- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of the Fair Territory Extravaganza.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Monday Fair Territory Post Thanksgiving. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I am Ken Rosendahl here with you for the next
- 0:13Speaker 1: I don't know, twenty five minutes or so. And this
- 0:16Speaker 1: is the week, the week when things generally generally start
- 0:21Speaker 1: to ramp up in Major League Baseball's off season. This
- 0:24Speaker 1: is the week leading to the Winter Meetings, and you
- 0:27Speaker 1: will see certainly increased conversation. Whether it leads to increased
- 0:30Speaker 1: results remains to be seen. Over the Thanksgiving holidays, starting
- 0:34Speaker 1: Thanksgiving Eve and going right through the weekend, we had
- 0:37Speaker 1: two reported signings. We're going to get into both of
- 0:40Speaker 1: them today. We're also going to get into kind of
- 0:43Speaker 1: a Winter Meetings preview. Biggest storylines that'll be in the
- 0:46Speaker 1: inside Dish. But let's start off with what happens over
- 0:49Speaker 1: the holiday because we haven't been on the air since then,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and start with the most recent signing, and that would
- 0:55Speaker 1: be the Orioles two year, twenty eight million dollar deal
- 0:58Speaker 1: for Ryan Helsley with an opt out after the first year. Hellsley,
- 1:02Speaker 1: of course drew some interest as a starter as well.
- 1:05Speaker 1: The Detroit Tigers were among the teams looking at him
- 1:08Speaker 1: as a starter, But ultimately he goes back to the
- 1:10Speaker 1: role in which he is most familiar, a role in
- 1:13Speaker 1: which he took a step back last year, first with
- 1:16Speaker 1: the Saint Louis Cardinals and then especially with the New
- 1:19Speaker 1: York Mets. But his peripherals, his underlying metrics remained quite strong.
- 1:23Speaker 1: He throws hard. He is a guy that teams still
- 1:26Speaker 1: believe in. He had a good market quite obviously to
- 1:29Speaker 1: get fourteen million a year for two years, that's decent
- 1:32Speaker 1: money for a closer. Not what he would have gotten
- 1:34Speaker 1: if he had been a free agent after twenty twenty four, perhaps,
- 1:38Speaker 1: but still for Hellsley, a good outcome. Now for the Orioles,
- 1:42Speaker 1: this is the latest of several moves that they have
- 1:46Speaker 1: made this offseason. They have been I would suggest the
- 1:50Speaker 1: busiest team at least in terms of results of any
- 1:53Speaker 1: thus far. And I'll show you what I'm talking about here,
- 1:56Speaker 1: because they've already made four additions, starting off with Andrew Kischen.
- 2:00Speaker 1: You remember they traded for him from the Chicago Cubs,
- 2:03Speaker 1: then exercised his option. They had traded him to the
- 2:05Speaker 1: Cubs and then brought him back Leodi Tavers enters, their
- 2:09Speaker 1: center field mixx now with Colton Kowser, Taylor Ward, the
- 2:12Speaker 1: big and controversial trade for Grayson Rodriguez, and now Hellsley,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the closure that they needed with Felix Bautista out for
- 2:20Speaker 1: at least much of the season. They still need to
- 2:24Speaker 1: keep going with the bullpen ins particular, they still need
- 2:27Speaker 1: to round it out because basically they traded most of
- 2:30Speaker 1: their relievers, some of whom are becoming free agents during
- 2:33Speaker 1: last season. Now, the biggest thing with the Oriols, the
- 2:36Speaker 1: biggest thing that remains the biggest thing that has haunted
- 2:39Speaker 1: them since really last off season, is their lack so
- 2:44Speaker 1: far of a top of the rotation starting pitcher, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: frankly I would like to see them add more than
- 2:50Speaker 1: one starter. But they definitely are team that we should
- 2:53Speaker 1: watch for the top of the free agent market. I'm
- 2:56Speaker 1: talking about from ber Valdez, Rangers Suarez perhaps to am
- 3:00Speaker 1: I also they are a team to watch with regard
- 3:04Speaker 1: to trades. This is a team that if trades are
- 3:07Speaker 1: made for starting pitchers, if some of these guys become available,
