- 1:20Speaker 2: Welcome everyone, you know not. Everyone might not like Star.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Wars, but they do like true crime and I like Alkamahole.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I was gonna say beer, but yeah, same thing.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I'm actually drinking a smearing off ice. I'm really changing
- 1:36Speaker 2: it up. It's not local, it's not wine, like what
- 1:40Speaker 2: the fuck?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but we kind of need the booze this week.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Cheers first of all, and cheers to you guys out
- 1:46Speaker 1: there listening chures welcome. This has been one roller coaster
- 1:51Speaker 1: of a week. First off, we hit one thousand followers
- 1:55Speaker 1: on Instagram. Whoa, So thank you to everyone out.
- 1:58Speaker 2: There for that inst sweet bollus on there. We're gonna
- 2:01Speaker 2: just like post more and more.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think, oh, definitely, we're getting memes and there's always
- 2:05Speaker 1: not always there's usually a hint for the upcoming episode,
- 2:08Speaker 1: which I seriously thought I had people fooled on this one.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I can't believe.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But you fail as guest, one day you will we
- 2:16Speaker 2: will win one day.
- 2:17Speaker 1: One day. That's literally are at least my mission? Is
- 2:21Speaker 1: it for you too?
- 2:22Speaker 2: No?
- 2:22Speaker 1: Okay, well it's my mission.
- 2:24Speaker 2: It's one hundred percent more of your mission. And I
- 2:26Speaker 2: bet you it won't be my mission, but I'll win probably.
- 2:28Speaker 1: But the more people don't tune in, the harder it's
- 2:30Speaker 1: gonna get.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well, because some people are like like I
- 2:34Speaker 2: thought I was a True Crime fan before, but like
- 2:37Speaker 2: I don't think I was some comparatively.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, like there's I don't think I would have guessed
- 2:42Speaker 1: any of our hints. Well maybe one or two. Well,
- 2:44Speaker 1: like like it has.
- 2:46Speaker 2: A good work.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And then we hit another milestone this week you want
- 2:50Speaker 1: to dish it.
- 2:52Speaker 2: We hit a hundred thousand plays on the podcast Lock
- 2:56Speaker 2: and Wild.
- 2:57Speaker 1: You guys have listened to us now officially over one hundred.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's like one hundred and thirty.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think we're at one hundred and thirteen thousand plays.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Now, which is just crazy.
- 3:07Speaker 1: That's what you guys have listened to us.
- 3:08Speaker 2: It's funny when I tell people this, I'm like, yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I guess people like us. I don't really know why
- 3:12Speaker 2: what they do.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, as far as everyone's told us, it's
- 3:17Speaker 1: like you guys are sitting down chatting with friends, which
- 3:19Speaker 1: we love.
- 3:20Speaker 2: That love. That's actually the vibe that if I would
- 3:22Speaker 2: pick a vibe, that'd be the vibell.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Definitely, definitely the vibe.
- 3:26Speaker 2: The vibe we are. We have the vibe down.
- 3:29Speaker 1: We have the vibe down. And then lastly, we have
- 3:33Speaker 1: some news that rolled in today.
- 3:35Speaker 2: This is like personal news, right.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yes, we sold our house officially, it's sold.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's freakin' sold. And that was a roller coaster of
- 3:43Speaker 2: a motherfucker ride.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yes, it was. Yeah, well that was anything in everything
- 3:49Speaker 1: that could have made that even more stressful, made that
- 3:53Speaker 1: just that much more stressful, and it happened. It was ridiculous.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Like I literally after it was finally announced that
- 3:59Speaker 2: it was official, both of us were just like this
- 4:03Speaker 2: major weight our shoulders just sayank a little bit. It
- 4:06Speaker 2: was really nice feeling.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Actually, I feel like I just grew like two inches
- 4:10Speaker 1: taller and like lost like thirty pounds off my shoulders
- 4:13Speaker 1: in that stress.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because even if it's not like on your mind
- 4:16Speaker 2: at that particular time, it's on your mind still, like
- 4:20Speaker 2: it's just back there. Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So we are moving into our tiny home this September.
- 4:25Speaker 1: September twentieth is our official. Yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 2: We have to be out of here in three weeks.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So you guys are going to be seeing a lot
- 4:30Speaker 1: of tiny home stuff coming up on our Instagram, probably
- 4:33Speaker 1: at least in the stories.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Which is sweet.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And you are going to be hearing tiny home podcasts
- 4:38Speaker 1: pretty soon.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I wonder how it's gonna sound in there.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Hey, right, we'll make it sound good. Oh, we do
- 4:45Speaker 1: have another thing tomorrow. You are officially Oh yeah, haste
- 4:49Speaker 1: full time photographer.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, as of four thirty, I do not have a
- 4:54Speaker 2: corporate day job anymore, full.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Time photography, and who knows, maybe you'll be doing like
- 5:00Speaker 1: some full time podcast and soon too.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I know, it's like wild, I don't know what's going
- 5:04Speaker 2: to what I'm going to do. I think I bet
- 5:06Speaker 2: you would be another just like weight lifted off, probably
- 5:09Speaker 2: because that place I don't know work. I got slapped
- 5:14Speaker 2: in the face this year and really was shown that
- 5:18Speaker 2: you're kind of just a number. You know, you work
- 5:21Speaker 2: your ass off for other people, but you are replaceable,
- 5:24Speaker 2: so to some, not to all companies. Some companies are better,
- 5:29Speaker 2: but especially like corporate you know, I really think even
- 5:32Speaker 2: more so you're probably just a number.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Well, I definitely feel you there. You and I are both,
- 5:37Speaker 1: or at least we're both in that situation. As of tomorrow,
- 5:40Speaker 1: you no longer are, but we are slowly moving towards
- 5:43Speaker 1: that direction of our life goal doing podcast, photography, videography
- 5:48Speaker 1: and living the tiny home life.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah, to be like doing our own ventures, and you'll
- 5:53Speaker 2: be behind me very You'll be there soon, very soon.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and we of course have all you guys helping
- 5:58Speaker 1: us on that path. So thank you very much everything
- 6:01Speaker 1: along thing this journey so far.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And it's funny when you first said that why we're drinking,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was gonna be like, yeah, because this case is fucked.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You told me is why I need alcohol. This case
- 6:14Speaker 2: is not because of these other things.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So to warn everyone out there, if you recall, if
- 6:20Speaker 1: you did listen to forty four Days of Hell, Junco Fortura,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I think because how you actually say your name. I
- 6:27Speaker 1: believe I was pronouncing your name. Okay, okay, I think
- 6:29Speaker 1: I had the R in the wrong spot of her name.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's Fortura, I think. But it's very reminiscent of that episode,
- 6:36Speaker 1: which is the worst episode we've done so far.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Well, it shook me.
- 6:39Speaker 1: This one's not quite as bad, but it's almost.
