- 0:09Speaker 1: Alrighty. Then Sports Radio ninety three point three kjar is
- 0:12Speaker 1: on iHeartRadio, download the new free iHeartRadio app, bad Sports
- 0:16Speaker 1: Radio KJR dot com, and make us the number one presets.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Glad you're with us. Greg Bell's off here for today,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Mike Benton with you, Chris kids on the other side,
- 0:28Speaker 1: back behind the glass after arresting, relaxing and recharging type
- 0:34Speaker 1: of weekend. For me, it was kind of the four
- 0:37Speaker 1: day variety. I've got kids eight and eleven, and they
- 0:40Speaker 1: had four days of free time, no school, and no baseball.
- 0:46Speaker 1: They're also very very very very deep into the sports
- 0:49Speaker 1: thing as well, and people ask me, well, hey, you're
- 0:51Speaker 1: a hockey guy from the crack and your kids don't
- 0:53Speaker 1: play hockey. Well, I say, they can play whatever they want,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and they just kind of gravitated more toward the baseball thing.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But no weekends. So I mean, if your mom and dad,
- 1:02Speaker 1: you're trying to figure out how to make sure that
- 1:03Speaker 1: you have two boys not kill each other when they're
- 1:06Speaker 1: gonna go out and play for about four days in
- 1:08Speaker 1: a row. But we got through it and we enjoyed it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Man, that is awesome. I don't have kids, so my weekend,
- 1:14Speaker 2: my four day weekend was it was great.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It was good.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I gotta go on a nice hike. Although we were
- 1:22Speaker 2: tricked in terms of the weather. We thought it was
- 1:24Speaker 2: gonna be seventy two clear skies. I woke up in
- 1:29Speaker 2: the morning, checked the weather and it was cloudy, yep
- 1:32Speaker 2: all day and very chilly.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And made for a good walk. And it sounds kind
- 1:38Speaker 1: of in line with what my eleven year old said.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And we're what now May twenty six, we're getting out
- 1:44Speaker 1: the door. I dropped them off at school. My wife
- 1:46Speaker 1: as well. She teaches up into the in the North
- 1:49Speaker 1: Sound and he goes, it's late May, how coming still raining,
- 1:54Speaker 1: And I go, buddy boy, welcome to the Pacific Northwest. Yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 1: that's that's how it is.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And then I got to spend some time with the family,
- 2:02Speaker 2: my little sisters back in time with her boyfriend from
- 2:05Speaker 2: New Orleans. So it was a good weekend, good weekend, resting,
- 2:08Speaker 2: watching the calves get curb stumped. So yeah, just a
- 2:13Speaker 2: good weekend overall. Back to be back on the air
- 2:15Speaker 2: with you, Mike, so you know, and mariners.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Oh, we're going to get to a lot of that.
- 2:21Speaker 1: How about them, We're going to get to a lot
- 2:23Speaker 1: of that. At ten twenty, the one and only Luke
- 2:27Speaker 1: Arkins of the Mariners constliary newsletter will be joining us,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and we have a lot to dive into about this
- 2:36Speaker 1: piggyback thing, this project oinc thing, this one bad pig thing.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I don't care what you want to call it up
- 2:41Speaker 1: this point, but it's not totally dominant of the conversation.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You had to acknowledge. The Mariners played a great game
- 2:48Speaker 1: last night and in the series that is right now
- 2:50Speaker 1: looming as big as they come at this point of
- 2:52Speaker 1: the season though it is early, but yet they found
- 2:55Speaker 1: a way to pull it out nine to two. Bad
- 2:56Speaker 1: showed up, but there was a lot to dive into.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Luke Arkins, by the way, had a great drop yesterday
- 3:02Speaker 1: for his newsletter. Go ahead and check it out. But
- 3:03Speaker 1: he's gonna be joining us here at ten twenty. Later
- 3:06Speaker 1: on at eleven thirty, we're kind of shifting things around
- 3:09Speaker 1: here on this show a bit to accommodate John Alers,
- 3:11Speaker 1: who's on the call for play by play for the
- 3:14Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Western Conference Final. By the way, that again
- 3:17Speaker 1: hurt on nine point fifty kr AM. Game four is tonight,
- 3:21Speaker 1: Vegas can sweep and Vegas and what has been in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the middle of just a bonker season. Coddor McDavid called
- 3:28Speaker 1: it a pillow fight in the Pacific Division. They might
- 3:31Speaker 1: be emerging out of this as a clear cut Western
- 3:34Speaker 1: Conference champion and maybe the clearcut favorite now to win
- 3:38Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup. How crazy pants is this getting? John
- 3:41Speaker 1: Allers has been on the call for the entire series.
- 3:44Speaker 1: He'll tell us why. I think it might be done
- 3:46Speaker 1: in four but we're gonna get to him by the way,
- 3:48Speaker 1: coming up at eleven thirty one. So he emerges from
- 3:50Speaker 1: a morning skate out in Vegas and as always four
- 3:54Speaker 1: nine four or five to one, the Koma Dodge text line,
- 3:57Speaker 1: it has been lit up like Christmas so far day
- 4:00Speaker 1: and also a big welcome to many of those of
- 4:03Speaker 1: you on the YouTube stream. Appreciate you doing this once again.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I dial this up each and every time whenever I'm
- 4:08Speaker 1: at home, by the way, and that's when I'm able
- 4:10Speaker 1: to give our host, our Chris Kid back behind the
- 4:13Speaker 1: glass a lot more texture here to the conversation. It's
- 4:17Speaker 1: one thing to hear, it's also another here to see,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and that's the beauty of YouTube and streaming. In twenty
- 4:22Speaker 1: twenty six. I'm not just blowing smoke here. No, you're niag.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You're being very truthful.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Actually, people have been wanting to see us for a
- 4:31Speaker 2: while now, it's been some years. They were like, when
- 4:34Speaker 2: are you gonna get this done? When's it gonna happen?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Are you ever gonna do it?
- 4:38Speaker 1: No, there's a lot to explain of why, and there's
- 4:41Speaker 1: a lot of gears to work on behind the scenes. Listen,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm paid to be an on air guy. This is
- 4:47Speaker 1: the best I can say. It just takes time to
- 4:48Speaker 1: be to be put together. It takes time, No, it does.
- 4:52Speaker 2: We're finally, finally, we finally have it and people are
- 4:55Speaker 2: excited to see the great Mike Benton of their smiling away.
- 5:00Speaker 1: They get to see Greg Bail.
- 5:02Speaker 2: The mayor checks and the male kid thanks Softy Fame,
- 5:06Speaker 2: Chuck Ash get to see everybody Jackson Anderson.
