- 0:09Speaker 1: Why is there air here? We go?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning, Welcome into the ATA Bounds Show, ESPN one
- 0:18Speaker 2: oh five nine to zone. We welcome in our friend
- 0:20Speaker 2: Tom Lougan Bill, national college football analysts with ESPN. He
- 0:26Speaker 2: was at SEC Media Days last week. We get I said,
- 0:30Speaker 2: acc ACC Media Days last week, SEC Media Days this week.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Lukes joins us on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line
- 0:38Speaker 2: and the show is driven by your next GMC Yukon
- 0:42Speaker 2: or GMC Sierra truck at Fowler Fowler, GMC Pearl Brandon,
- 0:47Speaker 2: Tom Lougan Bill, good morning, how are you?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Good morning to you. But I'm doing good. How are you?
- 0:51Speaker 2: We're good, Bud, Thanks for hanging out with us. So
- 0:55Speaker 2: let's start with the most pressure to deliver in twenty
- 1:00Speaker 2: twenty six. You'll love this. This is great summertime topic.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Most pressure to Deliver in twenty twenty six. Kiffin smart
- 1:12Speaker 2: or Sart Luke's Oh, Kiffin without question.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I mean they've almost set themselves up for a nowhere
- 1:24Speaker 1: to go but down scenario when you consider the pressure
- 1:26Speaker 1: and the expectations, the resources that have been allotted, the
- 1:31Speaker 1: money that has already been spent, the ballet Hood recruiting
- 1:35Speaker 1: class Transfer portal class all of it. I mean, this
- 1:39Speaker 1: isn't This isn't like taking the Old Miss job and
- 1:41Speaker 1: that you get to a nine win season and they
- 1:43Speaker 1: are going to build a statue of you outside of
- 1:46Speaker 1: the stadium. This is a college football playoff top four
- 1:51Speaker 1: or five seed. We expect it right now, type of
- 1:56Speaker 1: expectation and fair or unfair, they've created this, and that's
- 2:01Speaker 1: fine because that's the nature of the business. You know,
- 2:05Speaker 1: Stark's going to have a great football team. I think
- 2:07Speaker 1: Kirby's gonna have a great football team. But right now,
- 2:11Speaker 1: this is about Lane establishing LSU as a national title
- 2:16Speaker 1: contender right out of the gate.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And a tough September schedule for Lane with Clemson and
- 2:24Speaker 2: Ole Miss and A and m so Tom Lougan Bill
- 2:27Speaker 2: on the at of Bound show which roster would you
- 2:29Speaker 2: take today? Texas, Georgia, LSU, Lukes.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Uh Texas and Georgia over LSU's roster. The reason why
- 2:39Speaker 1: I say that is there are more returning, verifiable, proven
- 2:46Speaker 1: players on Texas and Georgia in relationship to guys that
- 2:50Speaker 1: have played and been within the program. Right so when
- 2:54Speaker 1: you look at Georgia and Notre Dames actually in this
- 2:56Speaker 1: conversation too. You look at Georgia and you look at
- 2:59Speaker 1: Texas and you say, oh, okay, we're the established foundation.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It's clearly on the high school side. Have they for
- 3:05Speaker 1: the most part, you're not going to be able to
- 3:07Speaker 1: do it with everybody, But have they developed and retained
- 3:09Speaker 1: at the high school level. Yes, and then they supplement
- 3:12Speaker 1: and they sprinkle in transfer portal additions. More than likely,
- 3:16Speaker 1: upperclassman guys are going to bring experience, they're going to
- 3:19Speaker 1: bring age, they're going to bring maturity, and right now,
- 3:23Speaker 1: from an established standpoint, I think you'd have to take
- 3:26Speaker 1: Texas or Georgia.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Okay, But having said all that, LSU's you know, they're
- 3:33Speaker 2: not far off.