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Orioles should be in that equation. There's also a
- 3:14Speaker 1: guy I wrote about today my notes called Cody Ponce,
- 3:17Speaker 1: who is coming back from Korea. I wrote that he's
- 3:19Speaker 1: probably going to get three years, thirty to forty million.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's the kind of guy too, that the Orioles should
- 3:25Speaker 1: look at as maybe a secondary piece. So if they
- 3:28Speaker 1: signed Valdez, for instance, and Michaelias goes back with Valdez
- 3:31Speaker 1: to the Houston Days and then acquired Cody Ponce as well,
- 3:34Speaker 1: they could do that just by spending money not making
- 3:37Speaker 1: any trades. That would be an interesting combination for them.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And of course they also could remain active for a bat,
- 3:45Speaker 1: perhaps in centerfield, perhaps Kyle Tucker, another guy Michael Oias
- 3:49Speaker 1: knows well from Houston. He drafted Kyle Tucker with the
- 3:53Speaker 1: fourth pick of the twenty and fifteen draft. So that's
- 3:56Speaker 1: the Orioles now sticking in the Al East. The move
- 3:59Speaker 1: that happened Thanksgiving Eve, this one was rather fascinating too,
- 4:03Speaker 1: even more fascinating than the Hell's They move. And that's
- 4:07Speaker 1: of course Dylan cease to the Blue Jays cease seven
- 4:10Speaker 1: years are reported two hundred and ten million. There are
- 4:13Speaker 1: deferrals in that deal, as I reported, and then Mitch
- 4:16Speaker 1: Badnen of the Athletic followed with this seeing the deferrals
- 4:19Speaker 1: are expected to reduce the present value AAV of the
- 4:21Speaker 1: deal to around twenty six million per year, still the
- 4:25Speaker 1: largest pitching contract in Blue Jay's history. So with the deferrals,
- 4:30Speaker 1: we probably should look at it if it's indeed twenty
- 4:32Speaker 1: six per year as more of a seven year, one
- 4:35Speaker 1: hundred and eighty two million dollar deal for Cease, still
- 4:38Speaker 1: really healthy, a really good deal for a guy who
- 4:42Speaker 1: always seems to have a lot of interest. People love
- 4:46Speaker 1: him in the industry, and yet his results at times
- 4:50Speaker 1: have been inconsistent. Top five cy Young finish in twenty
- 4:53Speaker 1: twenty two and twenty twenty four, and yet the results,
- 4:57Speaker 1: as I just said, haven't always been there, and it's
- 5:00Speaker 1: curious to people why that happens. There are some reasons.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Keith Law has written about that for the athletic, but
- 5:05Speaker 1: Cease for any negatives you might have with him, the
- 5:09Speaker 1: positives is or the positives are, he always takes the ball.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Here's his bio one hundred and sixty ninth overall pick
- 5:16Speaker 1: in twenty fourteen, debut in twenty nineteen, career milestones, five
- 5:21Speaker 1: straight seasons, thirty two plus starts. We'll get into that
- 5:24Speaker 1: al War leader in twenty twenty two. That's the year
- 5:26Speaker 1: he finished second in the cy Young five straight seasons,
- 5:29Speaker 1: two hundred strikeouts, that's impressive. And then here he is
- 5:32Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. And this is what I'm talking about.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Four point five to five era on a team in
- 5:37Speaker 1: which Nick Pivetta pitched really well and had a good
- 5:40Speaker 1: ra but Cease, for whatever reasons, didn't have that. It
- 5:44Speaker 1: wasn't great out of the stretch, just seems to give
- 5:47Speaker 1: up hits at inopportune times at points in his career.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But I want to show you the durability because this,
- 5:54Speaker 1: to me, is the thing that recommends Dylan Cease the
- 5:57Speaker 1: most since twenty twenty one, when he really became a
- 6:00Speaker 1: regular starter most games started in the last five seasons.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And here's what's interesting about this chart. Cees, Burrios and Gosman.
- 6:08Speaker 1: What team do they all play for? The Toronto Blue Jays.
