- 0:46Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:49I'm Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian siglo buddy.
- 0:52Hump day. Wednesday night.
- 0:54How's it been man? Well Dave oh we got.
- 0:59We were twinning here. We're beard winning party.
- 1:03Would find poke longer. Yes, sir.
- 1:07Get six more in the basement. I'm going to get you in there in
- 1:09the broadcast but relationship, we go out and buy you some and
- 1:12go even Lane Stadium. This your buddy.
- 1:13It's been spinning. Another.
- 1:15Great week another week off of work, but we call them work with
- 1:19a lot more work. I'm no, you're doing more or at
- 1:24least somewhat equal amount of work, despite not working.
- 1:29Meanwhile, I'm over here, I'm back in the office for the first
- 1:33time, since March of last year, only this week and then also
- 1:39starting Masters Masters classes for the semester today.
- 1:44It's been a A full day I finished up with that about 10
- 1:48minutes before we jumped on here.
- 1:49So nice. How was the commute in from
- 1:52Mechanicsville downtown? It's not bad by new parking
- 1:55spot, has cut 10 minutes off my walk-in combined with my
- 1:59commute. So I'm saving 10 minutes now.
- 2:02Wait a second. Did they put you on the side of
- 2:03the river? I'm on this side of the river
- 2:05when I'm, no, I'm no longer on Mayo Island.
- 2:09I am now at the train station. So you're moving up in the world
- 2:14down there then. Yeah man, I'm good.
- 2:17I've got the Primo spots now that is absolutely sweet man.
- 2:22And me, I'm just doing me hanging out with the kid having
- 2:25a good time much-needed. Much-needed, time.
- 2:29And have a great time with her but it is work.
- 2:32It is work from 5:30 a.m. to when the wife gets home and but
- 2:37it's been good, you know, not many companies, give that you
- 2:41know, parental leave. I got a month ago.
- 2:44It's all Awesome. I'm going to take a another week
- 2:48and then after Labor, Day back to the normal grind, and man
- 2:53looking at hokey football, we have a lot to cover tonight.
- 2:58Last week with breast pick six reviews.
- 3:01Awesome, awesome time with Tim we spent some time with him
- 3:03before and after got me even height for the season.
- 3:08But tonight what we're looking at, folks are two big topics.
- 3:13We're going to talk about the alliance announcement.
- 3:15Yesterday with some people are clowning on some people saying
- 3:18it wasn't an announcement. I got some different views from
- 3:21those two, and then we are going to give our season preview
- 3:26record. Do not take this to Vegas or any
- 3:31sports adequate might lose money.
- 3:34Thank you to Vegas. I like my pics mu.
- 3:37This is all Pixar. For entertainment purposes, only
- 3:42lock it up. You cannot.
- 3:45Let's start it out. We're gonna we're gonna start a
- 3:47sort out with the, I don't know, bro, what do you call this?
- 3:50Let's just call this the depressing opening.
- 3:52And let's start with really sad news from last week.
- 3:55A manual Belmar. Has to retire, you know, what do
- 4:03you think, Ronnie? You played football in.
- 4:05This guy has to stop before. Essentially, it's over for him.
- 4:09Yeah, and I mean, I had to do something similar for different
- 4:11reasons, so, I mean, it sucks. Anytime that you still have
- 4:17eligibility, like, if your yourself, you'd still be
- 4:21playing, but something else kind of takes that away from you.
- 4:24So that aspect of it, always always.
- 4:27It's big time and I feel for him.
- 4:30I mean he bled maroon and orange when he went out on that field
- 4:33man. And you know, I felt like he was
- 4:37starting to come into his own a little bit towards the end of
- 4:40last season wanted to see if he was able to take a step this
- 4:43season, but with some of those the concussions and everything
- 4:47else going on towards the end of the season, it just looks like
- 4:50he was never able to get back to to where he needed to be to
- 4:53play, so unfortunate for him, but hats off to him.
- 4:57We'll miss him out there on the field this year.
- 5:00Absolutely, I'm hats off to him. Hats off to him for also, trying
- 5:03it to give it a try and fall Camp, one more time and then
- 5:07realize where he was he couldn't do it.
- 5:10There are people out there that I'm sure would have went through
- 5:13it. But obviously, for him, it was a
- 5:16look down the road in 20 years since I want to say, when we are
- 5:20in our life and we got a wife and kids and there's going to be
- 5:23potential consequences down the road for the Hokies.
- 5:28Definitely hurts defensive in you know him gone Alec Bryant
- 5:31gone, Robert wooden gone and that's big.
- 5:37You know, we were we were hoping for Belmar then you know you got
- 5:41a healthy Garbutt back, probably having a first two lines where
- 5:47you felt pretty good about even if you weren't necessarily
- 5:51jumping for joy. Now, that gets a little bit
- 5:54sketchy heading into the season. First line, not not too
- 5:59concerned about, but kind of that, that fourth and fifth DN
- 6:05is where you start seeing a little bit of.
- 6:07We feel good about Jalen Griffin, we haven't seen as much
- 6:12with the question is Cole stretch Carroll one of these
- 6:16younger guys, do they take a prominent role and I think you
- 6:18know, we're ten days from seeing that but as far as Belmar goes,
- 6:24that man will be forever remembered for getting on that
- 6:27ball. UVA game to extend the streaks,
- 6:30both ways. He was there, he got it and you
- 6:34know, I think there was a picture of him.
- 6:36Somebody put it on Twitter, it was a picture of him holding the
- 6:39ball and you could just see the UVA fans are the faces were
- 6:43like, oh God. No, not again, not again, but
- 6:46Emmanuel Belmar. Best of luck to you and whatever
- 6:49you do. I am sure you're going to do
- 6:50great things, whatever, Walk of Life takes you.
- 6:54All right. Poor sad news.
- 6:56We're starting all sad because you You know, we got to get out
- 6:58of the way early. I can't make it in today.
- 7:02Xavier Simmons D commits. Some people said they had known
- 7:06about this for months weeks. Nothing I don't ever remember
- 7:10seeing anything. But again, I'm also got three
- 7:13kids. I was running around like
- 7:14chicken head copped off. You did a position group, I
- 7:17think we're okay. It sucks losing because he's an
- 7:19all-around athlete. Yep, it's not like a crippling
- 7:23position. Where we have no one coming in
- 7:26or no one already on roster of talent.
- 7:29Yeah, I mean I've heard things like family had friend or
- 7:36acquaintance on coaching staff there You shot.
- 7:40So it could be something related to that, but it's still a big
- 7:45loss for the Hokies. You can't spend it any other
- 7:46way. This was probably our, I'd say,
- 7:50number two, number three, that recruit for this cycle and you
- 7:55know, losing a player of that of that caliber, you know,
- 7:59composite borderline for Star, 4 Star by 24/7.
- 8:03I mean, you can't just say, oh, that's not gonna make a
- 8:06difference. It's definitely going to make a
- 8:07difference, especially the long Run there.
- 8:09So definitely sucks losing out on on Xavier Simmons and hurts.
- 8:15Some of our case that were trying to make against the, the
- 8:17other people in the ACC, we went into North Carolina and got one
- 8:21and now, we don't. So yeah, there's, there's that
- 8:24element of it to now. He didn't go to UNC vote, but we
- 8:29have dessert. When you get a win in, in the
- 8:32state of North Carolina, you got to take one and unfortunately we
- 8:36weren't able to close the deal and and carry that through to
- 8:39sign. Day.
- 8:39So best of luck to him at Missouri but I was looking
- 8:43forward to seeing you in maroon and orange True.
- 8:46You talk about the relationship. It's the Eli drink was
- 8:48connection, who was a tap stay, just a couple years ago.
- 8:51So obviously, you know, AB State just literally probably the same
- 8:55amount of drive from the 336 as it is to Blacksburg.
- 8:58So, obviously a connection there and like you said we had talked
- 9:03about, he was one of the crown jewels, right?
- 9:05Yep. Gunnar Ramon.
- 9:07We consider Rashad, we consider, Him.
- 9:09So you lost a crown jewel. Now I'm not going to say the
- 9:12name yet but there is a name that is coming up more and more
- 9:16often. I'll hope these boards from the
- 9:19state of North Carolina now playing in Virginia for this
- 9:23season that be on the lookout for this guy.
- 9:26Just I'm not going to say the name but start reading folks.
- 9:30The one other thing that I did not like about his deep
- 9:33commitment he literally did it right before cam Johnson
- 9:37committed. Like listen man, you want to D
- 9:40commit that school, but you legitimately know this guy's
- 9:44going to the university that you're leaving.
- 9:48Just think about that. That's kind of those life
- 9:51decision things where it's kind of like I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm
- 9:55gonna You're gonna laugh at this point but it's kind of like if
- 9:58you get pregnant. And you go to a friend's
- 10:01wedding, you do not announce that you're having a freaking
- 10:04baby at the Friend's Wedding. You just don't do it is bad
- 10:08taste. That's what happened about that
- 10:11and we're going to shut the door on it.
- 10:12All right, there next up big guy and I don't know if necessarily
- 10:16say this is sad news but it's kind of out opening news with
- 10:20Devin Taylor getting in the transfer portal.
- 10:22How did you read this? I read that as he was
- 10:29essentially, going to be the third guy up at boundary safety
- 10:34because I it looks like they're cross-training Tay daily both
- 10:39positions. Yeah.
- 10:41And he's essentially going to be the first Sub in with more than
- 10:46likely counted Jenkins, taking over at at free and obviously,
- 10:51Devon Hunter locking up boundary safety.
- 10:53There so sounds left A daily was going to be the guy that the
- 10:57kind of pivot player and he was kind of ahead of where Devon
- 11:00Taylor was at boundary safety but also the best man up at the
- 11:05at free as well. So he probably Devon saw.
- 11:09It is probably not going to get him a lot of opportunities on
- 11:12the field this year, maybe can go and see what take my talents
- 11:16somewhere else and get on the field.
- 11:17It was, It was kind of the, the reason he came here, he saw an
- 11:21opportunity last year based on He came in I mean that was that
- 11:26was kind of big for us your Shoring up a departure with you
- 11:32know a cornerback and he was pegged to play either cornerback
- 11:36or and then we had to end up moving him over to to safety
- 11:40once we had started having some some thinness there.
- 11:43So exactly. Um it's definitely a little
- 11:47depth concern just because we felt like we had about four or
- 11:51five guys that were that were ready to play at the safety
- 11:54position. Now we're probably close Sir, 2
- 11:553 or 4. So definitely, you know another
- 12:01the theme of this season ladies and gentlemen is going to be
- 12:03depth because Frontline, we're a decent team.
- 12:08Yeah, we're probably your, I'll say it eight or nine when team
- 12:12if we stay 100% healthy all year but one injury at certain
- 12:18positions could drop about three or four winds off the table
- 12:22there so you can go home followed season 2.
- 12:25A parrot, really. It would make the last few years
- 12:31when I say that 20 and 18 look actually decent.
- 12:34I say the one piece you talk about a daily.
- 12:36I think it says tase better at both.
