- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome in Clay Travis show. I hope all of you
- 0:04Speaker 1: are having fantastic Wednesdays wherever you may be around the
- 0:07Speaker 1: country or in the world. I would always like to
- 0:10Speaker 1: tell you, please click like and subscribe. The chat was
- 0:14Speaker 1: fantastic in terms of all the different discussion of chain
- 0:18Speaker 1: restaurants that we had yesterday. If you have a strong
- 0:22Speaker 1: chain restaurant take, you should go back and watch yesterday's
- 0:25Speaker 1: show because I think I broke down basically every chain
- 0:28Speaker 1: restaurant in America. We've got a lot to dive into
- 0:31Speaker 1: today on the program. College football picks got to pick
- 0:34Speaker 1: for you tonight. MTSU minus two and a half minus
- 0:36Speaker 1: one and a half. I think is the current number
- 0:40Speaker 1: that we will be discussing a bit.
- 0:42Speaker 2: There you go.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We lost, unfortunately, Western Kentucky. Big red let us down.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We are on MTSU against Kennesaw State tonight. I'll dive
- 0:51Speaker 1: into more of these college football picks in a bit.
- 0:54Speaker 1: NFL picks are also up and out. We had an awful, awful,
- 0:58Speaker 1: very bad, disastrous weekend of NFL picks. I have got
- 1:03Speaker 1: seven new NFL picks for all of you that are
- 1:06Speaker 1: up there. We will dive into some of that as well.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Many different stories that are out there that I want
- 1:14Speaker 1: to dive into. And I actually want to start with
- 1:19Speaker 1: a couple of news stories that came down just a
- 1:21Speaker 1: little bit ago. First of all, Ernie Johnson has announced
- 1:25Speaker 1: that he is retiring from inside the NBA, that this
- 1:28Speaker 1: will be.
- 1:29Speaker 2: His final year at the helm.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think that inside the NBA is the best sports
- 1:36Speaker 1: television show that has ever been made. I think that
- 1:40Speaker 1: Ernie Johnson is the most seamless, the best sort of
- 1:47Speaker 1: conductor of the orchestra. I have said this for a
- 1:50Speaker 1: long time. Charles Barkley, most entertaining former athlete to ever
- 1:54Speaker 1: do television. Great sports media personality. Ernie Johnson was the
- 1:59Speaker 1: straight man who set up many of the best moments
- 2:03Speaker 1: of Charles Barkley's media career. Ernie Johnson, consummate professional, really
- 2:08Speaker 1: talented guy. Best of luck to him going forward. I
- 2:12Speaker 1: know he's had health challenges. He just put up a
- 2:15Speaker 1: video saying it's time. All-time legend. Ernie Johnson, best wishes
- 2:21Speaker 1: to him going forward. A lot of you have been
- 2:23Speaker 1: reaching out, and we're going to get into a bunch
- 2:26Speaker 1: of the Cheesecake Gate controversy here in a moment, but
- 2:28Speaker 1: a lot of you have also been reaching out about
- 2:31Speaker 1: the Pat McAfee controversy. Pat McAfee upset at his reception
- 2:38Speaker 1: at the University of Utah, and he went on his
- 2:41Speaker 1: show and talked about how he couldn't help but think
- 2:45Speaker 1: about the Charlie Kirk incident, the shooting that happened at
- 2:48Speaker 1: a different Utah campus, and he wasn't happy with the
- 2:51Speaker 1: reception that he got on the campus.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And here is what I would say in general.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I have long thought, and I hope I am wrong
- 3:00Speaker 1: about this, that one of the most vulnerable to terror
- 3:04Speaker 1: attack situations in modern America life is the live shows
- 3:12Speaker 1: at big sporting events with huge crowds surrounding them. So
- 3:17Speaker 1: I know a lot of people in sports media have
- 3:19Speaker 1: ripped Pat McAfee. And I just have to say, I
- 3:24Speaker 1: totally get where Pat McAfee is coming from. I have
- 3:27Speaker 1: been concerned for a very long time that in a
- 3:30Speaker 1: live broadcast situation, it's virtually impossible to stop someone from
- 3:35Speaker 1: trying to shoot you. And I know this is dark
- 3:39Speaker 1: and that people sometimes just want, you know, the sunshine stories.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But I talked about this live on my show back
- 3:46Speaker 1: when I did Sports Talk Radio with Fox Sports Radio
- 3:50Speaker 1: and Danny G, who's going to be on with me
- 3:52Speaker 1: in a bit doing the Animal Thunderdome, which will be
- 3:54Speaker 1: light and airy and fun. I remember the year that
- 3:59Speaker 1: we were at the Minneapolis, the Mall of America. William,
- 4:05Speaker 1: if you can look up what year that was, I
- 4:07Speaker 1: want to say it was like 2019, maybe right before
- 4:12Speaker 1: everything got shut down. Maybe it was 2018, right before.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It was before COVID. 2020 was a Miami Super Bowl.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It might have been 2018, thereabouts. we were broadcasting live.
- 4:26Speaker 1: They put Radio Row in the Mall of America for
- 4:31Speaker 1: the Super Bowl that was going on up there. And
- 4:34Speaker 1: it was, let's see, it was January of 2018. So
- 4:39Speaker 1: I was doing the Outkick the Coverage Fox Sports Radio
- 4:43Speaker 1: morning show. Danny G, Jason Martin was my producer. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: we got there and we did the show live as
- 4:50Speaker 1: we often did when there was almost no one else there.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I was live at 5 a.m. Central. It's pitch black outside.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It's freezing.