- 6:11Speaker 1: They're the top three on this list, well, Gosmin tied
- 6:14Speaker 1: with Logan Webb and Patrick Corbyn. But the Jays have
- 6:17Speaker 1: assembled a group of guys who should pitch, should take
- 6:21Speaker 1: the ball. Treya Savage next season likely will be on
- 6:25Speaker 1: some kind of innings limit. He'll still be only a rookie.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And then you have as well, Shane Bieber first full
- 6:31Speaker 1: season off Tommy John I don't know if they can
- 6:33Speaker 1: expect him to go two hundred and twenty five innings.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So the Jays are in really good shape here with
- 6:38Speaker 1: their rotation, and the question then becomes, what are they
- 6:42Speaker 1: going to do next, because this is a team that
- 6:44Speaker 1: really has a variety of ways they can go. Is
- 6:47Speaker 1: it going to be Boba Schet, Is it going to
- 6:49Speaker 1: be Kyle Tucker? Most likely we will see them get
- 6:53Speaker 1: a reliever of some ilk, whether it's Edwin Diaz or
- 6:56Speaker 1: Pete Fairbanks, someone along those lines. Devin Williams. We'll talk
- 7:00Speaker 1: more about the relievers as we go on here, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: the Blue Jays obviously quite eager to defend their American
- 7:07Speaker 1: League championship and quite eager to get where they did
- 7:11Speaker 1: not get this season, even though they were just two
- 7:13Speaker 1: outs away their first World Series title since nineteen ninety three.
- 7:19Speaker 1: One of the things sticking with the al least I
- 7:20Speaker 1: mentioned this in my notes column today, it's about the
- 7:23Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Rays. Now, the Rays are not going to
- 7:26Speaker 1: be as active as the Blue Jays and the Orioles
- 7:28Speaker 1: and the Yankees and the Red Sox. But the Rays
- 7:31Speaker 1: are a team that will make moves. We know that
- 7:35Speaker 1: they always seem to make moves, and Brandon Lao coming
- 7:38Speaker 1: up on the last year of his contract at eleven
- 7:41Speaker 1: point five million. They've talked about trading him for several
- 7:44Speaker 1: years now, and this maybe will be the year they
- 7:46Speaker 1: do it, given the need that some teams have for
- 7:49Speaker 1: a left handed hitting middle infielder. That's what Lao is
- 7:52Speaker 1: and one of the better ones in the game when healthy.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Brandon Lao is number three on the Rays all time
- 7:59Speaker 1: home runless But let's not get too sentimental when we're
- 8:02Speaker 1: talking about raised players. They're willing to trade them at
- 8:05Speaker 1: any point. So Brandon lau could go. The Rays then
- 8:09Speaker 1: would be left with a whole second base that they
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't really have an internal solution for. But here's a
- 8:15Speaker 1: guy that would fit for Pittsburgh, a team that's more
- 8:17Speaker 1: likely in my opinion, to get their left handed bats
- 8:21Speaker 1: making trades then signing free agents. San Francisco needs a
- 8:24Speaker 1: second base and there are other teams that could be
- 8:27Speaker 1: in this mix as well. The Athletics are also looking
- 8:30Speaker 1: for second base and third base potentially, so there are
- 8:34Speaker 1: three teams in the Al East, and we haven't even
- 8:36Speaker 1: talked about the Yankees and the Red Sox. We're going
- 8:39Speaker 1: to get more into them as we go along here.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The Red Sox already have made a big move for
- 8:43Speaker 1: Sonny Gray, seemingly solving their biggest rotation need. I would
- 8:48Speaker 1: still like to see them get one more and then
- 8:50Speaker 1: we have to see what they're going to do with
- 8:51Speaker 1: their bats. Are they going to trade them? Are I'm
- 8:54Speaker 1: talking about some of their outfielders. Are they going to
- 8:56Speaker 1: go resign Alex Gregman? Are they going to be other
- 8:59Speaker 1: bats in their mix? Sean mccatton of mass Live dot
- 9:02Speaker 1: com reporting over the weekend, they may have some payroll restrictions.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Every team talks about payroll restrictions this time of year.
- 9:09Speaker 1: They're building in the excuses. But anyway, we will be
- 9:12Speaker 1: back with more on the Yankees in particular, and a
- 9:15Speaker 1: lot of other winter storylines when we come back with
- 9:19Speaker 1: the Inside Dish after this KP.