- 12:38The he is the case. Essentially, your de facto, it's
- 12:41the old school NCAA, right? You have the one safety have two
- 12:45safeties that are 99 and one backup is a 90, and a 92, and
- 12:49he's your backup and both and then the red shirt freshman, you
- 12:52just put us third string but I also wonder if Jalen strowman
- 12:57and Walker aren't pushing him to where it was to a point.
- 13:00We can't see it. Is it to a point where I'm not
- 13:03even really 3D now like I'm 40 I'm five deep like these guys
- 13:07have caught me and have passed me and I would think more so
- 13:12that's the case because even if tase your 1A 1B you still have
- 13:16potential to be that next man up.
- 13:18So you're one injury away from at least seeing rotational
- 13:22duties. So yeah.
- 13:22It be it could be that that Stroman had Asked him even on
- 13:26the depth chart as far as boundary safety is concerned and
- 13:32that would definitely put him in a situation where he really
- 13:35would struggle to get on the field.
- 13:37This season are and, you know, catastrophic injury situation at
- 13:41that position. Yep, that's true.
- 13:44All right. So the last piece of happy or
- 13:47bad news happy. I don't know depending on who
- 13:50you are but yeah this was this one's going to depend on
- 13:54perspective. If exactly Bode Davidson
- 13:58officially today, is now director of recruiting at Texas
- 14:02Tech. Apparently, getting a handsome
- 14:06pay. Raise also, getting to where he
- 14:08is about three hours from family.
- 14:10Both of he and his wife. Congratulations for him on that
- 14:15for us, we don't have a director recruiting but he had only been
- 14:18in the position three months when John yet see officially
- 14:21step down. So he kind of has guided the
- 14:24ship the last three months. Very good commitments.
- 14:27You give him credit for that because when you're the
- 14:29director, that is partially, your job.
- 14:33Now, the argument is now going. We need higher in season well as
- 14:39somebody pointed out yesterday. Well, we're in Dead period.
- 14:42You can't do anything anyway. So do you really need a
- 14:45director? I don't think we do.
- 14:50I think you just let whoever is on staff kind of run the ship
- 14:53where only if you know, we're only a few two months from
- 14:56Signing Day you. Let them got it in versus trying
- 14:59to teach someone on the Fly. What about you?
- 15:03This one's difficult because I think in terms of timing, I
- 15:07think if you're going to lose your director of recruiting,
- 15:11probably, this is one of the better times to do it because
- 15:14you're far enough along in the 22 cycle where he's not the guy
- 15:20that's really working with those relationships anymore.
- 15:24It's more in the hands of the coaches, the other Personnel on
- 15:28the staff. It's, he's not really as
- 15:30Hands-On on those things anymore.
- 15:34Second, you're not really into the 23 cycle proper yet. the
- 15:40only concern is getting someone in that can kind of hit the
- 15:44ground running to make sure that we don't fall behind getting
- 15:49getting those names in establishing those relationships
- 15:52early at our, the enough of the cycle where we feel like we're
- 15:54placing ourselves in a position heading into the 2022, calendar
- 16:01year, where we can actually, you know, close some of those, you
- 16:04know, once February March, and April hit, which is when we do
- 16:08you really start seeing Those first big round of commitments
- 16:11come through for the next cycle. Absolutely.
- 16:15And you know what was a Texas guy and you know he he gets a
- 16:20bad rap of what happened in Virginia and and we don't know
- 16:26that stuff we don't know from behind the scenes, we don't know
- 16:28his involvement with how much Virginia was pushed.
- 16:31How much Texas was pushed? He seems like an Enthusiast, no
- 16:36Texas was push, heavy breathing heavily.
- 16:37We actually, we don't know to what degree Virginia was given
- 16:42the short change as As a result of that true we don't, and we
- 16:47never know. And unless you talk with him
- 16:51and, you know, this was the kind of a fun thing to see on Twitter
- 16:56yesterday. Brian people are like well, who
- 16:58wants to be the new director of recruiting?
- 17:00And I saw like Vegas Robinson, and some people call me.
- 17:02I'll do it. I'll do it positions like that,
- 17:06and this is no disrespect to anybody.
- 17:09Positions like that. You aren't just given off the
- 17:13street. Bo Davidson had essentially
- 17:18worked as a ga or in some type of capacity role for 14 years
- 17:23before he got that opportunity and I know guys move up and down
- 17:27faster and I see a lot of people.
- 17:28Something I can do really good relationships here.
- 17:30And they were, as director of recruiting, you can't actually
- 17:33go do the relationships there, you can, too.
- 17:36It's NCAA. You can't you can be from the
- 17:38no.4 have the greatest relationship with with Highland
- 17:42Springs with piranha with Manchester with every school.
- 17:46Cool. This is this is what you're
- 17:48doing. You call them and there's only
- 17:50so many times you can talk to the kids.
- 17:53Director of recruiting is essentially putting the game
- 17:56plan in place. So when I see guys saying we can
- 18:00do this in this, the guys who are interested in doing that, my
- 18:05suggestion, Rob. And this would be, I'd love to
- 18:08see these guys do that. And one of the guys in Richmond,
- 18:11did it Davon Morgan create football camps Hopkins,
- 18:15brothers. Did it.
- 18:18Get the kids in Camp, if you want to push them to Virginia
- 18:20Tech because you bring them in, you teach them something.
- 18:23And then potentially, you take them to Blacksburg that would
- 18:26like a recruiting is a whole different story.
- 18:30It's a different ball game. And I'll say this, I would love
- 18:34to have someone in that role. That's either a former player or
- 18:38a graduate that has the passion for the school year.
- 18:42I think you absolutely 100% need that.
- 18:45And that's one thing that both probably did not bring to the
- 18:47table. Will he not, not, not the
- 18:49greatest understanding of you know Virginia high schools and
- 18:53what which high schools are important.
- 18:55But also the passion for, you know, everybody Blacksburg Feels
- 19:00Like Home to pretty much everyone that goes there.
- 19:02I get that. But there's a, there's a big
- 19:05difference between living that and experiencing that after the
- 19:08fact and having someone that is an alumni or played for the
- 19:15Hokies, would certainly be an Asset.
- 19:18That's not to say that you can throw any former player in that
- 19:21role and expect to Bear the fruit.
- 19:24I think that I think that's a very gross overstatement of what
- 19:28the director of recruiting does and you know if the guys are
- 19:31really interested like that now to me there are There are two
- 19:36guys actually take that three guys, former Hokies who are on
- 19:40the path that they wanted a position like that.
- 19:43Dave ons down at enh engine after he did his camps up here.
- 19:48You've got rock Carmichael's up in.
- 19:50Michigan coaching High School football?
- 19:52I think it is actually a Preparatory Academy.
- 19:54Instead he Whitley up to J mu now home.
- 19:57You think about what they're doing?
- 19:58They're not doing recruiting. They are doing on field
- 20:01coaching. Is that the path they take.
- 20:03We don't know if you ask my personal opinion right now, To
- 20:08me Pearson Prelude. I think could get in that role
- 20:14in absolutely dominate. Here's a, a tool is an
- 20:17All-American at Virginia Tech. He knows the culture Pearson
- 20:21praying, Lou coached and Raptor. I think he's been on the staff
- 20:24long enough to and Player Development to understand the
- 20:26state of Virginia, but I also think he understands would
- 20:29understand the whole footprint of recruiting.
- 20:33He played lead 10 years. I mean, why not piercing, you
- 20:39know what I mean? I can't really think of a.
- 20:42If you're looking for an on staff candidate, that isn't
- 20:46Moaning someone that's already working on the recruiting staff.
- 20:50Yeah, Pearson would be the number one choice in my book.
- 20:54Just because having that former player aspect NFL pedigree
- 21:00understanding Super Bowl ring Super Bowl ring.
- 21:02Yeah, understanding things and, you know he under I think he
- 21:07understands what kind of built the Hokies huh?
- 21:11When he was there and understands what it's going to
- 21:14take to kind of get that type of been Eyetality back and it
- 21:18starts with winning the state. I mean, you can say what it
- 21:21said, what you want we absolutely need to have a
- 21:24footprint that's wider than what we had in Beamers are.
- 21:27Oh it can't, it can't just be mostly Virginia and then a
- 21:31handful of kids from Florida, but you need to still put your
- 21:36flag in your state and say now you're not getting all these all
- 21:41these top 10 State kids. We're going to get at least to a
- 21:44cycle, maybe three years. Cycle.
- 21:48And until we start doing that, it's still going to be a
- 21:53struggling, we've done better this year but this should be
- 21:57kind of the the low average not the heights, you know I'm
- 22:02saying? Well I'll hundred percent.
- 22:04This is this is what this is, what we would expect yearly like
- 22:08an average recruiting cycle is kind of what we're looking this
- 22:11year, doing the top 10 multiple in the top 15 multiple in the
- 22:15top for me. This will be have urge what we'd
- 22:18like to see is obviously mean you would be like root of 4 in
- 22:22the top 10 6 Plus in the top 15. And if we're going to recruit 25
- 22:28kids ate in the top 25, essentially absolutely 30% on
- 22:33the top, 25 kids. Should be coming to Virginia
- 22:41Tech in Virginia so you know, that's our feel on that.
- 22:44Anything else to add on this one?
- 22:45Brian before we roll on I say I'm with Tally who I just threw
- 22:49the the common up there. We should be right at or in the
- 22:54top 20 every year in every five years, we should be dropping a
- 22:58top-15 class. If we want to get to where we
- 23:01want to get, which is winning. The ACC somewhat consistently
- 23:05and competing for a college football.
- 23:07Playoff Mission. Absolutely, that's what we have
- 23:10to do. 100% but we've only done one, top 15, class.
- 23:17Ever since the rankings have come out now, maybe you go back
- 23:19and say, well, they should have readjusted some of those because
- 23:23they completely whiffed. Well, we'll see about that
- 23:26later. All right.
- 23:27Let's keep the well, let's get to the Happy Times.
- 23:29Happy Times nappy time y'all. We got a commitment.
- 23:35He is a composite for star. He is a top 50 Corner in the
- 23:43country. He's a top 300 player.
- 23:46Cam Johnson of the st. Frances Academy in Baltimore 6
- 23:50foot, 165 Corner Brown. What do you think of Cam?
- 23:54I really like this a lot. I like, getting back into
- 23:58Maryland. I like this guy's attributes
- 24:01that can bring to the table. Good size, right out the gate
- 24:05moves. Well turns his hips.
- 24:07Well, doesn't shy away from contact, either.
- 24:10From the film I've seen, so all around a really good pick up and
- 24:14hopefully we can we can close the deal and getting through
- 24:16Signing Day. Yeah definitely going to keep a
- 24:19definite going to be a fight with him.
- 24:21I'm obviously I think it was us in Maryland as the finalists but
- 24:24But really good pickup. Really good landing.
- 24:28And, you know, we're still hanging onto like, 15th 13th or
- 24:3212th with 24/7, even with it. Because when Simmons came on and
- 24:38he can't come as one off, he came on.
