- 0:01Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, today, in
- 0:07the honor of the eightieth anniversary of D Day, the Storming of the Beaches,
- 0:12I want to get into a very special couple of conversations I had from
- 0:17Memorial Day twenty twenty three one, including New York State Veteran Hall of Famer
- 0:22Veterans Hall of Famer Arthur Grabner, who was at that parade last year with
- 0:28his son Doug, and I want to replay that conversation as well as the
- 0:34others in which we honor the veterans each and every year Memorial Day at lettim
- 0:39Neick Douglas let him on the veterans. It's great. They do a wonderful
- 0:48job. They have the parade, and they have the parade, they have
- 0:53refreshment, and you know, they bring you out with the resst never do
- 0:59as has the you put in the military change over the years. From where
- 1:03you sit that hats, I've been there a long time ago. I was
- 1:08in the Navy in February nineteen forty four or forty four forty four to May
- 1:19of forty nineteen forty six, and I was on intact Prince for May in
- 1:23nineteen forty six, Well, sir, and thank you for your service to
- 1:27this country, and any words to the military of today and any moment that
- 1:32you can remember from even those days fighting World War Two that you want to
- 1:36hear, it was great. The war is a horror young people kids killed
- 1:44for no reason, or it's a horror. I escaped it all. I
- 1:49was lucky. God bless you, sir, Thank you all right. Well
- 1:53that look back on Memorial Day twenty twenty three featuring New York State Veteran Hall
- 2:00of Famer Arthur Grabner, who was a World War Two veteran, proudly serving
- 2:06in the United States Navy aboard the USS Laurens APA one five three and attack
- 2:12transport ship in the Pacific theater of War, among other campaigns. So he
- 2:17was there in World War two, and today we should honor no matter if
- 2:25they stormed the beaches or not. We should honor those who did fight in
- 2:30World War two, and remember that they stormed those beaches of Normandy which changed
- 2:38the course of history. But so we can, you know, go to
- 2:44the beaches in memorially weekend they stormed them, so we can enjoy the beaches
- 2:49of New York and across America. But those beaches in Normandy, we're not
- 2:55a vacation spot for the men and women that stormed Normandy on June sixth,
- 3:05nineteen forty four, eighty years of D Day. And by the way,
- 3:10in the next section here, I want to talk about some resources for veterans
- 3:15with disabilities. Thanks to Disability Scoop Sourceamerica dot org has plenty of employment resources
- 3:23and I want to share them with you right now. If you're a person
- 3:30with a disability searching for a job, here are some additional resources disabilityjobs dot
- 3:37net, the Office of Personnel Management, that's US Office of Personnel Management.
- 3:43Check what they've got going on, Career one stop including resources, job search
- 3:49help and lists of job boards for people with disabilities. For veterans who are
- 3:53disabled, you know, they have multiple resources there FEDS higher vas, Military
- 4:00one stores and career one stop for transitioning service members veterans and military spouses,
- 4:08and job boards specifically for military spouses as well. So there's a lot of
- 4:14options. And you know, I always say we got to smash stigmas,
- 4:17and here's a perfect opportunity, a perfect resource, a perfect resource to look
- 4:29into. Now. Of course, I would also recommend the Viscardi Center always
- 4:32looking to help people get jobs that are disabled and increase the disability workforce,
- 4:40So of course the Viscardi Center dot Org. I would highly recommend them as
- 4:43well. So there's so many outlets, so many different people that are out
- 4:46there, so many sources and resources that are out there to make work happen
- 4:53for you. You got to check it out in the link below, in
- 4:56the description below. I'm also fired up because so every time on this delay
- 5:02into congestion pricing, and I believe that's gonna help those disabilities as well,
- 5:09because imagine being disabled and having to pay to be below sixtieth Street. Also,
- 5:15so any delay is gonna help any everybody and anybody as far as I'm
- 5:18concerned. And good on. Kathy Hochel from Maneuvering, speaking of the Viscardi
- 5:23Center, I didn't get the chance to play this the other night or for
- 5:26a while now, But in addition to Tino Martinez, I got a chance
- 5:30to talk with three members of the Saint John's wheelchair basketball team this past spring
- 5:38when they were on the court with our wheelchair basketball athletes, our adapted basketball
- 5:44athletes at the Viscarti Center. I think the American public should well, this
- 5:50is not I'm here with three of the guys from the twenty three to twenty
- 5:54four Saint John's campaign. First of all, Jordan Ingo, Yes, congratulates
- 6:01on being here today. Thanks for being here today. Tell me about what
- 6:04the adjustment was like for you from the course of the power of the wheelchair,
- 6:09if you will, Jordan Dingle, I think the biggest thing is being
- 6:14physicality out here. You know, I certainly wasn't prepared for it. A
- 6:16lot of energy, a lot of communition as well. It was really fun.
- 6:20And then yeah, man, it was very competitive out here. Man,
- 6:27I definitely gotta get adjusted to it. But I had a lot of
- 6:30fun though. I had a lot of fun. Yeah, I think you
- 6:32gotta be really skillful. Yeah, you got to know the technique touched off.
- 6:38Without the technique, you're not gonna be able to play. And then
- 6:40I gotta ask you about first season when Patino? What was that like?
- 6:43Just while you guys are here, let's start with first year with Patino?
- 6:46What was that like? Coach? With Coach Patino, that was good.