- 4:59Speaker 1: We were staying in the Mall of America for part
- 5:02Speaker 1: of it. Then I had to walk from another hotel.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I just remember 4.20 in the morning. It's minus 20
- 5:07Speaker 1: degrees or whatever the heck it was in January of 2018,
- 5:12Speaker 1: trying to walk across that parking lot and just thinking,
- 5:14Speaker 1: what in the world? What choices have I made with
- 5:17Speaker 1: my life that this is the scenario that we're in?
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I was there on Monday. And I remember they had...
- 5:23Speaker 1: It was wide open. The whole mall was open.
- 5:26Speaker 2: There was virtually no security.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And everyone was set there to do live sports talk
- 5:33Speaker 1: or radio. And that first day, I turned to my producers.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I turned to Danny G. I bet he'll remember it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And I said, we are just absolute sitting ducks here.
- 5:46Speaker 1: One guy with a gun... could come in while all
- 5:50Speaker 1: these different radio shows are live on the air and
- 5:53Speaker 1: open up fire, and it would be almost impossible for
- 5:57Speaker 1: him not to hit us. And I think about things
- 6:01Speaker 1: like this all the time. I think Pat McAfee's fear
- 6:07Speaker 1: that with the ratcheting up of negativity, with the fact
- 6:11Speaker 1: that everyone who has a job like mine, like his,
- 6:16Speaker 1: we regularly get serious death threats. We had security outside
- 6:22Speaker 1: of my house for the 2024 election because people were
- 6:26Speaker 1: sending mail death threats to my house saying they were
- 6:30Speaker 1: going to kill me and counting down the days until
- 6:33Speaker 1: they could do it. We now live behind a lot
- 6:37Speaker 1: of armed security for that exact reason. I think that
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the wake of Charlie Kirk, it is eminently reasonable
- 6:45Speaker 1: for Pat McAfee to have that concern. By the way,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I don't think it's exclusive to Pat McAfee. I bet
- 6:53Speaker 1: that Kirk Herbstreet would say the same thing. I bet
- 6:56Speaker 1: that Nick Saban would say the same thing. I bet
- 6:58Speaker 1: that Desmond Howard would say the same thing. I bet
- 7:03Speaker 1: that Matt Leinart would say the same thing. Brady Quinn
- 7:06Speaker 1: would say the same thing. Anybody who sits on a
- 7:08Speaker 1: desk like that in a public venue... It is hard
- 7:13Speaker 1: not to think about somebody deciding to engage in terror
- 7:17Speaker 1: while there is live television going on, or in the
- 7:19Speaker 1: case of the radio show, while there is live radio
- 7:24Speaker 1: going on. And people may say, Clay, why do you
- 7:27Speaker 1: mention this? It's a dark thought. It's 100% correct. It
- 7:30Speaker 1: is a dark thought. But Pat McAfee has brought it up.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And I've actually seen a lot of people saying, suck
- 7:36Speaker 1: it up. Stop whining. I actually think his fear there
- 7:41Speaker 1: is 100% justified. I believe he said that the FBI
- 7:44Speaker 1: had told him that he should start wearing a flak
- 7:45Speaker 1: jacket everywhere that he goes.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It doesn't surprise me at all.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm sure that he has to have substantial amounts of security.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I mean, heck, we had Enos... Ennis Cantor freedom on
- 7:56Speaker 1: yesterday on the Clay and Buck show.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And then I went out, we may have a photo
- 8:00Speaker 2: of it.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Then I went out and spoke at the Marsha Blackburn rally.
- 8:04Speaker 1: She's going to be the next governor of Tennessee. There's
- 8:07Speaker 1: my buddy, Johnny Garrett used to play little league baseball
- 8:10Speaker 1: with him back in the day. Now he's going to
- 8:12Speaker 1: get elected to Congress from the sixth congressional district of Tennessee,
- 8:17Speaker 1: little league baseball to the halls of Congress.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Pretty cool for him. If you're in Tennessee six, go
- 8:22Speaker 2: vote for him. Here are a couple of other pictures.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Here is Ennis Cantor Freedom with Johnny and some of
- 8:29Speaker 2: his family. You can start to scroll through these.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They had security arrayed against the entire back wall, and
- 8:35Speaker 1: Ennis Cantor Freedom, because he decided to declare for the WNBA,
- 8:40Speaker 1: is now deluged in death threats and has to have
- 8:44Speaker 1: armed security.
- 8:44Speaker 2: With him at all times.
- 8:47Speaker 1: This is the world that we live in, and a
- 8:49Speaker 1: lot of people don't talk about it, and a lot
- 8:51Speaker 1: of people don't discuss it. Most of the violence is
- 8:54Speaker 1: coming from the left wing in this country. And if
- 8:57Speaker 1: you ask me, Clay, what is one of your biggest
- 9:00Speaker 1: regrets about the way we have responded to the Charlie
- 9:03Speaker 1: Kirk assassination? It's that a lot of people decided that
- 9:08Speaker 1: Charlie Kirk wasn't killed. which I believe all of the
- 9:12Speaker 1: evidence reflects that he was, by a radical left-wing trans
- 9:18Speaker 1: activist who was motivated by trans ideology to kill Charlie Kirk.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I think all of the evidence supports that's why he
- 9:25Speaker 2: did it. We'll see.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You can watch the trial for yourself. You don't have
- 9:28Speaker 1: to agree with me. But I think he's going to
- 9:31Speaker 1: be convicted of first-degree murder. I think all of the
- 9:34Speaker 1: evidence is quite clear. It's overwhelming. Instead of that conversation,
- 9:39Speaker 1: a bunch of people said, oh, Israel killed him.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Oh, it was somebody else. It was some right-wing zealot.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And instead of having a real conversation about trans violence
- 9:50Speaker 1: and how angry and violent so many of these people
- 9:55Speaker 1: can be, instead of having that real conversation, we largely
- 9:59Speaker 1: dodged that conversation. And instead, everybody sat around and argued that, oh,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's a conspiracy. And anyway, I just think,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I got Pat McAfee's back on this. Now, if you
- 10:12Speaker 1: wanna argue, hey, individual videos or you don't need to
- 10:16Speaker 1: be offended by them, everything else, I think you need
- 10:18Speaker 1: to think about where his mind is And I don't
- 10:22Speaker 1: think he's crazy to have his mind there in a
- 10:25Speaker 1: position that when you're in an outdoor venue, it is
- 10:29Speaker 1: incredibly difficult to secure. And I feel like as someone
- 10:34Speaker 1: who is on television there, you have no idea what's
- 10:36Speaker 1: going on around you. You are a proverbial sitting duck,
- 10:39Speaker 1: just like we were when we were doing radio in Minneapolis.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And I believe, did it some guy go into the
- 10:45Speaker 1: Minneapolis Mall of America with a gun and try to
- 10:49Speaker 1: kill as many people as he could?