- 24:40We literally stayed at the same spot because they were very
- 24:42quickly rank very close. Yeah, very close.
- 24:44I think 24/7 was pretty much a Pick'em between, but cams
- 24:49composite is a little bit higher.
- 24:52Even though, we like 24/7 better, he's a There.
- 24:55But I think they'll get a bump. I think right now.
- 24:58But as we get into the season, if you just look we're
- 25:01recruiting is I don't think we're going to follow me.
- 25:04I don't think we're going to fall to 30 because if you start
- 25:08going through there's only so many teams that are going to be
- 25:11able to add more. Are there going to be some
- 25:13Elites that passed us? Yes that's going to happen.
- 25:16Are there going to be some top 15 teams?
- 25:18Currently that passes? Yeah but I don't think it's
- 25:20going to be enough because we still are probably going to pick
- 25:23up anywhere from three to four more.
- 25:24Or one we talked about earlier is a pretty highly ranked guy
- 25:28which is going to help us even more.
- 25:30I don't see it as follow. Do you think we're going to be
- 25:32in the 30s? Or do you think we're going to
- 25:34have a 2 next? Our number at the end?
- 25:37I think we're going to be kind of where we typically are, which
- 25:40is somewhere between 25 and 30. I don't think we're going to
- 25:43drop into the 30s in. A lot of this is going to depend
- 25:48on what happens in the season and immediately following the
- 25:52season. So I'll put that In there.
- 25:55But if things roll through say, we finish like eight, and four
- 26:03staff is retained, you know, whatever it is.
- 26:06I think we finish somewhere between 25 and 30 things go,
- 26:11south other big changes are made.
- 26:14Then obviously, all bets are off exactly.
- 26:17Well, the whole piece I'll say, is this, I don't think it was so
- 26:19much far, south after what happened last year, even with
- 26:23the codes. Now after I mean, For real.
- 26:25Like what I mean, how much worse can it, get glad that they're
- 26:28also, they're even with all that turmoil.
- 26:31There wasn't a whole lot of movement towards the for
- 26:34Designing day. So what exactly?
- 26:37I think I think barring an actual change in regime.
- 26:41Your we were probably looking at not not too much of a drop-off,
- 26:45very true, very true. Alright so next what we're going
- 26:48to look at here, I put my beer down and make the announcement
- 26:50for I have a set of the Hockey Hall of Fame was announced lots
- 26:54of I played we're going to focus on the three hokey football
- 26:58players. Let's start.
- 26:59Brian with Tyrone. Drake Ford, someone essentially
- 27:02from our use, someone actually connections to our hometown.
- 27:07I know she's probably not listening but I'll still shout
- 27:09out. Maybe somebody else, say heard
- 27:11you on Facebook, the other night, Brenda best cousin,
- 27:14Tyrone Drake, furred Corner. Played a tech in the 90s.
- 27:19A hell of a football player was drafted by the Niners, won a
- 27:23ring with the Niners played up to 2001 one of those original.
- 27:29One of the original guys, that started the DB you man.
- 27:33Yeah, I mean, this is a big one for you because I'd say really
- 27:37all three of these guys that we're going to talk about our
- 27:39kind of big for us in general. But this one for you with with
- 27:43the 49ers tie in there one. But yeah, I mean Tyrone Jennifer
- 27:47was kind of the the 0 g of D bu here and nothing.
- 27:53But good things to say about it. Time in Blacksburg.
- 27:55And it was one of those guys, as you mentioned, when we were,
- 27:58first, first turning on the television by choice to follow
- 28:02the Hokies, that was the name we heard.
- 28:06And that we love seeing making plays so exactly.
- 28:09We were younger were probably nine, ten.
- 28:11We were starting to get our cognitive stuff together.
- 28:15And essentially, he was, you say, what you want to say?
- 28:18He got drafted in 94. So he was a literally part of
- 28:22the team that saved Beamers career.
- 28:25If guys like Drake for it, aren't there guys, like,
- 28:28Maurice, deshazo aren't there in 93?
- 28:32We who knows what happens to the program.
- 28:35Now buddy? The next two guys, this was our
- 28:39Heyday. This was a hey dark man.
- 28:42My heart with the X-Men Xavier adibi.
- 28:51From down a phoebius down in Hampton.
- 28:54I mean my favorite defensive player from that era other than
- 28:58Darryl Tapp. So it's I mean, it's and then
- 29:04you can have the argument is he's the greatest backer of all
- 29:07times. People can fight, you can fight
- 29:08with him and Tremaine, you know, but you know it goes back in.
- 29:16This is again guys. You know, you played in the
- 29:18league for years. He was all ACC was All-American
- 29:22in 07 and he was just one of those guys.
- 29:25You were hauling a DB and you know it goes back again.
- 29:32It was during our Heyday, he was a freak dip.
- 29:37A frequent linebacker for his time and I'm trying to think of
- 29:41what play. Was it brown was it that energy
- 29:43was one of the interceptions we've talked about on here
- 29:45before. I know I'm drawing a blanket as
- 29:51well. I wish you would, but how many
- 29:54plays he made? So awesome.
- 29:56This guy getting home? Yep.
- 29:59You know, and obviously he was again, one of the what's Brother
- 30:07set of Brothers. Yep, man, you played before he
- 30:10follow the ante up. It's so it's it keeps going on.
- 30:15Yeah, I mean so when when I think Hall in the DB I mean that
- 30:19was that was like one of my favorite areas for this defense
- 30:23because Hall was solid always there.
- 30:25And then a DV was like he was just the playmaker, he was all
- 30:29over the field, he was getting interceptions, he was breaking
- 30:32up passes, he was completely knocking the shit out of guy.
- 30:36As if they were trying to get outside of the edge.
- 30:39I mean, just watching those two was awesome and a DV was
- 30:42definitely one of my favorites of those those 2000s teams that
- 30:47were just so good. Absolutely.
- 30:50And I mean, they were part of literally the defenses that were
- 30:55number one in the nation that were holding those two light
- 30:57eight points that we used to screen if we can have a decent
- 31:02bleep and offense, we will win Idol.
- 31:06Just just too. Just so you know how nasty is?
- 31:08That was 266, tackles 25 tackles for loss nine, nine sacks.
- 31:17He had eight picks as a middle linebacker and really three
- 31:20years playing full-time. That's nuts.
- 31:23Oh, all right. So finally folks we're going to
- 31:26hit my local here to the r-va Victor, too Macho Harris out of
- 31:34Highland Springs va mean. One of them, was it the first
- 31:42five-star landed first five-star landed right?
- 31:46Was Mikey, I think. In, man, he was a lockdown
- 31:50Corner in every sense of the word, multiple Ace, multiple,
- 31:57all-acc, feel like, I don't want to say, he was an All-American
- 32:02to. It's not telling me that here,
- 32:04but also, you know, a little little background here coach.
- 32:10Well, Hometown friend of ours, Charlie Crittenden.
- 32:15He actually coached me my sophomore year.
- 32:18Year of high school offensive line making grad.
- 32:23So I won't hold that against him but he he was coaching Macho
- 32:29when he was in high school at the Highland Spring.
- 32:32So I remember hearing about this, this Macho Harris guy
- 32:37before, some other folks are ready for it.
- 32:40But Just the number one. Like there's there's so much
- 32:46Swagger that Macho brought to the to the to the to the feel,
- 32:50their got the offensive defensive and special teams
- 32:55touchdown. I mean that that's still like
- 32:59that's something that that just doesn't happen every day.
- 33:02I mean, nothing but good things that could be said about macho
- 33:05man. Yeah, two guys.
- 33:07Did it Macho Andy Hall. Yep.
- 33:09That's it. And they any was Special special
- 33:12athlete. And, you know, it's great to see
- 33:17these guys. I don't know when they'll be
- 33:18inducted. I probably find it on the
- 33:20schedule. Depending on that game is we
- 33:24don't have to Circle that one. Brian to go up to visit.
- 33:28Yeah, that'd be a good one. I might be a good one.
- 33:30All right, so next thing we're going to look at here, folks,
- 33:33and we're rolling right along as fast as we can.
- 33:36He is. We are going to look at the ACC
- 33:38Corona policies this year. Last year was really they go 07
- 33:46Macho at Clemson very devil. All right so here are the kind
- 33:50of the three guidelines. Most match, the other
- 33:53conferences of the third one's a little different.
- 33:55First one is if a game cannot be played on its original.
- 33:58Scheduled date due to a team have an instant of an
- 34:01insufficient number of people due to the covid-19 virus that
- 34:06team will forfeit. The game in the wind will be
- 34:10assigned to the other team. Everybody's doing it makes
- 34:13sense, right? Yep.
- 34:14Makes sense. Yep.
- 34:16Second one, if the ACC game cannot be played on the date for
- 34:21any Factor. Other than that in there are
- 34:24game discontinuation circumstances.
- 34:27I'm a little Tsum. That would be like, hurricanes
- 34:30coming through, you know, other factors potentially medical
- 34:34factors, something like that. Those games essentially, Looking
- 34:39at a potential reschedule. So basically, anything freak
- 34:45over the could get cancelled and rescheduled, it would be
- 34:47cancelled and rescheduled. Yep, the third one is the most
- 34:50interesting one. No other conference has this.
- 34:55I'm going to read this verbatim. If a 2021 ACC game, cannot be
- 34:59played on its original scheduled a due to both team being able to
- 35:03play due to an insufficient. Number of players related to the
- 35:07covid-19 virus. Both teams, shall be have demon.
- 35:11Forfeited, the Forfeited the game.
- 35:14And a loss will be assigned to both teams and apply to the
- 35:16conference standings double L's 12w hell's.
- 35:22So that's exactly what you want to hear double else.
- 35:25I mean I'm sure they're going to be
- 35:42Nobody's getting anything. It essentially applies, the
- 35:46pressure across the board. It's not just, you know, it's
- 35:51not just a game of chicken. Like if you both can't play,
- 35:53Then you both get the L. Love it, love it.
- 35:57So, there are the policies based on kind of what you're seeing
- 36:03from throughout college football, all the players are
- 36:06over, 95 percent threshold. Most teams Virginia Tech hasn't
- 36:11confirmed, but I don't, Think they'll ever be able to confirm?
- 36:13100% mode themes, are probably between 97 and 99.
- 36:18It might be a few guys here and there medical reasons, and or
- 36:21religious purposes. Not, you know, vaccinated in
- 36:27your fine. Exactly.
- 36:30Jay bernzy for shout-out SS cause more Coastal chaos.
- 36:35So there's gonna be like three of them, right?
- 36:37Yep. So that's what the coastal does.
- 36:39All right, Brian. I mean I mean this the coastal's
- 36:42already, I mean, it's already going to be interesting because
- 36:45you feel like you got a tier one and then you got a tear to, but
- 36:48there's not a huge gap. I don't think a little bit
- 36:52margin for error. Can can really throw things into
- 36:55a tailspin there and put probably four or five teams in
- 36:59play for the coastal going into the later part of November
- 37:03there. Exactly.