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, and I think LSU's got a high ceiling. Okay, Okay,
- 3:39Speaker 1: But and I've said this to you multiple times on
- 3:42Speaker 1: your program, if Sam Levitt doesn't perform, and more importantly,
- 3:48Speaker 1: doesn't stay healthy, then they're likely going to be, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: jumping too a youngster. If that were to happen, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: it's happened a lot with him right the previous two
- 3:58Speaker 1: years at Arizona, to stay a lot of the hype,
- 4:00Speaker 1: Let's not forget a lot of a hype on him
- 4:02Speaker 1: was based off of that twenty twenty four season, right,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and not much other of a sample size to warrant
- 4:10Speaker 1: that hype. So he's going to have to come through
- 4:13Speaker 1: big for them.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, So eight and four, eight and four will just
- 4:19Speaker 2: be a big time disappointment. And you can't get in
- 4:23Speaker 2: at nine and three. I don't with the twelve until
- 4:26Speaker 2: we go to sixteen twenty or twenty four Lukes, which
- 4:29Speaker 2: is happening, but we just don't know which number. I
- 4:33Speaker 2: think a bunch of SEC teams and Big ten teams
- 4:36Speaker 2: will go at nine and three eventually. But this is
- 4:39Speaker 2: going to be a year where Sankie thought we would
- 4:43Speaker 2: have expanded by now, and they couldn't get on the
- 4:45Speaker 2: same page, as you know, but they went ahead and
- 4:47Speaker 2: added the ninth conference game, So we could have a
- 4:51Speaker 2: big cluster of nine and three teams that are on
- 4:54Speaker 2: the outside looking in, even though that could be a
- 4:57Speaker 2: good year in the.
- 4:58Speaker 1: SEC, of course, but you could have that out of conference.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You could have that out of the out of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: ACC too. What I mean, what if Miami's right there
- 5:06Speaker 1: in it again? Uh, Clemson's in a position right now
- 5:09Speaker 1: or for the first time in what fifteen years, nobody's
- 5:13Speaker 1: talking about them. Yeah, like they're lying in the weeds.
- 5:18Speaker 1: To me, you got Louisville, you got SMU sitting there.
- 5:20Speaker 1: There could be a bunch of teams sitting there at
- 5:21Speaker 1: ten and two, nine and three out of all of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the conferences, right and and and then what do you do?
- 5:27Speaker 1: What you got to make sure we don't do is
- 5:30Speaker 1: go down last year's path, and the ACC created that.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But to leave teams like BYU, Texas, even Vanderbilt, Dame
- 5:38Speaker 1: and Notre Dame at home in favor of James Madison
- 5:42Speaker 1: in Tulane is absolutely laughable because that's the difference. And
- 5:47Speaker 1: I think I said this to you too, Bo. The
- 5:49Speaker 1: nobody wants to talk about Cinderella's and you know those
- 5:52Speaker 1: long shots and you want to root from and this
- 5:54Speaker 1: and that. Well, the difference between the basketball tournament and
- 5:58Speaker 1: the football college football Playoff is basketball doesn't leave the
- 6:03Speaker 1: blue blood established program sitting at home to left the
- 6:07Speaker 1: Cinderella in right, right, we just left those guys at home.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And they want to call it the twelve best teams
- 6:14Speaker 1: in college football. Give me a break.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Come on, that's a good point on Notre Dame in
- 6:19Speaker 2: Texas and to a certain extent, Bandy going ten and two,
- 6:22Speaker 2: sure and getting sure and getting left out. Tom Logan
- 6:26Speaker 2: Bill on the Out of Bounds Show Driven by your
- 6:27Speaker 2: next GMC Sierra Truck at Fowler GMC. You mentioned Notre
- 6:32Speaker 2: Dame and you're heavily you know, you started a quarterback
- 6:39Speaker 2: at Georgia Tech. You covered the ACC forever. Now you're
- 6:42Speaker 2: heavily involved in the ACC. They're tied in with their
- 6:47Speaker 2: four or five games a year. But have you ever
- 6:50Speaker 2: in modern era Luke's looked at a schedule that lines
- 6:53Speaker 2: up this way considered considering what Marcus Freeman and Notre
- 6:58Speaker 2: Dame are bringing back.
