- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: How's it, Bill's mafia president of built in Buffalo, Lance Nelson here to my left, Mr. Akim Richins, a rich co-founder of built in Buffalo to my right Benjamin Schupe.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: Day two, Bill's training camp at St.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: John Fisher was a hot one boy.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_02]: I survived it.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: We got some interviews with a couple of fans out there had a guy from South Carolina coming up to St.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: John Fisher for camp.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: the fans and what happens here just to watch a team practice substitute.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing much nothing much, uh, it's another another week closer to real NFL football with the live play.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, like I said, they were just a week away from
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: seeing a preseason game so it's always fun and just once you see the boys on the field it's always it's always a good good day and you know it's just you know you start getting that H now really want and we want to be becoming up so but always good at least seeing my practice field without training camp.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: Hey Rich what's good man how are you feeling about first two days of camp and just in general getting excited for some bills football here.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just excited that football is back.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just excited that, you know, we get to watch our team come back even though, you know, it's helmets and shorts right now, but just to get that adrenaline flowing to see our guys back on the field, the seat of rookie's on the field, the sea James Cook on the field is, is, is, is a, a leading to sea, and I'm just excited to get back to football.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Some guys that are going to be looking to get back to football.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: We got a couple injuries here for the bills.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: Dawson Knox with a hammy's been out the first two days, Spencer Brown with his back acting up, Cedric fan praying, Granger, the calf, Livestream, lower leg strain, all of missed the first two days of camp with those injuries.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't really know
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: much about them until yesterday when McDermott spoke before practice.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: And then during practice today, Epinesca had a right ankle slash foot injury unknown the severity or the actual injury itself.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: And during Williams with a right calf injury, they both left practice.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: What do you guys think about these injuries for me?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to say, I love how it's kind of given other guys a little bit of a chance with FNS out.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now, guys like Michael Hoyt saw some reps, Javans Solomon, which I know Ben can speak to in a little bit, getting some reps there because of FNS's absence, maybe where he wouldn't know before.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: So on the injury front, just give quick thought on any any one or all of those guys, Kim, you could start with us.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you don't want to see guys go down.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to see guys get injured, especially guys.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's supposed to play pivotal roles for your football team that right during Williams.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: You have Dawson Knox.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: You have AJF and Nessa, who's been an impact rotational player for the Buffalo Bills this couple of years.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to see injuries happen, but when injuries do happen, you get to see guys step up.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: and and and claim a role that we probably didn't see them claiming before and I think this this is allowing our opportunity for guys like uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like you said, you know, you obviously don't want to want to see injuries, but especially this early in camp, it's not the end of the world.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: And better to happen now than in six weeks, right?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you get to see guys get out there on the field.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe even, you know, like, guy with haws gets some early connection with Alan that he might not have gotten if knocks is there.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Solomon was another guy like you mentioned, like you mentioned glance with
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: you know, being a guy that could get some reps in the guy that I'm excited to see this year hopefully that that he can you can make an impact on this team.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I'm just excited to overall to see these younger guys get opportunity as well.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, like it's like a team said, you don't want to see the injuries, but it's not the end of the world at this point when it comes to this early in training camp.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully none of them are serious I talked for the show how calf injuries always do make me a little nervous which we obviously had two of them on here with calf injuries sometimes those can linger so hopefully since it is happening early they can get them the rest rest that up we get healed but uh either way it's uh you know you get yeah like you get guys that get opportunities and see what they can do with them and uh before you know I hope maybe they'll be able to to make them impact with the pads on
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we have to see, you know, Chanel being out kind of throws a wrench in what we kind of wanted to see as far as what the special teams units might look like and see if Chanel might take over that role where the bills might be able to use him being a wide receiver as well.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: over a quadrant in being a defensive back, but not really playing high level defense.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: So really just a return man in that sense.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: So that whole roster construction discussion still comes to be for me.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I still I wanted to watch a bit of that today.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: I did get some pictures of the special team achievements, but I didn't get a good
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: hold on everyone.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: We know, and we'll talk about special teams in just a little bit.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: With Knox and Spencer Brown not to concern being veterans, they're going to come out.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: They already know what's going on.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe an official for them to get a little bit of rest here to start camp.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: But guys like, you know, like I said, Chanel, and then band-frame Granger where, you know, Cedric band-frame Granger has an opportunity here.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: If the bills aren't able,
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: to get a contract done with quantum recovery is a guy they made look to take on a bigger role and maybe you can get a starter next year.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: So are they missing some time on a valuation of that sort of thing missing time with this injury?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's also a calf and you mentioned how those can linger.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: I did see the other center that they just brought in and the name just flew out of my head.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, excuse me, but he is a wide dude, number fifty three.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Let me get his name coming up right here.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: Kendrick Reen, I believe, is the guy and just a big dude.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: So they do have some depth.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: The offense of wine isn't hurting by any means, but yeah, tough to speak young guys especially or new guys even missing time for that evaluation.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: moving on from the injuries, the biggest, one of the biggest discussions through all of the press conferences and things is how this chemistry, building chemistry at campus is so vital.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I just want to get your guys thoughts quick on the chemistry of the team.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: We did see AJ FNS a throw a punch at the tight end, Jackson Haas today.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: So the little little tension in there, but Rick Durman says in his press conference to make the main thing, the main thing.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: They get to sit there and focus
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: at camp about on the Buffalo bills that football team and the purpose of being away at camp was noted by Brandon Bean and his presser.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: This is what good organizations look like said Josh Allen.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: There's a consistent message from the top down Joey Bosa mentioned and then Joe Brady said it's not my offense.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's their offense mentioning everyone being cohesive unit and continuous communication happening throughout this training camp session.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: to really build what this offense is really going to look like.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: So overall, guys, the chemistry building via training camp away at St.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: John Fisher just give a little thought on what that means to you, I guess, and what you think the important is, or how important it is for this pool team, too.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was talking about it with somebody the other day about how, but even at least, eight teams, six teams in the league, six to eight teams in the league that still go away somewhere for training camp.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about a little bit in the past about how, you know, yeah, these things, you know, when it comes to somebody throwing a punch that can happen anywhere, even if you're at your own stadium, which for training camp or your way.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just good to get these guys familiar with each other.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: I know you've been talked about, I heard Joey Bosa talking about, you know, getting familiar with everybody and the workies as well.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's huge when it comes to rookies, especially because you're then with your teammates, the entire training camp, your
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: nonstop.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, even when you're off the football field, but you're still with the football team and you're still with the guys learning and nonstop being able to build that chemistry that can be crucial, especially early in the year.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: You see some teams start out slow.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think that being away at camp with everybody can kind of help, you know, get everybody on the same page.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I love
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: that they still go there.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's massive for this team to be able to still do this and be able to kind of be all together and not force to but kind of you know just it's it's you're not going to be going out after practice you're not just going home relaxing and with your family you're with your second family which is your team here in the bill so I love it.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's huge and like so the rookie is especially I think it's massive for a lot of these rookie's being able to come in and
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: right away, kind of get that continuity with everybody, and then potentially learn faster than maybe other rookies for teams that are not going away for practice.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, shoot absolutely.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: And when we talk about, you know, the importance of training camp, we're talking about guys that, you know, basically had some time off, some time off to be with their family, some time off to be with their loved ones.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: So it's good to get back as a cohesive unit and get in unison.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what training camps for.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: What is training camp for is for timing and rhythm, right?
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: It allows the quarterback and the wide receivers
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: to get their time and down, knowing where to, why receive a light to make their breaks, knowing how fast their cuts are, and knowing where the quarterback has to place that ball, where the ball has to be, right?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Another importance about the importance of training camp is offensive line coordination.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: learning how to move as a cohesive unit, building that chemistry so they don't blow assignments, right?
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: We do have seventeen of franchise player, the MVP of the NFL.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: So when you have that chemistry, you don't blow assignments, they're going to protect your quarterback.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Communication and trust, safety and cornerbacks need to build their trust and their coverage assignments.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Linebackers have to communicate in pre-snap reads and making adjustments.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: And role clarity and accountability.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think training camp is we get to see who is who and how pivotal of a role they play for their offense or for their defense players get to learn their responsibilities and tendencies and not only that.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: they know the responsibilities and tendencies of their teammates.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: So they can make up for each other if things break down.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: So chemistry as a whole, develop leaders and followers.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Guys know when to speak and guys know when to listen and how to respond to adversity.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, the communication across the back end of the defense is really crucial for this team as they kind of find their new voice after the void that
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: Michael Hyde and Jordan Poir leave in that segment.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: So they have to
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: Bernard talked about this.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: They have to really work at that.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: They have to find, you know, Bernard has to become that new voice.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: That back into the defense between Bishop, rap, being the soon starters.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: They have to get their communication straight now.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have Max Hairsten and Tray White both taking some reps with the ones.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: and figure into that equation as well.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: All in for all intents and purposes, I believe Tron Johnson will get most of the snaps with the ones, but today he had a little bit of a later day and you had Cam Lewis in there off the bench to be the first one in at the slot corner.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that guys coming in and out throughout this camp only sharpen that sort of thing where they're
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: everyone has to communicate no matter where their get chart position might be and it's one of those things that unless you do it it's not going to develop so they can really work on developing that on and off the field being together so much I think that's
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: a great point.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have much more to add from that.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: You guys hit it on the head and I kind of said a little bit before the thing is before the segment is just that it's making the main thing the main thing.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: But let's talk a little bit about.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to say that that AJ happiness is hit on Jackson Haas today.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think that was it was such a weird play because Dawson or I, the on Dawkins fell down.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I don't know that Eponessa or Haw's really knew that Dawkins was on the ground that much.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, Eponessa just happened to all happen bang bang and Eponessa just happened to fall over Dawkins.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: And now I'm wondering after the injury comes out, if that's played happen on or if I happen later, I don't know for sure.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: But that might be why Eponessa got so upset.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: I thought I saw Eponessa come back after that play.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: But they were definitely heated.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: Guys went over to Eponessa
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: After the fact can kid was talking to him and everyone was kind of rallying around.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: So that whole communication that chemistry not only of, you know, position groups talking to one another, but just him.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: You saw Josh Allen spending time on the sideline with the defensive guys talking to Rousseau.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: talking to Bernard and Milano for a period of time.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: So he's Josh Allen kind of spent a lot of time in the different groups.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: That seems like this is all building off the field as well to make him more comfortable when they're on the field and spending that time communicating with those guys.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it seems like this is going to roll into our next segment about Josh Allen in year eight.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: It seems like Josh Allen has evolved
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: his role as a complete team commander chief leader.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like he is out there directing, he's directing receivers on how to get off of defenders.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: He was teaching key on Coleman after practice, you know, chucking a guy.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: He was talking to Russo and some other guys about some defensive lineman moves, things of that nature.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's really impressive the command that Josh Hale and it has on this team.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't notice it to the level I saw today in previous years.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want to make mention of that because Alan has always been, you know, I'm going to let my play on the field do the talking and he hasn't necessarily been that vocal leader all of his career.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: But now it seems like that's completely changed.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: And after this MVP award, he is
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: completely, like I said, just the commander and chief, the general of this team.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: And Bobby Bet, I'm sorry, Joe Brady is listening to Josh Allen with such intent, his body language when Allen is speaking to him is so intentional.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: So to be a good listener, I just think that it was really great to see.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I just want to get your guys thought on
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: You know, maybe Josh Allen your thoughts on him becoming a more involved leader and his leadership evolving for this team.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead, Eddie.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and right quick, right?