- 37:05All right. So we're going to hit our first
- 37:07big topic of the night. The Yesterday from the ACC, the
- 37:11Big Ten in the Pac-12 about their Alliance Brian.
- 37:15Before we get into some individual points, me and you
- 37:17have kind of, pulled out. What was your overall field on a
- 37:22jeweler? All feel?
- 37:25Well, the first time I heard about it, I could all I could
- 37:27think about was Dwight asking Jim if you wanted to form an
- 37:30alliance and to, which either the response is absolutely, I
- 37:36do. Yeah, my first thought was, I
- 37:41think this I wouldn't consider this as a power move.
- 37:46This isn't a power move, but this is a, this is a move about
- 37:49viability and survival in what looks to be a very uncertain.
- 37:54Next, several years in terms of realignment and things of that
- 37:59nature. So I don't think a partnership
- 38:02can hurt. I just, we'll get into it, but
- 38:06I'm not sure exactly how much it's helping other than
- 38:10potentially looking at the scheduling aspect of it.
- 38:14Yeah. We're going to we're going to go
- 38:17into couple times. I think it's a leverage play
- 38:19because I think. Now, if you've got three
- 38:21Commissioners on board Any sort of NCAA rulings any sort of
- 38:26college football playoff, they're going to have leverage,
- 38:29right? They've got more institutions,
- 38:31and they've got more power because we have three
- 38:34conferences, and it's essentially at the SEC is like
- 38:38cool. You've got the two big boys, but
- 38:40you're still one conference. So you don't hold all the cards
- 38:44versus if if they had kept Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 and
- 38:49just said, hey we're forming a partnership.
- 38:50We're going to play is everybody's going to play at
- 38:53least one cross. Conference game every year.
- 38:55Drop it at that. All right, let's jump into the
- 38:57first thing Ron. The first thing I kind of caught
- 39:01my ear listening this yesterday is they said, 41 schools.
- 39:06Let's do math Brian. There's 14 ACC schools.
- 39:09Yep, there's 14. Big Ten schools.
- 39:13Yep. There's 12 pack 12 schools, that
- 39:16equals 40. So what does that tell you who
- 39:20is the plus one? Well that plus 1 is going to be
- 39:23more than likely Notre. Dame.
- 39:27So mainly and I say that because this Alliance was talking about
- 39:32football and Hoops Partnerships. So by default they were they
- 39:36might have been thrown in there so it'll be interesting to see
- 39:38what that really means for football.
- 39:41But the fact that it's 41 definitely means that Notre Dame
- 39:44is in play there. Yeah you got swarbrick on the
- 39:47cfp model. Also, the other thing I'm going
- 39:50to say is this, I don't know how long the contract is and if
- 39:53somebody out there wants to look it up and put it in a message to
- 39:56us, do it, Notre Dame is contracted to play five, ACC
- 40:00games a year. Five, if you start looking at
- 40:05their other primary rival throughout time, Navy's warm you
- 40:10up at 6:00 Purdue Michigan State.
- 40:16Northwestern Michigan have been their primary Rivals.
- 40:21The Michigan series is weird, but you're doing Michigan State.
- 40:23Were there every year that gets you up to about nine or ten
- 40:29every year? Give or take and then West Coast
- 40:32wise, they always played USC and Stanford.
- 40:34Yep. If for no other reason, they're
- 40:36getting into. This is will keep our five ACC
- 40:39games. We can get back on track with
- 40:42the big 10 games and we've got our West Coast game.
- 40:44Eames we assume we think that the only thing they would for
- 40:47they would balk at, you know, looking at is, all right.
- 40:52So we're playing schedule-wise they would probably be on the
- 40:58upper end of the Spectrum in terms of strength of schedule.
- 41:01Yeah, maybe. Yeah.
- 41:03Every year. Yeah.
- 41:06Now granted if they stay independent while adopting this
- 41:09model, they probably will need that strength of schedule to
- 41:12make their case for a playoff position every year.
- 41:17But again, being involved with it.
- 41:19It's going to be a lot easier to just go in there and say, we're
- 41:22going to play five in the ACC, we're going to play a few in the
- 41:24Big Ten, we're going to find the few and the Pac-12.
- 41:27Essentially, let us be your one of your games every year and
- 41:32hate to say this not hate to say this no team is going to turn
- 41:37down a series or a game with Notre Dame.
- 41:40It is too much money, it's either you're getting National
- 41:44exposure on NBC or if, if You are getting them at home.
- 41:52A your home stadium is going to sell out.
- 41:56The secondary ticket prices are going to be insane.
- 41:59The hotel room rates are going to go insane.
- 42:01You're going to make a lot of money that weekend, but also
- 42:04your normally, and again, I say normally because this year, they
- 42:07bleeped it all up. Although it seems like there's
- 42:10about to be a deal between Comcast and ESPN to get the ACC
- 42:14Network on your Glimpse. Hope we did get the, we did get
- 42:17the oh, we made a mistake line with all the other the other
- 42:21night we made a mistake. We actually put a cc Rooming on
- 42:26the SEC secondary Channel. Yes, that was a test to make
- 42:31sure they could get it done, but you're going to get a prime-time
- 42:34game with them and every team wants that exposure.
- 42:39Alright Braun. You mentioned it football and
- 42:41Hoops Partnerships. We think.
- 42:48I mean, they're definitely targeting the sports that are
- 42:52bringing in the money so that I mean that that's.
- 42:56Probably what this is all about because more or less any sort of
- 43:00realignment in any sort of major votes are going to hinge on
- 43:04those two sports. Great, very true, very true.
- 43:09So that that's why it's strategically position for those
- 43:13who supports that that's the ones bringing in money.
- 43:15That's the ones where these decisions matter in terms of
- 43:20dollars at the end of the day, right?
- 43:23Oh yeah, dollars by the end of the day.
- 43:26Now they mentioned a few other sports as well, you know, Pac-12
- 43:33and Big Ten Women's Volleyball is its exception.
- 43:36I've watched a couple big ten games before but then you kind
- 43:41of think about think about a Virginia Tech, secondary sport,
- 43:44that's not football or basketball.
- 43:47Think about wrestling in potentially getting meets with
- 43:51Big Ten, where you've got Iowa in State Minnesota, some really
- 43:58essentially, like Virginia Tech's the top 10 program,
- 44:01you've got multiple top five programs there.
- 44:04Yeah, and then, I think West Coast, What's the second?
- 44:10What's it? What's the next big?
- 44:12Secondary sport in the ACC behind football and baseball?
- 44:15No disrespect to wrestling is baseball.
- 44:18Yep. In the Pac-12 has always had
- 44:21them. Good baseball.
- 44:24Absolutely absolutely. Now, as we look at it, the way
- 44:30they are and this is where you sign to get the.
- 44:32Well, this is just a bunch of punk bullcrap, you know, the
- 44:36schedule. A this is where the fluff
- 44:38begins. Let me do this.
- 44:40Let's turn it backwards. The schedule lines will begin as
- 44:43soon as practical while current obligations are being upheld.
- 44:48Okay. That's basically saying it's TV
- 44:51contracts and it's probably really It's more probably the
- 44:58Pac-12 when they get that opportunity it's going to be
- 45:02what 2023 is when there's ends. That's when the that's when
- 45:06you're going to see it. Start leveraging when you know,
- 45:10they say, hey how about this year?
- 45:12How about USC? Give me a good Big Ten team, run
- 45:17USC plays. State by the state in a
- 45:22horseshoe for in the Coliseum. All right Washington really good
- 45:26up in the upper Northwest hey we want to play FSU.
- 45:31That's when you're going to start seeing them, leverage to
- 45:33say, we are getting in place. Name brand teams to bring on to
- 45:40Fox Sports that we're not seeing because of their current
- 45:44contract with ESPN. I'll tell you what's funny
- 45:46though and I know in this is just unfortunate timing because
- 45:49I'm sure these discussions have been in works way before the
- 45:52alliance. Yeah.
- 45:53But today USC announce that at Lear at LSU their schedule we're
- 45:58going to 2024. Yeah that's so again it's
- 46:03absolutely those discussions have been going on way before
- 46:05the alliance stuff started. It, the timing could not have
- 46:08been a worse for saying, hey, we've got a handshake agreement
- 46:12here that, you know, we're in this together.
- 46:15And then the next thing, you know, you get a scheduled
- 46:18opponent with an SEC team. So let's just say, when all this
- 46:22comes from Russian in 2024, that USC will be asking to play
- 46:26either Wake Forest for what thirsty.
- 46:32No. No, we good.
- 46:33We won't. We won't want to them.
- 46:34We don't need your fucking fucked.
- 46:35Our PR, exactly giving you the donut the exact, let me ask this
- 46:41Bond. So big 10 PAC, 12 said they were
- 46:43very you know open to the idea of a playoff expansion.
- 46:47Jim Phillips new ACC commissioner said well you know
- 46:51we're really landed on the final decision yet.
- 46:53You think that's him being legitimate or do you think
- 46:56that's more leverage play to say if one of us isn't happy?
- 47:00We're going to all reconsider I think he's hedging.
- 47:06I mean I think at this point being non-committal gives him
- 47:09the opportunity to kind of go where the wind is taking the
- 47:13situation. Yeah I don't necessarily think
- 47:16that's A bad decision, but at the same time, I would have
- 47:21wanted. I would have wanted more
- 47:24definitive Direction. I'd rather I'd like the ACC to
- 47:26take a little bit more of a leadership role in this thing
- 47:30and I feel like hunting on that kind of takes away some of their
- 47:36their power later on to to be a strong player in whatever the
- 47:40final decision is, what do you think?
- 47:42It's because right now they're saying what the top six A
- 47:47Champions. Yeah, that was the Assumption
- 47:50there was going to be a power 5, you think that's maybe that's
- 47:52the reason they're holding to say if the Big 12 can get their
- 47:56bleep together and get some other current.
- 48:00I think the concern is that if you only have four major
- 48:04conferences, you don't do 60 that that that that's going to
- 48:08open up more opportunities for sec to take more of those at
- 48:12large spaces in the playoff. Which Removes some of the power
- 48:18that the Big Ten, the ACC in the Pac-12 have in terms of getting
- 48:23revenue from the college football playoff, I'll tell you
- 48:25what's going to happen. Michael Yost is going to stumble
- 48:29onto his conviction of a, be incorrect because the acc's and
- 48:32you're like for Conference champions.
- 48:34And for our, you're still going to end up with three of those
- 48:39eight being SEC every year. I don't know because I think at
- 48:43that point I think there's going to be a lot of different
- 48:45criteria and that's what we hope.
- 48:48So, I hope that there's not just I mean we're still early in
- 48:53this, I know I put my my flag in the ground for 12 but I put my
- 48:56flag in the ground for 12 before.
- 48:59There was any talk of Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 for
- 49:02the SEC and other realignment things.
- 49:06And this definitely makes me want to re-evaluate that a
- 49:09little bit. I still think 12 overall is good
- 49:13for the overall health of college football, but with fewer
- 49:16power 5, Potentially fewer power five conferences.
