- 0:00Tracks the Galaxy's most Unpredictable Star Trek podcast. I just realized there's no discussion
- 0:20about what this goes to the intro. You screwed up again? Just let
- 0:25it play out every time, Just let it play out. What's so hard
- 0:30about this? This is the intro? Do it over? Okay, I
- 0:41give up, I give up. I ate it twice and there it goes.
- 0:47Boy, Yeah, we'll get welcome to this podcast that we do.
- 0:54It's unpredictable. We talk about Star Trek sometimes. Now there's two people in
- 0:58vans uh uh shot craft? Sorry, ye yeah, I'm like, I'm
- 1:07docked at Star Base Rivertown Crossings right now. Okay, you got a jump,
- 1:14You're got a jump? Just stick or what do you what are you
- 1:15doing? Yeah, I'm gonna get a jump, just stick right now.
- 1:18I'm in front of Dick's Sporting Goods. Okay, I got it, got
- 1:23it? So you're there to handle some balls? What's going on? They
- 1:30probably well, that's they have there there, they do equipment, they do
- 1:36oh yeah, dance coughing again, still still coughing, yeah, creeper,
- 1:45which he mutes it and then you know some of us can see him coffee.
- 1:49But yeah, you just see me go. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:53I just want to hear the follow through them. So, well, that's
- 1:57what's going out of your house. So I am about an hour north of
- 2:02my house. It's the end of the kids spring break, and we just
- 2:06decided to do a little weekend trip and do some swimming at the pool and
- 2:09you know, at the hotel, and did some bowling and some uh and
- 2:14some roller skating, which I hadn't done in about five or six years.
- 2:19So I only felt once. Yeah cast Yeah, I bowled uh like four,
- 2:25so I was proud. I was happy about that. I hadn't bowled
- 2:28in about five years. Yeah, nice chassays, got loves dis Hey,
- 2:32Dix is a great sporting good store. It really is. We've got one
- 2:37in our hometown too, So if you're looking for some sports stuff or outdoor
- 2:42gear, I always recommend Dix. Are they a sponsor? Now's track cat
- 2:51brought to you by Dix. Right, let's get out that, Daniel.
- 2:57Come on, Yeah, let me see what I can do about that one.
- 3:00So I'm not traveling today. I'm in the driveway as usual, but
- 3:02right right, I'll be traveling tomorrow. The path of the Big eclipse.
- 3:10Oh okay, yeah, the path of totality is north of us. So
- 3:19I'm taking my son out of school and we're driving up to my buddy's house
- 3:23and we're gonna stand in his front yard look in the sky. So cool.
- 3:28Yeah, I like it. Yep, we have our path. No,
- 3:32no, you're nowhere near the path. We're kind of clothes. It's
- 3:38gonna be like nine, so I'm gonna yeah, I'm gonna step outside.
- 3:43Yeah, okay, yeah. I love all the conspiracy theories happening about the
- 3:46solar clus my favorite. The internet is nuts. What was the meme?
- 3:53What was the meme you put up like an hour ago with or maybe you
- 3:58put it up in the group in our group chat. It was the lightning
- 4:02striking the Statue of Liberty, oh ghost and and thet in the East Coast
- 4:08earthquake from Friday and then and then are you okay, Dan? Yeah?
- 4:13Yeah, no, I'm good. We will we will rebuild. I was
- 4:17at work. I was at work and my wife texted me. She said,
- 4:21did you feel that earthquake like three minutes ago? And I said,
- 4:25I felt it. I just thought they were moving furniture upstairs. And I
- 4:28went right back to work talking about Yes, yes, somebody get me the
- 4:33Ghostbusters. Yeah. My wife was on the toilet and she she heard the
- 4:43silverware shaking on the other side of the house. So yeah, that's all
- 4:47four point eight. Is that what I heard? Yep, that's pretty strong.
- 4:53That's that's a pretty strong one. And then I don't know if the
- 4:56buildings over there I raided for for earthquakes. Yeah, I don't know.
- 5:00No, they're only rated for snow and hurricanes. Yeah right, yeah,
- 5:05well I'll got that special earthquake you know that's swaying that they have to do,
- 5:11right. Yeah. Yeah. They probably don't have all their like,
- 5:13you know, bookcases and stuff like attached to the wall. No, no,
- 5:19yeah. I have a cousin who was in Los Angeles traveling for work
- 5:26when when they had the big one and it was like ninety two or ninety
- 5:30three, the one that interrupted the World Series. Oh yeah, yeah yeah.
- 5:33And he said, he said, I was in my hotel room and
- 5:38and the whole world was just shaking around me. And he says, I
- 5:42was just laying on the floor in the middle of the hotel room like the
- 5:45fetal position, just waiting for waiting for it to stop. Or the building
- 5:50to come down one of the two. What was funny is having grown up
- 5:55there. Right in school, at the beginning of the school, you're just
- 5:58like with all your school supplies. They made you bring in a little like
- 6:00pack of non perishable food in case there was an earthquake at the school.
- 6:04Oh yeah, I have something there, you know. But at the end
- 6:09of the year, every year you had your earthquakes party and you just ate
- 6:12your snacks. Yeah. Basically they handed you back your pack and said here
- 6:15you go, and all the kids are just sitting there recessing, eating their
- 6:18granola bars. Yeah. Well New York City is different. They figured there's
- 6:23enough rats around that nobody's gonna Also, how long do you have to go
- 6:28without food before it really becomes a problem, right, The pack is not
- 6:32going to save you, like the bottle of water might makes sense, but
- 6:35that even takes you know, three or four days. This was elementary school.
- 6:40Yeah, yeah, like that was that wasn't for you. That was
- 6:45teaching you shut up and eat your fruit snacks. I don't I don't know
- 6:48when the fire department is coming fruit snacks right? Yeah, by the foot
- 6:58Oh God from Big League Chew, Big Lead Jew yeah, yeah, neighbor,
- 7:06that's dating me. The Great East Coast Shake twenty twenty four, The
- 7:16Wolf two K Forever Project, Yeah, air Wolf, what's the Wolf?
- 7:26So there's there's T shirts already. Oh I know. Yeah. In New
- 7:30York City the earthquake was like ten o'clock in the morning. Yeah, and
- 7:33by by eleven thirty there were like Haitian guys on the street corner with boxes
- 7:40and T shirts. Doesn't surprise me. Only like they were like they were
- 7:43still warm from coming out of the press, right, you know, I
- 7:46remember. Yeah, It's it's amazing how quickly people will start printing that up.
- 7:50Well, because the technology now is it's pretty easy to print out of
- 7:54a T shirt. I was in Florida in ninety nine when Hurricanes George went
- 8:00through, and I came home with a T shirt that said I survived Hurricane
- 8:05George. And they came out like twenty four hours later. Oh wow,
- 8:09yeah no, this this was like two hours. Did you get your T
- 8:11shirt? I did not get a T shirt? No, okay, I
- 8:15did not. No. No. If New York is gonna buy one of
- 8:20those, that's all for tourists. If all wants to send me one I'll
- 8:24send him my Uh, I'll send him my address, but I'm not sure
- 8:26it's it'll be one that's like the earthquake and the and the eclipse by next
- 8:31week. So here you go. Yeah, get the two back back.
- 8:37How about you let me be exciting going on over by you. Uh.
- 8:39I had to go to Montana yesterday. Okay, No, well it was
- 8:48it was literally last minute, like Friday night. My Dad's like, yeah,
- 8:50so we're gonna go to Montana at like six in the morning. Wait
- 8:52what he was donating a truck to charity, so oh cool, Yeah,
- 8:58a little used pick up, so take it over there and drop it off.
- 9:03And yeah, that was not what I had planned to do yesterday.
- 9:05But okay it was a Yellowstone ranch. Ha is that for you? Uh?
- 9:13The Montana State boarder is maybe like an hour or so away, but
- 9:16where we needed to go was like two hours from my house. So you
- 9:20know, you know, our European listeners are like, oh my god right
- 9:24now, because yeah, you know, whenever they hear about the distances that
- 9:28New York or New York is that Americans yeah will will drive to two things,
- 9:33it blows them away. Yeah. Yeah, you know, we drove
- 9:37all the way there. Found out that Montana has casinos everywhere. That nice.
- 9:43Nice? Yes, so did you play? No, I didn't have
- 9:46time. We just were there to drop it off and leave. But literally
- 9:50everywhere casinos. He's into a different kind of dice. That's right, that's
- 9:56true. That's true. That's true. Yeah. So all right, we're
- 10:01eleven minutes in. We should probably talk about Star Tarks. Yeah, let's
- 10:03get into the come on, yeah, let's let's delay it as long as
- 10:09possible. Star Trek News all right, uh yeah, our first new story
- 10:20comes to us from Variety. It looks like the deal between Paramount and Guy
- 10:26Dance Media is getting closer and closer. They are in talks right now.
