A 94-year-old Korean War veteran, Bob Verdoia, is relocating to Florida but wants people to honor the memorial he built decades ago for fallen Marine Bobby A. Donato. In 1972, Verdoia, then owner of a monument company, took on the task for just $200 — far below cost — because he felt a deep connection as a fellow veteran. The memorial, now faded and overgrown, was restored by his family before his move, including his son, daughters, and grandchildren — all former or current Marines — who cleaned and beautified the site.