- 6:43Speaker 2: As bad because the amount that I still think about
- 6:47Speaker 2: that episode like just blows my mind. It was this
- 6:50Speaker 2: the worst story I think I've ever heard. Yeah, and
- 6:52Speaker 2: so everyone on the on instagrams, oh my gosh, I'm
- 6:54Speaker 2: so excited, and here I'm just like, shit, how can
- 6:57Speaker 2: I get out of this? But no, it is like
- 7:02Speaker 2: at least it's entertaining, but it's just like, oh, it's
- 7:05Speaker 2: just brutal. But I'm here for it.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Well, buckle up your seatbelts, because we are moving into
- 7:13Speaker 1: the case that is known as the Hello Kitty Murder.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Oh gosh, if that's not a creepy name, I don't
- 7:20Speaker 1: know what it is.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I did see that on Instagram because yeah, I
- 7:24Speaker 2: kind of followed the comments, but I do actually read
- 7:28Speaker 2: the comments. Yeah, and I was like that, and that's
- 7:31Speaker 2: literally what went through my mind. That's a fucked up name.
- 7:33Speaker 2: But okay, let's do it.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You're gonna learn why it's a fucked up name, because
- 7:37Speaker 1: this is a fucked up case.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Really really, okay, I do know.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Well, surprise, I'm.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Gonna I should have got a second smear en off.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But that's okay.
- 7:47Speaker 1: We can pause this.
- 7:48Speaker 2: We can pause it for a beverage break.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Get a whole ass bottle of wine in each hand. Okay,
- 7:54Speaker 1: let's go into this. So in May of nineteen ninety nine,
- 8:00Speaker 1: a young fourteen year old girl made her way to
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Hong Kong police station. This takes place in Hong Kong. Clearly,
- 8:06Speaker 1: if you didn't catch on to that, now you know, yeah, no,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I know, okay, So slowly she opened the door and
- 8:12Speaker 1: reluctantly walked in. She spoke with the officers at the
- 8:15Speaker 1: front desk in a terrified voice, and she revealed that
- 8:19Speaker 1: for the past several weeks she had been constantly plagued
- 8:23Speaker 1: by the ghost of a woman who had been bound
- 8:25Speaker 1: by electrical wire, beaten, and tortured to death. Her lifeless
- 8:30Speaker 1: body would follow her into her dreams, where she would
- 8:34Speaker 1: see her headless and a voice would scream at her,
- 8:37Speaker 1: saying to give her head back.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Okay, so this is a lot to take care.
- 8:45Speaker 2: That is a lot, because ever says like, oh, no,
- 8:48Speaker 2: she's only fourteen, but okay, but well, just I hold
- 8:53Speaker 2: on that. I know, I know, yeah I jumped there.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah. But police were clearly this is a lot taken Like,
- 8:59Speaker 1: police are like, what the fuck right, They're stunned. Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: they weren't really too sure what to think of this
- 9:04Speaker 1: for the most part. They kind of just brushed her off,
- 9:06Speaker 1: really kind of dismissing it as nothing more than like
- 9:09Speaker 1: nightmares or just having a nightmare, or potentially even just
- 9:13Speaker 1: a kid pulling a prank. They quickly looked her up
- 9:16Speaker 1: in the system at the front desk, and she had
- 9:19Speaker 1: known to have some like run away and run in
- 9:22Speaker 1: with the police and.
- 9:23Speaker 2: That sort of stuff, so dang it.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Okay, so they're like, okay, maybe she's just like pulling
- 9:27Speaker 1: a prank or just you know, you got to go home.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Like what can the police do about your nightmares? Like, sorry,
- 9:31Speaker 1: little girl, like maybe talk to your mom and dad
- 9:34Speaker 1: or maybe I don't know, try not watching scary movies
- 9:38Speaker 1: before beds sort of thing.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Listening to True crime afore.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Bed Yeah that too.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I think a lot of people actually listened to that
- 9:44Speaker 2: to like fall asleep, and I probably thinks hilarious.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I usually listen on my ride to work.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, when I.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Quit my day job, I'm gonna have to find a
- 9:52Speaker 1: spot to listen to my true crime.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I usually listen on road trips. I get caught up
- 9:55Speaker 2: by I haven't really been doing any road trips, so
- 9:58Speaker 2: I'm a little behind.
- 10:00Speaker 1: You'll find time. Yeah, there's always time. Yeah, true crime
- 10:03Speaker 1: there is, oh T shirt.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Idea, there's always time. But crime. There you go, and
- 10:09Speaker 2: your nasty, nasty, nasty. That's my favorite.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That's a good one. So the police attitude, however, did
- 10:18Speaker 1: quickly change when the girl explained that the ghost was
- 10:21Speaker 1: of a woman that she had the hand in of murdering.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Oh that would change.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So the officers are like, wait, you helped kill
- 10:33Speaker 1: this woman.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Excuse.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So officers were led back to the girls apartment and
- 10:40Speaker 1: the city's run down Kowloon district. I really hope I
- 10:43Speaker 1: pronounce that right. And there they walked up through the
- 10:46Speaker 1: apartment number thirty one on Granville.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Road, and so the little girls leading them her apartment.
- 10:53Speaker 1: They're taking, well, it's not her apartment, but where she lives. Well, yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: to the apartment she claims that murder. Murder happened. So
- 11:03Speaker 1: it was a five bedroom apartment, and when officers arrived,
- 11:07Speaker 1: they were greeted with an overwhelming smell of rot and decaying.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Gross.
- 11:13Speaker 1: The girl's dreams may not have been dreams. They may
- 11:17Speaker 1: more likely have been very real nightmares.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Oh gross.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Okay, So that's kind of our little introduction.
- 11:24Speaker 2: That's quite the intro.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So this case is actually a little fact for you here,
- 11:28Speaker 1: little factoids. This case has been labeled as the fourth
- 11:32Speaker 1: most infamous case in Hong Kong as per Poles in
- 11:36Speaker 1: early two thousands, but many actually argue that it's since
- 11:40Speaker 1: risen to number one.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Really interesting, and there's.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Also been two film adaptations in two thousand and one
- 11:48Speaker 1: of this gruesome case.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Which and that's what you posted.
- 11:51Speaker 1: It was one of the hints. It was one of
- 11:53Speaker 1: the film posters on Instagram. The two films are titled
- 11:58Speaker 1: Human Pork Chop and There's a Secret in My Soup.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You raised your hand like you had a question.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you don't have to announce that. I love it.
- 12:09Speaker 2: But okay, are those like I'm curious, I forgot to ask,
- 12:11Speaker 2: are those like popular movies or what? Are not really
- 12:14Speaker 2: like I'm.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Sure they were, like they were more popular at the
- 12:17Speaker 1: time in Hong Kong. I don't think they've had well,
- 12:20Speaker 1: they might have translated copies. I don't know. Okay, I've
- 12:23Speaker 1: never watched them. I kinda I almost want to now,
- 12:26Speaker 1: but now also knowing that they're adapted from a real murder,
- 12:30Speaker 1: it's like, I don't.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Know if like I do like those true stories, but normally,
- 12:35Speaker 2: like for sports inspirational.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Movies, yeah, yeah, you get that Sandra Bullock in there
- 12:40Speaker 1: with the football one hundred percent, but like this one
- 12:43Speaker 1: is like, I don't know, I don't think like a
- 12:44Speaker 1: horror movie should be adapted from a true true crime.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I understand like entertainment value in wanting to see horror movies.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I love that but it's I don't know, it almost
- 12:54Speaker 1: seems like it's crossing that line for much maybe for
- 12:57Speaker 1: the victim, you know.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm not I.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Want to watch these movies, but I'm a little bit
- 13:02Speaker 1: conflicted at the same time. So anyways, this is the
- 13:06Speaker 1: story of Fan Man Yee. She was born in nineteen
- 13:09Speaker 1: seventy six. She had a rough childhood. Her life began
- 13:13Speaker 1: as she was abandoned as a child by her parents
- 13:17Speaker 1: and she was forced to be raised in an all
- 13:19Speaker 1: girls' school in Hong Kong. Oh god, they're good.