- 7:01Speaker 1: No, I mean, it's you know what it is. It's
- 7:03Speaker 1: the perfect recipe for a national title run. It's also
- 7:07Speaker 1: the perfect recipe for disaster. Yeah right, it's a double
- 7:10Speaker 1: edged sword. And you know, when you look go look
- 7:14Speaker 1: at Notre Dame and the job that they've done in
- 7:16Speaker 1: terms of development and retention. They've got a potential top
- 7:20Speaker 1: five pick at quarterback. They've got two young, outstanding offensive
- 7:23Speaker 1: tackles on both sides. The biggest thing for me about
- 7:26Speaker 1: Notre Dame is they're gonna have to come up with
- 7:27Speaker 1: a way of generating pass rush. You know, that was
- 7:30Speaker 1: something that was lacking a year ago. I think they've
- 7:32Speaker 1: got to increase the output there, create more negative plays
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the backfield, get people in second and third and
- 7:38Speaker 1: long on a more consistent basis. But everything else is there, man.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I mean, they are established, and they've got the schedule
- 7:46Speaker 1: where outside of probably the Miami Contest, it's not even
- 7:51Speaker 1: close in terms of roster profile comparison with Notre Dame
- 7:54Speaker 1: and whoever else they're playing.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And I think that game's can shout in it is yeah, beautiful, incredible,
- 8:05Speaker 2: And so I mean, we we all have them in
- 8:08Speaker 2: the They could, they could screw it up, but we
- 8:10Speaker 2: all have them in the College Football Playoff with their
- 8:12Speaker 2: schedule and talent.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah, if they're in the top twelve, it doesn't matter
- 8:16Speaker 1: what they do. They're in right right. And if that
- 8:19Speaker 1: roster and that team with that schedule isn't in the
- 8:21Speaker 1: top twelve, then they've had a twenty five Clemson collapse.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, right out of bounds. ESPN one oh five nine
- 8:31Speaker 2: to the zone. You mentioned Texas. I'm not sure. I
- 8:36Speaker 2: know they have the talent, we all know that, but
- 8:39Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm buying so Kaikowski to me
- 8:42Speaker 2: like premier, big time defensive coordinator. Musch Champs like good,
- 8:47Speaker 2: but he's in the B level. I think Kaikowski's in
- 8:49Speaker 2: the A level.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Oh I don't. I don't know if I agree with that.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I think there's been there. I think there's been plenty
- 8:55Speaker 1: of proof that will much Champ as a coordinator is
- 8:59Speaker 1: at the elite level. Now, we all know you got
- 9:02Speaker 1: to have players, right, You got to have really really
- 9:05Speaker 1: good players, and really really good players make you a
- 9:08Speaker 1: really really good coach. Sure, and Texas is going to
- 9:12Speaker 1: have that. You know it'll be. Now, it might look
- 9:14Speaker 1: a little different, they might be a little bit different
- 9:16Speaker 1: schematically and things of that nature. But understand too that
- 9:21Speaker 1: it's all coming off of the of the same tree
- 9:24Speaker 1: and start coached under that tree. Like he knows exactly
- 9:27Speaker 1: what they are getting scheme wise on defense, he knows
- 9:29Speaker 1: exactly how it's going to be implemented. He knows what
- 9:31Speaker 1: the challenges are playing against that defense. So, whether it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: must Champ, Pete Golding, Kirby, Smart, whoever it is, you
- 9:40Speaker 1: know that you want to look at and say, Okay,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you know we know the sab And tree, we know
- 9:46Speaker 1: what the scheme is it's tried and true. You add
- 9:48Speaker 1: great players to it, they're going to be a formidable group.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Tom Loganville, national college football analyst with the ESPN on
- 9:56Speaker 2: the out of Bounds ship, I want to go to
- 9:58Speaker 2: old miss Kiffin is has established himself. Is it fair
- 10:02Speaker 2: to say Kiffin's established himself the last six years as
- 10:04Speaker 2: a top ten play caller?