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm not making that up.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I don't think, I think it happened a few years later,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but I remember when I saw that headline, I said,
- 10:57Speaker 1: of course, like there's very limited security. There's a huge population.
- 11:01Speaker 1: The danger is Legion for many different people there. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: all of that going on. So I got Pat McAfee's
- 11:09Speaker 1: back on that one. WNBA, 1230 Eastern tomorrow. The WNBA,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I am told, I haven't watched any of these games
- 11:19Speaker 1: because it's football season. I am told that the WNBA
- 11:22Speaker 1: is playing its potential clinching game of its season tomorrow
- 11:28Speaker 1: at 1230 p.m.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Eastern in Atlanta. That is 930 a.m.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Eastern for everybody that happens to be a fan of
- 11:36Speaker 1: the team that I believe is from San Francisco playing
- 11:39Speaker 1: against the team that is from Atlanta.
- 11:42Speaker 2: This league is run by morons.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Now, a bunch of you out there will point out
- 11:47Speaker 1: that I regularly talk about where games are scheduled because
- 11:52Speaker 1: as a fan, that matters a great deal to me.
- 11:55Speaker 1: In fact, I'm going to tee off here in a
- 11:57Speaker 1: moment on BYU-Utah being scheduled.
- 12:01Speaker 2: For 10 a.m.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Mountain time in a couple of weeks for one of
- 12:05Speaker 1: the best rivalries that exists in all of sports. 12.30 p.m.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Eastern tip time is insanely dumb. The WNBA on its
- 12:18Speaker 1: signature product involving the biggest possible audience that it could
- 12:22Speaker 1: have should be doing everything it can to maximize that audience.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And I just look at the WNBA and every time
- 12:30Speaker 1: they have an opportunity to make a good decision, it
- 12:33Speaker 1: feels like leadership takes them in the bad direction, in
- 12:38Speaker 1: the worst direction of where they need to be headed.
- 12:41Speaker 1: So this is, regardless of who you are a fan of,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I have regularly teed off Atlanta Braves games all being
- 12:48Speaker 1: played in the afternoon I thought was unfair earlier in
- 12:52Speaker 1: the postseason. I think that putting the WNBA at 1230
- 12:56Speaker 1: on a random Thursday is a poor decision. I'm not
- 12:59Speaker 1: going to be watching it probably anyway. And I think
- 13:03Speaker 1: that this is just further... evidence of fans regularly being
- 13:09Speaker 1: served poorly by the sports that they choose to watch.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And earlier this year, a lot of BYU fans were
- 13:18Speaker 1: angry at me because I said it didn't make sense
- 13:21Speaker 1: to not have SEC games in primetime. And now we
- 13:25Speaker 1: got BYU Utah that is kicking off at 10 a.m.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Mountain Time in a couple of weeks.
- 13:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So unlike most people out there, I'm going to have
- 13:37Speaker 1: your back. This may be the only thing that unites
- 13:39Speaker 1: BYU and Utah fans. This is beyond ridiculous. One of
- 13:44Speaker 1: the best rivalries in all of sports is the Holy War.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Utah is undefeated. BYU has just one loss with the
- 13:52Speaker 1: win over Notre Dame. This is one of the biggest
- 13:55Speaker 1: Holy Wars that has ever existed in the history of
- 13:58Speaker 1: the rivalry.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And they're going to kick it off at 10 a.m.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Mountain Time.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I told you I thought it was absurd that Texas,
- 14:05Speaker 1: Florida kicked off at 11 a.m.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Central.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I told you it was indefensible that LSU was hosting
- 14:11Speaker 1: Mississippi State at 11 a.m.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Central. This is an hour earlier than that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Now, sometimes a game schedule like this can make sense
- 14:20Speaker 1: when it's not necessarily a great game, and that's the
- 14:24Speaker 1: only way that they will be able to have an audience.
- 14:27Speaker 2: It's a great game.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Admittedly, November 7th is stacked with a phenomenal slate of games.
- 14:33Speaker 1: To put BYU Utah at 10 a.m. Mountain is a
- 14:38Speaker 1: crime against college football humanity. Whether you are a Ute
- 14:42Speaker 1: or a Cougar, you are being screwed with this choice.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I got your back.
- 14:48Speaker 1: You might not have liked me earlier when I was
- 14:50Speaker 1: talking about BYU Notre Dame scheduling.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Here, you guys have been wronged.