- 9:23Speaker 2: The website is Chubbyshorts dot com. The brand is Chubby's,
- 9:27Speaker 2: but it's not just shorts.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, don't be fooled by the website's name.
- 9:32Speaker 2: This is a one stop shop for all things that
- 9:34Speaker 2: I love swimming trunks, golf polos, and even flannels.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It fits me perfectly.
- 9:40Speaker 2: One stop shop is the place to go. Yes, Sir KP.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I've been wearing their flannel overshirt. It's like my favorite
- 9:46Speaker 2: flannel and your softest sweater having a little baby. It's
- 9:49Speaker 2: the best of both worlds. Classic flannel look with the
- 9:52Speaker 2: warmth of a fleece. And we know it's that time
- 9:54Speaker 2: of year to pull that off. The Chubby's flannel overshirt.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It feels like your favorite flannel with the warmth of
- 10:00Speaker 2: a cozy sweater. And for a limited time, Chubbies is

- 10:12Speaker 2: bigger markdown during their exclusive Black Friday sale. Just head
- 10:16Speaker 2: to chubbiesshorts dot com and make sure to support the
- 10:20Speaker 2: show by telling them that Foul Territory sent you. Well
- 10:24Speaker 2: well well, well.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, time now for the inside Dish, and as promised,
- 10:33Speaker 1: we're going to take you through the top five storylines
- 10:36Speaker 1: leading to the Winter Meetings. This will apply, of course
- 10:38Speaker 1: to the Winter Meetings, but this is the stuff to watch.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And we'll start at the top of the free agent market,
- 10:44Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker and even Cody Bellinger. Let's talk about the
- 10:47Speaker 1: biggest bats available. Tucker is a guy we haven't heard
- 10:51Speaker 1: much about so far. Doesn't mean there's not a lot
- 10:53Speaker 1: happening with him, and you're going to see teams jump
- 10:57Speaker 1: out for him, and they're going to team be teams
- 10:59Speaker 1: that jump out for And there are other bats in
- 11:01Speaker 1: this market as well, Schwarber and Bashett and Bregman. But
- 11:05Speaker 1: Tucker and Bellinger both left handed hitters, both outfielders for
- 11:08Speaker 1: the most part. Bellinger, of course, can play first base
- 11:10Speaker 1: as well. These are perhaps the two most interesting guys,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and the New York Yankees should be in the middle
- 11:17Speaker 1: of both of them, at least, talking about Bellinger at
- 11:21Speaker 1: the very very least. Now here's Tucker. He is a
- 11:24Speaker 1: guy who is just twenty eight years old as of
- 11:27Speaker 1: right now. He'll be twenty nine in January. Four time
- 11:30Speaker 1: all start, two times silver slugger. We know who Kyle
- 11:32Speaker 1: Tucker is a five tool player, and there's been debate
- 11:35Speaker 1: among certain segments of the Yankee fan base and the athletics.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Chris Kershner has wrote about this as well. Is he
- 11:42Speaker 1: a better fit for the Yankees than Cody Bellinger. It
- 11:45Speaker 1: seems to me the Yankees are more inclined to sign Bellinger.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And you look at his vitals right there. Here's a
- 11:51Speaker 1: guy that has had an up and down career, but
- 11:54Speaker 1: lately back on the upswing seat, twenty seventeen Rookie of
- 11:57Speaker 1: the Year, twenty eighteen NLCSMVTY nineteen NLMVP, twenty twenty World
- 12:02Speaker 1: Series Champion, and in the last two seasons has re
- 12:05Speaker 1: established himself after you remember getting non tendered by the Dodgers.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger is in many ways a perfect fit for
- 12:13Speaker 1: the Yankees. Now, he is not the better player. Kyle
- 12:16Speaker 1: Tucker is the better player. And yes, Tucker has had
- 12:19Speaker 1: some injuries the past two seasons and it's raised some
- 12:22Speaker 1: doubts about him, but they've been kind of flukish and
- 12:25Speaker 1: he is an all around type of guy, as is
- 12:27Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger. So I expect Tucker to do better, and
