping up for, I was really...
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: I like Jay Z wants to say, he said, there's a business, but he's the business man.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: And this is one of those things for, so I don't know, I'm almost positive of this how it goes.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can correct me if I'm wrong.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: But when you change your numbers, you have to buy out all of your jerseys.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, in order for you to do that.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I see a business guy like dang if I'm about all these jerseys Might as well make the money back somehow He just replenished every single dollar that you got off of that one video shoot or photoshoot using those 12 jerseys But on the other end of that I just think it's funny how he picks and chooses when he wants to talk about should or because right after that He had a free 500 event where the kids got to come he gave away a free chain of his event the guys were out all
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Dylan Samson, Cedric Tillman, Isaiah Bond, Casey Casseps, Yom, Denzel Boston, Jerry Judy, and I think it was two other, two or three other people with them.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: The Sean Watts was there as well, all hanging out together, and you don't see him talking about any of their other good things.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: So again, this is part of the, well if it's negative, it's gonna generate a click, and if they generate a click, it's gonna put a dollar in the pocket, and I feel like that's what this is, because, I mean, like you said, he likes to flap at the gums, that's more like flap in the teeth.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's also a middle of July when there's nothing going on.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, I would get it if this was his huge distraction.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: And all of a sudden, Shidorah Sanders looks like the worst quarterback in the world.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't think there are three interception to perform it.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's one thing if this is happening, you know, during the season, the day or two before game like that, even then as a better argument, but I still don't.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: think it's fair.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: I always look at Caleb Williams who came out really in my opinion was the biggest headline guy of this NIL error.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously number one overall pick got these crazy endorsements walking into the NFL, not just the after being in the NFL, walking into the NFL.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, whether you think he's a top 10 quarterback or not after that list, we talked about last week, he's pushing it like he's one of the best player in the world.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: If it doesn't affect you on the field, you build your brand, you're your business, you're
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not that big of a deal.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think you got to get with the times for sure It's just the world that we live in now.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: I really don't think it's that big of a deal No, I want to speak in a Kayla.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_03]: I wanted to ask you guys.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think if literally any other second year quarterback of the NFL did this?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: It'd be talked about this way
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was just what I was going to say no one had a problem with Baker Mayfield was shirtless with the tiger remember that I do remember Sure the life of pie picture No one was no one was mad when Baker Mayfield was doing it right it was oh he's caught a little good get your money good Randy.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is cool.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's with a tiger, but
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is cool.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's at the time.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: I do think he's a Sanders and I know that's, you know what I mean?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: And people, it shows the deep, down, hate they got.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just because somebody is swag, swag and confident was wrong with that.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so glad you said that because I wanted to talk about this so bad.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: it's weird how like it's not weird.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great thing to see that there is a new makeup on this team.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: Because for the long and it's not bad like when you build a team you are a reflection of that team.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: You go back in the history, you go back to Sashi Brown.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Sashi Brown was here for one thing and that was to rebuild a team.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: Demo the entirety of the Cleveland Browns organization to set you up.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Then when John Dorsey came in, it was a very distinct identity of what the team was.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then when Kevin Stephensy came, it was a very distinct grab your lunch pack, let's go to work, and let's just the very raw emotion.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: And now with Todd Munkin,
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of sauce, it's a lot of swag, it's a lot of be who you are and embrace that.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that is going to, when I looked at that one video where it was a Shador showing everybody where they were out or wherever they were at.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just looking at, I'm like, I see a team that has been built where it's like, we've got a bunch of personalities and we're not going to restrain it.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was a downfall with the Kevin Stefanski era is good in hard working as players that we had.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: We've got the hard working players with a little bit of sauce.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think we still had that because I mean the defense with Jim Schwartz was always happening around dancing and but in a way like if Kevin was really that admin against being yourself and I he could have said should or don't put your rest up or down by 14 to the Titans and we have two wins but he didn't know it though would not just individual players but our team was not very
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: Flash.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Our defense was you're right about that.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Jim Schwartz brought swag to the defense.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_03]: How much you couldn't be in your scoring 14 points again?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't good enough to be full.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: But it's hard exactly though.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that was a product of who your coach was because the defense, if if you were going out there, you were going out there and you were trying to be you were trying to make plays all the time.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: How many opportunities that we look at them like man, why can't Kevin's defense, he just put his foot on the gas?