- 14:55Speaker 1: This is one reason I believe we need a national
- 14:59Speaker 1: college football scheduling czar. We can't have a week where
- 15:04Speaker 1: there's eight good games and another week where there's one
- 15:07Speaker 1: good game. The NFL would never do this. The NFL
- 15:11Speaker 1: looks at the totality of its schedule. It puts the
- 15:14Speaker 1: best games in the best viewing windows. It creates maximal
- 15:19Speaker 1: audience for its product. And the goal, the goal of
- 15:24Speaker 1: sports is the goal of basically any business is to
- 15:28Speaker 1: have as many people as possible consuming your product. That's
- 15:33Speaker 1: the reality. And in the case of BYU, Utah, things
- 15:39Speaker 1: have failed.
- 15:40Speaker 2: All right. This one's a little spicy. LSU.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with the SEC. LSU football,
- 15:51Speaker 1: more than anything in the world, desires for its games
- 15:55Speaker 1: to be at night. William, look up how many night
- 16:00Speaker 1: games LSU has ended up with this year.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I know they had a night game against Clemson. I'm
- 16:05Speaker 2: talking about big competitor, big signature night games.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Biggest game in Death Valley, if you ask LSU fans
- 16:15Speaker 1: beyond a shadow of a doubt, it is Alabama coming
- 16:18Speaker 1: to LSU.
- 16:20Speaker 2: LSU hates Alabama.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That game has been at night far as long I
- 16:26Speaker 1: can remember when both teams are good. This year, the
- 16:30Speaker 1: SEC put it at 2.30 Central local time, 3.30 Eastern.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I think the SEC sent LSU and Alabama a message.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Alabama's fine with it. They'd rather play in the day.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I think they sent LSU a message. If you are
- 16:49Speaker 1: going to screw with us, then your signature games, your
- 16:54Speaker 1: events that you hold most dear, we're going to make
- 16:57Speaker 1: them earlier in the day, and we are not going
- 17:01Speaker 1: to allow you to play at night at home. Big games, yes,
- 17:07Speaker 1: on the road. They have had a lot of early games.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Mississippi State, Auburn, last two games, both noon kicks, now 230.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't think this is coincidental.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Now, to be fair, Georgia on the road against Ole Miss,
- 17:25Speaker 1: arguably a better game. Because Georgia only has one loss,
- 17:30Speaker 1: Ole Miss has two. But I actually think LSU Alabama
- 17:34Speaker 1: would have more viewers because LSU and Alabama combined are
- 17:38Speaker 1: bigger brands than Ole Miss and Georgia. So I think
- 17:42Speaker 1: that was a message. I think the SEC over the
- 17:45Speaker 1: lawsuit is letting LSU have it in sort of a
- 17:49Speaker 1: cold war, in sort of a passive-aggressive way. I think
- 17:54Speaker 1: this is designed to punish LSU for what the league
- 17:59Speaker 1: sees as intransigence when it comes to the way that
- 18:03Speaker 1: they are behaving in the league. All right, let's hit
- 18:08Speaker 1: the college football picks since we just had a big
- 18:10Speaker 1: college football take there. These are all the picks. I
- 18:15Speaker 1: believe I have 15 of them. My blood bank guarantee,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I love USC, not just beating Ohio State. I think
- 18:26Speaker 1: that USC will beat Ohio State outright. But I'm taking
- 18:31Speaker 1: the seven just to be safe. I like the under
- 18:34Speaker 1: in this game too. To me, this is the Lincoln-Riley
- 18:40Speaker 1: circle the wagons game. This is Troy is under siege
- 18:44Speaker 1: and we're not going to allow the Greeks to take
- 18:46Speaker 1: Troy yet. And so we're not going to allow the
- 18:50Speaker 1: Trojan horse to come in. Kind of tough to be
- 18:53Speaker 1: the Trojans, right? people who study ancient history. Great story,
- 19:01Speaker 1: but you don't really want to lose Iliad.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Go read it.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You don't really want to lose Troy, but like Hector,
- 19:09Speaker 1: the defender of the walls of Troy, my favorite Trojan character,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I believe that we will see Troy, at least in
- 19:21Speaker 1: the short term, the men of Troy, They are going
- 19:24Speaker 1: to get the V for victory, and they are going
- 19:27Speaker 1: to beat Ohio State. To me, it's the best game
- 19:30Speaker 1: of Halloween weekend. We're going to have a flooded, incredible crowd.
- 19:35Speaker 1: We are going to have tons of Ohio State fans.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I bet it's at least 40% of the Coliseum. And
- 19:42Speaker 1: USC is going to win outright. I think it helps
- 19:45Speaker 1: that Ohio State is going to have a true freshman
- 19:48Speaker 1: quarterback who has never played in a game this big.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I love the under, but my blood bank guarantee type
- 19:54Speaker 1: the veins.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Boys is USC getting the win over Ohio state. Let's
- 20:01Speaker 2: pull up.
- 20:01Speaker 1: We got a couple of different big bets, parlays inside
- 20:05Speaker 1: of hard rock bet. This one, if you see it there,
- 20:11Speaker 1: pays out at plus 1504. I'm on Florida plus 11
- 20:15Speaker 1: and a half. This is an underdog parlay. Auburn plus
- 20:19Speaker 1: 12 and a half. I love Auburn this weekend against
- 20:22Speaker 1: Ole Miss. You got Ole Miss coming off Texas before Georgia.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Ole Miss has struggled against the run. Byron Brown can
- 20:29Speaker 1: run the football. Auburn is better in the run game
- 20:32Speaker 1: than they are in the passing game. I think this
- 20:35Speaker 1: number is too big. I've got Purdue plus seven and
- 20:37Speaker 1: a half. And I have the under 50 and a
- 20:41Speaker 1: half in the Ohio State USC game you can go
- 20:47Speaker 1: find me if you go to hardrock.bet slash clay bet
- 20:51Speaker 1: five dollars and you can get up to five hundred
- 20:54Speaker 1: dollars in no sweat bets if you are a new
- 20:57Speaker 1: user only for new customers you can play in Arizona
- 21:01Speaker 1: Colorado remember the only legal sports book in Florida is
- 21:05Speaker 1: hardrock bet Illinois Indiana Michigan New Jersey Ohio Tennessee and
- 21:09Speaker 1: Virginia need to be present in those states to sign
- 21:12Speaker 1: up You don't have to live there. You can just
- 21:14Speaker 1: be present in it. Hard rock dot bet slash clay. OK,
- 21:19Speaker 1: let's dive into also our NFL picks. And we have
- 21:24Speaker 1: a NFL all sides part. Well, here are my picks.
