- 0:00My definition of a punk is a DL man and my baby daddy was a punk
- 0:04and majority of the men that I messed with in the military were
- 0:07punks and I just didn't realize the concern.
- 0:09I need everyone to listen because when I'm scrolling on my
- 0:11free page and I see a video about a man disrespecting a
- 0:14woman, I don't want to open the comment section and see any.
- 0:17That's not a real man, by the way, he got to be gay.
- 0:20He got to be DL. The rise in the DL police on
- 0:23this app is straight women trying to make sense of the fact
- 0:26that they now know that men hate them.
- 0:27OK, so you think your man is on the down low?
- 0:29Here are 5 foolproof ways to find out for sure.
- 0:32Girl, I've been exposing DL men since 2022 and have successfully
- 0:35saved the lives of 40 plus women from these demonic boy lovers.
- 0:39Do you see how crazy that sounds?
- 0:41Were you intrigued? Did you jump because it's time
- 0:43we talk about it. Hey guys, it's up to emergency
- 0:45and welcome back to my channel. And today we are talking about
- 0:48something that has been sitting on my heart for a while now and
- 0:51a conversation that I feel like needs to be had because I think
- 0:54where this conversation started was fine and well-intentioned,
- 0:59but where it's going and where it is right now is largely
- 1:02problematic. And I don't think we're seeing
- 1:04it as such. And what I'm talking about is
- 1:06the rise of DL hunting or down low manhunting.
- 1:10And it seems Tenley to talk about this seeing as there have
- 1:12been DL allegations of let's say presidential proportions if you
- 1:16catch my drift. But also just general uptick in
- 1:18DL hunter content and commentary spreading online.
- 1:21Like I've been seeing this trend online of DL hunters or at least
- 1:24just women telling absolutely abhorrent stories about men.
- 1:28And the comments under these videos are always quick to say
- 1:30that the man in question here is actually just down low or
- 1:33secretly gay and implying that that presumption could be the
- 1:36only possible explanation as to why he would treat a woman that
- 1:39way. Almost as if blatant misogyny
- 1:41hasn't existed for actual centuries.
- 1:43And when I see things like this, I just have to ask, why are we
- 1:46in it? What did we do?
- 1:48Like I feel like we've circled around from allyship to just
- 1:50blatant homophobia because why are we using gay as an insult
- 1:53again? I mean gay as an insult, just in
- 1:55a sort of different way. Like honestly, some of you are
- 1:58just getting a little too comfortable using it in a
- 2:00derogatory way. Like I'm even seeing people
- 2:02starting to say slurs because they have been reclaimed again,
- 2:05right? And you may be asking yourself,
- 2:06Rumi, is it really that deep for you to make a whole video about
- 2:09it? And to that I say yes, actually,
- 2:12because at its core, when you're ascribing negative traits like
- 2:14being a misogynist, hating women or just being too feminine or
- 2:17sassy in derogatory ways, such as saying that someone is DL or
- 2:21just secretly gay, what is that really saying about what you
- 2:24think about gay people quickly? And if you know me, you know, I
- 2:27go hard for my girlies and gays. But it really does get to a
- 2:29point because it feels like there's a portion of women out
- 2:32there that are finding out that men are actually just
- 2:33misogynistic because it hasn't been more front facing and just
- 2:36outwardly allowed over the past let's say 10 or 20 years.
- 2:39And instead of confronting and addressing the roots of misogyny
- 2:42and misogynoir, it for some reason is getting blamed for
- 2:45actually being gay. Like, why are ancient misogynist
- 2:48men getting thrown out the gays? We don't want them.
- 2:53And also just like, why do we assume that a terrible person is
- 2:56gay? Like, why would that be a
- 2:57characteristic of gayness or at least latent gayness?
- 3:00Like, yeah, there's like the whole like, oh, he's so evil, he
- 3:03must be sexually repressed of it all.
- 3:04But like, no, actually, I heard this quote from a while ago
- 3:08about misogyny saying that, like, men don't love women but
- 3:11are still sexually attracted to them.