- 49:20It definitely kind of changes that outset because you are
- 49:25going to have more power 5 at largest by default.
- 49:29Absolutely. Alright, next piece with the no
- 49:33contract piece when they said that, what did you think?
- 49:39I'll be out. I Love handshake agreements as
- 49:42much as the next person but I guess getting it in writing.
- 49:47Is it possible? At this time?
- 49:49Just because there's a lot of moving pieces, and it's better
- 49:51to Better to have something verbal, until we know a little
- 49:56bit more than we know right now. Our.
- 50:01That's just my take. Did you read hokey Andrews?
- 50:05Tweet. I did.
- 50:06And that that was a good point as well because he was talking
- 50:09about Market collusion and price-fixing.
- 50:12If you've got any Apple conferences, essentially ganging
- 50:17up on another conference in terms of wedging them out from a
- 50:21financial perspective or nice, making a power play against them
- 50:25from a financial perspective. And I think that's probably the
- 50:28reason why again you got three guys.
- 50:30Who are attorneys that are doing this.
- 50:33And I'm sure their first thought was, well, hey, we can do an
- 50:36agreement contract or somebody probably said, yeah.
- 50:39And if the SEC filed an antitrust lawsuit against his
- 50:42guess, what they're going to win?
- 50:44So they're going to break this up before it even started or
- 50:47it's not going to be economically feasible for us to
- 50:49try to win it and we'll use figure out exactly what will
- 50:53essentially be back where we are.
- 50:54Anyway, exactly. So I think that was maybe I
- 50:58think it's more, it doesn't look good.
- 51:00I think if you start thinking about it, it's like that makes
- 51:03sense right now is they're on the same page.
- 51:06It's more of the voting thing. Like, you know, how many times
- 51:11do you have things you vote on whether it be social, you know,
- 51:14you know, social organizations or other things?
- 51:18That's go back to thinking SGA and stuff like that, or even
- 51:22maybe neighborhood Council where it's, like, you're voting this
- 51:26way, right? We're all going to vote this way
- 51:29because we don't want that to happen.
- 51:30Happen. And they're going to try to make
- 51:31that happen. It would it all six of us vote
- 51:34against it. They can't.
- 51:36And if it's a handshake agreement, they can't sue you
- 51:39for anything. All right?
- 51:40Yeah. It's the old, I mean, it's the
- 51:43old backdoor Arrangement like you, you know, it's not, it's
- 51:47not anything formal but it's so it's on the, it's so close to
- 51:50being formal that by de facto. It is the same outcomes come
- 51:55into place, and hopefully they'll able to keep that
- 51:59together. And like I said, I would, I
- 52:02would want the ACC to take a little bit more of a leadership
- 52:06role on this. Especially in terms of what the
- 52:10playoff is going to look like. Because I feel like that's going
- 52:12to be the biggest piece of the financial puzzle long-term
- 52:16become. So hopefully hopefully there's a
- 52:19little bit more information about that.
- 52:21Yeah. And again the playoff piece also
- 52:24two of these network, two of these conferences have their
- 52:27primary ganger on Fox Fox is not in it right now.
- 52:34So you know what? I think any coffee of expansion
- 52:38while in the next few years is not.
- 52:40They're going to vote it down, right?
- 52:41No. Because I think what they want
- 52:43to do is, let it get out there and get fitted by.
- 52:46I think boxes telling the Pac-12 on that.
- 52:49It's probably right, just vote. No just vote.
- 52:52No, because when he gets here we're going to go after it hard.
- 52:55And maybe hopefully what we can get is more of a split playoff
- 53:01where we see multiple TV entities handle it versus just
- 53:06ESPN. And all right, so we kind of
- 53:10mentioned it already. The Big 12, they all mentioned
- 53:13the importance of keeping that conference alive to your point,
- 53:16Braun Playoff right? If you can have them be viable,
- 53:21you have a fifth playoff team. Yeah.
- 53:25And they're going to, they're gonna have to do some work to
- 53:28remain viable. They cannot hold Pat and and
- 53:33hope for survival. You've lost your two, biggest
- 53:38Revenue dogs in your conference, true.
- 53:42And that's it. We're going to be and it's going
- 53:46to be interesting weather. Whether Texas and Oklahoma
- 53:53decide to pay the buyout to start this thing early, whether
- 53:59they decide to ride it out and hope that the Big 12 olds, so,
- 54:04they can depart early without having to pay the buyout.
- 54:08Or if the Big 12 is able to make some moves with some of these
- 54:13other G5 conferences, potentially or maybe even power
- 54:19five conference has to get Get a team or two to come over to
- 54:23their side of the, the field there because they're going to
- 54:26need something to remain viable. They keep that.
- 54:29I definitely don't think they can just hold their status quo
- 54:32right now for the next three to five years and hope to remain
- 54:35viable. Now, the can't hold status quo
- 54:40but if Texas are Oklahomans used to pay that buyout, it still
- 54:44will take a couple of years of the SEC money to recoup it.
- 54:50Sure, but long game, they can afford it, it's just the
- 54:53question. Do they want to take their
- 54:55short-term loss? Especially coming off of covid?
- 54:58In order to achieve that will? Also, let's just say it.
- 55:03You're also going into, I'm not going to hesitate on.
- 55:06You're going into the strongest conference.
- 55:08What if you go in there and become a 6?
- 55:09And 16, your Brand's done your brand and your brand suffers,
- 55:14but Texas has still been the number one athletic department.
- 55:20In terms of Revenue, while being a fucking middling ass program
- 55:24for the last decade middling ass.
- 55:26Did you think you're going to hear that?
- 55:29All right. Well you know what, this is
- 55:31probably I think what this is my opinion, how the big 12 can
- 55:35somehow make it. They are going to be looked at
- 55:37as the ugly stepsister of the group but you go you look at
- 55:45Central Florida. You look at Cincinnati.
- 55:47Look at Memphis. Look at BYU and you look at
- 55:50Boise and you just invite them and just say whatever happens is
- 55:54what happens and we're going to figure it out from here because
- 55:58at least you have with those five schools they have brains,
- 56:03they are known as they are known to average college football
- 56:06fans. BYU know, we know has a very
- 56:10passionate base. As there's Boise, the other ones
- 56:13are building. You just, you just almost a
- 56:16screw it. This is literally a Hail Mary.
- 56:20Even if we don't score the touchdown and everything
- 56:22happens, perfect, we're going to probably get pass interference.
- 56:26You're going to have the ball down at the one where we're not
- 56:29going to be what we were, but we're not going to become a
- 56:32swak. That for all y'all, Young Folks,
- 56:36go review swaggin. What the fuck happened?
- 56:3830 years ago. Yep, history lesson it's
- 56:42happened before. So when we look at the big 12
- 56:46rbr, they essentially right now kind of what the Big East was
- 56:50after in the early 2000s after the departure of Virginia Tech
- 56:56and Miami. That's exactly what they were
- 56:59and they chose to stand Pat. Right?
- 57:03They didn't try to add teams. They didn't try to build up.
- 57:06We can make it like this and they freaking fell because the
- 57:11teams that had viable decent football program or viable
- 57:15markets just piece like nope because this is not going to
- 57:19work. And in this case, that's why I
- 57:24think you do that. That's why you think you just
- 57:26throw it to the wall and just say this is what we're going to
- 57:29do and have a dollars and cents perspective.
- 57:33This is definitely a bigger blow to the Big 12 than what that was
- 57:36to the Big East much bigger much bigger because I think it's the
- 57:41time frame of where we are. In the early 2000s the contracts
- 57:44went. They weren't what they were.
- 57:47Yep. All right let's hit the last
- 57:49couple topics here. They basically said we're not
- 57:53going to handcuff any other out of conference game so they
- 57:56basically are keeping all your rivalries alive.
- 57:59You know, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina.
- 58:02That's not Shocking because I don't think they're trying to
- 58:04play bully ball. I just think they're trying to
- 58:06hold leverage and say you're not going to run the show.
- 58:10They're trying to hold leverage and then they're trying to
- 58:12create some unique matchups within this to gain that
- 58:16leverage when it comes to college football playoff stuff.
- 58:18Yeah. So we'll still have those maybe
- 58:21even create some new ones. Now the last piece we're going
- 58:25to hit here and this was near the end of it was Pat Club big
- 58:29tender at nine games acc's a date.
- 58:33The way that conversation was flowing by, I don't know if you
- 58:36were watching it live. I truly think and this is why I
- 58:41think you're going to have multiple crossovers year between
- 58:44these two conquer. These three conferences is
- 58:51they're going to have a conference games.
- 58:54We're not going to go up. We're going to go down because
- 58:56what we're going to do, we're going to, we're going to keep
- 58:59going to squeeze the conferences in so we can get these two
- 59:03games, probably one more P5 game and then likely a G5 game.
- 59:08Yep. And I think that's a good move
- 59:10because it gives you the opportunity to work those
- 59:12schedules. Like we were talking about, get
- 59:15the interesting crossover matchups.
- 59:17Get some intriguing college football playoff ramifications.
- 59:21Games with non-traditional opponents.
- 59:25So I think that's going to be good across the board.
- 59:28And then in terms of the conference 8, gains more or less
- 59:31is enough, especially with conferences as large as 14.
- 59:35Yeah, a vs9, does it really change a whole lot?
- 59:40Not a lot. What it helps you do though, is
- 59:43it's going to give you more markets and people are asking
- 59:47why do you do this? If you go out west and you get
- 59:50four more larger TV, Markets. Again, you're expanding your
- 59:54Aces and some people say well that's stupid.
- 59:56Why would Virginia Tech want to try to expand into California?
- 1:00:01Because there's a lot of football players in California.
- 1:00:05It makes sense to the West Coast teams.
- 1:00:07Let's get on the East Coast for the East Coast.
- 1:00:09Let's get on the West Coast. Simply that's the revenue in
- 1:00:12general from the TV money. I mean they're more eyes on it
- 1:00:16on the screen drives that money up, man.
- 1:00:19That's that's what it's all about.
- 1:00:21Dance. Like more games, they get more
- 1:00:23eyes on them. Then that's a good thing.
- 1:00:26There's nothing more intriguing than competitive teams.
- 1:00:30Playing non-traditional opponents in games that fucking
- 1:00:32matter. Bingo buddy.
- 1:00:35All right guys. So before we get further into
- 1:00:38the main topic tonight of us, predicting the hole, Season
- 1:00:42record. We are going to take a quick
- 1:00:44pause for a message from our digital partner.
- 1:00:46All right, buddy, we are back here after our brief break there
- 1:00:51and we're going to get right into the main topic.
- 1:00:55So we're talking about our prediction for the Hokies season
- 1:00:57in 2021. And before we really get into
- 1:01:03what we think on the gains that are that matter, we're going to
- 1:01:07go ahead and put six games in the W column, right?
- 1:01:14Out the gate. We feel like on paper, The Hokey
- 1:01:17should win these games. Barring catastrophic injuries.
- 1:01:20That happened during the season, so that is Middle Tennessee,
- 1:01:25State. University of Richmond,
- 1:01:28Syracuse. Georgia, Tech Duke and UVA.