- 21:27Speaker 1: We were a disaster last week. Panthers on the road
- 21:31Speaker 1: at the Packers to start Thursday night football. The final
- 21:34Speaker 1: game of the week, I believe, Monday night football, Bear Seahawks.
- 21:38Speaker 1: So we have Thursday night football. We have a Monday
- 21:42Speaker 1: night football best game, assuming that Lamar Jackson plays. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: I do think Lamar Jackson will play Ravens at bills.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I love the over here. I like the bills minus three.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It is my favorite pick. If I could only watch
- 21:58Speaker 1: one game of the weekend. And I believe we have
- 22:02Speaker 1: some hard rock picks here. that are also included here.
- 22:05Speaker 1: There you go. Popular bets for me. Those are my
- 22:09Speaker 1: NFL picks. And in fact, let's see if I can
- 22:13Speaker 1: find these live right now with all of you.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I live in Tennessee and I should be able to
- 22:19Speaker 2: go in.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Let's see if I can find the Hard Rock Bet
- 22:23Speaker 1: app to be able to go in and actually make
- 22:28Speaker 1: my bets live with all of you. It is super
- 22:31Speaker 1: easy to do. Let me go ahead.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Let me see.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I got to type in my code. And I got
- 22:41Speaker 1: to focus to make sure I get the code right.
- 22:46Speaker 2: All right. Did I do it correctly? All right.
- 22:48Speaker 1: So I can go in here and you can find me.
- 22:52Speaker 1: If you go in, you see that picture right there.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm making a bet live on the air with all
- 22:58Speaker 1: of you. It's super easy to do. Just look for
- 23:01Speaker 1: me in that white shirt.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Boom. I have made my bet. You can make your
- 23:06Speaker 2: bets as well. Okay.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Let's dive into a couple of other stories that are
- 23:12Speaker 1: out there. Did we play the picture from outside of Nashville?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Senator Marsha Blackburn is going to be the next governor
- 23:21Speaker 1: of Tennessee. I don't know if we put up pictures
- 23:24Speaker 1: of me and Ennis. I saw Ennis with other people.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I think we may have put all of those picks
- 23:30Speaker 1: that were up there. Let me dive in here. Let
- 23:34Speaker 1: me see if there's any other things that I want
- 23:36Speaker 1: to get in.
- 23:36Speaker 2: The world of sports. All right, let's talk Cheesecake Factory Gate.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Now, look, they have spent now around five days trying
- 23:47Speaker 1: to defend Barack Obama making an elitist joke.
- 23:52Speaker 2: He said that basically the Oval.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Office, the White House, it looked like a blinged out
- 23:58Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory designed by Saddam Hussein. Cheesecake Factory is high end.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Evidence is overwhelming that Cheesecake Factory is high end. I
- 24:08Speaker 1: don't think Obama has been to a chain restaurant in years.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I have been, if you watch yesterday's show, basically to
- 24:14Speaker 1: every chain restaurant in recent history.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I said on the.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Clay and Buck show yesterday, I last ate at a
- 24:22Speaker 1: cheesecake factory with my wife in Miami on the promenade
- 24:27Speaker 1: there in South Beach sometime in the last year or so.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Usually I get, and I don't have the menu in
- 24:33Speaker 1: front of me because it's like 100 pages. I try
- 24:35Speaker 1: to eat something healthy, believe it or not, at the
- 24:37Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory. I like their steak skewers. I think they're
- 24:41Speaker 1: called steak medallions, something like that. It's a healthy, relatively speaking,
- 24:46Speaker 1: cheesecake meal. So the guy at the bulwark, this guy,
- 24:50Speaker 1: Tim Miller, he decided, oh, my God, we're going to
- 24:53Speaker 1: investigate Clay Travis. He is lying about having grown up
- 24:57Speaker 1: and eaten at the Cheesecake Factory. I'm like, I've eaten
- 25:00Speaker 1: at the Cheesecake Factory basically my entire life. Now, do
- 25:04Speaker 1: I know exactly what year it opened in Nashville?
- 25:07Speaker 2: No, I do not.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Do I know that I went to college in Washington, D.C.,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and there was Cheesecake Factory there?
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. Do I know that there were Cheesecake Factories
- 25:16Speaker 2: in Atlanta? Yes.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Do I know what time they open? No, I do
- 25:19Speaker 1: not know. I know that I have eaten at the
- 25:21Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory quite a lot. In fact, my parents yesterday,
- 25:25Speaker 1: as I said on the show, were eating at the
- 25:27Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory.
- 25:28Speaker 2: My parents love the Cheesecake Factory.
- 25:31Speaker 1: The Green Hills Cheesecake Factory in Nashville is almost impossible
- 25:34Speaker 1: to get into for much of the last 20 years.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Same thing is true, I don't know how long it's
- 25:39Speaker 1: been open, down at Cool Springs, okay? What I think
- 25:43Speaker 1: is interesting about this is these guys are treating the
- 25:46Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory like it is the most significant story on
- 25:50Speaker 1: the planet. And I just asked Tim, I've known Tim,
- 25:54Speaker 1: who now works at the Bulwark.