- 3:13Like, right. That's exactly what
- 3:15objectification is. And that right there is deeply
- 3:18rooted misogyny in question. We've been fighting for years
- 3:21that men don't see women as equals, but rather as things to
- 3:24satisfy them. And I feel like that revelation
- 3:26is me preaching to the choir. But I just want to reinforce
- 3:28again that that is not a symptom of queerness.
- 3:31That's a symptom of years of patriarchy.
- 3:33Now, am I saying that this hasn't happened in the history
- 3:34of ever? That like, a man is actually
- 3:36repressing his identity and it comes out in the form of hatred
- 3:39towards women? Like, no, that surely has
- 3:40happened. And sure, it does happen.
- 3:42Like, there are many of stories out there.
- 3:44Like, that's why this whole trend has taken off.
- 3:45And this isn't to invalidate anyone who's experienced this,
- 3:48but specifically what I'm talking about is just like this
- 3:49wave of TikTok DL hunters and the insistence of calling every
- 3:53man whoever shows negative behavior towards women or on the
- 3:55flip side shows an ounce of femininity.
- 3:57We as a society, or at least as the Internet, throw them deep in
- 4:00the DL basket or at least just use it as a weaponized insult
- 4:03against them. And I think the language we use
- 4:05here is really important. And as we're going to get into
- 4:07later in the video, words do mean things.
- 4:09Like I hate to say it, but some straight men, a lot actually
- 4:12just hate women. And given the times we're living
- 4:14in, it's never been so blatantly in our faces.
- 4:17Now let's say a little deeper into the fascination around the
- 4:19need to figure out who is DL and who is not.
- 4:22Now I do want to say right off the bat, I understand fearing
- 4:25and fidelity because that truly sucks and is one of the hardest
- 4:28feelings you can feel in a relationship.
- 4:30But in the case of this DL debacle, that doesn't feel like
- 4:32that is entirely what this is. This feels a little more witch
- 4:36hunty. It feels like there's this need
- 4:37to know or to label someone who isn't behaving in a way that
- 4:40you'd like them to as DL. And as an addendum to that,
- 4:43usually this notion of DL Ness is framed within the context and
- 4:46narrative of sexual DD. And again, I'm not here to
- 4:49invalidate anyone's experience or to like, talk down to anybody
- 4:52because yes, sure, this happens to people.
- 4:55Well, like, why not just leave it alone if that's what you
- 4:57suspect is happening to you? Or if this man is being
- 4:59emotionally abusive or even verbally misogynistic, leave
- 5:02that man alone anyway. Like the reasonings behind why
- 5:04he may treat you or other people terribly doesn't have to be
- 5:07because he's secretly into men. Like you can leave a man for
- 5:10whatever reason. And of course, when I say this,
- 5:11I mean like, if you're able to safely, I'm not talking about
- 5:14instances where this is dangerous, of course.
- 5:16And it's just like so many things about this conversation
- 5:18suck, obviously, but one thing I think about is how hard we work
- 5:21to move away from gender norms only to then go back and
- 5:24reinforce them with the DL witch hunt of it all.
- 5:25Like, I really hate to come on here and defend a man, but like,
- 5:28if a man has done anything that could be deemed as vaguely
- 5:30feminine, then that's a wrap. And of course, this is all using
- 5:33the antiquated heteronormative definitions of femininity and
- 5:37masculinity. And it just seems like this
- 5:38terrible backslide, which is not surprising given the
- 5:41increasingly traditional times that we're currently living in.
- 5:44Like guys that they float their DL and we got to burn them at
- 5:46the stake. But if they I think they're just
- 5:48a woman hater. Now let's take a little deep
- 5:50dive into what are the contributing factors of like
- 5:52this DL epidemic to begin with. And I think first and foremost,
- 5:55the problems start at home. So this is the section we're
- 5:58getting into the history of men on men cry.
- 6:01That does sound a little homoerotic.
- 6:03No, I mean we're talking about the history of men policing
- 6:07other men's behavior. I feel like we definitely saw
- 6:09this more in the early 20 tens growing up.