- 13:24Speaker 2: No, I'm already not good. You're just like holding your
- 13:26Speaker 2: my heart. It just like she had a ship life
- 13:30Speaker 2: right from the get go. Oh but I mean, would
- 13:32Speaker 2: it be better if she didn't?
- 13:33Speaker 1: But still would it be better if she didn't?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Well no, it might mean like would this story be
- 13:38Speaker 2: easier to swallow if she had a good childhood? I
- 13:41Speaker 2: dobably not think. So, Okay, I'm already there, Okay, let's
- 13:46Speaker 2: do it. Let's do it. We're doing it.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Okay. She grew up into her teen years, and she
- 13:52Speaker 1: began to develop a drug addiction and to help support
- 13:56Speaker 1: her addictions, just like many others did, into becoming a
- 14:00Speaker 1: sex worker and pay for the habits that she developed.
- 14:03Speaker 2: As a teenager. Sucks.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Okay, things did eventually turn around for fan Men Ye. However,
- 14:10Speaker 1: by the time she was twenty three years old, she
- 14:12Speaker 1: ended up landing herself a nice, steady job and was
- 14:15Speaker 1: working as a hostess at a nightclub in Hong Kong.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Right on.
- 14:19Speaker 1: No, like hostess isn't necessarily like a glamor like a glamorous,
- 14:23Speaker 1: super high paying job. But it was a job, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: it was a good job for her, and it was
- 14:27Speaker 1: a way to escape the life that she grew up
- 14:29Speaker 1: in and she learned to hate.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so she's trying to make like a better life
- 14:35Speaker 1: for herself. She's trying to get out of that.
- 14:38Speaker 2: So that's good.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. She was, however, still living paycheck to paycheck,
- 14:44Speaker 1: aren't we all? Yeah, one hundred percent, Like so many
- 14:47Speaker 1: people can understand the pressure that it brings, a lot.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Of people live that way.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think, yeah, well, struggle to pay bills, like any
- 14:54Speaker 1: sort of savings, that sort of thing.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I got a burp. This beer is like foamy. I'm
- 15:00Speaker 1: good xy, No, I'm not good, Okay, now I'm good. Sorry,
- 15:05Speaker 1: my bad.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Oh welcome to wickeding Man.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yep, that's pretty well sums it up right there. So,
- 15:15Speaker 1: she unfortunately was still a sex worker on the side
- 15:18Speaker 1: to earn necessary money that she needed to subsidize her paycheck.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And although she despised using drugs anymore, she was still using.
- 15:28Speaker 1: She had an addiction, right Okay, it was hard for
- 15:31Speaker 1: her to turn away, and a lot of people who
- 15:34Speaker 1: struggle with addiction can attest to the same sort of thing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So with an addiction, with whatever extra money she did
- 15:40Speaker 1: end up accumulating with intentions of saving, she would tend
- 15:44Speaker 1: to spend it on her addiction, right dang. In nineteen
- 15:49Speaker 1: ninety six, Fan, I'm going to not refer to as
- 15:52Speaker 1: fan Man yet just Fan. From here on out, her
- 15:56Speaker 1: life began to look up a little bit. She got
- 16:00Speaker 1: married and she had given birth to a baby boy.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Wow. Right on.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Her family kept her going and it gave her a
- 16:06Speaker 1: reason to try and aim for a better life, even
- 16:10Speaker 1: though both her and her husband were using drugs. Yes. So,
- 16:16Speaker 1: then in nineteen ninety seven, she met thirty four year
- 16:19Speaker 1: old She met a thirty four year old there you go,
- 16:22Speaker 1: my bad man by the name of chan Man Luck.
- 16:26Speaker 1: While working at the nightclub and the two hit it off,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and as it turns out, Chan happened to be a
- 16:32Speaker 1: pimp who sold drugs.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Okay, but she's also still married.
- 16:38Speaker 1: She's still married, yes, and.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Meeting someone else that she's hitting it off with.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Well, she didn't like originally, just hit it off with
- 16:46Speaker 1: them in like a sexual way. It was more so
- 16:48Speaker 1: likely became friends at first, Okay, but him being a pimp.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I mean, things turn a little bit here.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Now.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I lost my place.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'm very intrigued here. I'm allowed to ask questions.
- 17:04Speaker 1: You are you are? I'm not giving you shit. I'm
- 17:07Speaker 1: just trying to stall while I find my.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Spot on the point knows you asked me a million
- 17:11Speaker 2: questions during a case, and you have no patience whatsoever
- 17:14Speaker 2: to find out the outcome.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I get really excited and curious you do. Oh, I
- 17:21Speaker 1: lost my spot entirely, like page even.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was trying to stall.
- 17:24Speaker 1: More for you, I know, but then I was talking
- 17:26Speaker 1: to you. But here we are. I found it.
- 17:29Speaker 2: We're good, okay, awesome, Okay.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So it was the beginning of a very convenient friendship,
- 17:35Speaker 1: Like I said, friendship for the both of them. Fan
- 17:38Speaker 1: had joined Manlocke's group of girls. So I should refer
- 17:42Speaker 1: him as Chan. I wrote there his last name him.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So Chan this group of girls he would set out
- 17:47Speaker 1: on jobs. So she did what she was told, not
- 17:51Speaker 1: necessarily told or demanded, but she was like, yeah, sure,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'll join in, right, she set out to work. She
- 17:57Speaker 1: looked at his benefit for her to earn new clients.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It was an opportunity to get out there and use
- 18:03Speaker 1: that market that he was in to bring in more
- 18:05Speaker 1: money for herself and of course have a drug dealer
- 18:10Speaker 1: basically on speed dial on the side.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, this doesn't sound like it's going to be the
- 18:15Speaker 2: best for her.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Definitely not. And it did get to the point too
- 18:19Speaker 1: where Chan would actually pay Fan for sex as well.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Oh really yes, So.
- 18:25Speaker 1: They didn't have an intimate relationship per se, but they
- 18:29Speaker 1: did exchange money for sex the two of them.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And like her when she was with her husband previously
- 18:36Speaker 2: to meeting Chan, was she being a sex worker too?
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yes, Oh, she's been a sex worker pretty well this
- 18:44Speaker 1: whole time since her teens.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Okay, so even while she was married there with the kid.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Okay, Now, it's not clear to me as far as
- 18:51Speaker 1: whether the husband knows she was a sex worker.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, that's what I was curious.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Later on in the court case through this whole thing,
- 19:02Speaker 1: her husband does say that she was clean, she wasn't
- 19:05Speaker 1: using anymore. Whether that was a flat out lie or
- 19:09Speaker 1: he just didn't know, but okay, so it could very
- 19:12Speaker 1: well be the same thing. He was just not knowledgeable
- 19:14Speaker 1: of the sex work as well.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:16Speaker 1: So it came to March seventeenth, nineteen ninety nine, when
- 19:23Speaker 1: fans drug addiction once again got the better of her,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and this time she didn't have any money at hand
- 19:28Speaker 1: to support it. So she became desperate for cash, and
- 19:32Speaker 1: she made a decision that would that she would regret
- 19:35Speaker 1: for the rest of her life. She turned to stealing
- 19:39Speaker 1: Chan's wallet. Now, her and Chan were together one evening
- 19:45Speaker 1: for a sexual encounter that he was paying her for, okay,
- 19:48Speaker 1: And after he had left the room, she snagged his
- 19:51Speaker 1: wallet and stole his cash.