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because you touched on AJ Up and that's a little bit, you know, when you sign guys like Michael Hoyt and Larry Oganjoby and that you draft guys like TJ Sanders and landing Jackson and Dion Walker, that's a lot of the fence of Lyman.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: Those are a lot of new players in your position group.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and AJ Epinesta is a pretty smart individual.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: He has to play with that ship on the shoulder because he's one of those guys rotational players that has something to prove year in and year out and especially this year.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about all the new defensive linemen that we have.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: You never know
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: what final decisions your coach may make.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, it's frustrating for him because he want to be as healthy as he can be.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: So he can be explosive and continue to disrupt and do his part and hopefully make the Buffalo Bill's roster.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I and Sharpen's eye is once again, and we hope AJ at Penessa is healthy, but I can definitely see some frustration, especially during your training camp wars.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: Now, shifting over to Josh Allen, he won his MVP.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: And me and Dave spoke last week about how what else can Josh Allen do to get better, right?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: He evolved so much since coming to the NFL.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: We all wonder, has he plateaued?
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Has he finally reached his ceiling?
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: And we're seeing early on thus far in training camp that no, he still has more potential to reach early on as about his accuracy and understanding how to read defenses.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then it became about
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: His turnovers and getting that down and now that that's down is like what else can he do?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: He can become a more focal point as a leader as a vocal leader not only on the offense, but on the buffalo bills roster.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: There is no more Jordan poyer like you alluded to no more micah high.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's no more Mitch Moore's
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of guys in year eight that he played with in year one year two year three.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that evolution of Josh Allen as being more of a vocal leader is something that we're seeing in year eight and that's going to propel him to take yet another leap in his progression throughout his foot will career thus far and it's so far.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's really exciting to see Josh Allen being that guy and it's even more exciting to see a hate coach listening to his player right and not be stuck and set in his own ways and say hey you're going to run the play like I want you to run the play and you're going to do what I want you to do he's being a listener as well as a commander of the offense and the calling the play so you love to see that karate
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: And that chemistry between offensive coordinator and quarterback and Josh Allen is is yet again proven that he's able to take another leap in progression.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: We're seeing that through his focal point of view.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it seems like every every off season, there's something so that that you notice that he has
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: And we're not just improved around, but taking honestly is like something that he deep down wants like knows he needs to and and as a MVP, you know, like he said, it's like what what else could you really continue to get better?
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: You just want MVP, you're, you know, number one quarterback in the league, you cut down.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: I turn over as you, you've put it all together on the field.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's doing it in the leadership category of, yeah, he's always been a good leader.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's always been a fun guy to be around, but taking those steps to help not just his receivers or not just his running backs, but help everybody, whether it's rookies, veterans, returning, new players, whatever it is, he's not shying away, he's making everybody feel welcome, he's making everybody feel at home.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: making sure it makes feel everybody feel like they deserve to be on this team and deserve a chance to work with him or their coaches or whoever it is.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, and it can be one of those things where you look at as a player and you say, wow, like, am I going to get there?
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Get that elsewhere.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Even these veterans, some of these veterans might say the same thing.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like some quarterbacks do stay kind of keep low profile worry about themselves.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: work on their game.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they'll work with their receivers on certain things with the timing and everything like that.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: But how much do they show that they care about you, your play, your career on off the field, whatever it is.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're seeing Josh really take that over and he's going into your eight and it's one of those things where you hear that and you're like, oh, like, you're eight.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, it's already year eight with him.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that actually just kind of reminded me of how
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a tweet earlier this week and I can't remember who was from about just how many guys are kind of reaching that eight nine seven year in their in their career and it's, you know, you got mental auto going into your nine.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: You have tray white in your nine right you have the endocons in your nine to run Johnson your eight.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Josh is your eight at all or is going in the year seven you know so it's it's yes it's it's might be one of those things where you know you look at your like oh it's your eight we really got a going but it's also you know appreciate these guys and appreciate what we're being able to see in the field and I think that's kind of going into Josh's minds out here of like yeah I'm gonna appreciate every second of this and I'm gonna work with everybody and make his bigger impact on not just the Buffalo Bill's performance on the field
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: But everybody's career everybody that's in this league, whether they're on the team or not, and it's or going to make the team and they're not going to make the team.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's been special to really see him evolve.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: on the field off the field as a leader, as a quarterback.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully this season, then it can get them to that final stage there, that we're definitely more party trophy.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see, but at the end of the day, it's something that we got to appreciate having a quarterback like him and having an MVP that's willing to still know that I ate.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to be Pete, but I can still improve in our other areas.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's great intent with his instructions.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's visibly just, you know, arms are moving.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: He is just really grinding at these guys about really specific items.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: So Palmer was working with him on some comeback routes that were about twelve to fifteen yards deep and just
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: Two different play two different reps in a row.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: The first rep Allen kind of threw it out to his right shoulder and it was an incompletion the second then they they talked about it and they went back and ran it again.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: and Allen threw the ball before Paul and even turned around, Paul and did make the grab as he turned around.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: But Allen's still went out there and he offered more instruction after that wrap as well.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: So he's very emphatic and that's really the thing, you know, I saw even with defense, even with the defenders that he was talking to on the sideline during the practice.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: He was very, in fact, he was, you know, using his hands, using his arms, almost like, like I said with Keyon, he was really shown Keyon, got to shove these guys at your break or, you know, get them off you at the line and different things like that.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then with a defense, he was, you know, talking about different moves of a defensive line.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so Allen's really perfecting his craft in being intentional to get this team to be where they need to be at every position.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: to get this Lamarty trophy in Buffalo.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just, it's, it's very much another level of leadership that, like I said, I hadn't seen from him in past years, being at camp every year that he's been with the team.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: I just haven't seen him ever be so, in fact, you know, using his arms and hands and just speaking to so many different positions on the team, from the defensive line to the linebackers to the receivers.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: you would obviously understand the receiver, he's telling them where they need to be when he's looking to deliver the ball.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And that was his intent with his instructional Palmer, but he also did that with Hamler as well, to practice.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm super stoked.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: That was blown away.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: That was one of the biggest takeaways I had today from the training camp session was that Josh Allen has become an MVP on the field, but his leadership is now grown to an MVP level as well at seams.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: And he's really taking his intent of this football team, his command of this football team, and saying, all right, guys, you know,
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I got you, but you got to have me when I need you, let's go get this work in and do what we need to do to be suitable champions.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I really think there's a great intent from Alan in that respect and it's just really refreshing and nice to see.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: James Cook, you want to comment more on Josh before?
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I apologize.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: And like you said, and you know, everything you said was spot on.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it seems like it was many, many years ago that Brandon Bean had the press conference talking about and trying to convince the fan base and the media that players wanted to come to Buffalo, right?