- 1:01:34Based on what we think about this team.
- 1:01:37We feel like Virginia Tech should handle their business
- 1:01:40against these teams. Yes, we came to a consensus last
- 1:01:45week after talking with Brett getting deeper into pick six,
- 1:01:50previews article reading, some other Publications, kind of
- 1:01:54talking seeing in general. We should win all six of these
- 1:01:57games. if we lose one or potentially multiple of these
- 1:02:03games, heads should roll, In certain people should not be in
- 1:02:08positions. Come roughly, December 8th.
- 1:02:13Thing is the timeframe this year.
- 1:02:15On paper, we match up significantly.
- 1:02:17With all these teams, these teams are all struggling.
- 1:02:20I know everybody keeps telling me, Middle, Tennessee, State,
- 1:02:22and Florida State players. There's a reason Florida State
- 1:02:25players left Florida. State in, did not land at any
- 1:02:28other school, but Middle Tennessee.
- 1:02:30I'm sorry. You can say they're athletic,
- 1:02:32they're great. If they were that great, they
- 1:02:35would have found their way onto a piece.
- 1:02:37Boxing. Do you agree with that run?
- 1:02:39That's a fair assessment. I mean I think they could still
- 1:02:44be what I would consider starting caliber players on
- 1:02:48power 5 schools. I don't think their game
- 1:02:50changers and I think that's the difference there, you know,
- 1:02:54we're not talking about someone that's going to go out there,
- 1:02:58and if they were on a power 5 team, they'd be a potential
- 1:03:03all-conference player. These are guys that if they were
- 1:03:06on a power five Squad, that probably maybe start, maybe a
- 1:03:10rotational player. They're trying to go and be a
- 1:03:13star for a Middle, Tennessee State.
- 1:03:16So that's my assessment. I think you're pretty much spot
- 1:03:20on there. And, you know, we've got several
- 1:03:25other conference teams there that are just, you know, we
- 1:03:29talked about it last week, Syracuse is flailing, Duke is
- 1:03:33awful. Georgia Tech is unpredictable
- 1:03:38and UVA, doesn't have a secondary, and I'm not sure if
- 1:03:43they've got enough defense elsewhere to compensate for it.
- 1:03:46There you go, so there's our assessment.
- 1:03:49So, the go ahead, write that down.
- 1:03:50Everybody. Currently we are at six and up.
- 1:03:56Let's jump buddy, first game of the season, North Carolina.
- 1:04:01I'll let you lead on this one. All you're going to Let Me Lie,
- 1:04:05buddy. Yeah, so we're going to come
- 1:04:07into Lane Stadium next Friday night, 6 p.m.
- 1:04:10ESPN, five and a half Point favorites on the road in the
- 1:04:15terror Dome and I'm sitting here and they're ranked and it got
- 1:04:19Sam. How man he's gonna be a number
- 1:04:22one particular texture. He is all number one, pick,
- 1:04:24great player. I decided to do some math.
- 1:04:28Okay, in this is what I found out.
- 1:04:31So, Michael Carter. Running back.
- 1:04:36Gone. Correct.
- 1:04:37Yep. Devante Williams running back
- 1:04:39gone. Correct.
- 1:04:40Yep. Tommy Brown running back going.
- 1:04:43Correct? Yep.
- 1:04:44City wide receiver wide receiver.
- 1:04:47Dad's new. Some wide receiver going.
- 1:04:49Correct. Correct.
- 1:04:51Are they sitting in the transfer portal or on another team for a
- 1:04:55grad? Transfer year?
- 1:04:59No, they are all in NFL Training Camps.
- 1:05:02All making rosters. By the way, Brian Michael Court
- 1:05:07in the New York Jets is running back.
- 1:05:08Late rounds next. Uh next Tuesday night, ha ha ha.
- 1:05:13So we're drafting next Tuesday. Guess yeah.
- 1:05:15We've got a fan together. All those guys are gone in their
- 1:05:19careers, which primarily is the last two seasons, they made up
- 1:05:2610,000 and 42 yards from scrimmage and eighty three
- 1:05:31touchdowns. All of that is gone.
- 1:05:35I think Bo Corrales is a good receiver.
- 1:05:37I don't think boat Corrales can make up that much production
- 1:05:43along with guys who have really never played. and lastly, last
- 1:05:52week was mentioned that they're returning all five of their
- 1:05:55starters on the offensive line. Well, that's good.
- 1:06:01But when an offensive line gives up sacks, her attempt 104 out,
- 1:06:07120 teams, that ain't great Bob. And without those two Dynamic
- 1:06:12running backs to run that RPO offense I think the Hokies are
- 1:06:17going to shock the world next Friday.
- 1:06:19We'll get into a deeper next week.
- 1:06:22Give me a w to lead off the season run so I am it.
- 1:06:26Stepping it up. Curtis with the Hokie upset to
- 1:06:30lead things off there. Where you at not so fast.
- 1:06:35My friend. Oh man, well, folks.
- 1:06:38Go ahead. Put bribes at 6 and 10 I think I
- 1:06:43think this is going to be a very close game, but I think the
- 1:06:47experience of Sam Howell and the Improvement of that defense and
- 1:06:52probably our offense while not anemic or anything by that
- 1:06:58nature. Taking probably a small step
- 1:07:00back especially in the running game.
- 1:07:02I think we're going to have, we're not going to have the
- 1:07:05ability to put up quite as many points as we were able to
- 1:07:07especially in the second half last year.
- 1:07:10And I think just the experience of how that offensive line and
- 1:07:14that improved defense is going to be enough to get them over
- 1:07:16the hump. So I predict a somewhat high
- 1:07:19scoring game kind of like a 3833 3835 somewhere in that that
- 1:07:26range but I think UNC pulls the W.
- 1:07:28All right, so Brian has just taken the loss at UNC.
- 1:07:31I have a stake in the w. We will get deeper into this
- 1:07:35game next week, folks, who join us back here.
- 1:07:37Same time, and watch it. All right, let's move on.
- 1:07:40On we've already checked at Middle Tennessee State off.
- 1:07:43Now, we're going to go to West Virginia, Braun, what do you
- 1:07:46think happens with the black diamond trophy about a month
- 1:07:50from now? Well, buddy, we are keeping the
- 1:07:55Black Diamond trophy. Go on.
- 1:07:59I think on paper are a better team.
- 1:08:01I think we're going to be able to score enough points against
- 1:08:03this team even with some step back in our offense.
- 1:08:06And I think our improved defense is going to do just enough in
- 1:08:10that raucous atmosphere to pull out a lake w.
- 1:08:15All right. I'm going to dump now.
- 1:08:23I have seven and one I think we lose this game because I think
- 1:08:27the home field advantage is going to be massive for them
- 1:08:30even at a noon kick, which it's going to be.
- 1:08:34I think that is going to be one of the biggest things is, we
- 1:08:37know, from our days of being fans of long time ago.
- 1:08:41When we played every year, that is not a fun place to play, they
- 1:08:45are a bunch of assholes. Throw shit.
- 1:08:48They do a lot of dirty shit. I think they're really burning
- 1:08:51couches, burning couches, but I think they are yearning to get
- 1:08:55that trophy back. They haven't had it in 17 years.
- 1:08:59Now besides that couple other reasons, they lost three really
- 1:09:04key defenders in Tyreke Smith Draiman and Darius Stills
- 1:09:08obviously Darius still, I think everybody knows Derek Stills.
- 1:09:11Were pretty high in the draft was really looked at Harlan
- 1:09:14defensive line, but they still turn a turn.
- 1:09:16Turn a Ton of production on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:09:21So I think that is going to be one thing with the raucous
- 1:09:24crowd. Again, we're not a terrible
- 1:09:26offense, but we're not good enough to probably overcome both
- 1:09:29of those things. Now, one thing that does give me
- 1:09:33pause Is your quarterback Garrett Dodge.
- 1:09:38He is a non-jew threat quarterback so you don't have to
- 1:09:41worry about his legs and he's not a good deep passer of the
- 1:09:47ball. So it's one of those things
- 1:09:52where even though I see us losing, I think a tight game.
- 1:09:57I think a tight game. Right.
- 1:09:59Right now, as we sit, I mean, some you super tight talk to me
- 1:10:02three weeks from now, once we beat Carolina and maybe Middle,
- 1:10:07Tennessee, State. And I'm six beers deep on a
- 1:10:09Wednesday night, maybe I changed my mind.
- 1:10:12But right now, I just don't think it's going to be enough.
- 1:10:15We're probably going to lose like a 35-point game there at
- 1:10:18the moment. Okay Brian.
- 1:10:22Let's go to Notre Dame. You will meet a go.
- 1:10:26You want to go? I'll let you leave this one,
- 1:10:29buddy. You're going to let me leave
- 1:10:31this one, maybe this is the trend here.
- 1:10:34I absolutely toggled with this one back and forth over and over
- 1:10:41and over. And then when I talked with
- 1:10:44bread and we had our conversation with Brett and as
- 1:10:48he discussed, Jack Conte and book, I think Ian book is an
- 1:10:52exceptional, Collegiate quarterback has potential to be
- 1:10:54an NFL quarterback. Be a little bit bigger than arm.
- 1:10:58I think you would have been probably the first two round
- 1:11:00pick with the big piece. That Brent discussing it just
- 1:11:07kept grinding, that me, one of the guys is on the 49ers and
- 1:11:10Arron Banks, one of the guards, they lost four offensive line
- 1:11:13starters. Three of those guys went in the
- 1:11:17first three rounds of the draft. If you're going in the first
- 1:11:20three rounds of the draft, you are either going to be an
- 1:11:23immediate starter and or an immediate swing player
- 1:11:26immediately in the NFL. Yep.
- 1:11:30And you know the total return of production you know, isn't
- 1:11:34terrible on the offense. It's not that bad overall but
- 1:11:41when you lose your quarterback the core of your offensive line
- 1:11:44and you know the Fence, you know, their return, a lot of
- 1:11:48good starters to on the defensive line 2 and line backer
- 1:11:51room. One in the back end.
- 1:11:53They're under Freeman now. So it's, you know, we're going
- 1:11:57to have about a month paper on Freeman before we go into that
- 1:11:59game. You know, like to learn
- 1:12:01multiple, you know, he likes to do things different.
- 1:12:06But I think because of the way our defensive line Looks in the
- 1:12:11first date. I think this is going to be a
- 1:12:15rehash. You ready?
- 1:12:16For the game Run. She's going to rehash of 2019.
- 1:12:21But there's going to be. If you scramble from Braxton
- 1:12:25Burmeister late, I think we look at that game as a one-possession
- 1:12:29a one field goal game but I think when they gets his biggest
- 1:12:33win in the arrow. So right there, I'm at 18 1.
- 1:12:38What about you? I got this one as a loss, as
- 1:12:43well, man. Yeah, and it really comes down
- 1:12:48to a couple factors, it's going to be Karen Williams, Chris
- 1:12:52Tyree, and a defense that returns a lot of production.