- 19:53Speaker 2: And he's like, scary dud.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Well, he's a pimp, drug dealer guy, so he's into
- 19:57Speaker 1: gangs and shit and yeah.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Shit, yeah, I guess so.
- 20:00Speaker 1: So the wallet would contain approximately twenty thousand Hong Kong dollars,
- 20:04Speaker 1: which would equal out to two thousand five hundred and
- 20:08Speaker 1: sixty US dollars.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Okay, At first, I was like, whoa, who cares?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Around twenty genis which is approximately equivalent to four thousand,
- 20:15Speaker 1: three hundred and fifty four dollars today in US dollars.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Which is like, still a significant amount of money to
- 20:21Speaker 2: just be carrying in your freaking wallet.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It is, and if you put that into Canadian that's
- 20:26Speaker 1: probably damn near five thousand dollars Canadian today.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I feel like, if I have fifty bucks in my wallet,
- 20:30Speaker 2: I'm like, we live in life.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Whoa, I go to Timmy's Boys. Okay, sorry, Timmy's run aside.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So when Chan found out, he was literally in a
- 20:46Speaker 1: brutal blind rage when he discovered that his money was missing,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and he obviously quickly was able to figure out who
- 20:53Speaker 1: stole it, as Fan was the only one in the
- 20:56Speaker 1: room at the time it went missing. Right, So he
- 20:59Speaker 1: set out and up with his friends, twenty seven year
- 21:02Speaker 1: old Lung shin Cho, twenty one year old Lung Wai Lun,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and Chan's fourteen year old underage girlfriend. Now remember Chan
- 21:13Speaker 1: is I believe thirty four years old, oh and his
- 21:17Speaker 1: girlfriend is fourteen wow?
- 21:20Speaker 2: Okay, so this is going south isn't it.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, With his three accomplices, they went out, kidnapped Fan
- 21:30Speaker 1: and took her back to his apartment at number thirty
- 21:33Speaker 1: one Granville Road, where they imprisoned her.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh my goodness okay and that fourt okay.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Oh you're putting it together as a fourteen.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Year old girl usually doesn't connect. But it's connecting to
- 21:45Speaker 2: way to go.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Good job him five on that one?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yes, boh okay, wow okay.
- 21:53Speaker 1: So Chan's plan originally was to pimp out Fan continuously
- 22:00Speaker 1: until he felt that his debt was paid back plus interest.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Now, when Fan was first confronted, she quickly admitted what
- 22:09Speaker 1: she'd done, like super storry, gave the money back instantly,
- 22:14Speaker 1: plus a couple hundred more that she had earned in
- 22:17Speaker 1: the time that it took for Chan to find her.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So she had paid back already the money plus.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Interest, which is really good it is.
- 22:27Speaker 1: However, Chan didn't consider this payment to the debt. This
- 22:31Speaker 1: was just his money.
- 22:32Speaker 2: He's not a forgiving dude, no, by the sounds of it.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So he got his money. It was already his money.
- 22:38Speaker 1: But now she owes him plus interest.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but shared he paid him extra.
- 22:43Speaker 1: That was his money now he needs her money plus interest.
- 22:49Speaker 1: That's the perspective he had.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Terrible will make mistakes, And she was like having an addiction, like,
- 22:56Speaker 2: but I'm sure this dude is just not a kind
- 22:58Speaker 2: of person.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I would not label him as kind.
- 23:02Speaker 2: He's probably the opposite of kind.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I would label him as many things, among one of
- 23:07Speaker 1: them probably a douche canoe.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like a nasty mouful.
- 23:10Speaker 1: You're nasty, That's what i'd say to Yeah, he's he's
- 23:15Speaker 1: a piece of work. This man's piece of shit.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Well I already feel that way, and I probably don't
- 23:20Speaker 2: even know half of it.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Like if if shit could walk and it was this person, no, no, no,
- 23:25Speaker 1: if shit could walk and it would step in shit,
- 23:29Speaker 1: it would be like, ew, I stepped in chan. That's
- 23:32Speaker 1: what shit would say.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Oh gosh, so nice.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Right, Well not really, it's kind of gross.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well it's it's a nice description. I like it.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I like it a lot.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Well, thank you. I went later on here we're going
- 23:45Speaker 1: to get into some well coming up here. Actually, in
- 23:48Speaker 1: a moment, I went to some good descriptive writing. So
- 23:50Speaker 1: let's see how I'll do it.
- 23:51Speaker 2: All cool.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Now being held captive, fan was about to endure more
- 23:58Speaker 1: in a month than any human ever should in a lifetime.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And to top it all off, the place she was
- 24:05Speaker 1: being held captive at was something out of a nightmare,
- 24:09Speaker 1: but not something you would expect. Side note, here's where
- 24:12Speaker 1: my descriptive writing comes in. Let's say, okay, let's see
- 24:15Speaker 1: how I do. I'm really proud of this, but to
- 24:19Speaker 1: be fair, I wrote it when I was really tired
- 24:20Speaker 1: last night and I haven't gone over it since. So
- 24:22Speaker 1: maybe maybe it's terrible. We'll find out. So I'm gonna
- 24:25Speaker 1: read it verbatim here. Okay, we all know creepy places
- 24:29Speaker 1: are dark, cold, and even damp. Maybe there are echoes
- 24:33Speaker 1: that ring through large open spaces but you can't see
- 24:35Speaker 1: how far it goes. Or maybe the walls are tight
- 24:38Speaker 1: with a low, overhanging roof that seems to be shrinking
- 24:41Speaker 1: down every minute. Perhaps it's a tranquil forest where no
- 24:45Speaker 1: person is around. You are totally alone, but once you
- 24:49Speaker 1: stop to listen, you notice there are no birds chirping
- 24:53Speaker 1: or humming of insects, just silence. How was that that
- 24:59Speaker 1: was good? Yeah?
- 25:00Speaker 2: Like I'm impressed.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Had I'm a back for that one?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Like ten? Ten? Good job, thank you?
- 25:05Speaker 1: Okay, so this place was not that kind of creepy.
- 25:09Speaker 1: This place was a totally different kind of creepy. It's
- 25:13Speaker 1: kind of reminiscent of like, you know, some people are
- 25:15Speaker 1: afraid of, like birthday clowns, like the laughs, the smiles
- 25:19Speaker 1: and every move like it's creepy. Right, Yeah, Well, this apartment,
- 25:23Speaker 1: for whatever reason, was similar to that. It was a
- 25:26Speaker 1: doorn top to bottom with brightly colored Hello Kitty decor.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Oh okay, this is where this comes in.