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: I remember that press conference when Brandon Bean was pleading to the media and he was showing his frustrations about
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: players possibly not wanting to come and he's like people players want to come to Buffalo players want to come here and it seemed like he was trying to convince us and at that time he wasn't necessarily buying it well now you implement Josh Allen in eight years later that the total perception of the Buffalo bills has changed
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: throughout, you know, high school and college athletes, people, players want to come to Buffalo NFL players.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's free agents.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: They want to come to Buffalo college players getting drafted are excited to come and play for the Buffalo bills.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that is because mainly because of our franchise quarterback Josh Allen, he's completely changed the perception of the organization over the course of eight years.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: And James Cook and we're going to get into cook in a minute, but just to that point, James Cook said one of the reasons he wants to be here long term is the QV.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: It was the first thing he said when talking about what makes you want to stay in Buffalo, the QV, and then he said the fans.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, that's really a strong statement from Cook and it just pays homage to how much work Josh Allen has done to put his work first, be that top tier athlete
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: just also one of the guys you know he's not arrogant
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: He's still just one of the guys.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's still, you know, making everyone feel like there is brother and there is friend.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: And that's such a huge component of this culture.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: And again, just to tie it in to the building, chemistry, a camp thing is just, that's why Josh Allen loves doing this camp this way.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's at St.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: John Fisher because nobody else is distracted and there's owned in.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: And he gets unfettered access to each one of his teammates.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's really important to him.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: And it shows that he's putting the work on and off the field now to to build those relationships so that folks do want to stay or come back or join the team.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: So really good point in rich.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: James Cook did show up on day one.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously showed up again today.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: Had one of the plays of the practice session today where he took a little swing pass.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: We complain about some of these act or behind the line of skirmish passes, but he took one of those today.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: And it probably would have been a touchdown.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: There was one defender that I kind of questioned whether or not he would have beat him or not on that play, but.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: There were some blockers in front and Gilliam was very important in breaking him in that.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: So you see in little glimpses of James Cook being inaugurated here.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's good to see that he's here.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like I mentioned, he said the QB and the fans are part of the reason does want to be here.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so he did receive a lot of loud cheers today while he entered the practice field when he made the plays.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I guess just give a quick thought on James Cook showing up and what that maybe means to you and then we're going to talk a little bit about what we think about next season after hearing some comments from both him and Brandon Bean.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: Shoot, go ahead and start with just what Cook cooks approach kind of means to you as far into the team.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say I'm shocked by anything that was said by cook or him showing up or anything like that just because it's kind of what we expected.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Brandon Bean reiterated all all off season.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: He even kind of said it to the past few months of like he's going to be there and he's going to let everything else play out.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: He did say, you know, if he doesn't show up, he gets fined and he doesn't he wants to keep his money, which is again, like that
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: And some people might get upset at that response, but that's at the end of the day.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a valid reason for him to be there.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, some guys are holding out.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: And since an idea, some guys are holding out and they'll get fine.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: But when you have a guy that says, all right, well, you know, the contract, we still have my words going to go for next season, but I still want to show up.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: I got to be there for my team, for my city, for everybody.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I got to be there just in case
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we do go far.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: I got to be able to be prepared.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think, you know, when this whole thing was cooked being back next year and everything, I think he's been consistent with, you know, yes, he just knows what he wants.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the day, he knows that he still needs to be on the football field to prove that he continued to prove that he deserves what he deserves.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, because he did also have to have a quote of, you know, I'm never going to give up.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know if what I want.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to get done wherever it happens.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether that's Buffalo or else.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I'm not too shocked by anything that he's done.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's a phenomenal player.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's a
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he's had some social media things, but the end of the day he still is a professional football player.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: And he knows that that's his job.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to show up and do his job and do it to the best of his ability.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to win a Super Bowl.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: He loves the city, the fan, loves his quarterback.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: But the only difference is yes, he does have maybe differences when it comes to what he deserves money wise and all that.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: So it's one of those things where, yeah, I'm not shocked that he showed up.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not shocked that he looks
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: good, he think he'll have a phenomenal season this year.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then when it comes to next season, I don't think that changes anything.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: I still, to this, like, to right now, don't believe he'll be here next year, just because of the money aspect with, you know, you're paying in your top, you have a top quarterback in the league.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be top to fit that type of James Cook money in.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I must brand me and says, you know what, we're getting it done here, and we're going to pay him what he wants.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think he'll still think he'll be here next year.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll get what he wants elsewhere.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, whether like I said, whether it's in Buffalo or elsewhere, like I said, I do think it will be elsewhere.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think he will get what he wants, but I think he'll have phenomenal season and and he'll he's going to give Buffalo everything he's got this year this year.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Rich.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, absolutely.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I've been shoot, Benjamin just points to you about James Cook and I and I salute James Cook for being a professional.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he wants his money.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: He feels that he's worth fifteen million.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: He wants that, but he still recognizes that.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I'm a team first guy.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: This is my job.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: This is my profession.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to come out even though I want a new contract, even though I want
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: some lucrative money, I'm still under contract and I'm going to come out with my suitable content and team and do my job.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I salute James Cook and in that retrospect coming out and being that team player and I don't think James Cook is a dumb guy as well when you win your missed time, you're going to miss money and it's not like you're a first round pick where you could afford to miss money.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: You're a second round pick.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: So that's going to that
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think that makes it even more important and more vital for him to be on the field.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: So he don't lose his money being a second-round pick.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: And through history, we see that nothing good happens necessarily when players hold out.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: When players hold out, lay beyond Bell, he held out.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: He got hurt this several years ago when he held out as a running back.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: We seen it from Melvin Gordon.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: We seen it from other positions last year with Brandon and I Youke.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: If you hold out and you miss that time,
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's not only hurting your team, but it's hurting the individual as well because your body is not getting used to those strenuous activities.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're at a portion where you do come back and your team and those individuals on the team is way ahead of you.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: health-wise and condition-in-wise.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now that you have to catch up and the coach and the coach's staff is on a different level in terms of speed and playing field.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this is important for James Cook not only financially, but I also think as an individual just being healthy, being conditioned and getting his body prepared for the NFL season.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I salute James Cook for being that professional and coming out and playing despite one in a more lucrative country.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now there were some comments made about.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_02]: James Cook being here next year.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: He said, he's looking to get what he deserves no matter where it is.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: What he did say, you know, he does want to be here.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: He did say that.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: And Brandon B and said he loves James Cook.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: Love James looks good.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: You can tell he's been working quote, other quote, I'm hopeful when we're at next year's training camp.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: James Cook is out there practicing and representing the red, white and blue.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: So the hope is there.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm what we heard there wasn't offer made at least to him what she declined.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so there is work being done behind the scenes.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_02]: It seems.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: Is there any renewed faith?
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: I know, at least for us, we kind of started this offseason thinking there's no chance James Cook
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: If he doesn't get extended now, returns to the bills next year, do you have any renewed faith after here in the comments this week?
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yesterday and today, that James Cook will be a Buffalo bill next season.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not necessarily, you know, I like to read between the T-Leaves.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: This is not like, you know, Jamar Chase or the situation where, you know, he wants to get paid, but we don't not sure how much, or trade, trade, trade, trade, trade, trade situation where he does want to get paid, but we don't know how much, we know how much James Cook want to get paid.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right, he said, hey, listen, if you pay me fifteen million per year, I will be on the Buffalo bills, or whoever pays me fifteen million a year, that's the team I'm going to go to when is like Brandon Bean is when I'm reading through the TV's again.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, I want you here, but I don't want you here for fifteen million dollars.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the type of vibe that I'm getting now.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: Can things change?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but things may have to change.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: through Circumstance, right?
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: A James Cook, you don't test it the market.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody's giving you fifteen million dollars.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let's circle back to the Buffalo bills and now let's renegotiate the contract.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: Or hey James Cook, God forbid.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: He gets hurt, then your number changes, right?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: Your number changes and your attraction to other teams may change as well.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: So if that happens, God forbid, then we may have to circle around that, back around to his contract because those are the only ways I believe he's gonna come off those, that fifteen million dollar per year number.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: So if nothing like that changes, I don't see James Cook being in the Buffalo Bill.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to have him.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: But if that those circumstances don't arise, then I don't see it happening.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I'm with the team on that.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: Or it's just I think both sides were again.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: Cook would love to be here being loved to have them.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: But like you said, you know, is the number.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: We know the number.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we know the number.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if they wanted to get it done, they'd get it.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: They would have had it done months ago.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, things can change, but we're do they rarely do unless, yeah, like, says unless it's a major injury, or if Coke has an unbelievable season where he blows last year out of the water and means it's changed his mind, says, are you know what?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: You've proved yourself, this is what I want, but who knows, even if Coke has an outstanding season, maybe he wants more at that point.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it is one of those things where I just, I think both sides are trying to just right now be professional, do their jobs.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, brand of being saying the right things, cooks saying the right things.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, past few months, there's been things on social media, there's been rumors, there's been all this and that that may not have looked as professional on both sides.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: But now I think they're at the point of like, you know what, let's just put it aside for right now.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about it maybe at the end of the season, maybe during the season.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: But right now, let's focus on these upcoming season, getting ready for that, getting ready for training camp, getting off everything ready.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like, they just don't want to create another distraction.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: And that was another thing I believe that was kind of said.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, Cook doesn't want this to be a distraction.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, you know, being doesn't want this to be a distraction.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: They just want to go out there.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: They want to win football games.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: And they want to hoist a little Māori trophy at the end of the year.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then they'll worry about it after.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, the comments have been made and then everything kind of changed here and there when it comes to maybe how it's appeared to everybody.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I think, you know, maybe Cook got some info.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Earlier this year about, you know, do this, do this.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: It will help you might have backed by it on a little bit, maybe two with perspective perception to the bills fans or the NFL.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the day, maybe now it's like, okay, let's now get back to just doing this as agents are saying, you know what?
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just get to football.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: Just where you worry about football, where you worry about everything else, us and being more, everything else off the field.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: James, you just worry about football right now.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think anything is going to change during this season.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think it will be tough for them to reach a point.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I do believe
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: Brandon Bean and saying, yes, he wants James Cook here and he wishes Cook could be back, but it's a tough thing because, you know, even the third, I always comment here about third-down opportunities.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's tough when he's not, is he that full-time back that that three down back?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't at Georgia and here in the NFL, he's struggled with past blocking at times.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to pay a guy, fifteen million to, yes, he's agreed with the fall on his hands, but what about without falling your hands?
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's the difference between three.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: Some of these top tier running backs, as you do see them being able to put up a pass block for their quarterback, which James at times has struggled with.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't seen it a ton recently because their third downback has been, has been, I almost just said, Great Davis.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God, I'm blanking right now on.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: his name.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's not been James Cook.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: So you know, yes.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Ty Johnson, Mike, and I think a ty Johnson.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: So Ty Johnson's on the third downback.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, maybe he, they do give him more opportunities this year to say, hey, you can, you proved to be that three downback.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it, that's the big question is like, can you pay a guy fifty million dollars that, are you, that certain he can be a three downback?
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because once you're paying a fifty million dollars or a fifty and fifty million dollars a year,
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: you have to play him like a fifteen million dollar.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're got you can't pay him fifteen million and then only use him sixty percent of the snaps right you have to play him that seventy eighty percent of the staffs and say well sixty percent will be an increase yeah would be and what where is he on offense when there's three minutes left in the AFC championship game and you're driving to try to go take the lead in the most important drive in the season he's on the bench
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think worth fifteen million.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: You got to be on the field there.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I'd start his fall, maybe.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that wasn't his decision.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: And he got serious to me.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: He could be impactful in those situations, but it's just they went.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: At that point, I think they just went with what they've been going with all season was tried.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: Johnson's been the three minute guy.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe they do have regrets about it.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: And this year, maybe you see a change and you see cook down the stretch there.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I know came here.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'm remembering for that opportunity to.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, let's not take away the fact that Ty Johnson's excellent receiver out the backfield.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, I think that has something to do with it as well.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I believe, you know, James Cook is a quality over quantity type player.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: Those forty-five percent of the snaps that he played last season, I think, is what was great for him.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: That was a reason why he was able to limit some mistakes because he had in twenty twenty three.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: He had more opportunities to catch the ball out the backfield and we saw more inconsistencies there.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: I believe he dropped six passes in twenty twenty three as opposed to two passes in twenty twenty four.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that's both because of the the excellence of Thai Johnson and that mass some of his limitations.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: Now does he want to go back out there and show that he can be a consistent receiving threat out the back for a third down.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure he does.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's tough sledding when you have such a good receiving back out the backfield on those situations like Ty Johnson.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Ken Joe Brady do something about this.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: He can set up some two back situations where both receivers can be on the field and possibly make it impact out the backfield.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see if Joe Brady can dial up some plays to get both James Cook and Ty Johnson on the field and threats at the same time.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what happens.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, I hope, I mean, I hope that we can see a little bit more of what I saw today.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, they had a great swing pass where he took it.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: The distance would have been a fifty plus yard score and he's had some of those last year as well that started, you know, kind of being that played breaker big play cook as well as getting those opportunities.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that they added last year was getting opportunities at the
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: at the goal line inside the ten yard line that he hadn't gotten previously and that was a nice thing to see and that's why his touchdowns increase so much so.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, if you haven't done so, please like and share this on Facebook.

- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: So head on over to the built in Buffalo YouTube channel and like and share, we are presented by Monster Energy, the official energy partner of built in Buffalo.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: And boy, it was a hot one at camp today, but here we are recapping.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: He on Coleman did not separate well in day one comes out on day two and had a really great day.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: worked a lot with Josh Allen as I mentioned on the side and outside of the practice window during the practice window had about three to four quality reps catches had one rep going deep on the left side line as the team was going right to left as I saw them.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: and Alan sailed one a little bit over Coleman, so it didn't get a real good chance on that one.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: But otherwise, gold, out, Elijah Moore really standing out to me today, and I think yesterday as well, he's Alan said of him that more of a sudden in and out of cuts can play inside an outside.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: So versatile, like they wanted, Joe Brady didn't mention that.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: Give me as many Curtis Samuels as you can give me on this offense, right?
- 45:01[SPEAKER_02]: They're stacking up this wide receiver crew like that.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: There were only five wide receivers total out there during the practice session and the four four tight ends standing there on the sideline and then Regigulium as well.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: sort of looking at a core five wide receiver room.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: As we look towards a fifty three, but it is only the second day camp.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: So things can certainly change.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: Tyrell's shivers did get another look on the team period with Josh Allen.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: Give your thoughts.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: I want to bring up this comment by Roy to Curtis Samuel did have a nice play today.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: At least one of them and looks looks really good.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: Roy thinks that Samuel is going to have a big
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: year, product more productive than Elijah Moore, if he can stay healthy, and he's going to be intricate part of the offense.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, but Elijah Moore did get a little jet sweep hand off today, too, in a play that I saw.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that they are using more quite a bit.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that they were intentional about their use of Moore today.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: He stood out to me.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: Certainly,
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: their practice intent in many reps were to feature more at scene and Samuel had a few.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: Good ones as well, and he's showing that when healthy he is a valuable part of this often.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: So guys, you know, we can't go player by player anymore as we're getting through or forty five minutes in now and and have only gotten through just a couple of guys.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to kind of go through the wide receiver room as well.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: Anything that stood out to you from that room over the last
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: a couple of days here and just mentioned from my standpoint that you know don't concede also we can we can lump in some tight ends I think here's all the past catchers.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: It seems to me having a chip on her shoulder as as we go through camp and has made a couple of nice plays aggressively going and grabbing the ball away from some defenders yesterday and
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: and had at least a nice catch today.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really good to see.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: Let me know.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: Again, on the past catchers, just anything, you guys can start anywhere you want, but I guess maybe you start with Schupe here and go ahead and keep me.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: Feel free to jump in back and forth on guys that you want to touch on if you know, Schupe's talking about one guy and you have a counterpoint on that.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: You can go back and forth on this segment.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I mean,
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: The the path catchers room, I think, you know, you know, who the top two dogs are in terms of targets this year.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think it will be close to care.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we'll be Dalton concave.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about K before about, you know, he gets the ninety something targets in his first in his work as a rookie.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: He had, I believe, eighty or seventy five or something like that in the second year when he was hurt for some games.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: So he missed games.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll get back to that mid nineties target range and the guy that is right there behind Shakira in terms of target.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe even more than Shakira if they do really start to implement him and he is good year.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for it all in the cave.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he sounds like he looks bigger.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he looks, you know, which is a good thing.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, some players, you don't want to get bigger, but I think in cave needed to get bigger.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, at the Titan position when you have linebackers matched up on, you know, sometimes you do have DBs, but, you know, you're going back and forth.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're just being able to out muscle guys.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's huge for a concave coming back healthy, being able to, you know, maybe
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: become more of a threat as a consistent guy.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited to see concave Coleman.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just curious if they'll use him differently than last year, not completely, but I think they'll still use him as that downfield threat.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm wondering if they try to get in his ball, the ball in his hands earlier, so he can get some yards after the catch because that is one thing he did show that last year is that he can, when he has the ball in his hands, he can make plays after the catch.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they were working on too.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Just not to cut you off just to let you know.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was that quick release.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: Get that incudding route that slant pattern and get the ball in your hands with your momentum moving up the field.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you know, we already know that he can go up and get the ball.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you saw flashes of being able to be a rack receiver there.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that should be a aspect of his game that the bill should look to utilize more.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you could see him maybe getting some shorter passes, see what he can do with the ball on his hands in general.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited to see those two the most.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then when it comes to the more and Samuel kind of conversation,
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think there'll be similar in their stats this year.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'll try to utilize both of them, and I don't think one of them will be way ahead of the other.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'll both be in that similar area.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe more is used a little bit differently, and he gets some more chances.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe with quick jet passes, but I do think Samu is another guy that can do.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: There are two guys that can do a lot of the same things, right?
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to just get the ball on their hands, they can get open, and I think Samu will have a bounce back here.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: but I don't have massive expectations for other than just because they have that everybody in mentality.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think one of them over the other will really show out because I think there's just so many guys that they're gonna look to get the ball to and they'll just be nice, very nice compliment pieces to this team and guys that Alan can rely upon to get open, get yours after the catch as well and just make plays for him.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm excited to kind of just see how they set this this past catching room up, but I do think, you know, okay, I'm excited to see this year.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people were kind of bummed about his past his last year just because he had a pretty good book here for a tight end.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then Coleman obviously going into second year, I just hope that they can expand his usage in more ways than they'd maybe did last year.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, absolutely, and speaking on a key on Coleman, I believe in order for him to be successful.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: They have to make them a positionless receiver.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: If you've got to keep him out there stuck on a boundary, then we might be in for a disappointment.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think he
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: We'll excel with or be on the outside be on the inside catching these short passage being a rat guy rat receiver Excellen or blockin.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could have a little mac Collins in him.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could Expand when mac Collins roll from last year and be that guy that can that can do some dirty work that can block and I think he has to be more of a positionless receiver.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think all our receivers can can play inside our side.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to have to be times where Kalisha here might have to play the boundary and
- 51:55[SPEAKER_00]: Call me and play the play the wire receiver.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I think along as Joe Brady does a good job of keeping these guys interchangeable.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think Keon Coleman can definitely have success.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: I love Eli Moore.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a dynamic explosive receiver who also can play inside the outside.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can do a multitude of things and I think he can definitely be a threat.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now that he has Josh Shaolin as his quarterback, he's somebody that I think defense is going to have to account for when he's on the football field.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see his usage and how it's already Brady implements him in the offense.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not going to talk too much about Kalisha.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: Here he got his role kind of defined.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: We know who he is and what he can be and what he's going to bring to the table.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to see Joshua Palmer.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: I know Josh Shaolin spoke about him being one of the
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: One of the best route runners I believe he's seen.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's played with and I don't know if that was a shut-out stuff on digs.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: I know he didn't say he was the best receiver he's played with but to have that type of praise on a guy like Joshua Palmer who's been there a couple of months with the starter training camp is definitely nice to hear and I think him being a route technician the way he's able to have his quick feet and and separate from defenders I believe that can be a component that
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: Joshua Allen can definitely utilize and go to more often in the night.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: So it's possible that Dawson can create.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the excellent selection by Ben Schoep that he can be the the the the second leader receiver possibly behind.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: Collision here, but I definitely want to look out for for Joshua Palmer and what he can do on the outside as well.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think you know no disrespect to it's adjusted her work, but I think Josh Allen is on on on on on a different stratosphere and I think you know he brought out.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: career years from from John Brown and and and and and step on digs and a number of other guys and I think he could possibly do the same thing for Joshua Palmer.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see him there as well.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: And to be able to write up to before we get into into those guys behind the top five house like
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: How hard to stop is that going to be with, you know, whether it's a three wide with concave and cook or whether it's a four wide with either concave or cook, you know, or five wide set with all of them.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's really tough.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: You can't possibly key on on one person.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_02]: And if they do, they're going to key in on Shakir, go for it.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_02]: Because you're not, you're not going to hold Palmer, Samuel, and more.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you're talking a five-light set and you have, or even if you have the four-wide with the tight end or the back, you're not going to be able to hold the other four if you're targeting just Shakir.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_02]: So like, that's the whole, the whole mantra of this offense that is just
- 54:50[SPEAKER_02]: So exciting for this season because dude, you see it out there on the field a little bit and go ahead and try to stop those receivers will swing it out to James Cook and he'll take it to distance like what are you going to do to stop this and Alan seems to be
- 55:05[SPEAKER_02]: getting the ball out of his hand very quickly in the first two days, which is a little bit of a change.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: So he's kind of just not for sometimes he had forced it a couple of times.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: They were working on medium past routes today.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_02]: So they were forcing some of them into some tight windows there just for him to to practice it really.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so you know, kind of like show off his arm arrogance and sort of sort of thing.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, I think that
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be a very, very hard line-up to stop when that rules out.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_02]: So tell me your thoughts on Virgil because he absolutely rose to Max Harrison today.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: And it was a crosshair.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_02]: Those are tough to defend for guys.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: But with Harrison's speed, I was very surprised how Virgil kind of got away from him and was able to accelerate.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: Virgil is in a slouch at receiver.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think Virgil, you know, on another team, and we talk about, well, there's about due to Buffalo bills having enough weapons, due to Buffalo bills having enough weapons.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: We have enough dynamic players on offense to get the job done in my opinion.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: And Jalen Virgil is a guy that
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, even Tyrell Shivers, you know, I think those are two guys that if the Buffalo bills do keep six receivers because the five we have is it's pretty stout right now is in question if if the Buffalo bills keep six and I think a lot of that is one of the penned on special teams that six things they do I think they do that six receiver that six receivers definitely going to have to excel on special teams and right and thus far again
- 56:41[SPEAKER_00]: helmet in shorts and a t-shirt, but thus far, you know, Jellin Virgil as far as a gunner, he's definitely putting in some impressive work.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see what he does come.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: When the pads come on and when preseason comes along and the blue and white games, so I'm going to be excited to see what he does.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm, I'm actually I'm sort of starting a win that they do keep six.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: Just because I think, you know, when you have either Virgil or Shavers, I know there's still Chanel in there and then Prathers in there, but
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: KJ Hammer.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: KJ Hammer, for me, I love those guys, but it's just the outside looking in for them.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think when you have a guy like Virgil who can be on special teams as well, and you have a guy like Shavers who, you know, obviously, you've only seen him have one catch in the NFL, where you took at the distance, but it's like, what can he really be as a receiver?