- 1:12:57I think Marcus Freeman is going to potentially get even a little
- 1:13:01bit more out of those ranked with running the multiple
- 1:13:05because you're going to see a little bit of a different look
- 1:13:08and offenses, will be able to get comfortable and make any
- 1:13:10keys. And I think there's with the
- 1:13:12returning production, you're not going to see a drop-off in the
- 1:13:15top end level of play for them while.
- 1:13:18I think that's going to be a big impact on their all their
- 1:13:20offense losing you know for multi-year starters three of
- 1:13:26which were draft picks to in the second round.
- 1:13:29One of the third I just I'm not sure if that alone is going to
- 1:13:35be enough for us to get over the hump against them, at that point
- 1:13:38of the Season. All right, well, let me ask
- 1:13:40this. Before we close this down.
- 1:13:42Brian is now seven and two. I made in one good Lord we're
- 1:13:46going to go to the coastal chance.
- 1:13:47We're going with the coastal if I keep going like this, let me
- 1:13:50ask this. Do you see this being a rehash
- 1:13:53of 2019 or 2018? I think it's going to be closer
- 1:14:00to 2090. I think this is definitely a
- 1:14:02close down to the wire game. You're going to see.
- 1:14:04This is an absolute dog fight at night in.
- 1:14:07Yeah, I think we're going to struggle up and down.
- 1:14:10I think we'll be able to move the ball somewhat against them
- 1:14:12but I think we have a hard time finding the end zone and I think
- 1:14:17they're going to have they're gonna hit some big plays against
- 1:14:20us in the running game but they're going to struggle to
- 1:14:21move the ball consistently in the passing game.
- 1:14:25Because we'll be able to get after their quarterback so that
- 1:14:28that's how I think the game is going to go, nothing's gonna be
- 1:14:31a tight one down at the end, but I think they'll just have enough
- 1:14:33gas to get over the hump against us.
- 1:14:35All right. Again, folks, talk to us and
- 1:14:37five weeks. We might have very different
- 1:14:39opinions on this, you know. And again, this is us looking
- 1:14:43where we are now in. I think as we get to kind of the
- 1:14:47Middle Point here, this is what it is.
- 1:14:50This is what we're seeing as we are now.
- 1:14:53I think I'm looking at an Mystical and I think Brian's a
- 1:14:56football player that's been on the field, a lot more than me.
- 1:14:58So he's taking a little bit of a different look, but if y'all are
- 1:15:02coming in at us in three weeks and we'll Curtis, you said we're
- 1:15:04going to lose West Virginia. Now, you got us winning why?
- 1:15:07Well, because I've seen Game tape and it's different
- 1:15:11opinions. All right?
- 1:15:13Brian? I'm going to let you leave this
- 1:15:15one. Yeah, comes to Lane stadium in
- 1:15:17October. What do you think on that one?
- 1:15:22That's a fucking W for the Hokies that in our dues.
- 1:15:25He cannot win in Lane. We're going to eat.
- 1:15:28Kenny pick it alive. It's going to be fun.
- 1:15:33Like at this point can he pick? It is what he is there to live
- 1:15:37and die by what he's able to do and how much they're able to
- 1:15:41help him in every game. I think that defense takes a big
- 1:15:44step back this year, losing a lot of talent to the NFL.
- 1:15:48And I don't think all of a sudden, can he pick?
- 1:15:50It is going to be a new new player.
- 1:15:52We know, we know his floor and we know his ceiling and I think
- 1:15:57we're going to get more of the same, but I think we're going to
- 1:15:59be doing a lot. Better job of making him
- 1:16:02uncomfortable. This year and just for some
- 1:16:04reason when we play pit in Lane it is completely different than
- 1:16:08playing pit in Heinz Field. Exactly.
- 1:16:12You know what Whitney's to like schedule that game every year
- 1:16:14and make it be at FedEx. Now we do not know, let's just
- 1:16:18do it at FedEx. It's a little point for
- 1:16:19everybody. Y'all can't put anybody in the
- 1:16:21stands anyway. We have agreed for the first
- 1:16:25time and I Braun I say we take the W similar lot of stuff.
- 1:16:30You said you know pits offenses bringing a ton of production
- 1:16:34back and you take less the Virginia Tech game last year
- 1:16:38that offense was not good. It did not produce and kill.
- 1:16:42Kenny pig is still the quarterback.
- 1:16:43We know what he can do, what he can do.
- 1:16:45So where's your one big piece in the defense you already
- 1:16:48mentioned? They lost a ton.
- 1:16:50They really lost their top. Five players in Hamlin Ford
- 1:16:55Wyman. There to their two, best players
- 1:16:58in the secondary. Their three best players on the
- 1:16:59defense of huh? And I mean they had a couple of
- 1:17:02young guys that DT get, you know, All-American nods.
- 1:17:06But I don't and they can definitely ramp up and get some
- 1:17:09production back on that fence blonde.
- 1:17:10I don't think they get enough production back to get them
- 1:17:13where they need to be to beat Team like Virginia Tech.
- 1:17:16I also wonder if Kenny picket can't play, if the hit ad
- 1:17:21finally says, dude, you stuck with this guy for three bleep in
- 1:17:25years, he's not Good. Do something different or you're
- 1:17:29fired? I think that's the problem is
- 1:17:31getting, it's not the Kenny Pickett isn't good, it's that
- 1:17:33he's not good enough to hide all the other deficiencies that they
- 1:17:37have on that offense and but but they expect that of him, they
- 1:17:42put that on him and he's just not that guy.
- 1:17:45Now they have whether they have that.
- 1:17:47Got on the roster is another question.
- 1:17:49I don't think they do necessarily I think Kenny
- 1:17:51pickets their best option at quarterback but that doesn't
- 1:17:54mean that he's the guy that's going to get it done.
- 1:17:57So Kenny pick it is their best option at quarterback.
- 1:18:00Are you that what you're saying? Yeah, well you can't pick.
- 1:18:05Its record is 21 and 17 in three seasons and we're probably going
- 1:18:10to see just above five hundred play from them again this year
- 1:18:14guys. It's going to be six and six or
- 1:18:15seven and five seven and five get bank that shit right now.
- 1:18:20All right. Maybe that's when we do lay, we
- 1:18:23lay on the apps here, pit. Under whatever their number is,
- 1:18:27I think it is seven and a half. So I think we feel safe on that.
- 1:18:30Let's move on Brian. Let's go to be A game last year
- 1:18:35that, you know, it looked like a blowout, you did it look like an
- 1:18:39absolute destruction. It was 42 14, or something like
- 1:18:43that. We won by more than three
- 1:18:45touchdowns. Sorry, I don't remember the
- 1:18:47number on, but we force five turnovers and you know the story
- 1:18:54kind of coming in 4 BC, this year's can Frank.
- 1:18:56Cignetti a guy who was coach for a long time NFL and college
- 1:19:01coach some good quarterbacks along as Away, can he have
- 1:19:04filled your canvas take that step?
- 1:19:07Because they house, they have one of the best offensive lines
- 1:19:09about owning the ACC. But in the country they have a
- 1:19:11bunch of good weapons. Its kind of struggling with the
- 1:19:14running back position, but I think with a guy like jerk
- 1:19:17eviction the weapons on the outside that can be hidden.
- 1:19:20I think he's going to take the step and, you know, on the
- 1:19:24fence. It's can a secondary disk
- 1:19:27progress up because they run a victory and a half.
- 1:19:31They want to cover 1, cover three scheme, That's what
- 1:19:33they're running. That's the look.
- 1:19:35You're going to get there. They're not variation.
- 1:19:38I'm giving you multiples. That's what they do.
- 1:19:42So if that can take a step and I think jerky, which is going to
- 1:19:45take a step and I think if this was a Saturday game may be
- 1:19:52coming off of, you know, a normal week, we'd be able to
- 1:19:55pull the W, but I'm going to give us the L here and maybe the
- 1:20:01only thing I can see is Is maybe they're good and they're like
- 1:20:06six six or seven Lynch coming in in the Stadium's, a little bit
- 1:20:10electric to where it gives our guys some juice.
- 1:20:12But that's the end. You know, I think jerk a bitch
- 1:20:15is actually going to become a first-round quarterback because
- 1:20:19of what he is probably going to Pittsburgh.
- 1:20:22Okay. Okay.
- 1:20:23What do you think he's going to be become literally
- 1:20:26Roethlisberger 2.0, though. Exactly.
- 1:20:28Where the last name one person. Okay, okay, I'm right there with
- 1:20:34you bud. I've got this one as an L, as
- 1:20:37well, and it comes down to jirka Vic.
- 1:20:40It comes down to what I think will be a slightly improved
- 1:20:46defense. Especially in terms of limiting,
- 1:20:48the big explosive plays especially from the Position and
- 1:20:55I think just an extra year of season is going to be just
- 1:20:57enough to get them over the hump because that game was not as
- 1:20:59close was a lot closer than I should say.
- 1:21:02A lot closer than what the scoreboard indicated last year.
- 1:21:06You mentioned the five turnovers you when you have five turnovers
- 1:21:11but you only have that that margin of Victory.
- 1:21:13I mean tells you that that's a pretty close game.
- 1:21:16That was probably a one score game.
- 1:21:18If they play to their average in terms of turnover, Differential
- 1:21:22right. Being yeah, pretty much, you
- 1:21:25know? But that is what it is.
- 1:21:28All right, Brian. So currently now, I'm not into
- 1:21:35your Aiden 3 so we're not that far off from one another What do
- 1:21:41you think about Miami? But that's going to be know I'll
- 1:21:49damn even even losing all their defensive line.
- 1:21:54Yeah I think they do a pretty good job of reloading and I
- 1:21:58think that the Eric King is going to have a monster year if
- 1:22:03he can remain healthy. I'm not looking forward to this
- 1:22:09game very much you know they didn't do too bad in terms of
- 1:22:13returning Talent they return some of their their production
- 1:22:18from last year but really A lot of the production of offense and
- 1:22:23a good amount on defense. So this may be the year that
- 1:22:29Manny Diaz figures it out and kind of gets them to play
- 1:22:33consistently to their level of talent compared to having those
- 1:22:39about two or three, Clunkers in the year that either they lose,
- 1:22:43or they play down to an opponent that they should and barely
- 1:22:46scrape out a win. So I think look for them to
- 1:22:51potentially. Also this other potentially push
- 1:22:56you and see for the ACC Coastal Championship.
- 1:22:59All right, so bronze, kind of locked it in.
- 1:23:01Here. He is now eight wins for losses
- 1:23:04for the Hokies essentially probably finishing any somewhere
- 1:23:08between second and third, right? Depending on what happened to
- 1:23:11say, for the third third and the coastal.
- 1:23:13I've got, actually, my Emmy winning the coastal.
- 1:23:15A Miami one in the coaster. All right.
- 1:23:17Well, I'm taking this. Anil as well, folks.
- 1:23:20But let me just say this everything is determined on
- 1:23:23Derek Kings health of how they do this year.
- 1:23:27Those two other guys are not even close to ready.