- 25:55Speaker 2: He used to be a Republican.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I've known Tim for a decade now because he reached
- 26:00Speaker 1: out to me About a decade ago, maybe 11 years ago,
- 26:04Speaker 1: a long time ago, when he was working with Jeb
- 26:08Speaker 1: Bush and he said, Clay, I'm a huge fan. We
- 26:11Speaker 1: want Jeb Bush to do an interview with you. Will
- 26:14Speaker 1: you do an interview with Jeb? And that's probably out
- 26:18Speaker 1: there somewhere. I imagine people could find it. I did
- 26:21Speaker 1: an interview with Jeb Bush at the University of Miami
- 26:25Speaker 1: football complex because Jeb Bush is actually a big Miami
- 26:29Speaker 1: Hurricane fan. And I liked Jeb Bush. I thought he
- 26:32Speaker 1: was a nice guy. I thought the interview went well.
- 26:36Speaker 1: It was while he was running against Donald Trump. And
- 26:41Speaker 1: the campaign guy, the Tim Miller, that's when I met him, said, man,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I love you. I love your books. We want you
- 26:48Speaker 1: to do an interview with Jeb Bush so we can
- 26:51Speaker 1: reach young male voters. And so we did it. And
- 26:54Speaker 1: it aired on FS1, if I remember correctly. It aired
- 26:57Speaker 1: on podcasts, YouTube channels, like all this different stuff.
- 27:00Speaker 2: It was cool. I was glad to do it.
- 27:01Speaker 1: That's the first time I think that I really interviewed
- 27:05Speaker 1: a American political candidate. Certainly the first time that I
- 27:08Speaker 1: interviewed anybody running for president. But I don't understand how
- 27:13Speaker 1: this is a controversy. I would just ask Tim this.
- 27:16Speaker 1: If you're going to investigate things, Why don't you investigate
- 27:21Speaker 1: Elon Omar instead of worrying about the number of times
- 27:24Speaker 1: that I've eaten at the Cheesecake Factory or what restaurants
- 27:28Speaker 1: I like or how often my mom and dad took
- 27:30Speaker 1: me to the Cheesecake Factory or how often my in-laws
- 27:33Speaker 1: took me to the Cheesecake Factory?
- 27:34Speaker 2: The answer is a lot.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Oftentimes, when I didn't have the money to pay for
- 27:38Speaker 1: it myself, as I believe adults, if they can, should
- 27:42Speaker 1: be paying when your kids are young, should be paying
- 27:46Speaker 1: as often as they can. I told my boys, if
- 27:49Speaker 1: we go out to dinner, dad's paying for the rest
- 27:50Speaker 1: of your life. My dad still tries to give me
- 27:53Speaker 1: $ 20 bills every time I go visit him just about
- 27:57Speaker 1: because he just wants to give me cash, right?
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's what parents do.
- 28:01Speaker 1: But if you want to focus on something that is
- 28:04Speaker 1: worthy of investigation, Maybe the bulwark could try to figure
- 28:09Speaker 1: out why Ilhan Omar allegedly married her gay brother.
- 28:16Speaker 2: That seems like kind of a big story.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Or maybe the bulwark, instead of the New York Times,
- 28:22Speaker 1: if they want to do investigations, maybe they could actually
- 28:26Speaker 1: investigate why Alaska is, right now, Alaskan Democrats, Mary Peltola,
- 28:34Speaker 1: why they are trying to completely subvert and cheat the
- 28:38Speaker 1: Democrat process in the state of Alaska by putting a
- 28:42Speaker 1: guy with the exact same name, basically, on the ballot
- 28:48Speaker 1: to try to confuse Alaskans so that they don't vote
- 28:52Speaker 1: for the right person. The New York Times did this investigation.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Serious stories that actually deserve your attention. considering that you
- 29:02Speaker 1: are now a journalist, why not go and dive in there?
- 29:07Speaker 1: I think, again, do we have the graphic from the
- 29:09Speaker 1: New York Times? I give the New York Times credit
- 29:10Speaker 1: for doing this story. The New York Times has discovered
- 29:16Speaker 1: and has ample evidence based on the article that I
- 29:19Speaker 1: read that Mary Peltola and her team directly sought someone
- 29:26Speaker 1: named Dan Sullivan to Dan J. Sullivan, as you can see,
- 29:31Speaker 1: to try to confuse people and get them to vote
- 29:34Speaker 1: for him as opposed to Dan S.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Sullivan.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Now, look, I think this is fraud. I think this
- 29:41Speaker 1: is criminal. If you intentionally try to confuse people to
- 29:46Speaker 1: vote in a way that is contrary to their intent
- 29:50Speaker 1: and it is your direct intent to confuse them, I
- 29:54Speaker 1: think that that is a criminal act that you have undertaken.
- 30:00Speaker 1: And if you remember, it wasn't that long ago that
- 30:05Speaker 1: Hillary Clinton, someone made a joke, a meme, encouraging people
- 30:11Speaker 1: to vote in a different way. I think it was
- 30:13Speaker 1: by text, something like that. They sentenced the guy to
- 30:17Speaker 1: seven months in prison for what he said was a
- 30:22Speaker 1: joke on social media because they said it was an
- 30:25Speaker 1: attack on democracy. Well, if a joke about how to
- 30:29Speaker 1: vote on social media gets a guy seven months in prison,
- 30:34Speaker 1: how in the world is it legal to intentionally confuse
- 30:40Speaker 1: Alaskan voters and try to get them to vote for
- 30:44Speaker 1: a guy by the same name?