- 6:12But like the y'all remember the hashtag no homo of it all And
- 6:14like men straight men actually using that unironically for or
- 6:18sag a completely normal sentence about another guy.
- 6:20Like there were times where boys in middle school and high school
- 6:22were being weird about eating bananas and that still happens
- 6:26to this day. Like God forbid a straight man
- 6:28eats a banana or a hot dog in public.
- 6:29Like I promise you the food's not going to make you gay if you
- 6:31weren't already. Fast forward to today where the
- 6:34statements evolved into things like pause AO and things like I
- 6:37man as signals that one person has gone too far into a non
- 6:41masculine territory or if what was said could be interpreted as
- 6:44some kind of homosexual rigmarole double entendre.
- 6:48And the thing about it is that at best statements like this and
- 6:51conversations like this either lead to a de escalation or just
- 6:54general disengagement from the conversation at hand and that
- 6:57worse occasional violence. And we see this most often in
- 7:00media now for Gen. Z and Janafa with streamers.
- 7:03I didn't do it. Say no homo what you mean I said
- 7:12pause. I said pause.
- 7:13Like sure this is definitely better than beating on gay
- 7:16people and being physically violent, but is this really
- 7:19where male allyship begins? Steering clear of topics or
- 7:23conversations that don't fit into the rigid sense of
- 7:25masculinity? What immediately comes to mind
- 7:27for me is like like the whole rhetoric go just don't bring
- 7:29that shit to me or saying pause or no homo isn't enough.
- 7:33In order to be in community with people, queer or not, you got to
- 7:36do your part to facilitate a space that people can be
- 7:38comfortable in. Like you're denying real aspects
- 7:39of your your friends that most of the time aren't actually gay
- 7:43and you know that so that you can be friends and operate
- 7:46within the masculine bounds of friendship.
- 7:48Which is just weird. Think about it like this.
- 7:50Say you have friends that are different from you.
- 7:52The more you treat people like regular people and not like some
- 7:55uncomfortable anomaly to be around, the better it'll be for
- 7:57us all. And it's nice and very cool by
- 7:59all to say that. But like that also really does
- 8:01require a shift in perspective from men and women to then not
- 8:04go on assuming that just because a guy is friends with gays that
- 8:07he's also gay zesty or DL or even if he doesn't have any
- 8:11outwardly gay friends. We need to stop with the belief
- 8:13that certain behaviors are quantifiably gay.
- 8:15Like for real tolerance and basic human empathy.
- 8:17Check. Now we're going to get a little
- 8:20academic with it and talk about a study around the concept of
- 8:23homo sociality. And I think homo sociality is
- 8:26something that we're seeing more and more of between men.
- 8:29And if you're unfamiliar, homo sociality is a form of men
- 8:31policing others behaviors and a somewhat panopticon style.
- 8:36The term homo social was popularized by queer theorist
- 8:38Eve Sedgwick, and the concept of sociality describes and defines
- 8:42social bonds between persons of the same sex.
- 8:44It is, for example, frequently used in studies on men and
- 8:47masculinities. They're defined as a mechanism
- 8:49and a social dynamic that explains the maintenance of
- 8:52hegeonomic masculinity. A popular use of the concept is
- 8:54found in studies on male friendship, male bonding, and
- 8:57fraternity orders, and it is also frequently applied to
- 8:59explain how men, through their friendships and intimate
- 9:01collaborations with other men, maintain and defend the gender
- 9:04order and patriarchy. Basically, it's the concept of
- 9:06men seeking the approval of other men by dogging on women
- 9:09more behavior in a way that is most pleasing to the social
- 9:12group, which is usually not including men or gays.
- 9:14And this is not to say that these men are gay or homosexual
- 9:17for doing so. But studies show that men have
- 9:19historically seek to build camaraderie and respect and move
- 9:22in a way that gains the approval of other men as to not teeter
- 9:25the norm and uphold patriarchy. And this right here is misogyny
- 9:29at play. Seeking the approval of the same
- 9:31sex by ostracizing, isolating, and objectifying the other.
- 9:34And because seeking approval from your Bros can be considered
- 9:37SUS or glazing, you toss in a lot of homo phobic rhetoric and
- 9:41verbiage just so that everyone knows you are not a homo.