- 12:31Speaker 1: I expect the Yankees, if they don't end up with Bellinger,
- 12:35Speaker 1: to be scrambling a little bit because I don't know
- 12:36Speaker 1: that they want to pay Tucker. The ideal situation for
- 12:40Speaker 1: the Yankees my opinion here is sign Bellinger, sign am I,
- 12:44Speaker 1: the Japanese right handed pitcher who is just twenty eight
- 12:47Speaker 1: years old, and then sign maybe a closer. I don't
- 12:51Speaker 1: know which one it would be. But if they do
- 12:53Speaker 1: all that, they're having a pretty good offseason. So Tucker
- 12:56Speaker 1: and Bellinger, it's going to be interesting to see how
- 12:58Speaker 1: these guys land. For sure, will Tucker get the four
- 13:02Speaker 1: hundred million, I don't know. We're gonna have to see
- 13:05Speaker 1: how that all plays out. All right. Now, the NL East,
- 13:07Speaker 1: that's another interesting storyline here because of all the action
- 13:11Speaker 1: taking place with the top contenders. I'm talking about the Mets,
- 13:15Speaker 1: the Braves, and the Phillies. Let's start with the Mets
- 13:18Speaker 1: because they are maybe the most interesting team going right
- 13:20Speaker 1: now due to the uncertainty of their roster. Now they've
- 13:24Speaker 1: made the trade Brandon Neimo from Marcus Simion, Pete Alonzo
- 13:27Speaker 1: and Edwin Diaz still free agents. They supposedly want to
- 13:31Speaker 1: retain them, but as we've seen, and as Will Simon
- 13:33Speaker 1: has written about in The Athletic, their level of sentiment
- 13:38Speaker 1: goes only so far. They were willing to trade Nemo,
- 13:40Speaker 1: who was a career met, a guy that was really
- 13:43Speaker 1: beloved by the fan base in many ways. If they
- 13:45Speaker 1: don't resign Alonzo, if they don't resign Diaz, at this point,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know that it can be considered a surprise.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But then the question becomes, then, what what are the
- 13:54Speaker 1: Mets going to do? They need starting pitching. We all
- 13:57Speaker 1: know that even if they don't trade code I Single,
- 14:00Speaker 1: which I expect they will, they're going to need to
- 14:02Speaker 1: sign a big starter for sure, maybe get another one
- 14:05Speaker 1: in some other way, and that's where they really need
- 14:09Speaker 1: to put their focus. They lose Diaz, they need a
- 14:12Speaker 1: closer as well. Maybe it's Devin Williams, maybe it's someone else.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But they're a team that you would expect is going
- 14:18Speaker 1: to be quite active now. The Phillies are also a
- 14:22Speaker 1: fascinating team because, like the Mets, they do not want
- 14:26Speaker 1: to keep the same mix. It hasn't worked, or at
- 14:28Speaker 1: least it hasn't resulted in a World Series title. Kyle Schwarber,
- 14:32Speaker 1: JT Real Muto their biggest free agents. If they resign them, okay,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but that's the same group, and maybe you feel like
- 14:39Speaker 1: you want to shake it up a little bit. Trading
- 14:42Speaker 1: Alec Bohm would be one way to do it. But
- 14:44Speaker 1: Schwarber is a guy that is so valuable to them.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I can't see them losing the hymn and going forward
- 14:50Speaker 1: in the same way unless they feel, Okay, we lose Schwarber,
- 14:55Speaker 1: we get Kyle Tucker, and maybe they are a dark
- 14:59Speaker 1: horse for Kyle Tucker in that regard. Then there are
- 15:02Speaker 1: the Atlanta Braves. Now, the Atlanta Braves already have re
- 15:04Speaker 1: signed Racil Iglesias, They've traded for Mauricio Duban, but we
- 15:09Speaker 1: are waiting for bigger things from them, and Iglesias fills
- 15:12Speaker 1: a need for sure the closer role. But they've been
- 15:16Speaker 1: a team that has been interested in adding not only
- 15:19Speaker 1: a shortstop but also a starting pitcher. They're also a
- 15:22Speaker 1: team with a chairman, Terry McGirk, who has said we
- 15:26Speaker 1: anticipate being a top five pay roll team. He's not
- 15:29Speaker 1: crying poor like the Yankees even the Red Sox to
- 15:32Speaker 1: an extent, He's saying, hey, we should be top five.