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Kevin's the police in 1984 though.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think he's forcing everyone to conform into one thing.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that there is a certain way, like there's always a guy in the group where you're like, okay, yeah, we can't act in a certain way when this guy's around.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: And when Kevin's around, it's like, oh shit, okay, them down the party a little bit.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we can still party.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: We know he's gonna be a party, Jimmy's all like down a little bit.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, we gotta just turn it down just a little bit.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: You guys can have fun, but he still came over and ruined the party.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's a dead, that vibe just, it's like, it's a killer vibe.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why our offense looked the way they did it.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think that I think that's part of it.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can throw the whole blame pie on Kevin's defense key.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Look at the talent.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Even then, I don't honor your percent now.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: I do think it's worth also looking at the fact that Kevin's defense key was let go from the Browns.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Got a new head coaching job like that.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: We do think that was going to happen though.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, if he is as bad as a coach as a lot of Browns fans say or think he is he would not have gotten.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: See, here's the thing.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: The only way I see it is they like people know how terrible it I guess Cleveland is today we're like, we got you about it.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:18[UNKNOWN]: 100%.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, hey, if you can turn the Browns into being that, even that close to stable for that short period of time, you know, that's that's got to speak for something.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: But guys, the next thing I want to ask is we go on this whole Rex Ryan jargon of a story is there is the crowd out there who will say, like, okay, I like Shoulder Sanders.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: I want sure Sanders to do well.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_03]: I want him to go on do media and have fun.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: But I want to see you wait until you have a positive touch down interception ratio to do it or until I see you string together some wins or until you have the QB one job like you are in fact quarterback one for the Cleveland Browns mix where do you set first of all on that on those those Cleveland Brown stands the ones who aren't against should or going out and having fun, but want to see more on the field first.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's the most valid perspective you could probably have from an anti-shadore point of view.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, yeah, if you're looking, if you're saying should or you can't do this, you better be saying you can't do this because you're not producing on the field, you're not the starting quarterback, rather than you can't just do this at all, like the, you know, the shut up and dribble type perspective, right?
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, I mean, he played how many started seven, eight games, whatever it was last season.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's so much that has to be proven, and I've said a few times this offseason, you can't confidently say, yes, this is your franchise guy, or know this, not our franchise guy, off half of a season of a sample size.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I do think there's absolute validity in that point of saying, like, I want to see more on the field before you really do all this, but this is, like,
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's not a big day posted way worse stuff.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean as QB like what difference does it make he posted a picture like people hate on them that much They do he post pictures.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean think of what the narrative was before that it was oh my gosh.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's got a media team watch him run up a hill
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: So when he did post the system working out, it was a problem and now he's not doing enough.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: So would like he's in a lose-loose situation with that right now.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I honestly just think it's the name on the back of his jersey.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's not anything that he's doing because if any other player would have
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: how many how many quarterbacks I'm we're just talking strictly quarterbacks and he's a fifth round guy at that have been involved in the community as much as Shidorah his first year and a half here do through events that one fire that happened down uh in a project right here on I think it was off 30th that
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: through an event for that.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't tell nobody about it.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Last second thing there.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's done all counts of give, um, little camps and charity stuff like that.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, given away cars, if it was anybody else's name, like, if arch manning would be doing the type of things that, oh my God, they have statues.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: They have statues, they have statues, they have statues, they have statues, they have statues, they have
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: I wanted to ask you guys continuing on with the what a franchise quarterback looks like a little bit right because Colin Coward right now jaccharot franchise quarterback jaccharot no longer franchise quarterback.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know where where do you guys sit on that debate of the oh look you have to be doing this or you have to be this way You have to go on you earn it this many times It can can got can we just exist can sure Sanders be sure Sanders is that too crazy for world 11
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't have it is.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local, from a local
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: 2025 Eagles hurts was pretty good that season that team was just dominant.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: You have the Mahomes of the world where you will them to win a 2024, but 2023 that Chief's team pretty good, 2022 that Ram's team it was what?
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Cooper Cup, the greatest receiver season ever, obviously had Matthew Stafford.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think there's a lot of ways to win a Super Bowl and there's a lot of ways to be a franchise quarterback.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think those are absolutely related.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have to act a certain way?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Do certain things as a quarterback?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think if you galvanize your offense I think if you get guys to rally around you and you are the leader of that team You can be a franchise quarterback regardless, you know if you're posting pictures with your jersey or you don't even use social meter You're pay somebody else to use social media like it's not that it's not that deep.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's not that complicated I should like we make life so kind what's the object of the game?