- 10:07Speaker 1: Oh? Absolutely. I would actually go back to even he
- 10:12Speaker 1: is a younger coach, gnashing his teeth and being able
- 10:17Speaker 1: to develop as a play caller and a you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: an overseer of the offense, going back to him working
- 10:23Speaker 1: under Norm chowd SC in some of those SC offenses,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and then obviously it became his turn and eventually it
- 10:30Speaker 1: became Sark's turn. But yeah, I think where he's done
- 10:34Speaker 1: a really good job is he's evolved with the game right.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He's added wrinkles, he's eliminated things, he's tweaked, he's became
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, they weren't a tempo team at USC, they
- 10:46Speaker 1: weren't let's go as fast as we can team at USC.
- 10:48Speaker 1: He's found some positives in that, so he's implemented it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I think the evolution of him not just as a
- 10:55Speaker 1: play caller, but to enhance the play call by enhancing
- 10:59Speaker 1: the approach. And he's done.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Okay, Now, Trinidad Chambliss and Keewan Lacy have a new
- 11:08Speaker 2: play caller who has two years of offensive coordinator experience
- 11:12Speaker 2: under his bell in East Carolina and John David Baker
- 11:16Speaker 2: and John David Baker said, Yeah, it's gonna be a
- 11:20Speaker 2: lot of the same, but some different and different terminology.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So you started at quarterback at Georgia Tech.
- 11:25Speaker 2: What I know, Trinidad and Lacy are going to know
- 11:28Speaker 2: the offense and so on, But what does that entail
- 11:32Speaker 2: walk us through? There will be some tweaks and different
- 11:36Speaker 2: terminology for this ole miss offense.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah. I think what you got to do is if
- 11:41Speaker 1: you sat there and you put it on paper, right,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and you drew out the concepts and this and that,
- 11:45Speaker 1: all right, it just may mean that instead of calling
- 11:48Speaker 1: it a slants, we call it a glance. A right,
- 11:51Speaker 1: instead of a slant, we called a glance, all right,
- 11:54Speaker 1: And instead of a dig, we called it over you know,
- 11:57Speaker 1: whatever it may be. Instead of a comeback, we call it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: But you're just talking about interchangeable words. But if you
- 12:04Speaker 1: visualize it and looked at it, and let's just say
- 12:07Speaker 1: you took a play because John David Baker's offense is
- 12:10Speaker 1: essentially I mean, it's rooted in Old Missus principles, he's
- 12:12Speaker 1: coached there before. And you drew it and you said, okay,
- 12:17Speaker 1: what does this play to you? To a player that
- 12:20Speaker 1: played at Ole miss a year ago, and they look
- 12:22Speaker 1: at it, they know exactly what it is. Well, so
- 12:24Speaker 1: the play is not changing, just what you're calling it
- 12:27Speaker 1: maybe shifting a little bit. Now, that's where your off
- 12:30Speaker 1: season comes in, right, that's where you're working January February March,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and you head into spring football. And if you can't
- 12:38Speaker 1: come out of spring football adjusting to terminology, you're not
- 12:42Speaker 1: a very smart football player. And dumb players lose games.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So there's going to be very there's going to be
- 12:48Speaker 1: very little tolerance to not be able to know what
- 12:52Speaker 1: the foundation of the offense is when you see it,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but not be able to adjust because you change a
- 12:56Speaker 1: couple of things here and there. You tag something, or
- 12:59Speaker 1: you call protection something instead of a propection being a name,
- 13:01Speaker 1: that's now a number. Okay, well we got to be
- 13:03Speaker 1: able to adjust to that. The good part about all
- 13:05Speaker 1: of this is by eliminating the second transfer portal period
- 13:10Speaker 1: from the time that player has arrived, either through high
- 13:13Speaker 1: school recruiting in December or the transfer portal you know,
- 13:16Speaker 1: in January one. Spring football ended. They're not going anywhere.
- 13:21Speaker 1: They're there, so you're not having it. Let's just say
- 13:23Speaker 1: take a second group of transfer portal guys that previously
- 13:28Speaker 1: would have come in after spring football, and now integrate
- 13:30Speaker 1: them heading into fall camp. That's already been done. So
- 13:34Speaker 1: by the time anybody, whether it's terminology, even if you
- 13:37Speaker 1: even if you flip the scheme, even if you brought
- 13:39Speaker 1: in an offer at the coordinator that was gonna, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: run a different style of offense, there's there's gonna be
- 13:46Speaker 1: very little tolerance and very little excuses for, especially at
- 13:49Speaker 1: the quarterback position, but everybody else as well, to not
- 13:53Speaker 1: be dialed in on what you're gonna do.