- 9:45And unfortunately, even when it comes to women, they are no
- 9:47longer people but rather social currency, which is as scary and
- 9:51as terrible as it sounds like. If the Bros think she's hot,
- 9:53then that's leverage for the man.
- 9:55The discontinuity between male homosociality and homosexuality
- 9:58results in male homosocial relationships being a form of
- 10:01male bonding, which is characterized by homosocial
- 10:04desire as well as homosexual panic.
- 10:06Homo social desires refers to men turning their attention to
- 10:09other, and homosexual panic refers to the fear of this
- 10:13attention gliding over into homosexual desire.
- 10:16That's right, the fear that if you're too good to your
- 10:17homeboys, you might actually want your homeboy.
- 10:21In an attempt to emphasize heterosexuality, fear or hatred
- 10:24of homosexuals and misogynist language are developed.
- 10:27And again, none of this theory is to excuse misogyny or
- 10:30misogynoir and are 1000% things that need to be unpacked and
- 10:33changed about the culture of masculinity and especially
- 10:36within black masculinity. But that is just the level set
- 10:39A. Lot of theories just that male
- 10:40homosociality exists on the same spectrum as homoeroticism, but
- 10:44because of homo hysteria, there's a really strong
- 10:46conscious social effort to create this diacritical
- 10:48opposition between homosexuality and homosociality in male
- 10:51relationships. So we're conceptualizing male
- 10:53homosocial relationships as a form of male bonding that
- 10:56involves homosocial desire and intimacy as well as homosexual
- 10:59panic. So they're constantly turning
- 11:00their attention to other men, but then there's a really
- 11:02intense fear that this attention would glide into the homosexual.
- 11:05Territory. On top of that, I think that
- 11:06women being homosocial in a patriarchal world is more more
- 11:10of a form of protection and survival as opposed to why men
- 11:14are homosocial. Because within a patriarchal
- 11:16society, male relationships are often structured in a way that
- 11:19reinforces and perpetuates the patriarchy.
- 11:22Their relationships often function as a way to maintain
- 11:26social dominance and male privilege, which is why women
- 11:29are commodities amongst men. Now we've debriefed on man on
- 11:33man crime, it's time that we now turn our focus towards the rise
- 11:36of policing men's behavior from women, which is kind of crazy,
- 11:40say, given the patriarch give it all, but hear me out.
- 11:42And one of the more prominent ways we've been seeing this on
- 11:44social media have been from the rise of the.
- 11:47Sassy man Apocalypse. Sassy male apocalypse yes, the
- 11:51sassy man apocalypse and I hate to be the two woke friend, no I
- 11:54don't. But this trend never fully sat
- 11:56right with my spirit because it just got a little too
- 12:00comfortable with making claims around sexuality and gender
- 12:04expression. Oftentimes it feels like
- 12:05actually policing someone's gender expression, which like
- 12:08guys like thought we put in the legwork to move away from
- 12:11classic gender stereotypes and roles to a more fluid one.
- 12:14And what was all that for then? The labels of Sassy, Chalant,
- 12:18and Zesty feel like labels to scare men into acting a certain
- 12:21way or to not act a certain way. And by using gay as the
- 12:24instigating term, it's just again, reinforcing homophobia.
- 12:27Because if they were gay, then what?
- 12:29Why is being gay or fruity or effeminate the cobra insult
- 12:33here? I love taking the piss out of
- 12:34men. I will do it every day and twice
- 12:37on a Sunday. OK don't get it twisted.
- 12:39However, seeing women and girls and just people in general
- 12:44saying men are like sassy and things like that for liking like
- 12:47stereotypically feminine things. All for not being traditionally
- 12:51masculine is a very slippery slope.
- 12:54It's a very slippery slope into gender essentialism, and it's
- 12:57also wildly homophobic. Like it's similar to when people
- 13:00say things like zesty or SUS or punk, especially punk and
- 13:04fruity. Like I feel like we're getting a
- 13:05little too comfortable using these terms when especially for
- 13:08those of us that are straight to insinuate someone is gay.