- 30:45Speaker 2: This is like, for those of you who remember the
- 30:47Speaker 2: Eddie Murphy.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Movie, Distinguished Gentleman back in the day, This is basically
- 30:54Speaker 1: distinguished gentlemen brought to light. So I do think all
- 31:00Speaker 1: of this is very entertaining and also very significant. And
- 31:08Speaker 1: I just think it's interesting that this organization that claims
- 31:13Speaker 1: to be so committed to democracy and truth and, oh,
- 31:16Speaker 1: Donald Trump is the worst person who's ever existed in
- 31:18Speaker 1: the history of mankind– They don't actually cover any of
- 31:21Speaker 1: these stories. But God forbid, Clay Travis talk about the
- 31:25Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory. Let's investigate what he actually ate at the
- 31:29Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And I did. And I love it.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And I feel fortunate to be able to eat anywhere
- 31:37Speaker 1: that I want now. But I'll probably eat at the
- 31:39Speaker 1: Cheesecake Factory soon.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Again. Okay, a couple of.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Other things that are out there. This is actually a
- 31:45Speaker 1: positive story. I can't believe it.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Awful announcing.
- 31:48Speaker 1: which has spent about 15 years only writing awful things
- 31:53Speaker 1: about me, actually wrote something nice about us at Sport
- 31:58Speaker 1: and State. And here is that. I will read that.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I give awful announcing credit. It's relatively rare that people
- 32:07Speaker 1: write nice things about me. Travis is back on the
- 32:10Speaker 1: sports scene in a major way after launching Sport & State,
- 32:13Speaker 1: a new digital media company built largely around a slate
- 32:16Speaker 1: of live sports talk shows on YouTube. While Travis continues
- 32:20Speaker 1: to examine sports through the lens of right-wing social causes,
- 32:22Speaker 1: he now relies on a roster of other hosts who
- 32:26Speaker 1: do more straight sports talk. If the new lineup hits,
- 32:29Speaker 1: we may be talking about Travis as a kingmaker in
- 32:32Speaker 1: this wave of digital video content the same way we
- 32:35Speaker 1: did when he was at the forefront of blogging and
- 32:38Speaker 1: cable news.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Aw, that's so sweet.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Now, on the flip side, Mediate says, I'm a huge
- 32:45Speaker 1: liar because I said that I ate at... at Cheesecake
- 32:50Speaker 1: Factory when I was a kid. And it actually turns
- 32:54Speaker 1: out I didn't eat there until I was 18 or
- 32:56Speaker 1: 16 or whatever the heck the age was.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 33:00Speaker 1: How will I ever recover? This is what passes for news.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I do think, however, as long as they spell the
- 33:06Speaker 1: name correctly, I am always happy whenever anybody is writing
- 33:11Speaker 1: about me because it just brings more people into the website.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Also, we got a couple of fun hate mail. I
- 33:18Speaker 2: get a lot of hate mail.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I don't check my DMS that often, uh, but every
- 33:23Speaker 1: now and then I do like.
- 33:24Speaker 2: To share hate mail.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I will say overwhelmingly, you guys send me super nice things,
- 33:31Speaker 1: but sharing super nice things is not as entertaining. It
- 33:34Speaker 1: doesn't seem to me as sharing, uh, mean things. And so, uh,
- 33:40Speaker 1: Here are a couple of those haters.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I'm not sure which one is up first. Here is
- 33:46Speaker 1: the first one. You sound like an idiot, says Susan.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Please shut up about the Cheesecake Factory. You sound like
- 33:53Speaker 1: a moron. Cheesecake Factory is gold. Trump turned the White
- 33:57Speaker 1: House gold. Shut the fuck up, maggot. Get over yourself.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Thank you, Susan, for being a fan. We also have
- 34:06Speaker 1: some guy said, I'd like to point out this month,
- 34:10Speaker 1: Clay Travis is one month older than me. This is
- 34:13Speaker 1: me coming off a triple shift at 47 years old.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And this guy posted a selfie in my mentions, which
- 34:23Speaker 1: is super weird. I don't remember the last time I
- 34:26Speaker 1: took a selfie. I certainly don't remember the last time
- 34:29Speaker 1: I took a selfie and posted it on social media. Uh,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but the responses are kind of amazing. You look a
- 34:36Speaker 1: few years older than Clay Travis. Also, what's with all
- 34:39Speaker 1: the gay flags? A triple shift cooking? You're certainly a
- 34:44Speaker 1: man's man. You can't delete this quickly enough. Would have
- 34:47Speaker 1: guessed you were mid-50s. Clay looks 42 to.
- 34:51Speaker 2: 43, tops. I'll take it. Is this supposed to impress us?
- 34:55Speaker 2: You look objectively older than 47.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Grown man acting like a 12-year-old girl.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Good job.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Dude, you look late 50s. This is not the brag
- 35:05Speaker 1: you think it is. I didn't know Starbucks. These are
- 35:08Speaker 1: just the top comments here. I didn't know Starbucks, well
- 35:12Speaker 1: done by you guys, offered triple shifts. This is not
- 35:15Speaker 1: the dunk you thought it was. I'm four years older
- 35:19Speaker 1: and had to ask the two females sipping coffee next
- 35:22Speaker 1: to me who they thought was older. You look about
- 35:24Speaker 1: the same age. He looks tired, though. That is not
- 35:28Speaker 1: a 47-year-old's forehead. I'm in my 60s, and I don't
- 35:31Speaker 1: have a furrow that deep. There's not one thing wrong
- 35:34Speaker 1: with your hair or your looks. These people are assholes.
- 35:38Speaker 1: That's one positive guy. And then the guy immediately responds,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I know that. So there's still time to delete this.