- 10:33Apparently the transfer would be a five billion dollars to make this kind of merging
- 10:41together. Most of that would be in stock, but two billion in cash
- 10:45would go to Paramount's main stock arm shareholder, Sherry Redstone. Is what it's
- 10:50looking like. Another little bit of wrinkle that's going on right now with this
- 10:56merger is apparently Paramount is in the middle of carry your fees negotiations with Charter
- 11:01Cable, the second largest cable company in the country, and and if they
- 11:09don't take the deal that's really gonna uh kind of screw over paramount cash flow
- 11:15apparently, so if you've seen some big changes really soon. M This also
- 11:22kind of puts in the light that big story last week with how great Star
- 11:26Trek is that they'd ran a variety. Yeah yeah, it's slapping that hood
- 11:31if here you got. Yeah yeah, So what do you guys think about
- 11:39sky Dance owning them that they do a lot of Tom Cruise movies and things
- 11:43like that. Nobody's gonna know what this is really gonna mean. I mean,
- 11:50I don't know. It's didn't Skydance do the jj abrams. They produced
- 11:56the second and third, second and third movie Star Trek movie, Okay,
- 12:01yeah, right right right, the best funds Yeah yeah, so so so
- 12:11far they're only their only experience with Star Trek. Sky Dances experience with Star
- 12:16Trek is producing two mediocre Star Trek movies. Yeah. I mean, well
- 12:24then you know, if I had a bunch of papers, I would just
- 12:28throw them up in frustration and get out of the car and walk towards the
- 12:31wall. I mean, I'm so frustrated with it. We don't know what
- 12:37it's going to mean for Trek, which is what we're talking about here.
- 12:41We don't know, you know, if the power is to be at at
- 12:46that sky dance, whatever it's called, if there's anybody there higher up that's
- 12:52into Star Trek, that cares about Star Trek, that understands Star Trek,
- 12:56you know. Right, Well, here here's the thing. These companies don't
- 13:03buy something to just let it sit there. They buy something to make money
- 13:09off of it. And the only way to make money off of Star Trek
- 13:11is by making more Star Trek. So yeah, I meantully more Star Trek,
- 13:22but they're buying They're not buying Star Trek. They're buying Paramount, right,
- 13:26yes, yes, but that's that's that's a piece of it. That's
- 13:28a money making piece of it. So from a business standpoint, it doesn't
- 13:33make sense for them to just let it sit there. They would either make
- 13:37more of it to sell more of it, or sell it to someone else
- 13:41and let them make more of it to sell more of it. So you
- 13:46know, who gets the hold of it. I know where I know this
- 13:52analogy is is not the best given the last few outings that they had.
- 13:58But when Disney bought Marvel, Marvel really started firing on all cylinders. Sure
- 14:07right, that has since they have since slowed down and the and the quality
- 14:11has decreased. But uh, initially, you know, Disney bought Marvel,
- 14:20and Marvel started producing two quality films a year for a good five or six
- 14:24years straight, right, right, So I'm cautious, cautiously optimistic so much
- 14:33so much good. Yeah, because my other thing about what Sky answer is,
- 14:37yeah, they made they made Into Darkness, but they also did Beyond
- 14:41and it really did seem like they learned lessons from Into Darkness to improve.
- 14:46So well, if if Star Trek can fall into the hands of somebody who
- 14:50knows how to learn lessons from previous mistakes, then I'm all for it,
- 14:54because the people who are in charge of Start Trek now don't seem to have
- 15:00that ability. The next mission, Tom Cruise Leaping off the Hall of the
- 15:05Enterprise, brought to you by Sky Dance. Yeah, sure what I can't
- 15:13wait for that, Bob, the Star Trek crossover. Yes, yeah,
- 15:18I just thought of the perfect one, and it kind of fits Star Trek
- 15:20n c I S crossover. Oh there you go perfectly. Yeah, that's
- 15:26right. I'm waiting for the Action Through spin off I wait for the for
- 15:35the figures to show up at the stores. Yes, about the little spikes
- 15:41that come out, Yeah, would those pop out or would they be like
- 15:46a little you know, you got to attach them in. I think you'd
- 15:48have to have like a fourteen inch action figure and then make the spikes like
- 15:52fireable, put little nerve darts in there. Nice, all right, And
- 15:58then our next news story comes to us from screen rant and during South By
- 16:03Southwest last week, the majority of the Discovery crew was on stage and they
- 16:08kind of did a joint interview. It's a really long story, so I'm
- 16:12gonna put it in the show notes, but some of the highlights was,
- 16:15you know, they did go into the season knowing that this would be the
- 16:18last, so they really took time to enjoy things. They said that they
- 16:22kind of put everything they could out there. One thing that I thought was
- 16:27kind of interesting was Wilson Cruz said that his character Doctor Colbert has really inspired
- 16:33him to be a better person. He feels like Doctor Colbert's a better version
- 16:37of himself, so especially with Yeah, especially the way like he helps inspires
- 16:44people and all that. So he says he's really going to try to live
- 16:47up to that also the fact that he now realizes that he looks good and
- 16:49white. So I thought that was funny, all right, And then another
- 17:00news story comes to us from Star Trek dot com. I don't know if
- 17:04you guys saw, but yesterday a the Berlin Union Berlin football team aka soccer
- 17:12released their Star Trek jerseys. They played the game yesterday with as this is
- 17:18the Star Trek jersey. So I don't know if these will be available for
- 17:22purchase. I'm sure they will be at some point. So it's got the
- 17:26uh you want to describe the it's it's a white jersey with red striping on
- 17:32the shoulders and then dead center in the middle is the the delta, the
- 17:37Start Trik delta. Yeah, kind of has a Nikes sotion it too.
- 17:42I think what they did they shrunk the delta down so that it fits perfectly
- 17:48within the sphere that it's usually over right, and then they have the swish
- 17:52going across it, so it looks like a soccer ball and a Starfleet amblem
- 17:57all at the same time. What they were going for. Okay, yeah,
- 18:02I can see that. So yeah, so this was the jerseys,
- 18:06and they played a game yesterday with them. Unfortunately, the Delta did not
- 18:10help them as they lost their match one point zero one two Lavernston, I
- 18:19don't know, some other team I don't know sports. Yeah, and what
- 18:26what were they wearing? Oh, I don't know. Something fashionable of course
- 18:30the Klingon emblem. Was it some other old show where they wearing like there
- 18:38you go? Yeah? Yeah, threes company? Who knows? Who knows?
- 18:45Who knows? And then our last news story comes to us from what
- 18:49is this website? CTV News. It's a Canadian news channel, and I
- 18:56think we could play a little clip of this. This U for first Contact
- 19:02Day the other day they got to tour a super fan's home and so let's
- 19:07let's play a little bit of this. My name is or Captain J Roach
- 19:14of the US s Acadia. I've been a Star Trek fan all my life.
- 19:18Fascinating. This all started when I went and saw The Star Trek the
- 19:23motion picture. I left the movie theater as a kid. The interview,
- 19:26so he house, I want one into the Star Trek corrections and he he's
- 19:37got Alexis set up everywhere and he can talk to it, and he can
- 19:42any any Star Trek function you can think of. The Red alert. He
- 19:47can set you know, yellow alert, fire all the things and it'll do
- 19:52all the sound effects, changes the lighting in his house. It's kind of
- 19:55neat, you know. Yeah, he's got an elaborate set up and he's
- 19:59definitely got some fu money. Yeah. Yeah. It's also got a lot
- 20:03of curtains that cover up a lot of them. Yeah that that cut down
- 20:07the castle. With that he has, he has quite the collection. He's
- 20:11also uh you know, if you read further down, it says he hasn't
- 20:14been outside in seven years, right right, Well, I mean he's like
- 20:21he's like nag at that episode where he wouldn't leave in Las Vegas. Yeah,
- 20:26but you know, give it the state of affairs. You had access
- 20:30to a place like that, how often would you trick outside? Tell you
- 20:34what? For years, I've had this dream in my head of having a
- 20:40home theater that looks like the bridge of a starship. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 20:45I would love to do something like that. I don't have the room
- 20:47for that right now, but you know someday, you know, twenty years
- 20:52from now, when you retire and yeah, you know, yeah, so
- 20:59what is that? What does that do for the resale value of your home?
- 21:02Oh? I'm sure it makes it. Yeah. I imagine the realtor
- 21:06you know, walking somebody through and they're like, this is the uh,
- 21:08let me look at the notes, this is the the bridge right. Well,
- 21:12Dan, there's precedent. I mean there's guys out there that have tried
- 21:15that have you know, there there was one guy I think the UK get
- 21:18up his apartment, you know, and and you know it, the price
- 21:22of it plummeted. And I get it because you know, you're looking after
- 21:26a very specific, you know group clientele. Yeah, you know. Yeah,
- 21:33And it's one thing if it's like in a big city where chances are
- 21:37there's other fans that might be willing to purchase your home. But if you're
- 21:41in the middle of a rural area or you're the the Star Trek guy,
- 21:45yeah, that would make your well. And even if you're a huge Star
- 21:48Trek fan, Like, if you're going to spend that kind of money,
- 21:51you want to you know, curate it to your specific needs. You want
- 21:56it to you know, if I walked into that place, I'd be like,
- 21:59you know, get rid of all this stuff, and get rid of
- 22:00all this discovery stuff. I just want to focus on TNG and Dee s's
- 22:03sign of voyager, right, whereas I'd be like, I need all this
- 22:08prodigy stuff. Let's put it in right exactly. Honestly, I think I
- 22:12think there's ways to do it to get the best of both worlds. No
- 22:18punish if you look at the if you look at the TNG Bridge, not
- 22:25to copy it directly, but to take inspiration from it. And even Picard
- 22:30said this in the last episode of Picard season three. He misses the carpet
- 22:37The TNG Bridge felt like home. It was, it was carpeted, there
- 22:41was wood grain. So if you make a very tasteful looking home theater that
- 22:48also kind of looks like the bridge of a starship. Mm. But it's
- 22:55a home theater, right, that will still add value. Yeah? Oh
- 23:00sure sure. I mean, would you guys somebody else to start trick?