- 25:33Speaker 1: From pillows to blankets, to dishes, furniture posters that covered
- 25:39Speaker 1: the walls, dolls, plush toys in the apartment. It was
- 25:43Speaker 1: just full on hell Hello Kitty, room for room.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Whose freaking apartment was this?
- 25:50Speaker 1: This was Chance apartment.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Really. I don't know if it was one of maybe I.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Don't know if it was his like stay at apartment,
- 25:58Speaker 1: but I do know that he opers rated as a
- 26:01Speaker 1: drug dealer and a pimp out of this apartment. He
- 26:04Speaker 1: did a lot of like transaction stores sort of stuff.
- 26:06Speaker 2: He was like literally obsessed with Hello Killer Kitty.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I think, so, yeah, that's.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Wild, yeah, but I like, oh, I'm the Hello Kitty
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think is well popular here too, but even worse
- 26:19Speaker 2: over there.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Right, Well, I'm not too sure if it is even
- 26:23Speaker 1: more so over there, but I do know, like literally
- 26:25Speaker 1: when Hello Kitty came out, like it was just exploded,
- 26:28Speaker 1: like worldwide.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I remember being in a Hello Kitty store when
- 26:31Speaker 2: I was like probably fourteen.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Ye. I don't know where I was here in northern
- 26:37Speaker 1: British Columbia.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Oh no, no, it's just a store chilling out a
- 26:41Speaker 2: pine tree. When I was there, Oh that makes sense,
- 26:44Speaker 2: was dead, Yeah, gotcha. But I wasn't super into Hello Kitty.
- 26:49Speaker 2: But I was like also, like, this is okay. I
- 26:51Speaker 2: can get down for this. But I don't think i'd
- 26:53Speaker 2: have my whole house no decorated Hello Kitty. I wasn't
- 26:56Speaker 2: quite there. No, no, not quite.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Maybe one day.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Yeah maybe the tiny Oh this our tiny home. Let's
- 27:03Speaker 2: do Hello Kitty.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Can we like sculpt a big Hello Kitty head on
- 27:07Speaker 1: the front of it.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yeah, we could paint it like pink and white and
- 27:12Speaker 2: just go all out here.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 1: None, we can like, oh, we can put our microphones
- 27:18Speaker 1: hook it up to the mouth of Hello Kitty. So
- 27:20Speaker 1: when we talked, the mouth move at the front of
- 27:22Speaker 1: the tiny home.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Okay, side note, though, this Hello Kitty for me as
- 27:26Speaker 2: a kid would probably be Eminem's. Remember how I had
- 27:29Speaker 2: literally every eminem to censor possible and I thought Eminem's
- 27:32Speaker 2: was like the sweetest thing. I was an Eminem for Halloween.
- 27:35Speaker 1: What about beanie babies though?
- 27:37Speaker 2: I was also obsessed with that? Oh yeah, I had
- 27:40Speaker 2: a lot of obsessions actually as a small or early
- 27:43Speaker 2: child or no like early teens.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Tweens, as a as a toddler to adult to now, yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 1: because you still have a bin full of beanie babies
- 27:54Speaker 1: in storage.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Well, it's just because like that was my life saving
- 27:57Speaker 2: so it.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Might be worth millions one day. Okay, let's get back
- 28:01Speaker 1: to this. We're distracted here. Okay, So everything that occurred
- 28:06Speaker 1: over the next month isn't exactly known. I just want
- 28:10Speaker 1: to highlight the word exactly. We do know things that happened,
- 28:14Speaker 1: but we don't know everything that happened. Okay, okay, And
- 28:19Speaker 1: that's going to come to play a little later on.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Some of the things we can assume happen though that
- 28:25Speaker 1: Chant had many people come by to pay for time
- 28:29Speaker 1: with her. Again, it was never said specifically, but we
- 28:36Speaker 1: can assume that happened again to potentially pay off that debt.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that was just like original plan. So yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 2: that makes sense.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And eventually it moved on to being beat and tortured daily,
- 28:51Speaker 1: and beatings and tortures began. Now they can't necessarily pimper
- 28:56Speaker 1: out because bruises, beatings, swelling, right, So it just turned
- 29:02Speaker 1: straight into the torture.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I hate that.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Okay, So the individuals, this is where we start getting
- 29:09Speaker 1: into it. To anyone who's a little squeamish out there,
- 29:13Speaker 1: So the individuals already done it. But okay, oh you
- 29:17Speaker 1: thought we already went over.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Yeah I thought that was it.
- 29:20Speaker 1: But oh no, no, no, no, we're we're really diving in
- 29:23Speaker 1: deep here. So while she was being held captive, what
- 29:27Speaker 1: would happen to her by these individuals. They would regularly
- 29:30Speaker 1: be high on meth, first of all, and they would
- 29:34Speaker 1: beat her, and I mean beat her. She was beaten
- 29:38Speaker 1: with metal bars, shit kicked repeatedly and I mean repeatedly,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and stomped repeatedly. Okay, yeah, Melted plastic would be dripped
- 29:50Speaker 1: and poured over her body as she was tied and bound.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah you're good, Yeah, I'm here.
- 29:59Speaker 1: The she wanted to make fans suffer most of all,
- 30:04Speaker 1: but they also wanted her to not be able to
- 30:06Speaker 1: run away. Oh jeez, uh oh, you're good. Yeah here,
- 30:14Speaker 1: so they would frequently use her as a literal punching bag,
- 30:18Speaker 1: much like Junko was.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 1: They would stuff things into her open wounds and cuts
- 30:25Speaker 1: to cause her more pain and infections. Lighters would be
- 30:31Speaker 1: held up to the bare soles of her feet to
- 30:34Speaker 1: burn so she couldn't stand or walk. She would be
- 30:38Speaker 1: having her feet burned as she screamed, and she was
- 30:42Speaker 1: She would try to pull away but couldn't because of
- 30:44Speaker 1: her restraints. Cords and cables were used to keep her
- 30:51Speaker 1: bound and in many cases used to beat and strangle
- 30:54Speaker 1: her as well. The young fourteen year old girl who
- 30:59Speaker 1: went to the police, she even recalls a time when
- 31:04Speaker 1: she was ordered to defecate in a box so they
- 31:08Speaker 1: could force feed it.
- 31:09Speaker 2: To find Oh my gosh, okay, I shut up for
- 31:14Speaker 2: a minute there, but this is just too much, this
- 31:18Speaker 2: is just.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So, that's all we Wow, she went through.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Wow, that's fucked, that's fucked. That's mega mega, megafucked.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So over the course of a month, fanandered all this
- 31:32Speaker 1: punish to the point where she was eventually either killed
- 31:37Speaker 1: by one of the incidents, or it succumbed to the
- 31:39Speaker 1: wounds she had received over the course of the imprisonment.
- 31:43Speaker 2: And sorry, do we know it wasn't like a month
- 31:45Speaker 2: or we don't know.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It was over the course of a month.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Okay, not that that's like not that's still a freaking
- 31:52Speaker 2: long ass time.
- 31:53Speaker 1: But that's still a long time.
- 31:55Speaker 2: It was longer. Holy shit, Right, I need to take
- 31:59Speaker 2: a either.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Are you good?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm great, you're great. Yeah, you sure, Yeah, I'm great.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Taking a swig of that drink. I'm almost out, it's
- 32:07Speaker 1: almost gone. Wow, that's impressive.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Well, yeah, Rerick, I told you.