- 13:55Speaker 2: It looks like John David Paker throws the ball a
- 13:59Speaker 2: good bit more than Kiffin. Kiffin's been somehow we painted
- 14:03Speaker 2: him Kiffin is a pass happy offense because we see
- 14:06Speaker 2: all the explosive plays, guys running wide open. But as
- 14:09Speaker 2: you know, Lane loves to run the football. Not that
- 14:12Speaker 2: John David Baker won't, but he he skews on the
- 14:16Speaker 2: kind of the big twelve, twenty ten, twenty eleven, throw
- 14:20Speaker 2: it more from what I gather, Yeah, you know, I.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Actually I had East Carolina three times last year, so
- 14:25Speaker 1: it became very familiar with them on Thursday night football.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And so I think they want to run it more.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But here's the thing that's, you know, interesting, we forget
- 14:35Speaker 1: about this. Either folks don't know it or they don't
- 14:37Speaker 1: realize it's happening, because it's not it's tough to see
- 14:39Speaker 1: if you don't know what you're watching, but oftentimes things
- 14:43Speaker 1: that materialize in the passing game were called runs in
- 14:47Speaker 1: the huddle, right, And so what's happening is is it's
- 14:52Speaker 1: really simple math. And that is when you get into
- 14:55Speaker 1: that line of scrimmage play and you've either got two
- 14:59Speaker 1: plays called in one, you're gonna have a check out
- 15:02Speaker 1: of it based off of what the look is. The
- 15:04Speaker 1: quarterbacks count numbers, right, and so we may say, hey,
- 15:07Speaker 1: we want to run it here, we want to establish
- 15:09Speaker 1: this here, but oh boy, they've got seven in the
- 15:12Speaker 1: box and we've only got five or six to block them. Well,
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's not smart football, right, So we got to get
- 15:17Speaker 1: out of that, and if you're gonna load the box,
- 15:19Speaker 1: we want to have one on one opportunities and you're
- 15:21Speaker 1: gonna throw the football. Conversely, the exact opposite happens as well.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You may come into a situation where you've got second
- 15:28Speaker 1: and eight and you've got a pass play called and
- 15:33Speaker 1: they're in too high and got five people in the box. Well,
- 15:35Speaker 1: you're gonna check her run, right, because now you have
- 15:38Speaker 1: the numbers advantage, and you're going to try to get
- 15:42Speaker 1: five six yards of that and get yourself in second
- 15:44Speaker 1: in short, which is the third and short, which is
- 15:46Speaker 1: what everybody wants to be in. So it's not necessarily
- 15:49Speaker 1: rocket science. It's numbers.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And you have a veteran quarterback who proved he was
- 15:54Speaker 2: arguably the best decision maker maker in the country.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah last Yearndad, he can get you out of those things, right,
- 16:01Speaker 1: he knows, he knows pre snap. Okay, this is what
- 16:04Speaker 1: we ultimately want to be in. We don't want to
- 16:06Speaker 1: run this versus this look. We'd ideally love him to
- 16:09Speaker 1: be in this look. If we're going to attack them
- 16:10Speaker 1: with this Oh wait that they're not in that look either.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Let's go to something else and understand too. Like, at
- 16:16Speaker 1: the speed and rate that they're going, how fast that
- 16:19Speaker 1: stuff has to happen, right, And because it's not just
- 16:22Speaker 1: the pre snap recognition in the diagnosis once the ball snap,
- 16:27Speaker 1: you've got to produce a positive result. And with offenses
- 16:30Speaker 1: like that, they're having to make those determinations anywhere between
- 16:33Speaker 1: eleven and fourteen seconds. Let's go to.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Jeff Levy who's on the hot seat and has to
- 16:42Speaker 2: win this year. And he has a true sophomore quarterback
- 16:50Speaker 2: and I always reference Dak and Eli who back then
- 16:53Speaker 2: didn't start until the red shirt sophomore years here and
- 16:56Speaker 2: they're both phenomenal. Okay, they hung around forever all that,
- 17:01Speaker 2: So his job is, right, you know, is on the
- 17:04Speaker 2: line with a true sophomore QB who's six foot four,
- 17:07Speaker 2: two thirty. You know he can run around, probably not
- 17:12Speaker 2: a refined passer. Yet you played quarterback at the Power
- 17:16Speaker 2: four level knowing that you've got to win X amount
- 17:20Speaker 2: of games? What would be your I mean, what would
- 17:25Speaker 2: be to your approach this year with a true sophomore