- 23:06No, because if I could afford it, I would build my own to
- 23:07my specifications. Oh, we just got an alert for Scott. Uh.
- 23:15Oh you left me and Dick for the team. Boy, you might be
- 23:18broke when you when you get done. Oh oh no, yeah, that's
- 23:22my wife. Yeah. Yeah, so there you go. There's that message
- 23:26for you. All right, okay, all right, boys, Well let's
- 23:30wrap it up. Good show. Yeah, yeah, are you done with
- 23:33the news, Yeah, we're do with the news. Okay. I wanted
- 23:37to wow, I wanted to add something to the well, I don't I
- 23:44don't know if it's news or not. But did you guys here that they're
- 23:45trying to make a Voyager documentary? Yeah, they've been trying for a while
- 23:49now, okay, I mean i've heard more recently that there. What's that?
- 23:56I said no, he said yes, and I said, okay,
- 23:57I mean stories about it? Yeah, okay, I thought of the perfect
- 24:03name for it. We had the documentary that was called What We Left Behind
- 24:10Star Trek Voyager, a three hour tour. Nice. Nice, So everybody
- 24:15start your letter writing campaigns Now, did the dsin documentary is doing the Voyager?
- 24:26So I've spent months coming up with that one, I know, months,
- 24:32I tell you. All Right, Well, let's get to our main
- 24:37topic. Fun will now comment. So we had two episodes of Star Trek
- 24:52Discovery two season. Let's see, what was the name of the so here
- 25:02red Red Red Dead, Redemption? Right? The first one and under the
- 25:08twin Moons, I've got yeah, so Red. Since you love the Red
- 25:17Angel, here's the red directive. Oh boy. Yeah, Captain Burnham and
- 25:22her crew of the USS Discovery are sent to retrieve a mysterious artifact that is
- 25:26hidden inside an eight hundred year old Romulant vessel, but to find it,
- 25:30they're not the only ones on the hunt. Meanwhile, Suru is offered a
- 25:34position of a lifetime So that's the first log line. So I figured we'll
- 25:38just go through these one episode at a time real quick. Sure. Yeah,
- 25:42so, yeah, they haven't done this since the first season, having
- 25:48a two episode premiere. Okay, we basically got to see you get it
- 25:52over with, Yes, but this is the last live back from Star Trek
- 26:00we're gonna have this year. Yeah, I mean, unless you know,
- 26:03why don't you just pour some salt on it, Daniel. Section thirty one
- 26:07might come out later this year. We don't really know. I guess right,
- 26:11I will know. But yeah, we were introduced to some new characters,
- 26:18a Bonnie and Clyde type couple. I like these guys. Yeah.
- 26:26Oh. Karen pointed out that that's the lady from from when it's Star Trek
- 26:33shows. Ahsoka is it? I think it's Soka is a Star Wars show.
- 26:41But yeah, that same that's the same actress, That's what he was
- 26:47saying. I understood. I immediately thought. I immediately thought to myself,
- 26:53it looks like she looks too much like this character from from Ahsoka. I
- 26:57don't think it's the same nothing, that's the same actress, though, But
- 27:00I could be wrong. Yea, So here we are, here we are.
- 27:07They're in a plun shop with data. That's right, as Scott said,
- 27:15yep, yeah, Fred. But what I'm angry about this about dare
- 27:26the Discovery people. Alex Kirchman. You need to quit. You just need
- 27:30to quit. Okay. You don't know, you don't know anything about Star
- 27:33Trek. You don't care about the story, you don't care about these characters,
- 27:37and you just crap. You just crapped on data. You just took
- 27:41a giant, giant turd and said it right on data. This was a
- 27:47throwaway character. And you did this for no reason. No, no,
- 27:52no, no, no, they had a reason. They had a reason.
- 27:55What was it? You want to know the reason? Yeah, they're
- 27:57telling the world. Hey, you know that other Star Trek that you guys
- 28:02really really really really really like, even though it's it's thirty five years old.
- 28:07Yeah, we're part of that too, because look, right, we
- 28:11we also have a character who's like who's like Data, and and you know
- 28:15what, we're doing this storyline here and really really it's a sequel to this
- 28:19other story that was from that other show that you guys really like. And
- 28:25look we have we have Romulins in their twenty fourth century Romulins in the twenty
- 28:29fourth century Rylin ship. It's it's like, please please lump us together.
- 28:34Yeah, that's that's absolutely what they're doing. And they're and you know,
- 28:38I get, I get why they're doing that, but they're not even doing
- 28:42it right. Who the hell is Alton Sung? I know, I know,
- 28:48I know who he is because I watched I watched a card. But
- 28:51that's what I was gonna say. That's Sung type androids. Sung type androids
- 28:56are named for Nunion Sung, not Alton Sung. They may some who they
- 29:00made up last year. Because this is not a sense he's a he's a
- 29:03pond. They made it sound like he was just like Data, like the
- 29:07construction wise, he's got the same skin tone, the eyes, the hair,
- 29:11the you know, I mean, I noticed that his similar liking was
- 29:15governed by the Fourier system. But yeah, I will say this. I
- 29:21did see a lot of posts in different Star Trek Facebook and Reddit groups.
- 29:26A lot of people are very into Fred, not just as a character,
- 29:32but they are open for all sorts of fan picture with freda oh boy.
- 29:36So yeah, he has caused quite the steam in undise. I hope he
- 29:41stays dead from the chaser photon blast that he got. There would be a
- 29:48million like books where he comes back to life and the Adventures of Fred h
- 29:53comic. I mean, I understand why they why they introduced him, both
- 30:00in story and out of story. It's it's for Stammets. Because Stammets is
- 30:04watching his what he believes was going to be his legacy. He's watching that
- 30:08evaporate in front of him. The spot Drive is being you know, discontinued
- 30:15or or whatever. So you know, I understand that they wanted to make
- 30:19this this comparison, all the more reason it should be Nunion's song, not
- 30:23Walton sung right exactly, because I can understand them, you know, making
- 30:30a series of androids that were based on Data's type mm hmm. You know
- 30:36that that aren't since since they're you know, sooon type androids, Unions type
- 30:44androids mm hmm. It was interesting to me that he was a collector.
- 30:48I wouldn't think one of those androids would care about collecting anything. Well,
- 30:53I wouldn't think that one of the lds would care about it. Yeah,
- 30:56we don't. We don't know who he belongs to, right, I was
- 31:00just glad they didn't, you know, allude that he was like Lore or
- 31:06before or you know, I don't know. Yeah, I'm not happy,
- 31:14te J. Even when the show has decent episodes, it just still feels
- 31:18off. It does it? Does it every way? In charge. I
- 31:25don't wanna. I don't want to constantly take a dump on Discovery. But
- 31:32you know, I've said over and over and over and over on this show
- 31:33that I never I never rewatch Discovery episodes. I never even have the desire
- 31:38to rewatch them. They have no rewatchability. I rewatched every single episode of
- 31:45Discovery leading up to this, okay, And when I finished the last episode
- 31:55of season four, which was the longest. Season four took me the longest
- 32:00to get through because there were certain episodes where it took me three sittings to
- 32:05get through an episode. And when it was all over and I got to
- 32:08the end of the season, Paramount Plus was like, hey, you might
- 32:14also like this show called Picard, Right, So I then I then rewatched
- 32:22season three of Picard in like two days. It only took me two days
- 32:29to go through the whole thing, and I loved eighty seven point five percent
- 32:36of it. And it just kind of, I don't know, reinforce.
- 32:43It reinforced for me that that this is not a good show. Right.
- 32:49It was funny is that you said the exact same thing about two years ago?
- 32:52Yeah? Yeah, but what the point I'm the point I'm making.
- 32:58The point I'm making Scott, it is, I've tried. I'm not just
- 33:01one of these people who's like, a, it's not my Star Trek.
- 33:05I'm not watching back in my nice Star Trek shaking your cane and all that.
- 33:09Yeah yeah, get off, Get off my lawn. I'll give you
- 33:13twenty bucks if you keep that persona up for the rest of the show.
- 33:16You got it, Let me send you my paper. Get off, Get
- 33:23off. Yeah. So yeah, yeah, So basically the Bonnie and Clyde
- 33:31couple, they go to Fred with like a I don't know, it's like
- 33:36a box. It reminded me of romulin. It's a romulin puzzle box.
- 33:40Yeah, kind of reminded me of the thing from from Hell Raiser, the
- 33:45Configuration. Do you guys know that? Which I think I'm the only one
- 33:50who goes. My wife might know that series, but I don't. Okay,
- 33:54basically it's it's it's a puzzle box. Eventually he gets opened up and
- 33:59they're there is a map to a set of clues to find some great power
- 34:06that they're looking for, some great treasure. We even got to visit tattooing,
- 34:09which was nice. With the discovery for got to write on some speeders,
- 34:15I mean sand bikes, and at the beginning of the episode, somebody
- 34:21is surfboarding on a spaceship and of course guess who it had to be,
- 34:24right, Yeah, I had to be Michael h That was my favorite because
- 34:29that's an old writing trick where you don't have an interesting opening, so you
- 34:31you cut to an interesting part of your story and then flashback to where you
- 34:36actually is your sinning and then catch up with it. Yeah, you know,
- 34:40I've heard Dan say a lot like he doesn't like the trope, where
- 34:45like you say, hey, let's do that thing like we did on Ridian
- 34:46one, or let's yeah, I hate the action scene and then a cut
- 34:52to four hours earlier. I hate that, I asked, especially if that
- 34:57four hours earlier is at the end of the episode, beginning of the episode,
- 35:00or they waited the entire episode. At least this one. They caught
- 35:02up to it pretty quickly, right, But I just can't stand it.