- 32:12Speaker 1: I had to take a swig of mine.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a lot.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Okay. So when she did die, though, Chen and his
- 32:21Speaker 1: friends didn't really seem to care, there was no remorse.
- 32:25Speaker 1: It was as if a simple object in the apartment
- 32:27Speaker 1: was broken and it was time to get rid of
- 32:29Speaker 1: it and move on. So they began the process of
- 32:34Speaker 1: disposing her body.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Okay, I just have to say, like, literally stealing is bad,
- 32:39Speaker 2: but like just stealing, and like she apologized and gave
- 32:43Speaker 2: it back and was like just making a mistake, and
- 32:46Speaker 2: she had like an excuse because she was addicted to drugs,
- 32:49Speaker 2: and like, did this really deserve this? No, it did
- 32:53Speaker 2: not deserve this, Like like that's nuts.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, these guys are fucked. They are one hundred percent gum.
- 33:00Speaker 2: They deserve to burn totally.
- 33:04Speaker 1: So when they began disposing her body, they first brought
- 33:08Speaker 1: her to the bathtub and they cut her arteries and
- 33:11Speaker 1: started bleeding her out in the bathtub.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Okay, I thought I was gonna go break in bad
- 33:14Speaker 2: stop but okay, no, well.
- 33:18Speaker 1: We're almost there.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Once she was drained, they began to hack at her
- 33:23Speaker 1: body with a saw and dismember her into pieces. Reportedly,
- 33:28Speaker 1: the process took approximately ten hours to complete. Oh frank
- 33:33Speaker 1: as they cut away at fan with a saw. Ten hours.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I don't feel like it should have taken ten hours.
- 33:40Speaker 1: I mean it shouldn't have.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Like either they don't know what they're doing, like even remotely,
- 33:46Speaker 2: or like they were just really really enjoying the process.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think they just did not know what they were doing.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but still, like someone who's really stupid could probably
- 33:55Speaker 2: do it quicker than.
- 33:55Speaker 1: That, probably because like this is a really morbid conversation.
- 33:59Speaker 2: First, okay, but I'm just like it should dig that long.
- 34:03Speaker 1: The reason why I'm saying I'm talking in this context
- 34:05Speaker 1: is again because I'm a hunter. I've butchered animals, right,
- 34:09Speaker 1: My dad and I have butchered an entire moose in
- 34:13Speaker 1: less time. And I'm talking like that's nice cuts, making.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Things like how much is a moose? Way?
- 34:19Speaker 1: You know a moose is a thousand pounds?
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm thinking, from someone who has absolutely zero
- 34:25Speaker 2: experience with any of this kind of shit, that I
- 34:27Speaker 2: don't think it should take ten hours. Shouldn't, but I mean,
- 34:30Speaker 2: do it quicker.
- 34:31Speaker 1: They're probably high on meth.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and taking breaks having snacks or.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Having snacks, I don't know. You gotta get those goldfish.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Oh wow. Okay. So they would remove her head and
- 34:48Speaker 1: her limbs, and for whatever reason they even began to
- 34:52Speaker 1: disembowel her. They would cut open her stomach and remove
- 34:58Speaker 1: many of her organs and they bag them. Now again,
- 35:02Speaker 1: this is where it kind of goes to the theory
- 35:04Speaker 1: that a lot of meth was involved, because ere they're
- 35:07Speaker 1: drug addicts to begin with and drug dealers, and they're
- 35:10Speaker 1: probably high, not really thinking straight, and they're just doing
- 35:14Speaker 1: random shit, right.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Like bagging organs.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it had no real pattern to what they
- 35:20Speaker 1: were doing in any of the disposal methods, because they
- 35:23Speaker 1: did many methods. They were trying to hide the body,
- 35:26Speaker 1: they're trying to get rid of DNA whatever, but there
- 35:28Speaker 1: was no consistency, which I might I just have.
- 35:31Speaker 2: To say really quickly, it's kind of maybe it shows
- 35:33Speaker 2: that they haven't done this before, which I guess is
- 35:35Speaker 2: kind of nice.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah. So most of her body was disposed of in
- 35:39Speaker 1: trash bins and waste stations where unfortunately it would never
- 35:44Speaker 1: be found again. Oh shocks, where some of her organs
- 35:49Speaker 1: that had been bagged were simply thrown out the window
- 35:51Speaker 1: to land on an awning below. Some of her organs
- 35:55Speaker 1: were stored in the fridge, along with one of her teeth. Okay, now,
- 36:02Speaker 1: fans head is where it really gets weird. They of
- 36:06Speaker 1: course decapitated her, we know that. But then they would
- 36:10Speaker 1: then place her head inside a pot and boiled it
- 36:13Speaker 1: and cooked it inside a gas stove. What yep? Okay,
- 36:22Speaker 1: why I think they're trying to destroy any DNA?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Okay, right, so you've already said this numerous times.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I'm just like, but still, that is.
- 36:33Speaker 2: That's a visual one I have.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 2: There, So then.
- 36:36Speaker 1: After that was done, they took They took her cooked
- 36:39Speaker 1: skull coated in her boiled flesh, and stuffed it inside
- 36:43Speaker 1: the head of a large Hello Kitty Mermaid plush doll
- 36:48Speaker 1: and sewed it shut.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Who yeah, my dinner, dinner.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Is coming up, and so we're gonna make sure we
- 36:59Speaker 1: post a phot photo of that plush doll on Instagram.
- 37:02Speaker 2: That's nasty. And is that like what was stinking?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Yes, oh, you called the head a little bit, but yes,
- 37:09Speaker 1: that's what's.
- 37:10Speaker 2: That's what's so they didn't even like boil it enough
- 37:12Speaker 2: to like have it not stink. Well, I mean you
- 37:16Speaker 2: maybe that could boil.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You could boil a roast. Just think boil a roast
- 37:19Speaker 1: till it's like thoroughly cooked, well cooked, and then you
- 37:23Speaker 1: leave it on the counter, it's going to start stinking.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Cooked meat will start stinking too.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but I was almost thinking that they'd boil it
- 37:28Speaker 2: so much that there was like it was just skull, no,
- 37:32Speaker 2: because like obviously it's gonna stink then.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Yeah. So there in this Hello Kitty Mermaid plush doll.