- 5:10Speaker 1: At least you didn't call me the talent. I appreciate great,
- 5:14Speaker 1: but talent.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Is kind of like throw me under the bus, very
- 5:16Speaker 2: vague and oh yeah the talent.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Hey, you never ever call yourself the talent, never ever.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So yeah, people are enjoying it. They think some of
- 5:24Speaker 1: us are handsome, so it works. Out, well, doesn't it?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Mariners last night winning nine to two over the A's,
- 5:30Speaker 1: And we're gonna get to Luke Arkins at ten twenty
- 5:32Speaker 1: again to break more of this down, not just from
- 5:35Speaker 1: last night, but just from where this team is at
- 5:37Speaker 1: roughly a third of the way through the season, because,
- 5:41Speaker 1: as we often say in this business, the numbers never lie,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and Luke Arkins dropped a lot of truth bombs in
- 5:48Speaker 1: the numbers from just yesterday when he put up a
- 5:51Speaker 1: post to describe this whole delightful potpourrie as the next
- 5:56Speaker 1: show after me usually calls it for Molliwatt Monday of
- 6:00Speaker 1: just confusion, of elation, and of frustration as well. But
- 6:05Speaker 1: that's where we're at right now for this Seattle mayor
- 6:07Speaker 1: Inner season, because for all you can go through and
- 6:11Speaker 1: all you can experience, from injuries to inconsistent offense to
- 6:18Speaker 1: will JP Crawford find Josh Naylor's mint or throw it
- 6:21Speaker 1: into the third row, you never know what you're gonna get,
- 6:24Speaker 1: kind of like the old candy analogy from Forrest Gump.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But yet they're still hanging around in this thing right now,
- 6:31Speaker 1: one and a half games out of first place. That
- 6:33Speaker 1: is a whole crazy part of it from last night
- 6:36Speaker 1: in the nine to two win. I mean, let's just
- 6:39Speaker 1: be honest. The piggyback situation, I call it Project oinc.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Two times through this, let's be honest, results wise, numbers wise,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's worked. Last night, Luis Castillo on the bump to
- 6:56Speaker 1: begin the game absolutely shoved Bryce Miller, who in the
- 7:00Speaker 1: previous game started the game on the bump and absolutely shoved.
- 7:07Speaker 1: But there is one thing in common we have from
- 7:10Speaker 1: this piggyback situation that I'm sure a lot of you
- 7:14Speaker 1: are feeling about this After a win like last night,
- 7:18Speaker 1: there is still an air of awkwardness that we cannot
- 7:22Speaker 1: ignore and is going to affect this thing long term
- 7:28Speaker 1: because we have had two games running through this. Bryce Miller,
- 7:33Speaker 1: you start Game one, we may yank you no matter
- 7:37Speaker 1: how well you're pitching. And Luis Castillo gets his turn,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and look what happened. After last week we had an
- 7:45Speaker 1: awkward situation where Bryce Miller clearly did not want to
- 7:49Speaker 1: come out, and maybe he shouldn't have come out because
- 7:52Speaker 1: he was rolling. This time, they flip it around. Luis
- 7:57Speaker 1: Castillo on the bump. He gets rolling four innings of work,
- 8:03Speaker 1: sixty eight pitches and just has this gold mine of
- 8:08Speaker 1: offensive support right behind him. Seven to nothing already by
- 8:13Speaker 1: the fourth inning, and what do we have. A half
- 8:15Speaker 1: inning later, we get an awkward conversation on the bench
- 8:20Speaker 1: in the dugout between manager and starting pitcher to which
- 8:25Speaker 1: we don't know maybe what was said to be fair,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but the body language told a ton of the story.
- 8:32Speaker 1: And Luis Castillo was clearly upset, likely at this thing
- 8:37Speaker 1: with getting pulled after four innings. And you can look
- 8:41Speaker 1: right back to what was spread all across the internet
- 8:44Speaker 1: last night and social media and Twitter and ex TikTok.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't care. He threw his glove on the bench,
- 8:55Speaker 1: And then we go right to the very end of this, Chris,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you have this pulled up here
- 9:00Speaker 1: from brad Adam gotcha last night? I think told the
- 9:04Speaker 1: whole story once again about where we're at here with
- 9:08Speaker 1: this piggyback situation or Project oinc. And from game one
- 9:14Speaker 1: when you can just sense an air of awkwardness and
- 9:16Speaker 1: Bryce Miller reluctant to lead the game. He tried to
- 9:20Speaker 1: plead to stay in the game, but would not stay
- 9:23Speaker 1: in the game. Brad Adam, who did the lord's work
- 9:27Speaker 1: last night and did a phenomenal job handling this postgame interview. Well,
- 9:31Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, all you have to know about this
- 9:34Speaker 1: situation is how Bryce Miller reacted and without further ado,
- 9:39Speaker 1: here is Brad Adam now the second guy the second time.
- 9:42Speaker 3: So is it getting more I guess comfortable now that
- 9:45Speaker 3: you've done both situations.
- 9:47Speaker 4: This setup's not very comfortable. But like I said, I mean,
- 9:51Speaker 4: at the end of the day, I get to come
- 9:52Speaker 4: out and pitch in the big leagues and something that
- 9:55Speaker 4: I've dreamed about my whole life. So would I rather
- 9:58Speaker 4: start the game? Yeah, But anytime that can be on
- 10:00Speaker 4: the mount in the big leagues, I'll be grateful for it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Does that not tell the whole story? Four nine, four,
- 10:06Speaker 1: five to one. This is not comfortable, And you give
- 10:09Speaker 1: Bryce Miller credit because not once, but twice he has
- 10:13Speaker 1: tried to be a good teammate. Suck it up and say, hey,
- 10:16Speaker 1: at the end of the day, it's nice being on
- 10:18Speaker 1: a big league mound. But let's be real, these guys
- 10:23Speaker 1: are competitors. And I love what Ryan Healy said on
- 10:27Speaker 1: these airwaves about roughly an hour ago. When you're a
- 10:30Speaker 1: starting pitcher, you are trained to empty the tank. What
- 10:35Speaker 1: you signed up for was to be the guy to
- 10:39Speaker 1: carry the mail, to pull the wagon for five, six,
- 10:44Speaker 1: maybe seven innings. Here in modern day baseball twenty years ago,
- 10:49Speaker 1: we're talking eight or nine innings. But that's baseball back then.