- 35:07Don't show me that, show me how, show me the lead up,
- 35:08show me the story from A to B two c. My My favorite part
- 35:13of that like party scene is at one point they do a name graphic for
- 35:16Stammets, and I legit thought they were going to start doing name graphics for
- 35:22all the characters, like like like like the love Boat. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:30I really thought they were gonna be like they really realized nobody does the
- 35:32names of these characters. They've been listening to our show. Well. Another
- 35:39thing I did notice, especially these last these two episodes, is they really
- 35:44started every saying everybody's name repeatedly. You know, they Reese, come here,
- 35:52burn them over here, Captain Burnham, like constantly, Yeah, you
- 35:57know, I guess five season ends, let's do it, yep. Yeah
- 36:02uh. And then we also got our own new our own new shop.
- 36:07I mean Captain Dick himself basically yeah, so this actor, Yeah, I
- 36:17like this actor. Yeah, I remember him from Battlestar Galactica. He was
- 36:22one of the uh he was one of the human cylons. He was also
- 36:28he was also in a show called Due South years ago, which was a
- 36:35Canadian MOUNTI you paired up with. I think it was the Chicago, uh
- 36:38police detective and he played the the Chicago he had the Chicago accident he played
- 36:45I remember the Chicago detective. Was he from Chicago? Oh? I didn't
- 36:52make that connection? Yeah, dip ship from Chicago. Can I ask the
- 36:57question what what species was he? I'm not sure. Yeah, but here's
- 37:01here's but here's the thing. We're so far into the future at this point
- 37:08where you can't assume anymore that he's one species, right because the president,
- 37:15the president is is human and Kardassian and I think but Joran also, right,
- 37:21wasn't that a little bit of what's that? That guy a little bitpin
- 37:25could have been like one sixty fourth PERRINGI right, they all need twenty three
- 37:30and me to figure it all out. Yeah, so you know, we
- 37:37don't we don't know what he is. Yeah, and you know, I
- 37:42think that's on purpose, Like yeah, yeah, I don't know. Yeah,
- 37:52new prediction. He's going to be dead. Oh yeah, he's gonna
- 37:54die. He's going to die, and one of the bandits is going to
- 37:59die, either one, either Rainer is gonna die or he's going to betray
- 38:07them one or the other. I don't think. I don't think he might
- 38:13out Yeah, something like that might out burn. Book was there. Book
- 38:21continues to just be kind of cool and weird. I guess I'm not sure
- 38:25why he's there. Yeah, because they give you big storyline reason why he
- 38:30needs to be there. Suru was there being Saru, which, uh,
- 38:37we need to talk about Saru in a little bit when you talk about and
- 38:39his girlfriend. Yeah, yeah, it's fiance now yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 38:47That was a little a little bit jokey for the president of Vulcan to
- 38:53be like, oh, you're not gonna tell me, do I need to
- 38:57give you a little mind meld? Right? Well, well, she is
- 39:01not the president of Vulcans. She is the president of Navarvar and navar is
- 39:07a is a is a is a community of Vulcans and Romulans. So they've
- 39:13been rubbing off on each other for for hundreds of years. Yes, but
- 39:16did she looks. I don't think we can expect or three and four.
- 39:22I mean she might be part romulant as well, right right, you could
- 39:25have a little bit of you know, I suppose yeah, I don't know.
- 39:32It seems like like jokingly threatening somebody with a with a vulcan mind meld
- 39:38would be like uncouth. You know what if that's if that's her mate.
- 39:46People say things to their mate. I guess like, hey, am I
- 39:51gonna have a'm I gonna have to throw you down on this bed? Yeah?
- 39:53You know that gets things that people say to each other. I can
- 39:57take this knife to your throat, honey. Well, whoa whoa, whoa
- 40:02Wow Hey Daniel, Daniel, Yeah, send a message to desire ask if
- 40:09everything is okay, Yes, exactly if she if she needs someone to meet
- 40:14her at Dick's, yeah, we'll take care of it. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:20tell you Blake Blake twice right right. My big question is, okay,
- 40:30so he's engaged now, right? Bachelor Party? Is that one of
- 40:36the episodes It's gonna be on Discovery in there, you know, party room.
- 40:39I mean I can see it happening. Just go lights a. Yeah,
- 40:46I don't know, contact Chad, see if he's still alive. Scott's
- 40:52Great of Terror begins. He's alive. Des Ray said that he's in our
- 40:57basement. Oh okay, we feed him. Okay, yeah, talk Well
- 41:16the show. Did you guys catch did you guys catch Morn in the party
- 41:23scene? Yeah? I saw the mourn. We don't know. I can't
- 41:25remember his species, but that kind of shows up time the time. Yeah,
- 41:30we've seen him a couple of times, but yeah, I saw him.
- 41:34It don't be great. Yeah, if that, if that, if
- 41:37that actually is mourn, he's just that. Yeah, we had no idea
- 41:43they've had a mourn before, though they have in season three, sohas Let
- 41:51me ask you something. So, I guess these Starfleet away mission suits just
- 42:00have like a portable replicator on the wrist. Now you just you just kind
- 42:05of call for your your your phaser and it shows up. It's like your
- 42:10hand out and it's summoned to you. It's the same technology from Star Trek
- 42:16Voyager, Elite Force. I don't know that one the video. Okay,
- 42:24Yeah, it was a first person, third per It was a shooter kind
- 42:28of thing, all right, So Michael PS two, I had it years
- 42:36ago. I had it years ago. I think. But anyways, all
- 42:38right, so Michael and Saru they're down on the planet. They each have
- 42:40they each have a phaser, all right. They come up with this plan
- 42:45where Seru is going to run to distract the drones and Michael is going to
- 42:50set the phasers to overload and and throw them in the skull and and all
- 42:58right, well I'm talking about okay, okay, So Saru gives Michael his
- 43:05phaser and starts running so she can do that. She does that, They
- 43:10disarm everything, They're going to continue on their mission. And what do they
- 43:15do before they walk away? Joop? They each call for a new phaser?
- 43:19Yeah right, So if they could do that, why did he give
- 43:23his to her? Why didn't she just call for another one and use those?
- 43:28And at least Seru could run away from these drones I don't know,
- 43:30with a phaser in his hand and maybe defend himself. That's the first.
- 43:35The second thing, if if you can just summon a weapon out of your
- 43:40portable replicator, why aren't you summoning a grenade? Why are you? Yes?
- 43:50Okay. My point is another reason I'm not happy with them being this
- 43:53far into the future is that the technology has progressed so far, and they
- 44:00can do so many things now that it kind of messes with the writing.
- 44:06If you can do anything, then then there's no fear of not being able
- 44:10to do something. In order to uh, in order to introduce stress into
- 44:16a situation, you have to forget about certain abilities that they have. Writing
- 44:21hasn't evolved to catch up. Yeah, they what it needs is you know,
- 44:25I'll say this writing you have you have to put limitations. Yeah,
- 44:30you have to have rules and limitations for your technology. And they've progressed the
- 44:32technologies. Yes, Yes, they've progressed their technology so far. Okay,
- 44:37they have these personal transporters. Now, why are we calling the ship saying
- 44:43get me out of here? Right? What's the point? What's the point?
- 44:46Yeah, And they do that all the time. They go back and
- 44:50forth between I'm gonna tap my chest twice and use my personal transporter to you
- 44:53know, discovery, get me out of here. Yeah, the ship pulls
- 44:57them out. My first thought when I saw that is ma, maybe that
- 45:00the personal transporters have a range limitation. But they need to say that.
- 45:05You need you need to establish you need to establish the rules. Right.
- 45:08A simple line of dialogue would would fix all that, Dan, What do
- 45:13you think about the the like the phasers turning into like you know, SBR
- 45:17short bearter of rifles. They like they had the hand phaser and then it
- 45:21would they could make it change into a rifle. Right, did you see
- 45:24that, Dan Daniel? I must have saw that. Okay, okay,
- 45:29yeah, that must be. That must have been a point where I was
- 45:31looking at the back of my eyelids as I rolled my They're holding the phaser
- 45:37and they can just pull it apart and make not just a longer but a
- 45:40larger a rifle rifle. Yeah. I think for the moment it looked cool.
- 45:50I get why they did it. Yeah, practically it's it's kind of
- 45:53weird. But but like, are you doing make it more powerful, to
- 45:58make it better, more accurate, see longer range? Yeah, that's that
- 46:02was my thought. What does it do? What? Because it's a laser
- 46:07game, right, it's as right? Yeah, how is at any different?
- 46:12So you know, here's the There are there are handguns. There are
- 46:19handguns out there that can that can shoot shotgun rounds. Okay, the the
- 46:25recoil will practically break your wrist. I don't do it, Okay, you
- 46:30know, a hand handgun versus a rifle. It's you want to increase.