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: you play to win the game.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, hold on.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: I want to stop you there.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: Quarterback.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: You score points.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's the object.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: You same.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: But again.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: You still got a place to live in.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and there are situations you do, but I don't want us to get caught up in a quarter of a wins or a quarter backstatt type.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: It wins on a quarter back, but at the end of the day, is this quarter back on my team winning games?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, or is he, yes.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: Is he winning games or is he actively contributing to us losing?
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, absolutely.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I think.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: Baseball is good though.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: Pictures get wins and losses.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: They do.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: but I mean you you could talk about that.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's fully fair to picture.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_03]: I like Taylor Ivy was not our worst pitcher the start of the year and he was oh Owen seven or oh and eight for a while there.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_03]: Guys last question for you before we hit a little break here.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'm big play Cleveland live.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_03]: Make sure to like comment and subscribe as always for us fellas here.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: Should personality matter if the production is there.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Not even for Shidorah or Deshaud necessarily, but is there any world where personality should matter?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_03]: Because you look at baseball, for example, like Joanna Suspidis, guy could hit 25 homeruns any year.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: He was a lug nut, so he was on a new team every year, because no one wanted the guy.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys think that personality should play any fold or if you can get it done on the field, that's all the matters?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking confused on what you're asking.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like does it matter in terms of if anything off the field?
- 24:55[SPEAKER_03]: personality, whether it's a guy's a jerk in the locker room, whether it's a guy has some baggage like the Sean May, should personality matter at all if the production is there on the field.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because personality, one bad apple can, you know, take everything else.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's certain degrees of personal.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: If he's flashy, okay, you know, saying, you know, be cocky, okay.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: Confident, okay, but if he's like, asshole, the teammates, asshole, the staff and the facility, how am I?
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let me ask you with this question.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: You said personality, you asked of personality matters.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: Look at our team in the past three years.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: On one side of the ball, you had fiery, upbeat, be who you are, and on the other side of the ball, you had very, here's the script.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Do not do anything other than the script.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: One side was dominant, the other side was hovering.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think personality matters a lot.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're a personality.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, girls and football, same thing.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_03]: Personality matters most, right?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think that example is also not exclusive of the Browns, but has a lot to do with the talent on the offense side of all.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think of, you know, like, the, let's say the Detroit, the Detroit Lions, for example, very not bland offense, but you know exactly what you're getting every single time you game plan for them.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously Ben Johnson, Dan Campbell will find new creative ways to maximize the talent, but they're just so talented.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to score 30 points on you.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, I just, if you want to say last year fine.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: the year before that, even I can listen.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: But we've had talent in that era.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's what drives me so crazy with this whole thing.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: We had Korean hunt, Nick Chub, a top 10 offensive line for three years, a franchise quarterback, Jarvis Landry, Odo Beckham, David and Joku, who else am I missing?
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: We had weapons on the offensive line of the ball.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't understand.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't get, I get what you're saying.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I also, like, we had the talent.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: Though, yeah, those years with, like, Jarvis Baker, Odell for, like, that absolute, I think that honestly is more of a valid claim than the last three years, because there are so much talent.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you look back at that offense and you're like, how did you not ace quamor points or be even competitive in more games?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: But, yeah, at that point I think there's a lot of things that were wrong with that offense.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, Odell left in the middle of what the 21 season, and then, you know, Baker quam was good enough.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: You had the injury, like, there's just a lot of questions I think there.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: Phil, thank you for joining us as always going to quick break here on the Big Play Cleveland Show.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: Don't go anywhere.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_03]: Shout-out to smart choice best for the Cleveland headlines.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: We got Cavs, guards, LeBron, SEC, and more coming up next.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome on back to Big Play Cleveland Live, Jack O'Rourke, here alongside Max Loeb and Chef say make sure to like, comment, and subscribe as always so you don't miss an episode 12 to 130 Monday through Friday.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_03]: Every day of the week and guys, Greg Sanky, the SEC commissioner also known as the guy who steals candy from babies at your local target is back at it with his big news of the week.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: And that's that once again after every single time it comes out, oh, we either the playoff formats, not going to go how the SEC wants.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, there's a scheduling difference.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, there's a new NIL case.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_03]: What does the SEC always do right away, guys?