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, one of these guys goes down, you know, you want to be able to have that six guy to be able to say, okay, we can just slot you right in there.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that the other, you could put him on practice squad.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: who knows what happens there, maybe if they can be picked up by another team.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I think I really do think it'll be coming down to virtual or shivers for that six spot when it comes to if they do keep six.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm starting to lean that the way that they do keep six, I know it's gonna be tough because this roster just has so much talent.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: What are they gonna do at D-line?
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: What are they gonna do corner?
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: What are they gonna do to say?
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's gonna be a lot of questions about how many guys they keep at certain positions.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: But if they do end up keeping six receivers,
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be between those two, just because Jen, it's what can they really become?
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: Or as you know, you kind of know what you're getting, KJ Hammer, kind of know what you're getting there.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: Prather, I know he was a seventh round draft pick and he was picked, but it's like, well, is he there yet?
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's more of a project or silver.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: He might be the guy you stash on practice squad there to keep, and then go forward next year.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it will be between those two and the as John says in the comments there.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Chanel being injured does not help his case at all either, you know, now you're just fallen behind and as we know, in the NFL, it's never good to fall behind and even if it's one or two days and we talked about injuries to start the show about how yeah, it gives other guys opportunities, but when you're the one looking for the opportunity and you're getting hurt,
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: that's when it really can be painful for a guy like Chanel.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll obviously see as camp goes on, virtual shivers, if Chanel comes back, how he does, hammer, if one of them can really kind of put themselves above the rest as that six guy, but I think it will be between virtual and shivers for that six spot.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_02]: I just can't believe, you know, I saw her shivers out there with the, with the first team.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_02]: He was the only other receiver outside of the top five being thrown to by Josh Allen during the practice session.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: I would say he was on the field with Josh Allen.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't throw to him, but during the seven on sevens and sort of that.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that sort of thing, Allen only threw to the top five, basically.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I, I mean, I, I, for special teams, reasons,
- 59:42[SPEAKER_02]: And look, it seems as though Conternington, Brandon Conternington, the DB is going to get the look again at the Turner.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I just, I really hope that's more because Chanel is hurt.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying Chanel has to be the guy.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_02]: I just want there to be someone who can return and play something.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_02]: So even Ray Davis or Ty Johnson who were out there on the kick return unit,
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_02]: can one of those guys be, you know, can Ray Davis just return kicks and be a running back.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_02]: We know he can be a good running back.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_02]: But he doesn't get all that many reps at running back.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_02]: What he's getting what?
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_02]: Seven to ten reps a game.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_02]: As the third basically the third running back in because Ty Johnson's got the third down responsibilities.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_02]: Cook's plays a ton.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_02]: So like, or plays the other part.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_02]: And so Ray Dave is getting, you know, seven to ten, maybe twelve opportunities a game.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_02]: There's no reason he couldn't also return kickoffs, especially if the bills aren't receiving them all all that much hopefully.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_02]: So with the defense damn.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, you know, for that reason, I do hope that the bills do keep six receivers.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_02]: And we have for that six spot, we do have some good ones to choose from because Hamler is still decent.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_02]: Virgil has shown out and and shivers.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it is just such an interesting prospect.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_02]: I hope, you know, he can come to fruition.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: So let's be on this team.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_02]: But it's a tough path to the field.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: All right, what do you guys think should we talk a little bit of defense now moving on?
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_02]: You have anything more when an hour or so on just injury updates and offense.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_02]: Let's try to close out the show with a little bit of defense here and you know, go through the first thing I think to talk about is the defensive backs.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_02]: during during the first two days then for during day one was definitely showing up big you know he locked guys down on every
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_02]: On every turn, every rep, I think he had nine or so reps the first day.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_02]: Today, he kind of had a lighter day.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_02]: He played for a few team drills, but didn't really do a lot of individuals.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't really see him do too much today.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he got taken advantage of.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think that he really had a big role in today's practice.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when it comes to Benford, I mean, man, he's still to me is massively underrated around the NFL.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: It is kind of a shame to see it because I think
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he got his, he got paid.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_01]: He got certified.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: He is this team's number one corner going down the road in the future.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_01]: He is still very young for a guy who has already kind of proven himself.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: I believe he's still twenty four.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: If not freshly twenty five.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: So when you have a guy that's still young and, you know, not even hitting the prime of his career, at least
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_01]: On average, he has not hit the prime of his career.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I'm just excited to see who's lined up next to him.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I know where we'll talk about that in a minute here, but it makes that job a little bit easier for for everybody else on the defense when you know you have a guy like Christian man for that's just gonna
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_01]: majority of the time locked down his opponent.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have to be here there.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_01]: It just happened being corner is to me probably the second hardest position in sports, you know, maybe behind court or not in sports in football, but behind quarterback.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's just it's amazing to have a guy like this and seems like this year and everybody knows that he's very good, but it just seems like it seems like he is a guy that
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to continue to get better and people are even more excited for him.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_01]: This shirt is even already in day two.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_01]: Do a camp of sand.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, like this guy's already showing out lockdown coverage on top of everything and it's just a pleasure.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a pleasure to watch him this season and kind of been awesome to see him grow from being a late round pick to no more encounter for years to come.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, part of the reason he's he's underrated.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Buffalo bills are we're still in Buffalo, right?
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen a we've seen a tweet or post come out.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: They named the top ten players in New York and Josh Allen wasn't even on the top ten lists and like does he not play in New York?
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't really count Buffalo.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: So we it's it's it's still a thing, right?
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_00]: Even though players and and
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody recognizes who we are by now.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_00]: Benford is a six round pick, right?
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then he comes from Villanova, Villanova's a basketball town, basketball school.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a lot of things that's possibly going against why Christian Benford is as underrated as he is, but you're absolutely right.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_00]: He is one of the best cornerbacks bar none in this NFL.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I believe that, you know, Sean McDurren and the Bill's coaching staff,
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_00]: They recognize who is who.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_00]: They know who is who.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_00]: And Christian Bedford, he had a light practice because he's one of those guys that we know who he is.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to be on that pitch count.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_00]: We spoke about surround Johnson earlier in the show about him not getting as many reps as he did in day one.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a guy that's the, he is one of the best, if not the best in my opinion, a slight quantity in a first or is not too much, they have to prove, but they still have to stay sharp.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I believe those guys are going to be on the proven commodities or the ones that's going to practice, but be on the pitch count as well.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_00]: And Christian Benford just he's earned the right to be one of those guys.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_02]: Kathy Huckle actually discussed on one bill's live today, carving out the metal lands so that there are all three New York teams in New York state kind of redistributing the the state line as probably tongue and cheek as she
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_02]: said that, but it was funny.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_02]: They did discuss the New York teams thing on one bill's live today and Kathy Hockel was at Bill's training camp and did some really cool things with the, you know, AD and different things around seeing people's lives and did some things with the kids.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_02]: for prime five eight five today.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_02]: So really cool that she did all that today.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: But Benford is a bona fide stud on this defense and who's going to play next to him is between probably tray white and Max Harrison.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_02]: I did not like what I saw from Dane Jackson at all today to be honest with you.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really see much from him looked like more of the same that we wanted to move on from previously.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_02]: And Trey White made a nice play on Elijah Moore yesterday.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, was solid today.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't see anything overly.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_02]: stand out from him but was solid still taken first team reps.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_02]: Harrison kind of.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_02]: Almost picked off Mitch for risky yesterday.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_02]: He did have one caught in front of him from concade yesterday as well.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_02]: And today he got torched by burglars.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_02]: I said.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_02]: And look, he's a rookie.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to take his lumps here.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to welcome to the NFL, right?
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_02]: So we expect that.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_02]: So then at safety, we had cold bishop and Taylor rap taking the one reps.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_02]: Saw Hancock playing safety today versus slot corner, so potential.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_02]: change there with Hancock's position we thought he could probably play some safety but they're mixing it up and he didn't have a great day so today and hasn't had a great start to his camp just yet but again two days in I don't want to overreact a couple of days here guys are getting their footing and to be expected especially the rookies to come in and and struggle a little bit so
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_02]: CB-II, the rest of the DV room, just kind of will mention what we're talking about, DVs that Cam Louis was the first
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_02]: slot corner in off the bench when Toronto Johnson was sitting down so Cam Lewis much to my shit ran is seemingly not going anywhere and maybe I should be more happy about that than I am but you know I love the youth movement that we have going and but I also understand the guys that are going to do it here and being the right spots need to be on this team and Cam Lewis seems to be well trusted by this coaching staff so
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_02]: I want to start this one off, maybe, and just take us through any other DB.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_02]: Physicians at CB-II, obviously, and any of the safety talk, maybe, that you want to touch on here, anything you've seen heard or otherwise throughout this couple of days that can't
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_00]: I love the maturation of Church of David's White.
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy who I believe he's going to, you know, and if not, then great.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_00]: If bad Max Maxwell Harrison can be the starter day one, that'll be great.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be phenomenal.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_00]: He has more potential.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: He has the higher upside, but I like the mentorship that I see from Church of David's White when he's talking with the rookie when he's conversing with the rookie when
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_00]: Maxwell Harrison subs out and they gave each other high five or low five.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_00]: You see the mentorship there.