- 46:36You get increased accuracy because the distance between your front site and your rear sight
- 46:40is further, so you get better accuracy. But also it displaces some of
- 46:44the recoil because there's this big thing that you're holding its little tiny Yeah,
- 46:50welcome to weapon cast A. Right, I am the I am the paramount
- 47:00tactical advisory. You are because because they need one of those which which which
- 47:07segues into my next complaint. Okay, when d Admiral Vance gives them this
- 47:15gives them this mission. Uh Captain Shaw, I'm just gonna call him x.
- 47:21I can't remember his name. Rayner, thank you. Rayner says,
- 47:27is this my mission or hers? And the Admiral's answer is, why don't
- 47:32you guys try working together? Wrong? Wrong? One thousand person Ye.
- 47:42Wrong. Every military or paramilitary operation has an established chain of command. It
- 47:50is important in any operation to always know who is in command. There should
- 47:54never be a question as to who is in charge. You should always be
- 48:00able to look around and go, he's dead. He's dead. He's dead.
- 48:01He's dead. He's dead. She's in command. Oh, she's dead
- 48:06too, he's in command every time. Every time there's there there is an
- 48:10established system to determine who is in command. Sometimes it's downright silly how it
- 48:17goes. Reminded of the episode when Nog gets on the bridge at the Defiant
- 48:22for the first time and he looks at Chief and he goes, I mean
- 48:24that eventually I could be in jearge. Well, yeah, if you were
- 48:28in charge. Yeah, but that's a perfect, perfect there's a perfect example
- 48:34of that. Okay, do you remember the one where where Nog and Jake
- 48:37get rescued by the USS Valiant and the USS Valiant is under the under the
- 48:42command of a third year cadet who had been given the field commission of captain.
- 48:49Meanwhile, Nog is an actual commissioned ensign and he is answering to this
- 48:54cadet because that's how the change, that's how the established chain of command works.
- 48:59This guy has a field commission of captain. He outranks you. Yeah,
- 49:02yeah, which you mean you can bet your butt that if Warf showed
- 49:06up on that ship. Warf wouldn't be like, oh, you're a commissioned
- 49:08captain. I'm just a commander, you know. No, no, get
- 49:13out of your kid. Yeah, exactly. Well, I don't know.
- 49:17I think I think Wharf would convince him to relinquish command. But yeah,
- 49:25he'd be more sensitive than I just portrayed him. Yeah, you're right,
- 49:29You're right he would, he would, Wharf would. I'm sure Wharf would
- 49:32tell him, you know, Starfleet appreciates your dedication and your service. Mm
- 49:37hmm. You need to relinquish command to me, and you know that's it
- 49:44will be noted in my log that you did the responsible thing and blah blah
- 49:46blah blah blah. But really he can't take If if Warf took command,
- 49:52he would be committing mutiny. Yeah, yeah, I know it's tough.
- 49:57I know it's tough to swallow. I know it's tough to swallow. But
- 50:00well, the other thing about that particular episode, I know this is in
- 50:04Deep Sase nine, but uh, they were not wearing the ranks of regular
- 50:08commissioned officers. They were they were wearing cadet ranks in that episode. But
- 50:16that's a discussion quick question for our predictions later the serious Were you mad within
- 50:22the first five minutes? That was one of the questions we had. So
- 50:28I need remind me what remind me what the first five minutes. Uh,
- 50:35we had surfing, then the party, and then back to surfing. That
- 50:40was all the first five minutes. Yeah, I don't know if I was
- 50:45mad, But I don't know if I was mad by the surfing. I
- 50:51was disappointed. You weren't mad that it had to be Burnham to save the
- 50:55day, that it had to be the captain risking her life. No,
- 50:59you know what I was mad, Yeah, she's not vanc I didn't think
- 51:05Vance is going to show up. Yeah, but I was happy. I
- 51:10was happy to see Vance. I like Vance. I was just super disappointed
- 51:15that he didn't. You know, I know what they were trying to do
- 51:21with say why don't you guys work together? They're trying to have some some
- 51:25sort of static between the two of them. They could have just as easily
- 51:30done that by having Vance say, uh, it's it's captain. Uh,
- 51:35it's Captain Burnham's mission. You will assist her in a support capacity. Okay.
- 51:42Now, from his point of view, he says, you know,
- 51:45she got here two years ago. Before that, she lived eight hundred years
- 51:49in the past. What does she know about this point in history? This
- 51:53is ridiculous. And because of that, he doesn't take her seriously, and
- 51:59there you go. You got your static between the two characters. I know
- 52:02these characters, the ones were after I've chased them before. Like like I
- 52:07said, I should be on point yep. Well, and he's got the
- 52:10you know, he's got the nine hundred year newer ship and they've got the
- 52:14Discovery, but Discovery's got the four drive. And that leads me back to
- 52:17an episode of Voyager where Voyager came across that other starship, that much smaller
- 52:22starship, and the captain of that ship said, so, who's in charge
- 52:27if there's two people of equal rank? And Jane Way says, well,
- 52:30I looked it up, and whoever has the basically, whoever ever has the
- 52:34bigger ship, the more bigger tech. Actually what it said, she said,
- 52:40in times of war, whichever ship has tactical superiority, right, she
- 52:46command? And that and that actually fits with what we've seen because in First
- 52:52Contact, Picard and the Enterprise E warp onto the scene. Everybody's ship is,
- 52:57you know, engaged in battle. He's in the flagship. They have
- 53:00zero damage, the admiral is dead. They have tactical superiority. He just
- 53:07goes over the comms and says it's Captain McCart I'm taking command of the fleet,
- 53:09and no one questions it. And no one questions it because he knew
- 53:14the bye laws of a fictional organization. Warning NERD alert, NERD alert.
- 53:22You know, I got it. I can't say I have impressed that some
- 53:28things I I I recall some things. Other things, you know, I
- 53:31don't know, but you know, I just I can't get over the you
- 53:38know, the admirals, just like you guys figure it out. No,
- 53:44No, you know, most of these organizations, it's you know, rank,
- 53:50Okay, they're both the same rank. Then it goes to time and
- 53:52rank. If they're both time and rank, if they both have the same
- 53:58time and rank, time and serve, if they both have the same time
- 54:01in service. You know, there's there's other things. I've been in organizations
- 54:05where it's gotten down to who's older. No. Yeah, because they've gone
- 54:12through all of these steps, they still can't determine. Hey, we gotta
- 54:14have we gotta have a way to determine it. So they have like fifteen
- 54:16criteria to make sure somewhere somewhere down the line, we'll figure out who's in
- 54:22charge. And then and then there's no question m Yeah, so yeah,
- 54:30I don't know. What do you think of our Bonnie and Clac couple?
- 54:34Do you guys like them? I like them, I do like them.
- 54:37I do like them. I'm eager to see what happens with them. Of
- 54:42course, one of them's got to be Cleveland Booker's step niece or however.
- 54:50Yeah, which because he lost all his family that last season. Yeah,
- 54:55so okay, so what is it? She is the daughter of the previous
- 55:00dread pirate Roberts. Is that basically? Yeah? Yess more important than family.
- 55:05It's all about family, right, That's right. And then we're all
- 55:08gonna have a barbecue at the end of it and drinks. So yeah,
- 55:12I like their dynamic and like in previous Trek Cast episodes from two three years
- 55:16ago, we've got to mention at least one thing that we love about this,
- 55:20that's right. So that's right, and I think this is gonna be
- 55:22a good duo. Yeah. He looks like who were the who were the
- 55:29villains on the Orville? Oh yeah, that's what I've been I've been trying
- 55:35to place him, that's it. Yeah, yeah, which, you know,
- 55:39how did you not do that in the news? Uh, there's a
- 55:43rumor out there that that four of the Orville that's right, green Light.
- 55:47Yeah, I've heard that rumor too. I couldn't get it confirmed anywhere.
- 55:51I didn't want it say it until it's confirmed. Plus we had a lot
- 55:55of Star Trek news. So yeah, sorry, sorry, you don't have
- 56:02to defend yourself. Daniel, It's okay, it's okay. Yesterday day,
- 56:09did you did you visit the missile complex? I can't confirm or deny that.
- 56:15Okay, Yeah, so this guy Fred, Yeah, did uh did
- 56:21we take him with us? Is he a board discovery or did they just
- 56:24scan him? And they had to scan him? So they took him,
- 56:29they took they shot him at his power plant and then uh, yeah they
- 56:34did take they did take all. No, they're not. Are they going
- 56:37to revive him? That's what I'm wondering, son of them? So I
- 56:43know what I'm wondering. I'm wondering if they're going to revive him and he's
- 56:47going to go to the academy with Tilly. Oh my thought was because the
- 56:55card in that in that briefing, right, and Piccard is not a real
- 57:00boy anymore. Are they going to try to revive robot Picard? Oh,
- 57:07I'll go one step further. Yeah, this is Picard and Data in the
- 57:12same body. Yeah, I'm just watching the smoke pour out of Scott's are
- 57:17you I mean, are you feeding him right now? I have a great
- 57:28idea for Little Wayne to guest Star and Discovery. They're gonna have to have
- 57:32a synth played by like McAvoy, you know, or or Picards or Patrick
- 57:37Sewart's actual son. Yeah. You know what I'm disappointed at. They didn't
- 57:44get that. They didn't get the hell yeah guy to play Fred. Oh
- 57:46yeah, that'd be great. Yeah. Who's the hell yeah guy from season
- 57:52one Picard the synth who was like hell yeah, hell right, yeah,
- 57:57okay, hell yeah, hell yeah. You know how, there's this rumor
- 58:07going a lot around that Mike Tyson is going to fight Jake Paul. That's
- 58:12not a rumor, that's happening. That's not that's not happened. Mike,
- 58:15Mike Tyson is going to murder Jake Paul. Yeah. I would like to
- 58:20see a grudge match. I want to see a boxing match, bare knuckle
- 58:22boxing match between Alex Kirtzman and Terry mettallish. I want to see a grudge
- 58:29match between grudge and Spot. Yeah you know what, one cat, one
- 58:35cat takes it all. Yeah. Yeah, well, I'm sure they're going
- 58:45to bring back Spot at some point too. They have. They brought back
- 58:49Spot as a hologram. Yeah, he was in through season three of the
- 58:53card. Yep. So Hollow Spot versus Grudge, Okay, let's do it
- 59:00versus the Ghost of Porthos and Doc Brown's targ there you go, oh yeah
- 59:10yeah yeah. Which that's another thing I have to make. I'll have to
- 59:15bring that up to h I played Star Trek Trivial Pursuit with my wife a
- 59:21couple weekends ago, and I caught a mistake. They asked what kind of
- 59:27pet was Christopher Lloyd's Klingon's characters? What? What was it? And I
- 59:34said, that's a targ right, do you remember the targ on that Clearian
- 59:37ship? And they said, and I got it wrong, it was a
- 59:42Klingon cat. What And I'm like, no, there's a name for that.