- 10:52Speaker 1: This is baseball now. Coaches management, they're trying to save
- 10:56Speaker 1: and preserve arms. But what we're clearly looking at right
- 10:59Speaker 1: now is a situation where the Mariners are dancing around
- 11:03Speaker 1: this thing to excessive and unnecessary terms, because at some
- 11:09Speaker 1: point you have to admit that this is going to
- 11:12Speaker 1: be a numbers game. Bryce Miller is clearly one of
- 11:16Speaker 1: the top three guys on this rotation. Luis Castillo's best
- 11:21Speaker 1: days are behind him now. Whether you want to go
- 11:24Speaker 1: back and say we should have dealt him to get
- 11:26Speaker 1: him off the roster back then where there was some
- 11:28Speaker 1: value hate fine, But the answer at this point is
- 11:31Speaker 1: that he's not going to get traded. Do you want
- 11:34Speaker 1: to go to a six man rotation? Four nine four
- 11:37Speaker 1: five one? How longer can you last here with this
- 11:39Speaker 1: piggyback thing? Four nine four five one? Because it stinks.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The Mariners had a great game last night offensively, and
- 11:47Speaker 1: they had been struggling. Now they had some wind help
- 11:50Speaker 1: as well last night, but Randy's matching once again like
- 11:55Speaker 1: he always has. They get a bond from Luke Rayley,
- 11:58Speaker 1: a bond from dominic Can's JP Crawford. I mean, his
- 12:04Speaker 1: best been up and down. He got back on the
- 12:06Speaker 1: sheet last night. But again the issues at shortstop are
- 12:09Speaker 1: a different thing, and they are brutal. But again, this
- 12:13Speaker 1: is going to continue for as long as they want
- 12:14Speaker 1: to dance around this. With Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Brian
- 12:19Speaker 1: wu Emerson, Hancock, you have six guys who can hurl
- 12:23Speaker 1: the baseball on the mound. But I think we're clearly
- 12:26Speaker 1: finding out what you have to do long term because
- 12:30Speaker 1: this piggyback thing. Yes he got results, but is it
- 12:35Speaker 1: worth it trying to what looks like right now work
- 12:39Speaker 1: around the issue at the expense of a morale of
- 12:44Speaker 1: your starting pitchers, And that's Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo
- 12:48Speaker 1: who have not been comfortable with this from the get go.
- 12:53Speaker 1: It is a plan you have to clearly sell and
- 12:57Speaker 1: from the reaction we gathered last night, this was not
- 13:00Speaker 1: laid out in crystal clear terms. And despite the win,
- 13:05Speaker 1: a great win, this is becoming a massive elephant in
- 13:10Speaker 1: the room that this team will have to address and
- 13:13Speaker 1: address assertively. So you tell me where you're at right
- 13:17Speaker 1: now with this four nine, four or five one. Luke
- 13:19Speaker 1: Arkins is going to be around the quarter in just
- 13:21Speaker 1: a bit? How long is this situation going to be
- 13:24Speaker 1: good for? Plus more reaction here on the Mariners offense?
- 13:27Speaker 1: The great Luke Erkins joins us next year in ninety
- 13:30Speaker 1: three three kJ Rafim been a minute? Here is Sinja
- 13:32Speaker 1: been on these airwaves. It's a million dollar visit though
- 13:34Speaker 1: from you? How are you?
- 13:37Speaker 3: Hey, Mike? Thanks for having me on. And I think
- 13:39Speaker 3: it's the first time we've actually talked.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yes, seriously, we yett to do this more often or
- 13:45Speaker 1: at least when I'm back in here in this chair.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yes, time.
- 13:50Speaker 1: It's great to hear from you, Luke. But the conversation
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think for us and why we have you on,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think was I think terrific in how you laid
- 13:58Speaker 1: out the numbers from what's has been just mister Toad's
- 14:01Speaker 1: wild ride of this first third of the Mariners season.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And I mean, hey, listen, we all laid this out
- 14:08Speaker 1: back in March with this team being eight outs away
- 14:11Speaker 1: from the World Series for the first time, ever, I
- 14:13Speaker 1: mean we looked at this basically as World series are busts.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So despite this team being one and a half games
- 14:18Speaker 1: out of first place right now, there's still the consistent
- 14:21Speaker 1: feeling that this fan base wants more and they should
- 14:26Speaker 1: be getting more. And I think maybe last night a
- 14:29Speaker 1: step in the right direction with just how they beat
- 14:33Speaker 1: the Athletics and then beat them like a drum coming
- 14:36Speaker 1: out of the gate. But yet there's still a bit
- 14:39Speaker 1: of a stench of where they're going to be going
- 14:41Speaker 1: with this, just from this whole pitching situation. So I'll
- 14:44Speaker 1: just kind of begin you know this with you. You know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: your newsletter was updated, a lot of good stuff, you know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: when we get down to it. The win over the
- 14:51Speaker 1: A's was fun. I mean, that's a good, hard hitting
- 14:54Speaker 1: team that they beat in the first game of the series.
- 14:58Speaker 1: So despite that, and despite this whole conversation around what
- 15:02Speaker 1: they're doing with Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo, how far
- 15:05Speaker 1: did last night go for you with easing concerns?
- 15:11Speaker 3: Not a lot as far as the offense goes. You know,
- 15:13Speaker 3: Ams Valley, I think it's going on the il because
- 15:16Speaker 3: he has a shoulder issue that has been nursing for
- 15:20Speaker 3: the last two starts. So it was a great game.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It was great watching all those home runs and and
- 15:26Speaker 3: and all that kind of fun stuff. But the pitching side,
- 15:30Speaker 3: and that's where I think the Mariners are above the field,
- 15:34Speaker 3: is that they have the depth in starting pitching. I
- 15:36Speaker 3: know that the piggyback has not been well received, understandably,
- 15:41Speaker 3: but you can't argue with results either. So there you go,
- 15:45Speaker 3: like they're they're making things happen. Maybe the first game
- 15:50Speaker 3: and they didn't quite know what they were doing with it,
- 15:52Speaker 3: but last night showed that you can. You can hold
- 15:55Speaker 3: a hard hitting team in that ballpark just two runs,
- 15:59Speaker 3: and that's a good thing.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Did you catch last night? It's Bryce Miller post game comments.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I did, Actually I missed him, and then I saw
- 16:07Speaker 3: Ian Fernessa's post and I had to go back and
- 16:10Speaker 3: watch it. And yeah, he wasn't a happy camper. I
- 16:13Speaker 3: thought he did a nice job of holding on to
- 16:17Speaker 3: his rage. I don't know that I lived done that
- 16:20Speaker 3: well on my TV, so good for him in that respect.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I know Louis Castillo was a little bit more animated,
- 16:27Speaker 3: but then again understandable too.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Where do you think we're at right now with this?