- 15:35Speaker 1: If that's the case, they should be spending and spending big.
- 15:39Speaker 1: We'll see what the Atlanta Braves do. And then the
- 15:41Speaker 1: Miami Marlins. The Marlins are a team that has been active,
- 15:45Speaker 1: at least in talking about free agents. Let's see what
- 15:49Speaker 1: the action results in. All right, Now, a couple of
- 15:51Speaker 1: other things to get to here, best remaining free agent closures.
- 15:54Speaker 1: We touched on this a little bit. Edwin Diaz is
- 15:57Speaker 1: the top guy in the market, is saddled with theying offer,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and I wonder how much that is going to affect
- 16:03Speaker 1: things for him. Let's say the Mets go in another direction.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Let's say the Blue Jays go in another direction. Well,
- 16:09Speaker 1: then what is it for Edwin Diaz? Where is his team?
- 16:12Speaker 1: I'm always hesitant to talk like that because there are
- 16:14Speaker 1: always teams in the mix. But will he get what
- 16:17Speaker 1: he is seeking, which is essentially the same deal he
- 16:20Speaker 1: had been on five years, one hundred and two million
- 16:22Speaker 1: before opting out? Other closers we've talked about then Devin Williams,
- 16:26Speaker 1: Robert Suarez, Pete Fairbanks, and then there was a whole
- 16:29Speaker 1: nother tier talking about guys like Luke Weaver, Emilio Pagan,
- 16:33Speaker 1: even Tyler Rogers not a closer. But these are quality
- 16:36Speaker 1: late inning relievers, guys that teams will want and I
- 16:40Speaker 1: would expect get paid fairly well. So the relief market
- 16:43Speaker 1: is one to watch for sure, as is. As we
- 16:46Speaker 1: move on here, the starting pitching market. Now we touched
- 16:49Speaker 1: on this as well from Bravaldez thirty two years old.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That's the only thing against him, well not maybe not
- 16:56Speaker 1: the only thing. He's had some questions about his clubhouse
- 16:59Speaker 1: presence as well well the kind of teammate he is.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But he is a guy that's been remarkably consistent. He's
- 17:04Speaker 1: a sinker baller. He's the kind of pitcher you would
- 17:07Speaker 1: want to have. He's fairly durable as well. So Valdez
- 17:11Speaker 1: I expect will be up around cease territory, whether you
- 17:15Speaker 1: consider it one hundred and eighty two million in present
- 17:17Speaker 1: value or to ten with the deferrals whatever, he's going
- 17:20Speaker 1: to do well. Maybe he doesn't get the years, but
- 17:23Speaker 1: in terms of aav that's what I'm talking about with
- 17:25Speaker 1: regard to cease am. I his posting is up on
- 17:29Speaker 1: January tewod so I don't expect we'll see him sign
- 17:32Speaker 1: the winter meetings probably will be Christmas week for him.
