Transcript
- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome back to the Elon Musk Podcast.
- 0:05This is a show where we discuss the critical Crossroads, The
- 0:08Shape, SpaceX, Tesla X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.
- 0:13I'm your host, Will Walden. Today's episode is about Tesla
- 0:18and also X. And in a recent development,
- 0:21Tesla has confirmed that the upcoming Cyber Truck delivery
- 0:24event will be streamed exclusively on X.
- 0:28Now no more YouTube. This is the social media
- 0:31platform previously known as Twitter, and it's now under the
- 0:34leadership of Elon Musk. If you're not aware now, this
- 0:37decision has sparked a debate regarding Musk's influence in
- 0:40leveraging his business to support each other, especially
- 0:43considering Tesla's status as a publicly traded company.
- 0:48In 2022, Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion, and
- 0:52subsequently he took the company private.
- 0:54Musk, already at the helm of Tesla and SpaceX, assumed the
- 0:58roles of CEOCTO, executive chair at Twitter, which he later
- 1:02renamed to X, and earlier this year he appointed Linda
- 1:06Yankarino as CEO of X, partially relieving himself of his duties
- 1:11there. Musk's involvement in X,
- 1:13especially in the context of responsibilities at Tesla and
- 1:17SpaceX, initially caused unease amongst Tesla's investors.
- 1:22The renaming of Twitter to X reflects Musk's ambition to
- 1:25transform the platform into an Everything app, expanding beyond
- 1:29its original 140 character text format to include videos, long
- 1:34form content and live streams. Now this strategic shift has
- 1:39been evident in Spacex's recent actions.
- 1:41The space exploration companies ceased using other social media
- 1:45platforms, including YouTube, where they have millions and
- 1:48millions of followers and millions and millions of views
- 1:52on their past launches where it has its over 1,000,000
- 1:55subscribers to exclusively stream its events such as the
- 1:59Starship test flight on X. And I have to say, from a
- 2:03personal standpoint, the video quality on X was OK.
- 2:09They don't have any discovery on X yet for videos, so I'm not
- 2:14sure how many people will be watching the Tesla live stream
- 2:17on X. And while Must Decision might
- 2:20not inherently draw criticism. The quality of X's live
- 2:23streaming services is not really up to par with established
- 2:27platforms like YouTube. X's stream have been noted for
- 2:30their inferior video quality and lack of key features such as the
- 2:34ability to rewind live content and also Chromecast to your TV
- 2:40or cast to your TV. You have to do screen sharing on
- 2:44your phone to cast it to your TV.
- 2:48Now test. The decision to stream the
- 2:50highly anticipated Cyber Truck delivery event exclusively on X
- 2:54is therefore seen as a critical move moving forward, and the
- 2:58Cyber Truck has generated significant interest, evidenced
- 3:01by the long lines of people eager to see the vehicle at
- 3:04Tesla stores. Streaming this event on X can
- 3:06significantly boost the platform's reputation as a
- 3:10destination for video, live streams and for long form
- 3:13content. Historically, though, this
- 3:16synergy between Musk's companies has been beneficial.
- 3:19Tesla once used parts of Spacex's Hawthorne factory for
- 3:22its design studio, and the companies have shared resources
- 3:25and expertise, particularly in developing the Cybertruck
- 3:29stainless steel alloy. Now, SpaceX has also used
- 3:33batteries from Tesla in some of the Rockets.
- 3:36The collaboration between Tesla and X, while not immediately
- 3:39apparent, could prove advantageous for Tesla,
- 3:42potentially positioning X as a major news platform and aiding
- 3:47Tesla encountering negative press, also a live video stream
- 3:52platform. However, the current
- 3:54technological shortcomings of X's live streaming capabilities
- 3:59raise questions about the suitability of exclusivity with
- 4:02hosting a high profile event like a cyber truck delivery on
- 4:06the platform. Additionally, as a publicly
- 4:09traded company, Tesla may face legal scrutiny for choosing the
- 4:13stream this event solely on X without considering an
- 4:17alternative like YouTube or they already have a huge established
- 4:22audience. Now as of now, it seems that
- 4:25Tesla intends to proceed with the exclusive streaming of
- 4:28Cybertruck event on X. We'll continue to monitor the
- 4:30situation and provide updates should there be any changes to
- 4:34this plan. I want to say thank you so much
- 4:37for tuning into the show today. I really do appreciate your
- 4:40support. If you could take a second and
- 4:42hit the subscribe or the follow button on whatever podcast
- 4:45platform that you're listening on right now, I greatly

- 4:50tremendously and you'll never miss an episode and each episode
- 4:53is about 10 minutes or less to get you caught up quickly.