- 16:34Speaker 1: I think not not just through two games and how
- 16:36Speaker 1: long this may go, but maybe what we're learning about
- 16:40Speaker 1: where Bryce Miller fits properly in this grand pitching scheme,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and even Luis Castillo when you're talking about how effective
- 16:48Speaker 1: can he be maybe first time, second time, even third
- 16:52Speaker 1: time through the order.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Well, Bryce Miller is probably and I think you said it,
- 16:58Speaker 3: He's wanted to get top three starters right now, and
- 17:02Speaker 3: so you should use them that way. As far as
- 17:07Speaker 3: Louis Castillo when they pulled them makes sense to me.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I know I've heard some suggestions they should have let
- 17:13Speaker 3: him pitch the fifth in and you get the win,
- 17:14Speaker 3: but it would have been the third time through the
- 17:17Speaker 3: order at the top of the order was coming up,
- 17:19Speaker 3: and so to me, you go with your best arm there,
- 17:23Speaker 3: and that would have been Bryce Miller. And so long term,
- 17:27Speaker 3: I still think the Mariners are going to need Louis
- 17:29Speaker 3: Castillo in the rotation. It seems inevitable that somebody is
- 17:35Speaker 3: going to have a sore whatever or inflame whatever, and
- 17:37Speaker 3: they're going to miss a little time. I hope not,
- 17:41Speaker 3: but you know, Luis Castille was the only start to
- 17:44Speaker 3: make all thirty starts last year, all thirty two starts
- 17:46Speaker 3: with he was, but he made all his starts, he
- 17:48Speaker 3: didn't miss any time for injury, and so that is
- 17:52Speaker 3: a concern moving forward. So they need to keep the
- 17:54Speaker 3: guy fresh enough and able to go more than just
- 18:00Speaker 3: a couple of innings, because I still think they're going
- 18:02Speaker 3: to need it.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's not the first time that they're talking
- 18:05Speaker 1: about a guy who can maybe handle it first, second time,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and then your concerns grow third time through the order.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I mean I kind of use the example of what
- 18:13Speaker 1: you know, Tampa Bay didn't handling Blake Snell, who has
- 18:16Speaker 1: since moved on, but when they made their World Series
- 18:19Speaker 1: run back in twenty twenty, they were extremely cautious and
- 18:23Speaker 1: extremely guarded with the innings he threw, the pitches he threw,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and where the opposing lineup was before they decided to
- 18:31Speaker 1: go ahead and keep him in or pull him out
- 18:34Speaker 1: right there. So I mean, is this a situation where
- 18:36Speaker 1: you think, if he finds his way back in one example,
- 18:40Speaker 1: is maybe an injury that this is going to be
- 18:43Speaker 1: Maybe I think a limited look of trying to keep
- 18:46Speaker 1: his his innings and pitch counting down just for the
- 18:48Speaker 1: sake of him not being overexposed.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so, Yeah, definitely possibility, that's what they're
- 18:57Speaker 3: looking at. But you know, he just hasn't been that
- 19:02Speaker 3: good at this year as era is just under six now, finally,
- 19:06Speaker 3: he hasn't delivered like he has in the past, and
- 19:09Speaker 3: so yeah, they're trying to protect him some protect the team. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 3: he's still a good pitcher, he's just not one of
- 19:18Speaker 3: the top five on the team right now.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Luke ark is joining us right now. On the Beacon
- 19:22Speaker 1: Plumbing Hotline, Luke's slugging percentage was ranked twenty third. You
- 19:26Speaker 1: mentioned this nugget to entering the week, but I mean
- 19:29Speaker 1: everyone was mashing the long ball last night with the
- 19:33Speaker 1: help of wind. I mean, and really, you know, an
- 19:36Speaker 1: erratic starting pitcher you know who may wind up on
- 19:39Speaker 1: the IL had something to do with that. But I
- 19:41Speaker 1: mean the guys who mashed, they mashed, and Luke, Rayley,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Randy doing Randy things as well. But I mean, what
- 19:48Speaker 1: do we make out of this with how they handle
- 19:51Speaker 1: right versus left handed pitching.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Well, they're definitely not hailing left handed pitching. They have
- 19:58Speaker 3: the worst OPS against left hand pitching in baseball right now,
- 20:01Speaker 3: which is much different than it was last year. Wasn't
- 20:04Speaker 3: great last year, but it was much better. And if
- 20:07Speaker 3: you look at just take ops only Julio and Randy
- 20:13Speaker 3: having a OPS against left handed pitching, it's above the
- 20:16Speaker 3: league average. The league average is six ninety eight, so
- 20:19Speaker 3: that means everybody else is below six ninety eight, which
- 20:23Speaker 3: is not that's not good. So that, to me is
- 20:27Speaker 3: that the issue with the offense right now. We can
- 20:32Speaker 3: look to cal Raley being gone, but he even if
- 20:35Speaker 3: he was there, he wasn't hitting left handed pitching. Brendan
- 20:39Speaker 3: Donovan was doing terribly against it, Josh Naylor hasn't hit
- 20:43Speaker 3: it well. And guys like Naylor, JP Crawford, Mitch Garver,
- 20:48Speaker 3: they performed much better against left handed pitching last year
- 20:51Speaker 3: than this year. So put all that together and you're
- 20:55Speaker 3: just not producing runs. And oh, by the way, Rob Retschneider,
- 20:58Speaker 3: who was brought in specifically a mash has not mashed yet,
- 21:02Speaker 3: and so that is that's a disaster right there.
- 21:05Speaker 1: What what thoughts run through your mind with Rob Refsnyder
- 21:08Speaker 1: in this issue with hitting left handed pitching this year?
- 21:12Speaker 3: Well, I look at this way he I went back
- 21:16Speaker 3: and read something that I wrote about him and I
- 21:18Speaker 3: mentioned at the end of it that he provides an
- 21:21Speaker 3: opportunity to elevate the bench because he's he's gonna face
- 21:26Speaker 3: left handed pitching and he's not doing the job he
- 21:29Speaker 3: was brought in to do. But he's a small part
- 21:32Speaker 3: of the offense. All those other guys I mentioned who
- 21:35Speaker 3: are playing every day, and then who are playing let's
- 21:40Speaker 3: say JP Crawford, Josh Naylor, Cal Raley who masked left
- 21:46Speaker 3: handed pitching, Mitch Garber when Cal isn't playing. All of
- 21:50Speaker 3: those guys are not hitting against left handed pitching, and
- 21:53Speaker 3: so we tend to look at the guy who's his
- 21:57Speaker 3: sole job is to hit left handed pitching. But if
- 22:00Speaker 3: those other guys are hitting left hand and pitching, you
- 22:02Speaker 3: wouldn't care that much about Rob Refsnight. So it's sort
- 22:05Speaker 3: of a group effort of failure.