- 35:45Speaker 1: This 47-year-old dude took this selfie, definitely took multiple trying
- 35:49Speaker 1: to find the best one, said, yeah, I'm going to
- 35:51Speaker 1: post this on the internet so people can see how
- 35:53Speaker 1: good I look. The mentality of a 16-year-old girl. You
- 35:57Speaker 1: also look like a 47-year-old who just worked a triple shift.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Sorry, bud. Honest question. What made you post this? You
- 36:04Speaker 2: high or drunk?
- 36:05Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, could you not contain your emotions long
- 36:08Speaker 1: enough to just move along and not embarrass yourself?
- 36:12Speaker 2: Anyway, this is a lot. Very funny.
- 36:17Speaker 1: You guys continue to entertain me immensely. And then we
- 36:21Speaker 1: had somebody else who just said, I believe your kids
- 36:25Speaker 1: are ugly. Look, You can take a lot of shots
- 36:27Speaker 1: at me. My kids have good genes, thanks to the
- 36:30Speaker 1: fact that their mom is hot. And fortunately for them,
- 36:33Speaker 1: they look a lot more like their mom than they
- 36:35Speaker 1: do me.
- 36:37Speaker 2: And so that is a significant truth.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Now, I was talking yesterday, this thing went viral too,
- 36:44Speaker 1: about the fact that there are no great chain sports
- 36:47Speaker 1: bars anymore.
- 36:48Speaker 2: There were a ton of responses in there.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And I did want to point out I've thought about
- 36:55Speaker 1: opening a sports bar for a while now. And the
- 36:58Speaker 1: number one thing that I would want in a sports
- 37:00Speaker 1: bar is a television that I could control myself, ideally
- 37:05Speaker 1: from the app, so I could put on a game.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Because my number one complaint every time I have ever
- 37:11Speaker 1: gone to a sports bar is no one has ever
- 37:14Speaker 1: been able to turn on the game that I want
- 37:16Speaker 1: to watch again. in the sports bar promptly and without
- 37:20Speaker 1: a major just issue associated with trying to get it
- 37:24Speaker 1: turned on. Every single one of you out there that
- 37:28Speaker 1: has ever been to a sports bar knows exactly what
- 37:30Speaker 1: I'm talking about. You walk in, doesn't matter what game
- 37:33Speaker 1: you're asking for. Frankly, it's often a very popular one.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Everyone who works in the entire sports bar has no
- 37:40Speaker 1: idea how to change the channel. It's as if you
- 37:42Speaker 1: have asked them, Hey, can you solve a mathematical equation
- 37:47Speaker 1: that has never been solved in the history of humanity
- 37:50Speaker 1: while you're standing in front of me on your order tablet?
- 37:53Speaker 1: They have no idea how to do it. So my
- 37:57Speaker 1: ideal solution to this would be a television is assigned
- 38:00Speaker 1: to you.
- 38:01Speaker 2: You have an app on your phone.
- 38:04Speaker 1: You can go in and directly select the game, the channel,
- 38:08Speaker 1: the viewing experience of your choice. The other thing I
- 38:12Speaker 1: would do is I would actually have much better food. Now,
- 38:17Speaker 1: one of you point, many of you maybe, but one
- 38:19Speaker 1: comment that I saw that's a good one is sports
- 38:22Speaker 1: bars are declining because there are way better home viewing
- 38:26Speaker 1: experiences now. And people can just save a lot more
- 38:30Speaker 1: money and have a lot more fun being able to
- 38:32Speaker 1: watch their favorite games at home. That's certainly the case
- 38:34Speaker 1: with me. Because truth be told, I would rather be
- 38:38Speaker 1: sitting on my couch in my house watching as many
- 38:41Speaker 1: games as I want without having to go anywhere with
- 38:44Speaker 1: access to my own food and drink, my own bathroom.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I mention humbly, we've got a 12-foot long, 7-foot tall,
- 38:54Speaker 1: the biggest screen that is available in a sports bar
- 38:58Speaker 1: that we built into the new house. We also have
- 39:02Speaker 1: sodas on tap, like a soda fountain. We have beer
- 39:05Speaker 1: on tap. I have a beer keg on tap. And
- 39:09Speaker 1: it's kind of awesome. So I get it. I don't
- 39:12Speaker 1: even want to leave. In fact, my wife even designed...
- 39:14Speaker 1: We have a urinal. So it's like you're in a
- 39:20Speaker 1: cool bar anyway. We have our own urinal in the
- 39:24Speaker 1: bathroom right off of the sports bar.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I will close with this, though, because I was.
- 39:30Speaker 2: asked on clay and buck, Hey, what about Hooters?
- 39:33Speaker 1: And I had to say that I'm actually more of
- 39:36Speaker 1: a twin peaks guy. And this is what that sounded
- 39:39Speaker 1: like on yesterday's program.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Enjoy. As much as clay likes TNA, I'm surprised he
- 39:46Speaker 2: hadn't mentioned Hooters. He seems like a Hooters guy to me.
- 39:49Speaker 2: which I've only been there once in my life.
- 39:53Speaker 1: You know, I'm not a big, this is going to
- 39:56Speaker 1: be blasphemy, not a big Hooters guy, the restaurant.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I just am not, I don't think the food's that good.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I've been there.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I don't mind the scantily clad waitresses. I actually prefer,
- 40:10Speaker 1: in the restaurant category, Twin Peaks. I think Twin Peaks
- 40:16Speaker 1: has colder beer, more updated decor, A little bit higher
- 40:21Speaker 1: end than Hooters. And since we're talking about it, I
- 40:24Speaker 1: was laughing the other day. Would we still call the
- 40:29Speaker 1: mountain range the Grand Tetons if it wasn't in French?
- 40:35Speaker 1: If some guy had just called them Big Boobs, wouldn't
- 40:39Speaker 1: we have changed the name?
- 40:41Speaker 2: Okay.
