And yeah, we got the we got Baku, man. It's been a couple weeks since the Boring ass Madrid race, mad Mad Ring, whatever you want to call it. And now we're back to a I was Mad Ring a street circuit, technically. Is that what we're considering it? Yeah. So Darksideday: yeah. Yeah. f1capper: okay. So we're back to another street circuit. And this one is a unique one. Darksideday: Proper one. A proper. f1capper: yeah, yeah. Proper. I I mean, we might as well just go right into that preview, which is yeah, it's got the long, long, long straight. And I mean, we got the breaking 90 degree turn, so it's hard breaking. So it's gonna be different than some of the other street circuits we're used to. you do need low down force for this because of you don't wanna be punished for when you're going on the straight. So they are bringing the I think they said they're bringing the harder compound, so C three, C four, C five. I can't remember what it was last year, but it won't matter. Because the degradation, it didn't matter when they tried to bring a softer compound versus you know them bringing a harder one. So they expect it's gonna be one stop no matter what. But down force, yeah, low. They want it, you you want to try to keep it low. attractions zones are very high. Like I said, it's 90 degree turns. so you you're gonna have to really get on the brake, turn and go. So gotta have can't have a a lot of oversteer. Obviously Understeer's gonna be a challenge too here. That's where you see a lot of the wrecks. I mean, I think that was Piastri last year that had that wreck before it really just solidified his his championship. So yeah, I'm what else? What else are we missing around track? so energy management. So what I heard about this was there's gonna be a little, I guess call it a trick. game, whatever you want. They're basically skirting around this where whenever you're do they're doing their qualifying lap, they're not even going to go full speed up until maybe where the pit entry starts or before that. Right they're not starting their run basically at that last corner to go into the start fin start finish line. They're going to start further up so they can just keep all that energy and and boost in their car so it gives them all that boost throughout no clipping up until turn one and then they go through and the rest of the track. But that doesn't mean that's what's gonna happen in the race. Race, you're gonna probably see them just super clip throughout the the end of the straight. So that was an interesting thing. How does that impact like how we look at bets and everything? Well I think number one, the the biggest thing is is the traffic may be a little bit different. Like so normally during qualifying here, traffic it's traffic is a big deal. So trying to get your your run through and it's kind of tight between the barriers as well. So now they're the queue is going to start up before the last turn. The queue will probably be starting up right around the streets. So does that impact? I don't know. Just calling out what I can see. And then yeah I think just this year I it's going to The cars are they're supposed to be lighter, but they're smaller, they they all seem to have lower down force anyway. So how is the lower down force going to impact them? Is that gonna create more understeer, oversteer? What is that gonna do to some of these these teams? So that's it. Long winded. Let's talk about bets. FP one free pri free money Thursday, I guess. Darksideday: Free money, yeah. Is it f is it Wednesday for f1capper: Free money Thursday. I can't believe we're gonna have to it's what, 3 a.m. for me, so it's like literally in the next twelve hours, the first session starts. Which we just got free practice lines, and I did take one. I I Back to the well, man. We're Bordoletto over over Hulkenberg. I think we're gonna keep keep going with that. Probably should have avoided I think I did the race maybe for the last that was his first time where he was actually beating Bordoletto, but we're going back to Bort. We think I think the the odds were good. I think it moved up to minus one twenty, but we got him at minus one ten. yeah, I wouldn't pay more than minus One thirty, maybe, but that's where I mean I think that's about a good range between that anything lower than that. What do you think? Darksideday: Yeah, I think that's fair enough. Everyone seems to bet it. I don't think I've ever I don't think I've ever done a bort over Hulk. That's terrible. f1capper: You've missed out, buddy. This has been that's been something. I've Darksideday: Ha ha ha. f1capper: been betting since last year, mid season or something. I've love that guy right now. Like I it's been no question. Darksideday: I mean f1capper: Like I've been taking him for almost every session for this entire season, it feels like. So Darksideday: I'm not gonna argue, I see everyone cash in on that, so f1capper: I mean, there's gonna be tracks. Like I like last track, we didn't know what was gonna happen. And Hulk was doing better than Bort at the last track. So there's gonna be those few tracks where Bort's just not gonna be finding it. And it's gonna be Hulk. But otherwise I I do like I'm just going back to it. You know, I feel like he's more in tune with the car and something about Hulk, especially in qualifying. Anytime I can get my hands on Bort over Hulk, Hulk is just I I call it the Botas syndrome. He just seems to do well through like or a Lewis syndrome where he does so well through practices, feels good, and all of a sudden we get to qualifying. It's like what's what's going on here? Like you're P sixteen. What what happened? So that is definitely still one like just overall out outside of FP, the Other thing I wanted is to I just don't know. I was waiting for others. I thought MGM would post. I thought others would post qualifying matchups, but I wanted to take Bort. I think he's at minus one forty five right now to Hulk. It's right on the line. I think I I was hoping for maybe one minus one hundred after his last performance, but would you take it at minus one hundred five? I don't think so. Mm-hmm. Darksideday: I don't think so. Especially if he has a bad FPS, you don't want to be taken on that side. f1capper: Yeah. Yeah. So I'll see. I'm gonna be patient. If I can find a minus one thirty or less, I will be doing it. qual for for for qualifying. so yeah, that was my free practice spiel. What let me ask you before we continue on, because I do want to bring up some top three odds in that area now, we got it. What do you think is going to happen this weekend? Very broad question, but You could break it out by top teams in midfield. Let's just focus on that. Darksideday: Sure. best sort of comparison we have is Monzo. Although it's