- 13:11And again, even if they are, what's the problem?
- 13:14Like, why is this something that we need to be super vigilant
- 13:17over, like at all? Harkins back to the misconstrue
- 13:18belief that traditional men traditionally treated women well
- 13:22and with respect. And this current rise in things
- 13:24like red pill content and women hating somehow has to do with
- 13:27like the closeted homosexual men when again, to reinforce this
- 13:31video's thesis, being a woman hater is not a queer trait.
- 13:34In fact, I'd actually go as far to argue that that is the trait
- 13:37of the traditional man. If we're looking historically,
- 13:39the narrative from all sides of the Internet has devolved from.
- 13:42Yeah, there are times where people take their closeted
- 13:44repressed emotions and resentment that they can't live
- 13:47their truth out on women unfairly and unjustifiably.
- 13:50To now every man who mistreats a woman is a secret homo when no
- 13:53men can be and often times are terrible people.
- 13:56Like this whole DL until proven straight mentality needs to go.
- 14:00Like just toxic men who act violent or hateful to women to
- 14:03the gay team is crazy because misogyny has existed for so
- 14:07long. And if we want to take it a step
- 14:09further, that thought process also is insinuating that gay men
- 14:11hate women, which is like, OK. And I know that this is a
- 14:15sweeping generalization which likely does not match every
- 14:19single case, but many cases that are being publicized on social
- 14:22media and are becoming part of regular conversation can be and
- 14:26often times are harmful. Like the lack of attraction from
- 14:28queer men to women does not automatically mean that they
- 14:31hate them. And I know that that's common
- 14:33sense. But the way that this
- 14:34conversation has to fall really makes you wonder because I think
- 14:36this whole thing is just crazy. And again, I do want to preface
- 14:39because I feel like I'm coming on hot with this video.
- 14:41This is all not to defend straight men.
- 14:43This is to defend and the gays because it has been gay and
- 14:46wicked. No, Ariana, because at the end
- 14:49of the day, men demonstrating behavior that you don't like or
- 14:51agree with so you label them as gay as a response is homophobic,
- 14:56full stop. And I feel like we need to be
- 14:57real about that. Now, a key piece to this
- 14:59conversation that I've been meaning to talk about just
- 15:02generally and honestly, a piece of nuance that I don't feel like
- 15:05is talked about enough, especially in the context of
- 15:07this conversation has to do around the concepts of by
- 15:09erasure, biphobia and the intersection of bisexuality and
- 15:13people of color. Quite literally putting me buy
- 15:15in BIPOC. I'm kidding.
- 15:17That's not what that means. Although when I first heard the
- 15:19term BIPOC, I thought it was bisexual people of color, but we
- 15:21have learned it is Black Indigenous.
- 15:24But like I was saying, I think another aspect of this that so
- 15:26often gets looked over is the fact of the conversation around
- 15:29young men often gets very black and white.
- 15:31And people tend to forget that by people exist.
- 15:36And you may be like, yeah, OK, I get it by people exist, but
- 15:39like, why are people not being honest about it and living in
- 15:41their truth then? Well, biphobia.
- 15:43And no, biphobia isn't just a buzzword that I made-up and
- 15:47decided to throw on this video. There are actual studies to
- 15:49demonstrate that people report more negative sentiments towards
- 15:52bisexual individuals than gay and lesbian individuals.
- 15:55Which for one is interesting, and two is a whole inter
- 15:58community discourse that could be a whole separate video.
- 16:01But for the sake of this video, we looked into a study that
- 16:03specifically focuses on the intersections of bisexual
- 16:05identity. And according to this study,
- 16:07which is an examination of attitudes towards bisexual
- 16:09people at the intersections of gender and race and ethnicity,
- 16:12people actually reacted and more negatively to bisexual men than
- 16:15women, Black and Hispanic bisexuals, more than white
- 16:17bisexuals, and more negatively towards trans bisexuals than
- 16:20cisgender bisexuals. OK, cool.