- 6:47Man definitely learned a lot on and off the court. I mean, he's
- 6:50a great coach. Hall of fame coach. You know, you can learn
- 6:53a lot from him and just always just to make adjustments throughout the course of
- 6:59the year. And yeah, and then, uh, one thing that stood
- 7:02out was his competitiveness. You know, he he's to lose, and he
- 7:04brought out the best and everybody around him every single day. You know,
- 7:09there was no days off. We got better every day that we were with
- 7:11each other, and we built a really close bond with one another that I'm
- 7:14grateful for. Uh. I think it's a great coat you've bring down with
- 7:17the best out at year. And then tell me one last thing about the
- 7:19partnership with Biscardian Saint John's. It looks like there's gonna be a long standing
- 7:23partnership. To tell us that that's like as well. Hopefully it is very
- 7:26long standing partnership. The energy whenever I come here is always amazing. It's
- 7:29always a warm welcome. The kids have such bright spirits and you guys did
- 7:32a tour earlier in the year, I believe, and it was beautiful to
- 7:34beautiful campus here. There's a lot of people here who go into making it's
- 7:38such a great place and I'm so grateful for every second that I get to
- 7:40spend here. Well, thanks so much, guys. How about you the
- 7:42partnership between Biscardian Yeah, man, I Joints said. I hope the lasts
- 7:45a long time. You know, the great hospitality here, great kids,
- 7:47great everybody. I mean hopefully lasts long. Uh. I hope it continued
- 7:53on because it's really fine coming to Cibody, like the love and the smile
- 7:58and the everybody's supposed this movie. We go. Jordan Raheen, thanks so
- 8:01much, and I hope you guys are going to keep playing today. You
- 8:03guys are great, so thanks so much. I mean, how cool is
- 8:07that to get the opportunity Thanks to doctor Chris Rosa and Joe Solonica for having
- 8:13Saint John's three members of the twenty twenty three twenty fourth squad. And you
- 8:18know, Gabby and I were at the game. That kind of change everything,
- 8:20right, So Saint John's was kind of struggling there and they give up
- 8:26another game, this time to seat in the hall. Rick Potino has a
- 8:30famous press conference nowhere where he basically calls out everybody from the facilities to the
- 8:37players of Saint John's basketball And I think that was a maneuver to fire them
- 8:43up. Because they went on a tear after that, didn't they. I
- 8:46mean, they almost should have made it to the NCAA tournament. But I
- 8:50digress. I was so honored that I got to talk with three members of
- 8:54the Saint John's basketball team for the year and got to see them play a
- 9:01low wheel chair basketball in addition to seeing them play at ubs earlier of the
- 9:05year against Seen Hall. Of course, thanks Dave Popkin for that hookup as
- 9:11well. Now, one other thing, because you know every talking about different
- 9:16trials and testimonies, and Anthony Fauci was recently asked this question by Congressman Robert
- 9:26Garcia. Take a listen. I think the American public should listen to America's
- 9:31brightest and best doctors and scientists, or instead listen to podcasters, conspiracy theorists,
- 9:37and unhinged Facebook memes. Now, listening to people who you've just described
- 9:45is going to do nothing but harm people because they will deprive themselves of life
- 9:48saving interventions. So let me ask you this, Alex Garrett. Podcast listeners,
- 9:54have I deprived you of talking about the vaccine? How have I deprived
- 10:01you as a podcaster? Which I think Robert Garcia paints a broad Bush and
- 10:07Fauci leans into it very much, so continues the painting. If you will,
- 10:11have I deprived you of any information or straight you away? Because as
- 10:20a podcaster, I'm offended that he looped all the good podcasters in with the
- 10:26nut job podcasters. And I call out Robert Garcia and Fauci for doing this
- 10:33because I believe when I got my first vaccine, I was proud of it.
- 10:37When I got my second vaccine, I was talking about it. There's
- 10:41no doubt I was supporting the idea of the vaccine to get us healthy and
- 10:48to get us back out there now three years ago. So when you ask
- 10:54this question, and I'm gonna play it for you again, but when you
- 10:58ask this quest question, Congressman Garcia, I think the American public should listen
- 11:05to America's brightest and best doctors and scientists, or instead listen to podcasters,
- 11:11conspiracy theorists, and unhinged Facebook memes. As a podcaster who's tried to give
- 11:18you the most information and try to become an information hub with the Alex Scatt
- 11:24podcast network, I'm offended that my tax dollars have gone into something like Congressman
- 11:30Garcia's ability to go up there and paint all podcasters with a broad brush.
- 11:35That's not right, that's not cool. But for doctor Anthony Fauci, who,
- 11:41by the way, in emails and emails and emails, said the masks
- 11:43were not going to work, but then when on television said they were and
- 11:46demanded we all mask up for him, and for Congressman Garcia to loop every
- 11:54podcast who's trying to do good in with the minority that do sound very extreme
- 12:01and radical, to loop all of us together like that. Not right,
- 12:09not right. And I hope that something came out of that testimony this week
- 12:18from Fauci and it wasn't just political grandstanding by any party, to be honest,
- 12:26because yes, he observes to be held accountable, But do we really
- 12:31want to drudge up what happened four years ago? Do we really want to
- 12:35do that? So I'll be dropping the links below to Disability Scoop, fascarticenter
- 12:41dot org, and my other thoughts from this episode. Because we're not all
- 12:52bad podcasters. We actually serve a purpose and we have information we want to
- 12:58share. At least I do, and that's why I keep going on the
- 13:01Alex Garrett podcast Network