- 17:28Speaker 2: that played a little bit last year knowing that he's
- 17:30Speaker 2: going to have to carry you over the finish line,
- 17:33Speaker 2: so to speak.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Lukes, Well, I think that's where the off season coaching
- 17:37Speaker 1: component comes into play. As you mentioned, you've got a
- 17:40Speaker 1: small sample size, there's tape to be to be watched,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and then you're you're continuing to develop this player's theory
- 17:49Speaker 1: of the game knowledge. It's not necessarily how big he is,
- 17:51Speaker 1: how tall he is, it's what can he handle, what
- 17:53Speaker 1: can he process? What can he do right? And you're
- 17:56Speaker 1: going to test that out. That's the spring football's for.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You're going to put him in situations to what he does.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You're going to maybe try to trick him into a
- 18:02Speaker 1: situation to see if he recognizes it and gets out
- 18:06Speaker 1: of it or moves into something. You're going to want
- 18:09Speaker 1: to really upgrade that player's knowledge of past protections and
- 18:13Speaker 1: how to protect himself and get the team into the
- 18:16Speaker 1: right call. So I think so much of the development
- 18:19Speaker 1: and an off season between a freshman and sophomore year
- 18:23Speaker 1: is really advancing that player's knowledge of the game so
- 18:27Speaker 1: that they can think fast and they can play comfortable. Now,
- 18:30Speaker 1: does that mean that you ask them to do something
- 18:33Speaker 1: that maybe they're not comfortable with or they don't have
- 18:36Speaker 1: confidence in. Absolutely not, But that's what you're trying to
- 18:39Speaker 1: find out, right because we can talk all we want
- 18:42Speaker 1: about scheme and systems and this and that. The great
- 18:44Speaker 1: systems are the systems that revolve around a player's strengths
- 18:48Speaker 1: and then do everything they can to mask weaknesses. So
- 18:51Speaker 1: you're trying to figure out what that is, right, You're
- 18:53Speaker 1: trying to say, Okay, you know, with with somebody like
- 18:58Speaker 1: I don't know anybody, they would have had it at
- 19:02Speaker 1: Oklahoma under Jeff Levy, guys that had Dylan Well, yeah, okay,
- 19:07Speaker 1: let's take Dylan Gabriel for example. Okay, they may do
- 19:10Speaker 1: things in the offense with Dylan Gabriel that they're not
- 19:13Speaker 1: gonna do with Kamaro Taylor, right, And maybe it's not
- 19:16Speaker 1: because he's not capable of doing it, but maybe it's
- 19:19Speaker 1: because he's not capable of doing it yet. Or you're
- 19:22Speaker 1: going to implement some things that Kamaro Taylor does really,
- 19:25Speaker 1: really well that you wouldn't have done with Dylan Gabriel,
- 19:28Speaker 1: and whether that's moving the pocket, changing the launch point,
- 19:31Speaker 1: putting in him in a position to always be able
- 19:33Speaker 1: to run in case things don't happen and he doesn't
- 19:37Speaker 1: get through the progression, but aboording a negative play and
- 19:39Speaker 1: doing so you got to find those things out, and
- 19:42Speaker 1: then you build the day offense around that, right, because
- 19:45Speaker 1: you don't want to stick a square peg in a
- 19:46Speaker 1: round hole, you know, like the old days it used
- 19:48Speaker 1: to be, well, you know, we're going to put this
- 19:51Speaker 1: guy into the West Coast offense, or this guy's going
- 19:53Speaker 1: to be right in the in the multiple pro style,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and this is who we are, and this is what
- 19:57Speaker 1: we're going to do, and that player has to adapt.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Those days are long gone. Yes, all right, we'll wrap
- 20:03Speaker 1: it up with this.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Tom Louganville on the show ESPN College Football Analysts. Biggest
- 20:11Speaker 2: story coming out of the ACC. Can Belichick get it
- 20:15Speaker 2: done at North Carolina? Can Dabbo reboot Clemson? Or does
- 20:20Speaker 2: Mario make another run? Or is it another You were
- 20:23Speaker 2: there all week last week. You've got some big names
- 20:26Speaker 2: in the conference. What is it for you, Tom Louganville.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't think it's really I don't think North Carolina's
- 20:32Speaker 1: is a big of a storyline unless they come out
- 20:34Speaker 1: of nowhere and just completely have a reversal of fortune.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You know, last year, if you remember, they were gifted
- 20:41Speaker 1: a great schedule and went four and eight with it.