not completely the same, there's still some slow corners. I think you can't you can't ignore it. And I think Mercedes should be pretty strong here. They got the straight line speed. They've got the car. And it's a car and that will suit the track. And look how terrible Mataram were in Italy. in Monzo and I think that's really the only car that can compete. So I'm on Mercedes side. Midfield probably racing balls, but apart from that I'm not really sure on the rest. What what's your opinion? f1capper: yeah, I agree definitely with the Mercedes. I think that's just always gonna be the tone for them. I think I'm maybe I'm on an island. I don't know. I haven't been paying attention too much to Twitter this past week. I think McLaren's gonna do fine. I think Lando, Darksideday: Do you think? f1capper: I think he will do fine, and then also it was giving me more confidence, although I'm gonna temper it, was seeing the upgrades they brought to the tract this I saw a picture and image of it. They there was a lot of images actually of a lot of different ways, but like the side pod, they they removed that like gigantic s s side pod and it's now it it actually looks more like the Audi is a as someone commented on there and I looked at it. I was like, yeah it does. Like it's I feel like they're stripping some more drag from it because they're the philosophy McLaren has had over the years, especially their championship winning car, is they always have a draggy car, but that's what made them so balanced at any track, except for yes, low downforce tracks. They knew they were gonna be pen there was gonna be a penalty for them for to have that. Yes, we're at a low downforce track, but this is not like you were saying, like a manza where the corners even were like you had one. I think one cor two, two, turn one, and then was I guess it's technically f turn four, were like your your chicanes that you have that you gotta get hard breaking and go. But the rest of the track is is all about like the minute you get that traction out of those out of those zones, yeah, you is you're just kinda like throttled the entire time. It's more medium high speed cornering than it is like at this track where you're gonna have Well, I'm counting it right now, f six different areas where you you've gotta ha it's you've gotta have some type of down for so what I'm basically getting to is what is it, sector two of this track where it's all the turns. I think that's where they make up all their time. And then introduce this new upgrade. Maybe this is not gonna be the punishment people expect. So I think he does fine. I think Lando could even put it on pole. I think he I think he has a shot. So we'll see. plus they have the Mercedes engine, so that benefits them on that long straight. So we'll see we'll see what it does. And of don't have to talk about their tire dag, but and then like I'd go back and forth about Max. There's I don't have a in between. It's it's either he's going to just probably even challenge for the win, or he's going to be like a P six, can't get anywhere. kind of situation. I just don't know where my my lean is is he is going to do well. I almost did pull the trigger on DraftKings top three plus 150 top three. And then I tempered. I was like am I like am I sure? Like this is the type of track this is like their their opportunity to try to maybe get a win. You know this is this is what you need good arrow and they have that. You have the the power unit now the question is is Can they get the balance right for this track? So I don't know. Darksideday: You talking about top three and podium. I was looking at George Russ George Russell plus one hundred, I was thinking, that's all right. f1capper: D you know I refuse to do it. I just refuse to. I refuse to I don't trust that man right now in that car. Darksideday: I think I'd prefer that over Kimmy Plus one twenty race win. f1capper: Yeah. maybe? Actually the more I think about it Darksideday: And 'cause Russell did well at Monza, different track, I know different track. But he has been performing better and qualifying recently. f1capper: yeah. I I don't know. I just can't take Kimmy at whatever his odds are to win. But it's also for the reason that my gut says this is this is not going to be as easy for these drivers to do this race. Even though we've seen a lot of accidents in the past here, it does seem like there have been less and less. But this just feels like there's we're gonna see at least a couple drivers get under steer and ride into the corner, whether it's turn one, two, or turn two or three, something like that. I just I feel like it's going to happen. Or even going into the second to last turn where we've seen many accidents happen actually because you're Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: taking in all that speed. The trend has always been Kimmy just does he he's not trying too hard in I mean he's trying, but for the most part in FP one, he doesn't have he doesn't get in top three as often as you think. It's always in FP two and three. He you see him just flying or doing something. Yeah, there's a few occasions Where he he he has hit it and this is not this is excluding sprint. So this is just when you have three FP3 sessions. So to me that says they use that opportunity to learn a lot, tweak, optimize, get setting and then FP two. They they really test it out. or they change it. If something wasn't working in FP one, they change it in FP two and in FP three they get it. Darksideday: He's got his monitor engine back. f1capper: yes. Yes. And I just don't I do to me, LeClaire is an F P one top three merchant and this has been going on for years. Like You know, street circuits like this it seems to it seems to bring Chuck Chucky out. But like Darksideday: It is true it's either PY nor in the wall. f1capper: That too. I did think I did still like the safety car and I thought, we got a VSC. And I thought maybe we would see a safety car. Unfortunately we didn't. But then I still had confidence that might still come out and it never did. So I would have taken that no matter what, even knowing what I know about the track now. I probably still would take it. I just would reconsider the odds. Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: but yeah, I think if if only I had that hindsight and just went with my gut and said, bail out of those. I just don't like doing that and Yeah. Darksideday: And even during the race, we didn't even think no one's overtaking anyone. I mean some people did overtake like f1capper: Right. Right. Darksideday: the Piastri against some midfield donkeys, but generally f1capper: Also Darksideday: no one's overtaken go. f1capper: Also, I was the biggest catalyst to the loss, really, for me at least.