- 1:23:30Come November, they still will not be as close to ready and
- 1:23:33there's one thing that kind of caught my that what makes the
- 1:23:38are king So Special. If you look Thank you, thank you
- 1:23:46T. SS M for saying this is cool.
- 1:23:48Thank you for this. There's one thing I looked at
- 1:23:52Brown that will probably shock you from last year.
- 1:23:54Miami's elusive plays wasn't was significantly in the red last
- 1:24:00year. Okay, on both sides of the ball
- 1:24:03or on machine on both sides but on passing and running nails.
- 1:24:07But that team was still able to put up over 440 yards of offense
- 1:24:11a game and over 34 points a game.
- 1:24:15That's why I say this is the Fate lies on how the Eric King
- 1:24:18is coming off as a CEO because the way it seems is teams
- 1:24:23respected. His running ability so much,
- 1:24:26they were not going to give up the big runs, right?
- 1:24:29They weren't, but what they did, because of that, you are getting
- 1:24:33the Old Death By A Thousand Seven yard cut. they were
- 1:24:40getting yards if you take the air King out of this offense, I
- 1:24:45think they finish not first. Not second, not third.
- 1:24:48I think they finished fourth in the coaster.
- 1:24:50Let us live with you. They will.
- 1:24:53This will be a very live and die by here.
- 1:24:55Healthy, dear King. Is it really is?
- 1:24:57If he, if he plays 12 games, I think it's there.
- 1:25:01There right there with you and see to win the coastal.
- 1:25:04Yep, if he plays, I think it's pretty much a toss-up, if he's
- 1:25:07healthy for 12 games, if he plays every game, they win the
- 1:25:10coastal. They, when you're with me,
- 1:25:13you're picking them to win the coastal to I'm with you if he's
- 1:25:16healthy, they when the coastal. Okay, we finished second though
- 1:25:20because I think, oh, he's just throw the, I got us - I've got a
- 1:25:25smile and if you've got them, probably what 10 into 10 into,
- 1:25:31we're will be, they'll be tending to Alabama, they'll
- 1:25:35probably screw up one other time.
- 1:25:37They'll do a typical - so you think that game is going to
- 1:25:39decide the coastal. Yep, because I think you and
- 1:25:43sees not only going to lose to us.
- 1:25:46I think UNC about UNC schedule here.
- 1:25:49This is the great. Wonderful thing of streaming
- 1:25:52folks, Brian usually could edit this, to make it not seem as
- 1:25:55long everything in real time. Lee isn't operating in real
- 1:26:00reliable. That means.
- 1:26:04So I think UNC is going to use to us.
- 1:26:09I think UNC is going to lose to Miami.
- 1:26:13And I think UNC is going to get tripped up by NC State.
- 1:26:18I could see that in feast and definitely seemed to watch out
- 1:26:22and potential Notre Dame because they play Notre Dame, much they
- 1:26:26play Notre Dame three weeks after we played them.
- 1:26:29So you got UNC pulling 3 plus losses for their lose.
- 1:26:34Four games are going to go ahead, a okay, they're going to
- 1:26:37go in for and is NC. State is probably the team that
- 1:26:41could snake bite them this year. And that's a lot of getting from
- 1:26:45weekend. Probably, that I'm pretty.
- 1:26:48Hi on NC State. I should say I'm a lot higher on
- 1:26:51n.c. state than I have been in any point the the last Five
- 1:26:57years, at least, I mean, his in Sea, state is probably the one
- 1:27:00team in the Atlantic to watch out for exactly.
- 1:27:04So I'm not in three bronze eight.
- 1:27:06Informed, that is our current predictions entertainment
- 1:27:10purposes, only Billy Ray. What is happening, buddy?
- 1:27:18On the Saturday shall know that. We appreciate you guys watching
- 1:27:21us tonight. So we let me ask this Braun
- 1:27:25either of our records black Monday comes.
- 1:27:29This just point, they still have a job if he wants it.
- 1:27:34I think at this point given what we saw for the happened last
- 1:27:38year, if it's a Twins or better, I think we're looking at another
- 1:27:44year of Justin Fuente. I think you're right.
- 1:27:49I think he wins is the threshold if he wins nine.
- 1:27:53Well we're all happy not completely happy because the
- 1:27:56gold every mistake, I think the threshold could be potentially
- 1:27:59lower in necessarily say that that's a good thing.
- 1:28:02I'm just saying I think based on the information we got from last
- 1:28:06year I think I'm mining that with we're in the middle of a
- 1:28:10major campaign for Reach For Excellence.
- 1:28:14I feel like just there's a lot of factors where Wit may not
- 1:28:18want to upset the apple cart unless things, get ugly, got it.
- 1:28:23And when I say that, I mean, no bowl, no, no, UVA win essential
- 1:28:29essentially, those six games. I said we're booking.
- 1:28:34We're putting you began the Elle column and then yeah, and that's
- 1:28:39when we get in trouble and that's when we started having
- 1:28:41similar conversations that we had last offseason and I'm not
- 1:28:45saying that that's necessarily my expectations of what I think
- 1:28:49we should do. I'm just saying, I feel like
- 1:28:51based on the information that we have, that's the most likely
- 1:28:55outcome. Awesome.
- 1:28:57All right. So folks, we got a, we got a, we
- 1:29:01got a big question here from the sun's real quick before we close
- 1:29:03out. What game scares you more BC or
- 1:29:08pit so at BC or pit in Lane BC 100% 1000%?
- 1:29:15No. 138 percent ever seen that on the commitment to the 138
- 1:29:20percent, BC scares me more because we know what we get on
- 1:29:25offense from pit sons and we know on defense, you don't
- 1:29:31replace that many guys that go to the league.
- 1:29:34Become an elite unit, and even with the elite unit they had
- 1:29:39last year. If you remember that game Braun,
- 1:29:40we were pissed but it literally took us to the third quarter to
- 1:29:44get pissed. It's not like they came out and
- 1:29:47it's not like them at Lane in 2019 when we were there and
- 1:29:52after the first quarter, we just knew his games over there.
- 1:29:57Yeah, you gotta be see. I mean, say what you will about
- 1:30:00the stadium size, but they get it rocking up there in Chestnut
- 1:30:03Hill, man. Now, and that's why I'm hoping
- 1:30:06they have a good record because a Friday night game up there.
- 1:30:11If it's rocking and get some electricity, it will definitely
- 1:30:14give a better chance for us. If we go up there and they're
- 1:30:17like four and four. And I know that's been us saying
- 1:30:20with jirka bitch didn't take a step with your coverage.
- 1:30:22Could take a step that defense doesn't.
- 1:30:24They could still be myth, but if there's no juice in that
- 1:30:26stadium, so tough for guys to get up for yep.
- 1:30:30Alright number, so believe it or not brawn, This is our last
- 1:30:35broadcast of 2021 with no college football bloody yes,
- 1:30:43sir. We got real games.
- 1:30:45This weekend, ladies and gentlemen, re games conference
- 1:30:49games. Not the best late.
- 1:30:52You've got one, two, three, four, five, yeah, 5 games.
- 1:30:59I like that TW o SM, it needs to be a win.
- 1:31:03BC is going to be tough. I agree.
- 1:31:05We got five games Saturday. We kick off and we're going to
- 1:31:08pick two of them today. Y'all know, we normally pick all
- 1:31:11the ACC games involved or most of them.
- 1:31:14Sometimes it's ones like we don't even try to look at and at
- 1:31:17least maybe a couple big game, but we're going to games this
- 1:31:19week. We're looking at the Nebraska
- 1:31:21Illinois game and the Hawaii UCLA game.
- 1:31:24Let's start Nebraska, Illinois, Braun.
- 1:31:27And what We've got here is Nebraska's on the road.
- 1:31:30Scott Frost is in deep shit. All over the place between not
- 1:31:34games in the assemble a shit and you've got Illinois Bret,
- 1:31:38Bielema takes over to Illinois. Back in Big Ten, country back in
- 1:31:44somewhere he's comfortable. Here's the line.
- 1:31:48Nebraska is lame 7. This is a tell annoy 55 is the
- 1:31:53over under number the, one p.m. kick in for all those
- 1:31:57degenerates like us who will probably be?
- 1:32:01I mean I'll be watching. It is going to be on Fox at
- 1:32:051:00. Last year's meeting 4123
- 1:32:09Illinois. So what are you thinking?
- 1:32:12This one brand taking a line and taking an over under which you
- 1:32:15got. I think Illinois is going to
- 1:32:20cover. All right, so you're taking
- 1:32:23Illinois with the point, right? Yep.
- 1:32:26All right, so let's my God write that down.
- 1:32:30Um, I'm not screwing with the stinking spread, I'm just not.
- 1:32:37It's, it's too much going on. We don't know where Nebraska's
- 1:32:41head is. Bielema, is trying to install
- 1:32:43something new. They're probably going back to
- 1:32:44his Wisconsin, roots, in a big power game.
- 1:32:47Don't know if he has the players there for Alec Brian is on
- 1:32:50Illinois. So I really am going to kind of
- 1:32:52pull for them. I am going to take the over 55.
- 1:32:56Okay. Okay.
- 1:32:57For me, you're staying, you're staying away from the spread
- 1:33:00because there's too many variables wait.
- 1:33:02Umi variables. Also first games it, alright, if
- 1:33:06I forced your hand who you got in the spread, um, if you force
- 1:33:12me on the spread, I think I would take the Illinois, okay?
- 1:33:15It also could see Nebraska who has a really good defense
- 1:33:19locking down of converting offense.
- 1:33:23In winning by, you know, 14 17 points.
- 1:33:25But I'm going to go over because this game has not went under in
- 1:33:30like ever since they started playing each other in last few
- 1:33:32years. So I'm over 55.
- 1:33:34Brian is Illinois taking the points and their that is watch
- 1:33:40that game. I'm going to try to Lodge it.
- 1:33:43We've got some stuff going on Saturday but I think I'll be
- 1:33:45home by 1:00 to get the old man cave fired up here.
- 1:33:49Second game, Brian watching the West.
- 1:33:52It's Coast, Hawaii. CLA UCLA.
- 1:33:55Chip, Kelly is essentially in a make-or-break season for him.
- 1:33:59Absolutely, UCLA is laying 18 points in the over under is 68
- 1:34:04and a half, what you got. So I think it's two things here.
- 1:34:11UCLA does return a lot on offense, but They notoriously
- 1:34:16every season start a little slow.
- 1:34:19So I definitely have UCLA pulling this one out, but I
- 1:34:23think Hawaii with that spread you know, they have a lot of
- 1:34:28points to work with. I think they, they cover I'm
- 1:34:31with you on that. I think we'll why covers.
- 1:34:33I think UCLA wins over under. Um, I'd say overall, I think
- 1:34:38this is going to turn into a big shootout which is going to be
- 1:34:41great at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon.
- 1:34:44Buddy, is anything broken in the last hour and 36 minutes?
- 1:34:50This one a long time? I haven't seen anything come
- 1:34:54across buddy. I think, I think we don't have
- 1:34:56any major break here, as we close out.