- 37:41Speaker 1: She sat for the next month until the fourteen year
- 37:45Speaker 1: old girlfriend of Chen led the police to the apartment
- 37:49Speaker 1: at the door of number thirty one. The smell of
- 37:53Speaker 1: rot was extremely present and obvious, just kind of like
- 37:57Speaker 1: we were talking about. In fact, the other tenants of
- 38:00Speaker 1: the building had reported the smell coming from the apartment
- 38:03Speaker 1: over the past month since Fan's death, but officials just
- 38:07Speaker 1: kind of brushed it off as garbage that had been
- 38:09Speaker 1: piling up in or around the apartment building. It wasn't
- 38:13Speaker 1: a very nice part of town. It was kind of
- 38:15Speaker 1: like a lower lower class sort of thing, and not
- 38:18Speaker 1: so good cleanliness in the area, right, Okay, so it
- 38:22Speaker 1: was kind of brushed off at the time, But when
- 38:25Speaker 1: police had followed the girls to the apartment, they had
- 38:28Speaker 1: opened the door and the stench hit them like a
- 38:30Speaker 1: ton of bricks. But inside there wasn't a whole lot
- 38:33Speaker 1: to find. The Hello Kitty furniture, posters and other belongings
- 38:37Speaker 1: had mostly been moved out, and there was no one
- 38:39Speaker 1: in sight. The tenants had left one thing they did
- 38:44Speaker 1: leave behind, though there was a few scattered possessions and
- 38:47Speaker 1: things that they left behind, But the one thing they
- 38:49Speaker 1: did leave behind was a large Hello Kitty mermaid plush toy.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, just to clarify, was most the Hello Kitty
- 38:57Speaker 2: stuff out of the house that Yes, okay. I was
- 39:00Speaker 2: envisioning them, the police, being like, whoa, Hello Kitty World. Okay, No,
- 39:05Speaker 2: it was all it was all gone, okay. I see.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Just you sounded really excited, like as if it was
- 39:13Speaker 1: your first first person perspective of being a police officer,
- 39:17Speaker 1: like walking in be like, oh my god, so much
- 39:19Speaker 1: Hello Kitty, woa, Hello Kitty world. Like you sounded excited.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I don't know, being like a police officer, and like
- 39:26Speaker 2: some of the shit you see is probably intense, and
- 39:29Speaker 2: that would just be intense, like going into this Hello
- 39:31Speaker 2: Kitty World and this foul smell and.
- 39:34Speaker 1: It's definitely expect I mean, imagine going to this really
- 39:38Speaker 1: run down apartment building and you are told by this
- 39:41Speaker 1: girl someone was just murdered in here, and you're just
- 39:44Speaker 1: present at this door with just rot smell, and you
- 39:47Speaker 1: open the door and it's just brightly colored Hello Kitty everywhere,
- 39:51Speaker 1: like what the fuck?
- 39:51Speaker 2: Like it would be a visual Like I just feel
- 39:53Speaker 2: like it just wouldn't be like a normal day in
- 39:55Speaker 2: the office.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I don't think my response would be nope, and I'm going, oh, I.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Actually don't feel good. I have to go home.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Fuck this shiitamn mount.
- 40:08Speaker 2: This mount. Actually, that would be one that I think
- 40:11Speaker 2: would be fascinating. You just like plug your nose and
- 40:13Speaker 2: put a mask on and dive in. Man.
- 40:17Speaker 1: No thanks, Okay, nope, I'm good. I can't stand the
- 40:23Speaker 1: smell of rotten meat because that, like butchering animals for
- 40:27Speaker 1: as a hunter before, like some cuts go bad sometimes
- 40:30Speaker 1: if you leave the meat out too long, okay, and
- 40:33Speaker 1: like that rank smell. Like I that's one like one
- 40:36Speaker 1: of the only things in this world that has only
- 40:38Speaker 1: ever made me throw up, well close to throwing.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Up, I should say, I don't even know if I've
- 40:42Speaker 2: ever really.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Smelt that rancid meat is It's disgusting. Mm hmm. Okay,
- 40:52Speaker 1: where am I now? Right? The Hello Kitty doll that
- 40:55Speaker 1: was left behind, right, so, the toy that was of
- 40:58Speaker 1: course once nice white off fabric and nice little plush
- 41:02Speaker 1: toy was now blotched with some sort of thick, reddish,
- 41:06Speaker 1: gross mucus. Oh gosh, the doll looked like death, smelt
- 41:10Speaker 1: like it nice. So police of course opened it up,
- 41:14Speaker 1: and inside they found fans head covered in a swarm
- 41:18Speaker 1: of maggots. Ohly frig so among the head they found
- 41:23Speaker 1: what was left behind in the fridge, which was a
- 41:26Speaker 1: few organs and a tooth, and the bloodied, soaked bathtub.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Wow, so they really didn't clean up at all, Like
- 41:35Speaker 2: it's kind of what did they think?
- 41:36Speaker 1: Like, I just they just abandoned the crime scene. Yeah,
- 41:40Speaker 1: so pretty So to sum that up, all that they
- 41:43Speaker 1: found a fan was her boiled head, a few organs,
- 41:48Speaker 1: and a tooth. Okay, everything else was disposed of.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I just feel like it's so random that you dispose
- 41:54Speaker 2: of some things but not all But okay.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Right, especially considering like they boiled the head to try
- 42:00Speaker 1: and get rid of DNA, like why bother? But then
- 42:02Speaker 1: the bathtub is coated in blood.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Like it just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't
- 42:06Speaker 2: like obviously they're not very.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Smart or like the theory goes, they're just high on
- 42:11Speaker 1: whatever meth. Most likely they're drug addicts. We know that,
- 42:14Speaker 1: we know they're using. Most likely they're using while doing this,
- 42:18Speaker 1: I guess.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 1: So in exchange for protection, the fourteen year old girl
- 42:24Speaker 1: who led the police there testified in court against Chan.
- 42:29Speaker 1: She stated that she witnessed him and one of the
- 42:33Speaker 1: other friends, but I didn't have his first name. I
- 42:36Speaker 1: need to get consistent with first names. And last names.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I'm bad with that. The last name was man Yee.
- 42:44Speaker 1: She witnessed them kick Fan in the head at least
- 42:50Speaker 1: fifty times at one point, and she in fact even
- 42:54Speaker 1: joined in.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Herself, Oh gosh, okay, because I was going to be like,
- 42:57Speaker 2: it's kind of a badass of the day. But no,
- 43:00Speaker 2: not at all, No, not at all.
- 43:02Speaker 1: No, No, we haven't done a bad ass of the
- 43:04Speaker 1: day for a while. I was thinking about that the
- 43:05Speaker 1: other day, have we not. No, it's been like probably
- 43:08Speaker 1: a good like eight episodes.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I would say, the next case, we got to make
- 43:11Speaker 2: sure it's a badass.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Maybe maybe.
- 43:17Speaker 2: So.
- 43:17Speaker 1: She was actually asked in court why she thought the
- 43:20Speaker 1: torture continued for so long, and she stated, and I quote,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I had a feeling it was for fun. Oh nice, Yeah,
- 43:30Speaker 1: these guys are fucking That.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Is like the weirdest fucked up fun ever.
- 43:35Speaker 1: That's not even fun.
- 43:36Speaker 2: No, that's like fun. It's like going bowling or something,
- 43:41Speaker 2: or like getting an ice cream can.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Oh that does sound fun.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Bowling and ice cream cone? Oh nice?
- 43:46Speaker 1: Can we go bowling and get ice cream? Yeah?
- 43:49Speaker 2: Actually, we haven't had fun for a while.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Well, this is fun, Yeah, this is fun. Getting to
- 43:54Speaker 1: look forward to this every week. This is this is.
- 43:56Speaker 2: This is fun, but I mean like gone on like
- 43:58Speaker 2: a fun, like the fair was just here for two
- 44:00Speaker 2: weeks and way anyone go?
- 44:01Speaker 1: Yeah too busy? Okay. So without the young girl whose
- 44:07Speaker 1: name has been protected by court due to her age,
- 44:10Speaker 1: these three men would have most likely gotten away with
- 44:13Speaker 1: this entire situation. It would have been left to rot.