- 1:09:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I really like to see that coming from from Trudevius white a player who's been in the league who's excelled who's been a pro-bolo who's been a all-pro player.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that it would be a great example to take some tuttleage from a mad he had the injuries that he had.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I probably
- 1:10:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to come in a system that he knows well in the
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Do he does best and that then that's be a good zone quarterback that can anticipate and read Western front of him and make the play so I do think he's going to be the starter from day one, but the hope is as the season goes along the growth and the potential
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_00]: uh, grows from uh, Maxwell Harrison and the speed of the game slows down from him.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know we talked about him getting beat on a, on a cross from general verse or earlier today.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's going to happen.
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_00]: A rookie is going to take his rookie lumps, especially being, you know, the thirtieth or thirtieth pick in the draft.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_00]: But what we hope for is for him to continue to progress and continue to improve as the season goes along and hopefully by the end of the season he'll start getting up tick.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_00]: in his playing time and play a pivotal role for the Buffalo Bill secondary.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was great to see Cole Bishop and Taylor rap out there as the starting safeties in the initial portion of camp, right?
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Cole Bishop was a guy who I think
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_00]: was slow and anticipation last year.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think he let a couple of walls deep trying to peek back in the backfield and sheet and sort of speak a little bit and Bobby Babbage spoke about him earlier this year and the growth that he's seen and voluntary work out.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: So for him to come out and be with the starters we see.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_00]: The vision that the buffalo bills have for him, okay, you know, safety is an important position in the buffalo bills defense and last year you was slowed down by injury and you had to come along and it was a slow year, but this year you have all season you have a year under your belt.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_00]: So we expect you to take the rings and
- 1:12:00[SPEAKER_00]: and have that leap of progression.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_00]: And thus far, we've seen that him being with the starting safety as opposed to a tomorrow handling.
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_00]: So that was good to see as well.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And you spoke about Cam Luis, Cam Luis is that guy who's just a professional.
- 1:12:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he is that
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_00]: That swiss army knife in the defense.
- 1:12:20[SPEAKER_00]: He could play a little slot corner.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_00]: He could play a little safety and he played special teams real well.
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he's a key rotational piece for the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Hancock, I seen getting some reps at safety.
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it's still early for him.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to see what happens with him there.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_00]: And even during strong, I would like to see what happens with the late round draft picks for the corner backs for the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because as we all know,
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_00]: The Buffalo bills do a great job on hitting on late round draft fix start with a to Ryan Johnson.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then we had we had sider out sider Ryan, Neil, who was a fifth round pick, who signed the second contract.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_00]: We got Christian Benford, who's a sixth round pick and now on a on a lucrative extension.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_00]: can one of these guys enjoy the Hancock or Dorian Strong keep that ball rolling and find another significant piece in the backfield as a late round pick.
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to be excited to see what those guys continue to do as training camp goes along.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_00]: But thus far, so far, so good regarding the safeties.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what happens when the past come on.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it sounds like strong.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to carve out a roll on special teams potentially if nothing else.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_02]: As a DB, so very, and that again, that's another sort of strike that I have against Brent keeping caudronton just as a return because we just need.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_02]: spots for guys that can really play pivotal roles and then the returners got to be figured out by one of the guys we keep elsewhere.
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_00]: The only rebel the only rebel I would have to that with Brandon Cogerton.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_00]: He only plays that one position, but he plays that one position rather well.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_00]: He was four flash in NFL and part return yards and seventh overall in total return yards.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: So when you are among the league leaders, you know, it's now is up to how the special teams coach view that is does he view that as can you place anybody back there and if you have everything aligned up front kind of like an offensive line, the players can get yards or
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_00]: those Brandon Cogretts and have this special ability where he can excel on special teams and he's warrant a spot because he does it so well.
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to see what happens there as well.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say it doesn't warrant a spot, but I think I made my point now and never ran about.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think I'm going to start with D.V.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think it came you now.
- 1:14:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Eric, you know, everything right there that you said when it comes to just down line with everything.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_01]: First, very white, yeah, I agree with you.
- 1:14:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be this week one starter.
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_01]: I just think, especially when you look at DBs, rookie second year, it's such a jump going from college football to the NFL for any player, but especially for DBs, man.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_01]: the speed and just the size and the strength of these guys at the NFL level is just that much better.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_01]: And that's something that, you know, yeah, it's at every position you have to worry about that, but it's just cornered.
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_01]: But you said earlier, I think it's the second hardest position in football, arguably the hardest.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's, you're one on one a lot of times, you're, you're just trying to get beat.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_01]: And you don't know what this guy is doing.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody else on the offense knows what that guy's doing.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_01]: You have not a clue what this guy is going to do in front of you.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_01]: So it does, yeah, it's going to take, you know, hairstyle a little bit to get going.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_01]: It took Bishop a little bit to get going after his injury started to play a little bit better.
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_01]: You knew they drafted Bishop a part of the reason you knew they drafted Bishop was because of his leadership.
- 1:15:49[SPEAKER_01]: You're starting to hear about it already about him taking control.
- 1:15:52[SPEAKER_01]: being a leader on the defensive side in year two, and hopefully his game then in his place play level can reach up to that as well, so that he can continue to not just be a leader, but be a leader also by performing well.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_01]: So the corner, I think Kirsten, he'll develop as the season goes on, you don't have to rush him in, you have a great mentor and try white who can hold the reins down for you over right now.
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_01]: The second year off the injury, it takes these guys especially for as major of injuries as Tray White has had.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: It does take time and I know some people say, well, he's fully healthy last year.
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_01]: He was fully healthy in terms of he can play on the football field.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think he was fully healthy of he feels fully comfortable.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's ready to go.
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's back to where he was.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, he'll probably never get back to where he was just because the level of play that he was at was that great and when you have major injuries, it's hard to get back there.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think he can still be a very good corner in this league when it comes to especially fees in the right scheme and he fit in this game before and I think he can do it again.
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I really don't have too many worries at corner when it comes everything.
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love I'm going to be interested to see how the handle Cam Lewis and Marcus Ingram and Dorian Strong and you know, even in Ham one in the secondary and
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just the amount of guys that you have hand cock back there, like you're so many guys that's like, okay, how many are they going to keep there?
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_01]: Who's going to be out?
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Camus was a guy that a few weeks ago, I said, I don't know what his, what it's going to look like because they brought their bringing in guys, work he's in is he going to be able to all down his roll as of right now.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like he will be able to.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So it's
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_01]: They have so many guys that I think you can plug in if somebody goes down whatever it is.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really excited for this DV room.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, especially it's night and day from last year for me.
- 1:17:40[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, Russell Douglas was very solid corner back.
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Had to kind of a down year last year compared to what we've seen.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think they'll lose a step when it comes to corner back too.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_01]: When I think they've gotten better at safety, wearing a back wrap, you're going into your two with Bishop and depth wise, it's like night and day when it comes to depth.
- 1:18:00[SPEAKER_01]: When you're looking at the playoff game against Kansas City, obviously we saw what happened with Kyrie, when he had was forced to come in.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_01]: This year, if something happens, yeah, you don't want somebody to get to go down with injury.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_01]: We have so many guys that at least can bring that excitement up, hey, we don't know fully what they have when it comes to Dorian's drawing, when it comes to Jordan Hancock, when it comes to Max Herston, even Tray White, we still aren't fully knowing what he's going to bring.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I am
- 1:18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Very excited for this DB room.
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they can do a lot of things with these guys, especially Hancock.
- 1:18:35[SPEAKER_01]: As a guy that can play all around the field, Cam Luis can play all around the field.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we know we're getting out of Toronto and we know we're getting out of Christian Benford.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_01]: and pretty much Taylor rap.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_01]: But everybody else, it's, to me, it's only up from what we've seen.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think this ceiling, the floor is very low for this, this team, this DB room.
- 1:18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a pretty good floor, but the ceiling, man, I think it can be through the roof with some of these guys.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_02]: Last ceiling, I break in through, I agree.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I gave my thoughts on the DBs.
- 1:19:08[SPEAKER_02]: I really am excited
- 1:19:10[SPEAKER_02]: for this room this year and I'm going to be interested to see what they do as far as the fifty-three-man roster goes.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_02]: Onto the lineback and crew here.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_02]: Thrall Bernard spoke a little bit.
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_02]: We learned that he kind of paid out much a little bit to Kobe Bryant.
- 1:19:28[SPEAKER_02]: Big fan of his by selecting the number eight and he just kind of wanted to be a single digit.
- 1:19:33[SPEAKER_02]: Number if you guys happen to care about numbers.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Some people love it.
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_02]: Some people don't.
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_02]: sort of embodies what they want to be as a physical defense in Bernard's style of play and mentioned that he enjoys competing against the bills sprayed off in every day and that sort of iron sharpening iron so to speak.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_02]: So so Bernard Milano obviously sort of walks to just be what they are.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see if Milano continues to work towards all pro-Met Milano or how much if we can get
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_02]: E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_02]: Getting reps in Shaq Thompson and Prestiday had a sideline pass break up today.
- 1:20:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember the receiver who it was on off the top or at this moment, but Shaq did get some some reps and seemed like he was, we talk about on this show a lot.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_02]: Be in the spot that you're supposed to be in and whether or not you make the play, at least you're in that spot.
- 1:20:59[SPEAKER_02]: It gives you and everyone else around you, the better chance to be successful.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_02]: So on the line-backing unit, guys, any thoughts or noise you've heard or anything you've seen that's been impressive or non-impressive with the line-backing crew.
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_02]: And for me, like I said, I'm excited to see and reason that cannot allow Lancaster in the arc here where I'm currently sitting.
- 1:21:24[SPEAKER_02]: being the second unit leader for the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's such a cool story and continue that along from last season, the sort of Cinderella, how to camp story.
- 1:21:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty special for that kid.
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is another position group where the depth is something that compared to last year again, it's just exciting because it's like if Milano goes down, which obviously don't want that to happen or from our, you know, we don't want that to happen.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_01]: If somebody goes down or, you know, they just need a few plays off because they get a little dinged up, whatever you have guys that come in and recent, I'm excited to see what you can do in the year two track Thompson just a veteran guy that not the same track Thompson or we're seen in the past, but a guy that will be able to, you know,
- 1:22:11[SPEAKER_01]: be a veteran presence and can hopefully make some plays if called upon.