- 22:09Speaker 1: The JP Crawford thing with where he fits in this lineup,
- 22:12Speaker 1: ad shortstop, at third base, wherever it is. I mean,
- 22:16Speaker 1: there seems to be two sides here to this argument,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and I think one is he needs to be in,
- 22:21Speaker 1: he deserves it, he's a heartbeat of this team, veteran leadership, YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 22:26Speaker 1: And then there's a second one where this is a
- 22:28Speaker 1: results based business, and the routine plays at Shortstop right
- 22:32Speaker 1: now feel about as volatile, to quote Christmas vacation like
- 22:37Speaker 1: driving a dump truck through a nitral a glysser implant.
- 22:41Speaker 1: How longer can the Mariners realistically do this here with
- 22:44Speaker 1: JPS Shortstop?
- 22:44Speaker 3: You think, I don't think much longer. I do wonder.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I actually posted on Twitter about it last night. I
- 22:51Speaker 3: do wonder if maybe he's nursing some sort of injury.
- 22:54Speaker 3: I know he's been hit on that arm a couple
- 22:57Speaker 3: of times. He's had some shoulder inflammation issues the last
- 23:01Speaker 3: two spring trainings, and it just doesn't seem like he
- 23:06Speaker 3: can get the throws off. Of course, I'm not a
- 23:09Speaker 3: professional scout or a player, and I just look and
- 23:13Speaker 3: see what I see on television, and so I don't
- 23:15Speaker 3: claim to be an expert, but he's something's not quite
- 23:19Speaker 3: right there. Even if you're you don't have the strength,
- 23:24Speaker 3: there's just no accuracy. And whether that's his footwork or
- 23:27Speaker 3: something else, I don't know, but it doesn't seem like
- 23:30Speaker 3: you can go on with that much longer. It's one
- 23:32Speaker 3: thing you don't have the range, but when he's still
- 23:35Speaker 3: quite good at snagging the balls that are well hit
- 23:40Speaker 3: that are near him, but he's not able to get
- 23:43Speaker 3: the throws off consistently, and and he's probably going to
- 23:46Speaker 3: get it Josh Naylor hurt at some point just by
- 23:49Speaker 3: how awkward and awful the throws are.
- 23:53Speaker 1: We're yet right now with cold Emerson and where he's
- 23:55Speaker 1: spending in a short stop in third base and also
- 23:57Speaker 1: at the plate.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Well, his defense is you know, he's done great defensively,
- 24:04Speaker 3: and even if he's just average, that's an upgrade at
- 24:07Speaker 3: both positions, so that's a plus offensively. I've taken sort
- 24:13Speaker 3: of an unpopular stand on Twitter, and I even mentioned
- 24:16Speaker 3: it my last addition there that his strikeout rate in
- 24:21Speaker 3: the miners concerned me. It doesn't mean that I believe
- 24:25Speaker 3: he's going to fail, but when you're striking out nearly
- 24:28Speaker 3: thirty percent of the time against triple A pitching, it
- 24:30Speaker 3: does make you wonder, Okay, how's he going to do
- 24:33Speaker 3: against major leaguers. So far, so good. Well let's get
- 24:36Speaker 3: a bigger sample on that and see. I do like
- 24:40Speaker 3: his approach of spraying the ball everywhere, trying to make contact,
- 24:43Speaker 3: and he keeps you know, I mean, he had that
- 24:45Speaker 3: great game on Sunday, four hits and he joins names
- 24:49Speaker 3: like Junior and a Rod And yesterday he didn't get
- 24:53Speaker 3: a hit, but he did walk and he ended up scoring.
- 24:55Speaker 3: So I can't complain about the kid. That's just the thing.
- 25:00Speaker 3: And I'm just hopeful that he wasn't thrown into a
- 25:02Speaker 3: situation that he's not quite ready for. But you can
- 25:05Speaker 3: see why the manners are high on him.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Would it surprise you to see him back in Triple
- 25:08Speaker 1: A at.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Some point, only if he struggles to a point where
- 25:14Speaker 3: it's detrimental for him to stay in the majors.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And why is that they stuck him?
- 25:22Speaker 3: Well, they stuck with well Well, first off, I don't
- 25:24Speaker 3: know they have a better option. And second, they stuck
- 25:27Speaker 3: with Cole Young through the whole year last year until
- 25:30Speaker 3: they finally sort of sidelined him at the end of
- 25:32Speaker 3: the year. So they believe in him enough to bring
- 25:36Speaker 3: him up. I think they'll stay with him until he
- 25:39Speaker 3: just you know, if he's just doing so poorly, then
- 25:42Speaker 3: it's it's not helping him. But if he's just if
- 25:45Speaker 3: you can be near average, that's a win for this
- 25:48Speaker 3: offense and for the defense.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Luke Arkins joins us right now on the Beacon plumbing hotline.
- 25:53Speaker 1: The platoon system still being very much in place since
- 25:56Speaker 1: the dawn of time of this regime. It takes us
- 25:59Speaker 1: here to a dom can zone. He had a big
- 26:02Speaker 1: mash last night off variety, of course, but the lefty
- 26:05Speaker 1: on lefty stuff Luke is of course something that you
- 26:08Speaker 1: brought up recently. And for him, just ten plate appearances,
- 26:12Speaker 1: he's zero for six against lefties. Do you think the
- 26:16Speaker 1: numbers right now deserve maybe a bit of a breakaway
- 26:20Speaker 1: from the norm of this platoon and deserve for him
- 26:22Speaker 1: a longer look against lefties.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I do. I would you know, if we can continue
- 26:29Speaker 3: the team can continue to do the same thing it's
- 26:31Speaker 3: doing and having the same poor results, or they can
- 26:34Speaker 3: try to break out a little bit of the paradigms
- 26:37Speaker 3: of where we're gonna have lefty hitters against righty pitchers
- 26:40Speaker 3: and you know, righty hitters against lefties. But it's not working,
- 26:45Speaker 3: so I'm just gonna stick with it, or can you
- 26:47Speaker 3: try something else? And with ken Zone it wasn't a
- 26:50Speaker 3: big sample. It was only sixty eight plenty of appearances
- 26:53Speaker 3: last year, but we hit two seventy six right and
- 26:55Speaker 3: he had on base of three sixty eight. You know,
- 26:58Speaker 3: League average is probably somewhere around three to four. So
- 27:00Speaker 3: that's that's pretty good, and so why not give that
- 27:03Speaker 3: a try again.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Roxy Bernstein and I chatted about this last week. It
- 27:08Speaker 1: may be I think too early, Luke to pin a
- 27:11Speaker 1: magic number here for wins, but this als being so
- 27:15Speaker 1: comically underwhelming. I mean, the conversation's growing. Ninety wins was
- 27:20Speaker 1: kind of what we landed on here as of this point.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Do you feel that wins the title?