- 59:46Who were these writers? Come on, yeah, what's the name for
- 59:50the cat? There was no name. They just said it was a Klingon
- 59:52cat, okay, And I'm like, that's called a targ more dogs cat
- 1:00:00dog? Well yeah, exactly. My point like the they didn't, so
- 1:00:05I thought I thought it was more like a like a bore. Well,
- 1:00:10either way, the cards were wrong, and I was right. There you
- 1:00:14go, and I warning warning, NERD alert, NERD alert. Yep,
- 1:00:22that's right. Someday, I I think I figured it out. But someday
- 1:00:25we're going to play after the season's over. We're gonna play Star Trek Tursuit.
- 1:00:30Okay, okay, I'm gonna lose really bad, but okay. Tars
- 1:00:34targs were targs were comparable in form to Terran bores, but with spikes on
- 1:00:39their backs. Yeah. Yeah, so it's like most importantly they were called
- 1:00:45targs. That's that's what it was on the Klingon ship. Yes, yes,
- 1:00:49yes, they're targs. God, yeah, there you go, there
- 1:00:53go. I was angry about that. Sorry, I'm in a mood.
- 1:00:58Now we're talking about since and data and the Kirksman. And yeah, well,
- 1:01:06if is like I swear, if a targ is like a bore,
- 1:01:12then targs are not kosher or halal. No they're not. And so the
- 1:01:17Klingons that are are either Jews, Jewish, or or practice uh they're the
- 1:01:24Muslim or practice of Islam. They can't eat targs, so they can't have
- 1:01:30heart of tark. Mm hmmm mmmm. Okay, I don't know what if?
- 1:01:37What if? What if the klingon bird to prey? Uh? I
- 1:01:45still wanted to say something like that accent that would be so offensive, but
- 1:01:49I'm not going to. You know, we don't we don't do accents and
- 1:01:53we can't. Yeah, uh yeah, I'm getting canceled. All right.
- 1:02:06Well, let's let's get to feedback please, yeah, listener feedback. All
- 1:02:15right. So we already got Chaz was waiting online, but we did get
- 1:02:19an email. So let me let me read this email quick and then we'll
- 1:02:22get the Chazz fizz. So this came in from uh Fasbob and the subject
- 1:02:30line on the email was Scott is wrong. Oh no, Scott is well,
- 1:02:36Scott is wrong about his email address, which it should be Scott is
- 1:02:39wrong at gmail dot com. So there you go. Okay, well I'll
- 1:02:46see if that's taken. Yeah, yeah for sure. So yes, you
- 1:02:50can email me at Strongbeard seventeen oh one at gmail dot com. So give
- 1:02:55me something to do, guys. I did ask on social media what people
- 1:03:00thought of the two season premiere. Overall, the people we were pretty positive
- 1:03:06about it. I was pretty surprised, a lot of conscious optimism. So
- 1:03:10I didn't hate the episodes. I enjoyed watching them. Yeah, me too.
- 1:03:15I thought it was fine. Yep. Yeah, it's probably the best
- 1:03:19premiere we've had. I think, good premiere. Yeah it was fun.
- 1:03:23Yeah, visually it was amazing. Yeah yeah, it's a treat for the
- 1:03:29eyes. Yeah I don't know. Yeah, all right, we've got chazz
- 1:03:36bits. Let me bring them on space uses apparently, whoa you show space
- 1:03:39Jesus? I shaved. Wow, it looked like fifteen years younger. I'm
- 1:03:47gonna get carded now. Yeah. Yeah, I like the beanie. That's
- 1:03:53great. Yep. Supporting the show. You look like you belong. Yeah.
- 1:04:03Yeah. Well the episode, uh, I liked it in a way,
- 1:04:08not not loved it, but I liked it. I liked the second
- 1:04:11episode better than the first. Let's say that. Why is that? I
- 1:04:15thought the first one almost had too much going on? Like it The spinning
- 1:04:20cameras really annoy me. Yeah, same here because the whole time you're just
- 1:04:27like looking and they're just spinning, and the everything's just panning around, and
- 1:04:31it's just like just focus in on the shot. We get it. Watch
- 1:04:34out, Scott, Scott, watch out, there's somebody behind you. I
- 1:04:38I he that. Yep, I'm always watching your six, buddy. I
- 1:04:44appreciate that. What's really funny about the spinning cameras is earlier this week before
- 1:04:48the premiere, I had watched a breakdown on like how to do filmmaking and
- 1:04:54everything like that, and they were talking about, like, if your story
- 1:04:57is not interesting, one technique is those spinning cameras. Yeah, Like they
- 1:05:02had examples of all sorts of films that are not good, films that do
- 1:05:06that, and how it's only like like you don't see that in Shindler's List.
- 1:05:11You don't see that in it is specifically it's trash and they know it,
- 1:05:15and so they're trying to spice it up. Well, AP's gone to
- 1:05:21that school or that institution, and then the untilie makes these fancy drinks and
- 1:05:29then she touches everybody's drinks with their hands, you know, pops the bubbles.
- 1:05:33I was like, ohtle to, I want to. I want to
- 1:05:36pop the bubble myself. I know exactly. It's like pop your own bubble.
- 1:05:43That's like that's like running around and grabbing the little sword out of everyone's
- 1:05:46drink and yeah, yes, yes exactly, or the little umbrella. I
- 1:05:51mean, like you like what I did, that'd be kind of pissed off.
- 1:06:00Or like making one of those Sumerian sunsets and doing the little thing to
- 1:06:02it yourself instead of letting the customer do it. Oh yeah, yeah yeah,
- 1:06:10instead a bad precedent. She did, she did. I think I
- 1:06:14think he's I think he's trying for NERD alerts at this point, NERD alert,
- 1:06:21NERD alert Samerian. So I'm not that Am I still on a trial
- 1:06:31basis? No? No, okay, good, the trial never ends,
- 1:06:38right I went, I went full Q there for a minute. That's right.
- 1:06:47You never go full key on the internet. I could feel you never
- 1:06:50my ear. Oh I'm thinking the name captain or whatever. He was like,
- 1:07:01oh yeah, yeah, the captain that got demoted. All of a
- 1:07:03sudden, he's everywhere. He pops up. Yeah it's new show. Yeah
- 1:07:10that's awful. A strength dynamic, like we're gonna keep star Fleet or we're
- 1:07:14gonna retire you, but then we're also going to allow you to be first
- 1:07:16go down to commander and be first officer on another ship on a really temperamental
- 1:07:20mission no, and then Michael Burnham's well, he's not like him. He's
- 1:07:26not he's not going he's not being demoted, he's losing his he's losing his
- 1:07:32command. He's not being demoted to commander. He still has the rank of
- 1:07:36captain, but he's going to be first officer on her ship. Yeah,
- 1:07:41they shouldn't do that. They've done they've done something. No, they shouldn't.
- 1:07:45They shouldn't. It was weird when Sarah was also a captain. Uh,
- 1:07:48it's it's still gonna be weird. But something Discovery has done that just
- 1:07:54irks me. The phrase number one. That is a nickname that Pike had
- 1:08:01for his first officer. That is a nickname that Picard had for his first
- 1:08:06officer. That's not the name of the position. That's not the title of
- 1:08:13the position. And Discovery has has done this thing where they're like, I
- 1:08:16want you to be my number one. He's my number one, that's my
- 1:08:19number one, blah blah blah blah blah. No. No, it's like
- 1:08:23saying he's my boo, that's my boo. I want my No, it's
- 1:08:26my first officer. Yeah, it just sounds silly when they say it,
- 1:08:33Come here, boo, well, you know, I'm afraid. I'm afraid
- 1:08:38that they did some foreshadowing of that. Also, where she's talking to Saru
- 1:08:43about selecting a new first officer. Excuse me, a new number one sounds
- 1:08:46so stupid when they say it and he mentions Booker or Booker, whatever's name
- 1:08:53is, and it's like, if this is foreshadowing, if they're gonna,
- 1:08:56if they're gonna take this smuggler and you know, have him fast forward through
- 1:09:04the academy, uh, jump the lower ranks, and suddenly he's first officer
- 1:09:09officer on a Federation starship. It's just they're gonna really crap. It makes
- 1:09:14sense they're gonna haunt Solo the but you know what, it works for Hans
- 1:09:18Solo because that that wasn't a military that was a rebellion where you know,
- 1:09:24we take what we can get and this guy has certain skills and we're gonna
- 1:09:27put him in this position. You know, this is like this, this
- 1:09:31is like the US Navy taking some Nigerian pirate and saying, here, now
- 1:09:38you're the you're the first officer on the US I'm the number one. Yeah,
- 1:09:43yeah, I'm the number one. Now to introduced an unstable element to
- 1:09:50a critical situation. Yeah, for some reason, he's popping up everywhere,
- 1:09:57like he's like everywhere, like he knows all the munications, what's what to
- 1:10:01do? And to me, it's like, I think he's the bad guy
- 1:10:05this season. Something's up with him. I think he knows. Do you
- 1:10:10have any guests of what is? Uh? What is species? You know?