- 1:22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dorian Williams, you know, obviously, I hope I'm hoping this injury is not serious.
- 1:22:18[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't really sound like it is.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_01]: But a guy that hopefully can be a guy that can continue to be that little third linebacker.
- 1:22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to touch on Mammalano coming back though because I heard he looks phenomenal.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_01]: I saw Alec, I think, was Alex Brasky tweeting about her.
- 1:22:37[SPEAKER_01]: saying he looks phenomenal flying around the field, which, you know, it's just a great sign of, again, where you hope that he can get back to being that all pro Malano.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_01]: And dropping out is a great player, but some people, I think, do forget how dominant Malano was when he was fully on the field for sixteen games and being able to play majority of the games, right?
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_01]: And having him next to Bernard,
- 1:23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Milano and Bernard I think can just be a massive game changer if they can be on the field for the entire season or majority of the season just because it makes Bernard's job easier and if the laws Bernard to play a little bit kind of not lose her but she's a little bit
- 1:23:19[SPEAKER_01]: of more, you know, maybe, I don't want to use the word reckless as a bad thing, but reckless in a good way, right?
- 1:23:25[SPEAKER_02]: Being reckless abandoned, right?
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Just yeah, no good.
- 1:23:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_01]: Because you know, hey, if I go try to make this crazy play, I got a guy that is an all pro, great next to me that should be there to clean it up if I miss.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I think these two again, if they can both stay healthy, which is the major thing is that can they stay healthy for his whole season together?
- 1:23:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think they can be the best line-backing duo in the league.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that's, you know, something moving on it.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I really think they can be the, by far, the number one line-backing duo in the league because they, they're both phenomenal players.
- 1:24:03[SPEAKER_01]: They both have an instinct for the ball.
- 1:24:05[SPEAKER_01]: They make plays whether it's punch or ball out, getting interceptions, making a big hit.
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm Milano, I hope can stay healthy, man, because when he is on the football field at full will and he can play every game at full health, he is
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_01]: want to in my at least lifetime probably the best bills linebacker I've ever seen in my lifetime obviously I don't know you he lands you I know it's probably seen mine backers throughout the time that might have been better but well I'll go call me old again sorry I had to head to do it to you but Milano I mean he's just that he's a freaking nature man he can cover he can work cover against the run he can
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_01]: go after the quarterback he is a phenomenal player.
- 1:24:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited to see this lineback in duo and it just makes it even better that if one of them does struggles throughout the season or have to take two or three games off to rest something, they have the guys behind them and Williams and Reese and Shack Thompson that at least I'm a little confident and they can give you that two or three games stretch that you'll need if one of them needs a little bit of time to heal.
- 1:25:06[SPEAKER_01]: So this lineback group I'm excited for almost as much as this corner group.
- 1:25:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have to agree.
- 1:25:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a group that I'm necessarily concerned about.
- 1:25:23[SPEAKER_00]: I have some minor concerns with other position groups, safety, utility, rap goals down, who's playing safety, who's playing in the box.
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_00]: I have some concerns there, but with the lineback and core, I really like the entire group from
- 1:25:37[SPEAKER_00]: from Matt Milano to Joe and Jason to Shack Thompson.
- 1:25:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think Shack Thompson is another guy who has something to prove.
- 1:25:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's a long time Carolina Panther.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's battling some injuries in the last couple of seasons, but thus far he's looked impressive in camp, and that's something exciting to see if we can have a healthy Shack Thompson play for the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:25:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the key here is, like Ben said, is Matt Milano.
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_00]: Matt Malano is is is the key here because I think Ben Schoob did an excellent job describing it, you know, if Matt Malano's on the field, then we can see not saying that's Robynard had a bad year last year, but the year before he was just all over the field.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_00]: Right, intercepting a ball, making sags, forcing fumbles.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we can get back to that.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's robbing, I can get back to that.
- 1:26:28[SPEAKER_00]: If we see a healthy mat malano.
- 1:26:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's going to be key for the Buffalo Bill's defense to have a healthy mat malano and got for a bit.
- 1:26:35[SPEAKER_00]: He does go down.
- 1:26:36[SPEAKER_00]: We do have other players that can step up.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I really like, even though he's battling the calf right now, Dorian Williams last season.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because he had to step in early on in the season, he was amongst the league leaders and tackles in the NFL.
- 1:26:49[SPEAKER_00]: So Dorian Williams is definitely capable of holding it before it down, but I do think the
- 1:26:54[SPEAKER_00]: the big plays, the bang plays, the splash plays goes down if Matt Malano is not in the lineup.
- 1:27:01[SPEAKER_00]: So the key for me is is a healthy Matt Malano, and of course, you know, a healthy Cerro Bernard, so they can cause havoc on there under the inside of that defensive front seven.
- 1:27:12[SPEAKER_00]: If those two guys can stay healthy, I believe they can indeed be one of the best linebacking duels in the NFL.
- 1:27:19[SPEAKER_02]: Right, because Bernard has to then
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_02]: become the coverage guy so that Dorian Williams can be that heat seek and missile, but if Bernard can be more both guys Milano and Bernard have the tendency to be able, you know, they called Milano, I think, missile at some point in time.
- 1:27:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think we made a shirt at some point in time here at BIV a couple years ago, but, you know,
- 1:27:40[SPEAKER_02]: Milano being able to be in coverage allows Bernard to blitz more.
- 1:27:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's very effective at that to get get after the quarterback.
- 1:27:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of his specialties as a linebacker.
- 1:27:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now Bernard also reads the offense very well.
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_02]: And we've seen him.
- 1:27:55[SPEAKER_02]: Was it the Ravens game?
- 1:27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe or what not, come up peel off receivers and make interceptions in the middle of the field on a nowhere one handed jumping catches super athletic, right?
- 1:28:04[SPEAKER_02]: So Bernard definitely has his
- 1:28:07[SPEAKER_02]: athleticism and his skill set in the coverage game, but if he can be a downhill player, blitzing, getting after the quarterback just improves this defense so much more and having a good Milano behind him to fill that void in coverage is something that will make this defense even better in this year if we can see that.
- 1:28:30[SPEAKER_01]: It also allows Bobby Babbage and Sean McDermott to do whatever they want.
- 1:28:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said last, they both can do everything.
- 1:28:38[SPEAKER_01]: Where, and if you just have one of them, still nice because they're both amazing players.
- 1:28:44[SPEAKER_01]: But when you're both of them and like, what do you as a offense, you're looking, you're saying, oh, well, we're not saying, oh, we're just going to go after Bernard, we're going to go after the other one.
- 1:28:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go after Dorian Williams and coverage.
- 1:28:55[SPEAKER_02]: Well now it's the same scenario when you had heightened where right they they played off if you're so well they could disguise things so well they could be so multiple and what they wanted to do now we have that on our second level with the line back and for it and you can even say like if you're the bills while we're bringing
- 1:29:11[SPEAKER_01]: Bernard on a blitz, we're winning the line on a blitz or we'll keep all from a coverage, bring trondrons and on a blitz from the side and go where.
- 1:29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like just it opens up what you can do as a defense and or Benford on a blitz.
- 1:29:23[SPEAKER_01]: You want like anybody you want and you can you bring all of them.
- 1:29:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's like it's if you can do so much and.
- 1:29:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Sean retirement and is probably.
- 1:29:38[SPEAKER_01]: begging for both of them to stay healthy for a long time because it's just when you have both of them at full strength it's I think it like yeah it's it's just gets you know it gets you excited man and it gets you one of those things where it's like you know obviously you have Josh Allen this team you have great players all over the field but I do think it's an underrated part of this team that around the NFL people forget of like hey these two can stay healthy they can propel this defense to being
- 1:30:07[SPEAKER_01]: Bife like the number one T defense in the league.
- 1:30:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they were already good against the run last year when it came to overall running, right?
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I believe they're fourth and the league and rushing hard.
- 1:30:16[SPEAKER_01]: You fix up the secondary a little bit from last year and now you get your two linebackers back and it's like, well, what are we?
- 1:30:22[SPEAKER_01]: What are you going to do here?
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_01]: And it makes it easier on the corners as well for a guy like Max Harrison coming in as rookie for trade white coming in, you know, again, not the same player that he once was, but a guy that, you know, relearning system again already knows a lot of it, but
- 1:30:36[SPEAKER_01]: Easyment to, hey, I can go be aggressive.
- 1:30:38[SPEAKER_01]: I can play my aggressive style at DB there.
- 1:30:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it just, it, I think, everybody on the football field, whether it's the D line, linebackers, anything like their corners, anything that just, it makes their job easier to have both these guys in the football field.
- 1:30:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I really hope that they can say healthy.
- 1:30:57[SPEAKER_02]: for sure.
- 1:30:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now, we didn't really go over any of the linemen yet.
- 1:31:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not going to say too much about it.
- 1:31:03[SPEAKER_02]: You all can say what you feel, but without pads on, I'm just not going to try to evaluate any linemen.
- 1:31:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say Dion Walker is a giant human being.
- 1:31:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mentioned, you know, Kendrick Green stood out as a wide human being on the offensive offensive line.
- 1:31:22[SPEAKER_02]: But Seattle Walker, certainly in person sort of dwarfs, some of these folks that are also large human beings on the bills defensive line, you know, have Greg Russo, obviously, who's a man with human being.
- 1:31:38[SPEAKER_02]: And basically across the line, those guys are
- 1:31:43[SPEAKER_02]: fairly large.
- 1:31:45[SPEAKER_02]: With that, though, there are talks about how TJ Sanders has looked and flashed so far in the first couple of days.
- 1:31:53[SPEAKER_02]: The rookie there, South Carolina, doing Carter had a good day one.
- 1:31:59[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't necessarily notice too much about them.
- 1:32:01[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I didn't watch.
- 1:32:03[SPEAKER_02]: the lineman all that much.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_02]: I did see white get to the quarterback very quickly on a few reps.
- 1:32:10[SPEAKER_02]: As he was in with the FNS out, but I just don't put a bunch of stock into it without pads on.
- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_02]: None of these guys are are really going hard as hard as they could in these reps without pads on on the offensive and defensive line.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah,
- 1:32:30[SPEAKER_02]: They get off so good.
- 1:32:31[SPEAKER_02]: You can see how large they are as human beings.
- 1:32:34[SPEAKER_02]: You could see the rotation.
- 1:32:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mentioned that Epidesa was out.
- 1:32:39[SPEAKER_02]: It was Greg Russo, Dekwann Jones, Ed Oliver, AJ Epidesa at first.
- 1:32:45[SPEAKER_02]: And then it was Roy Carter, OpenJobie in Solomon, the next wave through that I saw.
- 1:32:54[SPEAKER_02]: those were the rotations there on the D-line and I didn't see a lot of Sanders today.
- 1:33:00[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't catch him a lot, but again, I wasn't watching a ton of the lineman play because I really wanted to see areas like the defensive backs and the wide receivers where there's going to be some hard decisions for the Buffalo Bills when it comes time to make this roster that the line on both sides of the ball is fairly well set.
- 1:33:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's not any real position battles.
- 1:33:20[SPEAKER_02]: There's
- 1:33:21[SPEAKER_02]: Your ninth offensive lineman, I think, or eighth offensive lineman, remember that last offensive lineman, you're going to keep is there's maybe a battle for that one, where Will clap was there last year and there's no longer here.
- 1:33:33[SPEAKER_02]: And now on the defensive line with, you know, can Joe be suspended, you basically have your guys that you're going to keep.
- 1:33:41[SPEAKER_02]: most likely coming into the fifty three-man roster so there's not to me a bunch of questions and I just didn't feel before pads come on that need needed to be paid attention to on day two of camp so anything guys have on the defense of line anything you know you're always encouraged I think about hearing guys like car and Sanders flashing and then hoight coming in that that excitement for hoight obviously
- 1:34:08[SPEAKER_02]: a keen you interviewed Michael Hoyt and have that sort of little relationship there that allows you to probably be a little bit of a bigger fan of his than some others just with having that interview under your belt, but you know, he's not going to be here for the first six weeks.
- 1:34:27[SPEAKER_02]: So regardless of what he does early on, you know, we're going to have to wait six weeks to pick that fruit.
- 1:34:33[SPEAKER_02]: So to speak, really seven because the
- 1:34:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:34:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Michael Hoy just a guy that, you know, I think can definitely be an asset to the Buffalo Bill, especially in run defense and run defensive fits.
- 1:34:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could be a play a multitude of positions and he's a guy that
- 1:34:54[SPEAKER_00]: that can cause havoc whether that's playing on outside on the end or inside that tackle or even playing in space.
- 1:35:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a really smart, intellectual instinctive football player.
- 1:35:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's going to be key for the Buffalo Bills, but like you said, he's not going to be available for the first six weeks.
- 1:35:11[SPEAKER_00]: And in my opinion, you know, it's going to take somebody as long as Larry Ogonjoby, he's not going to be available for the first six weeks either.
- 1:35:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, when they come back,
- 1:35:21[SPEAKER_00]: I, one of them, we would like one of them to make a pretty good impact if not both of them, but in the meantime, we're talking about TJ Sanders and, you know, he's, he's impressed, so to speak, without pads on as hard to do an evaluation with anybody, but especially the defensive and offensive lines without pads on.
- 1:35:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's look quick on his feet and he impressed us far and Dion Walker.
- 1:35:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a lot of back issues along his collision career.
- 1:35:46[SPEAKER_00]: So for him to come out and have no limitations to start camp.
- 1:35:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a significant note there and he's up mountain of a man being six, seven, three hundred and thirty pounds.
- 1:35:56[SPEAKER_00]: I believe between him and
- 1:35:58[SPEAKER_00]: And TJ Sanders and Landon Jackson, I believe one of these guys, this year's going to have to make that immediate impact to see the the the full potential for the Buffalo Bills defense of line if we're talking about comparing them the last year, right.
- 1:36:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you'd have one note on land and Jackson, while you mentioned them, he was sort of in the Mac Collins world, this.
- 1:36:20[SPEAKER_02]: training camp day that I saw he was without shoes going.
- 1:36:24[SPEAKER_02]: He did have tape on his feet, but he was not wearing shoes or socks as he was signing autographs for the kids and stuff on the tracks.
- 1:36:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the ghost of Mac Holland still lives on in Buffalo, man.
- 1:36:36[SPEAKER_00]: I sat to see him go, even sat to see him one, believe the New England Patriots, right?
- 1:36:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, him and Stefan Diggs had stories about the bills and the New England Patriots locker room.
- 1:36:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm excited to see what these guys do when they come back for suspension, and it also really gives the young guys a chance to step up and show their worth and hopefully make an immediate impact early for the Buffalo bills.
- 1:36:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this definitely could pay huge for a guy like Landon Jackson where you have Ogon Jobe and Hoitz suspended.
- 1:37:06[SPEAKER_02]: I hope he gets the opportunities same with Sanders and Walker, but I really think the edge position gives Landon Jackson a huge opportunity here, and I hope he knocks another part.
- 1:37:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like you said, Lance, obviously, you don't want to put too much stock into right now, just because the pads aren't on everything.
- 1:37:24[SPEAKER_01]: But once they do come on, you know, if T.J.
- 1:37:26[SPEAKER_01]: Sanders continues to flash, if Wayne Carter continues to look good, you know, he was a guy that, as you know, Lance, I was massive on last year with my favorite pick of the draft.
- 1:37:36[SPEAKER_01]: It could start to the season, got injured once he was back in the injury.
- 1:37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Man, it was not good, it was brutal.
- 1:37:42[SPEAKER_01]: So can he kind of come back and be, take another step going into his second year fully healthy?
- 1:37:47[SPEAKER_01]: And you have, at Oliver too, you have a deon walker.
- 1:37:53[SPEAKER_01]: If those four kind of look good, my only major question is does that push, you know, we've been talking all show about rosters, spots is going to be tough.
- 1:38:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be tough decisions to be made.
- 1:38:06[SPEAKER_01]: Does this push a guy like to conjoins out?
- 1:38:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, I don't people have been talking about it, but if they all look good, and you know, these two are coming back, you know what I have to make tough decisions?
- 1:38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Do you make the cut for the season and say, oh, jacquan, we love you, but you took a major step back last year.
- 1:38:22[SPEAKER_01]: You're only getting older.
- 1:38:23[SPEAKER_01]: And we have guys that are coming in and showing that they can make up for it.
- 1:38:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then once you're open joke, you can come back.
- 1:38:30[SPEAKER_01]: You have another guy that's in the mix there in the middle.
- 1:38:32[SPEAKER_01]: So when it comes to that, I'm curious to see if Carter can keep it up if Sanders can contagious flash.
- 1:38:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've been here about Sanders since he was drafted to hype around him.
- 1:38:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, not just from the fans, but from the coaches and everybody just really raven about him.
- 1:38:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then you know, the highest drafted Sanders in the draft.
- 1:38:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and well, that's exactly.
- 1:38:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have a six, seven day on a walker who was a guy that when he was fully healthy and college was talking about being a potential top ten pick and can do a little bit of everything in college.
- 1:39:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's a past rusher or a very good past rusher for a defensive tackle.
- 1:39:08[SPEAKER_01]: You even saw sometimes he was lined up a little bit wider.
- 1:39:12[SPEAKER_01]: But what can he do now in this bill's defense?
- 1:39:14[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the really the major question.
- 1:39:18[SPEAKER_01]: looking at and then another guy that you know that I'm rooting for heavily is Javan Salam and man.
- 1:39:22[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that he can you can solidify his spot.
- 1:39:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he has a good chance to and Epinesca get injured.
- 1:39:30[SPEAKER_01]: If this opens the door for him, we'll see.
- 1:39:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if it's another guy that's like, well, what if Salam and looks good and you know, you're going to get a heart back and you got Rousseau and, you know,
- 1:39:42[SPEAKER_01]: do you decide to go hey we're going to go with the younger advanced Solomon here and we're going to say by to happen as well as trading them for late round pick whatever it is.
- 1:39:50[SPEAKER_02]: So those two interesting thing that he got the snap over land in Jackson though, uh, in in today's, you know, when, when, happened as a went out and when they rotated in Solomon was the next guy in, uh, and Jackson wasn't so.
- 1:40:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, John Solomon look up here because I believe he's he only played he hasn't played over here, but he has two sacks in his career played technically he's he's played thirteen game or no, that's not thirteen games or it's thirteen total tackles.
- 1:40:22[SPEAKER_01]: But he has two sacks in his career in very limited playing time.
- 1:40:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it's he's a guy that, you know,
- 1:40:28[SPEAKER_01]: leading FBS, uh, and when he was in college, blood that FBS and tackles obviously did go to a smart school, then wasn't playing against the SEC talent back.
- 1:40:36[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:40:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so he has a bit of a specialist in that past rushing.
- 1:40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Von Miller raved about him last year.
- 1:40:42[SPEAKER_01]: So those are the two questions that I guess right now like that we're not going to get made really into the liners because you want to wait till the pads are on, but once the pad comes, the pads come on.
- 1:40:50[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the two things that I'm going to be heavily looking for and those young players can they step up and say, now this is my spot.
- 1:40:57[SPEAKER_01]: This is my team or my spot on the team.
- 1:41:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm ready to take over this position here and sorry to the quad drones or Adrian Panessa.
- 1:41:06[SPEAKER_01]: We know what you're going to bring and on drones, you're only getting older.
- 1:41:10[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to force Brandon B to make tough decisions.
- 1:41:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this whole roster is as we kind of understand the whole show, but can they really make it tough on him and have to make some tough cuts?
- 1:41:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:41:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right, guys.
- 1:41:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm hour and forty minutes in here.
- 1:41:24[SPEAKER_02]: The about does it for us a team.
- 1:41:27[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything?
- 1:41:28[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, thank you for taking time to join us tonight.
- 1:41:32[SPEAKER_02]: I would really appreciate your presence here with us on the triple coverage podcast and always appreciate everything that you do for us here in this brand.
- 1:41:41[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything else that you have that you want to cover or say before we start wrapping up here?