- 27:27Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised the eighty eight wins
- 27:29Speaker 3: wins the title. I mean, to me, the only team
- 27:34Speaker 3: the other only I mean may regrets saying this on
- 27:37Speaker 3: the air, but the only other team in the division
- 27:39Speaker 3: that concerns me is the Rangers. Yes, because of their pitching.
- 27:44Speaker 3: The pitching is why I thought the Marines would win
- 27:47Speaker 3: the division, and the pitching of the Rangers, it's why
- 27:51Speaker 3: I think they're the biggest competitors for the Mayors. Now.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Their pitching is a little older, a little more fragile,
- 28:00Speaker 3: and that is why I thought the Rangers would not
- 28:02Speaker 3: win the division, but they would be the biggest competition.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I also said private season that the angel I mean,
- 28:07Speaker 3: excuse me, the A's will be fine and interesting and
- 28:10Speaker 3: they will make life difficult for the rest of the division.
- 28:14Speaker 3: And that's sort of what they're doing right now.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Oh, the As certainly have been scuffling. We've seen the
- 28:19Speaker 1: Astroses fall apart with health and they're gonna maybe, I
- 28:22Speaker 1: think looking that themselves in the mirror, saying that we're
- 28:24Speaker 1: at the end of this contention window and the Angels
- 28:26Speaker 1: have just been an absolute mess for years. But I
- 28:29Speaker 1: think for the MS in this sake, I mean, we
- 28:31Speaker 1: stand right now on the grounds of May twenty six
- 28:34Speaker 1: and to get to ninety wins, you mentioned maybe eighty eight.
- 28:38Speaker 1: To get to ninety with me and the Mariners have
- 28:40Speaker 1: to go sixty four and forty three, a five to
- 28:43Speaker 1: nine to eight win percentage. So whether it's that or
- 28:45Speaker 1: eighty eight wins for the MS, what's got to go
- 28:49Speaker 1: right here to get to that mark by the end
- 28:50Speaker 1: of September.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Well, first off, they hate to score more runs. I
- 28:57Speaker 3: know that sounds so basic, but that's really the crux
- 29:00Speaker 3: of it. They'll need to get Brendan Dunovan back in
- 29:04Speaker 3: some form or fashion, and cal Rawley also, I don't
- 29:08Speaker 3: think anybody ever expected cal Rawley to be the player
- 29:12Speaker 3: he was last year. But even if he's just the
- 29:14Speaker 3: hitter that he was before last year and his defense,
- 29:20Speaker 3: those two guys are are critical. And then guys like
- 29:24Speaker 3: Josh Snayler has to perform, and I think he will.
- 29:27Speaker 3: I mean, he's been typically about twenty or twenty five
- 29:31Speaker 3: percent better than the league average hitter. He's about six
- 29:35Speaker 3: or seven percent below the average right now, and there's
- 29:38Speaker 3: no reason to unless he's hurt, there's no reason to
- 29:40Speaker 3: believe he won't come around. Julio has done fine, but
- 29:47Speaker 3: he can do better. He actually doesn't hit right hand
- 29:51Speaker 3: and pitching that well. He's actually thriving against lefties, and
- 29:56Speaker 3: I think it's inevitable. I could be wrong that Randy
- 29:59Speaker 3: and Rosaderna will who off He was very hot last
- 30:02Speaker 3: year too, and so yeah, they're just gonna have to
- 30:07Speaker 3: produce more offense. I'm confident in the pitching. You're gonna
- 30:10Speaker 3: get Gabe Spier back this week. You already got Matt
- 30:13Speaker 3: Brash back. That's a pretty good bullpen. It's not maybe elite,
- 30:16Speaker 3: but it's still very good. And then the staff, we
- 30:19Speaker 3: know about the quandary and all that, but they're deep
- 30:23Speaker 3: in starting pitching, so it really just comes back to
- 30:24Speaker 3: the to the offense. They've just got to score more runs.
- 30:27Speaker 3: They've got to have more success against left handers, and
- 30:32Speaker 3: that may mean changing some paradigms, and it might mean
- 30:36Speaker 3: bringing in some new faces.
- 30:38Speaker 1: More like last night where they got nine runs on
- 30:40Speaker 1: the board against alrighty. But you can maybe bet they're
- 30:42Speaker 1: going to face their share of lefty pitching because the
- 30:45Speaker 1: book is certainly out. But at least last night promising
- 30:48Speaker 1: signs in the right direction. Despite the conversation right now, Luke,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you're a gentleman and a scholar. Appreciate your time. Tell
- 30:55Speaker 1: the folks where we can find your work once again.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Well it's cal banners, all right. But if you just

- 31:26Speaker 1: my friend. We'll talk to you soon. Once again, all right,
- 31:29Speaker 1: thanks Mike, that's Luke Arkins joining us here, and again
- 31:32Speaker 1: a lot to dive into. Four nine four five one,
- 31:34Speaker 1: Just on this piggyback situation in the state of the
- 31:36Speaker 1: Mariners offense against left handed pitching. Drop us your thoughts
- 31:40Speaker 1: right now, four nine four five one. But I'm really
- 31:43Speaker 1: concerned about last night nine to two their win. You
- 31:48Speaker 1: get nine runs on the board, but you do it
- 31:50Speaker 1: against alrighty. And yet here we are still with more
- 31:53Speaker 1: conversation from this piggyback situation with two pitchers who are
- 31:57Speaker 1: clearly uncomfortable with this, both in bought language and of
- 32:01Speaker 1: spoken words. So how much did last nights your concerns
- 32:04Speaker 1: on this four nine four five one. We'll get to
- 32:07Speaker 1: more ms here in the next hour, and again this
- 32:09Speaker 1: piggyback conversation is not going away, and there's egos certainly
- 32:12Speaker 1: to manage. But I mean, I want to hear from
- 32:14Speaker 1: you as we turn the page here to the Stanley
- 32:16Speaker 1: Cup playoffs and the NBA Playoffs, which you're going to
- 32:18Speaker 1: be next year upon this show. One team sweeps, another

- 33:11Speaker 1: And what's your state of the Mariners right now despite
- 33:13Speaker 1: a nine to two win last night over the A's
- 33:15Speaker 1: and where they're facing lefties versus righties? And how much
- 33:18Speaker 1: this is easing your concern? But our attention turns here.