- 1:10:15I was watching it on the phone in the waiting room at the doctor's
- 1:10:17office, so first because it's so small, you know, right, what's
- 1:10:26on the phone. And then I was like, hey, like I can
- 1:10:27minimize the screen and I can google stuff, and like, I mean,
- 1:10:30I don't want to turn this into a racial issue, but I'm curious as
- 1:10:33to what is. When he first popped up, I had to look and
- 1:10:35see if he was the guy that played Trip's son on Enterprise, because he
- 1:10:42kind of looks like that dude too. He went to the future. Remember
- 1:10:45they go to the I don't know the future, okay, yeah with the
- 1:10:51ball At first before they ended up, it was that son. Oh is
- 1:10:59it? Yeah? I thought he's and he's part Balkan. Yeah, I
- 1:11:02think he's got point. Yeah, I think that's Archer's son. I thought,
- 1:11:06Okay, yeah, maybe you're right, because yeah, it's Paul's son.
- 1:11:13All right, Daniel, take away one of those nerd alerts. I
- 1:11:16will give me an anti nerd alert. Yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 1:11:20I'm sorry. I'm going to go back and watch that episode. They're
- 1:11:26looking through the android's eyes, right through Fred. His name is Fred the
- 1:11:30android, because they can the android Fred. They've cheap and data's character so
- 1:11:36much that you know they're they're they're looking through the McMuffin device because my autocrack
- 1:11:42can spell McGuff now, yes, so I'm like typing my notes right,
- 1:11:54so they see they see a picture of twin Moons and Michael Burne also knows
- 1:12:00what system it is looking at these this picture from an ancient text it's twin
- 1:12:04Moons, and knows what system it's on and we're going there and doesn't use
- 1:12:10the computer to like look it up or anything. She just knows. M
- 1:12:15Yeah, oh, you're absolutely right. I was like, whoa, how
- 1:12:18did you find this out? Like you barely even know these systems now,
- 1:12:21because this is like far Michael Burnham. Michael Burnham, she knows, she
- 1:12:27knows the answer to everything. She knows that the answer to this situation is
- 1:12:31to just plunge the nose of my ship right into the ground in front of
- 1:12:36Yeah, what what the hell? You've got two ships? You got two
- 1:12:43ships, both with functioning tractor beams. Yeah, why are we ramming the
- 1:12:51ship into the ground? That makes zero sense? I know. Okay,
- 1:12:56what's the doctor's name on there? Coulber? Okay, remember the episode where
- 1:13:01they saved Colbert where they had to plunge it in this dark matter or whatever
- 1:13:06to bring them back to life. Oh yeah, yeah, remember that one
- 1:13:11was on season two. The whole ship stay one person is that when the
- 1:13:19ship was half in the my celial network. Yes, likes the whole ship
- 1:13:25where where they're like visually, they're like, we're gonna we're gonna cock at
- 1:13:29fifteen degrees and that's how everybody knows it's half in the myal network up and
- 1:13:33down space. But you know, we turned this ship a little bit like
- 1:13:38like this is like this is the layer of a batman villain and it's nineteen
- 1:13:42sixty six, you know, gonna turn the camera. Yeah, you're right,
- 1:13:47And so it's like, so you you risk the whole ship, you
- 1:13:50know, everybody's lives and say one person It's like Spock would be screaming right
- 1:13:56now. So it's right, just like to point out that, uh,
- 1:14:01you've really put especially me and Dan to shame because you've done more show prep
- 1:14:06today than Dan and I have together. He's got I know, I was
- 1:14:15bored left for me in the room for a whole hour by myself. So
- 1:14:20I'm like, well, I guess I can watch Discovery now a good thing,
- 1:14:28and says and Tilly has a hit up Sturfleet Academy show is going to
- 1:14:31be like, oh man, I don't know. I'm just not looking forward
- 1:14:35to that at all. Yeah, I'm sorry. I love though I think,
- 1:14:41yeah, she's a good character, but I do not. I do
- 1:14:47not. I've had enough Tilly for the rest of my life. I just
- 1:14:55something about her. She just shrubs me the wrong way. I don't know
- 1:14:57what it is, because I think she ring is that Barkley like, you
- 1:15:00know, uncomfortable and maybe a little bit of ezri too, because everybody in
- 1:15:04Star Trek is so confident. They all walk around like they're they've got that
- 1:15:09big Riker energy and it's kind of nice to see somebody that's, you know,
- 1:15:14kind of like a normal person. Yeah. Yeah, but but you
- 1:15:17know what, you would you would see that same energy if you walked around
- 1:15:20West Point or if you walked around Annapolis or the Air Force Academy. That's
- 1:15:25true, that's those are the people that are there. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:15:31and do you think you know? Of course Therou's coming back. I know
- 1:15:36he's getting married and doing this on the side, So I have thoughts about
- 1:15:42that. I think they're setting him up to be killed. Oh doya.
- 1:15:45I thought he was going to die in that episode. I thought, like,
- 1:15:48I'm tired of this makeup. So you're right, well, it's a
- 1:15:53it's a good gut punch at the end of the season. Yeah, I
- 1:15:55thought die in this episode because when they when they were finally out of date
- 1:16:00anger and they're just their dialogue after they're after they got out of danger was
- 1:16:03lasting a little too long. Yeah, And I thought at the last second,
- 1:16:08you know, something was going to impale him in the in the I
- 1:16:12think the second or second or last episode in the Yeah, is gone,
- 1:16:17He's gone. Then Captain Georgia eats him. That's right, so long,
- 1:16:28right. I love Calimar, this is great. I was going to personate
- 1:16:31her, but nope, can't. We're gonna get some sweet and Star Gangliad.
- 1:16:38That's right. Oh boy, yeah, hey, Michael Burner even tried
- 1:16:47one of them. That's right, So she already tastes like delicious. Was
- 1:16:54that was that mere Seru that they Yeah, remember it's because she get Georgia
- 1:17:02was like a pick one and she's like, uh, I guess I'll pick
- 1:17:04Sarru? Like, am I saving him? Is this a special detail?
- 1:17:09No, he's going straight to the shot. No, it wasn't. It
- 1:17:12wasn't mirror. It wasn't mirror. It was no, it was just another
- 1:17:18that was seven years ago. Well, I think all Kelpians look alike.
- 1:17:21I'm sorry, it's just oh wow, whoa, whoa, whoa old fashion.
- 1:17:27Wow. Not not cool, not cool at all, sir, Not
- 1:17:31cool as you wear another alien symbol on your chest. That's true. Yeah,
- 1:17:38that's another podcast symbol for Hope. Yeah. Yeah, that's his other
- 1:17:43podcast. I hope that's something I'll be able tos apart. Well here here
- 1:17:46it's an ass like Hope. It moves like a river. Yeah. I
- 1:17:55heard a rumor about to start a Superman emblem. What's that? I heard?
- 1:17:59Dan? He's got a Superman album? I do tattoo? Yeah?
- 1:18:05Oh Yeah, that's right. That's what you said out a pod. I'm
- 1:18:10not bringing anything up from a private conversation. Nice. That's awesome. I
- 1:18:24love it. It will pass. What do we think about the infinity Devicenberg
- 1:18:30was using? I mean what, Yeah, that's what it is. Sorry,
- 1:18:41I'm still distracted by those those guns that Dan just showed up. If
- 1:18:48you up that music, that would have been awesome. We'll do it.
- 1:18:54We'll do it in post. Yeah, that'd be perfect. There's no posts.
- 1:19:00You're just posting the audio and that's it. That's it. That's our
- 1:19:03posts, that's our boat. I wish I could be the sound guy.
- 1:19:09I wish I could control like the soundboard and do sound effect. I wish
- 1:19:13I could too. You can't. Just you have to use your mouth like
- 1:19:16Michael Winslow. Okay, wanh wanh wanh wanh So, so would you be
- 1:19:32sloughed from goonies, Scott, I think I've just been insulted. Wow,
- 1:19:40old blood, I mean a little bix of both Rocky Rocky Road. Uh,
- 1:20:01nobody under thirty those goodies are no. Let's come back maybe this summer.
- 1:20:08So yeah, I think it is the fortieth anniversary. They keep saying
- 1:20:13they're going to make another Goodies. It's not gonna happen. Oh no,
- 1:20:15God, well, Corey Feldman's too. Actually next year. It's forty years
- 1:20:19for the Goody. At this point, they might as well reboot it and
- 1:20:21just get a new set of kids. Yeah. No, I think it's
- 1:20:27gone off the rail, off the rails starting a Superman symbol. Yeah,
- 1:20:36welcome to cash. Yeah, start trying to talk about and what do you
- 1:20:42think about Book? I think Book's definitely gonna die because that's your love interest.