- 44:16Speaker 1: They wouldn't have known whose apartment or who was recently
- 44:19Speaker 1: there whatever. Right, So, even though they were caught, there
- 44:23Speaker 1: was still the issue of proving how Fan died, and
- 44:27Speaker 1: without a body, they couldn't say exactly how it happened. Okay,
- 44:34Speaker 1: So of course all three men in court denied killing Fan.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Of course, of course they were I quickly skipped ahead
- 44:42Speaker 1: with this. They were caught relatively fast. It's kind of
- 44:47Speaker 1: not important. Police are, like, we're looking for these guys.
- 44:50Speaker 1: They found them really quick.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I do appreciate the fourteen year old at least coming forward.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Yes, I do so, so good for her on that
- 44:58Speaker 1: doing the right thing.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Little late, but yeah, yeah, little late.
- 45:03Speaker 1: So during the six week trial of these three men,
- 45:06Speaker 1: they did admit to preventing Fan from receiving a lawful burial,
- 45:12Speaker 1: which is a criminal charge in Hong Kong.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Oh okay.
- 45:16Speaker 1: They told the court that they had simply they were
- 45:19Speaker 1: simply running a brothel with Fan as a mutual agreement, okay.
- 45:25Speaker 1: And they said that she was a drug addict and
- 45:27Speaker 1: that she died because of a drug overdose. They also
- 45:31Speaker 1: said that they disposed of her body the way that
- 45:33Speaker 1: they did in fear of what would happen if police
- 45:35Speaker 1: found out. Now Chan and why Lung both pled guilty
- 45:42Speaker 1: to false imprisonment, while shin Cho denied, and throughout their trial,
- 45:48Speaker 1: the three men began to turn on each other and
- 45:52Speaker 1: pointing with finger at one another on the torture of
- 45:54Speaker 1: Fan while minimizing their own role in that.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Very interesting. That's kind of like the psychology of that
- 46:01Speaker 2: is just so interesting to me.
- 46:03Speaker 1: They just read it like I didn't really do anything.
- 46:06Speaker 1: It was them, And then they said the exact same
- 46:08Speaker 1: thing about the other two like it's ridiculous.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so interesting.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Yeah, So without a definitive cause of death, the jury
- 46:18Speaker 1: refused to find them guilty of murder.
- 46:21Speaker 2: What you're kidding? Nope, is this going to make me angry?
- 46:27Speaker 2: Am I going to be angry? Because I finished my boos?
- 46:31Speaker 1: You finished your booze. There's there's justice, but there's a
- 46:35Speaker 1: potential for them to be able little early.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Instead, the trio was convicted of manslaughter in December of
- 46:45Speaker 1: two thousand, and they were sentenced to the maximum. The
- 46:49Speaker 1: judge gave them maximum sentence because they were showing no
- 46:52Speaker 1: remorse in in prison the way they handled her body
- 46:55Speaker 1: after her death. So they were sentenced to the maximum
- 47:00Speaker 1: of life in prison, life in prison with the possibility
- 47:04Speaker 1: of parole after just twenty years.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Okay, that's actually pretty high sentence for manslaughter.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I thought it is. But also remember it's a criminal
- 47:14Speaker 1: offense to not bury the body prevent that burial, right right, So,
- 47:21Speaker 1: as of recording this episode, all three men who are
- 47:24Speaker 1: responsible for the torture and murder of twenty three year
- 47:26Speaker 1: old Fan Man Yee are still behind bars.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Oh okay. I literally was like glaring at you. Do
- 47:34Speaker 2: not say that they're out. Do not say that they're out.
- 47:36Speaker 1: However, just keep in mind they were sentenced in two
- 47:41Speaker 1: thousand with the possibility of parole after twenty years, so
- 47:48Speaker 1: they could be applying for their parole right now.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Huh.
- 47:54Speaker 1: They most likely are.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Probably Yeah, it's actually like I mean it's twenty twenty one,
- 47:58Speaker 2: where an't they out? Then hopefully there are little assholes
- 48:02Speaker 2: and in jail, yeah, and don't get to like get
- 48:07Speaker 2: out earlier, getler, have to stay like a full set.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I really hope all three of them get life in prison,
- 48:12Speaker 1: they don't make parole.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Legitimately get life.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Legitimately get life.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, because it's absolutely disgusting. But then the fact
- 48:23Speaker 2: like that I find even more disgusting is just like
- 48:26Speaker 2: a that it was like for fun and having no remorse.
- 48:29Speaker 1: No remorse at all.
- 48:32Speaker 2: They didn't care, Like how can you do that to
- 48:34Speaker 2: someone and not feel bad? Like if I did that
- 48:36Speaker 2: to an aunt, I would feel bad.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Not okay, not even someone do that and not even care.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Three individuals do that and not even care. Yeah, but
- 48:46Speaker 1: then I mean you look at Junco where she had
- 48:49Speaker 1: how many peoples?
- 48:52Speaker 2: So well? Yeah, and there would have been if if
- 48:56Speaker 2: at the beginning, if they did kind of treat her
- 48:58Speaker 2: like it was like a brothel or whatever, there could
- 49:00Speaker 2: have been men, but then a lot more men. But
- 49:02Speaker 2: then maybe they wouldn't have thought it was anything bad either,
- 49:05Speaker 2: because she wasn't beaten and stuff.
- 49:07Speaker 1: See, now I do want to point out that most
- 49:11Speaker 1: coverage of this story that I found, most people don't
- 49:13Speaker 1: talk about her going into being pimped out at the
- 49:18Speaker 1: beginning of her imprisonment. They just go straight into the torture.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Any articles I've read, documentaries, they don't really talk about
- 49:24Speaker 1: the potential of her being pimped out at the time,
- 49:27Speaker 1: though that was the plan. They always talk about that.
- 49:31Speaker 1: But in the court case, Chan does say that they
- 49:35Speaker 1: were running a brothel. He had intentions of doing that
- 49:38Speaker 1: to her. So for all we know, they could have
- 49:42Speaker 1: either A started pimping her out and then began beating
- 49:46Speaker 1: her after however long, or B just started beating her
- 49:50Speaker 1: right off the bat. Everyone always jumps to they just
- 49:53Speaker 1: started beating her right off the bat.
- 49:54Speaker 2: They don't know for sure.
- 49:55Speaker 1: We don't know for sure. You got to consider that
- 49:57Speaker 1: she could have been raped several times before the beatings.
- 50:02Speaker 2: And I wonder what's what clicked If it was just
- 50:06Speaker 2: like he was just going to pimp her out or whatever,
- 50:10Speaker 2: what click to make it like them start beating.
- 50:13Speaker 1: I'm sure it was. It was well, either one or
- 50:16Speaker 1: the other, or a combination of just pure rage and
- 50:19Speaker 1: anger at her or drugs.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Yeah, gross, so gross.
- 50:25Speaker 1: That's a story of fan Manye, she went through a
- 50:28Speaker 1: lot and I hope these guys stay in prison for life.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Yeah, well well done. It was definitely entertaining, I'll give
- 50:35Speaker 2: it that.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but brutal.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Poor fan and thank you all for listening.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Make sure you guys stay wicked.
