Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Good morning, everybody.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It is just about 3.30 in the morning on Saturday.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And you're probably thinking to yourself, Mike, why in the
- 0:22Speaker 1: hell are you awake at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday when
- 0:28Speaker 1: you should be sleeping? You should still be in bed.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You should be getting that beauty sleep. But nope, not me.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm wide awake. Well, not really wide awake. I'm awake. But,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you know, it should be illegal to work on the weekends.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Monday through Friday, you expect it. You've got bills to pay.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You've got responsibilities. Saturday and Sunday, that should be a
- 1:05Speaker 1: sacred time. But, you gotta earn that money. You know,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Saturday is supposed to mean sleeping in until 8, maybe 9,
- 1:21Speaker 1: maybe 10, if your back allows it. Instead, my alarm
- 1:27Speaker 1: goes off like somebody kicked down the bedroom door yelling,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Get up! You're late! And I'm lying there thinking, why
- 1:35Speaker 1: in the hell am I doing this to myself? You
- 1:41Speaker 1: ever look at the clock and feel personally offended? 3.30 a.m.
- 1:48Speaker 1: isn't even a real time. That's when the night shift
- 1:52Speaker 1: people wonder why you're there. The coffee hasn't decided whether
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's useful. And your dog looks at you like you
- 1:59Speaker 1: fucking lost your mind. I'm getting dressed in the dark,
- 2:05Speaker 1: brushing my teeth, looking in the mirror thinking, Mike, I
- 2:10Speaker 1: could have made different choices in life. But then I
- 2:14Speaker 1: remember why I'm doing this. A hospital isn't just another workplace.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Someone is sick. Someone is scared. Someone needs help and
- 2:26Speaker 1: a family is sitting in a waiting room hoping for
- 2:29Speaker 1: good news. And while most of the world is asleep, Nurses, doctors, technicians, housekeeping, security,
- 2:37Speaker 1: food service, maintenance, transport, and countless others are already there.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Taking care of people and keeping everything moving. That's something
- 2:45Speaker 1: I don't take lightly. Now don't get me wrong, I'm
- 2:50Speaker 1: still tired as hell. I'm not thinking, good morning world,
- 2:55Speaker 1: what an incredible opportunity to serve humanity. I'm thinking, where
- 2:59Speaker 1: in the hell is my coffee? But once I'm moving
- 3:04Speaker 1: and out on the road, there's something peaceful about that
- 3:06Speaker 1: early hour. The streets are quiet, the roads are nearly empty,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and the sun hasn't even started thinking about coming up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: During the day, life is loud, phones ringing, traffic moving,
- 3:20Speaker 1: everybody needing something. But at 3.30 in the morning, you
- 3:24Speaker 1: get a little space to think. You think about your family,
- 3:28Speaker 1: your struggles, your mistakes, your dreams, and where you're headed.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And sometimes you realize you're still here, still moving, still
- 3:36Speaker 1: showing up. And maybe that's what matters. You know, life
- 3:44Speaker 1: doesn't always give us the schedule we want. Sometimes you
- 3:47Speaker 1: work weekends, holidays, or early mornings when everyone else is
- 3:52Speaker 1: off having fun. You don't always have to feel motivated
- 3:56Speaker 1: to show up. Sometimes you show up anyway. So if
- 4:04Speaker 1: you work weekends, early mornings, holidays, or while everybody else
- 4:08Speaker 1: is enjoying themselves, I see you. And if you work
- 4:12Speaker 1: in healthcare, thank you. Maybe people don't thank you enough,
- 4:18Speaker 1: so let me say it. Thank you. What you do matters,
- 4:23Speaker 1: even when nobody notices, even when you're exhausted, and even
- 4:27Speaker 1: when you're wondering how you'll do it all again tomorrow.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Then comes the best moment. The shift is over. You
- 4:37Speaker 1: walk out of the hospital, see daylight and think, I survived.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Maybe you grab breakfast. Maybe you go home and take
- 4:47Speaker 1: a nap. That turns into a three-hour coma. You wake
- 4:51Speaker 1: up wondering, what freaking year is it? But there's something
- 4:56Speaker 1: satisfying about knowing you got up, you did your job,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and kept your word to yourself. So on this Saturday morning,
- 5:07Speaker 1: while you all are sleeping, enjoying those few hours of peace,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I know that Mike D is up, awake, and ready
- 5:21Speaker 1: to go. I don't know about all that. I'm awake.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm not ready to go. But anyhow, I hope you
- 5:34Speaker 1: all Feel refreshed? I hope you all slept in longer
- 5:41Speaker 1: than I did. And most of all, I hope you
- 5:45Speaker 1: all have a wonderful Saturday. Well, that's going to do
- 5:50Speaker 1: it for today. I hope you feel bad for me.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And I hope you understand why I, Mike D., am
- 6:00Speaker 1: awake at 3.30 in the morning on a Saturday night.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Because I have responsibilities and work to do. But as always,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I appreciate you listening. I appreciate you being here. And
- 6:13Speaker 1: I'll see you all on the next one. Peace.
