  hail, thought hello. I've been reading about hello

  because I use the word a lot, as we all do, and it just, I didn't

  realise, but it wasn't until the early 1800s that the word even
• 0:30
  existed. Before that, people would say
• 0:32
  hail or they would say ahoy. Not just pirates, but everyday
• 0:36
  people. That's how they would greet each
• 0:38
  other. And it was really with the
• 0:39
  advent of the telephone that they needed something more brief
• 0:42
  to greet each other with. And that's when the word hello
• 0:45
  began to be used in popular usage.
• 0:48
  The closest thing before that was when a ferryman would be
• 0:50
  heading toward the other side of the river.

  He'd yell hollow HO, double LO, isn't that interesting?
• 0:56
  So yes, hello friends, it is good to have your company in
• 1:00
  this world post early 19th century.

  But that is enough about linguistic history.

  Let us move on to biblical history, not to history, but the
• 1:10
  Bible today and what it has to teach us.
• 1:13
  We continue on this journey with old John holding her hand,
• 1:17
  leading us through, encouraging us to live a life of faith
• 1:22
  transformed by the love that we have from Jesus.
• 1:25
  So let us continue on that journey, reading together first
• 1:27
  John chapter 4. Dear friends, do not believe
• 1:41
  everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit.
• 1:44
  You must test them to see if the Spirit they have comes from God.
• 1:49
  For there are many false prophets in the world.
• 1:52
  This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God.
• 1:55
  If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus
• 1:58
  Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.

  But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge
• 2:07
  the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God.
• 2:11
  Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard
• 2:15
  is coming into the world and indeed is already here.
• 2:19
  But you belong to God. My dear children, you have
• 2:23
  already won a victory over those people because the Spirit who
• 2:27
  lives in you is greater than the Spirit who lives in the world.
• 2:31
  Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the
• 2:34
  world's viewpoint, and the world listens to them.
• 2:38
  But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us.
• 2:43
  If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us.
• 2:47
  That is how we know if someone has the spirit of truth or the
• 2:51
  spirit of deception. Dear friends, let us continue to
• 2:57
  love one another, for love comes from God.

  Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God, but anyone
• 3:05
  who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
• 3:11
  God showed how much He loved us by sending his one and only Son
• 3:16
  into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.
• 3:21
  This is real love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
• 3:26
  and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
• 3:32
  Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to
• 3:36
  love each other. No one has ever seen God.
• 3:40
  But if we love each other, God lives in US, and His love is
• 3:44
  brought to full expression in US.
• 3:48
  And God has given us His Spirit as proof that we live in Him and
• 3:52
  He in US. Furthermore, we have seen with
• 3:56
  our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent His Son to
• 4:00
  be the Saviour of the world. All who declare that Jesus is
• 4:04
  the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.
• 4:10
  We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His
• 4:14
  love. God is love, and all who live in
• 4:19
  love live in God and God lives in them.
• 4:23
  And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect.
• 4:28
  So we will not be afraid on the day of judgement, but we can
• 4:32
  face Him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this
• 4:36
  world. Such love has No Fear because
• 4:39
  perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear
• 4:45
  of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully
• 4:48
  experienced His perfect love. We love each other because He
• 4:54
  loved us first. If someone says I love God but
• 4:59
  hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar.
• 5:02
  For if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God
• 5:06
  whom we cannot see? And he has given us this
• 5:09
  command. Those who love God must also
• 5:13
  love their fellow believers. Well, it couldn't be any
• 5:26
  clearer, Lord, that you are love.
• 5:30
  Not that you love generously or that you behave out of love.
• 5:33
  It's that you are love. Your very essence is love, and
• 5:39
  you lavish yourself, your essence and your love on us and
• 5:43
  we're so grateful for that. And your love not only changes
• 5:48
  us, but it drives fear from us because there is nothing we
• 5:53
  need. Fear because your love changes
• 5:56
  everything. And no matter what plays out
• 5:58
  around us, we are saved. We are loved, we are held.
• 6:03
  And that gives us the sperm foundation from which we can
• 6:07
  face any challenge that will throw itself across our path
• 6:10
  today. And no matter how difficult or
• 6:13
  upsetting things get here and now, Lord, we know that Your
• 6:16
  love holds us and will ultimately bring us to You into
• 6:23
  Your loving embrace for eternity.
• 6:26
  And it will overpower all others and all else.
• 6:31
  All we will know is Your love. Wow.
• 6:35
  Thank you for this love, and I pray that as we have but a taste
• 6:39
  of it now, that the knowledge of the fullness of your love to
• 6:43
  come would bring us your peace and joy and excitement.
• 6:50
  We love you, and we're so grateful for all of the love
• 6:52
  that you first gave us. We pray this in your name,
• 6:55
