- 0:36on all social media platforms as well.
- 0:37So if you want to watch other videos on on like TikTok and
- 0:39Instagram, I'm on all those two guys.
- 0:41The thing is right, social skills is the probably one of
- 0:45the biggest issues. Now I want to speak to autistic
- 0:46individuals like myself. Social skills, social
- 0:48development, social issues, and the biggest thing on everyone's
- 0:52mind is from making friends to making romantic relationships to
- 0:55finding colleagues and making friends at work.
- 0:59All these things are quite difficult.
- 1:00So how does one develop social skills when they're on the
- 1:02autism spectrum? Now there are some steps that we
- 1:04take to do this. Now before I get into those, I
- 1:06just want to say that I have an Autism Life Hacks PDF book that
- 1:09you can download completely free from autismhacks.net.
- 1:12You can do it right now and that will just help you and your
- 1:15life. But developing social skills now
- 1:18there's two things we need to remember.
- 1:19There's two things we need to remember.
- 1:21When you're in a social setting, there are two people there, you
- 1:24and somebody else. Now, how communication happens
- 1:27is that you put out particles from your area of space.
- 1:31Somebody else receives those and they reciprocate that, so they
- 1:34send them back and then you receive those.
- 1:36That's basically the cycle of communication.
- 1:38Now, if you put this into perspective, all you're doing in
- 1:41a social environment is understanding their cycle of
- 1:44communication. If somebody waves and says
- 1:46hello, when you wave back and say hello, you reciprocate the
- 1:49cycle of communication. If someone asks you a question,
- 1:52how are you feeling today? You reciprocate with how you
- 1:55feel today and maybe you could ask them as well.
- 1:58So developing social skills is a practice makes progress
- 2:02scenario. The more that you can expose
- 2:04yourself to social interaction and ask questions in social
- 2:07settings, the the easier it becomes.
- 2:11Now, one of the things I would say is befriend somebody or ask
- 2:14for advice from somebody who's really social, somebody who's
- 2:16got lots of friends, somebody who knows how to work the room.
- 2:18If you can speak to them and say how do you do it?
- 2:20How do you become social and watch and learn from them?
- 2:23You will win because they were going to be able to provide more
- 2:25information for you in your situation, in your environment,
- 2:27in your culture than anybody else will.
- 2:29Better than me, probably. The other thing I would say is
- 2:32that if you have the ability to sign up on Facebook or maybe on
- 2:37a games console to environments where you can, you know, live
- 2:40chat, obviously, if you're over 18 with other individuals who
- 2:44are on the autism spectrum in a group setting online or offline,
- 2:47you can find local support groups of autism and go there
- 2:50and just be yourself. The more true to yourself you
- 2:53can be, the easier social skills can develop because we're all
- 2:57stumbling over social skills because we're trying to be
- 2:59somebody we're not. But when you just relax and
- 3:01become yourself, you win every time.
- 3:04Now go out and try that. Come back and comment on this
- 3:06video and tell me how easy it felt once you started to
- 3:09surround yourself with more social communication.
- 3:11All right, guys, see you in the next video over a piece.
