- 0:00What's up? This is Liam from Cancer Bats. We're coming over on tour
- 0:05very soon to Australia and uh playing a bunch of dates all over and can't
- 0:10wait to be there the beautiful lam Thanks for joining us to saveing brother.
- 0:15Yeah hell yeah man, thanks for having me by pleasure, says you say.
- 0:19The Cancer Bats return to Astralia next month for a running show, starting
- 0:22in Brisbane on Dream to thirty eight, then hitting Newcastle of Sydney, Camber
- 0:26and Melbourne before finishing an Adelaide on during the twenty first Like it's not long
- 0:30now, bro, Like, are you the sort of person get packed it
- 0:32ready to go a couple of weeks out or do you leave things to the
- 0:34last minute. I mean, I'm still on this tour, so I have
- 0:40like a bag of dirty laundry. Okay, cool, I'm ready to go.
- 0:46I could just like put this in the wash and then repack my bags.
- 0:51I feel like this last bunch of touring, we've been really busy,
- 0:54so it's almost like just having a bag packed and like ready to rip is
- 0:59how I've been living. Bag ready. Yeah. So this is going to
- 1:06be your first visit here since twenty nineteen, mate, So what's changed with
- 1:10the band and since last time here Ebria. Uh, Well, last time
- 1:14we played, we had Wade McNeil from Alexis on Fire playing guitar with us.
- 1:21Uh And since then we've had a couple other folks on the guitar duties.
- 1:26But now our our homie Jackson is going to be is going to be
- 1:32shredding for both the Cancer Bats and the Bat Sabbath shows. Hu. So
- 1:36yeah, so you get to Australia, we'll get to meet our new our
- 1:41new favorite. He calls us his uncles because he's younger. He's like a
- 1:45twenty seven year old little ripper. Oh Jesus running rings around you. Yeah
- 1:51wow. I mean he always laughs that we've got more energy than him.
- 1:57So I mean you see just like a filling guitars for the tour or is
- 1:59he out of the band? Yeah, I mean he's definitely a part of
- 2:02the band like this, Like this last tour that we did has been like
- 2:07one full year of touring with him, So definitely like no plans on you
- 2:14know, getting rid of him. He's awesome, He totally And yeah,
- 2:17we've already started like talking about writing a new record and Jackson's definitely like in
- 2:23on the mix on that. So yeah, fantastic. Now you gotta be
- 2:28tour on the back of your latest albums, like a Job Break that came
- 2:30out in mid twenty twenty two, mate, So how was the Responsible album?
- 2:34Did bands get in do it as much as you hope they would?
- 2:37Yeah, Yeah, it's definitely been awesome. I think for us to have,
- 2:40like, you know, put out a seventh record and to have like
- 2:45people like asking for tracks off of it and like singing along and stuff like
- 2:50feels awesome. You know. It definitely feels like it's always like a challenge
- 2:53to keep like you know, writing bangers and like to have stuff that we
- 2:59can like keep in the set that I'll like have, you know, just
- 3:02as much impact as some of the like Lucifer's Rocking Chairs and like Bricks and
- 3:07Mortars and like those kind of tunes. So to have like another album where
- 3:10people are like, oh man, are you gonna play the Hoof? We're
- 3:14like, yeah, okay, sick, Yeah, it's really cool. So
- 3:19yeah, we've been playing a bunch off of that album, but we we
- 3:21mix it up. We definitely still play tons of stuff off every record,
- 3:24so that actually writes a bit of an interesting point, Brian, Like you
- 3:28mentioned the seven albums that you've done and so many songs, So are you
- 3:31find it it's becoming easier on how to come up with fresh new songs the
- 3:36more you're right as you get on. I mean, I think it's always
- 3:40like because you always want to outdo the last kind of like thing. You
- 3:46always want to be like pushing or for us at least like as musicians and
- 3:51as songwriters, and you know, you're like wanting to like keep pushing the
- 3:54envelope and like kind of like have for me. I like the challenge of
- 4:00like wanting to have like a song that'll like sit in the set list and
- 4:04like we'll like kind of like be up there with you know, like I
- 4:09said those other like you write a song that Heale Destroyer that everyone like wants,
- 4:14you know, to party too, and then you're like, okay,
- 4:15I need to like that's the bar to be like right. Yeah, So
- 4:20it feels good when you like write something like like Lonely Bong that like people
- 4:25really really got into as so it's like okay, cool, Like this feels
- 4:30good, like you know, to be like hitting the bat standard so that
- 4:36all of that bride, Like, what would you say your your favorite song
- 4:39to play live? Is like is it the same all the time for you?
- 4:42Does it change? Not? Should? I? I feel like it
- 4:46definitely. Like I mean it's cool to see like a song like Bricks and
- 4:49Mortar that's like such a party like kind of banger. I love seeing that.
- 4:55Like that song has like kind of like become you know, like a
- 5:00staple to the set and like the people are really really pumped on it.
- 5:03So there's some songs like that it just like gets me so fired up,
- 5:08Like I don't want to play Bricks and Mortar like every single set. I'm
- 5:11always Now you've chosen to Sydney band Faints as a national support for the Runner
- 5:17Shows, mate, So how about you know about them? So we actually
- 5:21have like a pretty cool history with that band. We met them at Heathrow
- 5:30Airport, like way back when their old band was basically breaking up. So
- 5:39the guys like minus the singer, we're in another band that had done a
- 5:43UK tour and we were both parking at the like Heathrow Airport to like we
- 5:49were flying back to Canada. They were flying back to Australia and they were
- 5:54like we got out of it. We both got out of our vans at
- 5:56the same time, and we were just like, yeah, what's up.
