- 0:30Speaker 1: your old son with my ex wife, and so for
- 0:34Speaker 1: the last few years, he's been obsessed with Pokemon cards. Honestly,
- 0:39Speaker 1: it's like our thing that we do together. We go
- 0:41Speaker 1: to the card shows together and hit up local shops
- 0:44Speaker 1: and I've even stood in line with them outside of shop,
- 0:47Speaker 1: like because we knew there was new cars coming in.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You know. We trade with other collectors and spent a
- 0:53Speaker 1: time in going through the binders getting everything organized. It's really,
- 0:57Speaker 1: you know, some of my favorite memories with that kid
- 0:59Speaker 1: or because of those cards.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I love that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's great, and we actually built a pretty incredible collection.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You know, he's got some that are pretty rare. I
- 1:08Speaker 1: don't know how much you guys know about Pokemon cards.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Some of them are you know. Yeah, so all together
- 1:15Speaker 1: that collection is worth about like a few thousand bucks.
- 1:22Speaker 2: That Oh yeah, time for real.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Here comes the This is the tough part. I I
- 1:29Speaker 1: pond his Pokemon collection. No, I mean it well, I
- 1:40Speaker 1: mean I need that money. I've hit some really hard
- 1:44Speaker 1: times financially and I you know, I share custody. I
- 1:48Speaker 1: have to be able to provide. You know, my hours
- 1:50Speaker 1: got cut back at work and I'm behind on bills.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It just feels like every week something goes wrong, Like
- 1:57Speaker 1: I just feel like I'm about to get my head
- 1:59Speaker 1: above water and then oh I need new tires. You know, No,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I get it, Like my all my mail is like
- 2:06Speaker 1: overdue notices and so I'm just I'm trying to keep
- 2:10Speaker 1: the trains running over here, you know what I mean.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm the dad, and I got to keep the lights one.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So I didn't sell them, you know. I took them
- 2:16Speaker 1: to pawn shop and I got the loan against him.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And my plan is, okay, to pay back and get them,
- 2:23Speaker 1: you know, Okay, you know if I don't. If I don't,
- 2:26Speaker 1: they're gone.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Okay, So you can, okay, because I'm kind of familiar
- 2:30Speaker 3: without it. And I've never really pawned anything I have.
- 2:33Speaker 3: So you could put you could take a watch. You
- 2:36Speaker 3: could take you could take a watch and be like, hey,
- 2:38Speaker 3: hold this, give me two hundred bucks cash, and.
- 2:41Speaker 4: They'll make an offer and they'll say, hey, this watch
- 2:43Speaker 4: is worth five hundred dollars, right, and then they'll give
- 2:46Speaker 4: you get a loan for that.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You've got to pay the loan back, but you get
- 2:49Speaker 2: to pay it back in a time of fashion.
- 2:51Speaker 4: If you don't, that watch is gone, and those payments
- 2:54Speaker 4: that you paid leading up to that, they gone are
- 2:56Speaker 4: gone because I've done it before.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You pawn Huh some tools a long time ago? Were
- 3:02Speaker 2: they yours?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Oh?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Great? God?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Like the worst part, Like the last time we were together,
- 3:10Speaker 1: he was asked me where the cards were, and so
- 3:14Speaker 1: I lied to them. This is part of it too.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I told him they were in a safety deposit pockets
- 3:19Speaker 1: at the bank so they wouldn't get damage or stolen.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And he actually was like, he was like, hey, that's
- 3:25Speaker 1: a good idea, dad, and that just oh heart, this
- 3:30Speaker 1: whole thing. I mean, I like that You're doing the
- 3:35Speaker 1: best you can. Look, I still have a few weeks
- 3:39Speaker 1: and I'm doing everything I can I come up with
- 3:41Speaker 1: this money. I've been picking up odd jobs. I've been
- 3:44Speaker 1: selling other stuff, and I definitely haven't told my ex
- 3:48Speaker 1: wife about this, but yeah, if I don't get those
- 3:51Speaker 1: cards back, I mean, it's not just about losing the money,
- 3:53Speaker 1: it's about losing the one thing that my son and
- 3:55Speaker 1: I have sort of built together over the last few years.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And they said, there's no way, there's no way, you're
- 4:01Speaker 3: not gonna if you got to call us back and
- 4:03Speaker 3: we got to help you out here, you gotta get
- 4:06Speaker 3: this kid's Pokemon cards back, right man.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So you'll get You'll get it. You sound like a
- 4:11Speaker 2: good dad.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I mean, listen, there's a lot of parents who have
- 4:15Speaker 3: fallen on struggles.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I feel a little better talking to
- 4:18Speaker 1: you guys, as you can well imagine. It's not my
- 4:22Speaker 1: finest hour as a father.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I never went through with it.
- 4:26Speaker 4: But my oldest son, Chris, he has a big Pokemon collection,
- 4:31Speaker 4: really like, yeah, he's got a shar Zard or whatever
- 4:34Speaker 4: that character's name. It's worth about twenty five hundred by itself,
- 4:37Speaker 4: that one card.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Where's that right now? Did you say no, no, No,
- 4:41Speaker 2: it's with him. It's with him. Good And you never
- 4:44Speaker 2: sold it when he was no.
- 4:45Speaker 4: But there were some times I was like who, But
- 4:48Speaker 4: I never knew about him. You know, they became a
- 4:51Speaker 4: real popular what you're saying, if you knew it was
- 4:53Speaker 4: worth that, there's some nights of lights would have been
- 4:56Speaker 4: on instead of lighting candles.