- 33:21Speaker 1: First out to the NBA Playoffs, the Knicks sweeping the
- 33:25Speaker 1: Cavaliers and right out the door onto the street, nearly
- 33:30Speaker 1: onto the freeway to get their dust runover. That is,
- 33:34Speaker 1: how competitive or lack thereof it? Was for about roughly
- 33:38Speaker 1: the entire series, save maybe for three quarters. In Game one,
- 33:42Speaker 1: the Calves were no match, and the Knicks are onto
- 33:46Speaker 1: the NBA Finals for the first time since nineteen ninety nine.
- 33:51Speaker 1: If you thought New York was going crazy enough or
- 33:55Speaker 1: they had to actually deny a permit to have fans
- 33:58Speaker 1: gather in the streets because of unruly behavior, how are
- 34:02Speaker 1: they going to react if they win the whole darn thing?
- 34:09Speaker 1: Chris Kidd, The Knicks are looking like the real deal
- 34:11Speaker 1: right now. It's good for basketball.
- 34:13Speaker 2: It's really good to see a big market back at
- 34:17Speaker 2: the big stage before it's been the Pacers, Like, who
- 34:20Speaker 2: the hell knows who Indiana Pacers are? Unless you are
- 34:23Speaker 2: a real big time NBA guy or gal, you're just okay,
- 34:27Speaker 2: the Pacers made the NBA Finals.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I'm not watching that.
- 34:29Speaker 2: That's the kind of the mindset when you hear New
- 34:31Speaker 2: York you're like, Oh, the Knicks are back in the
- 34:34Speaker 2: NBA Finals, versus who oh, we're still waiting now. I
- 34:37Speaker 2: know a lot of fans do not care about OKAC,
- 34:40Speaker 2: but regardless of who makes it out of the West,
- 34:42Speaker 2: it should be a compelling and good NBA Finals. I'm
- 34:45Speaker 2: hoping at least six games, but there are some good
- 34:48Speaker 2: terms with me for the Knicks. But right now, I'm
- 34:50Speaker 2: just excited to see this team get there because they've
- 34:53Speaker 2: had goals of doing that for it felt like a decade,
- 34:56Speaker 2: right they made some big moves, they just had opportunity
- 34:59Speaker 2: to just never got to where they are now. And
- 35:03Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson and this roster they got it done. And
- 35:07Speaker 2: you got to give credit to Brunson, Mike coach, Mike Brown,
- 35:12Speaker 2: everyone just stepping up. Jackson or not jack excuse me,
- 35:17Speaker 2: I'm drawing a blank. I see his face. But nonetheless,
- 35:21Speaker 2: this roster, this team, this city of New York deserves this,
- 35:25Speaker 2: and I'm happy for them because they've been struggling for
- 35:27Speaker 2: a long time.
- 35:28Speaker 1: You get to see Steven akom plain every day about
- 35:30Speaker 1: his my New York Knicks, my Knicks Man, my Knicks man,
- 35:34Speaker 1: and you all know what Stephen is all about now,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and we all know what he's all about.
- 35:38Speaker 2: And now his Knicks are back in the NBA Finals,
- 35:41Speaker 2: and I'm excited for them. It's just really cool to
- 35:45Speaker 2: see this roster and where they've been. And they get
- 35:47Speaker 2: a sweep too. They go out and get what was
- 35:49Speaker 2: his name Karl Anthony Towns. Everyone considers his all. He's
- 35:53Speaker 2: not all that, but he showed to be a force
- 35:56Speaker 2: and an og anobi. He steps up and he's playing
- 35:58Speaker 2: good basketball. Josh Hard is who I was thinking of
- 36:01Speaker 2: a guy that plays his role. He might come off
- 36:04Speaker 2: the bench, he might start. You know what, he does
- 36:06Speaker 2: give one hundred and ten percent every single night, whether
- 36:09Speaker 2: that's on the boards, defense, this this is an awesome
- 36:12Speaker 2: team to root for. If you're a Knicks fan or
- 36:14Speaker 2: if you're just a casual NBA guy, that's just let
- 36:17Speaker 2: me just watch this. This team is definitely gonna pull
- 36:20Speaker 2: you in for sure if you haven't watched them, just
- 36:22Speaker 2: because they play such good basketball. So happy for them,
- 36:26Speaker 2: and I'm excited to see what they can do against
- 36:29Speaker 2: either the OKC Thunder or the San Antonios Burds.
- 36:32Speaker 1: You may hate the big market teams. You may hate
- 36:35Speaker 1: that they're from Gotham City. You may hate that they
- 36:38Speaker 1: have the big bad persona, that they're the major market
- 36:42Speaker 1: team ready to basically clean everybody out. But let's be honest.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Are the Knicks are Is the NBA in a better
- 36:51Speaker 1: spot with the Knicks in the final, well, you have
- 36:54Speaker 1: more people watch that will more people be watching this
- 36:58Speaker 1: the Dodgers, did they not draw some of the biggest
- 37:01Speaker 1: ratings in World Series history last year against the Toronto
- 37:06Speaker 1: Blue Jays. Look at the football side, I mean there's
- 37:09Speaker 1: more parody, obviously, but the Stanley Cup, when say Toronto
- 37:15Speaker 1: was involved, hadn't been a while. But the Rangers, the Kings,
- 37:20Speaker 1: the Blackhawks. It moves the needle. Do you think it
- 37:25Speaker 1: moves a needle here? With the Knicks in the NBA
- 37:27Speaker 1: Finals four nine, four or five to one. Secondly Spurs
- 37:31Speaker 1: that Thunder tonight at five point thirty. I mean, Adam
- 37:35Speaker 1: Silver's perfect world. And maybe we're being cynical about this.
- 37:38Speaker 1: He thought, if the Knicks are gonna sweep this thing's
- 37:41Speaker 1: gotta go at least six games here, because I can't
- 37:44Speaker 1: stand having a league offer eleven days if one team
- 37:47Speaker 1: sweeps the other. But yet this is gonna go at
- 37:50Speaker 1: least six or seven. And San Antonio is giving Oklahoma
- 37:55Speaker 1: City all they can handle, and all of a sudden,
- 37:57Speaker 1: the Thunder are without two of their primary off dribble creators,
- 38:02Speaker 1: and aj Mitchell and Jalen Williams and a quote much
- 38:07Speaker 1: of Seattle we are all Wemby or.