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: They say, hey, we're going to take our ball and go home.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_03]: Once again, Greg Sanky's saying that it's not to refer to outcome.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_03]: But there's a chance that the SEC succeeds from the NCAA sometime in the near future.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I could talk about this for so many hours.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_03]: I have so many things coming to my little tiny brain to say about this topic.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_03]: But I got to ask you guys first, Zay.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_03]: Where do you sit on the SEC being holier than that and thinking they are big enough to break college sports as we know it?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think you referenced the greatest reference ever.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: That was a clearly old I can't play.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take my ball and go home.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: He is Eric Hartman doing the ski guys.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going home.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, literally that's that's a pretty good comparison.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: See, I'm I'm always a guy that
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: don't doesn't understand unless you are really willing to die on that hill.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: You don't really mess with billionaire or billion conversations or things like the shield, you don't, the shield never loses, you're not a mean.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I know NIL is making a very hard push right now with the
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: NCAAs pretty damn big are you gonna win that battle like I don't know if that's if any one can win the battle SEC or Big 10 would probably be the ones to do it.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: So kudos to you, but you know it kind of almost feels like a Nick Saben lead type of thing like it really feels like he's the head of this charge because he's been the the biggest vocal guy in terms of Not liking the NIL and everything that's been going on and wishes that it stays the same because his ball, you know, they're not playing with his ball anymore.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're not.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a different shape ball max
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: And my guess is adding on that part of the reason Nick Sabin left, obviously, you know, he retired from coaching college football, but he still is active in the media and he still does a lot of those things adjacent to the game.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, part of me does wonder about that.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think the biggest elephant in the room this whole thing is NIL.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about what it could look like, you know, as the SEC invalid and doing this, whatever.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_02]: But NIL has, you know, dramatically changed what the college football landscape looks like.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: Last three national championships.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: zero SEC teams even in the game right like it's that's what I was going to say that the the last cause because they they get so high and mighty and like over the best conference like it just means more all that good stuff.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: The last time in SEC team played in the championship game and yeah it was Georgia and they won.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_03]: It was the day Joe Woods got fired as the Brown defense coordinator.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_03]: We went through the entire gym Schwartz era of the Brown's defense and then hired a new
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: The millisecond everyone could pay for players and not just the SEC, it's a whole more even playing field.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: It is and I think that's a really interesting perspective when you think about why the SEC could be doing this because, you know, prior to NIL, it was Alabama.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: LSU obviously Clemson went and I'm pretty sure in 2018 they beat.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Alabama yeah Georgia had a couple titles there maybe the first year of NL but yeah so yeah so the National Champions first year of NL Georgia Georgia or back to back years and then it was Michigan Ohio State in Indiana like I think a lot of Yes, I wanted to ask you guys as we get into NL and the a million different obstacles
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you made a great point, Max.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_03]: It is the wild wild west.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: We have to all admit that like college football is in the same as when we'd wake up and watch Lee Corso as kids with the power five and teams played in their regions and games made sense and volleyball players weren't traveling across country on a Wednesday to play a big 10 match up with things that don't make sense has the NCAA just lost all ability to govern.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: Is that the issue?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that's the, is there a point of fix it where I know that there was the, the summit of the Mount that President Trump, how the couple of months ago, trying to get the meeting of the minds with college sports and stuff like, is there even a route back for this even being fixable?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know who's fix it?
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think you have a guy who's,
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Giving you and this is there it's probably gonna piss some people off though.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm out to say this But you have the guy who's showing you how you should operate it Beyond Sanders.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think is the blueprint for how you should want to go towards and in terms of the NIL deal like
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: You need a name, you need a big name, or you need a personality a personality that we talked about earlier.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: You need somebody.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's been build your team's like, No, no, no, we've gone four names.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I said, you know what he wants.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: But in terms of like, like you mentioned, evening out the playing field, if you've got some of these like, imagine a lady in town with some of these guys who come from these out of nowhere places, go back home.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: And build up a team.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_03]: If you're Kent State and you haven't won a football game, this decade, is it really that crazy to hire Josh Cribson to head coach and build back up the loving George and I go and green right and he did, Eddie George did a great job at Tennessee State right before, like even if you have to go and take a smaller head coaching job to build back up to your school, like that has to be the way the schools go, right?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I think Mike and the Ohio big Ben get him as close to the
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right, you need to get these persons because everyone's the media.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: You need people who are known in this space Like it's gonna be as much as the league wants to go younger and like and I We're going back to an NFL kind of like with the names and stuff like that I don't know how it works because You don't really want that like you want you want to be an up and coming.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of going off the rails with that But I do think it's a
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: it's going to be more fun because there's going to be a can't like one day can't might be good who knows?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say do you turn the PlayStation off?