- 16:22But what does all this mean? This is all to say that the
- 16:24demographic that experiences the most negative reactions and
- 16:27sentiments are BIPOC trans men bisexuals, are BIPOC trans men
- 16:31bisexuals and then CIS BIPOC bisexuals.
- 16:34Like not that this is like the Ginny and Georgia Depression
- 16:36Olympics or anything, but this is more to show the barriers and
- 16:38challenges this community faces and how that might lead for some
- 16:41people to stay DL. Because again, I feel like this
- 16:43part of the conversation isn't talked about enough.
- 16:45Often times DL people are not just gay, they are bisexual
- 16:50because they're still sexually intimate and often times
- 16:52emotionally intimate with the women that they're dating while
- 16:54also having an emotional relations with men.
- 16:58So just because DL is messing with guys on the low does not
- 17:01mean that he was just gay. And this mentality that we're
- 17:03talking about as to why people stay DL is also rooted in
- 17:07patriarchy. Like see, for the men out there
- 17:09that hate when I talk about the patriarchy, it literally impacts
- 17:11everyone. Lastly, for this point in the
- 17:15study, current discourse surrounding the down low or DL
- 17:18suddenly characterized secretive bisexuality as being all but
- 17:21exclusive to black men. Interestingly enough, classical
- 17:23studies of bisexuality in the US focus heavily on white men and
- 17:26women. Shocker.
- 17:27And according to that same study, black and Latino bisexual
- 17:30men have also been found to be less likely to disclose their
- 17:32same sex behaviors, particularly to their partners that are
- 17:35women. And when you hear this, it
- 17:36really reinforces some of the sentiments around the whole DL
- 17:38debate being like, oh, DL men are being very dishonest to
- 17:41women about who they are and who they play with.
- 17:43And he may be asking why that is.
- 17:45Well, 1/3 crucial factor is the strong lack of acceptance of
- 17:48bisexuality and homosexuality in black communities that several
- 17:52researchers have noted. And the reasoning behind that is
- 17:54that it's likely that the strong association between masculinity
- 17:57and heterosexuality makes it difficult for ethnic minority
- 17:59men to openly explore same sexual desires and develop a
- 18:03bisexual or homosexual identity. The research goes on to state
- 18:06that the strong association between masculinity and
- 18:08heterosexuality and black Latino ethnic minorities should not be
- 18:11understood as an essential link says they cannot be seen
- 18:14independently from the social position of ethnic minorities.
- 18:17And for me at least, I feel like it's true that there are vastly
- 18:19more queer people in compact couples due to society, and I
- 18:22feel like many of us contribute to that daily via the rhetoric
- 18:25that we both use on and offline. Bisexual people, and more
- 18:28specifically bisexual men, exist in droves.
- 18:32But a common thing that I hear from bisexual men is that it's
- 18:34harder for them to date or approach women if they are open
- 18:36about the fact that they've also been with or will continue to be
- 18:40with men. And I'm getting this straight
- 18:41from the source. I have dated plenty of by men in
- 18:44my day. We'll all share the similar
- 18:46sentiments of like being more romantically attracted to women
- 18:49and would ideally like to marry women.
- 18:51But the large stigma around being a by man who engages in
- 18:53the other side of byness becomes a sort of barrier to entry and
- 18:57thus it is easier and more convenient to then continue to
- 19:01be with men. And honestly, I don't know how
- 19:02to feel about being told that as the man who is with the bisexual
- 19:06man at the time. Well, considering I'm single, I
- 19:08think that speaks for itself. And this isn't necessarily to
- 19:11call the girlys out, more so to call everyone in to have a real
- 19:14conversation about the latent internalized homophobia and
- 19:17misogyny that's turning people off, or at least adverting
- 19:20people from actually taking by men seriously or being attracted
- 19:23to them in the first place. I think recognizing this in
- 19:25ourselves is the first step, because that just not in my yard
- 19:28business does not make you the ally that you think you are.
- 19:31Like whenever I talk about this I always think of that clip of
- 19:34Molly from Insecure cutting things off without one fine ass
- 19:37solid dude because he said that he experimented with the guy
- 19:40once in college and decided that he wasn't into it.
