- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, Well, I want
- 0:07Speaker 1: to be very clear, the Historic District Council did not
- 0:11Speaker 1: pay for this read. They did not ask me to
- 0:15Speaker 1: do this. I'm kind of doing this out of my
- 0:16Speaker 1: own volition because when I see the name Jeffrey Kressler,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I have a very fond memory of having jeffreyon. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 1: having jeffreyon a couple of times at won Lego Alex Media.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Firstly was when during COVID he had a heart attack
- 0:34Speaker 1: and he observed on the FDNY EMS team was so
- 0:37Speaker 1: diverse and had to write about it in the Daily
- 0:39Speaker 1: News and we talk about that, and then we had
- 0:41Speaker 1: him on a second time. And as you guys know,
- 0:43Speaker 1: Jeffrey Kresler, Cuning Professor John Jay University, very very historic
- 0:50Speaker 1: minded person. Well, the Historic District Council went ahead after
- 0:54Speaker 1: his passing, his sad passing actually, and created the Jeffrey
- 0:58Speaker 1: Kresler Student Research Award. And it's that time of year again.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The award is an annual juried award have lightning original
- 1:06Speaker 1: graduate level research on topics relevant to historic preservation in
- 1:10Speaker 1: New York City. This research Award will provide emerging preservationists
- 1:15Speaker 1: and opportunity to gain public recognition by showcasing their research
- 1:20Speaker 1: that is beneficial to the advancement of the historic preservation community.
- 1:24Speaker 1: At least one thousand dollars award. One one thousand dollars
- 1:28Speaker 1: award will be presented each year and the award recipient
- 1:32Speaker 1: will have the opportunity to public present their research to
- 1:34Speaker 1: appears in Preservationists in twenty twenty seven. If you don't know,
- 1:38Speaker 1: the Historic District Council and my mom's an historian, so
- 1:41Speaker 1: I got very locked into this. They literally go around
- 1:44Speaker 1: the city and say what can we preserve, what can
- 1:46Speaker 1: we landmark.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I've always thought Yankee Stadium's land the original one that
- 1:51Speaker 2: opened up nearly one hundred and two years ago now
- 1:55Speaker 2: or one hundred and three, should be historic land.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I mean that should be a landmark in and of
- 1:59Speaker 1: itself of the original Yankee Stadium space. Maybe we'll get
- 2:04Speaker 1: that done eventually. But they go around the city and
- 2:09Speaker 1: find out different areas that should be landmarked, and only
- 2:13Speaker 1: that they have different meetings about different cases of landmarking
- 2:21Speaker 1: and preserving really historic parts of the city. So they're
- 2:26Speaker 1: asking for those who want to be part of that
- 2:29Speaker 1: preservation process to apply for the Jeffrey Kresler Research Award.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's now open and we'll close him in May. For
- 2:38Speaker 1: questions about the application process, contact Kasia Mendes Brian. Of course,
- 2:44Speaker 1: they did not ask me to do this. They do
- 2:45Speaker 1: not ask me. They're not paying me to do this.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm just doing this because I really love what Jeffrey
- 2:50Speaker 1: Chrysler said for and I love that they're continuing his
- 2:53Speaker 1: memory and legacy through this research award. And you can
- 2:57Speaker 1: email her at k Mendes came into as Dash Bryan
- 3:02Speaker 1: at HDC dot org. The Historic District Council is such
- 3:06Speaker 1: a pivotal part. Oh, it's such a pivotal part of
- 3:09Speaker 1: preserving New York City. That's why I get their emails.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's why I get their email chain. And you too
- 3:14Speaker 1: should join the Historic District Council. And again, I want
- 3:17Speaker 1: to thank them for preserving the memory of John J.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Librarian and professor and legend Jeffrey Kresler. There's a Jeffrey
- 3:25Speaker 1: Kresler Research Award. We miss him. I'm going to post
- 3:29Speaker 1: the links to my shows with him.
- 3:31Speaker 2: In the links below.
- 3:32Speaker 1: And yeah, I get involved with the HDC to preserve
- 3:36Speaker 1: our history.