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: You guys think do you think the overall product of college football since and I'll just talk just strictly on field do you think the product has gotten noticeably worse?
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: I don't eat, I don't know if it's going to be worse.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I'm saying.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think it makes up for a lot.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a much different sport though.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely different.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, duh, but like I do think there is something to like seeing how those kids would develop and like how many kids will look different and had they just stayed in the place for one more year.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_03]: And like it does.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: It is cool though in a way Max because it does create the one year when Florida state like, oh, they're a top five team.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_03]: They got they brought in 15 of the top 45 kids from the portal.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, like, so that can't happen.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_03]: So in a way, I do think so you're right.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: It is better because like there is more of a variance.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like there was a day in a time where like Alabama could not have been bad.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_03]: It was it like I could have been their coach and they would have one time games, you know.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: They couldn't have been bad in the vast majority of teams couldn't, couldn't have done anything to compete with.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and now you see like the Vanderbilt's of the world popping up in the SEC like Duke went to the SEC championship like random teams So I wanted to ask you guys that though speaking of championships because Max like we all know the day in a time where there wasn't like a BCS
- 35:00[SPEAKER_03]: We're the A people had their national champion and big place sports that were put out who they thought and you see us somehow becomes a national champion somewhere there in the middle When we're in a world where okay if the SEC is not in the NCAA and that's a separate entity and they're not the recognized NCAA champion They're not competing with the teams.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: I think some of that would be illegal or you can only play like a maximum amount of games against non NCAA teams
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: how do you think the world changes with national championships and team is making playoffs and future playoff structures?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: Could we see if the SEC ever really did do this?
- 35:32[SPEAKER_03]: Would the big 10 consider doing something similar?
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: Would Notre Dame hop over, like we talked about pre-show?
- 35:37[SPEAKER_03]: Where?
- 35:37[SPEAKER_03]: I guess it was really hard to predict.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: If you had a crystal ball, what do you think college football looks like five years from now?
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: In a world where we're hypothetically saying the SEC does to seed.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's tough.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: The first two things that come to mind.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, I think if the SEC was when separate and they had success, financially winning a national championship, whatever it may be, I think other teams would start to do the same, start to fall suit, if they could.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then what wind up happening is the playoff where what was it was at six before it went to 12 or was just at four, four, four to 12.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but regardless now in the 12 team, you have conference winners guaranteed a spot.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's what's gonna happen.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: If everybody else goes their separate way, guess what?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: Your conference winner is still gonna play each other.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: It almost doesn't matter, but one league that is very different but does something moderately similar as the Champions League and soccer, where you have the top teams to top X amount of teams from each of these leagues in Spain, in France, in Germany, in England, where they, you know,
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: playing their conference, playing their league, whatever, and they'll have exhibitions, they'll have group stages in the Champions League, whatever.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_02]: But the top teams in the Champions League move on, and then it's a global, actually, much to be here.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: But in regard to that, it's a global Europeian tournament with the top teams from each of these areas.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: I honestly think the NCR, NCA slash SEC could learn something from that.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it would be really cool if the NCR, the SEC was,
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: they thought, you know, we're better than everybody.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go somewhere else.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take our top team and put it against the top team for everybody, but the SEC.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: And that was a national championship.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's really going to be fun.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think what happened though, I think it'd be the opposite in a way is I think in a world where the big 10 doesn't follow suit and do the same thing.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think they would do everything with their conference TV deals that they're going to throw as much weight as possible on the couch while playoff to be like, hey, they're not getting in.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: We don't want them in it all.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_03]: We're like, you, what's, let's fill out autobids of our people staying in NCAA, they'll almost in a way like how, like the way outside of majors, shrubs away, shuns away the leg and I think that's how it would go.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think we try to blackball the SEC.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: interesting.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think they would do that too.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think they make the most sense.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: So for the Ohio lens though, how do you guys think this would is going to affect Ohio State?