- 19:42Like that man made it clear that he was not even by but he still
- 19:45got the boot just for confirming that himself.
- 19:47Like okay, biphobia is a real thing.
- 19:51Molly was running a strict program, you hear me?
- 19:55But the point I'm trying to make here is that it's hard to have a
- 19:57conversation around the rates of like DL men not living in their
- 20:00truth while also the other side of things being punitive and
- 20:03mildly homophobic to those that do.
- 20:05It's contributing to some of the reasons as to why people stay in
- 20:08the closet or are on the DL. You always see that sentiment of
- 20:11like when it comes to being bi and you're a man, then you're
- 20:14just not confident enough to say that you're fully gay, but if
- 20:16you're a girl, you just want male attention.
- 20:18Which is obviously for one, just biphobic rhetoric, and two, for
- 20:21both cases is implying that the goal is a man.
- 20:23But this sentiment is still. Race of an ideology is even in
- 20:26that one episode of Insecure, the worry is that man who just
- 20:30experimented once, mind you, is just ADL man.
- 20:32And when it comes to by acceptance and by attraction or
- 20:35lack thereof, the main reasons I see online for women saying it's
- 20:38a preference to not be with a bisexual man has to do with
- 20:41sexual health. Which like if you're with a
- 20:43partner that you're actually interested in and is mature and
- 20:46safe, that is something that you can easily check or get tested.
- 20:49And I think primarily it's really unfair and dangerous
- 20:52rhetoric to think that every bisexual or gay man instantly
- 20:55has as a incurable disease like HIV.
- 20:57Like yes, stay vigilant and care about your sexual health
- 21:00generally, but that right there is a massive and harmful
- 21:03generalization. Another thing that I hear is
- 21:05that it's just a preference to not want to date bisexual men.
- 21:08And y'all might not be ready for this one, but that's not a
- 21:11preference that's a rule and just homophobia.
- 21:14Like please what does that have to do with you?
- 21:16If that man is with you honestly what does that matter what he's
- 21:19done previously? Like it's like the same
- 21:21mentality of someone deciding to not be with you based on your
- 21:24body count. Like why does that matter
- 21:26especially if you're already keeping your sexual health in
- 21:28check. I actually saw a really great
- 21:29TikTok on the concept like black masculinity and homosexuality
- 21:33talking about how like the worst thing a black man can be is gay.
- 21:36Not me being Public Enemy #1. Can we actually be that the
- 21:41worst thing that you can be as a black man is gay.
- 21:46Let's sit with that mad, isn't it?
- 21:48Not on a Not a racist, not an actual criminal.
- 21:52A gay man. 2 words. Religion and misogyny, both of
- 21:56which were arguably inherited from colonization, but that's
- 22:00the topic for another name. But the conversation goes
- 22:03further, stating that bisexuality itself is an attack
- 22:06on traditional black masculinity.
- 22:07And homosexuality we already know, but bisexuality as well is
- 22:10something that's very frowned upon both within black male
- 22:13centered circles and in general society.
- 22:15And like, we don't need to get into the weeds.
- 22:17Or more so, the roots of black masculinity and why that is such
- 22:22a strong thing, at least in America, because guess what?
- 22:25It stems from slam. But yeah, OK, at this point in
- 22:28the video, we've talked about the guys, we've talked about the
- 22:30girls. It's time we talk about the game
- 22:33and more so bringing this all around the concept of gay or
- 22:36queer people being the butt of the joke and ultimately the ones
- 22:38suffering the long term consequences of this whole
- 22:41debate. At the end of the day, all this
- 22:42discourse just reinforces people's latent disapproval or
- 22:46problems with queerness and gay people.
- 22:47And at the core of the idea, allegations or identifying SUS
- 22:51or zesty men is a disdain for queer men.
- 22:54Even if the man in question is not gay themselves, they should
- 22:57rectify their behavior and abide by the antiquated patriarchal
- 23:00standards as to not be mistaken. Looking for gay.