- 17:35Speaker 1: But he's a guy that is a little bit bigger
- 17:38Speaker 1: than Yamamoto, but not much, and he's had success over
- 17:41Speaker 1: in Japan. Of course, you see his twenty twenty five
- 17:44Speaker 1: stats there one point nine to two ERA one hundred
- 17:47Speaker 1: and seventy eight strikeouts and one hundred and sixty three
- 17:49Speaker 1: and two thirds innings. He's a guy the teams want,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and it's going to be interesting to see where he goes.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Because over the weekend there was a report by Buster
- 17:56Speaker 1: Only a ESPN saying the Giants, a team that had
- 17:59Speaker 1: been link to am I, are really looking at lower
- 18:02Speaker 1: cost options. Yankee fans immediately jumped on this thing. He's
- 18:06Speaker 1: there for us. Again, I caution you ever against saying well,
- 18:10Speaker 1: it's only one team involved. I'm sure there are other
- 18:13Speaker 1: teams looking at am I as well. So that's the
- 18:16Speaker 1: starting pitching market. And finally, the other part of the
- 18:20Speaker 1: starting pitching market, which is trades. Now, we've talked a
- 18:24Speaker 1: lot about Trek Scoubel and Freddie Peralta and Joe Ryan
- 18:27Speaker 1: and Sandy al Cantra and Edward Cabrera, all these guys
- 18:31Speaker 1: that could repeat could be traded. But the way it
- 18:36Speaker 1: was described to me by an executive over the weekend
- 18:39Speaker 1: is that in the cases of Schooble and Peralta and
- 18:43Speaker 1: maybe even Ryan, but Schooble and Peralta, for sure, they're
- 18:46Speaker 1: not going to be traded unless their teams get really
- 18:49Speaker 1: pushed their teams are not motivated to trade them. Now.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Could that change once the free agents are off the
- 18:56Speaker 1: board and certain teams are more desperate. Yes, and I
- 18:59Speaker 1: expect that at the winter meetings, if not before. You're
- 19:02Speaker 1: going to see reports of teams trying to push on
- 19:05Speaker 1: schooble In Peralta and Joe Ryan as well. But that
- 19:09Speaker 1: doesn't mean they're going to get traded. We hear this
- 19:12Speaker 1: all the time. We see this all the time. Teams
- 19:15Speaker 1: take interest in players, they entertain offers, but they don't
- 19:18Speaker 1: necessarily trade them. The Tigers are trying to win with
- 19:21Speaker 1: Trek Scoobel, The Brewers are trying to win with Freddy Peralta.
- 19:24Speaker 1: The Twins are a separate case because I don't know
- 19:28Speaker 1: what the heck they're doing. I'm not sure they know
- 19:30Speaker 1: what the heck they're doing, as they are just coming
- 19:33Speaker 1: off this situation where they sold part of the team
- 19:35Speaker 1: to investors to basically pay down their debt. What that
- 19:39Speaker 1: means for the payroll we don't know yet. We don't
- 19:42Speaker 1: know if they will want to trade Joe Ryan or
- 19:46Speaker 1: if at the other end of the spectrum they'll want
- 19:48Speaker 1: to maybe build up a little bit and put a
- 19:50Speaker 1: better product on the field since they've already alienated their
- 19:53Speaker 1: fan base to a great extent. So all of this
- 19:57Speaker 1: with regard to the starting pitching market in which pictures
- 20:00Speaker 1: get traded, should be clearer after the free agent sign
- 20:04Speaker 1: but maybe it starts and the talk starts even before that.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I do not expect that pitchers like Trek Schooble and
- 20:10Speaker 1: Freddie Peralta will be out of the headlines just because
- 20:13Speaker 1: their teams are presently saying we're not really going to
- 20:17Speaker 1: trade them. All right, That is it for the inside Dish.

- 21:45Speaker 1: FAM Time Now for Grill and Ken. Let's get to
- 21:54Speaker 1: your questions. First. One comes from Tyler Max Smith, who
- 21:59Speaker 1: asks does the braves landing an extra draft pick from
- 22:02Speaker 1: Baldwin's Rookie of the Year Award make them more or
- 22:05Speaker 1: less likely to sign a qualifying off for free agent.