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: Whether it comes in a world where the SEC does do this or it does in, the big 10 moves because I feel like if the SEC does defect and there is a world where they get blackboard a little bit, which is what I think would happen personally, does Ohio State, which is already one of the biggest colleges in the country, we become the leader of sports.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it opens up a door for someone to snatch it.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: It'll just open up doors to become powerhouse teams, like Indiana could maybe turn and be, or you know, you're just looking for, if it's not Alabama, well now Ohio State is the new Alabama.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Indiana's the new LSU.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean, but that's interesting because you that that would be true.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: It opened up somebody to be the lead the a new leader quote.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Who do you guys consider the leader overall then if the SEC?
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing changes right now.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: I still think Ohio State's up there.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it price still is a hotel sale already on it.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: You're looking like cross sports success.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like if you're featuring everything proud is Ohio State.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: Probably Ohio State.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think football specifically, like, it's difficult.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think LSU, especially now with Lane Kiffin coming in, he's kind of a younger coach and more in tune with the younger recruiting classes.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like that might overtake Ohio State if you're looking overall, not better team, just like best recruiting destination.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Alabama and the past, but times are changing.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if people don't love Caitlyn, but I don't know.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Caitlyn the boy is going to keep on doing his thing.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I need final thoughts on this merger.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: And if you guys want to talk about the NL,
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do think there's a world where if the SEC does go its separate way from the NCA, a lot of people will still want to play in the SEC because of the prior perception.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the perception is still pretty strong now, but with looking at national champions and players or teams in the national championship, it's weakening, I mean, I don't think it's dramatically going to change much.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think, especially with the Southern kids, too.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's always me that draw one to play for those bigger schools.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we're going to take a quick break here on Big Play Cleveland Live.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be right back talking about the king.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: Today's decision day is tomorrow is never going to happen.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to retire.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: Stay here to find out.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back on Big Play Cleveland Live.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back to the Big Play Cleveland show, Jack O'Rourke here alongside Max Lobb and Chef Zay and guys we talked about it right before the break home run Derby last night, Inc. Leave them the guards exploded for 13 runs in the first to a four game set against the twins.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_03]: We saw two homer knights at a PD helpin and Reese Hoskins, Bizana through an in Patrick Bailey.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I missed in someone else too, but a ridiculous line for the guards, PD helpin.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_03]: first two creator home runs came into the game yesterday with I believe a below 200 career batting average and one career RBI and about 70 played appearances walks out of it with a Homer and four RBI's down his career two homers rather.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_03]: So a great start to repeat you guys.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: Because you're almost generalized in sports as we're getting close to the trade deadline like every game matters that much more every game without hose your mirror as matters that much more every game Angie Martinez is rehabbing matters that much more You're pushing where you're going to be at the standings two weeks for two weeks from yesterday on August 3 when the trade deadline comes about how much can you truly weigh In offensive performance where you go off like this against an arm like Joe Ryan
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean it's I don't want to compare you guys have seen the viral I guess it's technically a video for the screenshot like Chris Paul had to huge three to cut the lead to 42.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like I don't want to compare it to that because you know you don't take seven home runs lightly especially a two home run game from a single player.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, I still think there's bigger issues at hand that you, again, we talked last week about what the ceiling of this team could be just if everybody's healthy if you don't make any moves to the trade deadline.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like you're winning World Series, right?
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like maybe even make the ALCS.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: You have to try and make aim move or moves to get there because I mean Travis Pazon has been playing awesome.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, everybody's been playing really well.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: And there very clearly is a lot of talent in that lineup when everybody's healthy when Jose is back.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you continue to hover like you are you still have to be aggressive at the deadline or buy the deadline I should just scare you.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let me out.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean because you're the baseball guy here.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: Does it scare you as a fan?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: When the bats get hot like this around the time when you know you could actually use a bat like it
- 41:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, in a way, yeah, because I mean, it's no secret that like the pirate series outside of an ending in a half against their miserable bullpen.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_03]: Your offense was pretty putrid.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it has been great out of the break.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like you're exactly dominating.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_03]: You had guys like Cleo Watson carrying you through stretches right before the break came.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: The offense is not in a great place.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, the biggest and most concerning thing for me.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_03]: And it's a bit of a loser mentality out of me.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm gonna put my hand up.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm gonna dox myself as a loser ahead of time.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: But,
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: Reese Huskins is a guy who I've always kind of had issues with of being like I don't know if Reese Huskins really is a answer if you are to make the playoffs this year like Reese Huskins isn't the defender he used to be Reese Huskins has struggled a little bit to knock the bottom of the ball yard he had two out yesterday So it's like okay maybe Reese Huskins is showing up his roster spot and he's making his last punch to fight before the deadline But guys, I'm gonna throw a name out to you because we're turning it more towards the trade deadline because you asked Max like
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: what can we do?