- 20:44Speaker 1: They have not been gifted that schedule this time around,
- 20:47Speaker 1: their schedule is much more difficult. They are going to
- 20:50Speaker 1: have almost as many new faith as as they had
- 20:53Speaker 1: a year ago, yet they're going to be less experienced.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I love to hire Bobby Petrino, but what can he
- 20:58Speaker 1: get out of the quarterback and how much better can
- 21:02Speaker 1: they be? They gotta be able to run the football.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I mean, last year North Carolina, when they ran for
- 21:06Speaker 1: one hundred and forty five yards or more per game,
- 21:09Speaker 1: they were three and up. They only won four games
- 21:11Speaker 1: all right. Last year at Arkansas there were only two
- 21:14Speaker 1: games where Bobby Petrino's offense didn't rush for one hundred
- 21:18Speaker 1: and forty five yards or more. So they're going to
- 21:20Speaker 1: try to run the football North Carolina, and they need
- 21:22Speaker 1: to because you don't know what the quarterback position is
- 21:24Speaker 1: going to be just yet. Miami is to me, they're
- 21:29Speaker 1: the most talented team. They have the best blend of
- 21:31Speaker 1: high school developed recruits and transfer portal additions. For me,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I don't think it's about how good Miami's going to
- 21:37Speaker 1: be or how good they're capable of being. To me,
- 21:40Speaker 1: it's going to be all about did they spend their offseason?
- 21:42Speaker 1: In their press clippings, Yeah, and you know, the Pats
- 21:46Speaker 1: on the backs and the Atta boys. I mean, that
- 21:48Speaker 1: stuff starts sinking in and all of a sudden, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you get caught up in it and you lose your
- 21:53Speaker 1: focus and you're not you know, when you bringing new
- 21:55Speaker 1: guys that weren't a part of that run last year,
- 21:57Speaker 1: They didn't have anything to do with that. Now you
- 21:59Speaker 1: got to establish that run on your own with a
- 22:01Speaker 1: new team and a new locker room and new leadership.
- 22:04Speaker 1: And I think that's something you know, to keep an
- 22:05Speaker 1: eye on. With Miami. I think Clemson is going to
- 22:08Speaker 1: be very interesting to watch because, like I said, you know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: when was the last time we were going into a
- 22:12Speaker 1: preseason where all the talk was it Clemson? You know,
- 22:16Speaker 1: so it's going to be interesting. The quarterback play is
- 22:18Speaker 1: actually pretty good in the ACC. Cja Bailey Atancy State
- 22:20Speaker 1: is a stud. Kevin Jennings at SMU is a stud.
- 22:24Speaker 1: We obviously know Darien mensa many time player getting that
- 22:28Speaker 1: move to Miami. And you know, we'll see how the
- 22:31Speaker 1: whole thing plays out. Lukes, we appreciate it. Have a
- 22:34Speaker 1: good week, my man. You bet we'll do same to you.