- 23:05Like the concept of smiling in your gay besties face while also
- 23:08praying that your kids don't turn out to be gay themselves
- 23:11and bleeding deep down that your friends are destined for hell or
- 23:13preferring that your man isn't bisexual is all just straight up
- 23:17homophobia and we can't continue to sugarcoat it as anything
- 23:20else. Normalizing sentiments like this
- 23:22only legitimizes and gets more people comfortable with the
- 23:24inevitable repealing of gay rights and the rise of
- 23:27homophobia. Because right now it's still in
- 23:29its coded messaging dog whistling stage.
- 23:31But as we know with most things that have followed this pattern
- 23:34over the past couple of years specifically.
- 23:36Do you think that President Trump is a fascist?
- 23:38And after President Trump said that, I said yes.
- 23:40The less we check it, the more comfortable we come around these
- 23:43ideas, the more overt the messaging will become.
- 23:46And that will inevitably lead into public sentiment and
- 23:48ultimately policies. And if you don't care about any
- 23:51of that, let me make it personal.
- 23:52It's time we talk about the real life dangers of outing DL men.
- 23:54Because with a lot of the discourse around outing DL men,
- 23:57especially from my LGBT qua brothers and sisters, there
- 24:00unfortunately is a real danger that comes with outing these
- 24:03individuals who aren't ready to be outed.
- 24:05And oftentimes that could result in things like bodily harm or
- 24:08just flat out schmurter like guys, come on, especially in the
- 24:11community, we know the dangers of being outed.
- 24:13So let's just leave these DL men alone.
- 24:17And that's not to protect them, that's to protect you. 2 wrongs
- 24:20don't make it right. And outing someone really is
- 24:22never OK. And I thought we knew this.
- 24:24We never know people's situations.
- 24:26And while yes, being played by ADL man is not fun, whether
- 24:29you're a woman or the secret hookup, but please leave that
- 24:32that man alone. And I know there are situations
- 24:33in which some people have built lives together.
- 24:35Maybe there are kids involved. And I wanted to explain that
- 24:38cheating is not OK and everyone has different circumstances and
- 24:41cannot possibly speak to them all.
- 24:42And when I'm speaking about this generally, I don't mean those
- 24:45extenuating circumstances. But if you do think that your
- 24:48man is DL and you're able to safely leave that situation, do
- 24:51so. While sexuality preferences can
- 24:53be problematic, you don't need to be a part of someone's
- 24:55process if they themselves aren't ready to be who they are.
- 24:59You don't need to be a part of the process of helping them
- 25:01figure that out if you don't want to.
- 25:02But that also doesn't mean that you're entitled to out someone,
- 25:05because outing people can be very traumatic, further repress
- 25:07people and or put them in severe danger.
- 25:10And while it's nice to think that we've completely overcome
- 25:12homophobia and now live in a society where it doesn't impact
- 25:15your daily life as a queer person, that unfortunately is
- 25:18far from the truth. The needle has certainly been
- 25:21pushed forward, but there is still a lot more work to be done
- 25:24and much to overcome, especially if you have intersectional
- 25:26identities. It impacts people from all
- 25:28levels, from personal life to career.
- 25:30Especially when the Internet is on a witch hunt.
- 25:32And I completely understand it can be easy to get caught up in
- 25:35it and sometimes it could be really entertaining or even
- 25:37funny. But I think it's about time we
- 25:38check in with ourselves and see what kind of verbiage and
- 25:41rhetoric we are using online and in real life surrounding the
- 25:44queer community. Because at the end of the day,
- 25:45when that day got to end, we do not have to live this way.
- 25:48These are all really just social constructs we created to uphold
- 25:51the patriarchal system that is obviously not working for any of
- 25:55us. Men, please release yourself
- 25:57from the shackles of homophobia and be yourself.
- 26:01Therapy and self afflection if you're required into my ladies,
- 26:03especially my straight girls watching.
- 26:05Let's please look inward and address some of that
- 26:08internalized homophobia and misogyny.
- 26:10Because yes, unfortunately y'all can be under some spells too.
- 26:13OK into my gaze. Leave that DL trade alone.
- 26:19Put that down so that we can all maximize our joint liberated and
- 26:24DL free slay.