- 38:14Speaker 2: We do not care. We did not care. Everyone who
- 38:17Speaker 2: praise it. Yeah, I think okay SE's up for a challenge.
- 38:20Speaker 2: But they're so deep. Their team is without Jalen, without aj,
- 38:24Speaker 2: I think they will be fine. I think SGA is
- 38:27Speaker 2: gonna have to play a little bit better. But chet
- 38:29Speaker 2: Holmgren I need him to have a chet Holmegan game.
- 38:32Speaker 2: We know he can defend, we know he can rebound.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Does the flopping up with Sga? Is this serious get steeper?
- 38:37Speaker 1: I don't know. If I don't, I think it stays
- 38:39Speaker 1: the same.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he'll just continue doing what he's doing,
- 38:42Speaker 2: getting to the foul line, and I think that'll benefit them.
- 38:46Speaker 2: But I think the way the Santoinis Burst have been
- 38:49Speaker 2: defending him has been really really well. They're they're doing
- 38:53Speaker 2: a really good job. They're making it tough for him,
- 38:55Speaker 2: that's for damn sure. And they played really good defense.
- 38:58Speaker 2: What was on Sunday, they just oh they locked him up.
- 39:01Speaker 2: It was as a team, not just making locking him
- 39:05Speaker 2: down specifically. But yeah, this is a fun series. I
- 39:08Speaker 2: expect okay See to bounce back and tie it up.
- 39:10Speaker 2: We'll see what happens, or okay See to take a
- 39:14Speaker 2: hang on what is this series even at my brain
- 39:16Speaker 2: as it too, So I expect okay See to take
- 39:18Speaker 2: it three to two and then we'll see what happened
- 39:20Speaker 2: they go on the road.
- 39:21Speaker 1: But I don't think okay He's gonna win tonight. I
- 39:23Speaker 1: threw this question out last week and many of you
- 39:26Speaker 1: already chimed in. My favorite was I will step on
- 39:28Speaker 1: a thousand yards of Lego's bare feet to see the
- 39:31Speaker 1: Spurs knock off oka See. But I had this conversation
- 39:34Speaker 1: also with a friend of mine who usually fills in
- 39:36Speaker 1: on these airwaves, and he said, I can't stand New York,
- 39:40Speaker 1: but golly, if Okac be San Antonio, you can have
- 39:46Speaker 1: me start singing, start spreading the news here for the
- 39:48Speaker 1: next two weeks. So are you a Knicks fan that
- 39:51Speaker 1: they face Okaysee in the final four nine four five
- 39:54Speaker 1: one again? Next week? The Cavs Big Game five coming
- 39:57Speaker 1: up the night here Spurs at Thundergod five thirty very
- 40:00Speaker 1: quick before we get out here on the NHL sized
- 40:02Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Game four Western Conference abs in Vegas. I mean, folks,
- 40:06Speaker 1: I'll be real with you, and many of you who
- 40:08Speaker 1: are kracking fans can't stand Vegas and you have valid reasons,
- 40:11Speaker 1: but I think Vegas is gonna win it all at
- 40:13Speaker 1: this point. They're big, they're physical, and their roster is
- 40:18Speaker 1: meticulously built to quickly address any hole to keep them
- 40:22Speaker 1: a winner in sustainable fashion. That's the big key. Mitch Marner,
- 40:29Speaker 1: who they got from Toronto, might win the con smythe
- 40:32Speaker 1: Rasmus Anderson they wanted to add to their depth on defense.
- 40:35Speaker 1: He was a premier target at the trade deadline. And
- 40:38Speaker 1: guess who got Rasmus Anderson from Calgary? It was Vegas.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Jack Eicele trade pickup, Mark Stone trade pick up, Tomas
- 40:46Speaker 1: Hurtle trade pickup. There's nobody who's a serious offensive guy
- 40:51Speaker 1: who has come up here through this system. They trade
- 40:54Speaker 1: draft picks a ton picked or unpicked. So I get
- 40:58Speaker 1: to this here with the Kraken, with this oddus still underway,
- 41:02Speaker 1: the NHL Draft now exactly one month away, where again
- 41:06Speaker 1: we see activity pick up in rapid form of trades
- 41:10Speaker 1: and then free agency on July one. If Vegas wins
- 41:15Speaker 1: a cup, do you look at this as a blessing
- 41:18Speaker 1: in disguise for the Kraken because it could be the
- 41:21Speaker 1: ultimate realization of what we're not doing is not working
- 41:26Speaker 1: and the NHL is a copycat league, so you don't
- 41:29Speaker 1: have to exactly copy what Vegas does. I think a
- 41:32Speaker 1: lot of what they do draws a lot of side eyes,
- 41:34Speaker 1: and for very good reason. But the point is you
- 41:37Speaker 1: can take a hint of what teams do successfully to
- 41:41Speaker 1: build a championship roster, and whether it's them, whether it's
- 41:45Speaker 1: Tampa Bay, whether it is a Florida Panthers who won
- 41:48Speaker 1: back to back. The question is do you draft or
- 41:51Speaker 1: do you trade through this? And we're hearing again they're
- 41:55Speaker 1: not very high on a complete rebuild and they want
- 41:59Speaker 1: to be aggress to overturning this roster. There's a lot
- 42:02Speaker 1: of work to do. But yet, in trading through this,
- 42:06Speaker 1: do you take what Vegas does with a little bit
- 42:08Speaker 1: more of a ruthless approach in overturning this roster and
- 42:12Speaker 1: being okay to make tough decisions. I know Eddie Olcik
- 42:15Speaker 1: said this on Ian's airwaves a few days ago, but
- 42:18Speaker 1: this is where we're headed. So do you look at
- 42:20Speaker 1: Vegas as a blessing in disguise for the Kraken if
- 42:23Speaker 1: they win the Cup? You tell me four nine, four
- 42:25Speaker 1: five to one to Comba dodge text line? All Right,
- 42:28Speaker 1: coming up next, more your reaction here on the Mariners
- 42:30Speaker 1: last night nine to two win. But again still a
- 42:34Speaker 1: lot of unease, but maybe this being a one off,
- 42:37Speaker 1: because again one's an accident, two's a trend. And if
- 42:41Speaker 1: you love the offense, you love last night. But you
- 42:44Speaker 1: want to see this turn into a trend. But for
- 42:47Speaker 1: this piggyback stuff, we're seeing something trend. We'll talk about
- 42:52Speaker 1: it more up next here in ninety three to three