- 1:20:46Books dead. Yeah no, I don't think Books dead. I think
- 1:20:51they're gonna give Michael a happy ending ish I don't want to happy. Yeah,
- 1:21:00she got to and that's how it ends. So yeah, all right,
- 1:21:11I'm gonna I'm gonna make a prediction. Gonna die, Michael's gonna marry
- 1:21:17Book and move on, and Rayner is going to be the Captain of Discovery
- 1:21:26at the end of the season. I don't know, Yeah, I could
- 1:21:30see that happening. This is kind of my thing, making crazy predictions.
- 1:21:34Like I don't know if you saw my my post, but there was the
- 1:21:38picture of what's his name Ethan Peck and what's his name? Kid? I
- 1:21:45can't remember his name. Help me out, Jerry O'Connell. Ye, you
- 1:21:49look at you, look at you. Look at Jerry's eyebrows. His eyebrows
- 1:21:55look the way Ethan Peck's eyebrows look when they're filming and they shave the sides
- 1:21:59off. So I think O'Connell is going to show up in Strange New Worlds
- 1:22:02as a Vulcan, and I think he's going to be Cybok because they tease
- 1:22:09that like two years ago and never never came back to that. Yeah,
- 1:22:15look at those look at those eyebrows. Right, they're wearing the same shirt.
- 1:22:20They're wearing the same shirt. They're like, hey, look at us
- 1:22:24brothers. Yeah, that's that's my crazy prediction. So three years from now,
- 1:22:30Scott can be on the show and be like I was listening to this
- 1:22:33three year old episode of Trick. You'll never believe the nonsense that Dan was
- 1:22:39spewing. I mean, it's awesome. I mean, you know, the
- 1:22:45benefit of hindsight. He's either going to be or he's going to be yet
- 1:22:48another sibling that we didn't know spock ad. Yeah, you know that would
- 1:22:56be ridiculous. It's going to be cousins, Box, cousin yeah, some
- 1:23:02white dude from Jersey cousin. I have a prediction about the end of discovery.
- 1:23:09I think the USS Discovery is going to be destroyed. Okay, I'm
- 1:23:14cool it. The discoveries like the ECTO one we talked about a couple of
- 1:23:19weeks ago. It's this old ship by Goods from whatever century they're in.
- 1:23:26Is it twenty second century, a twenty third century? Yeah, So better
- 1:23:30be careful because I don't think Dan likes this analogy at all. No,
- 1:23:33it's it's it's it's from the twenty third now they're in the thirty second.
- 1:23:38Yeah, and so they retrofitted it to be super fast. But it's kind
- 1:23:43of like the ECTA one really, because you'd have this very very old ship
- 1:23:45and still have old technology on it even if you retrofitted it, because you'd
- 1:23:53have to completely redo the whole thing to bring it to what up to a
- 1:23:58thousand years in the future. Yeah, see that. I have a problem
- 1:24:03with that because are the halls even made of the same material? I mean,
- 1:24:12you know, a thousand years ago, our ships were made out of
- 1:24:14wood. Yeah, and you know, so you know, like, I'm
- 1:24:21sure they've come up with a different other than geranium of making a shifts.
- 1:24:27It's uh yeah for tandium. Yeah, we're all covered in plot arm.
- 1:24:34Yes, well, it's kind of like having your gun facing your hand instead
- 1:24:40of pulling out of your holster. I don't like that, does your gun
- 1:24:45just I didn't. I didn't hear what you said. Oh, yeah,
- 1:24:48the gun. I don't like the idea of replicating things with power sources.
- 1:24:54Yeah. No, I like if they brought out a knife or something like
- 1:24:59that, something stable. And I don't like holographic displays, like where they
- 1:25:03bring up a map and it's on their wrist and they're pointing in everything.
- 1:25:08I don't like that either directly. I feel like if they're that, if
- 1:25:12they're doing the like HUDs everywhere, why wouldn't the phasers have a hood just
- 1:25:16automatically pops up in front of it. Yeah, like Advisor or something that
- 1:25:20pops over your head where you can better if you if you all right?
- 1:25:26See, this is what I'm talking about. When the technology progresses so far,
- 1:25:30it inhibits the storytelling. It inhibits logical storytelling. They have these dot
- 1:25:34robots that they send everywhere to do these things. At the end of that
- 1:25:38scene, they say send a couple dots down there. Haven't fixed the mess
- 1:25:41we made? Okay, Why isn't there a team of four dots on every
- 1:25:45away mission, on every away team? Yeah, yeah, Why don't you
- 1:25:49have a team of dots with you? Tactical? There's medical dots, there's
- 1:25:54tactical tactical dots. There's science, you know, And and why do you
- 1:26:00have a drone? Oh, you've heard the dog. My dog's sense was
- 1:26:10tingling somewhere. I needed up his arm. There, you get awesome,
- 1:26:21But you know, it's like, why don't they have drones on the shuttle
- 1:26:25crafts or anything else to scout out where they're going. Why don't they have
- 1:26:29all this other technology that you probably have, or or if you have this
- 1:26:35portable replicator on your wrist that can just make handguns out of thin air.
- 1:26:42Why aren't you calling for a dot when you need one. It's just it's
- 1:26:45they've progressed the technology so far that everything is possible, which means nothing is
- 1:26:50impossible, which means nothing that you do make sense anymore. They have they
- 1:26:55have painted themselves into a corner, and they need to go back. They
- 1:27:00need to finish the season. Reset Star Trek back to the twenty fifth century
- 1:27:06where things make sense, right, things make sense still kind of sort of
- 1:27:15and just go from there. I'm done with the thirty second century. No
- 1:27:19me too, hold on Dan Dan, Daniel LaRusso. Daniel LaRusso said it
- 1:27:25best. I want to go home. Why can't we just go back home?
- 1:27:29Right? Ye? Send the awaye rones? Yeah, around the sun?
- 1:27:34That they go around the sun and then they go back in time.
- 1:27:39And you see their faces, bad CG faces, and they're going back in
- 1:27:43time. Why can't she tap on her wrist and call for a thread?
- 1:27:49At that point, he is eight hundred technologated, He's a he's eight hundred
- 1:27:54year old technology at that point right right now, none of it nothing makes
- 1:27:59sense, and more nothing that makes sense anymore. We're not buying for a
- 1:28:02nerdler hurt here. But in the Star Trek, the Next Generation Technical Manual,
- 1:28:05they're talking about good so warning warning, NERD alert, NERD alert.
- 1:28:15Right. It's quoted in that book saying if you could meet Scott's like,
- 1:28:19you know, I'm referring to the tech Manual here. I have I don't
- 1:28:25know what. I only have two copies. That one is a pristine copy
- 1:28:28of Hi. It says, if you could The reason why, uh,
- 1:28:33the the starships are are shown being built by you know, star based builder
- 1:28:39thingies, that's the technical terms instead of large replicators is if you could replicate
- 1:28:44a starship, you wouldn't have to so and it's it's an extension what Dan
- 1:28:48said. You know, if you can just make these dots and make these
- 1:28:54things, you're painting yourself into a corner, and you know, the story
- 1:28:57goes out the window. So that's the problem. That's exactly the problem with
- 1:29:01the thirty second century is you're you're painting, You're painting yourself in the corner,
- 1:29:05and you're not evolving story wise. You can't evolve as fast as the
- 1:29:12time jump, right, you know, a thousand years from now. There's
- 1:29:16they're not going to be using you know, the same shaped starships. They're
- 1:29:21not going to be using the same circle main drive to sell shaped ships.
- 1:29:29And all of them are showed kind of like that, even though they got
- 1:29:31detachment fells. The single single stupidest thing in all of Star Trek is the
- 1:29:36detachment cells. I don't even like voyagers, you know, you know,
- 1:29:43but you mouth right, okay, yeah, but I you know, in
- 1:29:54the in the in the vein and the spirit of you know, saying something
- 1:29:57nice about it. I do like the visuals. I I do like where
- 1:30:00certain characters are going. I like Chilli's character. I think this new captain
- 1:30:04is going to be an interesting plot device to use down the road, whether
- 1:30:09he's going to betray him, whether he's gonna die, whether he's going to
- 1:30:12be the Savior or captain the ship or whatever. I like him. I
- 1:30:15do like the I do like the the Jedi Twins. They're, you know,
- 1:30:21the the bad guys. I think they're gonna be cool. Blasphemy Scott.
- 1:30:27Yeah, yeah, there you go. It is Sunday, so Sunday
- 1:30:33fun day. Hey it's WrestleMania night to is tonight? Yeah, I mean
- 1:30:39I better get home. Oh man, I watched Big Muffins this week after
- 1:30:44this episode so very worried about Cody and finishing his story. I'm not that
- 1:30:50worried about it. Yeah, you'll survive, I think so. I think
- 1:30:56he's going to Speaking of finishing, like, oh, you're talking wrestling.
- 1:31:00We're done now, all right, Well, thanks Chas, thanks for being
- 1:31:06on. All right, you guys have fun. Thanks Buddy, good to
- 1:31:11see you. Is there anybody else brave enough to get on the show.
- 1:31:14No, that was it. That was it. So I would like to
- 1:31:17mention before we go that I am going to the Comic Con next weekend,