- 22:08Speaker 1: That's a good question, and I would say the answer
- 22:11Speaker 1: is more likely because if you sign a qualifying off
- 22:14Speaker 1: for free agent, you lose a draft pick, but at
- 22:17Speaker 1: the same time, at the same time, you gain one
- 22:21Speaker 1: from the compensation that results from the Rookie of the
- 22:25Speaker 1: Year awards. So I would expect that, Yes, the Braves
- 22:28Speaker 1: would be more likely to do that. Yes they want
- 22:31Speaker 1: to keep their picks. All teams do, but that to
- 22:34Speaker 1: me would seem to be the way to go. So
- 22:36Speaker 1: let's see what happens there now. Next question. This one
- 22:40Speaker 1: comes from Harold Garb on Instagram, who says who pays
- 22:44Speaker 1: for a free agent that undergoes a surgical procedure his
- 22:48Speaker 1: former team or himself. A free agent undergoing a surgical
- 22:54Speaker 1: procedure would obviously have to do it himself. I would
- 22:58Speaker 1: think his former team is not responded at that point,
- 23:01Speaker 1: he is not under contract to that team. But it's
- 23:03Speaker 1: pretty rare when we see free agents undergo surgeries while
- 23:07Speaker 1: they are on the open market. I can't even remember
- 23:10Speaker 1: the last time that happened, so I wouldn't think that
- 23:13Speaker 1: that is a thing. It's a good question, and it's
- 23:16Speaker 1: a legitimate question because of course players would want to
- 23:20Speaker 1: get that taken care of before they are, in theory unemployed,
- 23:24Speaker 1: but it just doesn't happen all that often. All right,
- 23:27Speaker 1: next question, let's see what this one is. This one
- 23:29Speaker 1: comes from Peter Ross nineteen oh seven, who asks Yankees
- 23:34Speaker 1: are interested in a new second basement and what relievers
- 23:37Speaker 1: are they in on. I don't expect the Yankees aren't
- 23:40Speaker 1: necessarily interested in his second basement. They've got jass Chisholm
- 23:43Speaker 1: Junior to play that position. That's his preferred position. Third
- 23:47Speaker 1: base is a different story to some extent, but they've
- 23:49Speaker 1: got Ryan McMahon there, so I don't know why the
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yankees would be looking at second or third base. Shortstop
- 23:56Speaker 1: is the question with them, with volt becoming off surgery
- 23:59Speaker 1: and whose Caballero being more of a utility player. I
- 24:02Speaker 1: would expect they'll start the season with Caballero and then
- 24:05Speaker 1: go to Volpi once he is healthy. There just aren't
- 24:08Speaker 1: a lot of good shortstops available at the present time,
- 24:12Speaker 1: so that is where the Yankees are with their infield relievers.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I don't know exactly where they're going to go there,
- 24:19Speaker 1: and they're I'm sure looking at all the top closers
- 24:23Speaker 1: out there and talking to all of them, from Devin
- 24:25Speaker 1: Williams to Edwin Diaz, all of them. But price is
- 24:29Speaker 1: going to be a question, and it's going to be
- 24:30Speaker 1: a question of just how they want to do it,
- 24:32Speaker 1: because they've got David bednoin now, they acquired him in
- 24:35Speaker 1: the trade, so they don't need necessarily a ninth inning guy.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Maybe one of those lesser relievers that I talked about,
- 24:41Speaker 1: lesser in terms of name valued, Milio Pagan, one of
- 24:45Speaker 1: those guys Tyler Rodgers that is more appealing to them.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Samuel Rotiz three four to three nine, ask, good morning,
- 24:52Speaker 1: what's up with the Dodgers? What are they up to?
- 24:54Speaker 1: Good question? As always, The Dodgers are a team that,
- 24:58Speaker 1: in the terms of one executive, like to hang around
- 25:02Speaker 1: the backboard. And what I mean by that is they
- 25:04Speaker 1: like to see the market develop and then they kind
- 25:07Speaker 1: of say, Okay, if we can get this kind of
- 25:09Speaker 1: short term deal, we'll take him. If not, we'll pass.
- 25:12Speaker 1: They are looking at relievers along those lines. One year
- 25:15Speaker 1: guy I can see making sense for them, even though
- 25:17Speaker 1: they've got Tanner Scott under contract still and let's see
- 25:22Speaker 1: if they become a player for Kyle Tucker or someone
- 25:24Speaker 1: else whose market might not develop to the extent that
- 25:27Speaker 1: that player wants. I don't think it's going to happen
- 25:29Speaker 1: that way with Tucker, but they could use Kyle Tucker
- 25:32Speaker 1: for sure. And they're a team that I expect is
- 25:35Speaker 1: going to do something. I don't know exactly what it is,
- 25:38Speaker 1: but it's very difficult to bring the same team back,
- 25:41Speaker 1: especially when you've got so many older players. It doesn't
- 25:45Speaker 1: always work the way you want it. You want to
- 25:46Speaker 1: change up the mix a little bit. I do expect
- 25:49Speaker 1: that they're going to do that. All right. With that,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I want to thank everyone for watching, for listening. Foul