- 42:41[SPEAKER_03]: How can we make this a LCS team or move on even further into the future?
- 42:45[SPEAKER_03]: There's a guy on the reds name Spencer Steer who I am like, I wake up and I think about him in a Cleveland jersey.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I do every single morning.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_03]: I say my prayers and I look at the post around the wall of him with the the grock guardian jersey on top of him.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: Spencer steer righty hitter can play first a little bit of third and the corner outfield positions I think you have to add a righty bat to the line up.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of people out there I was talking to my friend Ethan about yesterday like who might like Nathaniel low who's lefty Who's also on the reds like I don't think it makes much sense because we already have a plethora of lighties of lefties rather
- 43:16[SPEAKER_03]: In the lineup right now, I think you got to go out and get a righty bat like that to try and supplement this line up and maybe it's going to be internal to I think I think that's what you could see here I would not be shocked if you see bizarre Travis Pazona playing center field come play off time.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: I have seen people say yeah moving to the out.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: I, to the outfield in general, yes.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's got enough motion to play centered, but I mean, he hasn't really proved in the endfield.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: Um, because I like having quite on the corner too, which is he's more natural.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: There's, is my opinion.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: On Hell, now is coming and he is coming real damn soon for Cleveland fans.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's the most important thing to watch out for.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_03]: shortstop.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if they'll put him in second or short.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: What they'll do with him in rocchio.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_03]: But that's probably going to be your middle and feel to finish out the year.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe Ralphie Velasquez finds his way up here.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_03]: But man, like I think there's going to be a lot of exciting things coming.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: Just I don't know how much of it's going to be external for this organization over the next two weeks.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_02]: How much does this next, let's just say weak, obviously you finish series against Twins and then you travel the SINCY.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, travel Tampa, then you travel the SINCY.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: How much do those next, I think it'd be nine games, matter in the buyers and sellers discussion?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: Because we talked last week about being buyers or being sellers and the guards play okay over the past week, but we're on the same page now, it's not seller time, it's buyer time or do nothing.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Is there a world where the guard struggled the next week and a half that game game lead by the white socks goes to four or five let's just say over the next week where you have to start selling or if you're hovering You still feel confident
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's just so tough because this is the most like wide open.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_03]: There's so much parity and maybe it's just the lack of success.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: Your most teams will like look at the red socks who were left dead to rights earlier in the year.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_03]: What 14 now 13 14 14 game winning streak Tigers were one of the worst teams in baseball, well over 500, just like the red socks.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_03]: They go on the hottest teams in baseball over the last like.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_03]: month and a half if you're grouping out of them in great the last week or so but yeah grouping over the larger frame they've been a really hot team over that period of time I think I come and go entering last weekend it was either 23 or 24 of the 30 teams in the MLB like we're within three games will play out sparse like that so it's just so tight where I don't think you see this team fall far enough out of it where they're ever truly selling I like I don't think
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: At most, the most I could see a scene doing is like literally, hey, if you lose out before the deadline, you might rip Stephen Kwan off to someone to see if someone needs an outfield or hey, you can try and polish him off and keep every coldness hair together and say, hey, he's in 240 now, you know, and deal him off for something, but I don't think you ever truly sell.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_03]: The opposite though is I could see you if you can rip it off against the twins here, kind of bury them a little bit as they're getting bucks and back.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_03]: prime yourself in the division race.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think you could launch yourself into the for sure buying though.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm not just standing pattern doing a little move.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, I feel like if they stay where they're at now, they're a game back.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: They still should buy.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I say aggressively by too.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm in the biggest believer, how is there a mirror to stake in two extensions in this town?
- 46:04[SPEAKER_03]: At a certain point in time, you have to go out and get him something.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: You have to try while you're one time and go ahead and get him a world series or to the closest you can.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like they genuinely, the last time
- 46:15[SPEAKER_03]: the Cleveland baseball organization tried to win the world series was 2017 and when can our CEO.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the one I went out and got at one for the three or sixty million dollar deal.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: They have not tried to win a world series since then.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of embarrassing when you have a guy like Jose Ramirez who's taken multiple massive hundred million literally a hundred million dollar discounts to stay here.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: Can I ask another crazy high-bathed ago because we talked to the one crazy high-bathed ago last time and bringing Frankie back, right?