- 5:59You guys are a band, Like, yeah, we're a band, but
- 6:01Fan's breaking up. And I was like, you know, just like we
- 6:04had finished tour, I'm excited talking to a bunch of strangers, and I
- 6:09was like, who cares, man, Like start a new band, like
- 6:13start a new band on this flight and like fly home and like that's it,
- 6:16like old band's done, Like start a new band, like do it.
- 6:19And I guess they kind of got fired up on the idea and literally
- 6:24like flew back to Australia and started Fangs. Yeah, ended up getting a
- 6:30Canadian guy that we know to like be the singer, which is like again
- 6:33like a weird connection like mix to kind of like the mythos of the band.
- 6:41So then full circle in twenty nineteen, we played the Sydney Show with
- 6:45Fangs. Wow. Yeah, And so it's kind of been cool to like
- 6:51continue this now. So it's like Fans is like doing really good, like
- 6:55they're touring and like like people are getting into them. So it's just like,
- 6:59oh man, yeah, like let's do a Fang's like Cancer Bats tour.
- 7:03That's fucking awesome. And you've also got two local supports in each city
- 7:08too, bro, which which I commend you for. You know, like
- 7:11it's great to see an overseas band coming out and giving some of our up
- 7:15and comings bands a chance in their hometown, right, So good on you.
- 7:17Yeah, I mean definitely like huge shout out to destroy all lines for
- 7:24like getting in the mix and like those like all the locals or for the
- 7:29most part, like we know that there's an awesome Australian steam but for some
- 7:34like we don't know as many bands, so we're like asking friends and like
- 7:39definitely like finding out about as many bands as we can, but destroy all
- 7:43lines. Like Jaden, who was like doing the tour h sent us a
- 7:46sick list of like bands and like definitely helped put that together. So we
- 7:51were really pumped to do that. And then on top of that to have
- 7:57like doing the Bad Sabbage shows. We also have Potion that are doing those
- 8:03dates with us too, so it's yeah, there's like so many cool bands
- 8:09that are on this tour. Okay, but one of the bands you go
- 8:11to Brisbane Piston Fish. I actually many Joys guys and the singer is a
- 8:13tattooist based on Okay, it does all my work. So if you want
- 8:18any stuff done many over in Australia. Mate, you're in Brisbane for your
- 8:20first show, hit him up. He's fucking good. Yeah yeah, oh
- 8:24yeah, So wait I just mentioned this probably bit your alter egos. Thatt
- 8:30Sabbath will be playing exclusive shows in Sydney and Melbourne. So but I was
- 8:35unfamiliar with with that band, tell us bit more about him. So Bat
- 8:39Sabbath is our Black Sabbath. We call it like a worship band, so
- 8:46we definitely like, uh, have a lot of fun with it. We
- 8:50like where you know, very like you look like seventies Sabbath. All the
- 8:56guys have mustaches, I get like big mutton chops cape. We kind of
- 9:01like go like next level with it. But then we do like cancer Bats
- 9:07versions of those songs, so there's like videos of it like online. But
- 9:11we definitely try and make the songs heavier sometimes like a little bit faster,
- 9:16definitely like more like we want to get a pit going and like make it
- 9:22like a party as well as like a full on Sabbath worship. Fuck that
- 9:26sounds also on you doing Sydney and Melbourne're gonna make me jump on a plane.
- 9:31Yeah that was the reason we were like, no, we just like
- 9:37we couldn't figure it out to get as many dates as we could to like
- 9:43to fit it all in. So yeah, we can only we can only
- 9:46do the two shows. So apologies to Brisbane, uh because people that were
- 9:52bound, but all the more reason to travel and party and uh come and
- 9:56have fun, very chapping with my friend. So but for thimese out there
- 10:01who might not have seen Cancer Backs live mate, Like, what what can
- 10:05fans expect? Like what's the typical Cancer Bat show? I've seen you a
- 10:07couple of times and I'm just bats crazy is how I describe it. But
- 10:11how would you describe I feel like Cancer Bats also in Australia is like a
- 10:18perfect storm because like we love to get rowdy and go crazy and like have
- 10:24a blast, and I feel like Australians also share that like vibe and like
- 10:31want to go crazy. So I feel like for people who have never seen
- 10:35us before, like these Australian shows are gonna like be nuts, like everyone
- 10:41goes off, Like it's definitely like a sweaty, fun like party for sure.
- 10:48Hell yeah, I on the plip side of that bright, like,
- 10:50is there anything like a crowd the crowds can do to make your experience better?
- 10:56I guess there was there anything I can do to make you get off
- 10:58stage and just go like fuck, that was a good show. I mean,
- 11:03like anytime people are just like having a blast, you know what I
- 11:05mean, like singing along and like just like having a great I do love
- 11:09that. Like cancer bats shows like aren't the pit isn't intimidating, So there's
- 11:18like everybody is like involved. There's tons of like you know, like uh,
- 11:24girls, guys, everybody like in the pit, Like everyone's partying and
- 11:28singing along. It's definitely like a really fun, positive kind of like vibe.
- 11:31So that's what that's what we definitely love about it. Wait is well,
- 11:35thanks very much for you talking that absolutely pressure as always right. The
- 11:39Tool kicks off in Brisbane on June the third eightything guys pretty much everywhere,
- 11:43So I get hold of tickets now and have a party with the boys.
- 11:48Hell yeah right actually Brisbane, my friend awesome, Mantes dude like it. You