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I'd be all on board.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to lend or bad.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: But there is one guy that people feel like he needs to go branch out like a butterfly and try to be, you know, in a competitive team because of his name, you kind of get where I'm going with this a little bit.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think I could, what would it take?
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: for them to take a swing at a guy like Mike Trout.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_03]: See, that's what's funny is I think it would cost less to get Mike Trout than Francisco Lindor.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's a little bit obviously factoring in effect that Trout is hurt a lot.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like it's he's not really like an probably not really in every day's center field or any more considering you want to keep him healthy.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_03]: Whereas like Frankie is still even if the bat goes up and down and times like Frankie's going to offer you a premium at short stop, he's like has like I think six or seven more years on his contract.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's a switchheader like you can get him from both sides of the play.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_03]: fast-hints of Francisco Lendor that I think would make him actually more valuable on the trade market.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think the issue is like Trout had a hot start to the year.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: He got her actually.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, I would love to be honest and say I knew exactly where he's at right now.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he's back or not.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_03]: He might still be on the IELD this moment any time.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_03]: I wish I could tell you if he was or wasn't.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that a trout is like a...
- 47:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's like a...
- 47:48[SPEAKER_03]: 4% chance you trade for Frankie Lendor.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's like a 1% chance you trade for my job is I'm obviously shit in one hand wishing in the other.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: But like you just imagine how scary the lineup would be with with Jose and Trial.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_03]: Can you imagine if at any point since Lendor walked out the door, what was that after COVID, I think we kept him for COVID and traded him before the 2021 season.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like, Jose has done everything you've ever watched, post-coloured, which is arguably been some of his best baseball in Cleveland without any protection.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like, most teams, if Josh Nailer or Kyle Menzarta was the guy hitting behind Jose Ramirez, you go, ha, and you laugh at him, you know?
- 48:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we haven't seen him in this decade with that kind of a guy behind him or in front of him.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it would be the things it would do for Jose to see a trout or a linda right there with him.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, I think that's where you see Jose become a 45-home rumbet.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: We just need Travis Kelsey.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: Look, tell Taylor break off a check.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: Get up to Dolans.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you can, about matter of fact, there's going to be a big ol' spot that you can build a mansion pretty soon.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: We're, we're on the water.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the water.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the water.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_03]: We'll say, I will say.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_03]: Livy done has tweeted about the Cleveland Guardians in the last three days.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I don't know if we're good reason.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_03]: But hey, I'm saying, we're in the realm, maybe Paul Skies, I'm just one.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we are.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I don't know.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: I look at this team like you said very clearly right now Sailing is capped.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think this is a better team than most I do yet two years ago They lose the Yankees nails.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, so I don't think this is a better team.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if the ceiling is higher either If you truly do want to win a world series or compete for a spot in the world series, you have to buy
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think if they hover, they will buy.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think you would take a dramatic turn for them to sell with you.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, they might even be starting petrary at this point.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's the one thing known as really addressing is like, powers, the one thing that's obviously a real big concern getting a bullpen arm, like everyone's talk about that for a few months now.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_03]: Gavin Williams has not been the Gavin Williams that he was for the first two months of the year.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: I'm probably higher on Tanner body than most people, but in general, with his lack of putaway stuff, I'm never going to rely on Tanner body as my one-one, even if he's paid like it.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_03]: Parker Messick is so young where you, I mean, he threw 40 innings in the bigs last year.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like, again, I love Parker Messick, but it's real tough to ask him to throw 200 innings this year, then go do it in the playoffs.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm at a point where I think you need to go and get another starting
- 50:11[SPEAKER_02]: I agree with you.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, something has to be done whether it's offensively defensively or both.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that you can't look at this team compared to 2024.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_02]: 2024 and say I feel more confident walking in against two ever.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just say the Aggies.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_02]: Whoever.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: Then I did two years ago.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_02]: You can't comment.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: No, you're probably right on.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_03]: I would say that that exact part.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Max, we're going to kick you out of here.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not even going to even throw a boot to you.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to take a break here on Big Play Cleveland Live.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back to wrap it up with Fandel in a minute.

- 51:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know we're feeling good after the guard goes, got the witness yesterday, last night and hit a bunch of homeruns, Zay, who is your dinger pick for the day?
